Is my ordinary, everyday life actually significant? Is it okay to be fulfilled by the simple acts of raising kids, working in an office, and cooking chicken for dinner? It’s been said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.” The pressure of that can be staggering as we spend our days looking for that big thing that promises to take our breath away. Meanwhile, we lose sight of the small significance of fully living with every breath we take. Melanie Shankle, New York Times bestselling author and writer at The Big Mama Blog tackles these questions head on in her fourth book,

Melanie Shankle's BEST book yet!

When I started this one, I really didn't think I could possibly love a Melanie Shankle book more than the ones I had already read, the bar was already so high! But this book, oh my goodness!!!! This book spoke directly to my heart! This book will encourage you, It will lift you up. It will also make you stop in your tracks and reflect on what you are doing in your own life. Are you missing the small things? Knowing that I am not the only introvert who would rather die than be the center of attention, who suffered in agony the growing out period of some particularly bad 9th grade bangs, remembering the shredding (pun intended) pain of the great Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred of 2008, feeling more normal because my life is also run by a pack of crazy, wonderful dogs and most importantly taking that beautiful trip down memory lane because my beloved grandparents were exactly the same... All the while being reminded that every single precious memory is just a small, simple detail in my life. It really is the million small things that make up a life. You will love this book!

This book is a must-read!

I read Melanie's blog every day, and I've read her other books, always enjoying what she's said. But something in this particular book spoke to me in so many personal ways. It was as if she was speaking my thoughts and feelings. From questioning her feelings about church dissatisfaction to her feelings of being "beige", I related to her. If you've ever questioned your life's purpose (and who hasn't?!), please read this book. You'll find reassurances, very funny stories, as well as heartbreaking ones, and I think, a stronger feeling of just where God is in your life. I truly loved this book. In fact, I'll be reading it again- I want to go back and mark the passages that have touched my heart and mean so much to me. Well done, Melanie!

Such a disappointment from such a talented writer

This is the first book I’ve read of Melanie’s and it will be my last. I found myself skipping page after page because I couldn’t take her ramblings. It’s simply a book filled with her personal life stories—we all have them. Yes, she is funny but 200 pages worth equates to too much of a good thing. Melanie, if you read this please know you have so much talent in your writing abilities, the few moments when you used them in this book was inspirational. You landed in some very real topics that we can all relate to and rather than running with them, you ended the paragraph or chapter. Stop hiding behind your humor and write guuurl!!!

When small is big

This book. Wow. What a wonderful reminder of God in the small things in our lives. Most of the human race get stuck in believing we need to do big things in our lives. But, what about the small? Like, packing a lunch, smiling or speaking to someone in the store when you feel that nudge, getting eye level with a little one, just to name a few. Those small things are equally as important as the big. The author fills the pages with humor, reflection, and just real life. At the end of most of the chapters are a list of 10 things she has learned. You need this book in your library! (I highly recommend if you haven't already noticed!) **I was given an early copy from the author for an honest review**

A Fun Read

This is a very easy read. I love Melanie's writing style and story telling abilities. This book is similar to her other books, but this book was more of a collection of stories as opposed to a book all about one theme. Yes. The book is centered around how all the small things in life make a difference and can (and will be) used by God. However, I felt this point got a little lost at different places throughout the book. I don't usually respond to books the way I did respond to this one...I actually did laugh and cry while reading this book. Overall this is a fun read. So if you are looking for some fun reading, go ahead and pick up Church of the Small Things.

Good Read

If you have read her other books, then read this one. If not, don’t start with this one. Her other books flow - this book reads disjointed. Some of it reads like lovely letters written for her family more than a reading audience. Having said that, I am glad that I read her book. There are some beautiful chapters that give more detail than her blog. Since she has moved to more podcasts and less blog posts, it was nice to read her words but I don’t think this is the book that I will reread (I reread her other books yearly!).

Her best book yet!

