DARK AGENDA: The War to Destroy Christian America

Few know the inside working of the communist left like David Horowitz. Not only was he raised by communist party member parents, but he was one of the principle founders of the New Left during the 1960s and 1970s. He has a powerful intellectual mind that can not only retain a great deal of facts and historical events, but he astutely analyzes these facts with an insight that is difficult to compare. He is one of the great minds of the modern world. This book should be included in the reading material of all high school children as well as university and college students. It is difficult for the rational mind to comprehend how anyone possessing a rational mind could disagree with the major themes of this most important work. The radical left is destroying the very fabric of a compassionate, orderly and Christian world with lies, distortions, violence, false history and intimidation. Perhaps this will wake up some of these stuporous minds.

As an individual who wrote articles for the left and has a true understanding of their motivations Horowitz writes another insightful expose of their plans. "Dark Agenda" is an excellent book - as are many of his books. To be anti-Christian is no different than being anti-Semitic. As a Jew I know that Christianity as a worldview received most of its values from ours. It is the closest world religion to Judaism. Attacks on Christians and their values is an attack on Judaism as well and many values which we hold as true. This book explains in detail how the Left is attacking Christians and their values. Regardless of how one feels about Christianity, the concept of demonizing a group based on their religion is unacceptable. We Jews were singled out for hate in Germany which ultimately led to the Holocaust. This kind of hate should never happen again for any group. Learn about the real reason the Left attacks Christians. It is not because they understand Christianity (they don't) and choose not to be believers. The true reason is much more nefarious as Horowitz reveals.

