Charles Stanley's Handbook for Christian Living: Biblical Answers to Life's Tough Questions

I am a senior citizen. My Mother & I both agree that this is a very well laid out book with print that is easy to read. We like the paperback volume because it is light enough to hold comfortably. This book contains a variety of subjects & is easy enough for the everyday man to be able to read & comprehend.. While I like this book, nothing compares with the Life Principle Bible, NKJV which I sit & read for hours which contains many of these same subjects in more detail.. I love Dr.Stanley's teachings & In Touch Ministries. I have grown so much in my faith since obtaining this material. Either book that I have mentioned would make a great gift.

Dr. Stanley has long been one of the greatest Christian influences in my life. I have purchased 5 of these for family members. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Dr. Charles Stanley is a very God gifted writer and I have many of his books. A very good book for daily reading.

I am expressing surprise, not because I expected less of Charles Stanley, who is a great teacher, but because this book is an exhaustive reference work that will help those who serve in ministry. It must have taken a great deal of work on the part of the team at In Touch Ministries. This book is carefuly divided into sections that reach almost all areas of the Christian life, from salvation to tongues to the Lord's Supper. In each section, Stanley shows his extensive knowledge of Scripture and his ability to teach the Word in a simple manner. He also sprinkles in many quotes and Scripture references for additional study. I'm a writer and I often use this book just to look up quotes on a particular subject not often found in traditional quote books. If you're in ministry, this is a small, but worthy investment. Any passage you might have a question on will be answered in great detail. If you're a fundamentalist, you'll find it especially gratifying that Charles Stanley doesn't compromise on issues like speaking in tongues, the real meaning of repentance (one of the hi-lights of the book), and the security of our salvation. I highly recommend this book. It will really compliment your study library.

His teachings are always founded on sound scripture. Likewise, this book also provides scriptural answers to tough questions. The teaching is Biblically sound, which is most important, and the answers are not long (boring) treatises. Mr. Stanley writes in a concise manner and gets right to the heart of the manner. The book is divided into several sections, each dealing with a broad topic, such as Church Matters, Daily Living, Doctrine, End Times, Personal Growth, Relationships, Service and Outreach, and finally, Spiritual Disciplines. There are 86 individual topics in all. The book is over 500 pages. Mine was published in 1996. It has helped me sort out my thinking on many faith topics. I went to the counter to find out that there were no more and that it would have to be ordered. So I ordered it from Amazon and got a hard cover version. Mr. Stanley offers commentary, pracitcal examples and an in depth examination of each topic. By the end of it, you have gained a thorough understanding of the entire topic. The book's approach to explaining how a Christian can practice christianity everyday is disarming--nothingsuper spiritual. It does not make you feel like you need to be a super hero everyday in order to enrich your relationship with Christ and with yourself and others. I hightly recommend this book. Morover, Amazon delivered way in advance of the dated of the ex[ected delivery.

This is a book I would repurchase and give as gifts to family and friends. I love that each topic is broken down into scripture, commentary, a closer look, growth, application, and ideas/goals. Great study! Over 550 pages of great information. Love it!

Want to help someone learn how to "walk the Christian walk?" This book is what you are looking for. Simple to read. Straightforward to apply. And doctrinally sound.

I am enjoying this book and learning a lot. I like the way you can choose a subject and learn more. A great tool to a Bible study but also great on its own. All of Dr. Stanley's books are good and this one is especially helpful in your growth.

Im very happy with this book just as I am with all of Dr. Charles Stanley's books. I originally bought this book at a used bookstore for 10.00 in like new condition and found it very informative so I decided to buy my son the same book. I had paid 20.00 for the used book here which he hasn't received yet so I don't know the condition but I noticed the price on the back of the book is 20.00 for a new one and here a new one is going for 62.50. I feel like were being taken advantage of from the bookstore thats offering it at that price so I would't reccomend buying it for that price but to check your local used book store first. All I can say is that every Christian seasoned or new should purchase an have in their spiritual library. As always Stanley has spoken for GOD and he has shared spiritual nuggets that will change your life.