I️ have been reading Melanie Shankle’s blog for five years now (just after I️ became a momma) and have read all of her books. This is the best yet. After just reading the first few pages, my life, my perspective was forever changed. And after finishing it, I️ want to read it again. It was exactly what I️ (and probably so many of us) needed to hear. I️ recommend this book to any woman (really any person) that sometimes feels blinded and trapped by this culture we live in and is unable to see or feel God in the day to day. Melanie reminds us of what we learned as children in church, God is everywhere and in everything. He calls us to be faithful in every little thing we do. He calls us to trust that He is captain of the ship and we just need to do our job and He’ll get us wherever it is He wants to take us. Melanie, Thank you for writing such a beautiful book (and accompanying Bible study) and for sharing your life and your heart with your readers. Not only are you a beautiful writer but a gifted teacher as well.

Melanie Shankle is one of my favorite authors! She tells the story of real life ...

Melanie Shankle is one of my favorite authors! She tells the story of real life and as you read you feel like you are sitting across a table having coffee with her. Church of the Small Things is a great read that will make you laugh, cry and really think about all the little things that really do mean so much more than you have given them credit. Melanie doesn't try to sugar coat anything and shares real life experiences. Like the times that are hard but end up shaping us into who we are, "The bottom line is, life is going to come with hard times, disappointments, challenges, and all those other things that we all know deep down are the very things that end up shaping our character." Along with the serious moments there are lots of moments of laughter. Reading on Melanie and her daughter's bang experience to "Things I Wish I Knew in High School" to her fun dog stories and everything in between! This is a great, fun read that helps us to remember it's "the million little pieces that make up a life". Enjoy!!

So glad I preordered this book!

I'm a big fan of Melanie Shankle and this book did not disappoint. I laughed, I cried and I laughed while crying a couple of times. Hidden in the middle of all that laughter and stories that brought a tear was so much biblical truth. Not once in my whole life and most of that has been in the church, have I given one thought to the mother of the boy who brought the fish and bread lunch. Without her that story wouldn't have happened. As a SAHM to 4 kids I so often feel forgotten or less then. That what I do doesn't matter at all. But it does and God is using this book to help remind me that these small things I do really do matter in the big picture.

Very Special

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It made me laugh , it made me think about my life right now; as a caregiver to my sweet 92 year old dad. I realized that I get so caught up in the big things, will he be better today, will he be able to walk, and on and on; that I forget about the small things we enjoy. His funny sense of humor and the way he makes me laugh, his ability to be so accepting of Gods' journey for him right now, and just his sweetness. When a writer can make you feel these things she has a true gift. I believe that there is not a person who wouldn't enjoy and benefit from Mrs. Shackle's book. I highly recommend it.

The Church of Small Things is a Sweet book that you'll want to share with everyone you know

Melanie Shankle has a way with her words and her story telling that will immediately pull you in and make you feel like you are sitting with your best friend having a conversation. I read Church of the Small Things in just a few days and I laughed and I cried. The tears were for heart-felt stories that brought back sweet memories of my past days. Melanie's book will pull you in so close that you will feel the need to talk back to her, but than you realize that you are reading a book and not sitting with her in person. The sweet thing about this book is that it helps you to realize that the big huge accomplishments in life are not always the most important. It is our nondescript, small offerings that we make each and every day that some times have the biggest impact and allow us to be the Church of Small Things.

Another heartfelt and awesome book.

I hope to one day meet Melanie and her tribe. I can relate to her on so many levels. I've read all her books, several times actually, and love her stories of family and friendship and motherhood. This another book that makes me stop and realize what is important. I purposely saved this book to read on my vacation and will definitely re-read it. At age 47, it makes me wish I could go back and do a "re-do" on so many things. thank you Melanie for writing from the heart and sharing with us. God Bless

Refreshing & real

Such a refreshing book to listen to. Having Melanie (we’re on a first name now obvi) narrate this had to have given it extra life to hear how it was meant to be read. It was entertaining, funny and at times deep and emotional. Feel like we’re besties now. So can I come over for coffee? I mean, now that you got rid of the white couch (spoiler alert) I won’t have to worry about spilling. I feel like I should sign this “Love ya, Paula” but again I’ve never met you, just feel like I know ya. Darn, I should have let Siri write this review for me to see what nonsense it would have said. 🤣💁♀️

Race should not matter. Christ does.

