Lynsay Sands and Hannah Howell return to the windswept Highlands of 16th century Scotland in the captivating story of identical twin brothers trapped between the curse that has been their legacy and the two women whose love is their destiny . . .

As identical twins, Bothan and Calum MacNachton share a bond stronger than most brothers, one forged by a terrible secret. Rumors and dark tales have been whispered about their clan for centuries. For they roam the Highlands at night, driven by a savage hunger that can never be sated. Their only hope lies in marriage to Outsiders, mortal women whose pure blood will weaken the hold of their eternal curse.

Kenna Brodie and Sarra DeCourcey know what it is to stand apart. They've heard the terrible, whispered warnings, but nothing could prepare them for the handsome brothers whose fierce, unyielding desires are beyond any legend . . .

What Bothan and Calum promise is a life unlike any Kenna and Sarra have ever known. Now, Kenna and Sarra must choose whether to betray their dark lords or stand and fight for a passion that will never die. . .

I love all the MacNachton stories

I have read all the MacNachton's stories, well at least the eight stories I found about them. I hope H. Howell continues writing about them and the battles the clan has against outsiders who believe them demons. I really enjoyed Bothan's story, much more than Calum's. I was under the impression at first that Bothan and Calum were Cathal and Bridget's sons. It made sense having one son with a 'C' name for Cathal and the other a 'B' for Bridget, but when Bothan talks about his parents in the book, he doesn't refer to the laird and his wife. He states his father married 3 years after the laird and that his mother was a Callan and sister to the laird's wife. That is exactly the story of Jankyn and Efrica in 'Highland Vampire'. Bothan also mentions an older brother who is more 'Outsider' than 'Pureblood'. I assumed he meant David, Jankyn's son with Mora. In 'Highland Hunger' Raibeart MacNachton's story, taking place 38 years after the 'Eternal Highlander' it is mentioned that Bridget and Efrica are pregnant again, so obviously Efrica had more children. I know in Heming's story 'Highland Thirst" he is mentioned as being the child of Jankyn and Efrica, but no other siblings are spoken of. What is weird is that in 'Highland Beast' Gybbon MacNachton's story, he mentioned his parents are also a MacNachton and Callan. He says his mother is the sister of Bridget, referring to Efrica, yet when he speaking of Heming, he refers to him as his cousin and not his brother. That makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is H. Howell got her characters confused. She really should have made Bothan and Calum, Cathal and Bridget's sons. Gybbon should have been the son of a MacNachton woman and one of Bridget's brothers. It was mentioned a few bastards were born to some purebloods after encounters with Bridget's brothers.

Love this family

I have enjoyed everyone of the books in this series. I think the McNachton clan is great and the stories are very entertaining. My only complaint is there are not more stories of them being made and I would like for them to finally find and get rid of their main enemy—the Laird. Wish Hannah would write more of them.

My immortal Highlander

Once again, Hanna hit a home run with me with her on going story's of the MacNachton clan & their search for their "Lost ones' & linding thier perfet mate, thier perfect matches in the possess. She give me hope & determination, that YES I will find MY perfect mate. The other two story's are good as well. They give me a peek into a diferent mind set of what a Vampier is & what their lives are all about & how when finding your perfect match, your perfect mate. It will & does turn your life upside down when you do &when you finally acsept what is trun wheather you are human or super natural. True love is true love & it inpacts us all in the same way. That & the other story's alway's turn my mind to new ideas as to what life CAN be if you choose it to be. Thank you ladies for giving me a touch of real life insight through your story's & your carictor's. As alway's Hanna willstay in my library & will be read over & over again. Thanks from Sf in Westminster Co.

Excellent

I read a lot and quickly. I had to slow down and really immerse myself in it! I couldn't put it down! One of her best works yet! If you dont have good reading comprehension skills you might have to take your time but it is well worth it! Very intricate writing! The characters have layers of nuance, personality galore and suggestiveness instead of outright sex. A good book to read even for teenagers!

Sweet and full of laughs

The first half of the book is a bit more serious but very well laid out. The second half had me rolling with laughter. The description of Sarra trying get Valium inside the castle, well it reminded me of sketch comedy.

