A great resource for anyone who wants optimal health

What a privilege it is to feel in control of your health outcomes! My health restoration journey began in 2013 when I learned that gluten and dairy were causing the hives and itching I had lived with constantly since college (30 years ago).... along with asthma, allergies, migratory joint pain, brain fog, and undiagnosed Hashimotos thyroiditis. At that time of searching for information, it was hard to decipher the online fact from fiction in the health world. As a pharmacist, I was skeptical about claims made by gurus who easily spouted off too good to be true generalizations. I was eager to find someone who did the hard work of reading the studies and distilling the information so I could just glean the bottom line! Eventually I found that person and it was Dr. Sarah Ballantyne! I devoured everything she produced or was a part of... summits, e-books, her podcast: The Paleo View, Youtube videos, her books: The Paleo Approach, The Paleo Approach Cookbook, Paleo Principles, and now this gem: The Healing Kitchen. What I love about this book is that the first 1/3rd of it has a concise, colorful, and memorable explanation about the "why" of the healing diet. Not only is Dr. Sarah great with the science, but she is also creative and artistic... this shows in the diagrams and illustrations. My favorite example of this is page 36 and 37 where is shows the balance of "yes" foods and "no" foods. It is brilliant the way she shows that even some very good whole foods have both health-promoting nutrients and health-undermining compounds that need to be taken into consideration. I have returned to that page so many times! The book also has specialized meal plans that are helpful for people to customize as they and/or their family need. The cookbook provides so many options for those of us on the autoimmune protocol (AIP) with intros. Our favorite recipes are the Pumpkin Chili (p. 157), the Tangy Carolina BBQ Sauce (p. 118), Garlic & Herb Breakfast Sausage (p. 130), Hamburger Stew (p. 152), and the Rosemary & Prosciutto Stomboli (p. 203) I have recommended this book to so many people who are just starting their health restoration journey because it gives just enough information to get started and not be overwhelmed. It is truly a breath of fresh air to be able to pick up a cookbook and not have to modify anything for our dietary needs. Thanks to Dr. Sarah for the tireless work for our AIP community! She is such a treasure to us! Because of her extensive resources, I have been able to enjoy my new normal glowing health which is without the symptoms I mentioned at the top and no meds... even for Hashis! I highly recommend this book and look forward to her future works!

Beyond Expectations

I don't usually write reviews...but this book needs one. I can't say enough about how wonderful this book is, but I will try. 1. Best Gifting AIP cookbook ever! With the 70 pages of awesome narrative at the front, this is the least intimidating AIP narrative in the history of books. (Granted I'm a science gal who also appreciates laymen science...thus I LOVE The Paleo Approach by Sarah Ballantyne, but newbies that aren't like me might get a little lost if its a first introduction to AIP) I would give this book as a gift to someone thinking about or wanting information on AIP. There are even weekly meal plans. This makes AIP as simple as you can get to kick off your healing journey. 2. This book has such awesome things that AIP people miss in their lives.....like creamy Cesar dressing, pizza crust, and marinara sauce to name a few. There aren't a ton of recipes that have been done over and over and over like some books. 3. The recipes are so down to earth, but useful. Sometimes a book comes along and you think...why did I buy this, because I put this kind of thing together all the time, and I already have three books that give me basically the same recipe. However....that is NOT the case with this book. I love the simple but well built flavors and concepts that these women have put together. 4. It makes AIP easy. You don't need to go out and buy six specialty items to make the dish. I literally picked out meals to make that I already had items for and granted, I have some of the traditional AIP cooking items to begin with, but there are so many that don't need those kinds of things. You can literally pick up the book and start making stuff today. Honestly, I expected a lot from these women knowing their other work..... and they truly went above and beyond any of my expectations for this book. I am SO thankful for both of them, and their very hard work so that we can have this awesome resource. So what are you waiting for? Go order this book TODAY! Happy healing.

Phenomenal book!!

I REALLY wish I’d had this book sooner! I won’t even call it a cookbook because it’s more like a REALLY well written and organized nutrition textbook that also serves as a nutrition coach with super thoughtful meal plans mapped-out for every type of cook- “less than 20 mins in the kitchen”, “doesn’t like to do dishes”, etc. They also break down features of different geography’s cuisines, giving you options to get that type of flavor and even less “tangible” qualities like acidity, savory, etc. (so you’re learning how to COOK, not just making recipes!!) The recipes are awesome but, honestly, so much of the value of the book is in the holistic information, organization and meal planning! They even tell you how to batch prepare all of the meal plans for the week and, oh yeah- you can even follow along with their VIDEOS if that’s not enough for you! For those who say “it’s too much work”. Dudes. Can you get any lazier? If you’re not willing to put 20 mins into preparing a healthy meal, then just stick to MacDonalds and the health consequences of the fast food life. I mean- seriously. If you have even the slightest bit of motivation and desire to be healthier and eat better, this book offers options that will work for you (including a “budget” and “best bang for the buck” section for food shopping on a budget).

Excellent resource for anyone trying to heal through diet

I don't buy a lot of cookbooks, so I have to be pretty convinced that a cookbook is going to be a winner before I add it to my small collection. Having recently developed a sensitivity to nightshades, I was struggling to find recipes in my regular Paleo cookbooks, so I started looking at AIP recipes to help make things easier. If you're not familiar with AIP, the beginning pages of this book will lay the foundation. There are beautiful, detailed charts about which foods to eat and avoid, how to stock your pantry, etc. The recipes are simple, and many make use of pantry items or produce/meat that I usually have on hand. (In that way, this book is a lot like an AIP version of Real Life Paleo by the Paleo Parents.) Sometimes I struggle with Paleo cookbooks because they call for cuts of meat I can't find locally or don't have any idea how to cook. This book has a good variety but is really reasonable about the ingredients and cuts of meat called for. Almost everything needed is something I can find in my small town that only has regular grocery stores (plantains are the exception). I received this book in the middle of the week and was able to make a couple of meals out of it just by using things I had in my freezer or pantry. My family has enjoyed everything I've made, and I have many more recipes marked to try in the next few weeks/months. Above all, this cookbook doesn't make me feel like I'm missing out. Being on a restricted diet, even temporarily, is tough. Cooking every meal gets old fast. But these recipes get me in and out of the kitchen quickly, and they're as good as (or better than!) any non-AIP recipes I've made. It's so nice to be able to page through a cookbook and not have to think about substitutions. At this stage in my healing journey, I am incredibly thankful to have found this resource.

Outstanding!!! I'd give it more stars if I could

Outstanding cookbook! I was SO nervous about doing the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP). I've got Sarah's first book, The Paleo Approach and was really looking forward to her cookbook. But when I saw all the "exotic" ingredients, I decided doing this protocol was NOT for me. I checked out a few other cookbooks and their recipes really didn't appeal either. I back-burnered the AIP idea. Then I had some health issues and decided to revisit it. I read another review here on Amazon and it was slightly disparaging of this cookbook - not enough organ meats, and really basic recipes. Not what that gourmet cook was looking for BUT it was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I turned around and purchased the cookbook and was absolutely BLOWN away by the recipes. Every single one I tried (even the ones I was skeptical about - taco night without nightshades and tomatoes? Hmmm...) has been amazing. My DH raved about the taco night one! I've made drinks, sides, mains, breakfasts (I'm eating the Caesar Beef stir-fry thing as I type). I never realized how fabulous a restricted food list could taste. I'm absolutely NOT missing anything and I've been introduced to some ingredients and recipes I probably would have scooted right by had I not decided to do AIP. I thank Sarah and Alaena from the bottom of my heart (and stomach). I've never been so happy and satisfied with a cookbook I think in my life! The Red Sangria is amazing, the Moscow Mule is really refreshing. There is pizza, there are crackers, and a great intro explaining why to eat this way. GET THE COOKBOOK! You won't be sorry (unless you are really hankering for exotic ingredients that you can't get at a local store or Amazon (I'm in rural southern MN 'Nuff said) then you'll want to try out her Paleo Approach cookbook. I can't imagine it would be any less wonderful)

This is a great collection of Paleo AIP recipes

This is a great collection of Paleo AIP recipes. If you are new to the plan, then it has essential information on planning, shopping lists, "yes" and "no" foods and of course REALLY DELICIOUS food! I have literally made the "Hearty Healing Beef Stew" a dozen times (and my non-AIP Paleo have requested the recipe) which hits all the right notes with orange and cinnamon and meltingly tender beef. Other favorites are the "Comforting Breakfast Casserole" with ground beef, apples, molasses and onions, topped with a pureed plantain crust, "Pumpkin Chili" with ground beef, mushrooms and pumpkin pie spices, and "'Cheesy' Broccoli Soup"--pureed with avocado and nutritional yeast! There are recipes for AIP Paleo basics, like Bone Broth and coconut-based sauces that sub for other things like mayonnaise. I'm also partial to the "House Rub" all-purpose seasoning mix--I use it on ribs that I make in my Instant Pot. There are vegetable sides, salads, snacks and even desserts. The recipes are well-written, and have at-a-glance information for prep time, cook time AND total time, servings, and icons that show if it's a quick recipe, one-pot, or with fewer than 5 ingredients, etc. It will take me years to make all of the recipes that appeal to me, and these are recipes that are delicious enough to serve and eat even if you're not following the plan--they're THAT good. Oh, and by the way, there is a section on how to reintroduce foods into your diet, keeping in mind that AIP Paleo is basically an elimination diet for many, and some "No" foods may be allowable for you--test it and see! If you are on a limited budget and only want to buy one book, this would be an excellent place to start. (If you want to go for two, try

I love my digital copy of this cookbook!

I purchased a digital copy to us on my Kindle app on my ipad. I love how the book is laid out. There are links to each chapter in the table of contents, for easy access to the chapter or recipe section that I want. There are some great sections at the beginning reviewing the AIP process and cooking tips for turning your kitchen into a place to cook for healing. I like how the various recipe sections begin with a list of the recipes with links to click to move right to the one you want instead of having to swipe through page after page to find it. I especially like how the recipes are listed in the "meal plan" sections with a small picture of each recipe and a link. There are 4 meal plans, with shopping lists and links to recipes, as well as special sections linking to recipes that fall into useful categories such as One-Pot meals, 5 ingredients or less, 20 minutes or less and so on. Very helpful when needing to keep things simple. In reviewing the recipes, I was pleased to find them easy and not overwhelming. When trying to heal, one does not have a lot of energy or stamina for complicated recipes that call for hard to find ingredients. This cookbook fits the bill with recipes that anyone can make that are packed full of spices and sauces so they taste good too! The authors also include numerous recipes for sauces and other substitutions needed to adapt to a healing diet. These recipes are needed to complete some of the recipes in the book, but are also great to use in adapting your own favorite recipes to fit the protocol. I'm glad to have this tool to use in continuing to grow my own "healing kitchen."

Best book to start out with AIP.