Was just reading this book the other day. Get it!! She is SO funny. I am African American, from metropolitan city in California and the author is Caucasian from a small town in Texas. But when she mentioned dancing to Sir Mixelot and Tony Toni Tone songs in her college days I cracked up! Me too!! I felt a connection with Melanie Shankle from the get go! And if you are an antique junkie, you Must get the corresponding DVDs. Enjoy!!

Like having coffee with a friend

I received an advance copy of this book for an honest review. I also bought another copy to give as a gift, so obviously I liked it. I admit, I'm a huge fan of Melanie Shankle's books, so I went into this with high expectations. Well, it certainly delivered. Laugh-until-you-cry funny, but poignant and insightful at all the right moments. It's a great reminder that the every day things that can feel totally insignificant really do matter. As the stay-at-home mom of a toddler, this concept definitely resounded with me. Her storytelling style is wonderful and engaging, and the whole book feels like coffee with a friend. I sat down and read the whole thing straight through in one night.

Melanie never disappoints

Read this book, like all her others, in a day and a half!! Melanie is so good at laughing at herself that you know she is the real deal. I snorted laughed at several spots in the book. It's the kind of book that makes you nod and say, "Yeah I feel that way, too." So proud of Melanie Shankle, because even though we've never met I faithfully read her blog, her Instagram, her books, and listen to her podcast. The concept of holding in your heart the small joys in your life is a beauty .

Funny and Thinky

An ankle is well known for her humor laced with truth-telling and in many ways this book is no exception. She makes you giggle in Caroline and laugh so loud that you wake the sleeping dog. However, this book is also different. She forces you to really think about her experiences and then you start noticing your own small moments. And thar, I think, is as valuable as the funniest thing she says.

Each story touches my heart!

Melanie Shankle is one of the best authors on this planet. She speaks to my heart. I feel like I've just had a great conversation with a girlfriend. In fact, I'm pretty sure Melanie, Sophie Hudson, and I are meant to be BFFs! This book brightens my day and I know I will find myself reading it over and over again. Our lives are amazing, just look around! I'll be buying more of these for Christmas gifts for my family and friends! And if you love Melanie, check out her Podcast with Sophie Hudson, The Big Boo Cast. I've listened to so many of their podcasts that I can hear Melanie reading this book to me with her amazing southern accent!

Small Things has big laughs and some tears

While I read and loved all of other books by Melanie Shankle, I wasn't sure what to expect with this one based on the title. Well, I read it and loved it! I laughed, I cried and immediately told my friends that they needed to read it. It's so easy to get caught up in wondering if all the little things we do really matter. Melanie's writing of such mundane things that actually impacted her and others spoke volumes to me. Maybe it's because I'm close to Melanie in age or that we have daughters the same age, or my love of Tex-mex and love/hate relationship with bangs, but I feel like this book was written just for me. I bet other readers will feel the same.

Small things----big life!!

This book is exactly what my soul needed with all the attacks our nation are under.....It is a "belly laugh, wipe a sneaky tear" kind of read, quick with long lasting reminders to remember what really matters!! "It's not about doing the glamorous thing. It's about doing the faithful thing." "Some of us are white couch people. Some of us are brown-couch-that-can-be-wiped-clean-with-some-leather-cleaner people" This brown couch girl says to buy this book! You will be so happy you did. #churchofthesmallthings

Funny, moving, insightful...her best book yet!