As I read this book I was struck by the fact that the author does not seem fully rational. For example, he claims that President Reagan's nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Robert Bork, in 1987 was defeated by a "vicious" attack on his character and judgement by Senator Ted Kennedy. I remember the Saturday Night Massacre in October of 1973. When President Richard Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox; Richardson refused and resigned. Nixon then ordered Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox; Ruckelshaus refused, and also resigned. Nixon then ordered the third-most-senior official at the Justice Department, Solicitor General Robert Bork, to fire Cox. And Bork did it. I always considered that to show a fatal flaw in Bork's judgement. On page 107 of the book is a bold misstatement of fact when writing about the public attitudes toward interracial marriage. He writes that in 1958 only 4 % of whites approved of interracial marriages but by 2013 the approval rate had jumped to 87%. He continues, "There was no Supreme Court decision that declared interracial marriage to be a constitutional right." He is ignoring the decision of Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1, on June 12, 1967 the U.S. Supreme Court struck down all state laws banning interracial marriage as violations of the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A clear synopsis of 50 years of the characters, history and ideology of the “progressive” assault on the white Protestant Christian values which establish the idea of America. Uniquely, and unapologetically, Horowitz describes how the core Protestant Christian RELIGIOUS beliefs, “justification by faith,” and “the priesthood of all believers,” established the idea of America: checks and balances, equally before the law, freedom of conscious, and diversity. By contrast, Dark Agenda is a concise, chilling book brimming with evidence that links numerous cultural depredations to one overriding theme: The left’s attack on Christian America’s founding in the name of “cultural Marxism.” “Christian America” is the novel component in Horowitz’s analysis, a term that acknowledges the historical fact that America, at its founding, was 98 percent Protestant. Protestantism, in turn, was intimately linked to the doctrine of “the priesthood of all believers” and to the more broadly Christian idea that all people are created by God. In view of these beliefs and the fact that Protestant groups were living side by side, it followed that in America there would be no institutional or governmental mediator between the individual and God. It also meant that each individual’s rights were endowed solely by their Creator and that freedom of conscience and speech would be hallmarks of the new republic. “Cultural Marxism,” by contrast, represents the application of its “oppressor versus oppressed” vision of society to various victim groups: blacks, “people of color,” women, native Americans, homosexuals, transsexuals, and any other group claiming victimhood. For Marxists what stands between these oppressed groups and a world in which “social justice” and equality is fully realized are the oppressors, those who supposedly establish the laws and mores that keep them in power. Thus, failure or success isn’t the result of individual choices but the inevitable outcome of a system designed to unfairly help one group (white, Christian, males) and harm the others. Put quite simply, “Christian doctrines were foundational to the American Republic, which the left despises.” After reading the last two paragraphs, one might think Dark Agenda is highly philosophical and abstract. This impression couldn’t be further from the truth, as these core ideas are given clear expression and development via an array of examples, many of which are doubtless unknown to even the most politically-astute readers. Who knew, for example, that the $621 million U.S. Capitol Visitor Center that opened in 2008 “is less a monument to the nation’s founding and institutions than it is to the anti-religious left’s vision for America. When it opened, all references to God and faith had been carefully, deliberately edited out of its photos and historical displays.” For example, the national motto was said to be “E Pluribus Unum” when, in fact, it is “In God We Trust.” Among other historical travesties, a large “image of the Constitution was photoshopped to remove the worlds ‘in the Year of our Lord’ above the signatures of the signers.” Similarly, the “table on which President Lincoln placed his Bible during his second inauguration is on display -- just the table, not the Bible.” These examples are picayune compared to the spiteful governmental coercion that’s been employed to force The Little Sisters of the Poor, among others, to violate their consciences thanks to Obamacare abortion provisions. The Supreme Court has been the giant secular lever employed by leftists to fundamentally transform “Christian America” into a state hostile even to a school-girl who joined hands with classmates to give thanks for her food. These politically-motivated “lawyers,” as Horowitz contemptuously labels the high court, began their anti-Christian, anti-Constitutional mission with the expulsion of prayer from public schools in 1962 (Engel v. Vitale). That assault on the free exercise of religion now extends beyond commencement ceremonies and football fields to a bakery that was embroiled in legal battles for years for refusing to provide a celebratory cake for a gay wedding -- a “crime” made possible by Court rulings against the Defense of Marriage Act and in favor of same-sex marriage. The case of Roe v. Wade (1972) that awakened religious conservatives to the fundamental attack on Christian America is cogently dissected in Dark Agenda, both from a Constitutional perspective as well as through the eyes of Norma McCorvey, the anonymous “Jane Roe” who was intentionally deceived and reduced to a legal prop to secure the Supreme Court’s “right to privacy” abortion ruling. (As Horowitz notes, in Marxist thought it’s the grand arc of history and oppressed groups that matter, not mere individuals.) That ruling officially brought about the cultural civil war that for the anti-Christian left involves not simply a virulent hatred of President Trump but also hatred directed toward his supporters who are regularly vilified as Nazis, sexists, racists, homophobes, and “deplorables” who are rightly denied freedom of speech and conscience. Trump’s Oval Office predecessor did his best to stoke these emotions as Horowitz’s litany of anti-Christian comments and actions by President Obama illustrate -- from avoiding religious references during a traditional Thanksgiving ceremony to pursuit of a foreign policy that led to the annihilation of the ancient Christian community in Syria. Among the sidebars accompanying Horowitz’s central narrative are insights into the abusive and mendacious character of atheist Madelyn Murray. For example, in 1960 Murray “set out with her two sons . . . intending to renounce her American citizenship and defect to the Soviet Union.” Her repeated attempts at emigration were rebuffed by the Soviets who were probably aware of her emotional instability and violent outbursts. Murray’s revolutionary predecessor, Margaret Sanger, was also a communist sympathizer and racist. A 1930 article in The New Yorker about Ms. Sanger noted that her monthly newspaper, Woman Rebel, “mixed its birth-control propaganda with a good deal of red-flag-waving, and perorations of the ‘Workers of the World, Arise!’ variety.” The author also observed that she “composed an editorial declaring: ‘Even if dynamite were to serve no other purpose than to call forth the spirit of revolutionary solidarity and loyalty, it would prove its great value.’” Horowitz ends Dark Agenda with this chilling paragraph reminiscent of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address: “A nation divided by such fundamental ideas -- individual freedom on one side and group identity on the other -- cannot long endure, any more than could a nation that was half slave and half free. The urgency that drew the religious right into politics fifty years ago is now an urgency of the nation itself.” Even individuals well aware of the cultural Civil War that now rages in America would do well do arm themselves with the insights in this book -- insights that both explain the ideological roots of the conflict and document a host of grievous wounds that “Christian America” has already suffered. Horowitz, an honest agnostic, is doing his best to prevent those wounds from becoming mortal. This is a book the world could do without. It is designed to divide the nation with a false narrative of Christian persecution and a massive rewriting of American history and law. The goal is to implement Christian nationalism over the dead bodies of the Supreme Court and universal rights of conscience. Important note on this review: False claims are easy to make and require few words. When bogus claims are made in quantity, they project an impressive aura of authority. Showing it to be false is more difficult. This review is therefore longer than normally desirable. I examined five major sections of the book, according to my interests and background. These are 1) the Protestant Right of Personal Judgment (vs Christian nationalism), 2) Prayer in public schools, 3) the Right to Privacy (abortion), 4) racism in American history, and 5) the actions / role of the Supreme Court. The factual distortions are so severe that a single review could adequately cover only one. Significant detail is necessary because the level of dishonesty is so far out of the norm as to defy belief. This review, therefore, deals only with prayer plus a smattering of absurd racial revisionist history. In New York, the government got together with representatives of the Jewish, Protestant and Catholic faiths and wrote a short, generic prayer. "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our country. Amen." It was challenged by a coalition of Jewish and Ethical Culturalists. The prayer was declared unconstitutional by the 1962 Engel v Vitale Supreme Court decision. They said it violated the First Amendment's Establishment Clause, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" Unfortunately, Chapter 5, Prayer in the Schools, severely misrepresents both the decision and the current situation on every major point. It is true that kids were sometimes mistakenly denied the right to pray on their own. Many schools did not understand the ruling. Over the years, however, schools finally came to realize that the issue is government sponsorship of religion, not prayer per se. Students are free to pray on their own, singly or in groups, so long as it is not run by school personnel and doesn't disrupt instruction. This is settled law and well understood. The annual See-You-At-The-Pole day, is a national event in which Christian students gather around the flagpole before school to pray. It has been running since 2006 and is a significant event in many Christian communities. Furthermore, guidelines for acceptable religious expression in schools are posted on many conservative religious websites. It was litigated by the (Christian) Rutherford Institute and is supported by the ACLU. Yet on page 48, he comments, "The framers … wrote the First Amendment to prevent the suppression of religious freedom that is now epidemic in American schools. The First Amendment expressly guarantees a child's right to voluntarily pray, and to write about and speak about his or her religious beliefs, openly and freely in front of other students. Yet teachers, administrators, and even school cafeteria workers now regard it as their responsibility to police small children to prevent them from expressing their religious beliefs. This can all be traced to a disastrous Supreme Court decision …." These claims are obviously false. His real complaint is that public schools can no longer be used to coerce students into a particular religious view. On p 56, he claims, "The schools could not describe the religious origins of American freedoms without violating Engel v Vitale." NO! and NO! Engel was about prayer, not textbooks. Nonetheless, it is clear that religious subjects and history are fine as long as they are not intended to proselytize. Knowledge is good, but indoctrination is not. Horowitz is attempting to build the case that government neutrality is a betrayal of our history and is intended to attack Christianity. He conspicuously fails to mention the Court's reasoning in the Vitale case. "Its (the Establishment Clause) first and most immediate purpose rested on the belief that a union of government and religion tends to destroy government and to degrade religion. The history of governmentally established religion, both in England and in this country, showed that whenever government had allied itself with one particular form of religion, the inevitable result had been that it had incurred the hatred, disrespect and even contempt of those who held contrary beliefs. That same history showed that many people had lost their respect for any religion that had relied upon the support of government to spread its faith." "The Establishment Clause thus stands as an expression of principle on the part of the Founders of our Constitution that religion is too personal, too sacred, too holy, to permit its 'unhallowed perversion' by a civil magistrate." "Another purpose of the Establishment Clause rested upon an awareness of the historical fact that governmentally established religions and religious persecutions go hand in hand." Government neutrality allows the various faith communities - and those lacking faith - to live together in harmony. If a faith needs propping up at taxpayer expense, it probably deserves to die. Horowitz similarly abuses the next important prayer case, Wallace v Jaffree, on page 54. "… the Supreme Court ruled that an Alabama law permitting one minute for 'meditation or voluntary prayer' was unconstitutional. The decision defies reason, since even an atheist could not object to 'meditation,' …" In fact, the law allowed teachers to have group readings of prayer, including the (Protestant) Lord's prayer. The law's author acknowledged that it was intended to bring prayer back to schools. A previous law allowed for a minute of silent meditation and it was unchallenged. As usual, Horowitz distorts the message to claim objection to the minute of silence instead of government- led prayer. Horowitz complains that the decision lacks legal precedent. This is true, and for good reason. The Bill of Rights originally applied only to the federal government. The 14th Amendment ("…nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.") mandated that certain rights had to be respected by the states. As a result, the Court ruled in the 1940 Cantwell decision, that the states had to respect both the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses. It took another twenty years for a prayer case (Engel) to reach the Supreme Court. The 14th Amendment forced the new precedent that banned formerly routine behavior. I'd also like to touch on his extreme historical revisionism concerning race. On page 196, he writes, "Prior to Roe, postwar America had … a stable cohesive society that was multiethnic, multiracial, multireligious, and free." Wow! My personal recollection is that the nation was embroiled in race riots, segregationist-inspired murders, and integration battles that shook the nation. His description has *never* been true in the United States. "Interracial sexual relationships that once could have provoked lynchings are now accepted as normal. How did this happen? There was no Supreme Court decision that declared interracial marriage to be a constitutional right. This result was achieved through years of conversation and persuasion throughout our culture." NO! In the 1950s, half the states - including all the Bible Belt states - had laws banning interracial marriage. Some were felonies. They were declared unconstitutional in Loving v Virginia (1967). Chief Justice Warren wrote, "Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not, a person of another race resides with the individual, and cannot be infringed by the state." In summary, Horowitz mischaracterizes very court case and every constitutional principle. Most of his historical references are nothing short of transparent fantasy. Dark Agenda is stunningly dishonest. Worse, the distortions deliberately exacerbate racial animosity, national polarization, hostility to the religious rights of others, and de-legitimize the Supreme Court as protector of minority rights. It's a telling point that Mike Huckabee, Gary Bauer and Tucker Carlson endorse the book - shining lights of the Religious Right. Alan Dershowitz should be (figuratively) disbarred for his support. Dark Agenda's means-justify-the-end methodology puts the lie to the Religious Right's Absolute Values. The Culture War isn't ultimately about conservative Christian morality. It's a scorched-earth power swindle in the service of Christian nationalism.