I find The Healing Kitchen to be the most useful to get started. The Paleo Approach, also by Sarah Ballantyne, has a lot of really great in depth information, but for me that made it more difficult to sift through to what I needed. I like to have a basic understanding ("This will reduce inflammation and help your body heal"), then straightforward instructions ("Eat this, not that. Have this for breakfast, this for lunch, this for dinner."), THEN I can get into the theory and more details behind the science of it. Plus, I don't think I am unique in coming to this way of eating while in an autoimmune flare. If I felt great then I wouldn't have bothered, kwim? But that also meant I didn't have the mental stamina to do a lot of research and get through a lot of information. I love to research stuff, so that was a big clue that I was in a bad way and needed it more than ever! Anyway, I got off on a tangent.... I feel like THK does a really good job explaining both the science and telling you what to do. You can skip past all the theory and go straight to the meal plans, or you can read through the first part of the book then get to the meals and recipes. I do recommend actually reading it at some point. It's a very accessible book, even if you are in a flare. The recipes are very good, with simple easy to find ingredients. If there are multiple cooking options (ie, stove vs oven vs pressure cooker) they are all listed with a recipe. There are make ahead tips where possible as well as storage and freezing information where applicable. The number of meal plans makes it all brainless, which is really great when you are both busy and tired.

OUTSTANDING!!!

I am a great cook but not a chef (someone who creates recipes), but I have to say that I LOVE this cookbook! I purchased a Instant Pot and have been living the AIP Life and so happy about it. In my family we have been all about food - Mom and Dad were fabulous cooks, and my brother is a great cook as well. So I feel I am not losing the layer of flavor that Ina Garten always talks about. Ok, so far everything I have made and I've loved: Vibrant healing soup base (note: used coconut milk instead of cream, which is too sweet for me.), Hamburger Stew is Delish, Love the Bacon Salmon Chowder, Adore the Pumpkin Chili, Excellent Hearty Healing Beef Stew, Tasty New England Clam Chowder, Really, Really good Meat Sauce and Spaghetti, Good BBQ Pulled Pork, Couldn't stop eating the Speedy Shanghai Stir-Fry, Took me to my childhood - Cinnamon Pork & Applesauce, SO, SO Enjoyed the Seared Shrimp Pasta with White Sauce, Total Comfort Food when eating the Silky Potato Puree (And thank you Publix for carrying white sweet potatoes). I look forward to make the rest of the recipes. I have not had this cook book for all that long and am thrilled to enjoy so many recipes! Thank You Alaena and Sarah!!!! I so love you both! You are both so important to the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) community. My Functional Medicine Doctor told me about Sarah [...] when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and because of Sarah I discover Alaena [...]

The recipes are great, whether you do AIP or not

My daughter and I are on week 5 of using the recipes per the menus in middle of the book. I think we've only found two recipes we wouldn't make again (okay, three - the mango gummies weren't a hit). I've shared the food with others NOT doing the AIP and they are loving the food. I love the Artichoke Babaganosh, the Lemon Pilaf, the Healthy Hearty Stew, the clam chowder (and I'm not fond of clam chowder). These recipes are so good, I would consider doing AIP for a lifetime. I have several other paleo-type cookbooks that I love, but this has become my hands down favorite. Even if you are not doing AIP, this definitely broadens your food horizons. (Isn't it funny how people ask "What do you eat?" when there are a plethora of other foods to eat other than meat and potatoes and junk food?) I do miss certain things, like ground black pepper, but I'm surprised that there are herb combinations that mimic enough to not miss it a lot. Since I've been doing a Whole30 type of lifestyle for a couple of years, I don't miss the breads and cheeses. I thought I would miss tomatoes more than I do. Give this book a try.

Great cookbook (especially for those who need structure!)

I am hypothyroid and have been following the paleo diet for 9 months - some food sensitivities continue, so I need to try the more restrictive AIP diet. I am not the best cook, and I have felt overwhelmed grabbing recipes here and there from my few paleo cookbooks and pinterest. The meal plans are what I am most excited about. I think there is a meal plan in this cookbook for every kind of cook, including reluctant but committed cooks like me. I am planning on making the General Meal Plan #4 first (because it looks so yummy), but there are meal plans containing only one pot meals, 5 ingredient or less meals, 20 minutes or less meals, and on and on. There are so many recipes in this book that I will actually cook, that I am excited about getting started. Our family makes breakfast for our Christmas meal, and I am definitely making Bacon-wrapped Apple and Cinnamon Sausage! UPDATED 7/17/2016: This is still my favorite cookbook, although I use the Against All Grain books, too. Our favorite main dish recipes are Sweet & Savory Shepherd's Pie, Teriyaki Chicken & Fried (cauliflower) Rice, Garlic & Rosemary Crusted Pork Loin, Ham & Pineapple Pizza, Bacon Date Crusted Salmon, and Beef Pot Pie. I make double batches of some of these to freeze for lunch at work. I have liked every recipe I have tried, and I enjoy trying new recipes because I know I will probably like them. *I have to leave onion out of my recipes, and everything still tastes fantastic.

Great cookbook for autoimmune folks

This is the first cookbook I've found that doesn't include, nuts, dairy, soy, and nightshades in their recipes. It's wonderful if your on a autoimmune diet. I've gone through 5 cookbooks so far. Fortunately I was able to get them from my library so I wasn't out the money. It's frustrating when I thought, okay this will work, it's a Paleo cookbook. Then come to find out they would use almond flour, or cashew nuts for cheese, ect. ect. If your on a strict diet this is the book for you. Recipes are delish. Snacks are yummy. Recipes are easy to follow. Believe me, I've struggled with this new way of eating. It hasn't been easy. I've had my ups and downs. If I want to be healthy and slow down my body attacking itself then I needed to find a way through diet to do that. This book has helped. I finally feel I'm in control not my autoimmune disease. Everything is a learning process. Believe me it's really important to take care of your body. It's the only one you'll ever have. Stick with your diet. You might take a few steps backwards. That's okay. I sure did. Your body will thank you for taking such loving care of it. I thought I better add for those of you who are new.......no wheat or grains in recipes.

They give you everything you need :)

These recipes are great and I love the 12 different weeklong meal plans. I have been working my way through the first meal plan and have made the breakfast sausages, oven-baked pancakes, anti-inflammatory meatballs and the honey balsamic dressing with the kale & peach salad. The recipes are not hard at all, especially if you have been doing paleo or have completed a whole30. I have learned that I really enjoy cooking without eggs, nightshades, etc- it’s just one less ingredient to deal with! Each recipe has storage tips for both fridge and freezer, serving suggestions and make ahead tips for each recipe. There are even 2 one-week-batch-cooking-mealplans with step-by-step instructions and a video you can watch online. I am really looking forward to making more recipes from this book. They are delicious and HEALING!

Not for people watching blood sugars or people with insulin resistance

First off, the introduction section of this book is fantastic. I love the scales weighing good and bad components of food groups on page 36. Also the immune system superheroes provides nice visual suggestions for getting more of specific nutrients. My big issue with the book is every meal is high in carbs. For anyone with metabolic syndrome, PCOS, diabetes, insulin resistance, etc. these meals will spike blood sugar. I personally can't eat plantains or sweet potatoes or loads of fruit all day long for optimal health. Also, despite organ meats and fish/shellfish featuring prominently in the intro, there are very few recipes including these ingredients. I recently purchased The Nutrient Dense Kitchen by Mickey Trescot. It is much more reasonable regarding carbs. Root vegetables feature prominently in it, but she doesn't go overboard on fruit. Also she provides more savory main dishes. (I prefer this to all the sweet main dishes in The Healing Kitchen.) For anyone watching blood sugars or insulin resistance, save your money and don't buy this book. If, however, you love lots of carbs and sweet main dishes (like salmon with roasted raspberries, raisin and spice meatballs, Hawaiian pulled pork, etc.) then this is the book for you.

Most helpful cookbook for clean and healthy eating

I finally broke down and bought this book after hearing so much about it and reading the other wonderful reviews. I already had numerous Paleo cookbooks, but none that were strictly autoimmune protocol friendly. I wanted to do a couple of months of clean eating without foods that trigger autoimmune responses in my body so I finally decided to splurge on this. I have had this book for about 1.5 weeks and LOVE IT!!! I don't know if I have ever found a cookbook so practical and helpful!! I used a shopping list on Saturday to buy a week's worth of groceries and then I spent last Sunday cooking an entire week of meals from the batch cooking recommendations. The practical meal planning suggestions are so nice when you need a change and need someone else to help you change things up and make mealtimes more interesting. My favorite meal so far is the clam chowder and it was super easy! All of the meals have been a big hit. I was a little skeptical about the Mac 'n Cheese that doesn't have either macaroni or cheese, but it was a yummy dish bursting with flavor, reminiscent of mac 'n cheese, but good on its own merit. My friends at work were jealous of the pulled pork that smelled as delicious as it tasted! This cookbook both instructs and inspires.

The recipes are awful!

The opening chapters of the book were ok. Nothing you can't get from countless websites and blogs about AIP and paleo, but whatever. However, the recipes are just awful. I made wild salmon with roasted raspberries. I really liked the idea of it and was excited. The recipe does warn you that the seeds from the raspberries are crunchy (duh! I eat raspberries regularly so I didn't realize why that would be in issue). However, it fails to mention that the crunchiness of the raspberries paired with salmon results in the most unpleasant texture which can most closely be described as the feeling of eating fish full of hundreds of little bones. Yuck! I also tried baked carrot-banana bread n'oatmeal and it was cloyingly sweet, ended up in the trash. I tried one of the hash recipes too and while it wasn't as gross as the first two, it definitely wasn't amazing. For the record, I have no issues with AIP. I have been following it successfully for over three months now and I am enjoying the food and getting excellent results. I have been adapting classic recipes and coming up with my own. In other words, it's not that I don't know how to make deeply satisfying meals that strictly adhere to AIP guidelines, it's just that these particular recipes are just not tasty and this was a very disappointing purchase :(

My Go To Cookbook for AIP Meals

I have purchased several AIP cookbooks and so far this one is my favorite! The recipes I tried are ones I end up adding on to my regular rotation. I didn't think I was going to like Raisin and Spice Meatballs but I did and hubby devoured them! And who ever heard of mashed carrots or putting raspberries on salmon? I don't even like raspberries but maybe I do now! My daughter's favorite was the pulled pork. These were recipes you would enjoy even if you weren't on an elimination diet!