This is my favorite Shankle book so far! It was full of wisdom about being faithful and living fully present in the small moments of life, and it also made me laugh, which is always a plus. It solidified in my mind that more often than not, its the ordinary faithfulness, the staying instead of going and the hidden jobs that have no platform, that make a persons character.

She has hit it out of the park again!!!!

I love Melanie Shankle to the moon and back! I enjoy her as a blogger, speaker, writer, Aggie and great friend that doesn’t know me... hehehe! I loved everything about her first three books. I was beyond thrilled when I heard there was going to be another! I had the opportunity to enjoy this one a little early and I was so happy for it’s release yesterday. You will laugh beyond laugh and cry from the core. Her writing it so fun and real as well as from some of the hardest places I bet she has ever written from. It is a book filled with great wisdom, encouraging words and just plain fun!!! I drug my feet to start reading just because I was afraid I would never want it to end and that is just what happened! I loved this from beginning to end and I could not be more happy for Melanie. I am thankful she listened to what was put on her heart, penned it and now has shared it with the world. Your heart will be touched, enlightened, and stretched! Enjoy!

No one can live your life...

Melanie Shankle’s newest book, Church of the Small Things, has all the answers to life’s big mysteries. Melanie’s perspective on how the small things of everyday life add up to create an exceptional life. She uses true stories woven with humor and her belief in Jesus to illustrate how we can find beauty and wonder in simple everyday events. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will want to call your mama, your sister, your Granny, and your best friend while you read this book. I can’t recommend it enough. Here are a few of the great philosophic questions Melanie takes on: Bangs, White Couches, Ant Farms, Pets, Grandparents, Sisters, and Autocorrect.

Love, Laughter and Life Well-Lived

It has been a long time since I’ve encountered such a delightful blend of humor, self-analysis and appreciation for those “million little pieces” of life. The author adeptly shared the texture of her life, with love, loss, mourning and self-realization that it is through our Creator we receive all of our gifts, big and small.

All the right elements for a great read and perspective on life

I really loved this book and it's my favorite of all her books so far. The timing for me was great, having recently transitioned into a side-career job and devoting more time to raising my children well. I was reminded throughout the book about what really matters and that while I may have missed some moments, there are many more to be made. I love how humor is woven all through the book and having listened to Mel on the podcast and read all of her blog posts, it's like she was sitting there telling me about her life. It was deep when it needed to be and light enough for a really tired mom of two to enjoy! Thanks Mel for always being faithful when God gives you a story to tell.

Loved this book!

Loved so much about this book! I’ve loved reading Melanie’s previous books and this one was no exception. She weaves tales of family, friendship, motherhood, faith, fashion, and so much more into a overall story of cherishing the small moments in life. I loved the reminder that faithfulness is found in the big and small things and that a life that looks mundane can still make a great impact. And all of these great reminders are wrapped up in a book that brings a lot of laughs which makes them even better! (I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.)

One of the most funniest books I have ever read

Simple book containing Melanie’s life is a great read. She was able to capture her upbringing in a way that rings true to my upbringing thus bringing out many outbursts of laughter from me. Throughout her book she was also able to share real life circumstances and apply teachable moments on how to look at life differently that will help shape your daily tasks a little bit differently.

Probably my favorite book from Melanie

Probably my favorite book from Melanie! Insightful, witty, affirming, relevant & funny. Melanie helps you remember that God is in the details & that the little things matter to Him. It is a very easy to read book, perfect for when you have a few minutes to read a few pages. I imagine the Bible study is just as good if not better.

Another great work by Melanie Shankle

Melanie did it again. I LOVE this book! Inspiring and thought-provoking, funny and fun, it is everything we've come to expect from Melanie. I've ordered the workbook that goes with it so I can re-read the book and dive a little deeper into the messages of this book. If you haven't read, you must!

