For a 3rd grade boy
I keep new Garfield books in the cupboard. When he is tired or a bit down, I get one out. He is soon absorbed in the stories and giggling. I also usually keep a Garfield book in the car for him to look at while I drive. When he has gone through the entire book I put it back in the cupboard, then get it out months later. Also, there have been occasions when we were in a bit of a pickle for having a b-day present for one of his friends or cousins. The Garfield books make wonderful presents because they fit both genders and so many grade-levels.

I had forgotten what a poor role model Garfield is. After the five year olds started acting like Garfield I stuck it in the back of the closet. Spend your time on something else!