This book itself is a dark agenda.

This was an incredibly intelligent retrospective on the last thirty years of cultural decline. This is a book well-worth reading by a serious man who has pondered serious issues. David Horowitz is particularly engaging because he follows the logic of his arguments, rather than being compelled by his ideological allegiances. For example, although Horowitz states simply that he is an agnostic, he recognizes the importance of religion, particularly Christianity for the American liberal culture that he wants to survive. His chief argument in the book is that Progressive Leftism's particularly project is to destroy Christianity as a competing worldview. Given Horowitz's non-partisan status, from a religious standpoint at least, the reader would be well-advised to give weight to these arguments. Horowitz observes: "Do not mistake this as a parochial issue, affecting only a persecuted religious community. In America, the war against Christians is not merely a war against an embattled religion. It is a war against an imperiled nation—a war against this nation and its founding principles: the equality of individuals and individual freedom. For these principles are indisputably Christian in origin. They are under siege because they are insurmountable obstacles to radicals’ totalitarian ambition to create a new world in their image. I know this in my bones because I was born into a family of political radicals. We were a community of atheist Jews who described ourselves as “progressives” and identified our tribe as a persecuted people. The religious holidays we observed were Chanukah and Passover, whose texts were drawn from the history of that people and whose lessons, as we interpreted them, were about freedom from oppression. We purposely did not attend religious services on the High Holy Days—the Days of Awe. These holidays were about individual guilt and repentance. They were about making amends for misdeeds toward one’s fellow human beings and settling accounts with the Hebrew God. In short, the Days of Awe were about the state of individual souls. As progressives and world-changers, we were not interested in the fate of individual souls. Our cause was the salvation of mankind. We wanted justice for oppressed classes and races, and we looked at synagogues as reactionary institutions—houses of superstition whose prayers and preaching served to keep the oppressed in line. I eventually came to understand that my parents and their friends referred to themselves as “progressives” to hide their true faith, which was Communism. For them, Communism was the vision of a future in which the long history of social injustice would finally come to an end. When I eventually rejected this illusion, I realized that their atheistic creed was itself a form of religious faith. Their God was History, which they viewed as an inexorable march to a promised land." These observations are in line with observations made by sociologists about the historical results of the Communist project of eradicating religion in order to create an atheist utopia. The problem, of course, with utopias set in this world is that the Utopia never arises, but rather draws farther and farther away as they find themselves creating their own particular Hell. Horowitz isn't the first former Communist to note this fact, but his kind of convert seems to be far rarer than was the case in earlier times. For me, Horowitz's discussion about the history of Leftist enablement of the AIDS epidemic was particularly informative. I've been amazed at how much hard-earned knowledge we've tossed away about hygiene. My grandparents dealt with children dying of Scarlet Fever and Whooping Cough. When I was growing up those diseases were deemed to have been eradicated from America. But today they are back. Why? Well, the arrival of old diseases with new illegal immigration is an obvious cause, but so is the tearing down of common-sense hygiene in the name of ...progress? civil rights? I'm not sure. Nonetheless, in city after city we are hear about the epidemic of human defecation on the streets and how needs are left lying around. It took civilization thousands of years to get people to stop spitting in the streets, but today in the name of compassion we can't wash down the streets without fear that some leftist will compare that to Bull Connor turning the hoses on Civil Rights protesters. (True story, by the way.) Horowitz reminds us of the AIDS epidemic and how it was largely contained to the homosexual community in three cities. Application of the normal policies of public hygiene would have nipped the crisis in the bud, but our elites found themselves without the will to protect gays from themselves (because despite what was said, AIDS was never going to be a heterosexual problem.) Rather than treat AIDS as a disease, it was treated as a civil rights issue. The result was deadly. In fact, though, curbing the disease would have required backing away from the ideology that facilitated its existence. Horowitt explains: "The gay radicals kept the bathhouses open as “symbols of the revolution.” They shut down the testing and contact-tracing programs, which would have exposed the path of the epidemic, allowing health officials to warn those in its path. The radicals did, however, agree on one prophylactic measure to save lives: the use of condoms to practice “safe sex.” The gay community leaders turned it into a campaign with posters proclaiming “Safe Sex Is Hot Sex.”23 Unlike other measures to prevent the spread of disease, condom use was not viewed as “homophobic” by the gay community and wouldn’t interfere with the liberated lifestyle. Using condoms was prudent advice, but it relied on the responsible behavior of individuals. Responsibility, on the other hand, was precisely the moral characteristic that gay liberation had thrown to the winds. Condom use also brought the activists up against the moral positions of their Christian nemesis, the Catholic Church. The church advocated sexual abstinence and opposed prophylactic measures, even though condoms didn’t serve a contraceptive purpose in gay sex. In a statement titled, “Call to Compassion,” the Catholic bishops warned against the notion of safe sex because it “compromises human sexuality and can lead to promiscuous behavior.” Promiscuous behavior was, of course, the rallying cry of the liberationists—and the root cause of the epidemic." I am currently reading a lot on World War I. I am reminded of the fact that virulence of the Spanish Flu was created by the conditions of the war, which put a lot of soldiers in close proximity, where virulent diseases could spread quickly before burning out, and by the conditions of the home front where millions starved. Without those conditions there probably would not have been a pandemic that killed more people than were killed in combat. The gay culture prior to AIDS offered a similar favorable environment. Horowitz explains: "Callen later founded People With AIDS, and, in a courageously candid reflection, wrote: Unfortunately, as a function of a microbiological . . . certainty, this level of sexual activity resulted in concurrent epidemics of syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis, amoebiasis, venereal warts and, we discovered too late, other pathogens. Unwittingly, and with the best of revolutionary intentions, a small subset of gay men managed to create disease settings equivalent to those of poor third-world nations in one of the richest nations on earth.8 Nor did the diseases remain stable. The enteric diseases—amebiasis, gay bowel syndrome, giardiasis, and shigellosis—were followed by an epidemic of hepatitis B, which Randy Shilts called “a disease that had transformed itself, via the popularity of anal intercourse, from a blood-borne scourge into a venereal disease.”9 The hepatitis B virus was transmitted in exactly the same way as the newly identified AIDS virus." It seems clear that the medical elites must have known that something like AIDS was going to show up, but no Progressive has ever apologized to many who died as a result of such obvious violations of basic hygiene. Sexual permissiveness was too valuable a good to compromise for mere lives. And now we are constructing a similar environment on the streets of Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco. There is much of value in this book. It should be widely read.

A concise chronology of the systematic destruction of the underpinnings of America by the left that accounts for the dire situation we are now in: a second Civil War. David Horowitz's absolutely brilliant insights coupled with his exceptional and easy-to-read writing style makes this book mandatory reading for every American who is concerned about the future of our country; and for all those who have wondered how we got to this heart breaking point in our history. I have lived through most of the events discussed in "Dark Agenda" but even though I have given lots of thought to our current political plight, it took this book to connect the dots. And then, OMG! It all makes sense now.

I've read several of his books. He's given me an education that is priceless. I highly recommend Dark Agenda and his other books.

Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation1: "First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." First they came for the Christians, but I was a Jew? I think Horowitz has to have this on his mind in writing this book. The author knows that if Christianity in our Country is at risk, then so are Jews, and so is our entire Country. He clearly shows historically how our cultural elite via the judicial and other government agencies have been plotting to ban Christianity from our Country. Other books by Christians have written books that deal with various battles in the war, but the author encapsulates them all in a master plot to banish Christianity from the public square. And he does so in a clear, personable and readable form. Highly recommend this book.

Booring book! Not sure he is a Christian either so not sure what I am reading. I think he is right about what is happening, but little too drawn-out.

Expected a look into how Judeo Christian ideas influenced the founding fathers. One chapter. Rest of the book is a collection of well known events arranged chronologically which leads nowhere. Boring read.

This is an amazing revelation of the total corruption permeating our government school systems. The attack, not only on common decency, but the all-out animosity toward anything Christian is appalling. Caring, thinking and decent people who love their children and the future of our country, would do well to explore other options for education. Charter Schools, Homeschool, Private School are all far more difficult and expensive but we are now reaping the 50 or 60 years of socialistic, Prayerless, Godless environment given to us with our "free education". There is no way to calculate the social and spiritual damage done to 5 generations. It has been far from "free" as we now reap the whirlwind of division, hatred, school killings and children who learn nothing of the Lord, the Bible or the fact they were born in the image of God and came into the world as male and female.. What I find amazing about the pointed nature of the warnings in this book is the insight gained by the author who is a professing agnostic. I love his honesty and levelheadedness. It is refreshing. Every parent with children in school should read it.

This is a short book that punches above its’ weight and is required reading for anyone who wants to understand the Left’s motives and agenda for America, which is its’ ultimate destruction. Horowitz exposes leftist ideology by the behavior and its’ followers and the words of its’ leaders, giving special emphasis to the Supreme Court in the 1960s and 70s and the very specific anti-Christian agenda of Barack Obama and his administration, painting a portrait of how only a handful of people nearly succeeded in destroying America by 2016. The book may be a wake up call for some but it should be a stark warning to all that the job of saving America is not done, indeed it has only begun.