Anything written by Dr. Stanley is worthwhile reading unless you don't want to change what you are doing or if you don't want to be convicted. This Handbook points you to the scriptures and in today's world is a MUST for reading and guidance. If you are serious about finding out what God has to say to you through His Word, this one is for you.

It's not the best part, but i love the way this book was printed in cotton paper. Soft and pliable- you want to curl up with it. Here's the reason you should have this, though: It is full of the wisdom of an 80 year old man who has studied God over a 60 year period. Covering a variety of subjects, he is balanced, thorough enough to be valuable and something in your heart will tell you ...... he is right. It's your go-to reference book.

You can tell Dr. Stanley wrote this book because his writings mirror his sermons. He may sound redundant to some who don't know his style, but that's only to help us understand and remember better. We may hear something once and tend to forget, but if we hear a second and third time it tends to stick with us. He gives you an overwhelming spiritual understanding of God's word.

This is a HANDBOOK that should be in every home and READ. Dr. Stanley teaches biblical truth in an easy to understand method. Important book

First book of this type that I have found. Sort of like an encyclopedia of Bible topics except more readable. Includes most any topic with scriptural references.

I first heard the Gospel on T.V. from Dr. Stanley. I'm forever grateful! I got this book for the first time over 10 years ago and have since lent it to many of my new christian friends. It's pretty expansive. Covers lots of topics new Christians (and even seasoned saints) have questions about. I've turned to this for wisdom many times and have always been given a Biblical perspective. I highly recommend it!

This handbook for Christian living is indeed what the title states. The book goes over nearly every topic you could imagine. I felt that this adds to our families Bible studies and it gives clear, concise answers with scripture to back it up. I have not seen a better book out there. The best part is the writing is not dry, you can almost hear Mr Stanley's voice come alive through the text.

Organized topically, this book is useful for both new Christians and mature Christians. It doesn't take the place of your Bible, obviously, but can help to put some things you have trouble understanding into context in your own life. You'll gain insight into areas that perhaps you aren't even thinking about by reading through the topics. Great book and I highly recommend it.

Was searching for a book from, Charles Stanley, that would enrich me on my journey as a follower of Christ. This specific handbook is exceptional, to which one can relate and follow in christian faith. He allows you to see and understand through each individual chapter with clarity and truth. Which ever direction your taking, you get a better grasp on the fundamentals of your faith to propel you to spiritual progress. I myself am totally pleased with the insight this book has given me.

I have gone back to this book several times when seeking guidance on various situations. This is a book every Christian should read. It is a blessing to those who are working on their relationship with God. I have learned more from this book than I have in 20 years of listening to Sunday sermons. What I love about Dr. Stanley's teaching is that it is always scripturally-based. I've heard Dr. Stanley say many times that if he could not back up what he was saying with scripture, he wouldn't say it all. This book is written with the same kind of message.

Haven't used it a lot yet. Just got it but Charles Stanley's Bibles & Devotionals influence me to buy more of his works. He is one of the best Bible teachers in the world.

So much appreciate Dr. Stanley's concise and clear writings about so many important topics. The index is what makes this book extra helpful as the reader can go to the area of interest or concern and find it easily. We've recommended this to many folks now and they've found it as helpful as we have.

Fantastic book for any Christian! I have learned a lot about every facet of Christianity from this book. I usually don't buy any books other than Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum's books, the most brilliant Biblical scholar in the world, but this is a very good book to own.

All of Dr. Stanley's principles are bible based (as is all his writings). There may be some room for interpretation differences but well written and highly recommended

This is an Excellent Book however what I did not realize it was re-titled from a previous printing titled "The Glorious Journey" and I already had it so this book went in our church library.

Dr. Charles Stanley is one of the best Baptist preachers of the modern era. He is a great orator and writer. He is someone who focuses on common-sense solutions to the problems faced in everyday Christian life. His insights are always relevant and address challenges that people will surely face at one point or another. This particular book outlines Stanley's theological views on a host of topics. It is more of a doctrinal primer than most of his books. The resource also covers a lot of Bible teachings on a variety of topics, such as salvation, forgiveness, love, and holy living. Stanley writes from a dispensationalist Baptist perspective. Covenantal Reformed church members will disagree with some of his views. However, when it comes to the basics of how to live an everyday life that is pleasing to God, Stanley is second-to-none as a communicator. This resource is a valuable depository of information. Fans of Dr. Stanley will love the book. Stanley is always careful to back his assertions with numerous tie ins with Biblical passages. His moral teachings will never lead a Christian astray.

