Rise Of The King (Checkmate Series Book 5)

I know I’ve said before in my reviews of Emilia’s books how amazing every single one of them is. I’ve even said that she’s outdone herself over and over again. But this book, Rise Of The King, may be her best yet. The mystery she held out on us from the end of Till The Sun Dies has made this book extra special & extra anticipated. To keep the massive secret of who the King is (also referred to by The Crew as #5), that created so much suspense for the release day. And on release day, not a soul was disappointed 🥰. The intense roller coaster ride on this one was phenomenal. All the mystery & trying to solve the mystery before you get to the end was epic. I’m talking, so much mystery, you want to take notes while reading. Emilia’s caliber of writing is so extraordinarily good, you have to pay attention to every detail, because it may clue you in to what may happen 3 books from now. When I tell you she has an amazing gift, I truly mean it. This book makes you fall in love all over again with people you were never supposed to love. And when your previous loves, your one true love, gets a very short mention, it just warms your heart and makes you smile. (At least it made me smile) Emilia, I cannot tell you how much I love you & your Roller Town characters. You may already know, but it definitely warrants a reminder after this one. Well done my friend, you have made it!!

I’ve read all of Emilia’s books. This was by far the one I have most anticipated. It did not disappoint. There were a few twists/bombs per Emilia’s style. I feel like so many questions were finally answered. The banter between J and Sophia was the best. The gummy worms, the tutu, the trashcan 😂 All of it. I couldn’t get enough.

Start at the beginning with the Rollin On Series! Should read all of the Series to understand the characters. Checkmate is grittier, darker but oh, so much more! While the stories might come across as being all about “hot men and women in intimate situations and dropping of the “*f*” bomb…the reality is that the characters and storytelling are all about the meaning of Family, Loyalty and Love. Then re-read all of them again and maybe even a third time - because Emilia Finn is a brilliant, sneaky author! She is an author that values and respects all the roles that men and women have to maneuver through in our social world today; her perspective is invaluable. The stories won’t solve all the world’s problems but makes the burden lighter while we try to. Original Subject Line of “first review”: Laugh & Cry, Scream & Shout! ...or more! I'm a voracious, very eclectic reader. Literally Fantasy, Space Science Fiction, Military, Law Enforcement Thrillers/Mysteries to Regency and the Paranormal. Throw in Classic Darcy and Anne of Green Gables. Yes, I'm current on the Outlander novels. My family has been involved in law enforcement, the military and martial arts. Emilia covers it all! I started with Pawns In The Bishop’s Game of the Checkmate Series and followed with the Rollin On Series when I realized Rollin started it all!. On to the Survivor Series to get the whole picture. l love, love the Rollin On Crew. But Pawns ... Kane ... well.. Sealed the deal! OMG! I'm re-reading all the series' before reading Checkmate’s Rise Of The King. Laughing and crying and seeing so much more in the characters and storytelling. Ya know it’s bad when I’m following the author on Face Book. Five stars for them all! I don't look for editing errors but do blink a few times when I come across them. The author works with a great group of people to ensure a smooth read. There are some amazing, gifted writers out there who deserve to have their visions and stories told. (Maybe I'd better hurry up in my re-reading (going for a 4th re-read of whole series.)but wanted to leave this review before I was buried in the stories again.) There are only a few authors that I sincerely want to see in every format-hardbound to audio. This author is one I hope to see in those other formats. These novels do contain mature subject matter, sexual content, violence, profanity, and scenes that may trigger strong feelings. If not for the E-reader our house would be wall-to-wall books with narrow pathways. Thanks to Kindle Unlimited or we'd be eating Ramen and drinking only water!

This whole series is amazing, but this one was explosive and had everything you could want all in one book! Get ready to have your heart racing and feel every emotion possible! Love, love , love this book!!

She grabs my attention from the first page til the last page.... The story line flows and is spicy enough to keep me reading...i cannot get enough of her books....i almost cried when the book finished just because it finished....she need a bunch more chapters to keep me happy!!! I love Emilia Finn's books!!!!

Emilia can write badass ladies like no other! The action is non-stop, the feels are intense and the romance is silly and sexy (which is my favorite kind). Love. Love. Love this book

Emilia Finn has done it again! Drawn me into the lives of her characters, made me laugh, cry, be mad, be sad, be happy. A couple of great twists, in a well written story. READ THIS BOOK! But if you want to get the most out of it, read at least the other Checkmate books first. (And read the rest of her books because they are just that good!!)

Sad to see Bishop, and Ang, Eric, Spence, the twins, Riley and Andi go. There are so many more stories in my head for some of these background characters that I’m hoping Emilia eventually writes about. Awesome series. Checkmate

Just know this book is AMAZING!! The suspense for everyone that was waiting for this release was insane. Emilia is an evil genius and I love all of her books so much. But Sophia is my hero. Hands down she is goals now because she's one of the most badass characters in any series I've read ever! You're amazing Emilia! Thank you for being such an incredible person and author!!

