Delve into the details of all things Shadowhunter with this illustrated guide to the knowledge and lore of the Shadowhunter world.

Since the thirteenth century, the Shadowhunter’s Codex has been the one and only manual for Shadowhunters looking to brush up on their demon languages, learn proper stele use, and discover just what exactly a pyxis is. Featured in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this guide is a necessity for any young Nephilim on their journey to becoming a Shadowhunter. Beautifully illustrated, the Codex contains images of the famous Shadowhunter homeland of Idris, as well as depictions of demons and other Downworlders.

But this isn’t just any copy of The Shadowhunter’s Codex. It’s Clary’s copy, and as an artist herself, she’s sketched pictures of her friends and family in the book, and scrawled helpful advice in the margins. Of course, she couldn’t exactly stop Jace or Simon from adding their thoughts either. Part encyclopedia, part history, part training manual—complete with commentary from Shadowhunters who have seen it all—this beautiful guide is a perfect supplement to the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Get a Hardcopy, Not a book for Kindle Edition!

First, I want to start out with saying if you don't get a hardcopy of the book and get the Kindle edition you're going to be disappointed. Much of why we love the Shadowhunter's world and Cassandra's writing is because of the small details and touches that she puts into her work. I had read the series when it first came out between my middle school and high school years and, to be in college now it was great to see the TV series on Freeform. Though I had a bit of early confusion, as I remembered the characters and storyline but the details of her mythological world had been faded to me. The codex serves as a great reference and collectable to those who adore the series and the hardcopy is beautifully crafted. The hardcover copy has an embellished cover that has 3D detailing and a very unique look to it. The inside is neatly broken down and holds the same terminology and even images for some of the content to really showcase the fantasy world even more. There are some little 'notes' that look handwritten as if done by Jace and Clary and are a great touch to the overall book. If you get a Kindle edition instead of a hardcopy, you miss out on the effects of the notes and the overall craftsmanship that makes it such a neat book as it all becomes the same format text and lacks in many of the details.

Dry, dusty. Not worth the purchase price.

What a waste of $24.99 + tax! I should’ve gone with my first instinct, and borrowed it from the Public Library instead of spending money on it. Don’t waste your money! The book is divided into sections (complete with illustrations) to teach new Shadowhunters information about demons, the Law, how Shadowhunters were created, weapons, Marks, etc. Scattered in the margins of these various sections of information are comments by Clary, Jace and Simon that are supposed to be pithy or humorous but are just thrown in to awaken the reader who has just nodded off from all the boring “information.” It took all my willpower to finish the book. It was as dry and dusty as reading a Dictionary from A to Z. Don’t waste money, or your time. If you are a big Shadowhunter fan, as I am, then borrow it from the library and make sure to have a big – no make that GIANT – cup of coffee by your side. You’re going to need it to stay awake. Though I didn’t like it, I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you want to read it or not.

Great for fans of the series.

I received this for my 18th birthday from my mother (this is her account). As a fan of The Mortal Instruments series, I LOVE this book. It puts you in the world of the characters (much like the 'Tales of Beedle the Bard' or 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is for Harry Potter fans) The little commentary written by the characters in the books is hilarious. I share a love of this series with my Parabatai and I'm considering getting her this for her birthday. I highly recommend for fans of the series. However, don't read if you haven't finished the series yet, because there are minor spoilers.

Nice Addition to My Shadowhunter Collection

This is a fun addition to my collection of Shadowhunter books. There are a lot of interesting details within this little book. Most of the information is at least touched on during Clare's two series, but I think it is really interesting to have an entire book dedicated to the world she created. It doesn't hurt the book fits in with my other book. There are little hints and nods to The Infernal Devices while Clary , Jace and Simon, from the Mortal Instruments, "comment" in the margins. There is a lot of information packed into this little books. There are sections that are boring, but not every section on a textbook/handbook can be interesting! It raises the believability just a bit. I think the little book gives a nice glimpse into the Shadowhunter world and the Clave mentality that we don't always see from the characters within the series. The "comments" from our favorite characters contrast to the message from the Clave as well. Overall it is just a lot of fun that doesn't take itself too seriously.