The table of contents quickly reveals that this is a thorough and concentrated resource for facing the challenging questions of contemporary christian life. The wealth of information is like an encyclopedia. It's my favorite reference for personal study as well as Bible study group discussions when we get caught on topics beyond our understanding. As a Christian counselor I know how tough topics are often avoided in our culture. Dr. Stanley tackles them with forthrightness and practicality. I especially appreciate how he treats the difficult topic of suicide, offering compassionate and clinically sound tips for those feeling so desperate and for those who love them. For those of us who appreciate Charles Stanley for his straight talk, Biblically sound, informative teachings with a conversational practicality, he does not disappoint. And yes, he keeps to his style of inviting us to grow. He shares personal anecdotes to enhance his commentary. I'm a lifelong Lutheran and I believe that this book has so much to offer that it transcends theological differences. On the practical side, I like that the scriptural reference is fully provided for each topic. As one with a penchant for note taking, the wide margins are generous. The paper has a strong feel and holds up to my heavier handwriting. The new graphics (compared to the HC 1995 version) offer a more eye friendly contemporary feel. There's a thorough index, thankfully with generous margins for personal additions. I can find something quick and not try the patience of the group members as I search for that perfect passage that "I know is in here somewhere." Considering the "weight" of the material presented I like that it's light enough to carry to Bible study. Your library won't be complete without this book.

This is a well-organized book that deals with many practical and doctrinal issues, as well as spiritual disciplines such as salvation, tongues, eschatology, prayer and many issues of spiritual growth. Along the sidebar it has many great quotes from Christians past and present. Recommended.

I have attended a few of Charles Stanley's program tapings in Atlanta, GA at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta. I have also enjoyed his programs on television as well as reading some of his books. If you are wanting a reading that will put things into plain english then this book is for you. Charles Stanley is an ordained Baptist Pastor yet he does not really preach to you. To me he is more of a teacher and put things into day to day english that even I can understand. He doesn't do the fire and brimstone preaching - He talks to you whether on tv or books as if he is talking in plain english just to you. He explains in details things you might not understand or just reiterates things you already know. So if you are ready to sit down and meditate on God's word then this is for you.

Charles Stanley is currently my favorite preacher. He teaches better about God and things about christianity more than any other preacher could. When I bought this book, I was so happy with it. I knew I was going to love it because I love all Charles' books, but this was 5 times as greater than I thought it would be! I recommend for all levels. It's great because each topic you want, you look it up and little verses about that topic will be in there. Great book for Charles lovers!

I brought this book over a year ago when I was going through some extremely tough times. I had just lost my job, had total left hip replacement surgery, and not quite settled into the house we were renting as a result of our own home forclosing. I was worn out physically and emotionally drained, and felt myself beginning to go numb. Dr. Stanley's advice and words of wisdom really helped to gain perspective on all these issues. Everytime I would read a chapter or passage, I felt a little less confused and angry, and it helped reinforce within me that whatever happened, God was and is still in control. I keep this book on my nightstand next to my Living Bible. When my adult children call to share concerns or worries, I immediately reference my Bible and my Handbook. This book is simplified, easy to read and even easier to understand. I'm sure all who buy, will enjoy.

I first want to say that I have read many Christian books and study the Bible frequently, and I am an ordained Baptist Deacon. This book has been so helpful to me when I have been feeling down or confused about the simplest topics. I recently had lots of doubts and fears over a new job that I had taken, which was causing me so much stress that I felt, I could barely deal with it. The stress was so great that it was interfering with my work, my time spent with family and with my time spent with God. When I read the section on stress it was like a battery recharge, it helped me to put my work stress in perspective and literally made me feel better immediately. Nothing here is new material for me, but it is presented in such a way that it will open your eyes and lift your spirits. We are all growing everyday and it is our choice how we grow depending on what we feed our minds. This book is a must have for every Christian family, and I highly recommend it.
