Talons of Power (Wings of Fire #9) (9)

This was a good continuation of the Wings of Fire series. The book was easy to read and progresses into the next part of the Darkstalker story arc. There was a stand alone Darkstalker book released that explains Darkstalker’s history and it would be helpful to read that book before reading this one. I continue to read this series mostly because my 10 year old son enjoys it so much; I have also become somewhat attached to these dragons myself. This continues the storyline with Darkstalker's awakening and really focuses on animus dragons. The story is told from Turtle’s perspective; he is a SeaWing dragon that is an animus in secret. He alone seems to be immune to Darkstalker’s charm and it is up to him to discern what Darkstalker is really up to. There isn't a lot resolved in this story, it is basically just the start of another broad storyline involving Darkstalker and his efforts to rebuild the Nightwing Clan and gain the trust of the other Dragon Clans. We learn some more about Turtle’s history and past, but honestly not a ton happens in here. Mostly this book seems to be setting up the story for more excitement in future books. There is a sense of doom over the whole story as you are just waiting for things to go really wrong in the next book. Overall this was a good continuation of this series. I liked learning more about animus dragons and it was interesting to see things from Turtle's perspective. However I felt like this was a very short book and not a lot actually happened in here. I am curious to see what this book builds to as the series continues. Recommended to fans of the Wings of Fire series.

A lot of people have said that this book was by far the worst one in the series so far, but let's agree to disagree, this book had the literal backstory to Turtle and Anemone, and spoiler alert, why there are two animus in the same generation of the SeaWings. This book was intriguing and even if there weren't as many plot twists as the other books, it was still very enjoyable as a book.

The adventure begins with a failure, a heavy burden that are hero does not realize is really a truth, for Turtle, BLAH BLAH BLAH! Let's be honest, I'm not that kind of reviewer. So okay, Turtle is feeling really cowardly and decides to hide from Darkstalker, which I would do that, run to my cave and hide there until I realize I'm the only way to stop him, hint hint ,Turtle. So , instead he decides to convince himself he's the character that does the second the plot is revealed, which Tui did in the last book, Escaping Peril. Who by the way, has a adorable conversation with Clay that I wish Turtle overheard. Anyway, he instead follows Darkstalker to the rain forest *spoiler alert, spoiler alert*! THEN, Turtle is forced to take off his disguise and Anemone makes a run for it! Yep that's right. It was to jam packed to not even mention a thing! It was the greatest book ever and you should totally buy it for yourself. Because the only thing that's going to convince you, is reading it yourself! But a little life advice, there's always a chance to be a hero. Even if your helping one, remember you are one. Turtle needs to know that.😉

The idea of a dragon who doesn’t want to be a hero that is put in a position where he has to be one is a great opposite to Sunny in her book, a dragon who didn’t have to be a hero yet becomes one regardless of her own will. This book has one crucial reveal that is so well done, it may make you gasp as you read. The reveal is not a random plot device, but makes sense with Turtle’s personality of wanting to be invisible and in the background. This is a great, suspenseful read and encouraging to any introverts or people that tend to blend into the background. It makes you feel like no matter what your fears or personality, you can make a difference and be brave.

I wanted to LOVE this book so badly. I've been looking forward to it since I finished Escaping Peril. And I liked the book, but I believe there is a major issue within it that prevents it from being one of my favorites. This review is spoiler-free for this particular book, but it contains spoilers for the rest of the series. First, I do recommend this book. It is well-written for the most part, like the rest of the series. I like Turtle. I like that he is not the 'hero' of the story, that he has been content to be a follower and stay hidden. Some of the dialogue is a bit over-the-top, even for a children's book, but the writing is solid where it matters most. Darkstalker is a phenomenal villain. He is written just as I always imagined a villain should be - He isn't doing evil, as far as he is concerned. He is taking the steps to create a better world. Though he believes it's for his entire tribe, it is really mostly for himself. At the same time, he is a whole character that is not only defined by the actions he takes, but by the emotions he displays. It is refreshing to have an antagonist that is all sorts of shades of grey. As readers have known for a while, something is not quite right with Anemone. I hope there is more to the story than what I've read, but I felt strongly as if the way this book deals with this issue is a bit… lacking. I feel like the author built it up for a very different conclusion and then changed her mind. And, in changing her mind, did not adequately cover the steps which led to the ultimate resolution of Anemone's arc. I felt as if it was mostly hand-waved, and I cannot say more without getting into spoiler territory. This did not ruin the book, but it made me say, "Oh, well that was disappointing." I have enjoyed the Wings of Fire series, and I hope Sutherland continues it in some capacity. It might be time to move away from prophecy series and into more volumes like "Darkstalker," which deal with the world as a whole without tying the characters to a circular plot, where ideas might change over time and not work in subsequent stories. The world is so colorful and… well, it's just so COOL that it would be a shame for it to end with no further contributions. I am still giving Talons of Power three stars because I really do like Turtle, and as I said, Darkstalker is a very effective antagonist. A decent story overall.