This is my first experience reading a David Horowitz treatise on politics in America. As a Christian and as a conservative, I found this book to be quite a revelation as to why things are so bad between the Leftists and the rest of the nation’s citizens. He shows extensive evidence of how hatred of freedom directs the Left’s agenda to destroy everything that has made America the “Promised Land”. I am so impressed with David Horowitz’ ability to weave into an extraordinary tome what would otherwise be a very dry subject for an upper level history or civics class at a conservative university. I very highly recommend this book to any and all who want to understand the truth of what the Left is striving diligently to achieve. Now, on to the next David Horowitz book.

Dark Agenda is only a voice only DVD. It has 12 articles which have around 45 min. recording time (total of 4 hrs) listening and very interesting to set back and listen. Lots of details.

This book is frightening in its honesty and it’s predictions. If you’re a Christian and have been concerned about the road this country is going down, this may fill in the blanks as to the force behind it, and the determination of those who want to make you an enemy in your own country. He points out very truthful facts that you may have suspected but weren’t sure it was true! If this country, built on a Christian philosophy, is to survive action must be taken now! Twenty years from now will be too late!

Be prepared to set down this book, from time to time, because its revelations will anger you so much you will not be able to continue reading. Hats off for David Horowitz, thank you for your tireless efforts and work defending our constitutional republic's most basic principles and sharing your many decades of study with us. A must read for every patriot!

David Horowitz is at his best in telling us "nothing but the facts, sir" He writes with a chilling understanding of the hard left, having been a left-wing radical himself. The book is powerful and a compelling short history of the extreme divisions in this country. He gives the best explanation of why Americans who want religious freedom as well as sharing a commitment to our original constitutional principals voted for Trump. A must read if you want a clear-eye view of the of where we are today.

A most disturbing book which correctly analyzes the source of our falling away from the Founders' intent. Horowitz, though claiming to be a Jewish agnostic, knows more about the Christian Faith than believers - and his tracing of the damage of the Supreme Court is so well documented. A most alarming call to arms - well written, too true - I couldn't put it down and pray that our country will recover its roots before socialism rears its ugly head. I can't help but think that this rash of shootings is another manifestation of our removal of anything about God from public places. Even a non-religious person should see the value of, e.g., honoring one's father and mother, no murdering, no adultery etc - all enshrined in the Ten Commandments and our country's founding.

Common sense, truth and wisdom are recognized in the writings (and teachings) of David Horowitz as is the case for many conservative voices. Notice how the “left” continues to make extraordinary efforts (time and $$) to quiet these voices? Progressive liberals in the mainstream media, academia and Hollywood do not teach…they indoctrinate young minds whereas a fairminded adult would present BOTH sides (liberalism and conservatism) thus enabling the student to make his/her OWN assessment! Truth simply exposes the “left” therefore is portrayed as “harmful” and not allowed. Since taxpayers represent ALL parties (Republicans, Democrats, Independants and so on), neither the state or federal government should fund ANY public institution that promotes ONE-SIDED indoctrination! Looking at the GPA, behaviour, dress code (or lack of) and attitudes of public school students today (c/o bad parents), does anyone believe their “teachers” have earned a pay raise or the right to teach or the right to protest other schools (Charter/private) that are in fact, producing results? Today’s public school is no longer a place of learning, but a daycare center. Thank you Mr. Horowitz, for taking the time to educate in a way where so many have fallen short.

Mr. Horowitz rightly reviews the causes of deep divide in our country. These forces of liberalism are fueled by Marxist ideas and catalyzed by anti-God agendas. No matter what your religious beliefs this nation is under attack and everyone must get involved in teaching right principles to the millennial generation before we lose our freedoms.

Captivating. Well written I could not put it down This book covered the era of my birth until now. A behind the scenes look of the past 60 years and how the left took control. Highly recommend

If you want further assurance/evidence that this country has moved dangerously to the far left, then this book will provide that proof. It jogged my memory regarding historical reminders of steps along the way that brought us to this point. A good read, but with fewer words per page and fewer pages, I somehow felt that I didn't get my money's worth compared to most of my recent book purchases... ...UPDATE: After reading it through--even considering the quantity I received for my money--I think that the quality of the content more than made up for the fewer words on fewer pages. In fact, I enjoyed the larger type. And even though not all of the information was new to me, I was reminded of just how far we have fallen as a Christian nation with what was intended to be a republic--not a pure democracy. Now it's on to Mark Levine and his "Unfreedom of the Press", which has been sitting on my bookshelf for way too long.

OMG! What a marvelous account of our past, present and future political climate. There are Awesome references to all of the leftist strategies to grab power through the court system. I never understood the history of the women’s movement until reading this book. WHAT AN EYE OPENER!

Educational! Facts in historical detail to present day. Read half the book this morning. Inciteful and concise. I recommend this book. Inteligent, common sense explanations about divisive politics' from early origins. The content is timely. Glad I bought this book as it informs, in some interesting detail, and explains the chaos in Washington DC and certain states.

I never could get the book. In my library, it was showing 'read.' I had never read the book, and the only thing I could get was some page about a Simple Heart Test, which I could never get to delete. There was a continuing request for rating this book - which I had never read- and no matter what I tried, that silly page ( I am assuming it was an ad) for a heart test was the only thing I ever did get. Bad form. If I pay for a book to read, I don't want to see the ad.

Mr. Horowitz has done His Homework, and Exposed the "Communist Still in Our Midst"..."Trying to Usurp Our Democracy, and Gradually Introducing "Communism" to America?"

The book arrived speedily and in great condition. I've been reading up on the author's background and it is quite impressive. He is the perfect person to provide insight into the dark realities that have been building over time. He knows what he's talking about and we need to pay attention if we want to help guide our nation in a positive direction. If we value Judeo-Christian values and the noble principles upon which our nation was founded, especially if we want to make a positive impact in life, this is a must-read. Being a good leader not only involves solving problems but recognizing the players involved and how to best use resources. This book helps us do that. This is the kind of knowledge we need to protect from censorship and teach our children if we are to prevent our nation's demise.

