Just Shopping with Mom (A Golden Look-Look Book)

Second copy for Grandchild who moved away. Great stories and illustrations.

Read it once to my 2.5 yr old and probably won’t read it again. It was exhausting just reading it. Feel sorry for the mom in it! Didn’t take away any positive message from the book - or maybe I was just too fristrated by the end of it to pick up on the message.

Over the years I have bought many of the Critter books. They are completely relatable to the little ones and we have great talks about what the characters are doing, how they feel and what they think they would do. The illustrations are wonderful and they like looking for and finding the the spider and grasshopper.

Ita a book. Little one likes finding the spider and mouse.

My daughter likes to pretend play grocery shopping and have her own little cart at our grocery store. I like to peak her interest in reading by selecting topics on activities she enjoys, so naturally, this book was perfect. Mercer Mayer's illustrations are a little busy, but they have always been that way, which is fun but often detracts from the reading. However, a book about shopping or grocery shopping is hard to find, so this book does the trick.

My daughter loves Little Critter, and she loves practicing her reading by reading this book. It is just the right reading level for her. The words are are easy to read or sound out. It is a nice addition to any Little critter Collection.

Our kids loved this story, especially our oldest as her younger sister was growing up. I would say good for ages 2-6.

Good book

This is my daughters favorite book. I bought her a newer copy because the old one was well loved. This new book however is slightly different in the story! We were very disappointed especially considering they changed her favorite part. Instead of the Momma asking "Would you like a spanking instead?" It now says "Would you like a time out instead?" I mean, Really? We used to laugh at the old line because the little critters reaction was priceless. But this version is just too "PC" even for a liberal like me.

Mercer Mayer tells us about the simple things in life in a fun way. I enjoy all Mercer Mayer books.

I read these as a child now my daughter loves reading them. She is only learning to read but she has loved these books for over a year anyway. Her favorite part is finding the spider/mouse/grasshopper on each page.

This is a great story by mercer meyer and i love how he brings hios characters to the store and the adventure that they have

One just can't go wrong with a Mercer Mayer book, no matter the topic! I've used this with my middle school aged Life Skills students to teach them appropriate behavior skills while at the grocery store.

My sons love little critter books! We read several each night before bed. Just shopping with mom makes them laugh because they see themselves in the story.. They've been known to make a scene when running errands with me

A glimpse at what shopping with kids is really like. Great pictures as always and good story line. 2 thumbs up!

I love the humor of mercer Mayer but this book dissapointed. It constantly refers to "mom was mad." While this is may happen when taking small children out shopping I do not care for it to be highlighted when reading a book to bond with my child reflecting on time we've spent together.

I don't think there is a bad little critter book in the world of childrens books.

My two-and-a-half-year old son loves the Little Critter books, but his mom and dad aren't nearly so fond of them. The books are fairly short, simply written and cover day-to-day topics (like taking a bath, or sharing with a friend, or in this case, taking a shopping trip with mom) from the young child's perspective, which probably explains why my son enjoys hearing them. But after reading several of these books, my son began mimicking the bad behavior illustrated in them (presumably intended by the author to get the young reader to laugh at and learn from the miscreant). He quickly learned how to whine "I want [fill in the blank]" just like the obnoxious kid sister in this book, having never done it before. Sure, it's probably a phase he would have entered anyway, but the fact that he is quoting, verbatim, bratty dialogue from various Critter books makes me loathe to recommend them to other parents. As an aside, I find the books rather charmless and the illustrations -- bizarre snaggle-toothed characters dressed in 19th-century clothing but depicted in 20th-century America -- bizarre and sometimes unsettling.

Great book & good read . My 3 year old loves. He can relate to some of the things little sister does in the book. I def recommend.

I was so excited to share this book with my girls. It was a story my mother, whom passed away last spring, had read to me 100 times. I was just as disappointed that the words have been changed from the original. It would have been nice to kno before I purchased the item.

Eh... very thin and flimsy. I misread, thought this was a board book.

Mercer Mayer writes wonderful books for beginning readers. My first grade daughter can read his books with relative easy, which helps her with her confidence. There are enough challenging words to keep her learning. She really enjoyed reading this book and pointing out to me how the sister was misbehaving. Rather than using the story as an excuse to misbehave, we use it as a learning tool. It is a story any parent can relate to!

My daughter loves the Little Critter books and this is another new favorite of hers. They are always such a fun read and she can relate to them. She asks me to read these again and again!

Good book for children, enjoyable for an adult to read also. Little Critter books always bring a smile, with interesting illustration & storyline.

This is a cute book for the whole family. In JUST SHOPPING WITH MOM, mom is given the difficult task of shopping and keeping her children out of trouble. Little sister begs for candy and toys but mom tells her no. My children laughed at all the silly things little sister does in the grocery store. Parents everywhere will be able to relate to this story!