If you aren't a fan of the series, this isn't for you - but if you are, get it!

If you aren't a fan of this series, this isn't for you. It was interesting but at times I had to force myself to keep reading. Maybe it's because I'm in school and felt like I was reading a textbook at times. I LOVED the commentary between Clary, Simon, and Jace, it made the entire book. I wish there was more of it! I don't think if read this all the way through again, but I could see myself referencing it as I read/reread the series.

Addictive reading

I hadn’t intended to read this right now; I have so many other books I need to read. However, it was one of those times where you think you’ll just leaf through a page or two and the next thing you know, it’s three hours later and you’re half way through the book. Cassandra Clare’s world is totally captivating and I REALLY want to just sit and marathon my way through the rest of the Mortal Instruments series (I’ve only read the first book, City of Bones) but I have other books I must read and review first. The Shadowhunter’s Codex provides background information to the two series. I have seen some very minor spoilers in there – for example, I didn’t know about Simon’s status – but nothing that would spoil the series. Although I am an advocate of ebooks, this is one book I would strongly recommend buying in hardback format. Part of the fun of the book are Clary’s and Simon’s in-world notes in the margin of this Shadowhunter’s training manual. In the hardback format, this is represented by what look like handwritten scribbles. This has had to be translated into different fonts in the ebook and the formatting is often not quite accurate, leading to some confusion.

GREAT

I love the Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments. This book provided me with a lot of insight into the Shadowhunter world. It set up just like it should be for the real characters. It has beautiful illustrations and I really enjoyed reading the notes written by "Simon", "Clary", and "Jace". I also enjoyed the parts at the end of the chapters where you could write your own answers. My favorite parts in the book were when they had a list of names that you could combine to create your own Shadowhunter last name and the rune section where they drew them all out. I also like the weapons *evil grin*. If you like Cassandra Clare and her books, this is the thing for you. It is also good to have read this before you start her new series (Last Hours).

great fun for a true fan but just borrow from the library if possible. Tends to recover old info.

only buy if you're a shadowhunter fan who really wants to know every piece of cannon. It reads like what its a manual and goes over things most readers already know. the origins stories are great are the illustrations and the notes scribbled on the margins, by Clary, Jace, and Simon, I think the reader is meant to believe the codex is passed around and used and reused.

Review of The Shadowhunter's Codex

This book was great. It's similar to one of the Harry Potter textbooks where in this case Jace, Simon, and Clary right in it but it's based on each person lending it out to a different person. So, I think Jace had it, then lent it to Clary, then Simon had it so each person responds to each person's comments about different sections of the book. The book is very informative but I thought the comments were amusing the most. There is a special edition in hardcover of this book, but it costs more. I believe in the special edition the angel on the front is all gold as well as the cup.

Great Condition, Nice Book

The book is beautiful, and perfect for any shadowhunter fan. The only problem I had with it was the condition. It was in a pretty great condition. No use wear, no minor scratches, no paper bends. The spine was a bit loose. Like it wasn't really that noticeable, but since I'm really picky with books, I do not like that. But the biggest problem I had is the mark on the book. On the top, there is a remainder mark in red. I'm really not happy about it. But it's not like it did much damage to the book. Just wished it didn't have the mark, and had a sturdy spine. Then I'd be fine. But overall, great condition. Inside there were lots of interesting things to read. Lots of beautiful pictures. I haven't read it yet because I have some others book to read.