The Bish Effect is real y'all 😍!! I want more! But then again, I always do.... Emilia Finn is a master character & story builder. The heart, the laughter, the suspense & surprises, the love ... She’s done it again! Emilia Finn is perfect at sculpting our little world of rollertown and making us fall in love over and over again. Giving us Jay and Sophia’s story in utter perfection, filling in the gaps of time missing from other books making the book a page turner from the very beginning. A fantastic book from beginning to end, we get to know Sophia and Jay on their own before diving back into the Checkmate world. Reuniting the Bishop boys and giving us the ending we didn’t know we needed it’s an absolute must read!

This was exactly the book I wanted it to be! Emilia Finn did not disappoint! It's hard when you are pining for a dead man but sometimes the dead rise again! Can it be? I was so excited to see the three words I've been hoping for : " I'm Jay Bishop. "! This one was worth waiting for! Thank you Emilia!

I have read every book Emilia has written and once again she hasn’t disappointed! Emilia writes of love, friendship, family, and a little angst thrown in for good measure. Some topics are tough to read but are so relevant. I encourage anyone who enjoys romance, suspense, tears, twists and turns, laughter and family-first to read everything Emilia writes.

This book was excellent!! Emilia never fails to deliver she gives you everything you could want in her books laugh out loud moments suspense and hot steamy scenes what more could you ask for except give me more!! I can't wait to finish this series and get Checkmate #8 I'm waiting patiently so if you haven't started this series now is the time don't wait I promise you won't be disappointed!! Happy reading

What can I say about this book without posting spoilers? It was just everything. It made me cry, it made me laugh and the jokes about ballerinas was epic. Buy this book read all of them. You will not waste your money. Emilia Finn you are a brilliant genius and I hope that the next book comes out soon.

OMG! Rise of the King was amazing! Emilia has done it again. This is her best book to date. The twists and turns are fantastic and keep you guessing. Sophia and her man are one of my favorite Checkmate couples. I absolutely adore them and love their banter and chemistry. I can’t recommend this book enough, I need more than 5 stars.

Emilia writes as if she's experienced every event and emotion. Her details paint a vivid picture, sucking you into the story, causing you to lose sleep, miss work, and not feed your family because you don't want to stop reading. The dialog is funny and each book reveals secrets from previous books in the series. Thank you Emilia, for the entertainment!

I have enjoyed the Roller series, Survivor series, and the Checkmate series. This book is My FAVORITE! Jay and Sophia took Bobby and Kit’s place as my favorite couple.

Truly my favourite story in all the Checkmate series and I love all of them. If you love badass women, this is def for you. I can totally relate to Sophia's character and I absolutely adore Jay's. In keeping with when Jay was introduced before, his character remained true but we saw the sweet side on this book. I really enjoyed this. Definitely couldn't out this one down.

Surprise!! This book had me at first and then there was shock, twists, turns, and an awesome journey. Checkmate series is amazing, give it a go but start on book 1.

This book was everything I hoped for and much more! I love Jay’s sass, focus on his mission, appetite, and his silly jokes. I enjoyed the banter he has with Sophia. They make a great pairing. Sophia is not only a beautiful ballerina, but smart as hell. I love that she eats as much as Jay. Lots of surprises! I read the entire book within 24 hours of it coming out!

I could see the twists coming (unlike the previous books) but that didn't change how I felt about it. I was waiting for this story to come along, ever since book 1. I absolutely love how the series slightly overlaps each book in the beginning but then continues the stories. I wish more series did that. I look fwd to the next book!

I keep coming back for more because Emilia continues to turn out quality books that draw you in and keep you turning the pages. Do yourself a favor and read ALL of Emilia's books.

I love how Sophia is literally the female version of Jay. They were made for each other, and I'm so glad that the Bishop brothers were reconnected.