Loved it

I have loved all Hanna Howell since reading her first book from zebra. I read every book she writes and that I can get my hands on. these books are very lovely stories about a time period that fantasize about. none of the Gore but all of the lovely times and love.

Both awesome

Both stories were great. Authors writing the same series independently could be iffy, but these are completely on point with one another. Loved them both!

A enjoyable series

The McNachton series is a fun and enjoyable read. I wish it was a longer series of books, since I have enjoyed each story.

Want more of these

Enjoy all books by this author

If you liked the eternal highlander...

The eternal highlander is the first book to introduce the macnachtons. I truly enjoyed the story of the twin brothers in this book. The only confusing thing is figuring out who their parents are. At first I thought it was the sons of bridget & cathal, but the first story says that bridget is his aunt. However, bridgets sister is in another book w/ jankyn...I have not read that one yet, so that book might explain who the twins parents are. Except for that confusion, the storys were great. I recommend the whole series that features the macnactons & mcadies.

Entranced, Erotic, Discriptive

Felicity Heaton is a fantastic writer. She makes the words come alive, I see it all happening in my mind like a movie. She makes you want to be seduced by a vampire. I enjoy all of her works.

these ladies no how to write a good book I couldn't put it down

been there

I bought this book thinking it was one I haven't read yet, but it was one I bought a few years ago. It just has a new cover. What is surprising is that usually if you try to buy an ebook you already have there will be a pop-up to let you know you have already purchased that title. It didn't do that this time. I did enjoy the book the first time I read it though.

One Dud, One Spectacular Story. Recommend the Story by Lynsay Sands

I was very disappointed in 'The Hunt" by Hannah Howell. I normally love her books and have replaced almost every one of my paper editions with Kindle. I like the McNachton storyline, but this particular story felt like all sex loosely held together by a bit of story. I don't mind explicit sex in stories, but I want a good story. I became angry at the number of story-interruptuses there were and felt like screaming at the characters to get over it, already. The characters were good, the hero and heroine were likeable and the plot was great. Unfortunately, especially given the novella length, the characterizations and plot suffered because of all the sex. There was a lot of unfulfilled potential in this story. I don't know if the author chose to focus on the sex or if it was done at the urging of the publisher, but I hated it. I would rate this story one star and only recommend it to readers who want to complete the McNaughton storyline. 'The Rescue', by Lynsay Sands, was very well written. The characters were wonderful, the plot was engaging, the dialogue both sparkled with humour and tugged at the heart strings, not an easy feat. The opening scene alone, with the hero's reaction to the heroine's singing, had me laughing out loud. As someone who cannot sing a note, I had no trouble visualizing the action. As well, the heroine's efforts to help the hero usually ended up in pure farce, further reducing me to tears of laughter. The hero was a sweetheart. He was honourable, brave and noble, and he showed great tenderness, sensitivity and compassion when interacting with the heroine's dying father. For such a strong alpha hero, he was like putty in the heroine's hands; he definitely didn't know what hit him when he met her. There was sex in this story, but it was a minor part of it. The story was the focus in this novella and it was Ms. Sands at her finest. I would rate it five stars, ten if I could, and I highly recommend it. As a compromise, given the uneven quality of the stories, I am rating this book three stars and recommend it for the story by Lynsay Sands.

Disappointed in Sands

If this was strictly a Hannah Howell book I never would have read it. I decided to read this because of Lynsay sands. I was cautious going into the first story as it was Howell's, but then I ended up loving it! I was excited to start Sands story, but I feel it didn't hold up to her usual standards. she needed a whole lot of book to make this story. The first 50 or 60 pages is about the Hero rescuing our heroine from her would be kidnappers. The story had her usual humor, but I felt like she had to rush the ending because she put so much stock in the beginning of the story. The characters in Sands story knew each other for a day and were in love? I mean I don't mind a romance in a few days kind of story, but this one was way to quick. They just fall in love and she somehow knows he is a vampire? no questions asked? I don't think we even got to know the characters. I would've thought that Calum would have been just as weary as Bothan of people finding out what they are, but it is really downplayed. I mean she burns the guys hair being clumsy and he never even mentions it later. Dealing with the guy that plagues the heroine throughout this story was a little lack luster. it was funny at first, but there was nothing about him at the very end. I think it would have been funny to see his reaction when told that she had married someone else. If not for this story being second in the book I probably would have been confused about what the brothers were. There were no plans to go meet the rest of the family and in Sands story there is no mention of the catlike qualities of the brothers as in the first story. This seems pretty important since it explains why he can be in the sun at all. There is hardly any connection between the brothers. The fact that they are twins is mentioned more than one (as in the first one), but really downplayed. I feel the biggest disappointment is that in neither story did any of the characters address the fact that the brothers were immortal while their mates were mortal. Seems like it may have been a worry, or topic of some kind of discussion. Overall, I like the book, but I am really disappointed that Sands book didn't take us any further into the brothers' lives. It seemed to scratch the surface really. Howell did a good job for the first part of the book, but Sands could have taken us deeper. I also think both authors could have worked harder to harden down the brothers qualities - such as one being a vampire while the other is a catlike blood drinker. It is worth a read, but I think the authors need a little more preparation for paired writing. - L.C.

