*A brand new collection of short stories from the incredible Sir Terry Pratchett!*

Imagination is an amazing thing.

It can take you to the top of the highest mountain, or down to the bottom of the deepest depths of the sea.

This is where it took Doggins on his Awfully Big Adventure: a quest full of magic and flying machines. (And the world's best joke - trust me, it's hilarious.)

It took three young inventors to the moon (where they may or may not have left a bottle of lemonade) and a caveman on a trip to the dentist.

You can join them on these adventures, and many more, in this incredible collection of stories . . .

From the greatest imagination there ever was.

Written for local newspapers when Terry Pratchett was a young lad, these never previously published stories are packed full of anarchic humour and wonderful wit.

A must-have for Terry fans . . . and young readers looking for a fix of magic.

Shows how his talent and craft evolved in the masterpieces we all grew to love.

Not Sir Terry Pratchett's best work, BUT it shows how his talent and craft evolved into the masterpieces we all grew to love. The individual stories can be read when you need a Terry Pratchett fix or binged in a single setting on a Sunday afternoon. I for one am glad that this collection was made available for me to read!

Terry Pratchett's beginning

Very enjoyable full of Pratchett's humor and unpredictable stories great read

Fun stories and early work of the author

The Time-travelling Caveman (Hardcover) Author: Terry Pratchett Publisher: Doubleday - Penguin Year: 2020 These stories are the early works of Terry Pratchett and dedicated to Terry aged seventeen. This is a beautifully produced book with a vibrant and well-designed dust jacket and cover with no expense spared. The illustrations are fabulous and are throughout the book in black and white. Of course, I am an adult reading a book which is probably more suited to children who will find the stories funny, probably more a boys market but of course I could be completely wrong. I did enjoy the stories, and I do think it would be a super Christmas gift for any child or child at heart. It is a bit pricy but in saying that, it's a beautiful copy of Terry Pratchett's early work.

Just perfect

Despite being what they call "old" we love to read the stories Terry wrote when he was a young reporter. They are all "one mad idea" stories with no follow on but perfect as they are.

Pratchett is always funny

This is a very interesting book of his very early work. While there are no Discworld stories the notes after each story show the later connections with these stories

Superb

Another brilliant story from the magic man himself. The best fiction writer of all time. Whether you like are into diskworld or his other stories, he never fails to make you laugh.

Thumbs up from 10 year old son

He whizzed through it and then asked to read another by the same author, so a hit for sure! He is a fan of Walliams, Dahl, the Treehouse books, Tom Fletcher, David Baddiel etc. and this was his first foray into Pratchett. Would recommend for kids with similar tastes in books.

Intended for children: likeable by everybody

These stories were written when Pratchett was fairly young but the ideas are just as good as when he was older.

Terry Pratchett

A very young Terry Pratchett - only one small story ref, the caveman rest a mix. Still Terry but not the polished character from the future

definitely a childrens book

They need to be in the 7 to 10 year old age group I would suggest. Typical Pratchett cynical philosophy, but in simplistic terms and senaros that would amuse and inform a childs developing view of the world. As with all things children are exposed to in their formative years, parental supervision is essential.

Amusing stories

Sir Terry was a master story teller and this early work is funny. For younger readers a great collection of stories and for older readers a chance to enjoy a talent again that was taken way too soon.

perfect

my first xmas gift and i love it

What is there not to like

I have nearly all of Terry Pratchett’s books and this one was a really welcome addition to my library.

Very good

The only book I've read by terry and I'd rate it 98/100 to be exact since I didn't understand some parts

Reading fan

Really enjoyed the book my grandson

One of our last opportunities to discover texts from STP

Thank you for your art, Sir. We miss you. Of course, nothing to do with Discworld or stand alone novels like Strata, or Good Omens, or Nation. But those short stories are fun and are a good introduction to Sir Terry's works, especially for young readers.

A fun read

It is fun and well worth reading but not his very best work.

Unbedingt empfehlenswert!

Sehr schöne, kurzweilige Lektüre. Und nicht nur für das englischbegeisterte 12-jährige Kind, sondern auch für die Eltern. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Joyous..

Note: this is a CHILDREN'S book but the sort of children's book that makes you wish you were a child again.. This is not like The Carpet People or the Bromeliad Trilogy, which in effect were 'Pratchett lite', these short stories were written when Terry was himself a young man working for the Bucks Free Press and some of them are very short indeed and end abruptly with no plot development or even a commonly-accepted form of narrative, but I remember well what I loved as a small child, and this pushes all those buttons. The format, with all the onomatopoeic words being presented in large, wobbly fonts, coupled with the plentiful illustrations by Mark Beech (often sprawling across two pages) put one in mind of Dahl or Sendak, and the tales themselves are silly in the best possible way. I'm a huge Pratchett fan (see left middle of attached image) and I mourned his passing like family, and although this is far removed from his most famous works, it conjures a sense of innocence and simple joy that for me have been long buried beneath walls of cynicism. A wonderful work you'll want to read to your kids..

Great selection of short stories from Terry Pratchett

This is the last collection of short stories to be published by the late Terry Pratchett. This is a great way to introduce children to the world of Pratchett before the they discover the Dicsworld series. This collection of books are some of Pratchett earliest works (they were written when he was 17). The book contains 17 short stories, To give you a taste on some if the stories without giving to much away (as it best to discover these stories for yourself) they include a tale of three inventors who take a trip to the moon (which involves a bottle of lemonade), to a story of a professor who creates a steam-powered rocket to fly to Mars, to a silly time travel tale which involves a trip to the dentist for a caveman. All are stories are charming and fun which children (and adults) will enjoy. The book includes fun illustrations by Mark Beech which adds to the charm of the book. This is a great collection of stories by the master of literature which fans of Pratchett or those who are discovering him for the first time will enjoy. Will recommend.
