Everyday Holy: Finding a Big God in the Little Moments

Big Mama knows what to say when I need to hear it. I'm on day 2 of the devotional and am STOPPING myself from reading through to the end. God knows what I need and I am allowing His and Melanie's works speak to me every day. Then I'll read it through again and again because it is just that good. Cannot wait for my journal to come in to accompany the book. Every book of Melanie's speaks to my soul, my heart, my life and I love her for it. Get it. It does not disappoint. it's a #blessing because be we are all truly #blessed.

I have loved Melanie's writings in the past, but I have to say that this devotional may be her best writing yet. I have to fight the urge to read it all in one sitting. Each day contains so much everyday wisdom. I am on Day 6 and honestly each of those days has been jam packed with such guidance and strong vision for the day. I always pass on my devotional books when I am done with them, but I just ordered one for my daughter and one for my mother. I felt like they would enjoy them NOW. ---Sandy Palmer

Melanie is young with a daughter at home, and I’m a retired grandma, yet each of her lessons touches my spirit and heart. I highly recommend this for any woman and am grateful that this book found its way into my life.

Loving Melanie Shankle's short, sweet, simple daily devotional. It makes a relevant point with a related verse in an easy and comfortable manner. This would not be my only Bible reading, but it is a great 3-5 minutes of each day. This book would also make a good gift for anyone.

This is a wonderful devotional! I read it everyday. It is funny and relates to every day situations while reminding you of God's love and Grace. I would highly recommend this book for anyone and would be a great gift!

I think this book has a lot of good one-liner sentences, but a majority of the devotional days are so surface level and repetitive.

Repetitive, important truths interspersed with stand-up comedic one-liners is a bad combination, and really not as funny as she seems to think.

I've been a Melanie Shankle fan for a few years. Her light-hearted essays have been some of my favorite reads! Melanie is awesome because she is so down-to-earth, yet she has this depth about her where you glean so much. I had the opportunity to review her latest book, a devotional called, "Everyday Holy". This book has 100 devotions to help you "find a big God in the little moments". She uses her little moments to bring perspective to the mundane. When I say little moments, I mean little. The girl talks about Veggie-Tales for crying out loud! :) I loved this book because I could relate to Melanie and remember her lessons the next time I found myself in the same situation. In the midst of the light-hearted banter are deep truths that sink into weary hearts. Here's a glimpse: "I felt God say to me in the still, small place in my heart, "My girl, that's how it is sometimes. After a long winter, spring doesn't happen all at once. It happens one flower at a time. I make all things beautiful, one flower at a time." And that was the reminder I needed that God is not old. He is always at work, even when it may not seem obvious at first." Each days entry contains multiple Scriptures and is short enough to read in a few stolen moments. This book is so encouraging and I highly recommend it!

This pretty little devotional boook by Melanie Shankle is a great addition to a Bible reading plan and will help you to turn your mind toward godly things and help you to think Biblically throughout the day when you encounter different situations. The book is set up as 100 different readings, one for each day. The reading begins with a verse or a passage of Scripture and then an accompanying narrative. The daily reading is written in an easy-to-read, chatty type style. The reader will feel like they are talking with a friend. The Bible verses are explained and/or applied to daily life. One I liked in particular is entitled, "What if you said yes?" and talks about the rich young ruler--what if he had said yes to Jesus? And the parallel in our own lives -- what if we said yes to what God asks of us? The topics covered in this devotional are things that are applicable to most people in this day and age. They touch on our attitudes, our actions, our place in our families and communities, and more. On a superficial level, it's a very nice-looking book. The cover is attractive (make sure you check out the cute chickadee on the back cover!), there is a bookmark ribbon, and the pages of the devotional are pretty and easy to read. I would recommend this book for you to read every day or to give as a gift! I'll be using this with my daily devotions for quite a few more days! I have read all of Melanie Shankle's books in the past so when I saw she put out of her first devotional, I was anxious to get my hands on it. Everyday Holy is completely relatable as Shankle uses everyday situations, stories from her life and pop culture to draw you in to be reminded of God's goodness. I feel like sometimes devotionals can be heavy and a bit bogged down for me. These are the opposite of that. They clearly turn you toward God with scriptures and basic truths based on those scriptures but are also basic enough that even the youngest of Christians can relate to what is shared. Have been carrying some added ‘worries’ these past few months and I do NOT like to worry. Finally, this morning after talking to God I decided I was just going to have my own little ‘breakdown’ and have a good cry. Actually it felt good and I preceded on with my day reminding myself God has a plan. I treated myself to a nap and was woken by the doorbell. The postman had delivered a package and inside was this book from my sister Maureen. The first devotional had me ‘hooked’ and there is no way this reader can wait for each new day to read JUST one of these devotionals. Melanie is funny, down to earth and real. And she has a way of making me feel like God is sitting right next to me talking as her words do thru her writing. This book reaffirms to me that God knows exactly what he is doing and I should just enjoy the journey.

It's a beautiful hardback book with a powerful message. I'm excited to open the book each day. The devotions are filled with stories that are easy for women to relate to, include Bible stories/passages/characters and inspire you to find God all around you. Shankle is funny, clever, relatable and easy to read. Her devotions get you thinking and are easy to apply to your life. This devotion would be the perfect one to keep at your desk, bedside or in your car to read when you have a free minute. I bet you'll want to read more than one day at a time if you're like me. I'd highly recommend this devotion if you're looking for ways to pause and notice what God is doing all around you.

Perfect size to keep close by for reading your daily devotional. This book will challenge you. And it assists you in helping you appreciate what you already have. God's truth is right there waiting for you...in little things and little moments. You don't need something big! This lovely book would be a great gift to yourself or to someone you know that you could find it helpful. I think it is helpful for women no matter where they are in the their walk.