Another Amazing Melanie Shankle Book

Another laugh till your sides hurt book, with heart and poignant moments that will bring a tear to your eye. From here on out, I will remember to celebrate the small things and show up to celebrate each of those mundane things for what they are... the beauty of real life.

ENTERTAINING & THOUGHT PROVOKING!

Melanie Shankle's CHURCH OF THE SMALL THINGS: The Million Little Pieces That Make Up a Life is highly entertaining. It is also filled with many thought provoking statements that make you stop and reread them and just think on them for a few moments before you move on to her next anecdote. Shankle has lived a rich, full life. Please understand I don't mean her life has been full ease and without problems. In the midst of everyday normalcy, she has learned to live a life full of love of family, deep, lasting friendships, fabulous fun times with family and friends, how to share her life globally and to be comfortable in her growing relationship with the Lord. Shankle never shies away from her personal struggles and allows you to laugh with her as she goes through life. This book is wonderfully encouraging in its message to avoid making the mistake of missing out on the wonder and miracles of the small things right before our eyes in our quest for the biggest and brightest things that loom just out of our grasp. I think this quote best describes Shankle's message: "We are in God’s will when we wake up with a willingness to go wherever he leads that day, to seek him in the ordinary, and to love and influence the people around us." I was provided an ARC of this book by NetGalley & Zondervan. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Great book!!!

Great book! She is a good writer and seemingly has a substantial amount of life experience that gives her a unique perspective.

Lovely

I honestly don't even recall where I heard about this book, but I'm glad I did. It offers a chance to see the importance of the small gestures and how they are the pebbles that pave our path. I am glad I discovered this book, it's humor, and the message of love.

Is this a book or a blog?

I found the writing interesting but there was a lot of movement from 1 topic to the next without real start, middle, or end.it was an enjoyable read and made several good points but it is not a novel with a plot that comes to a conclusion.

Wonderful

I really love Melanie Shankle and have read all her books....and I really really LOVE this one. She’s right. These little moments, the small things are beautiful and make up the whole of our lives. Love it. Can’t wait for the next book!

So delightful!!

I had to make myself slow down on reading this book so the experience wouldn't go by so quickly. I only let myself read one chapter a day, so i had something to look forward to reading each day:) Lover it so much. Love listening to Melanie voice on her podcasts with Sophie!

I was looking for more spiritual insights, not rambling ...

I was looking for more spiritual insights, not rambling on about her personal life. I see I am in the minority of giving the book only one star, I was expecting much more than what the book offered - which appeared to be an autobiography, I bought the book after hearing about it on the Catholic Channel.

So relatable!

I am new to Melanie Shankle, and I absolutely adore her! I love how she opens up to her readers with stream of consciousness ramblings that sound as if they’ve been taken directly from thought bubbles above my head. She is full of southern charm and sass, and she loves Jesus too.

I like it more than Shankle Oil

This book is wonderful! I have loved all of Melanie's books, but I think this one is my favorite (so far). Melanie's funny and endearing stories are so relatable and heartwarming. I definitely enjoyed this book, but also learned a lot, while not feeling like we (the reader) were being lectured. I laughed, cried and did NOT want the book to end!

Funny and encouraging

It is so encouraging to be reminded that God is in the small choices we make every day. I've never felt like a world changer, but with all of us doing our small thing for God we can change get the world. Read this book! You will laugh and maybe cry and definitely be encouraged.

Melanie is such a gifted story teller!

Melanie's writing style makes you feel like you're just talking to your very best friend. Her stories are just hilarious and the way they're woven in with spiritual nuggets in this book is the best. Her pop culture references are my most favorite thing ("in the words of Fred Sanford"). I know everyone else thinks this too, but we could totally be best friends in real life :). Another amazing book by a gifted story teller. (definitely not a 2 star review even with a whole chapter about your funny dogs).

Good, not great.

I really loved learning about this woman’s life and how she managed to find joy in all the small things. I do feel like often the point was missing or took a long time to get to. Overall, still worth the read.