It is a insightful book about what is happening today.

This book was hard for me to read. First, to be honest, I don’t like to read much about politics. The Wall Street Journal and PBS or BBC are usually enough. But secondly I really did not appreciate the author’s inflammatory use of adjectives. It all got ones blood pressure rising.

The author puts history scenarios i a !tightening shows clear a d factual evidence of his thesis. His ability to show and discern pivotal and telling mom's vs is c!ear!y influenced by his own living history. Well worth th read.

I finished reading this book on Memorial Day Monday May 25, 2020. Several hours earlier I had watched the annual television program honoring the many military service people and their families who gave their lives and limbs in defending our country and the freedoms given to us in the greatest document ever written, the Constitution of the United States. I had to ask myself how many of today's Democrats would have watched a program emphasizing patriotism and service to our country. I concluded that very few was the answer. This book details the sad history of the anti-religious Democratic Party whose standards reached the zenith in Barack Obama, the most anti-Christian anti-religious President in the history of our great nation. Unfortunately the Democratic Party of today cannot recognize or understand the true Americans who love America and the religious freedoms which caused the pilgrims to come here. Instead the Democratic Party which supported slavery and Jim Crowe oppression for years far into the 20th century has now become the party of hate, oppression, religious intolerance and suppressor of free speech and freedom today. It will be interesting to see if voters recognize these facts in the November election and elect another anti-religious un-American coward apologist Democrat to the White House.

Well written and argued but obviously part of the same polarization of American identity that it critiques. There is good insight here into the Marxist underpinnings of some modern "progressive" ideology, but Horowitz also over-simplifies the historical narrative: in essentially accusing Marxists of "starting it first," he ignores the reality that Marxism was itself a reaction to the economic, social, and (yes) religious excesses of the world in which it took root. In the end, a good book to read to better understand this culture war, but destined to never be definitive from any perspective other than its own.

It is just a rehashing of old news

I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know about how the left is attempting to fundamentally change America. But, it's nice to know that other people also recognize the obvious. I feel like I now live in pre-WWII Germany with censorship and the dangers of fascists running around with masks on beating on those that don't agree with them. No doubt this book will soon be put on the burn pile by them.

Once again Mr. Horowitz hits the nail on the head. Very precise, detailed examples of the left's agenda to tear down every conservative principle in this nation. It's a must read, to be armed when confronted by those who wish our country destroyed.

If, like me you came of age in the 60's , you've been busy getting and education, working and raising your family and stuff. You know that while you were so busy, things were changing in our country and you didn't like a lot of it but you kept going. So now you've got some time on your hands and you are looking around appalled at what is being tolerated by our society. You don't exactly know how we got here. You don't even know people like the ones running our country. Well, they've been busy too. I encourage you to read Dark Agenda by David Horowitz. He lays out a clear timeline of events that you will remember. He clarifies how these events worked together to create the divided society we woke up to this morning. He calls it the war on Christianity and that is what has been happening but it's much more than that. David Horowitz is not a Christian. He is an agnostic. However, he has a clear vision of "what happened?" and he lays it out for those of us stumbling around in the dark. You will remember the names and the events because they were headlines. Now you will know why they mattered.

Anyone who follows politics will not be surprised by this book. What I did find surprising was that the American left's war against Christianity, America, and the Constitution has been going on longer than I thought! Since the early 1960s, the left has been using the courts to dismantle religious freedom, specifically Christianity, and supplant it with the religion of the left, that is, global Communism. The author begins with a survey of the Christian idea that was the foundational principle of America: that under God, all men are created equal; therefore, it follows that under the law, all men are to be treated as equals. Horowitz then explains how the Founders recognized the dangers of a state religion or church, which is in fact an arm of the government, and instead steered the government toward a secular republic as they established the Federal Constitution. So, while the principle used to found the nation was overtly Christian, the Founders skillfully crafted a non-Christian (as opposed to un-Christian or anti-Christian, which are vastly different in meaning) system of government. The left of today would have us believe that the government is supposed to be an anti-Christian agency. Next, the author shows us the key moments of the left's anti-Christian war, dedicating each of several succeeding chapters to a specific court case. The left, having realized they could never convince enough people to pass their agenda through the legislative process, moved into the courts to force their way on the American people. Thus, in 1962, the left began their war. Bit by bit, we see how the left has used sympathetic courts to force their ideology on everyone. The author points out the left's hypocrisy by showing that many schools today are REQUIRED to teach units on Islam, while shutting out any mention of America's Christian origins. Make no mistake, this is government establishing a religion by favoring it, which is grossly un-Constitutional. We can see today the left's war brought out into the open for all to see. They no longer hide their agenda. Antifa, Black Lives Matter, etc. show us that the left's war is only heightening. This is not a new phenomenon. The left has been ramping up to this for 60 years.

I loved the quote from Alan Desrshowitz: "an open and respectful marketplace of ideas open to all." I keep up with news via sources like The Wall Street Journal but this book was an important addition to my "current events" curriculum. Thank you Mr. Horowitz!

This should be a must read for anyone who wants a roadmap of how the left has been trying to destroy America for at least a half a century. David Horowitz was, like Barack Hussein Obama raises by communist. But unlike Barack he broke with the communist sick agenda. He details how the left starter identity politics. How thousands of gay people died because of their greed. And quest for power. He examines all of the important horrible results that the left has subjected Americans to. The aids epidemic is only one issue. Please get this book and read it. Then give it to your children and have them read it. If you ever doubted how horrible the democrat party is, this book remove that doubt.

I don't agree with every single thing in the book, and with respect to the Supreme Court as a necessary institution to safeguard liberty, I felt the author ignored this point in his analysis of many of the truly bad decisions the court has made affecting religious liberty. But the book is a gem. There are almost no writers out there possessing the guts to tell the raw truth, combined with a hyper intellect ....as does David Horowitz. I thank him for his work. He is a warrior for good.