My Immortal Highlander

The Hunt by Hannah Howell Bothan MacNachton seeks shelter from the rain in a cave where he finds Kenna Brodie warming herself by a fire. Bothan has been searching for a bride. Kenna explains that she has been banished from her clan by her greedy uncle Kelvyn. In order to return, she must bring the hand, head and heart of a MacNachton with her. Kenna is a seer but her dreams are not always clear. They have brought her to Bothan but she is not sure why. Bothan is wary of Kenna's abilities and motives, but seeing a chance to possibly eliminate the man in charge of attempting to destroy his clan, he proposes that they marry and go back to her clan together. The journey back to Bantulach allows Kenna and Bothan to get to know each other, but their growing peace is short lived when they have to deal with Kelvyn. Bothan tries to keep his secret until he is ready to reveal his true self to Kenna, but Kenna is figuring things out for herself quickly. Their battles may be hard won but they have the chance for a great love, if they survive. Bothan and Kenna are great characters. Bothan is intense and sexy and Kenna proves the perfect match for him with her intelligence and charm. While Kenna's conversations with her mother are heartwarming and helpful, they are a little distracting. Bothan is doubly enticing with his Scottish bur and his unique abilities. The Hunt is an exciting story with lots of sensuality and romance. The Rescue by Lynsay Sands Calum MacNachton saves Sarra DeCourcey from some men intent on bringing her to Lord d'Angers who is determined to marry her, willing or not. Calum is hurt in the fight, and Sarra brings him to her home to tend him. It becomes apparent to Sarra that Calum is no ordinary man, but never the less she is not bothered by his differences. As Calum finds himself drawn to Sarra, he feels she will reject him if she knew what he really is, so he leaves before he can get too close to her. When He sees that Sarra is in danger yet again he wants to return and he hopes that he won't be leaving again. In The Rescue, Calum's gruffness is sexy and Sarra's clumsiness in the beginning is endearing. The storyline is sedate but nicely written and entertaining. I like these characters and the romance is tender. Both Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands do a good job combing the two genres in My Immortal Highlander. Their blend of a historical Scottish romance with a paranormal twist is sensual, entertaining, and romantic. Nannette Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Two stories of brothers with rather unusual characteristics

