My 8 year old son was excited to read his new book but we both quickly realized that it was not appropriate for him. There is no reason for there to be multiple pages of nothing but a dog puking violently everywhere. What is my kid getting out of that? In addition, my son even found it somewhat hard to read because of the horrible english it uses. It combines words together to form words that don't even exist which is not what a second grader needs to practice reading! I tried to return this as my son is refusing to read it after the puking dog pages but return shipping was more than I paid for the book to begin with. Do yourself a favor and get your child something worthwhile to read and skip this horrible book.

My nine year old loves this series. I decided to read this volume to find out why my son finds Dog Man so entertaining. What I found is that there isn’t anything too mysterious about its appeal. A mix of sympathetic characters, gross-out scenes and a bland but well-meaning moral seem to be the formula for its success. The emphasis on bodily humor will probably make the book more suitable for a boy than a girl. But perhaps a review by a child would be more apt than a forty-something’s opinion. He thought it was good but not great. Dog Man is a good choice if you are looking for a book that your pre-teen will read without having to apply any pressure. But don’t expect anything too substantial in the text.

I sat and read with him and omg.....I was appalled by the poor grammar, language and disrespect. Talk about dumbing down our kids. They talk like uneducated thugs, and sorry but calling someone dumb, poopy and stupid is not allowed in this household. Worst part is I bought him the whole series not just this book. I would highly not recommend these books. They're awful and a waste of money. I also bought the Dan Gutman Weird School books and they have the same poor content as these. Stick with classics! These books SUCK.

Dog Man cannot talk for the reason because he’s a dog with a human body used to belong to his K-9 policeman killed in action. As the title "The Brawl of the Wild" adumbrates, Dog Man is in a way reminiscent of Buck, the sled dog in Jack London’s classic The Call of the Wild that comes to term with his fate and even reconciliation with a treacherous human in the person of Thornton. Then there are Petey, who is supposedly a sinister jailbird, but in fact softy inside, his cute young son Li’l Petey, who never gives up on his jail- bound father Petey in his joint collaboration with Dog Man in rescue operation of the city, and stern but benevolent Chief, who seems to defend Dog Man against unjust and unfair treatments from his fellow policeman/policewomen and the pompous judge. Wisecraking and heartwarming, hilarious and sentimental, intelligent and vivacious, each of the chapters is smoothly linked to the next one with amusing in-between intermissions that deserves of the separate theaters of appreciation. The book is an enjoyable parade of laugh and compassion wrapped up in delightful amusement of vivid colors and elegant dialogues, which can be made possible by an insightful and observant author who stands with the reader and sees hope and goodness mired in the despair of hopelessness and powerlessness at the heart of humanity. I recommend this book to all who want to spend their time reading something jovial and funny after a long hard day or just to fill their minds and hearts with a fresh breath of air. This is a scintillating read that evokes a wide arc of thoughtfulness and imagination in the minds of readers both young and old, and the young at heart.

This lovely book came Monday 12/24. My 8 yo and 6yo have already devoured it. My 6yo is not a confident reader. He’s great at reading but doesn’t seem to trust his own abilities. Something really clicked with him a week ago and this kiddo binge read all 5 Dog Man books so he would be caught up for #6. I love how these books spark a love of reading and a lot of laughs.

My niece loves this series and we couldn't wait for this book. She has already read it a few times and it also makes her go read the whole series again. Thank you for writing books to keep her interested. And now she is drawing her own characters and making her own little comic. Thank you for inspiring young minds.

My son loves these books! We pre-ordered this book for him so he could continue his collection. This one was one of his favorites so far. He literally laughs out loud and loves reading them with his dad. Any book that has my kids excited to read is a great accomplishment in my opinion!

This series is a huge hit in our home. We preordered this one as a Christmas gift for our son and he reads it every night. He finishes it and then starts over. It definitely encourages him to read. He finds the book hilarious and wants to read what happens to family members and friends to share laughs. The only downfall is that he stays up too late in his room reading and laughing after bedtime. :)

I am a camp director and brought this as an outlet for campers who need some time to themselves. It has done that and much more! I will admit, these books are childish and rather absurd; but they get kids reading and it is a bridge for your to connect with them regarding something they're interested in. The one note I will make is that these books can, on occasion, address some topic that will prompt questions or discussions. For example, one book talked about the grandpa cat going to jail and tricking his grandson and son. Another talked about a drug that hype's one up. Another talked about leaving people behind. Nothing negative, just a fair warning to be prepared to discuss these topics or have a segue ready. But kids love them!

I'm really not a big fan of these types of books, especially because they intentionally misspell words or use made-up words/slang. It's ok when they're reading to me and we can talk about it, but they'll also read these independently. And there's the big benefit...these types of books are the only ones my 8- and 9-year-old boys will CHOOSE to read without being asked.

Very nice book my second grader son loves to read it for fun!!!