Great

Very helpful

Not for IBS

I really enjoyed the way this cookbook is laid out. There are several meal plans as well as indexes for 5 ingredients or less, one-pot meals, etc. there is also a picture for EVERY recipe in this book. Love that. However, I have IBS and so many of the recipes will not work for me because there is a heavy emphasis on garlic and onions. But I would say that if someone does not have IBS, this cookbook would be great for them!

love the recipes; could do without all the meal plans

I'm glad I decided to order this book in spite of the bad reviews talking about too much plantain and strange ingredients. I did not see the yellow print that was mentioned in many reviews. I have not tried any of the recipes yet, because I only received the book two days ago, but I can't wait to try. I absolutely love almost every recipe from reading instructions and ingredients. The ingredients are easily available at Kroger or Whole Foods ( I live in rural North Carolina ). I will try all of the spice mixes, sauces, veggies. I have to agree with some reviewers that more side dishes would have been nice. Carolina BBQ sauce based on sweet potato ? Heck yes I'm gonna make that ! The book is inspiring. The recipes are simple enough for beginners. The only reason why I am not giving 5 stars are the many, many weekly planners. The introduction takes up almost one third of the book ( a little over 100 pages out of roughly 350 pages ). I think that's too much. Due to histamine intolerance, I can't do leftovers. So all the batch cooking and weekly planning is a waste of paper for people like me. Nonetheless, I love the book.

Excellent!

I was very pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the recipes are in this book - everything I've made has been absolutely delicious. I love having a useful AIP cookbook I can actually leaf through, have in my kitchen while cooking, and make notes in. (So much easier for me than searching online and having to scroll through blogs to find the actual recipes...) We've been eating AIP for 5 years, and have tried countless recipes always with high hopes (if you're on the AIP diet you know how tough it can be), but I had kind of given up and was resigned to eating a grilled meat or fish with sautéed veggies for every meal. Now we can have things like PIZZA!! And oven-fried chicken!! Our kids even enjoy what I've made using this cookbook. One caveat: most of the recipes are pretty involved, so be prepared for that - but you will be rewarded for your work!

Amazing Recipes and Visually stunning AIP book

Update: I'm relying more and more on AIP books in my paleo journey that helps manage autoimmune disease. I can't recommend this book enough. I love all the recipes. This book gets the most use in my kitchen. I keep coming back to the same favorites and discovering new favorites in here. The taste of each meal, snack, side dish, sauce and dessert is always amazing. Everyone needs to know: this book rocks! Update: it's been a year and this is one of my favorite paleo cook books. I haven't tried everything as I perseverate on the same recipes for a while. The oven baked pancakes, pizzas, Stromboli, Caesar skillet, baba ganoush, carrot banana porridge, spaghetti squash porridge and many others have become staples in my home. I'm so grateful for this book. Your taste buds will thank you bc these recipes are all delicious and it's so exciting to have a big book of AIP recipes that make your mouth water just looking st the photos! Original review: Feeling a little overwhelmed by my condition and starting AIP, this book has come at a perfect time. It has great information on the diet and the recipes are mouthwatering and make it seem easy and delicious to be AIP. I'm grateful for this added resource in my AIP library.

Great tasting recipes

Our doctor suggested we get this cookbook when she put my husband on an anti-inflammatory diet. The recipes called for foods that we don’t normally eat, like plantains, and unusual spice combinations for us. But I tried them and everything we’ve made so far has been delicious! The recipes aren’t difficult Andi are very healthy and satisfying!

I love this book!

The title of the book is exactly what the book is about “the healing kitchen.” I don’t understand why this book has any bad reviews. The recipes are perfect especially if you are someone suffering from any kind of autoimmune disorder, “arthritis, lupus, diabetes, ms, psoriasis, eczema, etc..” My daughter suffers from an autoimmune disorder and has severe eczema and asthma - the recipes in this book have helped her a lot. She no longer needs her inhaler and her acne and eczema has completely cleared up. My daughter is allergic to nightshades and this book has a lot of recipes that help with food substitutes. Follow the recipes and see your life change.

Great book, incredible recipes

Amazing cookbook. A month ago my wife and I started AIP. This cookbook has really changed the entire way we look at food. We thought we ate clean before, but now everything is from scratch. We both feel good, we're losing weight, and our inflammatory conditions have improved. We plan our meals on Sunday with this book, go get groceries, then cook throughout the week. These recipes are really good! Family members taste the food and can't believe it has no butter, dairy, etc. You get the most bang for your buck with the slow cooker recipes. We have done a few recipes from Nourish and the ones in The Healing Kitchen are by far the easiest. You MUST have a good food processor and a good set of knives to start this diet. We're using a Ninja for blending and food processing. I've had to order some ingredients from Amazon. It is kind of a learning process to figure out what grocery stores stock what foods, but after a few weeks it gets faster. You mainly just need the vegetable aisle and the meat aisle. I can't recommend this book enough. AIP would be alot harder without this book!

Beautiful, helpful AIP guide

Probably one of the best AIP paleo resources in print. It is NOT just a cookbook. The first third or so is a thoughtful guide to AIP that is both approachable and detailed. I wasn't looking for a guide to AIP, but I still appreciated reading through it and looking at some of the graphics -- it really helps me as I explain my journey to others. Also, food lists. Shopping guides. Real life suggestions for approaching this often difficult diet. The recipes. People, these recipes are life changing. I am NOT good at following recipes, per se, I definitely approach cookbooks as inspiration tools, but if you're a person who NEEDS recipes, and you need simple, approachable recipes for genuinely good food, this is the book for you. The recipes are simple, they're fast, and they mostly use easy to find ingredients. They also produce AMAZING food. So good. So impressive. And yet so simple! This book is going viral in AIP support groups for good reason: the recipes are simple and delicious, the guide at the beginning is amazing, and the book is beautiful. Everyone who is looking in to AIP and wanting to heal their bodies with the Autoimmune Protocol needs this book.

Not just for Paleo folks

Not just for those looking for Paleo or autoimmune-friendly recipes, though they are certainly that. I like the use of healthy, natural foods. The books itself is attractive and well-organized. I don't own many cookbooks anymore (the internet makes most of them obsolete), but this is a keeper.

A unique addition to the cookbook shelf, one of my favorites!

This is a good book for inspiration in clean eating, and it has turned out to become one of my favorites. The first 75 pages is geared towards foods to avoid and foods to eat, elimination and reintroduction, spices to use, etc. The next 25 pages is devoted to weekly meal plans with different themes. General meal plans, one-pot meal plans, 5 ingredients or less meal plans, quick meals, leftover meals, etc. The plans layout breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, and include a full shopping list. This is one of my favorites sections because it takes all the thinking and planning out of the equation. I can quickly substitute a meal or two from another plan and have the entire week planned out in advance. The remaining 220 or so pages is your typical cookbook style layout, with all sorts of recipes and LOTS of pictures. I'd say at least 90% of the recipes have photos, which I love. I find the recipes to be fairly simple with not too many of those exotic ingredients that nobody has in their pantry. Definitely a great addition to the cookbook shelf, and one that I go to regularly.

Beautiful cookbook with great information!

This is the most excited I've been for a book to arrive in recent memory. If you are new to AIP or have been doing it for a long time, this book is a must have. I am having so much fun just looking through the book. It has beautiful pictures that go with every recipe and so many unique things to try. I usually end up finding 2 or 3 recipes in a cookbook that I'm excited to make. This one has so many that I can't wait to try. And they mostly look relatively easy and don't use strange ingredients. A very creative approach to healthy eating. I have been doing AIP for 10 months and I have kind of gotten into a rut, using the same old recipes. I am so excited to have a whole bunch of new ones and to try out the meal plans. The book also has great explanations of the "whys" behind the protocol and clear charts on what to eat/not eat, etc. I haven't actually had a chance to try the recipes yet, but having cooked recipes from the blogs of the authors, I expect them to be great.

Everyone should own + read!

I haven’t made any recipes yet (just got the book) but it’s organization is impeccable! The book is color coordinated, has vibrant pictures, + a plethora of relative information. Very well thought-out. I can tell the authors put a lot of work into it. The only things I’d change are if the publisher could print a lay-flat version (it has 175 recipes after all) + add more drinks such as lattes. I can’t say enough good things about this book!!!! :)

My favorite paleo recipe book!

I own at least four paleo recipe books and this is by far my favorite! I have made a number of the simple recipes and plan to make many more. I have never cooked with plantains before and look forward to adding them to my "cooking" knowledge base as a result of this book. I am also learning more about herbs and seasoning my foods. I love that it is a quality book with beautiful photos! I'd like to give this as gifts to family in hopes they'd find it as unique and helpful as I do. Not too long ago, the idea of the name "paleo" really turned me off (and seemed way out there and not doable), but I'm so happy I am giving it a chance as my health is in need of this plan. This book takes the paleo concept a step further and incorporates the AIP protocol and makes perfect sense for anyone to start here and then find out what other "paleo" foods they might be able to add down the road. The healing kitchen is a wonderful name for this fantastic book and recipe collection.

Good AIP cookbook

I'm very much enjoying the recipes, but I think almost all of them require some tweaking on flavors for my typical American palate. I know it's tough getting used to not using all the spices in my cabinet, but there are still a few things that work better. For instance. Meatballs should never be just beef--it's too tough. I'm going to try mixing in some ground pork and coconut milk, and something like coconut flour to make them softer with a better texture. All AIP. Oh, and more salt! I think every recipe needs more salt. Don't be afraid of the shaker, gals! Also, the instructions for batch cooking need help. For example: When you cook two chickens at once you need to change cooking times. That would have been nice to know. Other than tweaking things, I love all the ideas. It's very helpful to have at least a basis for new AIP recipes. And I'm perfectly capable of tweaking. That's why it's nice to have the paperback, so I can make many, many notes!

I have Sarah's Paleo Approach and Paleo Approach Cookbook and I really like that she goes into the science of why she's ...

Trying to go AIP is somewhat overwhelming until you realize there are really TONS of things you can still eat. I have quite a few AIP cookbooks but I still fall off the wagon every now and then. So, when I get a new book that is inspirational, it always help keep me on track. This book is one of those! I haven't made it to the actual recipes yet, but the photos are yummy-looking! I have Sarah's Paleo Approach and Paleo Approach Cookbook and I really like that she goes into the science of why she's saying what she's saying. I was not familiar with Alaena, so I enjoyed reading her bio pages and getting to know her a bit. I've just finished Chapter 1, but so far, I really like it! Just flipping through it, the recipes appear to be fairly easy and I like that they've used little icons at the top of each to show you if they are 5 ingredients or less, 20 minutes or less, No cook, One pot and/or Leftovers reinvented! Can't wait to jump into the recipes section and start making some of these!

very informative with good flavors

i'm still feeling my way through autoimmune disease and a bad gut that has stirred up a lot of food sensitivities like chicken, beef, fish, avocado, garlic, onions, and cane sugar. i struggle with energy to cook things, but i have made a few recipes from this cookbook with great results. i've learned to swap bison for beef, turkey for chicken, and have been re-working my taste buds to get used to no alliums. i've made the banana pancakes from this cookbook four times now because they're such an easy meal prep item for the week. you literally throw everything into a food processor and then spoon it out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. cleanup is so easy! and then each morning i heat a couple in the toaster oven and eat with a teaspoon of maple syrup on the side that i dip them into. thanks for the book, ladies.