This book contains two stories featuring identical twin brothers Bothan and Calum MacNachton, members of a strange Scottish clan of people who have fangs, great strength, long life, drink blood and can't go out in the sun. The history of their clan is one of violence and attacks on others although they have recently changed - now the clan members try to marry Outsiders from the clan and they are careful about using their gifts. The first story, 'The Hunt' by Hannah Howell, follows Bothan MacNachton as he meets Kenna Brodie. He discovers fairly quickly that Kenna has been tasked to kill him by her uncle - as a means for her uncle to dispose of her as he doesn't expect her to survive the encounter. Kenna is rightly the laird of their clan but her uncle has usurped her position and wants to get rid of her; he also has an obsession with destroying the MacNachton clan so tries to kill two birds with one stone. Unfortunately Bothan and Kenna confuse his plan by marrying and returning to Bantulach to take up their position as laird, banishing Kelvyn the uncle. However he is still plotting against the MacNachtons and has helpers in the village, plus Kenna isn't really aware of who her husband is. When she discovers his different nature will she be afraid of him? Can she and Bothan make their village safe? This story is fairly simple in its plot and characterisation. There aren't any real suprises along the way and problems and obstacles seem to be overcome without too many difficulties. Kenna herself has some strange attributes - she is a seer and she hears her dead mother's voice - which enable her to accept that the differences in Bothan are not instant proof that he is a demon. Neither character really grows or changes through this story, it is more about a woman dispossessed of her inheritance regaining it with the help of a strong and handsome man, so it's light reading rather than a more in-depth story. The language of this book is a mixture of American and Scottish - occasional modern American phrasing creeps in, along with strong Scottish words (hasnae, dinnae, mon, weel etc). There's not a great deal of historical detail but that doesn't matter too much to the story. However the strong Scottish way of speaking might put some people off - for example, although Highland stories are popular in America the Scottish accent isn't generally seen as very appealing in England. The second story, "The Rescue" by Lynsay Sands, worked rather better for me. Calum MacNaghton, brother of Bothan from the first story, is travelling to London on a small task for his uncle when he finds himself rescuing a young lady from a group of men who are trying to kidnap her. Unfortunately the kidnap is taking place in daylight and so whilst helping Sarra DeCourcey, the young woman, he becomes dangerously weak and eventually passes out. Sarra helps him back to her father's castle and lets him rest there with her father whilst he gets back his strength. However the man behind the attempted kidnapping still wants to get Sarra so he can marry her - Sarra's father is dying and she is the heir to a reasonable estate. With a traitor somewhere in Sarra's castle, and with Calum needing to continue on his journey within England to reach London, can Sarra be made safe? Like the previous story this one is fairly simple and plain - in under 150 pages it's difficult to make a very complex plot and characterisation. However there were some amusing aspects to this story that made it more enjoyable to read than 'The Hunt'. Calum's horse, Pretty Boy or Black, behaves in a rather un-horselike manner, Sarra herself struggles to rescue Calum and ends up tying him to the horse upside down, and their way of dealing with some of the more difficult problems of being under siege are also quite funny. It's not laugh-out-loud amusing but it adds a little lightness to the story. Calum is Scottish, of course, and speaks in a Scottish manner but the rest of the characters in this story are English so I found it rather easier to read. It's noticeable that Lynsay Sands uses the word "vampire" for her hero which wasn't used in the previous story - although focusing on two brothers these stories did have a rather different feel. Again some Americanisms slipped in to this story but overall it was an enjoyable read and I found it more satisfying than 'The Hunt'. For those who like reading stories set in Scotland these were fun but they did suffer from the limitations of the shorter story format. 4.5 Stars!

This novel contains two stories set in Scotland, early sixteenth century. The first story is titled "The Hunt" and written by Hannah Howell. Kenna Brodie of Bantaluch is a seer. Her uncle, wanting control of her people, sends Kenna on a quest to prove herself. She is to bring home the head and heart of a MacNachton. (The uncle never stated that the MacNachton had to be dead.) Kenna has no intention of completing the quest. However, Botham MacNachton meets her in a cave. The MacNachton clan has a bloodlust. They can morph into beasts. In fact, Botham and his twin brother, Calum, are on missions to locate wives from outside the clan in hopes of saving their people. Kenna has no problem with loving both sides of Botham, neither the man, nor the beast. The second story is titled "The Rescue" and written by Lynsay Sands. This is Calum MacNachton's tale. Sarra DeCourcey had spurned a cruel suitor and ended up being kidnapped. Calum rescues her. They soon find themselves falling in love. Problem is that the spurned man refuses to give Sarra up. **** An interesting blend of talents by two well-known authors. Though the authors' writing styles are quite different, they seem to compliment each other somehow. The male characters in their stories are able to shapeshift into catmen. (They even purr in their sleep, though they would never admit it.) Very well done and highly recommended to all who enjoy paranormal romances! **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

