So much info in such a little book!!! Perfect size for casual birdwatchers!

I love how this little book is organized by main body color and shows photos of both genders...females are usually less flashy so a lot of the ladies are in the 'brown' section. The photos are very detailed and the guide is incredibly comprehensive, given that the book is only about 5" x 7." I think that makes it the perfect size to tuck in your bag if you're out birdwatching. I have a corner office with 2 windows that overlook trees and bird feeders. I keep this on my desk for quick reference. It features 111 most common birds of Wisconsin, so if you're a hardcore birder out during the North American spring migration season, it might not be comprehensive enough for your identification needs. For someone with a more casual approach or new to birdwatching, this will be perfect.

backpack or jacket pocket for easy access!

I've had a copy of this handy bird guide for years but this was an updated version ... And if you want, you can order the CD of bird sounds as a companion to the book for further acquaint you with birds in your yard! Keep a record of birds appearing at your house or on hikes by marking the page. Small enough to tuck into your purse, backpack or jacket pocket for easy access!. A nice little gift for a birthday or student or bird lover!

Very good book to have around to identify birds. We use it a lot.

I like Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide by Stan Tekiela, because it makes quick work of identifying the birds that come to our feeders. Since the book is organized by color, we can easily search for out mystery bird. I like the large pictures the book provides. I've checked out several bird books at our local library, but this is the only one I've purchased. I would definitely recommend buying this one. We use it often. Although I frequently do reviews on products offered to me at a promotional price, this was a personal purchase. I paid full retail price, and was not asked, nor am I obligated to give a review.

Helpful, easy to use book! (from a birding newbie)

We put a couple bird feeders in our back yard this summer, and within a few weeks had many daily visitors. We'd all look out the window and keep asking each other, "What's that white and black one with the red on its head?" "Look at that one hopping upside down to the feeder! What the heck IS that?" Running to a computer to ID each bird leaves something to be desired. I can't tell you how many times Google Images thought my description was of Donald Duck. My son is going for his Naturalist badge in Cub Scouts, and one of the things he can do for the badge is keep a log of birds he sees for a week. So he kept looking out at the bird feeders, again asking what each bird's name was. Good ol' mom decided to pull out a book to help out. I got out the Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide, which I'd bought awhile back, thinking that owning it would teach me birds' names by osmosis (it didn't). What a great little book. Descriptions of the birds and tips about things to look (or listen) for are informative and helpful, and every aspect of the book is organized well. It never takes me more than a few seconds to find the bird I'm looking for. The pages are color coded, so if you flip to the red part you find birds that are primarily red, the gray part has birds that are primarily gray, and so on. The color sections are then sorted by size, so if you are looking at a teeny tiny bird, start at the first pages of that color; larger birds are farther in. Some male and females are colored differently. In these cases there's a smaller snapshot of the other-colored bird on the main colored bird's page. Ingenious! If a bird is similar-looking to other birds, those birds (with page number) are referenced on each similar-looking bird's page. In a very short amount of time our family has gone from thinking every bird we saw was a sparrow to being able to identify easily around 15 types of birds in our backyard. Our now dog-eared copy of Birds of Wisconsin sits on our kitchen windowsill, where we're still looking at it daily.

Very informative, easy to use field guide

This book is a very useful guide to the birds of Wisconsin. With the color coded page tabs, it's very easy to quickly identify birds you see. Simply look under the colored tab that matches the primary color of the bird you are trying to identify. It also provides all the pertinent information about the bird regarding the size, migration route, feeding and nesting patterns, etc. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to know more about the birds that are coming to their feeders, or birds they just come across. The book is small enough in size to fit into your pocket, so it's easy to take along on nature hikes.

So-so

Book isn't that great.....doesn't say much about birds, doesn't identify many and I really don't know much more now than I knew before getting the book.

Must have book!!

Since my husband retired in 2009 & we built our new home in a great area for having bird feeders all around the yard, we use this book all the time. Whenever we see a new bird by a feeder, we immediately go to this book and we will be able to identify it with no problem. We have learned so much about area birds, we feel like experts. It's a great book for beginners, very helpful with lots of info about all their habits, what to feed them, how they change colors from summer to winter, and great closeup photos for identification.

Handy bird guide

Its a nice fairly small sized book which makes it easy to take along on a hike or camping. I also really enjoyed the organization by color it makes looking birds up easy to do when you don't know the name.

Best bird book ever!

Absolutely love this book! I do a lot of bird watching and this book is awesome. Very thorough and informative with beautiful illustrations. Definitely recommend!!

Wisconsin bird identification book

This book was very clear and easy to read. Very easy to find the bird you are looking for. Nice colored pictures and great information.

GREAT BOOK!!!

Love this book!! Got it for ourselves to identify all the birds coming to our feeders. So far we've found each of the birds in the book and we love that you search by COLOR!!!

