New revision left behind 3 key itmes from original version.
I absolutely loved the bible except for three things that I liked in 1st edition and is not in this 2nd edition. 1. Verses are not singular, they run together like a story (other than Prov., Psalms, and a couple others in the old testament). 1.a The verses running together it's not easy to find verses and it makes for not an easy memorization. 2. They removed the highlighting of God's promises throughout the bible. 2a. Highlighted promises made for easy visual finds which are comforting as you read. 3. They removed the arrows at verses that signified there is a more in-depth understanding of the verse at the bottom of the page. Other than these, the bible is very very nice! I hope they make a 3rd revision to keep everything about this bible but add back these three items. The only other thing I wish they could do would make it red letter for Christ words.
Unexpectedly beautiful
I was surprised at how beautiful this Bible was when I took it out of the box. I didn't expect it to be so aesthetically pleasing both on the inside and outside. I’ve purchased far more expensive Bibles, but this one is truly the most elegant. It’s large print so very comfortable on aging eyes. The paper is white and makes the print stand out. You’ll find references below the main text (justified, which I find pleasant), and the notes on the text are below that. More detailed lessons get their own page and I like all the blue color that’s used to mark different sections of the Bible. It’s just lovely against the white paper, which is also not too thick or too thin. It comes with two beautiful ribbons, a deep red and a gold one, that compliment the Bible well and it has gold gilding. Most of all, it has solid life principles and information to help a follower of Christ apply the living Word of God to life and all that it brings. Just so well done. I honestly did not expect to like this so much. I’m so impressed with it that I ordered a copy for my sister. This is a big, heavy Bible, partly because of the extra notes and because it’s large print, probably best used at home, but I’ve seen many believers carry a Bible of this size to church and Bible studies. I’ve just gotten it, so I can’t speak for its wear and tear. I imagine the imitation leather will not last long, but for the price, I think it’s well worth the purchase. I spent $34.11 on my copy and it’s definitely worth much more than that.
I highly recommend this Charles Stanley Life Principles Bible
I am very pleased with this bible. I am going to retire my old daily reader for this Charles Stanley Life Principles bible I just received. It's going to be very helpful as my husband and I read together every day. It is very user friendly with lots of ways to study everything you desire. Concordance and maps are very helpful. The life principles are excellent in daily guidance. My husband liked it so much, we will be purchasing another one for him as well. We've watch Charles Stanley via Internet for years. He is true, gentle, and genuine in the way he teaches. We love Charles Stanley. He never disappoints. He is right on with his teaching according to scripture and I never doubt him. You can always check him on scripture. This bible is a true treasure of God's word with much appreciated and guided help by Charles Stanley. Excellent. I love God's word and love this bible. Great quality!
Disappointed Bible was not large print
I just received my bible and although I am a follower of Dr Stanley and have his bible in the NIV version, I decided I wanted a NKJV since that is what is being taught in most churches so I upgraded to the second edition in the NIV version only because what I first read said it was in 11 point font. However after receiving the Bible and examining it, I noticed the print was smaller. I put the NIV large print I have next to it and noticed a difference. I went back and reread the description and upon scrolling alllllllll the way to the bottom it said 10 point font. I am very disappointed as my vision is not that good and I depend on large print to read. In conclusion, I love Dr Stanley and follow his teachings and think he is an excellent teacher.
A pleasure to hold and read
Paper is white but not glaring white. The print is black with chapter numbers darker. Nice The print itself is of a nice font ,readable. I have tried several bibles over the years . This one is my go to bible. Really nice cover soft and has a nice feel when holding it . The pages turn easy seems to lay flat. The cover may be glued not sewed as you might be use to. It’s more of a wrap around. Not the les it’s very nice. The draw back . It’s a heavy bible . And at my age that matters. I plan to make it a my everyday bible . So very pleased
Great Bible
Really like this Bible. Charles Stanley comments are great. Not a commentary but very spiritually enlightening.