Awesome book

I just finished the mortal instruments and the infernal devices and I wanted so badly to learn more about the shadowhunter world. This is a great book because the content is interesting as well as the comments and pictures by the characters. It was funny and sarcastic and very interesting if there is anything you don't understand about the shadow world. (Although I sort of wish for one annotated by Tessa, Will, and Jem) I would recommend this to any mortal instruments fan, it's a great book for a great price, well worth it. By the way you should definitely read all of the mortal instruments books before reading the codex

Great book for shadowhunter fan

Gift for my daughter who has read the Shadowhunter books and she LOOOVES it. She read for almost 2 hours last night and has almost finished it. She says it is great for additional info about the characters and even cross references with other series by the author. Good purchase for any shadow hunter fan.

Fun read

The Codes is a great way to have a foundation in how Shadowhunters work with fun asides from Clary, Jace and Simon

Very happy with this book!

Recently I've seen lots of people who don't get the Shadowhunter government, this is the perfect book for you. Here you can learn about the laws, the consul's purpose and the inquisitor duty. All you need to know to get some basic knowledge about the Shadowhunter world. Besides is a fun read with Clary's and Simon's comments along the way. Would recommend 100%

A great book!

I read this in ebook form but I love the paperback more! I always thought the commentary from jace, clary and Simon was funny.

Terrible formatting for the Kindle version!

I have all of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books on Kindle without any issues so I didn't really think to check the reviews (which I normally do for everything else) before buying this book, but BOY do I now wish I had! As others have mentioned before me - do NOT get the digital version of this book. The formatting is terrible! It doesn't distinguish the book's text from the extra handwritten notes added in and it completely makes it difficult to read. Do yourself a favor and get the hardcover instead!

Really nailed it with this addition to the M.I. series

I bought this as a gift for one of my kids that found themselves seriously hooked on this series of books. When she unboxed this you'd think the house was going to shake to the ground due to her excitement. She goes on and on about the details revealed, the character commentary added throughout the book and has claimed this as one of the cherished additions to the series she's grown so fond of. If you have a child that's mentioned their enjoyment of either the book series or even the movie released in 2013, this is a great gift idea.

Great teen age addition to Mortal Instruments series

The book is better than I expected it to be. It has so much information in it that is fun and goes right along with description. It's a little bit on the teenage side for my liking, but that's the age group for which the books were written. This book is more so than the actual series I think. It's well done and has helped explained a lot of my questions from the series that I had. It helps the reader get another more personal look at each character- we get to know them a bit more personally through their own remarks on the margins of the pages.

The seller is very good too: )

I really greatfull, for this book . Every inch is a master work! I hope to one day every shadowhunter's fan have one copy from this book. The seller is very good too :) . <3

Pretty Good for colection

This book is actually better than I expected. Of course, I recomend the purchase only if you're a true fan of The Shadowhunters Chronicles, which I am, and if you are too, I one hundred per cent recomend this book. It has funny side-notes, beautiful ilustrations and has overall very interesting information on the world-building of the book series. Worth the trouble. Really liked it

A nice holdover until the last TMI book comes out

This was a fun read. I didn't have huge expectations. I equate it to the text books in the Harry Potter series. Nice extras to immerse you further into the story's fantasy world, but not a show shopper story on its own. The comments from Jace, Simon and Clary are entertaining, and so is the historical information about the Shadowhunters. If you love Cassandra Clare's books, then you will enjoy this book. Consider it an appetizer before the main course, otherwise known as City of Heavenly Fire.

awesome!! loved it!

i loved reading this!! very detailed, very precise a lot of information and background into the shadowhunter universe clare has created great for anyone who's read the book spoiler alert, it doesn't reach the ending of the books so in the comments the characters write in the sidelines the story isn't extended to the sixth book of the series, but like the 4th i think

Ok

Hard to read. Love her books. But this was a hard read for me

Should I demand a refund?