Best Bird Book

I wanted a bird book that was specific to my area. My search first took me to our local library where I checked out Birds of Wisconsin. I was hooked from the beginning and immediately ordered on for myself. This book contains interesting general facts about birds and bird watching. It is also organized well. The book is divided into sections based on the prominent color of birds. When you are trying to identify a bird, go to the section that associated with the birds prominent color. Within each section, the birds are listed according to size. I tagged the beginning of each section and can quickly find the bird I want. There has been a couple of times when I thought the birds prominent color was different than what's listed in the book, however, that should not stop you from getting this book! My only regret is that I did not order the companion CD.

Thought this book had everything...

...but I was mistaken. There are several birds not included in this book that I know to be in my area of Wisconsin. Specifically the Whippoorwill is missing. Somewhat disappointed.

Detailed Photos, Very Helpful

This book is very easy to use. It's color coded with more than one color for birds that display more than one prominent color. Pictures include male and female versions and sometimes juveniles and pictures of the bird in flight. This book has been very helpful in identifying birds outside my office.

Nice compact book.

This is my porch copy. I use this with my cell to identify birds. Well organized and informational considering it's compact size.

This book is amazing! It is great to have full color photographs of books to compare to what we are seeing outside our window. The book sorts birds by color which makes them much easier to find. My family loves it. My 5 and 7 year old can use it independently.

It was a gift.

I gave the book as a gift to a friend. She has not said anything about it. I do have the same book and find it is very helpful to find the birds I see.

Best bird book!

We love this bird book! I love how it is organized by color. When see a new bird while we are camping we just look it up by its main color. It shows male and female coloring. It is a great size for carrying it with you. I would love one bigger for our camper!

Fits in the pack!

We take this hiking in the state parks with us. Works well and we are checking off the ones we see

Ok

Thought it would have more bird varieties among the same kind, had to order a different one

Nice simple book

I wanted a book that I could reference instead of relying on my phone and it not have service. The field guide is organized by color which is a nice quick reference. I am new to observing birds, so this is a nice beginner guide. I liked the info that comes along with the picture of the bird. Nice book.

My favorite bird book.

Bought this for our Granddaughter as she is getting interested in birds. My husband and I have used ours for years and loved it.

I just love this little book

I just love this little book! It's pretty thick, but it's smaller in size, so fits nicely in a backpack or bag. I actually saw this book on my cousin's bookshelf one day, and started looking at it, and it got me interested in wanting to know more about birds! So I bought my own copy and bring it with me when I know I'm going on a hike. A nice hobby to have on the side.

Great book! Very complete

Awesome! So glad we purchased it. Nice to have a book for the area we want, and color sectioned with color photos of each bird.

Great gift for the casual observer

Exactly what I was looking for, for the wife who is just a casual observer. No field-specific knowledge required to begin using it; THAT was the object. It's nicely bound; small enough to be handy on the back porch or to take along in the car but very nicely illustrated.

A must-have Wisconsin bird guide book

What sets this apart are the photos! Really can distinguish the types birds coming to our feeder!

Good

Good. Easy to use

Birds book

The book is very informative, since we have a lot of birds in our area where we live. We wanted to know what kind of birds they are and what they eat. We got some bird feeders and houses for them. They are such beautiful birds to see and watch what they're doing. We took some pictures and these birds are the ones that we never have seen in our lives until we moved here....

Great little reference book

This is an ideal quick reference book for those that would like to identify the birds in the backyard. I found that it identifies most of the birds in our area and in addition gives us a little bit more information about the birds habits. Bottom line: A Very Good Quick General Reference Book.

Good buy

We bought it to identify birds coming to our bird feeder. Pictures are good and the descriptions about the birds are fun to read. We didn’t get a cd with the book.

Not disappointed

I just started to feed birds again and was starting to see birds I haven't seen before so I purchased this book. This book gives great details about all the birds and they are color coded so they are easy to find. Have found all birds so far except the book only shows one Hummingbird and I think we have a different kind. But I still love this book!

Brand new condition book, fast shipping... I haven't been able to use it yet, but it was recommended to me by a close friend who is an avid birder. She says it is good for beginners.

Great for identifying the birds in your yard

We love this book. We had one when we loved on MO too. So mamy bird species!

Great book

This book has pictures of birds, not drawings, so it is easy to compare to the birds in the yard. Only a couple needed extra research on the internet for finer points to distinguish certain birds from others.

Easy identification

My favorite bird book of all time. Easy to use and match the birds through the pictures. Highly recommend. Love the small size of it, very pack able, and also small enough to keep out by your bird watching chair...the one next to your patio door!

So much info.

I’m a bird nerd so of course this is a five star purchase. 🐦

Makes Identification Easy

This book makes identifying birds easy - only birds found in Wisconsin are listed, large photos of both male and female birds, maps of when they are in which parts of the state (year-round, winter, summer, or migration), great organization, and even some comments to help differentiate between similar birds. Highly recommended!

Wish it was available in large print!

We've owned this for years and we love it! Just bought another for my step-grandpa for father's day, just wish it came in large print for him!

My Go To Must Have

Most EXCELLENT!

Great book, full of good color pictures and descriptions. The best thing is that it cataloges the birds by main color. so a blue jay is under blue, a robin is under red (or is it orange) but a house finch is under orange because although the finch is brown the female is very surprisingly orange chest and wings.

Great for beginning bird watchers!