If you buy one book this is it

I think this book is AMAZING. I have probably 8-10 books on the subject of AIP lifestyle. This book is jam packed with useful content: delicious mainstream recipes with reasonable ingredients, meal plans, science based general information, tons of photos, and even lists of recipes with certain focus - like quick, few ingredients, easy clean up. It stacks the deck for success. I think if I had found this book first, I could have saved hundreds of dollars on other books. Start here! Thank you for the generous content and thoughtful information!!!!!

YUMMY FOOD IN 30 MINS!

LOVE THIS BOOK!! I think there were mixed reviews that I read about people thinking the recipes weren’t “quick and easy” but I’m guessing they wanted “fast food”. These meals take me about 30 minutes to cook (which any other non-compliant meal does too), so they don’t take “long” to me... that’s just how long it takes to cook dinner! All the recipes are delicious! Both my mom and I eat them, and we’re AIP/ Paleo. My husband even likes the food too!! It has meals, sides, grocery lists, leftover ideas... this book is awesome! I meal plan on Saturday so i know what to buy at the grocery store Sunday, and I have everything I need to cook! I already have a lot of the staples in my cabinet because I’ve been eating this way for a year now, so it may seem expensive to “start up” but it’s so worth it!

A cook book for someone who doesnt normally like cookbooks!

I'm not someone who enjoys cooking, but someone who sees cooking as a necessary part of my job as mum to five children. I want easy to prepare food that doesn't zap my brain cells reading a recipe I don't understand, or zap my energy by spending too much time chopping or doing multiple steps in tandem. So I normally don't like cookbooks! However, with my husband going paleo, I knew I didn't have more than a few recipes up my sleeve. I got this book and have been very satisfied. I would say of the 20 I've tried, ten have become welcome repeats, easy to follow, simple ingredients, delicious results. And of 20, only one or two I actually didn't like, or were too labor intensive or required a weird ingredient I didn't have. For me, pictures are crucial, and so I was happy to have every recipe shown with a nice photo. It's a wonderful cookbook. I love the way it is organized. Truly, I don't have one negative thing to say!

My favorite cookbook!

This is the best AIP/paleo cookbook I have ever owned, a real game changer for me. It has helped me regain some sanity where I needed some direction and order as far as knowing what to cook and having a rotation. A paleo plan for healing can take so much time (and dishes) but Alaena and Sarah really make it simple with these recipes. It's also great for a budget because the ingredients used are accessible, and they even include meal plans and grocery lists in the front of the book. One of my favorite recipes is the baked carrot banana bread n'oatmeal. I make this often, freeze in single servings and have for breakfast with protein. The prosciutto stromboli is phenomenal and very easy to make. Also, there is a beautiful photo of every single recipe in the book! If you have someone in your family with allergies and need some fantastic recipes, or are looking for a staple AIP or paleo cookbook, or just want delicious and health-giving food, this is your book!

I found Hope in a cookbook

This was probably my first purchase after getting "the news". I was determined to find hope in my diagnosis, so I hit the ground running to find anything that could help my body stop struggling. It was a desperate, quick search but this was high up on the list so I ordered it. I bought another cookbook here that day, but this one arrived first. I'm so very glad it did. Immediately upon thumbing through this, I knew life as I had known it was not over- it was only beginning. There is so much information available in this book, not just the recipes which are all simple, accessible and yummy, but it can serve comprehensively as an intro-guide for newbies to the AIP paleo world. It did for me. I am so grateful to have had this book at the very start. It allowed me to stop mourning what I've lost and begin loving all the delicious good eating I have to gain. Very useful, very appreciated!

Five Stars

This book arrived within a couple of days and I was instantly attracted to it's colorful images of the dishes. The introduction/instruction section was very helpful since I was new to following the AIP diet (Auto Immune Protocol). The recipes are clustered together by meal or type, such as Breakfast, Snack, etc. The authors also provide easy to follow charts for 4 weeks of meal planning. I loved how they included the page each recipe could be found within the charts. Another helpful section of this book included suggestions of where to find some of the harder to locate ingredients. Overall, I am extremely happy with this book. I have been following recipes from it for 4 weeks. If there was one thing I could change about this book, it would be to make the pages laminated. I have to keep the book open in order to follow the detailed, and unique AIP recipes and I am not the neatest chef! I have already tainted several of the pages.

A must have for the autoimmune paleo kitchen!

Vibrant photos with easy to follow recipes. The best part is that the recipes that I have tried so far have turned out delicious! An excellent cookbook for those with allergen issues and/or those following the AIP (Autoimmune Paleo, Autoimmune Protocol) lifestyle. I have to be gluten, dairy and soy free for my health, but my husband does not. He has absolutely loved everything that I have made from this cookbook. He absolutely hates sweet potatoes, but will actually ask me to make the sweet potato "au gratin" potatoes. FYI: For those missing a good alfredo sauce, check out the caulifredo sauce on page 119 (at least I think it was that page, near there) as it is seriously yummy! The recipes are easy to follow, the pictures are divine and realistic, your food actually resembles the pictures when you have finished the recipe! This has become my go to cookbook!

Oh My Goodness!

I have been struggling for years with ulcerative colitis. After listening to a JJ Virgin podcast with Sarah i started to dig in to the AIP way of life and decided to get the Healthy Kitchen Cookbook. I'm not one to write reviews, but I couldn't let this one go by. This cookbook provides educational information and power to take control of your health. The recipes are Absolutely amazing! They are easy to follow real food recipes that anyone can make. I'm enjoying these recipes more than the old way of cooking. Every detail of this cookbook has been so well thought out! I can tell that it has been created with heart and soul! Thank you Alaena and Sarah for helping me with a really big step for Better health!

Rarely buy cookbooks

I bought this on a whim and have actually really liked this cookbook. I’m not paleo but was looking for some inspiring veggie and simple meat recipes and this has not disappointed. Great pictures and simple ingredients, nothing seems too complex. Pleasantly impressed!

Good, but disappointing.

I was eagerly awaiting this book to add to my auto-immune cooking resources. It is filled with lovely photos and many delicious looking recipes. I personally tend to not use meal plans, so while many might find the well organized plans useful, I don't. A minor quibble is the frequent use of "see tip/note on page XX" when there is plenty of space on the current page to reprint the tip/note right there rather than making me flip back and forth to complete one recipe. Auto-immune cooking is as much about the 'eat this' as it is the 'avoid that'. So my disappointment and relatively low rating is for the lack of key 'eat this' recipes. There is only one organ meat recipe. Little of fermented foods. Nothing of the super healthy but 'harder' to introduce sardines and other 'small' fish. Nothing 'exotic' here, which may have been part of their goal: make auto-immune cooking more accessible. But the omission of the key 'eat these nutrient dense foods' make this a secondary rather than a key auto-immune cook book. It is a useful resource for adding some interesting dishes to my repertoire, but for someone just starting with auto-immune cooking, I'd recommend Dr. Ballantyne's other cookbook (The Paleo Approach Cookbook) over this one every time.

When Sarah announced she was doing a new cookbook, I preordered it as soon as I could. I admit, over 2 years ago when I started AIP, I was overwhelmed, confused, and eating "bare bones". Then, I encountered Sarah's blog and she opened the world to me. Following AIP changed my life This book is a welcome addition to seasoned AIPers because it offers a host of recipes that are delicious but easy to make, cost-effective, AND tasty enough that few people would even notice. For the newer people exploring AIP, this explains the fundamentals with recipes that make you think "hey, I can do this!" I would recommend starting with this book and then Sarah's book "The Paleo Approach". Sarah's PhDs carry the weight to explain the science behind AIP - in a really fun and comprehensive way. On top of it, the 178 recipes kick-booty. Nutrient-dense, healthy, and HEALING recipes? Yes please!

Pictures to drool over, food to restore health

The Healing Kitchen by Sarah Ballantine & Alaena Haber is so cool! It’s a visual feast with so many, many wonderful pictures of delicious looking and healthy meals, and includes shopping lists for already worked out weekly meal plans designed for different styles of eaters/cooks. The ingredients are easily found in almost any supermarket, and for those occasions when something is out of season or you just don’t want to run out to the store right then, there’s an easy substitutions table included. The informative graphics are amazing, so that it’s easy to see how the food choices fit together to improve your household’s health. I see crispy salmon hash in my near future! Edit: I bought the paperback format, not the Kindle edition, so my review is labeled wrong. This book s so graphics intensive, I wouldn't expect it would be anywhere near as nice in the Kindle version.

Worth the money!

Don't think about buying this book. But it. It's the best cookbook I've owned. I am the type that gets bored with cookbooks because I think yes I know how to cook this or that give me something new! This cookbook does it. The flavors are awesome. The stuff is easy to make and they don't call for crap that you won't just have on hand. Ok well you will have to buy stuff but you should have most of the ingredients. I'm seriously in love with this book. And I haven't even started the meal plans! I'm doing that next week!! I got the book and literally made a recipe that I flipped too right then and there. Bacon wrapped apples sprinkled with cinnamon. The kids ended up eating these for breakfast and then again after school as a snack. LOVE!

Exactly as described. Very good condition.

The book is as described as a used book. Very good condition. As for the book, colorful and descriptive.

Exactly what this Momma of a little one needed to get back to the AIP Diet for Celiac Disease!

While I'm a big fan of the blogs both of these ladies put together this book hits the ball out of the park. The recipes are simple and the basics of the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol are easy understood and explained in this book. I have been off the AIP diet since I had my first baby and I didn't do reintroduction the way I should have but the meal plan and recipes in this book are so simple I can actually see my husband (not a cook) pulling them off without trouble. I was extra excited about the simplicity of this book. There are meal plans for people with kids to please; people who don't like dishes; and people who don't like the spend time in the kitchen. This book is now my #1 recommendation to anyone looking to following the AIP Diet for healing, wellness, and nutrient density.

My new favorite cookbook!

This cookbook is beautiful and gives me hope! I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, chronic hives and reactive hypoglycemia- I'm allergic to eggs, gluten, dairy, and nuts and I'm SO excited that I can eat EVERYTHING in this book! Everything in the book looks so delicious and what I appreciate even more is I can see myself cooking from this book on a regular basis. no weird hard to find ingredients or intense cooking processes, just simple, delicious, allergens free food I can enjoy and feed to my family during the week. As a mom to 3 boys under 5 that struggles with health and low energy this is the kind of cookbook I needed! So far we made the oven baked pancakes(which my crazy picky 5 year old loved!),the fig prosciutto Bistro pizza for dinner tonight(awesome!), and the pumpkin smoothie(so good!). I'm looking forward to cooking my way through the rest of this book!

Great recipes and great real life application

I love this cookbook. I've made so many recipes and they've almost all been successful and approved of by my non-AIP husband. I could make and eat the biscuits every day if I had the time. The pizza was amazing. Each recipe has been easy to follow and ingredients are easy to find with the exception of the white sweet potatoes. I always double the recipe for the stromboli and I've stuffed it with spinach, onions, and ham, instead of proscuitto. I haven't been disappointed by any recipe really. I had Mickey Trescot's book as well but found those recipes took a lot of time. These are reasonable in prep/cooking time. The meal plans are a wonderful source. I could go on about the recipes, they are great.

