Peril has been loyal to Queen Scarlet, who used her fatal firescales to kill countless dragons in the SkyWing arena. Now, Peril is loyal to Clay, the only dragonet who has ever been her friend. So when Scarlet threatens Jade Mountain Academy, Peril sets off to find her former queen, stop her, and save the day, no matter what it takes.
There's just one problem: a strangely persistent SeaWing, Turtle, insists on coming along, too. Turtle is worried about his friends, who left to search for Scarlet and haven't returned. Peril is worried that she might accidentally burn Turtle -- or burn him on purpose, for being so annoying -- and frustrated that she keeps saying and doing the wrong things. She can't escape her firescales, and she can't escape her reputation as the deadliest dragon in Pyrrhia.
So when she's offered a chance to trade everything for a second chance, Peril has to decide who she's really loyal to . . . and whether her own scales might actually be worth saving."

Peril's Character Lit Up This Book!
Thoughts: I am literally blown away by this book. Sutherland has really outdone herself - in fact, I feel like her books only continue to improve. That's not to say that I didn't have a few issues with this book - but those were very minimal and hardly took away from the story. The plot was the only issue I had, actually. It felt like Sutherland wrote this whole book, and then decided that the ending wasn't memorable enough so she added in half of the next book to leave us on a cliffhanger (it worked). This, I found, was very frustrating, despite the added tension and excitement. Other than that, this book was amazing! I loved every one of the characters and how they've evolved over this series, although I would've liked to see some more of Winter, Kinkajou, and Qibli, some of my favorite characters. Peril's character was spot-on - the entire time, you could really feel her emotions. Although I originally wasn't too excited about the prospect of a book dedicated to Peril, I grew to love her character and was rooting for her by the end of the book. I loved the twist, too, and how it tied in with the brilliant prologue. The writing didn't stray far from its normal humor, suspense, and adventure - honestly, I think that the Wings of Fire series is the best series for middle grade readers. And although this book took a bit of a dark turn at the end, I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.
The New Peril
Ever since Clay met Peril in the first book, she became my favorite character in the entire series (until I read Darkstalker, then it was Whiteout) and I wanted to know more about her. Although I definitely remember Tui saying that she wouldn't make a book on Peril, I love the fact that she did. I had always wanted to get inside Peril's head because she is just so... her. But now you can and you can discover the beauty of her character and find out what makes her clock tick. *Cough* *Cough* Clay! *Cough* And you get to see the world through the eyes of Queen Scarlet's Notorious Death Monster. As plot goes, it was good although there was a big cliffhanger that I won't spoil but will call Tui out for doing that. It is almost worse than the cliffhanger at the end of The Mark Of Athena if any of you have read that. But other than a cliche cliffhanger, the plot is very unique and has that special Tui touch that I don't think anyone else has. All in all, it was a great book and I loved every page of it.
Perfect book for pre-teen boys that don't like to read!
My son is 12 and LOVES this series. It's the only series that he will read without complaining. Every time a new book comes out, he begs me to buy it. I've read some excerpts out of a few books, and they seems to be appropriate and have some themes of honor, friendship, hard work, etc. All the boys in my son's class read them and love talking about it and sharing their books with one another. I surprised my son with this book, and he was so excited. He even read it in the car on the way to school. I recommend this to anyone with a pre-teen son that does not enjoy reading.
Books 8, 9, 10
Just received the amazon package with these books. The books arrived reasonably quickly and in good condition. But these books were manufactured poorly when compared to the previous books in the series. When the package arrived I couldn't figure out what was in the bag because the package was so light. But upon opening the bag, sure enough there were 3 books in the package. These new books are the same size as the previous books, but they weight much, much less than the previous books. The paper is very thin. I've seen paper towels with thicker paper than the paper used in these books. And when comparing the quality of the graphics, the quality of the graphics in these books has less contrast than the graphics in the previous books. Finally the irony. The new books are published in the USA and the older books show they were published in China. I would advise against fully opening these books near the middle pages because it seems these books will split on the binder and begin loosing pages.
Exciting, and a lesson, too!
I have loved this series so much, And I truly understand and agree with its high reviews and ratings. I see and agree the lesson that was taught here, to accept yourself, even with all your failings.. be yourself and be the best that you can be. Be loyal to the people that you love, but think for yourself and not let others control you. It is more important to be good and kind, than to be popular. Problems are there to teach you and make you strong. The easy way is often not the right way. Think, what would Clay do?? Darkstalker is next , I am looking so forward to learn his story!
Forgetful
So Moon gave a prophecy. Winter found the dragon they needed to make the good version become reality. Then promptly looses her. Then Moon forget about the prophecy. That is when bad gets worse. But Peril didn’t kill anyone at least not on purpose.
One of the Best WOF Books
Peril has been one of my favorite characters since she was introduced, and this has to be one of my favorite books from the series. She is such a relatable character in how we can come to depend on someone too much sometimes and lose our own opinions and thoughts. Her development in this area is shown remarkably well and one event that occurs, while setting up conflict, also shows that Peril has grown and changed a lot. I also love that she doesn’t reject the side of her that is obsessive and loving, but rather discovers a part of herself that she’d lost from years of manipulation. The book is consistent too with Peril’s personality of being brash and not so good socially which is an important aspect to me.
Really good, but not amazing like the others.
The Wings of fire is a really good series with an excellent story line, and all the books have been very interesting and fast paced but for some reason this book wasn't the best. It got slow at times and some parts where admittedly rather boring. The ending was good but sections of Escaping Peril where either too fast or too slow. I hope the next book can be better, because i am looking foward to reading it. The other books on the other hand are amazing, they are a great read.
Age appropriate stories but entertaining for parents too!
My son absolutely ADORES these books. Like this is the first chapter-book series he has really been into and we plan to read them all. I love that they come from a different perspective each time so they aren't boring. The stories are age appropriate but also entertaining enough to keep us both coming back for more. Thank you for writing a book that my son loves!

DAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH!
I won't spoil anything from the book, but three moons was this book AMAZING! I had my doubts that if Peril was the main character, the entire book would be filled with her rejecting any other people who offered her sympathy, despite how much she acts like it. To all people who have not read this yet, be prepared for a wild ride!
Awesome!
My just turned 10 year old loves this series! We will be getting the hard backs soon and giving the paperbacks to the local library. Def a series to keep.
IT HAS THE PICTURE OF SCARLET ON THE BACK, DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!
I think that that was the first book to do that? That it is a really great add-on to the cover! Also, this book is great, a really great book for a 13 year olds and down. I liked how it had the confused/fire filled mind of Peril that Moon had mentioned in her book, for example she always had second thoughts to every though and most of the time it was about Clay. I was also amused at how the book had answered a lot of unanswered Q's form the other books. And it also has a sad ting to it or at least I was sad for Peril during the whole book. All-in-all its a really great book!
Cameron Allen
Peril really has to make a lot of decisions in this book.Clay is the dragon who gave her a second chance, but Scarlet wants Peril to have no memory of Clay. Then Peril meets her dad,Chameleon, who works for Scarlet.Chameleon gives her a necklace that could make her shape-shift.In the end,the necklace turns out to be cursed so that Peril would forget Clay forever. So then Ruby challenges Scarlet for the throne and Ruby wins and becomes queen.I like the whole series, and I have read all the books up to this one and am going to read the next book ASAP.I hope Tui T.Sutherland keeps writing!
Motivating reading for young readers!
Excellent series! Holds my 8 yo daughter's attention & keeps her intrigued!! A valuable investment as a parent that struggles to keep your child motivated to read! She's in 3rd grade & reads @ 6th grade level. I highly recommend this series, especially if your child holds an interest in dragons!
Thanks E for turning me on to this fun series.
My third grade niece became excited about this series. I bought her a book or two and then decided I wanted to see what she was so excited about. I am having a lot of fun with this series. Sutherland's characters develop slowly throughout the books, at least from an adult perspective, but as the series has gone on I am enjoying it more and more. The books are definitely aimed toward the 3-5 grade level. Some tough subjects that are addressed, like death, war, poor parenting, etc. I would've LOVED this series in my youth, as my niece does, as an adult I am still getting a kick out of it. I can't wait to see what will happen in upcoming book 9. Sutherland also has an accompanying series about the "Winglets." Haven't started those yet, but will probably add them to my summer book list.
Another great WoF book!
This is a great book, I recommend it for anyone who has read the rest of the series. It was interesting to see the story from Peril's point of view, and to watch her mature as the story progressed. This was the first book with a skywing as the main character, and I enjoyed learning more about them, along with the jade winglet.
12-yr old read it in less than 24 hours.
My 12 year old read this book in less than 24 hours, and loved it. With a computer, a smartphone, and an xbox at his disposal, that says a lot about the author's ability to hold a child's attention. He summarized the book for me, and it does sound like an exciting story. I asked him if this was the best one yet (he's read them all), and he smiled and said, "Well, they're all pretty good". I might start reading them myself. :-)
My son typically does not like to read
My son typically does not like to read. He used to have to see a reading specialist at school a few years ago because he was a very poor reader. He has made great progress and when we find a book he enjoys, he will read a whole book in just a couple days. He LOVES this series and is constantly asking for the next book! Thank you for such a great series that is really helping my son learn to love to read!!!
This book was phenomenal!!! :D
I loved the action, mystery and sophisticated storyline. Tui T. Sutherland did an awesome job and it was a great addition to the Wings of Fire series. Once I bought it, I couldn't stop reading! I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out because the cliff-hanger ending had me itching for more. Overall, I would highly recommend this book because I LOVED IT!!! :D
The irony(Spoilers)
Well, didn't anybody find it ironic that kestrel had eggs with a rainwing? And is chameleon in love with kestrel? Also, chameleon can't change his scales, but he can transform into other dragons? And nobody expected the nightwing who attacked Kinkajou with his incredible, aaand found Darkstalker's scroll to be rainwing from Jambu's story, who was also Cirrus, and by the way did not target his glare at Moon but at Kinkajou! I mean, who does that? Another big surprise; Chameleon mated with kestrel and is Ember and Peril's father! Hats off Tui, and I hope that you will manage another super-plot Tornado like this one that'll throw us of our feet and make our head explode multiple times like in EP. I am really gonna surprised with what this author does!
Wonderful ride for readers!
This is definitely a great book for young readers, and it seems like Tui put her whole entire heart into this book (Not saying that she doesn't for all of her books!) My friend and I both read wings of fire, and she was crying and laughing at some parts in this book. She'd always get particularly annoyed - she still seemed happy though, don't get me wrong - when she would ask a question and I would always respond by "you'll see." Before this book came out, my friend and I were hyped for it. Thank you, Tui, for sharing your wonderful stories with the world!
REALLY GREAT STORY! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
I love this story. Especially if you give this book to a ten year old. I would suggest buying hardcover pack. Paper pack can chip and tear easily so, be carful. But, if you think hard cover is to expensive then, go with paper pack! 😄
We just love all these books!!!
We loved this book. They seem like they're getting better and better. Peril might be my favorite character. My son says "me too" (he is 8 and I am 35).