I declare on my dying breath that I shan't. The Codex is informative and descriptive. The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices have always given me glimpses of the Shadow World, but the Codex is a hand that's lifting the curtain. I particularly enjoyed the sections on demons and Shadowhunter tools. But it's not just its content that makes it so enjoyable. Clary, Jace and Simon's scribbles are highly entertaining. I loved their sarcasm and insider commentary, and Clary's drawings were useful for me to piece together character descriptions that I wasn't quite clear on. My most enjoyable section was the Discussion Questions at the end of the chapter on Downworlders. The hilarity of it makes me laugh over and over again. Cassandra Clare, this is why I love the Shadowhunter Chronicles so much. And you just brought the Shadow World as a whole to life!

Great book

My niece loves these books and it’s a hard cover copy

Love it.

The first book in the Shadowhunters history. Very detailed.

Shadowhunter fans will definitely want to add this book to their collection

Shadowhunter fans will definitely want to add this book to their collection. With it's rich history on the Shadowhunter world, fans will enjoy learning even more about the world we've all come to love. Fans will also enjoy the illustrations that are found through out the entire book. My favorite part of this book are the comments written in the margins by some of our favorite characters like Jace, Clary, Simon, Magnus and others.

Fun Companion, but Not Altogether Necessary

"Welcome and Congratulations. You have been chosen to become one of the Nephilim." The Shadowhunter's Codex is a manual for new Shadowhunters. It is meant to guide them into their new, dangerous, usually short life. The life of a Shadowhunter is violent and often brief, but their role in containing rogue Downworlders and preventing harm upon mundanes by demons and the like is an important one. While most Shadowhunters are born into the life, some mundanes can ascend to become Raziel's soldiers. For those who have not been raised as a Shadowhunter, there is a lot to learn. The Codex is meant to guide those young, new Shadowhunters to prevent their even more untimely deaths. This is a brief little book that is mostly unnecessary if you have followed along with the series up to its most recent book. It details everything from the Mortal Instruments to a Shadowhunter's weapons to the different kinds of Downworlders. While I didn't mind all this information, and enjoyed this little manual, it is pretty repetitive and would make only the most die-hard fans happy. The most important information you get is the history in the last part of the book. The history of the Shadowhunters has been touched on in bits and pieces throughout the series, but it was good to have it all together in one place. The most entertaining part of this book wasn't the actual book itself, but the "notations" made by Clary, Jace, and Simon. They were funny little quips, especially about the parts where the Codex is lacking due to plot events from previous books. If I hadn't read the series, though, these little smart-guy comments wouldn't make much sense. I would use this book for a student who is going through the series but reads slow and might lose track of different names that are complex and unfamiliar. Using this as a dictionary/reference of sorts for those oddball items and names would help them keep up with the series at their own pace. It was a cute companion to the story, but if you read pretty steadily with the series, it isn't entirely necessary for your Mortal Instruments enjoyment!

A nice companion book to the mortal instrument series

It's a companion book so it reads like a text book, but i still found it very intresting

She was happy with her gifts

I bought for my granddaughter and gave it to her, along with the Bluetooth rechargeable mini speaker. She was happy with her gifts.

Beautiful Book

This book is stunning! The naked cover is marbled blue and the art inside is amazing.

Pulling the puzzle pieces together

This helped a lot being able to see all the notes and read details about the Shadowhunter's thoughts. I think it is an important buy for someone who is into The Mortal Instruments.

New Journey for Our Favorite Daylighter

Short stories and fast reads. Wondering what happened after the events in Heavenly Fire to our favorite group of Shadowhunters? Well this book gives you little glimpses and ties in wonderfully with her other series. You see familiar faces and meets some new ones as well.

Loved It!!!!!!!!

I am an obsessive fan of the Mortal Instruments and the infernal Devices and this was really a treat for me. I wasn't sure about it at first..Wasn't sure that it would be that great..But once I recieved the book I was amazed at all of the Sketches and fun facts..things that I had either forgotten or couldn't remember and I've read the Series Twice!

Good plot

Good plot

Perfect shape

Good book that goes with mortal instruments series

Five Stars

So happy I got this! It’s an insiders view on everything shadow hunter.

Loved it!