I love this cookbook!!

This cookbook has been a lifesaver on the AIP diet. It has great information about the diet as well as meal plans and overall great recipes that I use over and over. I use the whipped cinnamon and honey frosting as a dip for apples or on a banana and it's to die for. The Stromboli is a favorite of mine as well as the baked carrot no'tmeal. I highly recommend this cookbook if you are on the autoimmune protocol diet for any autoimmune disease. It's been a huge help for me!! If you only get one cookbook, this should be it!!

Absolutely wonderful!

I am SO pleased with this purchase!! I’ve been experiencing thyroid issues, most likely related to Hashimotos (waiting to do labs to confirm antibodies). I’ve changed my diet by cutting out gluten, dairy, soy, and whatever else has been known to cause inflammation, and I must say, I feel amazing! Initially, my doctor tried to put me on levothyroxine when my TSH was a little over 5, but I felt way too jittery, so I immediately stopped and knew I had to do something else to help myself... and I’m so glad I did. This book will serve to inspire me to continue to eat the way I have been, and I’m so thankful for it!

Great Book!

This book is really awesome. It has tons of recipes that are easy and really good. The ingredients used are at your local grocery. I have to say this is the best autoimmune cookbook I have bought so far.

Delicious Recipes!

OK! If you are wanting to even try AIP and are afraid of the restrictions being too restrictive, this is the book for you. I have been able to have my favorite foods, in an alternative form, made easily and quickly because of this book! It is a must if you are doing or wanting to do AIP/Paleo. I've made the stromboli, (YES) and crackers, date mousse, mac and cheese, you get it! I've been so happy with every recipe. Do yourself a favor, get this cookbook. You wont regret it or miss those "unapproved" foods. Eating the alternative ingredients in these recipes leaves me feeling so good I don't want or miss those old foods!

... both her other books which are so informative and wonderful. I'm so excited about this book which I ...

I've been following Sarah Ballantyne for 2 years now and have both her other books which are so informative and wonderful. I'm so excited about this book which I bought on the first day. I've only made 3-4 recipes out of it, but the layout, colors, photos and simplicity are delightful. The banana pancakes ROCK and I'm so excited to try the plantain recipes. The AIP can be such a limited diet, but these recipes have me feeling excited about cooking again. OK - Just made the Plantain Wraps and my daughter and I were very impressed. Bought the green plantains at an asian market, used a Cuisinart to blend ingredients together and they cooked up just as the recipe described. We made a sandwich with one, ate one plain with salt and pepper and another with cinnamon and honey. Good job Sarah and Alaena!!

Lots of coconut and plantains

While this book has some nice recipes, a lot of recipes feature coconut and banana/plantain. The coconuts are a no-no for some with nut intolerances and the starches are what drive a lot of people to AIP in the first place. Many arthritis sufferers report reduced pain when following reduced starch AIP. The coconut is even used a binder in many recipes that aren't coconut forward. For me, this book was disappointing in that sense. I would have loved to see a more mediteranean style. The recipes I tried were nice but overall, I got more value from recipe posters in the facebook groups supporting AIP than I did from this book... and those are free.

Delicious and Healthy! Enjoy food again

My sister gave me this book for Christmas as I was trying the autoimmune protocol to get well from unknown illness. I started cooking from scratch and this Brooke helped me so much. The recipes are so delicious and flavorful. I have almost cooked through the book. Carrot banana no' t meal, teriyaki chicken and cauliflower fried rice, carnitas, clam chowder, antipasto salad, and Hawaiian pork. I have made many others too. So many delicious foods which have made me not miss take out. The best part is you can easily freeze portions for quick meals after. Thank you for making healthy delicious. It has made such a huge difference in my life.

the recipes look awesome, delicious and healthy

this is more than a "book", this is a total life-style change. I personally was not prepared for the requirements to be successful with this approach. I was looking for a more "healthy" eating lifestyle, but this to me was extreme. The NO list is everything I have ever eaten in my life - everything.... I was prepared for moderation, replacing one item for another....but this goes way beyond that. That being said, the recipes look awesome, delicious and healthy....I am going to try a few of them and see how it goes.... IF you are ready to abandon everything you ever knew or thought you knew about eating healthy - this is the book for you!

Love this book

Love this book! After reading The Paleo Approach, I needed recipes. I'm so glad I bought this. It is expensive to buy everything needed for some of these recipes, but if my gut is healed after following this diet, that's more than worth it to me! I absolutely love the information that accompanies each recipe. Along with colorful pictures, there are recipe specific tips and every recipe states if it's a 20 minute meal, one pot meal, and 5 minutes or less prep time. There are several very specific meal plans also. Amazon's description is spot on and you won't be disappointed! This is an awesome cookbook..well worth the money!

I think it is just me but, the recipes are too hard

I enjoy looking through this now and then but cannot cook like these ladies. I am happy for them.

Ahh-MAZING!

I have most of the big time Paleo cookbooks and this one is so wonderful. I have Hashimoto's and am so happy that there are so many more resources for those of us following the AIP but this book is really special. I love, LOVE that they created meal plans for all sorts of different people that won't keep you in the kitchen all day. The recipes are incredible and having so many options is so fantastic. I've followed the AIP a few different times and got kind of stumped---bored with food choices, overwhelmed by so much cooking and missing regular Paleo foods. With this book and these awesome recipes, I am EXCITED to get back on a strict AIP. Thank you so much, Alaena and Sarah. Well done!

A Must Have!

Get this book!! I was not much of a cook before I purchased this, but it is easy to follow with super good recipes AND beautiful pictures. I am following the AIP and every recipe works for this. I wasn't sure if it would work for the Autoimmune Protical because the title mentions Paleo, which is similar to what I am following, but I don't eat dairy and nightshades. This works!! I have shared this with some family members and friends and they all bought it too! I love this cookbook and so does my 12 year old who is a picky eater. She loves many of the simple recipes...AND is happy Mom is cooking homemade delicious meals!

Inject new life into AIP cooking and eating

“The Healing Kitchen” has injected new life into cooking and eating on the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP). I’ve already flagged several recipes that I’ll be including in my holiday menus, and I’m looking forward to including many others in my everyday meals. For those just starting out on a healing journey, the book includes helpful information on functional foods, food quality, nutrients, ingredient swaps, eating on the go, meal plans, and more. For those experienced in AIP, the book provides refreshing summaries of key concepts as well as new recipes to delight the palate. As a long-time follower of Sarah Ballantyne’s print, podcast, and online work, I’m thrilled with this new addition to her body of work and congratulate her and coauthor Alaena Haber on their creation—an invaluable resource for anyone seeking a healthy life.

The Healing Kitchen helped me tremendously!

I bought this cookbook after I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I have followed Dr. Ballatyne for several years. I knew I needed inspiration and a place to start to learn about the AIP protocol and felt Dr. Ballatyne was the best place to start. The first meal we made was the Teriyaki Chicken and Cauliflower Rice. It ROCKED! We have tried about 50% of the recipes and keep going back to some favorites. My only comment is we tend to up the flavoring with the herbs in the recipes. Otherwise, I love the book, the information provided, suggestions given, etc. I HIGHLY recommend this cookbook to anyone; but, specifically, to anyone who has an Autoimmune condition and needs help with food.

A practical, easy to follow holy grail of healing goodness

The Healing Kitchen just became an indispensable part of our kitchen last night. From the delicious recipes to the batch meal plans (Which include videos on HOW to do batch cooking) this is an insightful and fantastic addition to your cooking library. There is a lot of value on AIP diets, the real benefits of why you should be on an AIP diet and how to properly reintegrate foods that were eliminated while on the AIP diet. The layout is simple and easy to navigate, and I found that my wife and I sat down and started planning our spring plantings around some of the main items that can be grown easily. Thank you both for writing such a fantastic guide to heal ourselves with!

I am in love with this cookbook

I am in love with this cookbook! I am a week and a half into my healing diet and this book has been a godsend. I have Hashimoto's disease and suffer from major stomach bloating (among many many other things). I can already feel the difference in my stomach and overall health. The recipes are extremely easy and very delicious. My boyfriend has loved all the recipes as well, thank god because that was one of my big concerns. I did not want to have to cook 2 dinners every night! I highly recommend this book, there is so much good information as well as wonderful recipes. -Lauren (Beverly B's daughter ;)

Excellent addition to my AIP/Paleo library

The Healing Kitchen by Alaena Haber and Sarah Ballantyne exceeded my expectations. Do not let the simplicity of the recipes fool you because the food is very tasty. So far I have tried several recipes from each section of the book, and I have to say that they all made it to my family's list of favorites. For those of you on AIP, this is a must have book. You can create a feast for your friends and family and stay on the protocol. The ingredients are easy to find, and there is no special equipment needed. I am a busy mom of two and recipes in this book definitely fit my hectic lifestyle. The food prepared is healthy and delicious.

Great AIP Cookbook

The recipes are so simple, quick and delicious. I highly recommend this book to anyone on the aip diet.

I would have loved to review the book if I knew how to ...

I would have loved to review the book if I knew how to do it! Now, a bit later, I do! Totally worth the price I paid. I have been waiting for this and have already made a couple of recipes from it my family enjoys. And with me being a nursing mom with Hashimoto's disease, nutrient dense foods for healing and helping me provide good nutrition for my baby is wonderful!! I love the fact that the authors are, for me, people I can relate to. I'm glad they've shared their stories and what has helped them to help me begin my own path of healing.

Incredible healing resource for anyone with autoimmune disease!

This is an excellent accompaniment to The Paleo Approach! The beginning of the book lays out the autoimmune protocol in a new and fun way. If you're not into the nitty gritty of the science and want fun infographics and drawings to teach you, this is the way to go! The only reason why I'm not giving five stars is because I'm not the biggest fan of the recipe selection. The recipes are incredible, don't get me wrong, but not many are dishes I like. As far as recipes Mickey Trescott's book, The Auto-Immune Paleo Cookbook, is still my go to.

This cookbook is chock full of easy, delicious recipes that the whole family can enjoy

This book is an answer to prayer! Following the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol diet) can be very challenging due to the food restrictions. This cookbook is chock full of easy, delicious recipes that the whole family can enjoy. My husband and children don't even know the meals are "different". I have made the pork carnitas probably weekly since buying this. Other favorites in regular rotation are the plantain wraps (THANK YOU! I have missed wraps and these are fantastic!) Pumpkin chili, salmon breakfast hash, etc. If you are struggling with food choices and creativity and you are following AIP or other paleo based diet, you will not be disappointed with this purchase. Great stuff!