Must Have For Dragon Fan!
A gift for my friends daughter which loves dragons. I brought a smile to a 10 year olds face and has re-read this series countless times wanted her own copy of this book.
Great Book, Came in good condition
The book was great, the whole series is amazing, can't wait for #14! I am planning on reading some of Tui's other books, to see if they are as great as this series, she's an amazing author.
Audiobook is a quick listen
My song listed to this book and followed along with the actually book in two days. He loved it and wouldn’t stop until it was finished.
LOVE Wings of Fire
Love, love, LOVE Tui Sutherland's series Wings of Fire. She can't write the books fast enough for my young son (or for me!). We have bought the entire series twice: Kindle and Hardback so that we can read on the go, too. My son has read each of the books at least twice!!
Great Dragon Series
Great series if dragons interest you or your children this is a must read my 9 and 12 year old love the series
I thought this would make me hate peril
So I thought this book would make me hate peril but it didn't it made me really like her. This book was very interesting
Outstanding
An incredible tale of trust and family, Sutherland captures the struggles of the protagonist without falter. I highly recommend this to readers interested in the fantasy genre.
Great condition
Arrived quickly, the books are great for teens and young children with good reading ability.
Must read!!
I have re red this entire series 2 times and about to read it for a third time you shold get this book no questions asked, maybe my vition is clouded by being a fanboy of this series but dang it i cant help myself xD
Wings of Fire -- Awesome Author!
This was purchased as a gift for a young boy who likes dragons. It is one of the books in the Wings of Fire series. I REALLY LIKE how this author writes!
Great series for my 17-year-old
My Love this series and she loved this book as well. Keep them coming
Great Perspective
The book was great! I loved seeing in Peril's point of view. And the twist at the end was amazing. The only thing keeping me away from five stars is that they changed the plot of the new Dragonets of Destiny, to Peril's point of view and story, and changed the New Dragonets of Destiny to a B plot. The book was still awesome though!
Good buy
My daughter has been reading this series and she was excited to get this book.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AND EVEN MORE AWESOME!!!!
The best book series EVER WRITTEN!!!! This is my favorite book series because I love that no matter which part of the book you're reading, you always just HAVE to read on! I read the book in a day! I'm looking forward to more Wings of Fire books! Can't wait to read more! You're the best author ever, Tui T. Sutherland!!! I'm a big FanWing ;)
Exciting series
9yr old grandson is reading the series. Currently he's up to book 7. He loves this series.
Great Book!
I bought this book for my grandaughter!
One of the best books yet!
I loved this book. I just couldn't put it away. A amazing must read book. And don't even get me started on the other books in the series! They are always amazing. Read the series if you like fantasy or Harry Potter, they are kind of similar in a fantasy type way if you catch my drift. Warning:cliffhanger if you don't like them wait until the next book comes out so you can find out what happens next.
Can’t wait for the next book.
I bought this book for my grandson. He is addicted to this series. He asks for the next book before he’s finished with the one he is reading. He wants to have the next book ready to start as soon as he’s finished. He doesn’t like to wait.
Lots of action
Great series for young boys.
Five Stars
12 year went through this series very easily and I could not get the books fast enough.
Woah
NO way this is the end of the series!! OK you haven't read the book yet stop reading this comment. By Peril burning the scroll did she release the power of it back to Darkstalker? That's my theory. -TheKayeDragon
Good read
My son really enjoy this book
The book series was amazing!! Ever since I've been reading the series
(Daughter speaking) I LOOOOVE IT!!!! The book series was amazing!! Ever since I've been reading the series, I could NOT put it down. I have been reading more than 2 hours a day! If you haven't checked this series out yet, YOU MUST!! :D
Amazing adventures with dragons!
I bought this for my grandson and he really loves this and how it continues and adds to the original series. The characters are so well written that you forget they're dragons and get caught up in their adventures.
Wings if fire book
My son loves this series
Amazing book
It was awesome. the suspense, the action, and the plot line. Totally unpredictable! I thing this book is awesome! Hope you enjoy the book!
I have read all these books. The first book ...
I have read all these books. The first book was a little hard for my son to follow at first. The book includes maps of the areas talked about and pictures of the species that are discussed. We copied them on our scanner and used them as he read the story. He had no trouble following alone after that.
This one fell short
Review first published on jenasbookreviews.blogspot.com The 8th book in the Wings of Fire series. Now that Queen Scarlet has revealed herself to still be alive and out for vengeance, Peril has decided that she is the only one who can stop her and protect Clay. Turtle, a Seawing prince, decides that since his friends are already off on a dangerous mission he should join up with Peril to try and stop Scarlet and help Queen Ruby. Once they get separated though, that's when Peril's father shows up, in the employ of Queen Scarlet. He is able to give Peril the one thing she wants above all else, the loss of her fire-scales, but it comes at a cost that may be more than she is willing to pay. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous installments. I wanted to know more about Peril because I think she is one of the more interesting characters that we met in the first five books. I get that Peril is a broken character but being inside her mind was boring and repetitive. While she did grow a bit as a character by the end of the book, it was only a little. The fact that most of the book was very predictable, much like Peril's thoughts, didn't help either. The end looks promising for the next book so here's hoping this one was just a fluke.
Great story lines
My granddaughter collects these books and she thinks they are great