Great bible
Love this bible. The insights and commentary are great. Easy to read well made. I like the print size. Highly recommend.
Best Bible ever!
There's nothing negative to say about this Bible. It's easy to read because it's a NKJV but the best, positive perk is found in the wise words of Dr. Stanley, who penned the Life Principles that follow throughout Books, Chapters and Verses of the Bible. I have several Bibles and have read in each one but became discouraged in continuing, first the language was too challenging but I also consistently missed messages overall. This Bible makes learning about Christianity easy and truly educational. A wonderful Bible in every way. Can't say enough about it!
Beautiful Bible
This is a beautiful bible. The leather is so soft and manly looking. Nice thumb tabs which makes it easy to skip around quickly for my husband who is a Sunday School Teacher. It's a study Bible so it's thicker than a regular one. You cannot go wrong with Charles Stanley leading you! You won't be disappointed.
Best Bible I ever had.
The leather is beautiful and soft. The scripture is in the perfect reading size. The life lessons are beneficial and well written. Two book mark tassels instead of the typical one. Lots of wonderful things about this bible. I highly recommend it.

Love at First Touch!
This bible is beautiful in every sense of the word (pun is intended!). It smells delicious and every gold edged page is soft yet crisp at the same time. For me the font size is readable even without having to wear my reading glasses. The burgundy cover is lovely, warm and rich looking. It is without question well worth the price paid. Yes, I would purchase this bible again!
Great Bible

One of my favorites!
If you are in search of a good devotional Bible to comfort and teach you, the Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible would be one to pick up! I enjoy listening to Charles Stanley’s sermons and devotions online, so I have heard about his 30 life principles before. So, I was very excited to spend some time in this Bible! I was impressed with the construction of this Bible. The cover is black imitation leather, but it feels very smooth and sturdy. The front cover has “The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible” in silver lettering, and the spine says the same, along with “NKJV”. I like how the cover has two lines of perimeter stitching. I have not found that on any of my other Bibles. It has a paste down liner and silver page gilding. The binding is sewn, allowing the Bible to lay flat when reading and also making it more durable. This Bible is a black letter text, which I prefer for readibility, and an 11 point font. It also has two ribbons, red and black. The names of the books, headings, and chapter numbers are blue, and there are references included under the text. There are also “Life Lessons” notes at the bottom of each page. There are also many maps, charts, and articles throughout the Bible. The articles are “Answers to Life’s Questions” and “What the Bible Says About”. There is also a concordance. This is a Bible that I reach for when I want deeper insight into scripture, and material to help me apply scripture to my daily life. This edition of the Charles Stanley Life Principles Bible comes in the NKJV and the KJV. I am enjoying reading from the NKJV with my copy. I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thomas Nelson makes beautiful and well-constructed Bibles, and I am honored to have been able to review this Bible.
One of 4 Versions Life Principles Bibles - from a FBA member
Charles Stanley's church has been my home church for 10 years so I am at least partial to his teachings. I found the 30 life principles to be very valuable in times of personal storms and adversity and I could not recommend them enough. As of 2020, there are 4 versions of the Life Principles Bible by Charles Stanley: 1 - the KJV - currently on the second edition (more expanded commentary than the first, more maps and charts) 2 - the NKJV [the one I review] - the 2nd edition with the additions similar to the KJV 2-nd edition 3 - the NIV - still 1st edition only - (less additions than the prior 2 versions). No 2nd edition in the near future. 4 - the NASB - still 1st edition only. Charles Stanley's favorite version, will not be updated to the 2nd edition till at least 2022 due to an updated NASB coming out. Just like the NIV, the additions are more limited than those of the 2nd edition KJV and NKJV. I am attaching a picture with some of the highlights of the 2nd edition (applicable to NKJV and KJV). I must say that Amazon has far better prices for the LPB than even the store at Charles Stanley's church. As far as the commentary, once you read through the many pages, you realize that the author is a person who went through quite a lot of experiences in his life, some more painful than others. I have friends who are very close to him and all claim he is a pastor who practices what he preaches and he prays for hours each day. With regards to the leathersoft cover, it appears it lasts longer than the bonded leather that was promoted in the past. The Thomas Nelson website guarantees this Bible for life. Definitely recommended.
