For both Ruth and Esther, God used stressful circumstances to bring about His eternal purposes. Ruth's committment to the God of Naomi affected every generation to come, as she became an ancestor of King David and more importantly, Jesus Christ. Esther's obedience led to the preservation of her people at a moment in history when all seemed lost.
The stories of Ruth and Esther will make you contemplate: Would I trust God enough to do what they did? Go chapter by chapter through the books of Ruth and Esther to see how the lives of these two remarkable women epitomize the type of faith that glorifies God.

Role models for us all
Ruth and Esther are the only books in the Bible named after women. Both were extraordinary people of great faith and courage – history makers, world changers, role models. Both began their stories as nobodies. Both were faithful and loyal. Both were divinely promoted. Throughout their stories, you can trace the hand of God as He works behind the scenes to accomplish His plan. Warren Wiersbe has the uncanny ability to put you smack dab in the middle of a Bible story as if you were one of the characters: you feel what they felt, understand their motives, and gain new insights for how to live your own life. Though I was very familiar with the stories of Ruth and Esther, I felt as if I were reading them for the very first time. I sympathized with their plights, captivated by their circumstances. It was like discovering a new world, as if I were putting on 3D glasses and experiencing an old, favorite movie for the first time again. This book and all of the books in the “Be” series work well for personal devotions or in a discussion group. There are several questions at the end of each chapter to get the conversation started.
I want to be as committed as Ruth and Esther
Ruth and Esther are two of my favorite books and characters in the Bible. I appreciated having the commentaries on both in the same book with one theme. Both women were totally committed to doing God's will, and both were important to the arrival of the Messiah. Ruth was an ancestor of Jesus, and Esther's actions to save the Jews meant God's people were still there for the Messiah to be born. Although I've done several Bible studies on Ruth and read both books many times, I learned some things from this commentary. However, in a few places I felt the author went off on a tangent--such as a lengthy discussion of the evils of drinking. I'm not convinced of every point the author made, but the book kept me completely engrossed and made me vow to be as committed to God as these two women of the Bible were.
Commit to Be Committed
Warren Wiersbe is one of my very favorite authors, Christian and otherwise. His studies always present a new perspective on a topic or a Scripture. Be Committed (Ruth and Esther), is no exception. Wiersbe opens up the text and shines a light not only the women Ruth and Esther, but also on the social morals of the times, including the place of women in Biblical culture. In Ruth, we see personal transformation. In Esther, it's social transformation. Because of Wiersbe, I've gained a new and expanded understanding of commitment and living a life of purpose. Be Committed earns 5 stars. Make sure to have a Bible handy as this is a study that references and explains Ruth and Esther.
Excellent women's group study text.
In looking for a Bible study text to offer this fall one of our ladies offered her suggestion of Be Committed by Warren Wiersbe. Before I could finish her copy, I ordered my own so I might make personal notes as I was reading. There is so much helpful information I wanted to come back to. This is an insightful, realistic look at faithfulness when life's circumstances are quite difficult. Both Ruth and Esther as women of their era stood firm in their faith in the face of an unknown future; Esther knowing full well her choice of action might mean her death (could we do the same today if needed?). I feel this study is applicable in the present situation we find the world in today. We are called to be faithful and this book is uplifting and encourages us to step out in boldness and put our trust in Christ, not humanity.
Great Supplement Material for a Bible Study
Great reference material from Warren's BE Series Commentary's. We are using it as a study & discussion guide in our weekly Bible Study on Ruth & Esther. Good insight and application of God's word for any Bible Study.
Deep insights
This book helps the reader to develop a deeper desire to serve God at any cost. Seeing how God used these two women encourages the reader to develop the relationship with God to a deeper level.
Excellent book!
Excellent book. This book was very helpful in preparing for study on Ruth. I've found each of Mr. Wiersbe's commentaries that I've purchased thus far, to offer great insight and add a lot to the studies I've led.
God knows your Name
This is an excellent Bible study for women. We were not always treated as equals. We often did not have the same rights as men. But God was able to use several women to show us that we too are valued by Him.

An inspiring read for 21st century women of God.
Warren Wiersbe writes in a common down to earth style that offers great explanation to the scriptures. This book featuring two Godly women rounds out their stories with details of the culture of the day. It is inspiring reading.