This is the fourth Emilia Fin book I’ve read, second I’ve gotten to the halfway mark and had to drop. Nothing I hate more than buying a book, or even reading a free one that’s got so many 5 stars and it’s like homework to read. First, let me say I really enjoyed the first Checkmate book—adored Kane and Jess. I read book two to get right into the series because I felt for Laine, but she and Angelo wore me out. I don’t want to bog down with a review for that one, which I finished. But the third book I tried of Emilias was the Rollin one. Couldn’t stand it so I quit. Now I came here, knowing before I started who John Hamilton was. So I wanted to hopefully connect with this and find out what happened. I don’t know if I’m just aware of what are supposed to be plot twist or if they’re obvious to everyone. ‘Cause I had the mystery characters figured out within the first few chapters. It was painful to read how dumb “John” was. How he didn’t care how much he was being used. I get protecting loved ones, but honestly, it’s dumb for him to think *blank* needs his protection. A simple phone call would’ve taken care of all that. But no. I felt his character wasn’t genuine, and that’s probably one of the hardest things to work with. It’s like you can feel the way he’s supposed to be similar to *blank* but efforts are made to give him his own character, and they fall flat. Then there’s Sophia. For the life of me, I couldn’t stand her. She was more genuine, but I felt heartless for her situation because of how selfish she was to succeed at her own vendetta. I get it, I really do. She has reasons and they’re understandable, but she’s still there for herself first. So, between the easy to guess bad guy to the crazy yet dumb actions, and unlikable anti-heroine?? I am giving up. This just might be one of those authors where I like one book but the other characters or storylines fall flat. It might have been easier, too, if inner monologue every scene that’s supposed to be intense is them reflecting on the past or their sudden feelings when they never had interest. But, I’m the minority by a landslide, so decide for yourself. I’ll just say if you struggled with the other books like I did, maybe try the sample or come back to this author later. And that’s the only reason to leave a bad review or else it gets washed out by die hard fans, and not everyone can afford to spend or waste time.

This book is one of those rare gems that delivers on all fronts, including meeting or exceeding your expectations on what the story should entail and leaving you completely satisfied with the outcome. I've said it once and I'll continue to say it, Emilia Finn writes a heck of a story. This is a story about "John" and Sophia, who are not who you think they are, but exactly who you want them to be (if that makes any sense). There isn't much I can say about the plot without giving away the best parts of the story, but suffice to say that if you've read the other books in this series (and you really need to have to read, at minimum, the rest of the Checkmate series first to truly enjoy this story - but you really SHOULD read from very beginning w/ Rollin' On Book 1 for maximum enjoyment) this is the book you've been waiting for. And the best thing is it delivers MONUMENTALLY. Like the previous Checkmate books, the events that transpired in Book 1 are the catalyst for the main conflicts in this story, but unlike the others this one helps move us into the "present day". All your favorites from the previous books, Kane, Jess, Ang, etc. make an appearance. There are little homage's to previous events & inside jokes that are fun to discover, as well as reveals that make things that occurred in the other book clearer.

This is the first book I've read of Emilia Finn's and it certainly won't be the last! Unfortunately, I read the series out of order because I thought it would be a good standalone but now I am wondering what character development I missed prior to Jay's story here. I loved every second of this book! It was enrapturing! The surprise twist which occurs *fairly* early in the book shocked me so much I had to put down the Kindle and laugh at myself for not figuring it out sooner - you got me, Ms. Finn! Sophia, well. I'm just going to call her my book girlfriend, because her character was that incredible, intriguing, downright beguiling. She's who I want to be when I grow up. Confession: I'm already grown up but I still want to be her! Jay- not your typical book boyfriend, but he does what is necessary and acts in the grey area, not in black and white. Supporting characters were introduced late in the story though perhaps they were intro'd in previous novels? They were well-written, but a little hard to keep track of the sudden influx of characters after so much of the novel being based around two people and Ace. That is literally my only complaint. I loved the strong females - the girl power! Yes! I will read this one again, I liked it so much. In fact, it really shouldn't be read via Kindle Unlimited. You should just 1 click it and buy this baby because it was 100% pure entertainment and will make you forget everything outside of Jay's fictional world. The writing was well done, too, and I found very few grammatical errors. Altogether...just STELLAR. I will recommend to friends and I may have to become a hermit for a while until I catch up on every other book of Ms. Finn's! You can't go wrong with this book. Happy reading!

I’ve read every book and novella Emilia has released and all of them have been awesome! This book is hands down beyond amazing. I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything for future readers... so suffice it to say this had me up until 2:30 am to finish the night it released. It was a rollercoaster of OMG moments as various elements of the story came out as I read. The ending is a huge payoff to readers of the Rollers/Survivors/Checkmate series. Emilia Finn is at the top of my must read list. Don’t second guess reading this book, but start at the beginning and enjoy the obsessive ride. It’s SO worth it!!

There are some that have to fall to rise again. Then there are those who will not fall, just continue to rise until they have become the unstoppable force they were meant to be. I started reading Emilia Finn when I snagged the first Rollin series book. I felt like I was knocked out with a swift left hook (see what I did there?) Each book has a way of sucking the reader in. But this one. Wow! So much power, passion, hatred, and strength. I love seeing the characters from both the Checkmate series and the Rollin series continue in this book. By far one of the best books I have read by Emilia. If you have not read the previous Checkmate or Rollin books, I am forewarning you, YOU MUST! Not only because you will understand the later books better but because all of these characters become your family. You ache when they ache, you cry when they cry, you laugh when they laugh, you love when they love, and yes you crawl through putrid-infested-hatred-filled characters when they do. But that is what makes Emilia Finn such a phenomenal author. She totally gives you the feels!