Beyond Expectations
Considering the low price and the fact that it uses "imitation" leather I was not really expecting much when I ordered this Bible. I was very pleasantly surprised at what I ended up receiving though. First of all, the Bible ships in a very nice looking gift box with the Bible safely tucked inside. Secondly, the imitation leather is the best quality "fake" leather that I have ever seen. I'm not sure what they are making imitation leather from these days but it looks and feels like the real thing. The material is very thick and supple. It has a shiny look to it and is very flexible. I've seen Bibles with real leather covers that don't look this nice. The interior pages are of above average quality when it comes to paper thickness and readability. It is not in large print, but is not so small that I need to wear my reading glasses. The tabbed pages are a really handy thing to have. This Bible is REALLY heavy. More so than most Bibles that come in hard cover. The flexible cover makes it easy to carry around but just keep in mind that it weighs quite a bit. I have not had time to dig through all of the additional commentary but the layout is easy to navigate through and it is a joy to read. I think that this would make an absolutely wonderful gift. Definitely well worth the money. I have spent much more in the past for Bibles that were not constructed anywhere near this well.
Love it
I like this a lot. The physical book itself is well put together; the print is easy to read (sort of large, which is nice), with nice layout and enough blue ink to break up the space. The "Leathersoft" binding feels very nice. It's attractively done with two nice bookmarks,, gold edging, reference tabs, etc. Would make a nice gift as well. As for the content, I'm new to Charles Stanley (I've known who he is, but never read any of him), and I like what he as done here very much. The "life principles" pages found throughout the book are easy to read and very Biblically referenced. Note that it is listed as a "Life Principles Bible," not a Study Bible. The content is very "devotional," rather than technical -- meaning more focused on life application than on technical definitions of words, etc. It doesn't supply guidance for every verse. It gives much, but really it reads more like a pastor giving Godly life guidance with an open Bible. I have only owned for a few days, but have already learned much. So good. As a Christian, I read the Bible regularly, and occasionally try a new-to-me study Bible in my personal reading; I look forward to working through each of these life principles and studying the thoroughly supplied references throughout. Very glad to have it! Highly recommend.
Comfort print works for my aging eyes.
I consider myself a little bit of a bible collector. Not that I think it affects my salvation, but I simply enjoy comparing the various translations, as well as differing notes from the study versions. While the NASB 1995 translation is my favorite for in-depth study, the NKJV translation is my favorite for more casual reading, so it is nice to see the Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible offered not only in NKJV, but also in a comfort print which seems to be easier reading with it's 10-point font size, for my aging eyes. I can even manage to read it without my reading glasses with very little effort. This bible is printed in China for Thomas Nelson, and though I had reservations about the print quality, I am pleased to say that the overall quality of the print surpasses many of my domestically printed bibles from years past. The printing from one page to the next, one book to the next, throughout the bible is consistent. It text is sharp, crisp, and dark. There are no spots that I could find where the print fades or smudges. I don't know what weight paper is used, but the opacity is enough that what little ghosting there is does not distract or take away from the readability of the text. My copy also exhibits excellent, and consistent line-matching. Also, the gold edge-gilding is done well and I haven't noticed any of the pages sticking together. This is just standard page gilding though, there is no art-gilding (colored dye on the page edge that the gilding is then applied over) like what you would find on higher end bibles. As for durability, only time will tell. I do not know if this bible has a glued or sewn binding. I also cannot predict as to how the flexible synthetic "leathersoft" cover will hold up, past experience with these types of soft synthetic covers says it should be good for half a decade or so if handled gently, less if subject to extremes like high heat from being left inside a car for long periods. I do know it would be a shame if such excellent printing in a bible went to waste in a short-lived bible due to poor physical construction. And while Thomas Nelson Publishers states on the box that this bible carries a lifetime guarantee, I do not know the specific as to what all that covers, nor what Thomas Nelson considers defects in materials vs normal wear and tear. As for Charles F. Stanley's commentary and study notes within this bible, that's all down to personal taste and your own system of beliefs. Personally, I find them a valuable resource, and though I may not agree with him on every single point (there aren't any in which I do), I am still thankful for the valuable insights and thought provoking viewpoints that the man offers through this bible. They key here is to remember that aside from the written word of God itself, all the extra study material is just one fallible man's (or several men's) opinions, and should be taken as no more or less than that. Do note that this is not a "words of Christ in red" version, and though that does not bother me in the slightest, some might take issue with it.