Horowitz does a masterful job of exposing the hypocrisy, hatefulness, deceit, and danger of the Left. He masterfully shows how the ultimate goal of the Left is the destruction of both Christianity and traditional America. I would advise any fair minded person to read it and then to ask themselves if the country that the Left is trying to create would be a good thing or not. Very good book!!!!!

As I said in my review of two other books by this author - I find him very credible, speaking for myself, because he has been on both sides of the political sides. He is a Jew while I am a Christian but we are both conservative. He has a very uncanny knowledge of what most Christians believe. And that is a plus when you are writing about it. He acknowledges that this country was founded on Christian principles. I believe that Christians are Jewish at heart for we, Christians, believe in the teachings of a "Great" Jew, Jesus Christ. This is a very good book that exposes this sinister plot that the radical left, mostly Marxist, to destroy our great Republic.

This book brings the Tribulation into focus. I didn’t think that it would happen in my lifetime but with everything that is happening in the USA, I believe it might. The way the snowflakes are drawn to communism which is the exact opposite of the type of government we have now. How did we get to this point? You can blame it on technology, lack of a real education, professors who have indoctrinated them from first grade, the complete rewrite of our true history into a history of calculating, viscous acts perpetrated as racist attacks on poor black slaves, and native Indians. Blame what you will. America may not survive intact. Prepare.

It has been my concern for quite awhile that Christianity has been in sharp decline. Protestantism has gone down 62.5% since 1980, for example. He quite clearly tied it to the progressive, communist left and their hatred of religion and our way of life, based as It is in our Judeo-Christian values. It is chillingly clear that we simply have to stand up not only for religion, but also for our American freedoms.

Most Christians know many of the points of this book either through experience or casual observation. This paradigm is predicted by Jesus Himself in Matthew 24 but does not mean Christians should ignore the seditious motives of politicians and media. The book presents a clear history of how the radical left has been successful in imposing it’s agenda on all Americans by use of the U. S. Supreme Court when the majority was composed of activist liberal justices finding constitutional rights which are not found in the Constitution. I have read the book completely, and will refer back to it time and time again. Much of the information regarding the factions and people that have enmity with God and His plan for America & mankind are laid out here with David Horowitz's unique background. He is able to write about some of the oppositional forces with simple clarity. His journey through life has taken many turns. People who claim to be Jews or Christians need to take a scrutinizing look at faith in the God of Israel. Then people who claim another faith also should consider the trajectory of the systems that are blatantly shuttering truth from the "public square."

It explains in clear and concise details why our Country fell in status & stature during the Obama Presidency .No more now that President Donald Trump stood up and said no more! Respect for God and Country that is what the author is conveying in his writing the left has other ideas it is all backed by irrefutable data as recorded from various news media. This is a must read for all Americans!

I am very concerned about the way this country is going. The Democrates seem to oppose everything the Rebublicans stand for. This book was mentioned on a Tv station so I said I give a look. I was young in the 1960s but remember my teachers were upset when we couldn't bow out heads and pray. Then we couldn't even do the Pledge of Allegience. Now that I*m older I still wonder why these rights under our Constitution are constantly being taken away. This book is very eye opening and at the same time scary. I love my country and am going to start really paying closer attention to politics.

What we referred to in the old days as the Communist Anti-American left first changed their name to liberal, then to progressive. Now they don't even hide it. They openly call the themselves socialist. For some reason they don't like the monicure Communist. However, they have always been godless and fought against religion because it stands for equality of rights and the idea that we are all children of God. Horowitz not only lays out the history but the godless agenda. He takes lays bare the truth that so many of us don't want to see. Reading this treatise is necessary to recognize the threat to our freedoms. Every patriot should read it and have been it in their library.

Excellent read on how we witnessed the most openly stolen Presidential election in the history of America! As a proud Patriot, Trump supporter twice, and a Christian since 1965, I have not forgotten the attack on Christians by the Obama era which will certainly ramp up again thanks to Kamala Harris! If you EVER want to understand why things are the way they are and where it is all going this is a great read. Very informative and revealing. David Horowitz as usual has done his research as well as lived both sides or opinions.. If you are a Christian, you definitely need to read it. Your head in the sand helps no one..

The author does an excellent job of citing examples of suppressing Christianity in the United States. However, he does not suggest how we can prevent or reduce further suppression, or even better, reverse the present downward trend.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand what has happened to our religious freedoms, and how it happened. The historical and factual path David Horowitz showed us is both enlightening and frightening. I was aware of the historical legal happenings, but did not realize the evil behind the push, nor was aware of the terrible cumulative i Impact it would have.

Great read! Horowitz shed light on so many things involving religion; particularly Christianity and so many, including our government and culture, attempting to destroy those that believe our country was founded on freedom of religion and in particular Christianity....adding many things Obama did to that end...shameful. Our founding fathers would be turning over in their graves. Certainly not a "fun" read but everyone should be required to read it!

Due to my age I now enjoy immersion reading. To watch and hear is good. Buying the written book for Kindle and adding the audio is expensive, especially for this particular title. Great, enjoyable information but the reader read at a snail’s pace and I abandoned watching and switched totally to audible. In doing so I was able to speed the reading to 1.5 times the normal speed, which was very good for I now had the reader speaking at a great reading speed. From now on I will try a sample before purchasing, which will be cheaper. The author’s description of the War on Christianity was spot on as I recall. Hope I didn’t sound as if I was ugly with my rating but I rate on how much I enjoyed the total book.

sadly an informative, well written, documents narrative of how the Atheist and the left are pushing their agenda with the purpose of doing away with Christian values. A Must Read if you care about the quality of life in America.

This book connects the dots on the liberal agenda. He reviews all of the standard topics, gay rights, abortion and others and how it connects to the church. You see that liberal hatred of the church under lays everything they do. They see the church as underpinning the conservative side of the issues they fight. After you read a couple of chapters you will fully agree with the author. That opens up the door to what the future has in store for us all. Those thoughts will scare everyone to death.