Mind blown. This book has everything I love in a great book. Secrets. Twists. Comedy. Angst. Drama. Passion. Anger. Revenge. Love. Brotherhood. Family. Friendship. More twists. I want to go back in and live in this book forever, it was so incredibly good. I’ve always loved the world Emilia created; she’s yet to write a character that I didn’t connect with or fall in love with. But this book, this family, is truly special. I don’t want my review to give anything away....other than to say that it is my favorite read of 2019.

Prepare to be mind blown. 🤯 Seriously. I’m not kidding. I know this book has been kept under wraps by Emilia Finn, and after reading it, jear desus, do I understand why. You HAVE TO go in blind. Just trust me on that. Rise of the King has such a huge impact on both the entire Checkmate series AND your heart. This will probably be the shortest I’ve ever rambled on about any of Emilia’s books but I want to not even give the tiniest of details here. Honestly the most I can say is that Sophia is hands down one of the greatest heroines I have ever read and her man is equally as incredible. Every thing about their story is more. More romance, more heat, more action, more suspense, more humor. I could go on and on for days about how seamlessly these two go from making you laugh your head off to crying your eyes out. Or how the sweetness should contradict the intensity of their story but instead just it just adds another layer of awesome.

I've read all the books in this series so far, and while each one was good and added a piece to the puzzle, this one, Rise of the King, is the culmination of and is the best of them all! I love me a good and dirty romance story, full of "monster f-ing", which is how book 1 starts. But what drew me in and kept me coming back for more, is that this series evolved into so much more - the suspension of a murderer mystery, the thrill of an action/adventure, the emotion of a drama, and then some! Oddly, this book is written as if it's the end, but there are several more books after it. So while my curiosity is peaked, it's hard to believe they will stand up to this one - I sure hope they do!

There aren't many authors and/or series that I actively stalk the next in the series. Characters that I speak about as though they are real and could walk up to me and either make me want to be their best friend or the woman of their dreams. Emilia Finn has created a world in these books that does all of the above. Her characters are deeply thought out and are intricate, real, hilarious at times, and equally heartbreaking at times. This book was absolutely no different. It's the culmination of months of her fan's wildly curious questions and speculations and it was everything I hoped that it would be. I won't spoil anything in this review, but suffice to say that the King is everything I wanted him to be and his Sophia is a for real badass in her own right. Revisiting Kane and Ang and the twins, and getting to know Eric and Spence a little better was so amazing! I highly recommend that you read this, but only after starting from the very beginning with Bobby and Kit. I promise, you won't regret taking the time to fully immerse yourself in Roller Town and get to know it's residents! Wow! Way to bring it around. Emilia Finn has wound her way into my heart as my now favorite author. Her stories lead me on such an emotional rollercoaster. Sadness, elation, fear, strength, anger, hysteria, but most of all love! Strong, alpha male characters, stronger female counterparts! I feel emotionally invested in this family, and a little in love with a few of those afore mentioned alpha males! I find myself, frequently, looking at the "percentage read" as I go along because I'm afraid it will end all too soon! I lay my tablet down, try to find something to busy myself, only to come back and power read through the rest because I can't NOT finish it! If you have yet to experience the phenomenon that is Emilia Finn, then I beg of you go to the becoming, start with The Rollers and savor all their stories! Your welcome! Thank you Emilia for your fantastical gift! No pressure, but I cannot wait for the next gen!

Holy crap, where do I start? So, I started reading a 6:00 p.m., that was mistake #1. I couldn't put this freakin book down! 11:55 p.m. and i finished it, but then I desperately wanted to talk about it! Mistake #2 is reading it before my partner in crime could, now I have to hold in all the juicy secrets, and I can't wait! I have to read it again. Immediately. Emilia Finn is a gifted author whose writing pulls you in and holds you tight all through the book. This book may be her best yet. Laugh out loud funny, and twist that stop you in you're tracks. You will love this book, promise!!

For the first 75% of the book I just wasn't sure if it was reading. I figured out who Ace was early on but other than that nothing really happened besides a couple of killings. Now as far as the last 25% that was a whole different story. The top bad guy I didn't figure out. It was nice to see the brothers together again. Sophia is so strong for crying out loud I kind of want to marry her. In my eyes she's too dog and pulling all the strings it's good to see her get a happy ending and justice.

Emilia Finn can write. The writing is so great that you start believing these people are your friends/family. John D. Hamilton is fierce not scared to do what needs to be done. Underneath it all the REAL him is a silly goofy, loveable, crazy, loyal and fun guy with bad jokes. Sophia is a strong, hard, super smart woman that doesn’t need a man to protect her because she can protect herself. She has a soft heart for the people she loves. Just don’t touch her food. I strongly urge everyone to read ALL of Emilia Finn books. You become more connected to the characters when you read them in order.