I don't know how i exacly fell about this book. I read the entire thing in one day and my brain still hurts from all of the exposition so bare with me... "deep breath" I was expecting something totaly diferent from this bock and because of it i disagree with the way the author is leading the storry in right now. I mean it was obvious it Darkstalker was going to be the bad-guy but i was kind of hoping that someone or something els wold. and that has stuck with me ever since... Anywais this is a review not a rant The wrighting is as always great i don't like how Turtle repeats to himself about being a character 2 much like a few times is fine but he does it every time and is almost anoing. Best thing about this book The way it starts and how it transforms in to, well you sold read it (spoilers duh) I wold defenetly Recomend this book, if you have been waiting for this book like me buy it, buy it for a firend. but please be sure to have read the previous books first or else you will not know what is going on... that includes the book The Darkstalker... Now have a good day/night were ever you live and happy new years :)

I really loved this book. The only reason I put 4 stars is because I that the author had added a liiiittle more magic because I think that animus magic is super cool but otherwise I love this book! :)

I love this series I read it as a little kid and I never got to finish it so I’m finishing it now the book arrived in almost perfect condition with just a little dent on the back and a little bit of a white line on the cover but it doesn’t really bother me there is however like a little stripe right where like the spine is but I mean otherwise it’s in almost amazing condition i did get it brand new

I love Dragons! This book has them. Every one of these books make my heart race. Like I said, I love Dragons. This book has a protagonist that I can relate to A LOT. The romance between Dragons. This book series... the Dragons.... they make me happy. Now if you love Dragons the way I do (as in literally) then you will definitly enjoy it. Nothing else can make me happy besides Dragons. Remember that. I sure hope this book series doesn't end soon... I need it.... I wish to be on Pyrrhia and be a Dragon and finally be happy forever. But I'm in this blasted dimension, and the Wings Of Fire story is the closest thing to actually being there. I know almost everyone who reads this is going to judge me in some way because what I said was also not about the book itself. But I need to...

This book was so good. I like how this one and Darkness of Dragons work together so well. The funniest part in the book by far to me is when the Icewings see Darkstalker in the library and shriek loud enough to break glass. Anyway good book, Turtle is one of my favorite characters along with Winter, Qibli. Moon, Peril, Pike, Hailstorm, Mightyclaws, Prince Arctic (although Arctic doesn't officially appear in this book) and many others. Now like other reviewers I also have to caution parents with young children about this series, but don't let it stop you from reading these books because they are very good. Well worth the money. I recommend this series to anyone who wishes for a good page turner.

My kid loves this series enough that she spent her own money to get them, for the rereadability. Even having read the start of the series several years ago.

I loved it! There was so much drama and action, I was constantly on the edge of my seat. My one note is that I didn’t like that Turtle loses his animus powers, it really disappointed me. But other than that, five stars!

hello just wanted to say i like your books but i found a plothole. turtle enchanted the stick to protect and shiled HIMSELF from darkstalker but anemone later used the stick and darkstalker forgot all about her like with turtle one of your favorite readers krvr

This book has everything I expected, and more! While I can't say I approve of the ending, everything else was great. At first I was a little wary of Turtle. He was afraid of everything, seemingly even his own shadow. But as the book progressed, he changed into the confident, mature character I was expecting. I also got to know Anemone better too, along with Kinkajou. Sadly, Moon, Winter, Qibli, Peril, and the other Dragonets of Destiny weren't in it all that much, but hopefully will be in the next book The Darkness Of Dragons. Overall, I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy, or to other Wings of Fire fans.

If your not cheap than you could buy hard cover. Hard cover version of the book is better because it doesn’t bend or chip as easily as paper pack does. But, if you be carful than the books will be neat and clean.

Amazing collection

I love this series so much and I got this book to complete my collection I ordered it with the paperback binding but when it arrived the cover was bent up I was disappointed by this but I don't think I will return it.

5 stars This was a great book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or any book that is kind of serious but also has jokes, sarcasm, and a tiny bit of romance. The only part I didn't like was the end(I mean, come ON) and the fact that Anemone was so spoiled when she used to be so sweet & kind. But, no matter the ending, I will always love Talons Of Power.

My 8 years old son loves this books. Funny and attractive books.

I have been reading this series as a bedtime story to my son (who is 8), and I enjoy reading them as much as he enjoys hearing them. He first picked this series out from a book form from his school about 6 months ago (we got the box set with the first 5 books). As soon as we had finished the box set, I started my search online for the rest of them. Now we are almost done with this one and he's already asking when the next book is going to be out!

ever since i was 8 years old started the wings of fire series, it was amazing how the drawings were designed and how everything was impossible to make a copy of it with your OWN HANDS!!!!! the series is amazing and i recommend this book for ages 8 to 12 ( like the ages tui said. ) overall im waiting for the paperback of the tenth book to come, DARKNESS OF DRAGONS

Daughter loved it...took her less than 2 days to read....she would not put it down...and her laughs every once in a while says it all.