terrific two in one historical romantic fantasy

In 1509 Scotland in order to save their clan, identical twins Botham and Calum MacNachton must find wives who are not afflicted with the bloodlust that is destroying them. Neither has hope of finding anyone. "The Hunt" by Hannah Howell. Seer Kenna Brodie of Bantaluch must bring home the corpse of a MacNachton as demanded by her odious demanding but sly uncle or remain in exile. When she meets Botham, she knows she must kill him, but cannot as she is attracted to him; he shares her deep regard. As they fall in love, they team up to fool her uncle. "The Rescue" by Lynsay Sands. Kidnappers abduct Sarra DeCourcey, but Calum rescues her. Apparently a rejected cruel suitor will do anything to force Sarra into marrying him. While Calum and Sarra fall in love, they must prevent her merciless adversary from taking her again. Though both siblings have fallen in love and want to marry their respective woman; neither knows whether the chosen ones can save their clan. This is a terrific two in one historical romantic fantasy that is a delightful follow up to the wonderful ETERNAL HIGHLANDER. The brothers are beguiling protagonists struggling with overcoming a curse by marrying the right women yet fall in love with two females in trouble who might not meet their requirement. Fans will appreciate the superb teaming up of Hannah Howell & Lynsay Sands as they deftly provide an entertaining tale. Harriet Klausner

Editor please....

The attempted use of Scots English in these two stories is poorly done and often makes no sense. The first story, Hannah Howell's "The Hunt," is the worst offender of the two. Now, I know, not a lot of readers will be familiar with the proper use of this dialect, but it sure drove me nuts how badly it was done. If you're going to use it that much, do it right. Then there's the horse... In the second story, Linsay Sands' "The Rescue," the hero's horse follows the heroine everywhere. As in, it ends up sleeping in her rooms at the castle, walking all over the kitchen, eating in the dining hall!!! Is it possible that the author and the editor didn't know exactly what horses leave behind wherever they go? I couldn't read the story because I kept imagining the trails of horse droppings in every scene. And that horse is in almost every scene of the book that I was able to get through! I am a huge fan of historical romance and I realize that historical accuracy is not a requirement for a good story in this genre, but a certain lack of horse poop is. Talk about not being able to suspend my disbelief!

MAYBE A 3 1/2 STAR ? NOT UP TO PAR FOR LYNSAY SANDS

This was my first vampire story so I wasn't sure what to expect but I have read all of Lynsay Sands romance books which I totally love and I thought I would try this one. I was disappointed in both stories but I enjoyed several things in both stories also. The characters were good in both, interesting but maybe the stories were to short to really get into any depth? I'm not sure. Give them a try though. They are a quick read.

I liked the horse...

Under normal circumstances, I would give this book at least a four or five star rating. The characters and the plot (which one can read about in further detail in other reviews) are wonderful. I especially enjoyed "The Rescue". Maybe it was the horse, maybe it was the catapult... or maybe it was because there wasn't so much use of the Scottish dialect. That, dear readers, is what brought down the average. A reviewer who gave the book two stars mentioned that it was used improperly. While I cannot judge whether it was used properly or not, I can say that it made reading "The Hunt" extremely difficult. (Frankly, I was expecting the Nac Mac Feegles to pop out at any moment and start cutting people off at the knees.) While I appreciate the author wanting to, perhaps, give the reader some "authentic" dialogue, I could've done without it. It was interesting the first few pages, but pretty it began to hurt my head... and my soul. I can handle "doona" and "canna" but after that, I want to start throwing things. Ya ken...

Great book

It a great read

Two Lovely Stories

Both were fun to read and I read through each story at one sitting. I did like Lynsay Sands story best, but I just like her writing. This story has some of the humor most of her stories carry and I actually laughed out loud at a couple places which I normally don't do.

Four Stars

My Immortal Highlander

I recommended to anyone who hasn't read Hannah Howell work. She is a great author and you won't be disappointed.

Great fast read

I love pretty much anything by Lynsay Sands, and this is the first book I've read by Hannah Howell. they were both witty, charming, sexy, quick reads. I love a strong heroine and a sexy strong man to back her. this is a book will not disappoint.

Re-release

It always pays to read the review. Yet another re-release pretending to be new. I wish the product page would say that instead of giving a new publication date. Saying that, I also enjoyed the original publication. Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands are always great reads.

The two of you make a great team!

You know that there isn't anything better about a great story! It seems pretty happy and love😘 for each other? I'm not saying that this isn't exactly what they mean? Edit with this one is awesome👍. Also you need more love with your books?
