Style has changed... for the better?
I absolutely LOVE DK Eyewitness Travel guides, and DK books in-general. This was my 12th. This new style... it's not my favorite. I know matte-looking photos are all the rage, and the photos found inside are beautiful, but they're darker it seems... less clear. The whole style has changed... my wife likes it a lot... so know that if you purchase a 2020 Eyewitness book. It's still well put-together, but I chose DK books precisely because of their visual style, which has now changed. I'll definitely buy more of these books, but will look for the pre-2020 versions...
Great guide
DK's Eyewitness guides are great -- straightforward info on what places there are to see, why they are important/interesting, and how to find them. Their guides help you make an educated plan on how to best to use your time on your vacation to see what you want to see -- not what someone else thinks you should see. This is the 3rd DK Eyewitness guide I've had (Florence, London and also this Paris version) and they have all been great. Includes a laminated pocket-sized map that is also quite helpful
Excellent guide!
Great pictures, up-to-date information. Very complete, only wish is that it had more restaurant recommendations.
The pictures mean more than words.
My favorite of all the travels guides because of the pictures used for practically everything they mention. No other guide book compares. If you buy more than one make sure this is your first choice.
Production quality not what it used to be
First, of course the book has great descriptions and information. But the quality? Meh. What happened? The pages of these guides used to be filled with rich, glossy photos. (I have collected about a dozen over the years,) Not any more. Just regular paper. Such a disappointment.
Good travel tips
Good book with some excellent tips.
Awesome
Very useful, great content, easy to use. My go to guide since 2002.

Perfect trip planner
Being lucky enough to have travelled a few times in the past, I’ve learned that it certainly pays to plan a city trip to a certain degree before you travel. Note the ‘Must See’ and the ‘if we have time’s’. You can then plan your days accordingly, saving you darting To and from one end of the city to another unnecessarily. That said, if you’re not much of a planner, or don’t know what you need to see, this book breaks it down for you. It introduces you to what Paris has to offer, but it also provides itinerary’s Depending on how long you intend to visit Be it ; 5 hours, 24 hours or 3 days; breaking it down to morning/afternoon and evening. The book itself it filled with lots of interesting places to visit, things to do, things to see. It also has an interesting section on ‘Paris through the year’ so, depending on when you visit, you can plan accordingly; be it ‘Rock en Seine’ a major international rock music festival at the end of August or ‘Foire du Trône’ (funfair held in Bois de Vincennes) in March. Though the book itself won’t fit in your pocket, in my own opinion, it’s not too big that you couldn’t carry it in your bag. If you did chose to leave it behind in your hotel room, there is a removal map in the back with a handy plastic coated surface. Perfect if the rain comes, or if you wanted to circle where you’re off to in a non permanent ink. Due to the current Pandemic, I’ve not had a chance to use this book for my cancelled trip, but I will certainly be taking it when this all blows over.
Oh la la
The DK eyewitness books are great for city breaks. The short walks are always informative and interesting and a breakdown of each area and the treasures they hold, gives a great insight into the city.

Informative, Accessible- The Leader In Travel Guides
If you are wise before making that journey to a country, region or city in any part of the world choosing a travel guide is an important and I would say an essential part of the trip. There are a lot of books, guides on the market so how to select the right one. This particular one is the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Paris: 2020. I have to mention that I have used DK Travel Guides previously and have never been disappointed so what to make of this one? The first feature which is recognisable is that the guide is well researched, planned and as up to date as events allow. (I am thinking about Notre Dame which due to the tragic fire is closed to tourists.) The guide is in three segments -Discover, Experience, Need to Know. The Discover section is essentially an outline of the city, including its history, a suggested itinerary for those who have limited time, from five hours, 24 hours, three days and so on. A new feature is recommendations for art lovers, photographers, families, foodies, on a shoestring and history buffs. I particularly welcome this part because it drills down into what you are looking for on the journey. The Experience section breaks each principal area of the city into 'bite sized chunks.' For example Montmartre and pigalle, Opera and Grand Boulevards, Louvre and Les Halles, Eiffel Tower and Invalides. You will find it all here -including suggestions for short walks. Opening times for places like the Louvre, the highlights and 'must see' are very helpful for the 'first time' visitor. There are also tips for eating places of which there are many. This is a valuable part of the book. Finally the need to know segment. It gives you advice with a 'before you go' covering currency, customs, insurance, and all of it important. Getting around is a rundown on public transport whether arriving by air, train or car. For those arriving by air, I would consider the RATP Roissybus which has regular services. I have used and it is cheaper than the shuttle or taxi. There is a helpful map of the city included within the back of the guide-which is detachable and much easier to refer to when moving around rather than the whole book. So, overall this is a comprehensive, helpful, informative and accessible guide to Paris. Recommended.