My children are Dav Pilkey fans. They have loved Captain Underpants, Super Diaper Baby, Ook and Gluk, and Dog Man. They love the story of Dog Man. I know there are parents who dislike the misspellings, and at first I was one of them. But my youngest has taught herself how to read, and reading a bunch of misspelled words haven't harmed her reading skills. We've given the books as gifts, and the kids love them. Dav Pilkey obviously knows how to entertain children and to keep them engaged with his stories. My children look forward to reading more Dav Pilkey's books.

My 10 year old grandson eagerly awaits each of these books and is so excited to read the next one. While these are graphic novels, his reading ability has expanded to now reading chapter books as well. So, he now alternates between them, which his parents are very grateful for. There's fun and also a good lesson to be learned in each one. Sometimes, we alternate reading the different characters. It has also inspired him to create his own graphic novels and so, in addition to his reading ability, his artful endeavors are improving as well. He is learning to come up with a story idea and develop a beginning, middle and end. And, he's having fun doing it!

What can we say, the kids love the series. We pre ordered from Amazon the release day was Christmas Eve. We received our order on the delivery date which was the release date of the book and Christmas Eve. Can't as for anything more. Perfect!!! My son loved the book and has read it a few times now.

I have kids that don't like to read, but they'll read this. Sure it contains misspelled words, it was done to make it more realistic, and that it's written by two prankster boys. Written in slap-stick comic book format. What about Mark Twain books? I couldn't get over the southern dialect and slang. And I don't think this is for second graders. I'd say fourth grade and up is ok. Anyhoo this book has some 80s elements and humor, and still has modern ideas and laughs. It's a good book you can read again and again.

Ever since we saw Dav Pilkey at an event a couple of years ago, my daughter has let me know when a new book was scheduled for release so we could pre-order. She loves Dogman books (well, anything by Dav Pilkey). I like that Amazon makes it so darn easy- pre-order, it arrives the day of release and often costs less than what the price was Amazon originally quoted. Can't beat that.

My granddaughter is a huge Dog Man book fan. When this new book was planning to be released on Christmas Eve I was concerned that my schedule eould be full and unable to obtsin the book for Christmas morning. I reluctantly reordered the book in October. To my surprise the book arrived at 8am Christmas Eve morning. I squealed like a child, as my granddaughter was sleeping in the next room. I secretly wrapped it in bows and waited. Christmas morning when my granddaughter excitedly unwrapped the book and danced around, my heart was happy. I watched my granddaughter read the book Christmas night cover to cover, as she reads every Dog Man book. This book was a special.

This book is horrible. Why would a children's book teach bad grammar and rude behavior? Silly books are fun but this book is just dumbing down my kid. It will mysteriously dissappear from our house soon.

My wife bought this for my 4 year old daughter when it was selling for $4.49. What came in the post exceeded our expectations. Hard covered and full colored, this is quite a thick book. We read it our 4 year old daughter and she loves it so much she finished reading (or she made us read it to her) in one day. Now she is going through it a second time, making me read it to her first thing in the morning. The jokes are funny and the story, creative. We decided to buy another dog man book after this one since our daughter loved it.

My first grade grandson read one of these books in the series at school, he loves them. We have ordered all that are available so far and awaiting the newest one eagerly. They are written in a comic book type manner and according to him have a great storyline.

Comic book format: my students LOVE this series and it is the number 1 most circulated books in my school library. As the school librarian, I broke all the purchasing rules and had to keep buying more quantity due to the popularity of this series. Seems to be gender neutral and all ages students love them! Seems like a new title in the series comes out every 6 months!

It is the sixth Book in the Dog Man series. Dog Man is a dog-headed cop who is great at solving crimes. The story starts with a bag of money under Dog Man’s pillow which eventually leads Dog Man to jail for 14 years. Is Dog man really guilty or is someone framing him? In the meantime, Sara, her dog Zuzu and Yolay Caprese a famous actor search for evidence that Dog Man is innocent. Will they find proof and convince the judge or will it be too late? If you like books about adventure and mystery this book Will be perfect for you. This book is filled with laughter and jokes. I think the book has great illustrations throughout. Also, there are flip-o-ramas which when you flip the page fast will appear as an animated scene. One part I liked about the book is when the chief was showing dog man how to do claymation but dog man kept eating the clay. Then Dog Man threw up and a bunch of clay flew out of his mouth onto chiefs body. Another part I liked is when little Petey told a bunch of jokes and the answer to all of them was diarrhea.

My Daughter read this book in a day. I pre-ordered it prior to the release and ended up getting it the day before Christmas, it was a great surprise for my daughter. She enjoyed this one because it brought back a lot of the older characters. Definitely recommend!

Are you kidding!?!? It’s an 8 yr old’s dream! Christmas rocked!