I choose this rating because of its moral. The moral is, DON'T judge a person by what they look like. Have fun reading it! I would choose it for my brother because he is different like Peril.
Amazing!
I loved the drama, the intense, but also the kindness. It had plenty of juicy plot twists and incredible detail. You could picture everything like you were there. I recommend this book to ages 9+.

Best Book Ever
I’m probably biased because I read the rest of the series but every next book is a new perspective that makes me fall in love with the character. I would suggest that you start from the beginning of the series so you can get every point of view <3

prophesied
I am a school librarian. I bought this book at the end of the school year. My 5th and 6th grade students found it first and I couldn't keep it on the shelf. My 5th and 6th grade students love this series. Each book in the series continues the story of the Dragons of Destiny. It was prophesied the Dragons of Destiny would stop the war and name the new Queen. The Dragons of Destiny were taken from their families/ tribes as eggs. They were kept in a cave for their safety. Their only knowledge of the outside is from scrolls. After running away, they go in search of their lost families, try of figure out how they are suppose to stop the war and struggle with who deserves to be queen. During these adventures the dragons find the beliefs and dreams of their families and tribes are not always in line with reality. Each book chronicles their adventures. I recommend this book.

no bad language though
My daughter loves this series. She just turned 14. The books are well written, and not very scary. There are times when the dragons fight/die or kill each other, so I would say PG reading... no bad language though.

Amazing
This book was so amazing. There was so much action. I loved to read this book I couldn't stop reading it. It was kind of sad to finish it.
Just what is the greatest Peril Pyrrhia faces?
Eight books into the series, and Tui Sutherland hasn't lost steam. Each book continues the story from the previous ones, but through the eyes of a different main character. Peril is the the most deadly dragon in the world of Pyrrhia, and rightly so. With a simple touch, she can kill almost anybody! Trying to redeem herself, we really get to know how she views herself and others; she was raised to be a killer, so that's how she thinks. It's scary to follow her through her adventure with Turtle, trying to find former-queen Scarlett, and put a stop to her reign of terror. The pace in the story was well written, keeping me interested through the whole thing. Through all of these books, I just want to scream at a character, who always seems to misunderstand the feelings of their friends. But in the end, they grow to know how their friends give them strength.
Amazing!
This book is so good! It has adventure, thrill, and suspense. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone reading this!