Church Of the Small Things

I had to stop reading the other night because I was laughing so loud I was afraid I'd wake the family. Then tonight as I read there were parts that had me crying. Great reminder that it is truly the small things that matter and that God has a plan.

Rediscovering where life matters, in the small things.

This is where life is grand to me. In the 1,000 little moments of everyday conversations and living, being mindful to where I am, intentional in my actions. Church Of The Small Things reminded me of all of these moments, and to treasure them. Melanie is a gifted writer, weaving life stories and lessons seamlessly. Reading her books is like sitting down for coffee, (or cocktail), with a dear friend. You’ll be so glad you took time in these pages and be renewed in the small things.

I really wanted to like this book because of Shankle's previous books

I really wanted to like this book because of Shankle's previous books, (not so much the third or this fourth one; the first two were good) but it was difficult to pin-point what her purpose was in writing the book. I thought it would be encouragement about life's every day small things and how they add up to bigger moments that help us see our lives have meaning...but I think she was running out of ideas (or personal stories) and didn't really have a firm grasp on where she wanted to take this book. The writing style is first-person and the book is a quick and sometimes entertaining read, but not one for the permanent bookshelf.

Good, honest storytelling

I've decided I like Melanie's books because they are honest about what they are. Good, relatable, meaningful stories. It's a breath of fresh air in the Christian women's genre. I read her to enjoy it and not to add on potentially unrealistic cultural expectations. And because she's genuinely funny.

Best book by Melanie yet

I loved this book. So transparent, so real, so gutsy, so needed. Melanie is right-it is the million small pieces that make up a life that matter. Regardless of who you are, you will laugh and cry and think when you read this.

... Melanie's other books and this new one did not disappoint. It made me smile

I have read all of Melanie's other books and this new one did not disappoint. It made me smile, laugh and cry! She has such a great way of taking her own personal stories and making them relatable and get you thinking! Excellent read.

Laugh and enjoy

I loved this book. I laughed out loud so often and enjoyed so many of my own memories reading hers. It is so great to really remember to appreciate the small everyday details of life and most importantly laugh and be grateful.

A new perspective!

This work will be placed on one of my own "best seller" lists! If I did not know better, I would have thought that this was my biography! This forty something lady feels, renewed and refreshed with a new perspective for 2018.

Funny and thought provoking

This author is wonderful. She is funny and makes you think at the same time. She is a Christian writer and gives lots of great examples of how to see God working in your life. I will be looking for her other books.

Good

Good group discussion book!

The best yet

I own and have read all of Melanie Shankle's books and this one is my favorite. I know it sounds cheesy but I laughed and cried the whole way through. This book is a gift of encouragement and I highly recommend it!

Funny and sweet

This was the first book I read by the author and I really enjoyed her writing style! Appreciated her honesty and sense of humor weaved into every story!

Erma and Melanie

As one of her older readers, I can say that Melanie Shankle reminds me of Erma Bombeck, hilarious but with a lot of wisdom packed in to her stories. Loved Erma, love Melanie, love this book!

So good!

Melanie Shankle is one of my favorite authors, and this book was yet another amazing read. I cried, I laughed, and I closed this book wanting nothing more than to celebrate life's little moments. Great book!

Entertaining.

This was an entertain book - nothing deep, but good-hearted and interesting. Really more of a memoir than anything else. It followed closely on Melanie's other three books - if you like them, you'll like this.

Funny, encouraging, relatable

Church of the Small Things is encouraging, refreshing and so funny. I listen to The Big Boo podcast and I love Melanie’s humor. I just got this out of the mailbox today and I’m almost halfway through. It’s brought back such sweet memories from my own childhood. I’ve laughed and cried reading these stories that are so relatable. I needed to be reminded to recognize and cherish the beauty found in the small things.

Melanie has done it again!

