Same great visually rich and easy to digest guide book but with thinner paper in this new edition

Either lighter to carry and/or packed with more info than prior editions? I've always loved this guide book and love these even more. I understand it gets knocked for being a "touristy" guide book vs. other guides (which I also appreciated when I traveled solo). But this is great for family travel and love being able to visually associate places we should see with contextual history and written notes behind them. Thanks to COVID-19, read this + Portugal guide book cover to cover, then had to throw them onto the shelf until next year...

A good guide, as always from DK

I am never really disappointed with DK travel guides they always give a good clear insight into a countries major sites and attractions with a potted history thrown in and of course wonderful photographs and illustrations to enhance thevtext..and this guide to Spain ticks all of the above..recommended

Eyewitness are the best

I have tried numerous Lonely Planet Guides, numerous Rough Guides and I find that the Eyewitness Guides have far more of the information that interests me. And when you have used it, there are so many illustrations that they make a wonderful souvenir.

Nice book but some pertinent information is missing

Nice book , but inter city travel information has not been given and what are the places one can travel from that city is missing - which is very important for a traveller.

Over 600pp. Packed with up to date info, vibrant and lively. Outstanding value

The DK Eyewitness guide to Spain is the next best thing to actually visiting the country. It’s over 600pp, absolutely packed with colour, information, detail and trivia. An excellent taster if you’ve never visited the country and want to get a feel for the culture, food, people and places. Equally, there’s so much information, it’s useful if you want to plan what to do on either a short break or longer holiday. It even includes a section on the Canary Islands. I know we’re largely attuned to Apps and googling, but sometimes a good hard copy book such as this really gives the information we’re looking for, and so much more. I love the colour, feel and quality of the paper and print. It’s tactile and very easy to navigate. The first 60pp give little bite size tasters about the country including a brief history and a simple overview of each of the main areas and cities. The rest of the book is broken down into sections ; Barcelona, Eastern Spain, Northern Spain, Madrid, Central Spain, Southern Pain and Spain’s Islands. Each section is absolutely packed with ideas; short walks, days out, sport, restaurants, museums, places of interest, street plans. It’s an absolute delight to browse and really whets your appetite for food and culture. Although it’s quite chunky, it’s probably the only guide you need wherever you intend to visit. There’s a comprehensive index, all the major travel details are identified, there’s a pull out map of the country, a short section of useful phrases, travel distances by road between major places of interest, public transport info, tipping advice and much more. For virtually every entry, there’s a web address to check out further if you wish. A simply stunning, practical and truly delightful book and outstanding value.

An essential and easy to use guide to Spain

The DK Eyewitness Guides have been our go to travel books for many years, and this guide to Spain is an absolutely fantastic tool for planning your holiday or making the most of your time when in the country. There are over 600 full colour pages with maps, photos and diagrams to get you to your chosen attraction and then explain the history and facts while you are there. There is a brief history of Spain at the start of the book, and each chapter starts with a history of the area to follow to help you get more of an understanding of where you are visiting. There are places to see, where to eat and things to do - well known attractions and lesser known gems to discover. It is all laid out very clearly with opening times, phone numbers and websites where applicable. The final chapter of the book is full of essential information for the traveller such as travel tips, customs and security information and emergency numbers. Maybe the only downside to this book is that it is not really pocket sized, but it will fit into a bag or rucksack easily. If you are planning a trip to Spain then I would suggest that this is the best place to start by a long way.

Comprehensive guide to Spain

This is a hefty guide to Spain. It forms part of the ‘new’ version of DK guidebooks which use non-glossy, thinner (and cheaper feeling) paper and a thinner binding. I also find that there are more photos than previous editors with a reduction in 3D street plans and building cross cuts. I actually preferred those elements of DK books which made them stand out from other guides. More positively at 600 plus pages the lightweight format is somewhat welcome here. Also is a more or less complete revision of the text. This is more than an annual update of the guide. The guide also offers comprehensive coverage of Spain - but lacks much on hotels, restaurants and practical information. After almost 70 pages of background information including a history of the country and Spain from those seeking music, food, wine and more. The remainder of the book is devoted to regional sections covering the whole of Spain including the Canary Islands and the Balearics but not Spain’s small North African holdings. Gibraltar is included but this section only stretches to about 200 words! There’s also a short section of practicalities. Whilst I don’t like the new format this guide works pretty well. Four stars.

Over 600 pages!

This is a very comprehensive travel/tourist guidebook, with plenty of colour photographs, maps and mini reviews. Its divided into different geographical areas and contains a plethora of suggested things to do, places to eat and even has a few cultural and historical references. We are about to go to Benalmádena, and have found this a really useful guide to help us plan things to do on our holiday.

Sketches of Spain

A pretty decent guide which is certainly worthwhile for a last minute mini break, where you haven't got the time to do cursory online research yourself. For a trip of a few days or more, or if you have more time to research and plan your trip yourself, this is not the most informative guide as there isn't much "off the beaten track" or that you cannot easily find elsewhere.

Lovely guide.

Fantastic travel guide, over 600 pages of useful information, photos, maps, advices, places worth visiting, where to stay, what to eat, how much it may cost, etc. The guide also gives us the information about history, famous architecture, times we can visit it, online link. It an absolute 'all in one' tourist needs. Beautiful, essential guide book, worth to have when planning trip to Spain..