I absolutely loved reading this book! I felt like I was becoming a Shadowhunter myself! I loved the side notes by my favorite Mortal Instruments characters! It just made me want to read more! I can't wait to read another Shadowhunter book!

Lovely!

I found this work so lovely. It's a good way to know the ways of Shadowhunters, like a manual. The illustrations are beautiful and meaningful and the whole idea of Clary, Jace and Simon writing through it and putting their own thoughts and feelings into it it's a very touching and moving thing. I enjoyed it so much!

Excellent!

Excellent! Very good addition to the whole series.

Very informational of the Shadow World

I thought it was very fun to learn about the different things Shadowhunters have to learn about and, in some instances, memorize. I definitely recommend this to any fan of TMI or TID (or any other companion series or books) as it gives you more insight into the Shadow World, and gives you more information on Jace, Clary and Simon's personalities.

Cool companion to the series, but...

Well, as a companion to the Shadowhunter Chronicles the Codex is a great addition. It feels good to have it and read the Shadowhunter "Bible", however, it is more shallow than I thought it would be. In the books, the Codex is described as the source of all wisdom and all techniques and laws of the SH, however it barely gives a description of the majority of things, some that are obvious even for a dumb SH. The comments by Clary, Jace and Simon are great. I'd venture to say the comments are the best part of the book, specially Simon's, he has a great sense of humor. So the comments are what you actually buy. There's no need to say, the comments are full of spoilers so if you haven't finished all the published books, its better to avoid the codex. Now, the things I didn't like or plainly hated about the codex. ***BIG SPOILERS AHEAD, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK*** 1. The Harry Potter references are totally unnecesary. "to remember to the shadowhunters that light can be found in the darkest of shadows"... that was disrespectful. Not to mention others. 2. The Codex is somehow incoherent with the rest of the books. To mention just something, How come you can "choose" your own last name???? The last names of shadowhunters come from families that are hundred of years old, think Fairchild (present even in the 1800) or Herondale. The Ascension is a process you undergo when you are marrying a shadowhunter (then adopting that family's name) or something like that, not just YEIIIII IM BECOMING A SH, HOW COOL! MY LAST NAME SHOULD BE RED ROSE!!! 3. By the time this specific Codex was revised (2002), there is a very important fact about the descendance of SH and demons. (Tessa Gray, anyone???) So how come this is not mentioned in the Codex??? I found the book has some funny parts, some very real facts, some stupid additions, and some incoherences. I wont say the Codex is a bad book. And if you are a fan of the series, then you by all means should have it as part of your collection. Even if its just because its beautiful, what with the velvety cover and all.

First time ever...

I don't think I liked this book at all. It was a great thing for information if you ever need to know what is going on with a weapon or what an demon is. I didn't like it at all I wish I didn't waste my money on this book because there was no way I could even read every word for word with this book it was sad!

Nostalgic

The only thing I was disappointed by was the fact that the interior cover didn't have the same art as the hardcover.

Context

Love it

Five Stars

My daughter was so happy to have this. She loves it

Can't wait to read it

On time and she's happy

Great collector's item to accompany the Mortal Instruments

How fantastic, perfect for the Mortal Instruments lover! There's some great info and pictures, fun scribbles by Clary, sarcastic remarks by Simon, and much eye-rolling by Jace. I enjoyed just flipping through it and reading the passages that interested me most. The only thing better would be a special edition leatherbound book for the avid collector!

One of the best series of books next to the Potter series... a must have for any reading list!

Nice

Nice

shadowhunters equal love

the side notes are funny. the rest is just basic history for the shadowhunters. a lot of people have told me not to bother with it and just read the side notes but I think its a great book for the history of the shadowhunters.

Beautiful book!

The book came in a day before it was expected. When I ordered it, I didn't expect so much detail on the cover. And if you take the cover off the book itself is really soft. Overall, it's a wonderful book and it's definitely worth the money.

I thought this was pretty funny and entertaining

I thought this was pretty funny and entertaining. Great info too. However, I did get a little confused sometimes on what time it was done within the series.