Excellent selection of recipes

Excellent book with not only recipes but good explanations on why everything is so important. There are many many excellent recipes in this book! So many I hadn't thought of before. So many you can tweak if you want to, but the ones I've made so far are excellent. AIP isn't easy and can get mundane so having a good selections of recipes at my fingertips is a good thing. Most recipes are easy and don't require extravagant ingredients (although I likely already have most extravagant ingredients anyway because of other complex recipes I've found online). Looking forward to making many more recipes from this book. A+

Perfect for those suffering an Auto-Immune disorder

This book was recommended to me by my primary care physician. When you are diagnosed with an Auto-Immune disorder, life as you know it is completely flipped--you are now restricted to a specific diet and lifestyle. This book has really helped with my 'new' lifestyle--with easy recipes, reasons, and stories to help you get through your journey. My blood tests came out better than before, I no longer suffer from swelling or reactions. On the plus side of keeping my disorder in check, the recipes in this book have helped me lose 60lbs.

Every Single Page is worth reading. Every Single Recipe is worth making...

My 7yr old sat down with this book and flagged 48 recipes that WE need to make! 48! As a family who has multiple autoimmune diseases and manage our symptoms using food The Healing Kitchen is a phenomenal resource to have on hand. This is a book that I am gifting to family, as I know these recipes are not too complex and will enable them to feel confident in feeding our family, and that they will enjoy cooking them, not to mention the education that is also offered which will reinforce to others why this way of living/eating makes total sense to those with inflammation, chronic disease and/or Autoimmune Disease! Home Run ladies!

This gave us hope for not boring food

After we started doing the AIP diet I was worried that our food would be bland and less exciting. This book has helped us see when can have amazing food that we didn't think was possible. It also helped us realize what the basics for our kitchen needed to be. Very helpful.

This Cookbook is a KEEPER

My purchase was part of the pre-release and I've already used 2 recipes and loved them both! The real test is my spouse - if he likes them, the cookbook is a keeper. This one is a keeper. Recipes have easy to find ingredients (most of which I already had). I tried the Sweet & Savory Shepherd's Pie, which would also make a great AIP breakfast the next morning. I also made the Pesto Chicken Pizza, which was also really good. Haven't had a pizza in years, so it was fun to make this one. FINALLY, money well spent on a cookbook!

Yum

Love how organized it is! And love most of the recipes! I’m AIP so I needed some not insanely hard recipes for me with little energy & 4 other people in my house to cook regular meals for.

A MUST

For the shopping lists and meal plans ALONE!!! This book makes eating better as easy as you can possibly find and it all tastes amazing!!

Perfect!

I bought this book 2 years ago when I first started the AIP diet. At the time I was feeling stuck in a restrictive diet and these recipes made me so happy to have comfort food I didn't expect to taste again. I have since expanded my diet pretty significantly and I continue to reach for this cookbook every week. I have made nearly all of the recipes and not a single one has disappointed. My Gluten eating family has loved everything I have made to share as well!

Great Cook Book for Food Allergies/Sensivities

Every recipe I have made from this book has been delicious. They are not too complicated and few recipes have been on weekly rotation in our home for the past few weeks. I have a variety of food sensitivities and this cookbook made following my "do not eat foods" very easy.

Great reading

This book not only has so many great recipes but also gives some very good nutritional information. I ordered this at my sisters suggestion and I am so glad I did. Highly recommended.

Slow shipping/good product

I'm giving this a 4 because it was so slow in coming nearly to the end of specified time and I was watching the mail for it and I really needed it. I am doing the AIP diet and only a part of the recipes will fit my diet. The book is really very good over all. Had it come sooner I would have given it a 5.

This a great cookbook to have in your collection

This a great cookbook to have in your collection, especially if you have someone in your family who suffers from allergies or is following the aip protocol. Even my kiddos have enjoyed recipes I have prepared from this cookbook....BIG win. So far the Monkey Bars, turkey jerky and mojo chicken are the top favorites. My husband especially likes the garlic herb rub. We use it on salmon then pan-sear it, but looking forward to trying it out on steaks on the grill when it warms up. In the first week, I tried 6 recipes and they were all winners.

So in love!... for about 5 hours and am already so in love with it

I have only had this book for about 5 hours and am already so in love with it! I made the mac & cheese tonight and my whole family loves it! Thankfully I made a double batch other wise there wouldn't have been enough for everyone to have seconds. I spent at least an hour just looking through all the amazing recipes and dreaming about the yumminess I am going to be making thanks to this great book. It was such a great feeling to know I can cook all of these recipes without trying to adapt them into an AIP diet.

If you’re a newbie to healthy eating, this book is for you

Perfect for newbies! It gives the whys and the how’s to healthy eating.

I'm so excited to get cooking!

A great recipe book! This book has amazing easy to follow recipes. The steps are lined out, the pictures are breath taking. I am so excited to get in the kitchen and start cooking! New AIP recipes to help heal my body, I love the step by step instructions. The meal plans take this book over the top! The pictures are making my mouth water! I can not wait to make the comforting breakfast casserole and the creamy caesar beef skillet. I'd write more, but I have to go shopping for ingredients! Thank you for such a great book!

Glad I made this purchase

I was hesitant to buy another cookbook filled with paleo recipes which only used beef and kale or were some combination of hideous flavors you can't bring yourself or anyone else to eat! I took a chance with this book and I am hapoy I did. These recipes are all doable after work, in a pinch, for a nice dinner for an outting potluck--I can make these work for all sorts of regular dishes which nowadays need to be more paleo for me. I love it.

An AIP dream come true!

OMG I just received this cookbook and I can tell you already that this is going to be a favorite! So much, easy to understand, info and graphics! As for the recipes.....so much to chose from...kitchen basics, great variety of breakfasts, soups & salads, main dishes, sides, snacks, drinks & treats, with a lot of easy to find ingredients and a beautiful picture of all of it!!! I can't wait to get cooking! This book is going to messy really quick! Thanks ladies for sharing yourselves & this wonderful book with us!

Delicious, wholesome foods!

The recipes in this book are delicious! They are aligned to AIP diet plan, and have actually helped me to lose a reasonable amount of weight along with alleviating some other issues I was having with autoimmune disorders.

Great cookbook with lots of simple to make recipes that will satisy picky non-AIP people as well.

I love this cookbook! Being on an AIP diet can be very frustrating, especially if you're the only one in the house on the diet. This cookbook has so many tasty recipes that my entire family is enjoying. Having it has really helped take some of the stress out of cooking for everyone by offering variety that no one can really tell is AIP.

Large, diverse collection of recipes

Recipes are very tasty and easy to make. There is so much additional info in the book about auto immune disesase as well as just the recipes. A lot of the recipes call for plantain, which I can't find around here, but I have had luck replacing them with very green bananas. Might not be quite the same taste, but since I have never had plantains I don't know the difference and the recipes do taste good.

AIP at its best!

These ladies are a Godsend! I need all the help I can get from those who know AIP first hand. This book provides practical advice and recipes to do just that! Highly recommend!!

Yummy and very healthy!

I really like a lot of these recipes! It was nice to find so many yummy choices that I could eat. A lot of them are time consuming but they make big batches so I can freeze a lot for later. They freeze really well. This AIP diet really has helped me feel a lot healthier. It is worth it!

Love. This

I. Love. This. Cookbook!!! I am excited about cooking again! I love to make good food, but when I went on the AIP paleo diet for Hashimoto's I thought I was doomed to eat 'special' food for the duration of the diet. Special. :P These recipes are awesome! I will not feel deprived being on a strict diet with these recipes on hand. I can't say enough good about this book. If you're on AIP and love great food buy this book. You won't regret it.

A cookbook AND a novel

Favorite cookbook/novel! It’s both! Love it!

Paleo based!

Didn’t realize that it was Paleo based as I’m supposed to cut out meat. Recipes do look good.

I really wanted to love this cool book

I really wanted to love this cool book! I am really disappointed that an AIP book co-authored by Sarah Ballantyne would recommend using a microwave in certain recipes. After all the AIP lifestyle is about reducing inflammation and triggers and ruining nutrient dense food with a microwave seems to contradict the whole premise of the AIP lifestyle. The science is Secondly, these recipes rare bland. Every single one of the 15 I've tried needs more salt and seasonings. It is a beneficial book to use as a GUIDE and for ideas, but following the recipe's 100% has always yielded disappointing results for me.

While there are many great recipes a lot if them were time consuming

While there are many great recipes a lot if them were time consuming. I sometimes did not have the energy or the money to go out and purchase so much for one recipe. It's nice to have in the kitchen for when company is coming or I have extra money. Just not practical for a single mom on a budget.

I cannot wait to start healing!

I have been dealing with health issues for, what feels like, most of my life. Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia but no clear instructions to help me manage it. I recently found the Paleo Mom website and, ultimately, this wonderful cookbook. I have already read through it and I am very anxious to try some of these delicious sounding recipes. I am really looking forward to seeing and feeling the health benefits of this new lifestyle. Thank you for making this amazing reference available.

Brilliant AIP recipes - well worth the buy. I've made many of the recipes and they are all delish

If you need a cookbook for aip - auto immune protocol then this is the book! Their recipes are excellent, as a family we have tried the New England clam chowder, the meatloaf, the African spicy kale, carrot no-porridge and they have been such hits. Most if not all of the recipes have pictures. They are stupidly easy to follow and even has a weekly suggested menu to help you get your head around the aip!

This book is SO good! Very well thought out and I LOVE the ...

This book is SO good! Very well thought out and I LOVE the multiple indexes/appendix (there's a list of 5 or less ingredients, 20 minutes or less, no cook, leftovers, one pot, a picture index, and the standard index.) there are sample weekly menus and shopping lists. Seriously, such a good book! If you are looking for healing through food through paleo/AIP, I would HIGHLY recommend this book!

I LOVE this book

I bought this book to support Sarah Ballantyne, because I'm always on her blog getting recipes. I LOVE this book. The recipes are fabulous. I like it so much, I bought one for my daughter. If you have an auto-immune disease, and want to eat healthier, this is the book to get. Everything I've made from this cookbook tastes fantastic. Thank you for making a cookbook that marries Paleo and auto-immune restrictions!

The best!!

Love Love Love this cookbook. It has wonderful information in the beginning as a foundation but the rest is all recipes that I have made over half of so far and love all of them.

Tasting good feeling good

It has a lot of good information. I have Hashimotos and still struggle with trying to figure out some of my food triggers. I have done the elimination diet and am close to figuring out what they are. I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes. I like to take desert to get togethers its hard watching everyone eat cakes and cookies and not be able to have. I'm feeling better still have bad days.

development and publishing of another tool to help us on our journey to good health. We received it earlier than we thought

My husband and I are tearing through your book now. Thank you so much for all the hard work involved in the research, development and publishing of another tool to help us on our journey to good health. We received it earlier than we thought. Anyone with an autoimmune disease should start their healing process with the help of The Paleo Approach, The Paleo Approach Cookbook, and The Healing Kitchen. Again, thank you to the authors of The Healing Kitchen.

Awesome cookbook

The cookbook is amazing. I borrowed it from the library initially and knew I needed a copy of my own. Love the pictures and recipes. Very tasty, quick and healthy. Not an overwhelming amount of ingredients. The pumpkin chili and mango guacamole are so far our favorites. Highly recommend this cookbook if you like paleo or just cooking in general. Our family of 4 has loved all the recipes I've made from it so far.