Very Nice Update; Disappointed It's No Longer Offered In NIV & NASB
I received a slightly different version of this "Life Principles (2d Edition) Bible," but the important things to discuss about the update are there. First, I was very pleasantly surprised by the "comfort print" font. To be blunt, I thought this was going to be a bit of a gimmick, but no, the font is very readable. One of the nicest (perhaps, the nicest) Bible font I've encountered. Second, I try not to become more of a fan of the author's notes (because they sometimes take away from The Author's notes), but often they do prove valuable. And that's what we have in this case. I'm neither a Charles Stanley groupie nor does my theological tradition fully align with his, but so what? Are his notes edifying? Do they point to God's wonderful work and to Christ? Yes and yes. Third, while I am no fan of the KJV I do like and use the NKJV. (I'm not a fan of the KJV because the archaic English is - for my work - no longer helpful and less and less relevant to things Biblical (though it stills remains relevant for literary purposes. As such, I like the modern language the NKJV uses. But both still don't take advantage of other manuscripts we now know of and use. In the interest of full disclosure, I favor the NET and the ESV.) Anyway, fortunately, in addition to this NKJV version (also, KJV) this "Life Principles Bible is also offered in NIV and NASB. Unfortunately, these latter two translations are only offered at this point in the First Edition! Sadly, I don't think this is going to change as a quick look at the Thomas Nelson website no longer shows "Charles Stanley Life Principles Bibles" in any translations other than NKJV and KJV. Finally, the Second Edition is a nice update to this Bible. So where does this leave us? Well, I really like the updated Second Edition. But I don't like that it only comes in (N)KJV translations. Maybe the solution is to use this Bible primarily for the notes, but have one's favorite translation alongside for the reading. Since I'm rating the product strictly as offered I'm going with "5 stars." But as a matter of practicality, whatever the reason for no longer offering a non-KJV-based edition Thomas Nelson has sort of pulled the rug out from the user. In that regard, "3 stars." But this product alone...? 5 stars.
A study tool...
The NKJV, Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible, 2nd Edition This is a copy of the Holy Scriptures. The General Editor is Charles F. Stanley. This is an awesome study tool. Stanley has included 30 articles on Life Principles. The first Life Principle is “Our intimacy with God—His highest priority for our lives—determine the impact of our lives.” There are many features added to this bible they include a discussion on the NKJ version, an introduction to each book, answers to life questions, life examples, life lessons and God’s promises. There is a list of abbreviations and several indexes. There are 100 maps and charts. The cross reference is invaluable. I must mention the easy to read print. It is wonderful. The cover of this bible is soft black imitation leather. It has an elegant look to it. The cover is a rich dark brown with gold printing. The binding is well done, and the bible lays flat when open. There are two ribbons, red and black. The text is black with headings in blue. There are many references under the text, notes at the bottom of each page, a concordance and articles inserted in the books. This book feels comfortable in my hands. I love the gold gilded pages and there are thumb indexes making it easy to find what you are searching for. This is so much more than a devotional bible it is a study bible. Charles F. Stanley is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta.