Finally an author who tells the truth about the political left and their hypocrisy against normative human behavior. When someone calls you a racist 9/10 times that person is the actual racist. I am sick and tired of people judging one another because of their skin color and sex. Grow up! Wake up!

Oh if only we could go back to the days when our country was founded and face today with a renewed outlook and support for the principles on which our country was originally built. We were created equal and our differences could be debated with an outcome acceptable to both sides without fear of repercussions. Ultimately what was the best for the whole not the few.

Being a former Democrat and liberal this book confirmed the uncomfortable feelings I was having with the party. Other liberals have made similar comments. I felt more oppressed and that more basic religious freedoms were being taken away. After the ACA was pushed through and the after effects of how bad it is for the middle class I began to become very angry with the party and decided it was no longer fighting for hard working middle class Americans. This book showed me it was much worse than I originally thought. Highly recommend it.

However, if you lack the courage of your convictions or are fearful that a mind like Horowitz might change yours, then eschew this insight for volume!

“Dark Agenda”, subtitled “The war to Destroy Christian America”, by David Horowitz (who happens to be Jewish) The book is a concise thesis on why the progressive movement, the left (indeed what the Democratic Party has become) has tried to marginalize, if not obliterate not only Christianity but any religion or religious belief that offers an option to the dictates of an intolerant, monolithic political movement. In that effort the left has attempted to re-write American history and thought, and tumble the pillars upon which America stands.

As a Christian it was interesting and disturbing to read about what's happening to my religious freedom in our country, which was founded on Christian doctrine.

Scary book. The things revealed in it are are needed to understand what is going on in world today. I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on spiritual things. Such as found in Ephesians chapter six. Starting with "We do not wrestle ."

I enjoyed David Horowitz’s writing style and the narrator of the book. Mr. Horowitz explained rather arcane subjects in such a way that the book is accessible to anyone. Bravo, Mr. Horowitz, for writing such an immensely enjoyable book that helps me understand why some people are so ‘hell-bent’ on being correct on a given topic. The book also illustrates how dangerous a political ideology can be, and how, like the great Pres. Regan warned, ‘We are but one generation from sacrificing the greatest social experiment ever known to man, our American democracy.’

It was a very interesting read and explained things that happened in my childhood and teen years that I didn't understand at the time. Recommend everyone read this to understand our world today!

The subject matter of this book is valuable and helps to understand why our country is where it is today. While informative it is easy to read even though the topic is difficult to cover. Horowitz logically puts together the information that allowed me, the reader, to understand today's America in a way that I didn't before. Very enjoyable reading in a positive and informative way. Kudo's to Mr. Horowitz for providing his insight on America today.

I normally keep 2 or 3 audio books on hand to listen to when traveling. Dark Agenda was one I had in the stack and had been there for about 2 months. However when I opened it and tried to play it on a trip, it would not play. No sound, nothing. So I do not know how to rate it as I was not able to hear it. My advice is on receipt, check it to make sure it is a good disc.

Excellent read! We know our culture is changing but we often don't know what events are affecting the change. The author shares the war on our nations values and freedom of religion. There are many in power who plan to take away these freedoms we've had for over two centuries. You don't always know their intentions by their rhetoric. He outlines what has transpired and is happening now with historical facts.

Every American, especially Christians should read this book. David Horowitz completely exposes the left's agenda to completely destroy and eradicate Christianity. Without knowledge, we will be overrun and have to go underground as many Christians in other countries are doing now. Fantastic book about how the Democrat party evolved into a socialist party. Starts with the sixties. David Horowitz describes each stage of the development accurately and with copious documentation. He himself started out as a Democratic socialist until they killed a friend of his who had also supported their cause. Their indoctrination of our youth to group think and identity politics has been alarming. Excellent book for discussion.

An excellent historic account of the Left`s 50 year assault on religious freedom up through Trump`s 4 years of protecting that same freedom. Christianity is currently the most persecuted faith in the world, and Christians in the United States see very dark clouds on our horizon. This book helped me understand how the Left thinks on the topic and strategies employed in the battle to Cancel Christianity.

The first couple of chapters were hard to get threw, but it got interesting in the 3rd chapter. I could not put it down. I normally read about 3 books at a time. A little of this and a little of that. But this one held my interest until the end.

I thought the rating I gave the book was fair. It did cover a good amount of material but it did not "grab" my attention but only did a "fair" job of keeping my interest enough to finish reading it.

This book is one of the saddest and most depressing I have read because it is so true. It is gut wrenching to realize the depths of hatred some people have for this beautiful land and the lengths they will go to to destroy it. The only chance we have is to fall on our knees as Christians repent of our sins and plead God restore us and rebuke Satan and his demons.

Horowitz, although not a Christian, clearly shows how Christianity IS under attack here in the US. Every Christian ought to read this book and get a better picture of what we are up against.

The author does an excellent job in articulating the lefts agenda from start to finish. I like the chronological nature in which he approaches the events, history, and the teachings. These words in the book are truly evident in today’s America.

Good read

Like the way the supreme court has been highlighted in making decisions that changed America with decisions that should never have been made by them.

This book explains the rifts in America and why the escalating hate of the Left causes evangelical Christians to back President Trump without mentioning him very much at all. It traces the hatred of American ideals as they were established and how they are being broken down by the Left.

I dare all Americans and Christian's who love our country to read this book prior to the election in 2020. It encompasses the activities of the left for the past 60 years to destroy our founding principles including the right to freely practice our religion.

This book will open they eyes to what is truly happening to our American Christian values, and how they are being methodically replaced by the agenda of the Left. Thank you to David Horowitz for helping to expose the truth!

This is an excellent book to understand the basic split in the USA that people been trying to understand since the election. Although today's media and the democrats just can't understand why Trump is popular the answer is plain. I recommend this to anyone really trying to understand why the USA is so divided.