Simple and delicious!

The was hesitant to purchase yet another cookbook. But my eczema has been flaring and I was in a cooking rut. I'm so happy I purchased this book! It is beautifully laid out, and has excellent meal plans for those who need quick easy and fast meals. I hate getting a cookbook with super long lists of ingredients- this has a ton of with 5 ingredients or less. I love it.

The Healing Kitchen

I love this book! I'm familiar with the Paleo way of life, but this book goes beyond the "eat this, not that" and talks about healing your body with food and why eating Paleo can benefit your life. The recipes are delish and easy to make, with easy to find ingredients. There are meal plans for all and even desserts. I look forward to using this book for years and helping my body heal and become its healthiest self.

Be careful of the extremely high-fat recipes

This book should have come with a warning. I have Hashimoto's and wanted to try just making these recipes. While the diet and recipes in this book may help autoimmune issues, the recipes are so high in fat it is not possible to eat this and not develop new health problems. Almost everything has bacon or some other high fat ingredient, and many of the recipies are strange. I made the bacon-salmon stew and ate that for a few days after which I developed gallbladder/pancreas issues and have been trying to recover for over a month now....It depends on the body of course, but that much fat is just not healthy for most people, I wish it was more of a balanced diet with emphasis on veggies instead of unhealthy fats.

The BEST AIP Cookbook!!!

This cookbook is literally saving my life and my time!! AIP recipes are not always that tasty, quick, or easy to make, but every single thing I've made in this book (I've made a lot) have been so good! Many of them freeze and reheat well, which is a huge bonus with this diet. I hate these ladies went through what they did, but I'm thankful they are able to share their knowledge and good recipes!

Amazing!!! This is my food Bible since starting the AIP diet and everything has been delicious!

The recipes are easy, flavorful, and this book has saved my sanity since starting the Autoimmune Protocol. Instead of worrying what I “can’t” eat I have a book full of delicious, easy, and HEALTHY food I can eat.

It has pretty pictures...

Book received quickly and it is well made. However the content of the book was not what I was hoping for. Was seeking easy and fast recipes. Especially as I will likely be the only one eating them. I have not used this book once for cooking.

The recipes are awesome and doable

Starting on an autoimmune paleo protocol can be intimidating. This book helps make that less complicated, especially helpful when disease is making it tough to function. The recipes are awesome and doable! The meal plans and shopping lists are extremely helpful. Beautiful book that is so much more than a cookbook. i bought several aip cookbooks - this is my go to.

Best Cookbook Ever!

Ya know how it's so easy to be disappointed when people get your expectations way high about something and then it doesn't measure up? Well that totally didn't happen with this cookbook. I've been eating AIP diet for the last 9 months and should have bought this cookbook earlier. Best purchase I've made in a super long time. I highly recommend to those wanting to eat a clean diet - easy recipes with simple ingredients!

I have every big paleo cookbook out there so I see a lot of repetition but I loved the soup section of this book

I am a huge fan of Sarah Ballantyne so I was planning to buy the book as soon as I heard about it. I have every big paleo cookbook out there so I see a lot of repetition but I loved the soup section of this book! The photos were beautiful and because it is Sarah, there is a ton of information on the science of health and nutrition. It is a great addition to my collection.

5 stars for the book 0 for shipping

I love this cookbook. I like that it has more recipes than so much information in the front that's it's not just recipes anymore. I would advise to order by itself. I ordered it with other items and since it's a softcover, the shipping department rolled it to get it in the box. 5 stars for the book. 0 for shipping

10-STARS

Excellent Book With Great Recipes. Very EASY TO FOLLOW. EVEN FOR A NOVICE COOKER.

this was an amazing recipe book to add to my collection

Wow I am so impressed. Having some experience with AIP already, this was an amazing recipe book to add to my collection. Gorgeous pictures and tons of recipes. Many AIP approved comfort foods that make you feel semi-normal again and able to enjoy a treat or carb. The recipes contain a lot of plantains and sweet potatoes, which I am obsessed with, but those with sensitivities to these foods may not appreciate this book as much as I do.

... book because I have several allergies and have heard amazing things about the autoimmune protocol diet

I recently ordered this book because I have several allergies and have heard amazing things about the autoimmune protocol diet. The recipes in this book certainly have not disappointed so far. Not only are they easy to make, but they are also filling and delicious. Plus, there is a lot of good information in this cookbook as well. I can't wait to keep trying new recipes from this book and definitely recommend it to others!

The recipes seem very easy and straight forward

I just got this today but I really appreciated how thoughtful and simple everything in this book is. There is a lot of information about what nutrients you get out of certain foods, WHY you should and shouldn't eat certain things and everything in between. The recipes seem very easy and straight forward. I can't wait to try some of them!

Excellent cookbook! One of my favorites are the plantain ...

Excellent cookbook! One of my favorites are the plantain wraps (seriously delicious and helpful in making wraps/sandwiches)...who knew a green plantain could be so delicious? Another family favorite is the pizza (crust) recipes...YUM. My daughter says it is better than regular pizza! Reader note: this is an AIP Paleo book (autoimmune)...SO GLAD I stumbled upon it!

Cookbook was a lifesaver! !

I had to go on the autoimmune elimination diet and this cookbook was a lifesaver! It's overwhelming to cut out so many foods and know what to eat. The recipes in here are good and made things so much easier to have recipes to follow. It also has a variety of meal plans for a week's worth of meals to make cooking even easier.

GREAT TOOL FOR HEALTHY & BALANCED LIVING.

Wonderful, informative and encouraging. The amount of helpful tools such as; meal plans, recipes, new ideas and just really good balanced food ideas that give choices and not deprivation or extreme limitations. Gave it as a gift to daughter battling breast cancer to use in her healthy living arsenal she was ENLIGHTENED. Kudos and thank you to the arthurs: Haber and. Ballantyne.😊

It's INCREDIBLE, AWESOME, DELICIOUS

The most organized and interesting cookbook ever. The recipes are easy to follow and the photographs delicious. I LOVE the fact that some recipes give instructions for both a slow cooker and an Instant-Pot. The meal suggestions are wonderful. I feel this is the one and only cookbook I actually need for Paleo cooking. Thank you to the authors.

THE best autoimmune paleo book EVER

I don't buy many cookbooks, since I can get a lot of recipes for free online. However, I saw this one getting rave reviews in one of my groups, so I bought it. THE best autoimmune paleo book EVER. It not only has amazing recipes but walks you through what to eat, stocking your cabinets and fridge, food swaps and substitutions, and has whole meal plans and quick meals and snacks. I'm loving it!

Great food - easy and quick recipes

I purchased this cookbook along with the Paleo Approach Cookbook and was overwhelmingly amazed at how incredibly easy and delicious each and every recipe is. You won’t miss the bad inflammatory foods. Ever!

I really like the introduction to this book

I really like the introduction to this book. As a health care provider I am always looking for nuggets to suggest to my patients. This comes in at the top of my list when people ask for a cook book. It is very educational and accurate. I have tried a few of the recipes and I will say they are absolutely delicious and somewhat easy to make.

Worth the money already! Delicious!

I just bought this after Christmas and spent my day "batch cooking" for the week and beyond. So far, I've made: garlic and herb breakfast sausage, oven baked pancakes, cinnamon and raisin porridge, Caesar dressing for salad, garlic sauce (for root veggies later this week), plantain fries, mojo chicken, classic roast chicken, and using the chicken bones for bone broth. Everything has been delicious! Even my "meat and potatoes" husband and 2 teen sons liked everything:)

Healthy Cooking for Us!

I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! this book! Easy, delicious, healthy recipes for my husband and I. The kids are gone, our schedules are still so busy trying to run our businesses. It's so nice to be able to come home and cook healthy, tasty meals in a manageable time frame. I recommend this book to my friends and family all of the time. You won't regret getting to know these gals!

Heal Yo'self!

I'm a firm believer in holistic healing, when possible. I have seen the results in my own body with diet changes. I bought this boom to take my healing a step further and this book is a fantastic aid for just that. It starts with a few chapters of simple introduction behind the science of AIP and is followed by a plethora of amazing recipes, meal plans, and batch cook plans. Love it!

Simple and good

A really great book. I also avoid avocado, banana, and coconut on top of the AIP food list and I found this book still had recipes I could use. Recipes are simple which is AWESOME. There is also a TON of helpful info in this book.

Thank you for the Healing Kitchen!

I made the oven baked pancakes to accompany dinner, the same day I received my copy. They were super easy to make and worked wonderfully as sausage sandwich buns (we love breakfast for dinner). I appreciate that the recipes in this book appear accessible, like "every-day" cooking. I think that these will be meals that the whole family can enjoy, all while keeping my symptoms at bay. Thank you!

Love this book!

I absolutely love this book. I have cooked out of it exclusively for the last couple months and the recipes are AMAZING. The instructions are easy to understand, and the pictures are lovely. Highly recommend to anyone looking to heal their gut and improve their health.

Must Buy This!

I bought this cookbook on a whim and has easily become one of my go to cookbooks! The recipes are easy to prepare and more importantly taste fantastic! I have already recommended this cookbook to friends and family. For anyone who is knew to Paleo/AIP this is a must buy and to those veterans out there this still won't disappoint!

Great Paleo Recipes!

I recently fully committed to Paleo and bought a couple of cookbooks on Amazon. This one was BY FAR the best! Beautiful color photos next to the recipes, easy quick meals, healthy Paleo options for cooking- all you would want in a healthy cookbook. I would recommend it to anyone looking for heir first Paleo cookbook!!

I found starting out the "Paleo for Beginners" was the best to start with

I haven't really gotten into this book, I found starting out the "Paleo for Beginners" was the best to start with. This book has a lot of great recipes and I will love trying them out!

Oh absolutely yes!

I purchased this book because so many have raved about it. I was needing an Autoimmune Protocol recipe book, and decided to take the plunge. It's my favorite book now. I purchased it on Kindle, so I could take the recipes with me to the store each time. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase again, or for a friend.

The amount of science and explanation is perfect. Not too overwhelming

This has way more basic recipes than Ballantyne's first cookbook. It's made so you can get to what you want fast in many different ways. The amount of science and explanation is perfect. Not too overwhelming. Very good for a visual person.

You will not be disappointed.

I was already a big fan of Sarah Ballantyne, and knew I would not be disappointed by this book. However, having tried many gluten and grain free recipes for pizza crust by others, I wasn't expecting a lot. I was so surprised to find her recipe just perfect. It is also quick and easy. Finally!! Now, I will probably try every single recipe in this beautiful book.

Beast and easiest receipes

The problem with most cookbooks is the prep and meals are complicated. Literally obsessed with this book and I find myself using it a couple times a week. The salmon hash is the BEST.

Buy it!! Don't delay!

Hands down the best cookbook we have ever purchased!!!! Delicious and easy recipes. Well organized book cover to cover. There isn't one recipe we have tried we didn't like. The tips she gives are invaluable whether it's about how to freeze or what to pair with other recipes. She give the services, prep time, etc. our favorites from this book are too many to list!