These are amazing books, all of them! The first book is a little dry and boring for the first few chapters and then BOOM, you can't put them down! Kids age 7 and 8, teenagers age 15 & 16, mom's.... We are all very big fans of this series. The teens are very funny with how obsessed and possessive they are over these stories haha. Also great for both boys and girls!

Seriously who is afraid of anything named Turtle. Especially when there are Dragons named Night Stalker to compete with. Now Turtle has to save the Rain Wings and his sister and stay alive. No pressure.

My granddaughter was very happy to receive this book. She had read the first books in the series but the library did not have this one on hand.

Each and every book is exciting and hasn't disappointed me! I love the lessons these books provide. Turtle is scared and always wants to be unnoticed, while his sister, Anemone is the opposite. They both need more balance in their lives. Absolute power corrupts absolutely! Read while young dragons are finding out more about their strengths, weaknesses, and who they truly want to be. It's the struggle every teen goes through in life!

This series continues to amaze me with how much fun it is and how well written it is. The books do a great job of making me fall in love with the characters and this one is no exception. Turtle may have been one of my least favorite of the main dragonets in the Wings of Fire series so I was apprehensive about having him as the focus of a book, but I ended up enjoying his character.

I really like this book because I am really into dragons and reading its like a fire was lit in side me that was dark for my entire life until now!

The book is as you'd expect a book of this nature to be. Pros: - Smells great. - Flat, beautiful and new pages. - Lovely story and graphics on cover. Cons: - It's a book, so you kind of have to, you know, read it.

Great!!!! It's a awesome book! I didn't like the ending though, it was sad...I mean seriously Darkstalker!!! Why anemone! The battle was epic though, and I also liked the SPOILER cool powers the nightwings thought up. I am excited for darkness of dragons. I would say that this book is 8 and up. This is the best book yet!

this is a shocking development in the series. darkstalker is free, giving nightwings powers, and had anenome o his side. turtle is nervous, but when kinkajou wakes up he decides she is the main charicter. they go to the old nightwing kingdom, and try to stop him. meanwhile anemone slowly goes evil. turtle and anenome fight. turtle reveals that he enchanted anenome to be an animus.

This is a great book although I did not finish it but still it is a great book, but I do not get the part where moon uses cool hacks to access to my boi Perils mind and found out that peril was roasting my boi horizon I give it a 5 because there is 5 chapters I did not reed

This series has been fantastic! Dragons that have special powers and it goes on and on! My students grades 3-5th love it! They cannot put the books down and I am constantly ordering different books to keep up with them!

I brought this book not to long ago and i've already read it twice! I love Turtle as a character and Im so happy we get to learn more about him, he's by far my favourite out of all the 9 books to be honest!!!!!! Definitely going to read again and cant wait, thank Tui for releasing another amazing book!!!

I work third shift and actually stayed awake until the mail came so I could start reading this book. I can always tell I will like a book within a few pages, and I am not even through the prologue and already it is way better the "Darkstalker." I would have kept reading it if I had not had to work.

An exceptional tale from Sutherland once again, proving she still has steam after 8 books. I adore the connections to the first arc, and the background.

This is my son's all time favorite series. He actually hasn't read yet because he wants to go back to the beginning and start again because it has been 6 months since he read book 8. I will post again after he gets to nine. This particular author is fantastic for his age.

My son has been totally obsessed with this series since it began. He finished this one (Book 9) in less than a day and we already ordered Book 10. I recommend this book - and the entire series - for boys or girls, ages, 9 - 14.

Omg! I have been waiting for this book to come out! I love it all look much. Turtle has always been one of my favorite characters. This book was great because I think it really showed the backstory of turtle. It showed that turtle wasn't just a coward and a always worry some.

No words can explain how I am feeling! The ending was such a surprise, that when the last book comes out, I don't even know how much drama there will be! This book was great all the key components that a book should have, it was sad, scary, happy, joy filling, and adventurous. Even though this book is a cliff hanger we all have to give it to Tui T. Sutherland she did really good with this book. ;)

I did like this book, a lot. However, the Turtle - Darkstalker - Kinkajou scene was so sad. Seriously, Anemone? Also, the beginning, where Darkstalker is interacting with everybody, is sort of ridiculous. However, this book didn't disappoint. Waiting on the edge of my seat for July!

This is an amazing book with adventure, mystery, and has just a hint of romance to tie it all together. The book is told from Turtle's perpective which gives us another look at the world. I recommend this book to any Wings of Fire fan. You will not be disappointed.

I was so excited to get this all the way from the US for my 11th birthday. I read it in less than 2 days. It's quite a mysterious book. The characters are great, and I've passed this series to my 16 year old sister they are so good!

This series is great but of the three mini-series, Darkstalker line isn't my favorite.