I absolutely love Jay and Sophia's dynamic. They have great chemistry and make an awesome couple. Their banter and emotional connection was amazing. I loved listening to their conversations and jokes. They are so good together. Jay never loses his funny, joking personality even though he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Sophia has been my favorite heroine so far! I didn't think I could like anyone more than Jess, but Sophia is badass. Her and Jay make the best couple.

If you can’t read this book from start to finish in one sitting wait til you can. Once you start you won’t be able to stop. One of Emilia’s best kept secrets ever. This book was highly anticipated and she had a lot to live up to with this story. She put it all on the line and captivated me from the get go and she definitely did not disappoint. Pulled from the ashes “John” had nothing to lose except the one person he loved. “Ace” have everything to gain since losing the one person she loved.

OMG! This book is everything!! I don’t want to give away any of its secrets, but Emilia Finn hit this one out of the park, as I figured she would!! I’ve been on the edge of my seat as I read it straight through! So many exciting twists, emotions, laughs! Seriously amazing! I’m probably going to do an immediate reread, just to see what I missed!! Rise Of The King will blow your mind in all the good ways. Finn gives us humor, angst, suspense, mystery, tears and so much more. I am loving this series and it's crazy characters. I will not tell you more because this book is meant to be read without knowing the spoilers. I highly recommend Reading this series but you must read it in order. You will truly appreciate Rise Of The King if you have read Pawn in a Bishop's Game... and then all about Riley Cruz before you hit the King. Happy Reading!!

I don't know how Emilia Finn spins the incredible stories she writes as fast as she does, but we are incredibly lucky to be recipients of her genius. Funny, heart wrenching, suspenseful, did I say funny?? She knocks it out of the park every time. READ HER BOOKS! ASAP!!

I read this book then immediately returned to the beginning and read it again it was soooo good. I just didn’t want it to end. The back and forth between the characters are priceless. I laughed and I cried like a baby. I really love all of this authors style/books. There are some triggers for some in this book, that being said. Just when I think it can’t get any better, she knocks it outta the ballpark. Just read it!

I couldn’t put the book down. There was always mystery around the Bishops, and you finally get to know more about them and their past in this book, and what a shocking conclusion! I think I’m in love with Jay and his attitude. I hope there will be more with all the characters as they give you that dose of badassary alpha male everyone craves, but with the the mix of tough, kick butt strong women who bring them to their knees and make them go back for more.

This book is about Jay and Sophia’s story. It’s a book full of action and a lot of passion. It’s also full of twists and unexpected situations! Wow! It was a rollercoaster , but the really awesome kind. I also enjoyed the fact it was not another cliffhanger! This book totally blew my mind and made Jay my new Book Boyfriend. I definitely love Emilia Finn’s writing style and her series are the best!

The long awaited rise of the King did not disappoint! What an emotional rollercoaster Emilia has taken us for a ride on again! This book answeres so many questions I'm sure you will have too if you have read all of the other books. I love how she brings our rollers and survives into the new books as well. We have all fallen in love with these characters and she only continues to let us into their lives. I am already waiting on the edge of my seat for the release of the next on this series. I know and have full faith it will be even better than the last!

This book has been one book I was anticipating but didn’t realize how much I was actually waiting for it. If you’ve kept up with the series, you have no idea who the King is or what’s his role. Once all the pieces start getting put together it’s none stop from there. So far one of my favorite books of the series. It has the emotional roller coaster that the author loves to put her fans on. You fall even more in love with all the characters and you won’t want to stop reading.

Emilia continues to kill it with her books, characters, and all the feels. She paints an incredible story for #5 and Ace. You will cheer, cry, laugh (a lot) and want to reread this book (as well as her other books). You will cheer bad guys when they meet their demise and suddenly want to eat gummy worms like they are going out of style. Family, friends, and love are abundant in her stories and it continues with strong ties in this one, too. You won't be able to stop reading once you start!! (fair warning).

I had plans for today. I really did. Big ones. But as soon as I saw that this book was available, all those plans were secondary. Emilia did a masterful job, again. One of her strengths is writing original story lines that don’t follow the same patterns as your traditional story lines. I’ve been waiting for this book for so long and it did not disappoint. I strongly encourage readers to start at the beginning of the series. While it can be read as a standalone, you’ll be more emotionally invested and the book will have greater meaning if you read the series in order.