An Excellent NKJV Bible
I'm not normally a reader of the NKJV, but when I saw this one I thought it'd be interesting to revisit the translation with Stanley's study notes in it. In this edition, the font is nice and easy to read. The notes from Stanley throughout the Bible offer not only helpful, but extremely practical insights into the text that will help readers apply the Bible is their life. The pages come with a beautiful gilded edge, and the soft leather cover is excellent quality. The thumb index makes it easy for those who struggle to find certain books be able to find what they are looking for quickly and efficiently. Really like everything about this Bible, except the translation still feels dated and out of touch. However, if you're used to the NKJV then this Study Bible is absolutely an amazing tool to have.
Lovely
This review is for the 2nd edition of the Charles F. Stanley life principles bible. It comes packaged in a nice box that protects the book and speaks to some of the features of this bible. Opening the box you are presented with the bible. It is a dark maroon color, and the pages have a gold color on the outside. Gold and maroon look nice together. The material is some sort of imitation leather but it still feels and looks nice. There are some small features that really make a big difference. For instance, there are little cut out half-circles on the sides of the page that each show around 2-5 chapters (names are abbreviated) on them, so you can more easily flip to a section that you're looking for without going to a table of contents, looking for a page number and flipping around. This is just a small but really nice feature. As for the content of the bible, this is a the NKJV translation. This contains the text of the bible, but also has lots of supplemental information sprinkled throughout - such as introductions to the books, sections that explain answers to life's questions, life principles, life lessons, etc. There are bits of color and things that help break up the pages and make it easy to navigate and distinguish between the sections. Another thing to note, the pages are thin, but not as thin as many other bibles like this. This, coupled with the fact that the font is a good size, make this one easy to read than some others I have encountered. I am giving this 5 stars because it is a fantastic package and a really nice price. The only way I would improve it would be a real leather cover, but that would make it not as affordable so this is an acceptable trade off.
There's something for everyone in this Bible.
This is a Bible that will work well for those new to religion or well versed. Most of this Bible is spent weaving in life lessons and broken down portions of traditional Bibles, in a simplified, straight forward manner. For those who are new to religion, this Bible will help simplify the word of God. For those well versed, this Bible will likely serve as a more inspirational Word to them. However, regardless of your background or experiences, if religion plays a part in your life, this is a wonderful Bible to have. It's beautiful to look at and is well constructed. This is a wonderful Bible to give as a gift. Highly recommended 5 stars Cheers!
Great Bible!
I absolutely love the feel of this Bible. I know I should probably start this review with what is inside of the book--but this is the most comfortable feeling Bible I have ever held. It just feels good in my hands and it is easy to hold. It also lays flat when it is placed open on a table or desk. The thumb indexes along the side of the Bible make it easy to find a specific book without having to flip through the many pages. As for the typeface size and readability: for the past five years I have needed to wear reading glasses for every book I read. I also need to wear them for this book--but with them on it is very easy to read. Easier than my other bibles. I normally read the New American Bible. I had not heard of Charles F. Stanley before I got this book. I am finding his Life Principles, Answers to Life's Questions, and What the Bible Says very helpful. The "Life Lessons" found on the bottom of almost every page is a nice addition. Overall, this is a great bible!
not a study Bible but it has a lot of good thoughts
I assumed this would be a study Bible, but it's not as much a study Bible as that it tries to help you understand the ideas of the Bible with mini application lessons. It's almost like it has a lot of little sermons to go along with the passages. It also has a decent amount of maps and stuff. There are a lot of footnotes that are mainly cross referencing and giving similar words to help you understand. I think I'd really like if they made a study Bible that had the extras in this. I think the application lessons would complement the background that a study Bible gives. Also, even though this has a lot of extras the font is still a good size.
Wonderful
This is a wonderful Bible and I am glad to have it as my reference. I love the life principles that make up this Bible from Dr. Stanley. It helps me so much to understand what I am reading and give it perspective so I can apply it to my life now. I go straight to those pages and then read the passages so I understand it all better. Also at the bottom of the pages are footnotes that explain many individual passages. It is a beautiful Bible. It is thick so it can feel a little cumbersome but it is still very portable and one you could take to church with you. I believe I will use this one more than any other because I like the guidance in there so much. It would make a great gift and does have a page in the front for presenting it to someone. I love this Bible and it's a great reference for your walk in faith.