I have already read this book once and can't wait to have a hard copy to highlight my favorite passages. I have read all of Melanie's books and I feel like she's my long lost best friend. Her voice just speaks to me.

This book is no small thing!

While I'm probably older than Melanie Shankle's mother, I found my way to her blog 3-4 years ago and adopted her. Her writing style, sense of humor, and willingness to open her heart, faith, and life with her readers have made me not only a blog follower but a reader of her books. And I've passed those books on to my daughters to enjoy and learn from. Church of the Small Things is no exception. I just finished it and laughed, chocked up, and paused to consider. Melanie has given us a gift to reexamine our days and relationships and to appreciate that God's voice is in the little things more than on the mountain top. Now I think at this stage in life I've already figured that out, but boy how I wish I knew it back when my world was filled with raising kids, working, being a wife and daughter and all of the other roles we have. It's a blessing that Melanie's level head, deep faith, and way with words brings these lessons home in such a real way. I highly recommend this books and the lessons cleverly revealed inside.

Buy it....you will love it

Church of the Small Things is a great book!! I have read all of Melanie's book and love those too. THIS book is sweet and so encouraging for moms (or anyone for that matter) who do The Small Things everyday but still question "What is God's will for my life". At the end, you will have a smile on your face and encouragement to keep doing The Small Things!!

Easy read, applicable to anyone seeking God in every day life.

I’m thankful for the application & reminder that the tapestry of God’s plan is woven by the little moments of our every day lives. It’s not just about the big moments, but how we embrace the chaos & beauty in our daily routine.

Wonderful book

It's been a while since I read a book that makes me laugh and cry because it says the things I have thought but never had the guts to say it. Recommend highly.

Such a good book!

This was my first book by Melanie Shankle and it was SO good, she is such a funny author who also speaks truth at the same time! Definitely a must read!

Fantastic!

#ChurchoftheSmallThings is full of funny moments and raw, real life. There are words that cause pause to reflect on the past and words that are relatable to my current stage of life. Melanie does a great job helping the reader truly embrace the small things.

Reads more like a memoir than anything else

I was disappointed in the book. It was basically the author recounting various things throughout get life. I actually didn't mind many of the stories, they were well written and entertaining to read, but by chapter 4 I was expecting her to start tying in some scripture and making points more than "What I wish I knew back then". Again, not badly written, but not what I was looking for at all.

Funny, encouraging, and thoughtful

An encouraging and laugh-out-loud funny book if essays about the joy and purpose to be found in everyday moments.

Read it!

I just loved this book. It’s like sitting with friends hearing stories. We are so more like Jesus in all,the small things as they are what matters

I love all of Melanie Shankle's books and Church of the Small Things did not disappoint. She will make you laugh, think, cry and everything in between.

Nothing inspirational here.

I am a fan of Ree Drummond, and took her recommendation on Facebook about this book. I keep thinking of the term "drivel." I guess I was expecting something more uplifting. Very disappointing

Read it now

I’m only 63% done reading this book and I LOVE it. I have loved everything Melanie Shankle has written. Her books make me actually laugh out loud.

Of life and big hair!

Love it! Took me back to my childhood/teen years on so many pages. I caught myself giggling with memories of big hair and baby oil baked summers! And i cried. And took pictures of my dog who is only five, but won't be here forever and you can never have too many pictures of your puppy! I can't wait to give my best friend a copy of the book. It's a keeper!

So good! Hilarious, tear-jerking, thoughtful, and full of hope!!

Loved this book from cover-to-cover!! Witty, thought-provoking, and full of hope when we all need it! Loved hearing about the 80's teen years through Melanie's stories and it made me laugh and remember my own mishaps! Go get this book!! It's a deceptively light read that packs a punch without you even realizing it until it's over. So much depth in every story and deserves a second look like most of the best works of art do!

Wonderful!

I loved this book! It made made laugh so hard at times my kids wanted to know just what was so funny. It's very thought provoking as well. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed every paragraph!