I just knew it when I emailed you the other day, I hoped so much that it was who I figured the book was leaning towards. Of coarse you wouldn’t admit it when I was trying to get a hint. This book is awesome, I don’t want to let all these people go. Find some way to keep going with some of the other characters, I know you can do it. J is so raunchy and ironically charming simultaneously. He is born and bred muscle with the utmost skill. Ace is genius level smart and leads with an iron fist. Soph is sassy and graceful. Together they make a heck of a team. Oooh, the events in this tale! I honestly am not sure which book or man i like more- not that you could make a move 'cause their women are just as lethal (and a bit on the crazy side).

OMG! I don’t have words to describe this book. It’s perfect. It’s what I’ve been hoping for for months! The anticipation was painful but this book is wildly amazing! I am so in love with these characters and am literally overwhelmed with how well this story was written and how Ms. Finn tied soooo many things together. I cannot wait to re-read the entire Bishop series to see all the hidden clues!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!

So sad this series has ended! Happy to say I loved all the twists and turns. Kept me riveted, couldnt put down my kindle. The humor was spot on, had me laughing in lots of places. And i just need to mention to Emilia that the best line in this series was in Pawns in Bishop's Game, Chapter 40 "Plop a Cubs hat on my head." Thank you for that! 💙🐻⚾️

I don’t want to give much away, so all I will say is this is a MUST READ! While you can read it as a stand-alone, I truly believe you should read the other books Emilia has written (especially Checkmate Series). This book, this story, it lived up to all the hype. It made me laugh, had incredibly steamy scenes, had an incredly strong female character and made me cry. I love this story so very much, and I know anyone else who read it will as well. this is fighting for the top spot of the Checkmate Series for me. It might be a tie. Love love love!

Wow wow wow. That was so freaking good! I just devoured this whole book in one sitting. Now I’m hungry, the kids are up an hour past bedtime, and I have a lot of neglected cleaning. All totally worth it.

I find it very hard to keep my interest in a series beyond three books, it feels like the stories start to get recycled but I have never felt that way with an Emilia Finn series. If you’re interested in reading this book don’t start here! Go to Pawn’s in the Bishops Game, or better yet start with the The Rollin On Series. You won’t regret it!

OMG YES!! Rise of the King was EVERYTHING I wanted and more!! This was the book I didn't know I wanted until I saw the teasers. You must read the first fours books first but then you will, you MUST read this book. No spoilers but Emilia Finn gives you what you want with a side of "oh damn didn't see that coming" and a few extras that make this book amazingly awesome. I loved the H and h, they were over top crazy and fun to read. Well done, thank you.

Love this book and this series. Emilia Fin has become my favorite romance author. I raced through all her series and then had to patiently wait for the release of this book. It was worth the wait. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters. Live in their world as you read and feel hereafter when you finish because you love their world so much. You laugh, love, cry and are on the edge of you seat reading this book. Can’t wait for the next installment!!

The gang is all together again! The mystery is solved although figuring out who CAB was wasn't too difficult. Saw it coming at the beginning. I'm just so happy Jay found his slice of happiness, the brothers are reunited and Cruz is okay. After all these stories, Kane is still my fave. I still think this series is better than the Rollin series simply because there's enough story to keep up with the romance. One doesn't over power the other. A great series!

So many moments of tension. I do love the characters in this book so much. The romance scenes are hot and heavy. I loved it. Possible SPOILER AHEAD.... The identity of CAB drug out a little too long especially because readers already have an accurate guess to his identity.

Spoiler Alert! The main man comes back in a big way to help save the hit on his brother’s life! He has help and it’s one of the most powerful, intriguing, badass, women on the planet. It is an absolute must read but start at the beginning of the Checkmate series and you’ll see why women are falling in love with these brothers!

Such a good read!! No spoilers here, but this book is definitely worth your time, as is all Emilia Finn books. Please, please please, if you have not already done so, start with The Rollin On series and then move through the books in order. It makes them that much more AWESOME!!!

Ace has been pulling the strings for months helping John D Hamilton as he is known as to find targets in the child trafficking ring and take them out. It all goes well, until the top is blown off. This book answered a lot of questions left unanswered in other books. Tied it all up with a nice bow. Loved it.

I was hoping. I was sooooo hoping that what I read inKane’s book wasn’t the end. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. I’ve cried for him. I mourned him a little. I couldn’t stop thinking about him and wishing I knew more about him cuz he sounded kinda cool in Kane’s book. These stories never disappoint. Love! Love! Love!

Great story packed with just the right balance of plot, steam and action. As usual with this author I found myself laughing out loud a time or two. The Bishop brothers are my favorite, sexy goofy fun hot book boyfriends!!! PS I'm really looking forward to reading Eric's story when that comes out... ;)

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this since I saw the release date and like every other book of Emilias, once I started I couldn’t put it down! I literally stayed up until morning to finish it and I have no regrets! It was so good and had a big plot twist you’d never see coming!! I cannot wait for the next book! Checkmate series have been by far my fave series!!!