Easy peasy recipes.

Cooking for myself AIP and making food for my kids too isn’t easy. This cookbook allows me to feed everyone the same food with little grunting from the peanut gallery. So far we’ve liked everything from it.

We have pages tabbed for the ones we LOVE, didn't like

We use this cookbook EVERY single day. We have pages tabbed for the ones we LOVE, didn't like, or want to try. We really appreciate all of the useful information in the front of the book as well as all of the recipes.

Delicious Recipes you can use again and again

Paleo is not a diet for everyone but it is a great diet for those that have digestion issues like me . What I love about this book is that the recipes are SO flavorful and delicious. Right now my current favorite is the recipe of sweet patatoes and smoked salmon with a dill-butter-like mix. All of this stuff is SOOOOO good .

For your health and taste buds. Great!

I was totally looking forward to this book and it just arrived last week! Yay! Totally worth it. Lots of yummy recipes to try. I'm bummed I'll beout of town for the book signing in Las Vegas. AIP is just fantasitc. It makes sense and it's not as hard as you think. Thanks again for bringing us this golden resource!

The Healing Kitchen has so many amazing recipes for people following an AIP lifestyle

The Healing Kitchen has so many amazing recipes for people following an AIP lifestyle. In addition to the recipes, you get so much information regarding paleo and autoimmune paleo. This cookbook is exactly that I have been waiting for. All of the recipes are worth trying. I just received it and have already made a few of the recipes and I have loved them all so far!

Grab this book for some quick Paleo favorites

I had heard so many good things about this cookbook, I had to buy it. And I am glad that I did. I would suggest trying the Rosemary & Prosciutto Stromboli recipe with some dipping sauce. Wow, it knock your socks off it is so good. The recipes are easy and love the times for both prep and cooking in this book.

Just ok - good info for AIP, not super easy recipes

Hard to search for recipes on kindle. Recipes rely a lot on plantain which can be hard to find so that was frustrating. If you have no problem finding certain ingredients (or mind paying extra) the recipes are good.

Good book. Trying out recipes now

Good book. Trying out recipes now. Some good, some did not work for me. They use a lot of spices. I kind of thing less is a lot of times better. It is a great way to learn how to eat and what kinds of foods to avoid.

One of my absolute favorite cookbooks. I have a number of recipes from ...

One of my absolute favorite cookbooks. I have a number of recipes from here that are regular "go-tos" for me, like the carnitas, fig and prosciutto pizza, tangy Carolina BBQ sauce, Stromboli, and teriyaki chicken. These recipes are easy and delicious and help me not feel so deprived and constricted by my AIP diet.

Great AIP cookbook!

Excellent book for AIPers. I love the recipies and and the flavor of the dishes. If you have an issue with coconut milk, I would possibly wait on purchasing this book. However, the cookbook is excellent!

The price is worth it for the garlic bacon biscuit recipe alone

This is so much more than a cookbook! It has absolutely everything you need to get started on AIP. I have already done one whole day of batch cooking. The dishes I made are the most tasty I have had in three months since I have been on AIP. It's very clear these lovely ladies know exactly what they are doing. Bravo on a gorgeous, life changing book.

Given this as a gift a few times

Great recipes for healthy living, helpful information on meal prep, and good ways to think about clean eating

Excellent purchase

I really like this book! The recipes are simple and delicious. I love green plantains and there are plenty of recipes that include them. I also have a fish allergy and found many of the fish recipes are an easy swap with chicken. Also love the pictured index. I am very happy with this purchase and would absolutely buy it again!

Love this book!

Love this book! Very informative and the recipes look yummy. Can't wait to try them today. I have 2 autoimmune diseases, RA & Hep C (arrested), and know the benefit of living a clean life. Now that I'm 65 I've been looking for something more I could do to counter the effects of getting older with RANCHO & this is it. Thanks

Best Paleo or AIP Cookbook Out There!!!!

So far, I've cooked over ten recipes. We've loved every single one of them. As a matter of fact, my 9 & 10 year old daughters have raved over every dish. This isn't typical of them at all. Truly every one has great pics and tastes even better than it looks!!

Favorite AIP cookbook

This is my favorite AIP cookbook so far and I have purchased quite a few of them. I love that the recipes aren't super complicated. My favorite recipes so far have been the spaghetti with meat sauce (I use spaghetti squash for ours), and the American breakfast sausage. The pumpkin chili was also delicious.

Thriving!

This cookbook has inspired me in a way that no other has to prepare and eat nourishing and tasty meals to heal the immune system. The way it is organized makes it easy to jump right in and get started. I especially liked the sections on batch cooking, breakfast ideas, and snacks.

Great for establishing a new AIP lifestyle!

This is my favorite AIP cookbook to use right now, not just for recipes but also substitutions, replacements, meal planning, and lifestyle tips. The recipes are delicious!

Can't Wait To Make Everything!!

I just got this book yesterday and I'm in love!! I was turning the pages and was so excited that everything looked amazing! Most cookbooks I have looked through only have a few recipes that I really want to try. This one had me drooling! Thank you to Alaena and Sarah! Your hard work gave me some hope.

An incredibly informative and user-friendly cookbook that focuses on healing!

I received my copy of the healing kitchen last night and I am so excited! I love how things are budget friendly, categorized by quick meals or batch cooking. I love the feature of the yes and no foods and how it shows waiting the good against the bad, it's a great visual way to understand why foods are healthy or not.

4 stars until i test out more recipes

4 stars until i test out more recipes. So far I really like it. The meal plans are appealing since there are several and broken into categories such as prep time, cooking again, fewer ingredients, etc.

Amazing cookbook! AIP is an amazing program

Great cookbook! If you have an autoimmune disease, then start with The Paleo Mom to understand the AIP program then come here to learn to cook AIP. Sarah is the original and you can't go wrong with this. I have rheumatoid arthritis and AIP has changed my life.

Super tasty, easy-to-prepare, and kid-friendly (bonus!) recipes

Every recipe I have tried since I got my hands on it have been OUTSTANDING! This has been a perfect cookbook to use for my whole family...the recipes are very kid-friendly too! I am so impressed with this cookbook! It has made going back to AIP an easy transition for me. Thank you, thank you!!

The absolute best cookbook for the AutoImmune Protocol diet

The absolute best cookbook for the AutoImmune Protocol diet. I use this cookbook daily, and often make multiple recipes in one meal. They are all very easy to follow, use common ingredients and taste great!! I highly recommend this, especially for those who are overwhelmed with starting out on the AIP diet.

Amazing

Wow is all I can say. Only tried Greek dressing so far, but amazing flavors. I've never been a very creative cook and with following aip has been more difficult. With this cookbook I've fallen in love with salads again with this amazing and easy to make dressing. Can't wait to try the other recipes.

Awesome book

The Healing Kitchen

A fantastic book to begin your AIP journey with. Easy to follow recipes, simple to understand explanations about the why and how to make this your new eating lifestyle. The tone of the book is friendly and informative. If you're interested in a more healthy life, this book can help you get there.

Excellent AIP cookbook

Excellent AIP cookbook, I'm SO glad I bought this. These recipes are so amazing, each one I've made has been a hit, and they are staples for my weekly batch cooking. Worth every penny!

Bringing the healing with me on our trip!!

SUPER excited!! Just bought the kindle version, downloaded it to our iPad and am bringing it on our trip for the holidays! NOW I feel ok about being away from home for 9 days! I feel like I can eat as I want to, not have to eat SAD with everyone else!!

Wanted to love this book.

I've tried several recipes and they aren't as tasty as they look. Also, as a cook, the recipes aren't realistic. For example, marinating chicken strips, then rolling them in loose coconut and expecting a crust that adheres is unrealistic. In her picture, they did. I was left with tart chicken strips and a pile of toasted or burnt coconut. I modified the recipe and sautéed the chicken, then added the coconut until lightly browned. Didn't want to waste my organic chicken and coconut. So, I gave an extra star for the comforting information and meal suggestions at the beginning. Just make sure you use your own recipes.

I love this book so much

I love this book so much, it has so many great recipes and they are easy to make. It also has loads of nutrition information and the ins and outs of eating AIP. I have learned so much from this book and love trying all the new recipes out.

love this book

great food -- I make the recipes exactly as written -- my husband likes it too -- tons of good info as well

I Love This Cookbook

Love this cookbook. They take so much work out of following the AIP. The recipes are easy to follow. The first time I make a dish, It takes me more time than they say it does. But, after making it a few times, I get faster. I highly recommend it.

a must have excellent aip cookbook!

i had this checked out from the library and had to buy my own copy before the time was even up!!! this is one of the best aip cookbooks hands down! it has the meal plan to make it easy or you can just wing it.plain awesomsauce!!!

I am very pleased with this book. There are some excellent recipes. (and some I didn't like at all - but that is OK)

I'm not a fan of cookbooks because I feel like I can find recipes online

Fantastic!!

I couldn't wait for this book!! When I got home from work and saw it on my table , it was all I could do to put my things down and tear into it! I was even paying attention to my hubs talking to me about dinner. Fantastic book, super excited!!

Life changing book

Absolutely love this book. I've never been comfortable in the kitchen before, until now. I went on AIP to help with my thyroid and this book is invaluable. Every recipe is delicious and easy. I feel like I've become a different person, finding joy by cooking clean meals.

Use black font next time please!!!

I would have given it five stars but the text color is such a light grey, I can barely see it. The recipes though are great and simple!

Seems like a winner to me!

I bought this because it came highly recommended from fellow AIPers (Autoimmune Protocol). Still at the beginning, but so far so good!

Excellent

All I can say is I highly recommend it for those wanting to address autoimmune disorders. Even the deserts are fruits and veggies. Ingredients are nutrient packed. These recipes teach a new way of thinking about health. Most of the things I have made have been delicious.

The meat is not so great for your health as they say

The book is well done, however all the meat actually created more inflammation in my body and led to more health problems. I am on a vegan diet now and the inflammation is going way down. I still plan to use the no meat recipes from this book.

AIP Culinary Yumminess

Can not believe how many recipes from both this book & both of their website are just DELISH! I love to cook but when I am so tired I don't want it to be so technical....this book is awesome!! Thank you!!!

Great book!

I just received the book, and have not prepared anything yet. Looking through it, I love the way that everything is simply stated, and well organized. The options of meal plans to fit my lifestyle will be very helpful. I look forward to using this book regularly.

This is the BEST paleo recipe book Ive used so far

This is the BEST paleo recipe book Ive used so far. Delicious recipes and very practical meal suggestions. It seems to incorporate more of the usual foods that I have purchased. Sarah Ballantyne's collaboration is obvious.

Inspired me at 67! Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks😊

The Healing Kitchen has inspired me to look further into food as medicine. Learning more about AIP and foods that truly support the body and cells with micronutrients . Wow, a chance to learn more at the age of 67. Thank you! Margo