Melanie has a gift of recognizing the value of daily living. She made me smile and sometimes laugh out loud as she shared her take on regular day to day activities. She warns of the pitfalls of comparison, and encourages her readers to use our God-given talents and opportunities to make our world a better place.

A funny and fast read

Started reading her blog a few weeks ago and found this book! She’s witty and wise! A funny and fast read.... would highly recommend and can’t wait to read her other books!

Cute stories...

This is an autobiography with kernels of insight sprinkled in. It's cute and funny, and is also about people I will never meet, so it's a little difficult to get into. Sweet, though, all the same.

Love her

I have loved Melanie Shankle since Sparkly Green Earrings. She is one of the authors I watch for new releases from, preorder, and count down the days to the publication date for.

So enjoyable!

I love reading profound (or maybe semi-profound) thoughts in a light and entertaining way. Lots to laugh over as well as ponder on.

True words spoken!

This book was funny and a very easy read. It was also fun to think back on my childhood as I was reading this.

Autobiographical

I didn't realize how much of an autobiography this was. That's not what I was looking for.

Loved it!!!!

I loved all the personal stories, struggles, love packed into this book .I loved the reminder that it is the little things that bring the most impact to our lives!

Love, Love This Book!

I was so excited to be on the launch team for this book. I’ve read Melanie’s blog since it first came out (I can’t even remember how I stumbled upon it). I’ve read all her previous books and I look forward to every new podcast episode from her and Sophie (The Big Boo Cast). Year’s ago I even had a fan girl moment when I had the chance to meet her and Sophie (Boomama) at a Living Proof event in Las Vegas years ago. I’m pretty sure they thought I was so strange. I went to them and asked if I could have my picture taken with them, told them I loved their blogs and then my shy, introverted nature kicked in and I left before they could really respond. Not one of my finer moments! It was a pleasure to read this book. I laughed (out loud, much to the embarrassment of my teenager), cried and cheered in agreement to so many of her life stories. I’m also a child of the 80’s so I identified a lot with the same growing up experiences she writes about. I also really enjoyed the lists at the end of some of the chapters. Who doesn't love a good list? Also, it helped me look at the small things in my life and find so much more value than I've noticed before. I would like to thank the author for taking the time to put these words together for such a fun, heart-felt reading experience. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. I’ve already re-read it, highlighted a lot of it and will probably continue re-reading my dog-eared copy as well as the kindle version that I pre-ordered. I highly recommend it.

Great book!

I love all of her books! She is a great author and feels like a friend!

I just devoured this book. I loved it so much and I am sending copies to all of my friends. It spoke to me on so many levels; as a parent, a wife, a friend, and a dynamic woman trying to figure out her place in the world. Thank you Melanie for your words of wisdom and for speaking your truth.

Finding God in the small things

A great reminder to be faithful in the small things because that is where we spend most of our time.

Perfectly written. The words fly off the pages, ending too soon, leaving you with the question "It's really over?" A new favorite for sure!!

I have read all of Melanie Shankle’s books. I love her humor and how she doesn’t sugar coat her life. She’s 100% genuine and I appreciate her honesty. This book did not disappoint. This collection of stories is just what I needed to read at this point in my life. I can’t wait to use the supplemental Bible study as I read through again.

Made Me Laugh Out Loud

I read Melanie's blog, so I knew I'd like this book, but I didn't realize how much! It is funny, insightful and entertaining. Lots of fun🙂

Just Jack

Ever seen the episode from Will and Grace when Jack declares he found his calling and does a one man show called “Just Jack”, come to find out the show is all about Jack. This book doesn’t stray too far from that concept, it’s about the author and her life experiences with the attempt to tell you to enjoy life’s little moments. Opps spoiler.

Amazing

Funny, witty, just amazing. I highly recommend to anyone struggling with the question what is gods purpose for me? And am I doing enough?