Good ole Bible
I never heard of this author before. So it was neat being able to browse through the life principles and the advice given at that. The one thing that would throw me off is it would be a break in the section for the life principle and then just resume back to the chapter in the Bible. I don’t know if that makes sense what I’m trying to convey. I like everything sequential without interruption. I would feel more comfortable if it was at the end of the chapter of the Bible reading to go over the life principle. Anywho, I received the burgundy version ( was supposed to be black) and it’s nice faux leatherette type of Bible overall.
Great Study Bible
This is a really nice study Bible. I appreciate all the commentary and maps provided in the text. It also has tabs to help you find the book you are looking for. The cover is also a nice color and has a good quality. I was looking for a good study Bible and this one fit the bill. I would highly recommend and would also recommend as a gift.
Makes the bible more relevant
I have two NKJV Bibles by the publisher Thomas Nelson. I really like this version featuring Charles Stanley's insights and commentary. The information about the authors of the Bibles books, the history, the maps and the background setting up the stories all give a grounded realism to these ancient words. The dual bookmarks and tab indexing are appreciated conveniences. The only thing I don't like is the thinness of the pages. They are so thin that the printing on the back side of the pages shows through and can be distracting.
Nice Features, Don't Agree with All the Commentary
The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible is such a nice quality. I love the cover, the pages, the print, and the thumb index tabs. I wanted to give my teen son a grown-up version of the Bible. He has had young reader versions but I thought the NKJV would be a perfect Bible for him. Usually, when you hear scriptures quoted, they are in King James but the King James can be so hard for teens and children to understand. The New King James is the perfect solution to that. The commentary is by Charles Stanley which I don’t agree with some (or a lot) of insights but the Bible itself is such good quality and has such good features that I can recommend it for the Bible part itself.
Great for your reference library or for a gift.
This bible is beautifully made. The cover and binding are secure and it has a beauty one would desire in a treasured book. The 30 Life Principles published are clear and well researched. Each has a number of references to study what the Bible says about the subject, answers to questions many people have about it, and biblical examples of people living through that principle. Dr. Stanley is a particular hero of my mother’s and this was a great gift to her. She finds his writing is deep, insightful, and comforting.
Beautiful bible with useful notes - relatable
This bible is beautiful. Pages are soft and crisp and font is dark, very readable. Cover is thick and sturdy, leather like material. I enjoy the notes and insights from the author. Puts everything into perspective and it’s much more relatable. Very inspiring. I love randomly opening and reading whatever is on that page.
Beautiful Bible
This is a beautiful Bible that is a pleasure to own. It is a New King James Version and includes some commentary. The books of the Bible are easy to access with the notches included. It makes it very easy to flip to the book you are looking for in the Bible. The leather cover is extremely nice and the gold foil on the end of pages makes it very attractive. Overall, a wonderful Bible that will help you access information in it easily.
Easy on the eyes! Great for the heart!
This Bible is very easy on the eyes—and I am a person who has everything in large print! I love Dr. Stanley’s commentary. He is direct and does not use a lot of theological terminology. He is not sentimental—but does teach God’s love in a way that moves your heart! It is a Bible everyone can understand and draw strength and encouragement from.
This Charles Stanley Life Principles Bible is so easy to understand and well presented.
I've always listened to Charles Stanley and was so pleased to find his Life Principles Bible, based on the King James Edition Charles makes the Bible easy to understand and a pleasure to read. The Leather look cover inside the hard cardboard box makes this a great gift so buy extras.
I Recommend
Charles Stanley is a trusted pastor and I enjoy anything with his name on it. The print is easy to read and the book is made of great quality materials. I highly recommend this Bible.
So nice
This truly is such a nice, high quality Bible. It is a great weight, font is a good size, and the tabs make finding what you need so much easier.