A good illustrated guide book which covers a great deal but with a light touch.
When I visit an unfamiliar city or region abroad I look for 2 sorts of guide books: the illustrated highlights kind that whets the appetite with attractive photographs of recommendations, the kind of thing I try to borrow from a library; the other is the thorough, more wordy kind, for me generally the ever reliable Rough Guides which have few pictures and lots of text, including sufficient space for a range of recommendations for eating, drinking and possible places to stay at various budget levels. The latter is the kind I buy, that I might well take with me to get information on the go. This book is very definitely the first kind. It is very nicely presented with lots of photographs in full colour, diagrammatic cross sections of notable buildings, a handful of listings for each subdivision of the city. A rather gorgeous shop window that entices you in and makes you want to investigate further. It’s sufficiently up to date to have the devastating fire in Norte Dame included at the end of its historic timeline, but those pages are otherwise as though nothing had happened. The various parts of the city have their own sections and subsections and are very much like good thumbnail sketches. And this book will rightly appeal to first time visitors particularly: it’s well done, is sturdy with section-sewn pages, a pull out map which is protected with some sort of shiny finish and unlikely to tear on second or third use like some Lonely Planet in-book maps, nor wilt if caught in a shower. But if, say you want a reasonably thorough account of what’s in the Louvre, this is not quite the book for that. Though my own preference is for something rather more detailed and thoroughly inclusive, that sort of guide book is not for everyone. This is a thoroughly recommendable guide, not daunting because so full of information, but with enough to get by and also to tempt with beautifully presented images.
Fantastic guide - everything you need to know
This is slightly larger than a pocket guide in size (although it will fit neatly into a handbag or backpack). It is full of all the information you might need for a trip to Paris. Early chapters give an overview of different subjects (food, families, .off the beaten track, Paris on a shoestring etc) plus short guides for things to do if you are there for a few hours, a day or 3 days. Later chapters cover Paris in more detail including sections on different geographical area of the city. Websites of places of interest, addresses and nearest Metro stations are given. Comprehensive maps, including a Metro map are included. There are also loads of photographs The book is up to date, even mentioning the fire that devastated the Notre Dame earlier in 2019. Buy this book before you go and it will enable to to plan to make the most of your visit and if you’ve already been, you can review what you have seen and the things you missed so you can include them in your next visit.
Excellent, informative and well presented guide
This new 2020 edition of the DK guide to Paris ticks all the boxes for what a good guide book should. Clear information is well presented useful for both the regular and first time visitor to Paris. Although I have visited Paris on a number of occasions I will find this guide very useful as it has up to date info on the transport system and tickets as well as copious amounts of info about sights, hotels and restaurants etc. The maps for each area are clear and the book also encloses a neat pocket map. All in all this is an excellent up to date guide, well illustrated, which can be highly recommended.
Excellent.
Only ever briefly visited Paris once but it is on the to do list. This book is the size of a paperback novel and full of facts and pictures. There is nothing you could want to know about Paris not included. I actually read it like a book and enjoyed it. The map in the back cover has a wipe clean coated surface so all the folding and unfolding will not tear or damage it. Can't wait to try everything they recommend in the book and see it for myself. This and the London travel guide that they also do are both excellent.
Excellent to whet your travel appetite
I love this series as one of the best to whet your appetite for a trip: packed full of mouth-watering colour pics, up-to-date, themed tours (history, art, food etc.), pull-out map and metro guide. It's bigger than some guides but I used the equivalent New York guide last year and it really enhanced the trip with secret things to do and see. This is the ideal complement to the larger DK France guide.
Informative overview
This guidebook gives a good informative overview of the main places to see in the Paris the city into sections so that you can clearly see what there is to do in each area. An excellent guide to inspire your visit and provide you with a base plan of things to do and see.
Easily the best guide I have seen
DK have surpassed even their high standards with this 2020 version. The organsisation and presentation is great, and the detachable map is excellent. Read this before you go, to organise your time most efficiently. This will suit all tastes, bugets, and time avaialable.