It’s a full story with like able characters. Ace is in charge and on a mission of vengeance for Ellie. Ace found Jay, saved his life and now they have a common goal to take down the people stealing girls and selling them. Jay also is trying to protect his brother Kane. Read On!

Emilia is my overall favorite author! I won’t say much about the book because I don’t want to give away spoilers. But you won’t be disappointed in this book or any of her other books. She’s an amazing writer. You get completely sucked in and you don’t want to come up for air while you’re reading. I don’t write a lot of reviews so you know it has to be outstanding if you see a review from me!

Omg I loved it. This whole series is just awesome. Sure hope your writing a new series that holds all our attention. I recommend this series 100%… Can start at the Rollin on series then progress to the Survivor Series then finally but not least the Checkmate series. Or just the Checkmate. The suspense is amazing. I discovered Emilia's books a few weeks ago and i churned through everything at speed. From the Rollin series to Checkmate i have loved all the stories. If you've not read Emilia's books before i recommend you go back and start at the beginning. So good.

Checkmate #5, Rise of the King, was 100% worth the wait! Just when you think you've figured it out, BAM! Another twist or turn and you shut your pie hole and keep reading. I don't know how Emilia does it but I'm just glad she can and does. This series, actually the entire 3 series (so far) are completely worth your time and money. Do yourself a favor and just jump in and prepare for the best ride of your life and then come join the crew for moral/mental/emotional support. We'll be there.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I love these books and the characters. I feel like I know them and am so invested in their stories. Not only does Emilia write poignantly, she is funny, she is steamy, and her book make you feel emotionally invested. I don’t want to give anything away but all I can say is suspense, fun, action, drama, and sex! Can’t beat it.

Spoiler warning! Jay is still alive and the heroine is kick-ass. This is such a great conclusion to the Bishop brothers. Jay is so funny and immature but honest. I loved this story and series. The author touched on a serious issue such as the sex trafficking trade but gave us a happy ending, something we know doesn't happen enough in the real world. Great read.

Well she did it again. If this is your first Emilia Finn book, you better buckle up buttercup! There's mystery and romance, theres excitement and heartbreak. Once you start, you might not be able to stop. I've read them all, and this may be my favorite.

I have loved this series, the interactions between all the friends and family. Then the humorous and tear jerking moments. This book in particular had a lot of surprises throughout it. I am looking forward to the next book by Emilia.

Checkmate #5 is an amazing continuation of a multi-series world created by Emilia Finn. This book was beautiful. I teared up, I laughed a lot and fell in love with the main characters. And loved seeing characters from previous books.

Please, also read the author's Rollin On series and The Survivor series. The Checkmate series seems to wrap it up. I couldn't help but binge read all of them. I'm not going to spoil it for you. But in the most simplest of terms and for the most important message, this book and the combined and related series are stories of "Yes, you CAN..." . Sure, the sex is awesome, but pay attention to the relationships. Between lovers, friends, not friends, and how you think of yourself. Dont be surprised if you feel stronger after reading.

Ace has kicked ass and has saved the day for everyone!!! Great writing job story line head true to the rest of the stores and got the bad guy!! Must read I’m now t giving the story away !

I love this series, and the two series leading up to this one. Slightly predictable, but never disappointing. Every book drops hints that will lead to another book, but it’s not too many that you forget the whos and the whats.

I loved this book. The entire series is one of my favorite. The author's writing style is so engaging. Characters well rounded, dialogue excellent and of course plenty of hot, steamy romance.

It all about love and feminism. Amazing how the author calls out biases and talks about love in same breath. Amazing hero and heroine who eat gummy worms, dance and kill. Amazing example of beauty and brains. Best book of the series but you have to read the others first to fall in love with this one.

I don't know how she does it, but each book of Emilia's gets better and better. Rise of the king had everything I could hope for for #5. Sophia is so amazing and she fits so well into the storyline. I wish i could write more, but won't spoil it for yall. Just read it, that's all i can say.

Emilia Finn nails it out of the park again. I love her writing, plot, characters... just absolutely everything. I read a ton of romance novels and this author is absolutely the Gold Standard.

I absolutely loved book 1. Loved it. I was excited to read this and wish I hadn’t. The story is fine, I guess. The writing is good. Nothing against the author. I just... hated the heroine so much. She was awful, selfish and annoying. And “John” was just stupid. I’ll just pretend the series ended after the first two books and re-read them to get my Kane fix :)

After months of speculation and theories we finally have some answers and I wasn’t disappointed. I have nothing bad to say about any of Emilia’s books. She never ceases to amaze me. Her story lines are always fresh and while we may be reading about a particular couple she always brings in some of the characters from her other books. This book was definitely worth the wait.

Not gonna tell ya, you have to read it for yourself. But, this is probably one of the funniest and funnest of Emilia's books. So worth the suspense.

