Prep Course For the Young Beginner: Lesson Book Level C

The Alfred's Basic Collection Library works really well for my piano students. I highly recommend any material from this library.

Value for money

As a piano teacher, this is one of my favorite lesson books to work with beginners. After a student completes a primer level book, I normally use this book before heading into a level 1 book. The first chapter, all songs are written in C Major. The next session all of the songs are in middle c position, and the last part of the book is in low G major. I tend to begin in the middle of the book and play all of the songs written in middle c position, then moving to the beginning of the book (c major songs). Each song as a teacher duet, and most of the songs are familiar tunes - which is alway helpful when teaching a beginner.

It's Alfred. Can't go wrong! Great selection of tunes (ones I learned on as a kid are still there--just with updated artwork!), colorful pages, and appropriate expectations as the student advances through the book.

Can't go wrong with Alfred books. I'm a piano teacher for young students and these books are perfect. I love the combo of a lesson and theory book. These books are wonderful for students under the age of 8. I like the Level 1A and 1B books for older children.

My son is 7 and has been in piano about a year and a half, so we have been through several of these Prep Course books. They are all very good and provide a step by step learning for the student. we also use the theory book that goes along with this and love it too.

The product came with a torn back cover. The torn portion was put into the package.

The book is a great follow up to Prep Course B. The book is being used by a child but could be used by any beginners who want to learn piano.

I’m a big fan of this series for my 4 and now 5 year old daughter. She was reading music on the staff at 4 and 4 months and we sang all the songs. I like that there are multiple books for each level so that she can keep learning songs at the same level. Other method books add new complexities in each song to the point that a child gets stuck or is afraid to try new repertoire. This series allows for you to switch between books at the same level so the child can master a variety of repertoire without getting bored. I’ve been pointing at the notes while she plays, singing the fingerings, singing the note names, and finally singing the lyrics. This way, repetition is never boring.

I’m a piano teacher and these are my go-to for young students! Wonderful books with simple steps and the words to the songs are fun. Always my first choice!

Great series of books to follow

Lots of fun duets to play in this book. Students recognize the pieces and should be able to work through this book on their own.

My 7 year old follows this piano lesson books religiously. The availability of these books could be made better as I checked a no of times before saw it here

My 6 y.o. DD has just started taking piano lessons. I have purchased these books from A to E. The main advantage of these books is that they start teaching the black keys first, which is amazingly easier than to learn the white keys first. Each note is then given a name(e.g. a C note is Cat and it leaves in a Cat's house which is just before the two black keys). My DD followed these explanations with no problems and learned all her keys in 2 lessons. In my view, the children would find learning music and play piano fun with these books. Also, the songs choices in these books are great.

This series is excellent for young ones of all abilities going at a very easy pace to suit the youngest and not the brightest. However, with good pupils I often just get them to sight read the next piece and then skip learning it if they can do it with minimal help. Love the big print, very suitable for early readers.