Prolific and Thought Provoking***
This powerful commentary is perfect for individual or group study. It is rich in historical background and the culture of the day. Reflective questions inspire practical application for implementation in your life today. the theme is commitment. He is profound author whose writing style is so clear, you can actully see yourself transported back during the day these ladies lived.
Not the best
Has some wonky theology that borders on prosperity gospel. Also, pretty elementary questions for study. Rather than introspective or thought provoking they're more "what did the book say about this topic?"
Study of Ruth and Esther
An excellent study of the Bible books of Ruth and Esther. Very applicable for this day in which we live. Much food for thought, and all truth as revealed by God's Word. Warren Wierrsbe is a gifted teacher. You'll not be disappointed from the first chapter to the last. Truly a call to a more committed Christian life.
Great study on some Women of the Bible
Really enjoyed reading on some women of the Bible in this study! There is great history in this study guide which will help the reader to understand the background really nicely as well. Could do this study in a group or alone and at your own pace. I often broke up the chapters of the book to fit my schedule.
I was personally disappointed in the pastors insight
I was personally disappointed in the pastors insight . In the first place there is no hint that Naomi had run from gods will. In those days a women was as a servant in many respects. The man was head of the house and responsible for his decisions . IF he had made the decision to leave Bethlehem .? What was his wife to do? Leave him? Have a fit ? Demand to go to fast food or else. Really? I think this book needs a spiritual insight as well as the reality of the times . Yes ,many lessons can be gleaned from Ruth . But I found most of the insight was about Naomi failure. (to measure up to today expectations) who took the family where? And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
Wonderful read! Amazing Women of the Bible to help strengthen your faith.
Love the detail and background information that goes into writing this series. I have gained such a greater perspective of these two books in the Bible. Any woman or man can benefit from reading Be Committed!
Delightful
One of the best books I've ever read. Each chapter is a delicious journey through Ruth and Esther; a deep insight in every one of the. Questions after every chapter are very helpful to reinforce the study of the book.

Wise Esther
this story is about a woman in power who was carefully proceeding in sparing the Jews decimation. By waiting and not rushing to achieve her goal she was able to get the outcome she wanted.Patience was the key to what she achieved.

Easy To Read Bible Study
This is the second book in the "Be" series that I've read and once again I've found it very helpful in understanding these books of the Bible. I've read Ruth numerous times and once as part of a Bible study group, this just added to my understanding of Ruth. I have read Esther at least once, but probably just took the narrative at its face value. This just helped me to understand more in depth the circumstances surrounding the things described in the Book of Esther. I recommend these books to anyone who wants to better understand what they are reading in the Bible.
Life of Ruth & Esther
As usual, this commentary provides insight to understanding the books of the Old Testament. Wiersbe provides cross-references between various books in the Old & New Testament and provides unbiased views. If your looking to better understand the lives of Ruth & Esther and their Godly walk, read this book as part of your study.

Warren Wiersbe is a master at this. He has insights and thoughts that inspire you to dig deeper. Worth the money.
It's simple and yet so intriguing
Awesome commentary by Wiersbe, He gets the reader glued to the pages for hours. Very intricately woven with the New testament.
Be Committed
It was exactly as described. I received exactly what I expected and hoped. I am pleased and would not hesitate ordering again. Thank you.
Wow
Not what I would expect from Wiersbe. Full of personal opinions and totally off the wall remarks. As an example (in Esther) he goes off on a discussion about the evils of drinking. Then he determines what he thinks to be the Lord's teaching about drinking. In Ruth he makes determinations that in my opinion needed more thought and cultural research.
Disappointed
Enjoyed Wiersbe's commentary, but was disappointed he used NIV and KJV. Also, the Pastor who did the introduction was also disappointing, as used other versions that are so watered down you wouldn't even know it was the word of God. The questions were for the weak minded.
Doing God's Will
"Doing God's Will Whatever the Cost" is the subtitle for the book as well as the theme. Both Ruth and Ester set the standard for service. Encouraging one another in faithful service is what Ruth and Esther were all about. Warren W. Wiersbe writes in a very understandable and fascinating way. He manages to make the Bible riveting and applicable as today's Christians work to impact the cultural decline we live in. A great Old Testament study.
Helpful in Bible Study
A well written book that is useful in Sunday School, Bible Studies and use at home for studying these books of the Bible. I find most of Warren wiersbe's commentaries easy to use for a non-professional Bible student.