Great way to fully understand the little details of the ...

Great way to fully understand the little details of the Showhunters, Downworlders, Demons, and everything in between! Make sure to purchase the physical copy, however, because the kindle version doesn't accurately display Clary, Simon and Jace's notes.

LOVE IT!

OMG I totally LOVE the codex, I've been waiting for it since Cassie said she was working on it, and the wait was totally worth it...The only missing things is a smile note from Clary on the runes pages with the draw of the Fearkess rune, I love that rune, I have it tattoed in my wrist!

Wonderful book!

I've learned a lot about the Shadowhunter world with the Codex, there were many interesting things that one doesn't know by merely reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. Also, it was nice to see Clary, Jace and Simom being goofy and having fun, it was like a much needed break for them. I loved the drawings and the sidenotes, it felt like reading their minds, so to say. The Codex is wonderful not only for those who entered the Shadowworld by reading Clare's novels and are looking to know more about it, but also for those that are new to it ans want to have a headstart before reading the novels.

What a nice surprise!

I was surprised by how much I loved this book. I have enjoyed each of Cassandra Clare's books, but had put off reading this one as it seemed more like a manual, and of course is. However, the great surprise was the edits to the book in each of the 3 main characters' "handwriting." What fun! Loved it!

Looks great, reads even better

I bought this book for my grandchild on the recommendation of another grandchild. Now his parent's want one for themselves. The actual physical quality of the book makes it a keepsake. I haven't read it but I am assured by my other grandchildren that it is very good.

Good book for the pictures

I liked the book because of the pictures. Most of the book is already described to you in the Mortal Instruments series. The comments by Clary and her friends are... annoying? They don't really add anything to the book.

Great book

Great book

A great Companion

An interesting look into the world that Clare has created, along with excellent, fleshed out sections on the shadow world and the Downworlders who inhabit it. A great companion.

A fan must have

The book is great and has a lot of information on the creatures of the movies/books.

Love it

Love

whole series

I love the whole series

you'll enjoy this 'manual' complete with commentary from the book characters

If you're a serious reader for the City of Bones / Mortal Instruments series, you'll enjoy this 'manual' complete with commentary from the book characters. Interesting to see how it aligns with the movie, Mortal Instruments (it does). More of a reference than a story line from start to finish.

Great books

My son has become a huge fan of the Author.

Love this book

the best book of all, it is all way surprising of how complex it is, the design of the outside it's just beautiful. The only problem I had was with the conditions with the book when I received it, the paper that covers it was damaged. But besides that, it's a great book and it arrived on time.

The Thing For Training Shadowhunters

Just like the synopsis says this is for the large part a manual. So obviously there are lots of chunks of information and while this was interesting, you pick up a lot of the facts when you actually read the series so I think it may have been better as a sort of reference guide for newbies to the Shadowhunter world. That’s why it was quite a slow read compared to Cassandra's other books but if you're a fan of the series you'll love it. The commentary on the sides from Jace, Clary and Simon was by far my favorite part because I love their characters to bits and their personalities shone through even when all they wrote was three words! Oh here I go again; I’m starting to sound like I believe they’re real (sorry for popping anyone’s bubble there). The beautiful art and annotations definitely made it worth the read and I even found myself laughing on occasion; not just because of the annotations/corrections but the actual codex had a sort of irony to the writing which I loved.

Just in time for Christmas!

I bought this for my sister. She is obsessed with the series ALMOST as much as I am of Harry Potter. Anyways, it came in great condition and there is some nice artwork. A rune library was a suprise!

Only if you are a die hard fan

I would only recommend buying this book if you love the Shadowhunter world, it is more of a collectible than anything else.

The Codex

Interesting background of the Shadowhunters and Downworlders. I really enjoyed the series, I like the richly woven world of the Shadow world coexisting with the modern world of today.