I don’t know how you do it EVERY SINGLE TIME! I think to myself this one can’t be better than the last book and EVERY TIME you prove me wrong! This book had me in confusion, tears, anger, laughter, and melted my heart as always! Sooooo Sooooo Good!

Sad there are only two books left in the series! Looking forward to how the plot twists next. Love the action in the books.

Emilia Finn is by far the most talented author I've ever read. Her books are amazing from start to finish, every page is one of a kind. I fell in love with her books and this one is no exception. This book is on fire!

This is another great book in this series, I truly did not believe it could be as good as the others but Emilia Finn always delivers. Read this series and go back and read her other series because she is seriously the best. No spoilers here, just read the book.

By now you just love this world and your invested, so strap in and get ready for the ride. I think this was the most action packed of the series. Yes even more than the first!

I couldn’t wait to read Jay’s story and it did not disappoint.... This book picks up where all the other books left off healed my heart that Jay didn’t die and he got his HEA with a new family and the love of his life.

So damn good!! When the brothers were reunited I cried!! This book was so good I had to purposely slow down so I wouldn’t finish it to quickly. I am now sad it’s over. I wish for another checkmate book or maybe 5 more.

This book, y’all it is such a great book, and I squealed as things changed and my jaw dropped as information was revealed. I laughed and I cried... I cannot wait for Emilia’s next book!

Emilia Finn is amazing. This storyline in the Checkmate series was amazing, shocking, funny, sad etc etc etc. All the feels a really good book gives you. The man in this story was a huge surprise. None of us saw it coming!

I loved how this book has the main character a female heroine; who is not only smart and talented but also beautiful. I read this in 2 days!

What can I say? This book is awesome.! Emilia Finn keeps delivering! I love her characters! They make you laugh, cry and fall in love with them! You feel a part of their family! This book really keeps you on your toes!

I love how she portrays characters going through turmoil that any of us can be experiencing but she shows them working through their low points. Just when you think the story line is leading elsewhere it takes a turn and shows you a side you didnt think possible. We learn patience along with the characters.

Action? Oh yeah! Betrayal? Yep! Comedy? Absolutely! Romance? For sure! Emilia Finn gives us everything, every time! I will read anything she ever writes! So looking forward to Checkmate Book 6!!

This book was so great! I really enjoyed the time I spent with these characters. The hero was hilarious. I couldn't believe the things he was saying as I was laughing out loud. And the heroine was so strong and everything I want to read in a female character. Thanks Emilia!

I have been reading Emilia's books for over a year now and have gotten to see how she has grown and evolved as an author. Everyone of her books is worth reading and the latest one is always better than the one before. This one is no exception. It is her best yet and I am exciting for more to come.

All I can say is WOW. This book was amazing like all of Emilia's book are, but this one has to be my favorite so far! I couldn't put it down, and took notes throughout so that I could follow the mystery, and put the peices together along the way!

I thought I loved Kanes character but totally loved Jay's too. Great read. They do get a little repetitive, man chasing woman, etc but overall great story line.

I have to say, Emilia Finn, you are an amazing writer! The way you describe scenes and characters is remarkable. There are so many great things about this novel. CHAPTER 9!! And Soph is an all around BADASS! I love her so much! The King is definitely here and I am LIVING for it!!

If you’re a lover of Emilia Finn you know how much we all anticipated this book and sneaky Emilia gave us no spoilers even though we had our guesses and this book DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Seriously! What brought me to tears first in Pawns and sobs in Rook is now the source of so many tears of happiness as I read about a joyful and lively diner. The love in this book, the family that is in this series is why this series is so good! It makes you laugh, swoon and cry all within the same page. Start at book 1 don’t skip!

Another masterpiece. You fall in love with each of the characters a little more In every book. By the time your at the end, your sorry you read it so fast and it’s over. You want to read their everyday life because now you feel like your part of the family and don’t want to be left out. But that’s for the next book!!!

I knew this one was worth waiting for. Emilia hit this one out of the park. You feel everything in this book; sadness, joy, anger, redemption, tears and laughter. I can't wait for Eric and Spencer.

Well..... I absolutely freakin loved this book too. I feel like I’m on repeat every review I leave for the books in the Checkmate series, but what can I say, they’re awesome.

I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day. It will leave you with a book hangover for sure. If this is your first time discovering this author, either go back and start with the Rollers or at least start with Pawns in the Bishops Game. It will make it so much better than reading it by itself.

I'm not going to spoil the plot, or give hints etc. Too many words, and too much will be revealed! What I am going to say is, you NEED to read this book. All will be revealed, all will be a 'ahhuh!' moment. I laughed, I muttered darkly and I may have developed a tiny crush on the heroine :D! Sorrynotsorry, Hero!