My 7-year-old grandson got this for Christmas. With all his expensive gifts he could have chosen to play with first, he took off to a quiet place in the house and started this book! What a WIN for parents & grandparents trying to get him to enjoy reading! With interruptions, he was still half-finished when they left for home! He loves these books! All the kids in his classroom wanted to borrow it when he got back to school after break.

Pre-ordered this book as a Christmas Eve gift for my son. Amazon delivered it, as promised, on Christmas Eve! This is another great addition to the Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey. My son couldn't put it down. He's not read every Dav Pilkey book that is out there. If it weren't for Mr. Pilkey, my son would not be into reading! Pilkey got him hooked, and now he reads everything he can get his hands on! (He's in 2nd grade.)

After it arrived he went straight to reading and finished it that day saying it was an awesome story. Now, this is from an eight year old as I have not read them yet, but he certainly enjoys them.

What can I say? These books are a hit. Always a favorite. There's usually a line or two in there that make a parent laugh. Not always excited about the spelling and grammar (because it's written by "kids" - they write like we talk) but overall, gets my kid to read.

My 6 year old loves this series. He looks forward to reading it on his own—a first! They have cute humor, a flip-o-Rama animation and easy lessons on drawing the characters. Yes, the text is more vernacular than proper. So what! Worth sparking a joy of reading!

After purchasing the series, my child was upgraded three reading levels, as the common core reading lessons weren't challenging enough. I recommend this book to any Mother and or Father who not only wants to heighten their child's reading ability, but also prepare them for comic books as well!

I started buying this series for my grandson who is learning disabled in the area of reading and was unmotivated to read the usual books at his reading level. He loved them, worked hard to read them and has now moved on to more difficult books. I bought this book for his younger brother for his 9th birthday. He's a good reader but loves these books.

My 8 year old grandson loved this book. He has all of the Dog Man series currently out. He keeps track of when the new releases are coming on his calendar and wants to have each new book immediately. A lot of his 3rd grade classmates love these books as well.

A review by our son: I have read Dog Man 1 through 5, and when I bought this one I was super excited! I read it, and that made me read the whole series over and over again! I have now started making my own mini comic books, and all got inspired by Dog Man! Now I have pre-ordered Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls (Dog Man 7). I also got Super Diaper Baby, Ook and Gluk, and I have read Captain Underpants, although I don't have it.

Arrived quickly. My son loves this series and he loved this book! Comic book style reading is great for kids whose attention spans don't allow for chapter books, but still enjoy reading. He is eagerly anticipating a new Dog Man books arrival!

I bought the first three books in this series as a gift for my grandson who HATES to read. He hasn't put the books down. I already bought books 4,5,and 6. Book 7 won't be out till August. He is a 10-year-old 4th grader.

My son is a first grader reading at a 2.5 - 3rd grade level and he loves these books. Therefore, I have no complaints, because he's reading and he loves doing it. We'll keep buying them as more come out!

I bought the entire collection (9 books) for my 7-year old daughter. They are absolutely her favorite books! They never fail to make her laugh each and every time she read them.

Got for my 10 year old by request. Some ten year olds are WAY into books, some are picky, and some wouldnt crack a book if lives depended on it. This character has no idea what she was in for.

My son is 7 and loves these books. He has everyone in the series and has been waiting for this one to come out. I love that they are "chapter" books, while being a little simpler format for kids who are not the strongest readers.

We love the Dogman and Captain Underpants series. Our five year-old loved both series but especially dogman because she’s now starting to read on her own. These books are well written and entertaining, especially for the parents. The comic approach makes it a great way for early readers to learn.

There's a lot of adventure in the book. My child also thought it was funny.

The kids love these books, but it had poor packaging. The corners were a little beat up because it was thrown in a box with nothing to protect it. I would have returned it, but was cutting close to my deadline for a Christmas book exchange.

We pre-ordered this and it came out Dec. 24th, we got it the same day just in time for Christmas! My son was thrilled and thought Santa brought it with him. :)

My little boy's favorite series of books! They are written in the language of a kid, and illustrated in comic book style. Goofy, fun read with a few life lessons thrown in.

I preordered this and it came to the front door Christmas Eve. My little sister was so surprised to open the door that night to see there was a gift left for her from Santa and was even more ecstatic after opening it and saw what was inside. She’s a HUGE Dog Man fan!

These graphic novels are read and reread countless times by my 8 year old. He started with the original Dog Man book received as a gift and has clammored to read each of the subsequent titles. Dav Pilkey and his Dog Man stories have helped to nurture a love of reading in my son.

We love getting these from Amazon because they usually arrive on the release date if you pre-order. This is my son's favorite series. It's silly with and easy to read.

The content of the book is very pleasant for my children, it is the second topic that I buy from these books. but this one has arrived to me a little deteriorated its portado and some pages. it is clear that those who manipulated the book until they reached my house were not careful with it. I do not think I can return it since my children are fascinated with its content, but a future purchase may use another means that guarantees a product in perfect condition. regards..!