A keepsake school book for all Shadow hunters

If you are a fan of the Mortal Instruments it is a great book to have in our collection. It is very enjoyable and one you don't have to sit and read to the end. It is a school book and the added notes are fun.

Three Stars

Gives some background on the Shadowhunters, but don't know that it was worth the money...

My 13 daughter loves this author and read all her books O asked how she liked it she said it was a good read

Me encanta

Se lo compre a mi hija tiene la colección completa

Funny!

A must have for mortal instrument readers.

Awesome but if you can get the paperback version

This book is great there is a down fall you can't always read all of it but also. If you are reading the series The Immortal Instruments read the series first if not u might get a little confused but one thing that cursive handwriting is Clary's and Simon is caps and Jace is melting. It is also so informative ,interesting and funny

Excellent movie.

I got it for my daughter and she loves it .

So cute!

What a great gift this would make for someone who is a Mortal Instrument fan!! I got this as a gift for my Aunt and she loved it! It is a must for an Shadowhunter fan!

Information and laughs.

This book gives you background info on being a shadowhunter but what makes it a fun read is the side notes from Jace, Clary and Simon from the Mortal Instruments series. If you like the other books you will enjoy this as well.

So excited!

I was very excited when I came across this on Amazon, I had never seen it before. I have all of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices, so this is right up my alley. The book itself is awesome, goes into great detail about everything in the books, from the different demons to the different weapons and even Runes. And the best part is the shipping was so quick! I ordered it on a Friday night and came in the following Monday or Tuesday. Couldn't be happier.

Five Stars

I don't want this series/story to end. Keep these coming!

The cover art is really nice and my child really enjoyed the book

I purchased the hardback version for my child. It arrived quickly. The cover art is really nice and my child really enjoyed the book.

very good buy

waited a long time for this to come out. wouldn't mean much to anyone that hadn't read the mortal instrument series, but if you liked the series you'll love this as well. My grandchildren have everything that has to do with these books.

This is a Great book

It was great no pages missing and it was not torn any Cassandra Clare book lover would love this book all Shadowhunters should have this book

Amazing!

"The Shadowhunter's Codex" is the perfect book for "The Mortal Instruments" fans. It gives you all the inside to the Shadowhunter's world (including demons, weapons, and runes) and, which I consider the best part, it has notes from Clary, Jace, and even Simon, all over it. Cassandra Clare's amazing writing skills and humor are present in this book. Just, amazing!

Five Stars

Love anything Cassandra Clare.... Wish they would make another Mortal Instruments movie from her books. It's the best.

WOW!

Bought this after reading the books. It does help you understand morew about the Shadowhunters lives and what they believe. Pretty pencil drawings and Clary, Jace, and Simon write in the book!

codex

like al the books written by cassandra clare. they are easy to read ( i am from the netherlands ) i like the book. looking forward for more books.

Recommended

This book is confusing in that they don't explain things in this book the way a teenager would understand it very well.

Awesome detail!

Definitely do not get the ebook version of this! I can see why people said they didn't like it- I bought the hardcover and the illustrations are beautiful. It also has notes from all the characters in the Mortal Instrument series and I don't see how the structure would work well on a Kindle.

Clever Handbook

I thought it was very clever and did go quite a way to explaining some of the little points that may have been lost in the books themselves.

Five Stars

LOOOKING FORWARD TO READING!!!!!!

A great addition to my collection

Its a beautiful book and a brilliant addition to your Mortal Instrument collection. The added comments by the characters are fun and you often end up reading them before reading the actual page. It also have beautiful illustrations and gold edges and makes this a great gift for someone who love the series.

Love her books! Read them all and they are great!

Five Stars

great book

Absolutely wonderful!

I love this book! It is an excellent companion to the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books. I particularly like that this is supposed to be Clary's personal Codex. To demonstrate this, there are lots of drawings that Clary is supposed to have drawn and comments in the margins from Clary and friends. The side comments are often quite funny and they are my favorite part of the book. This can be read either from cover-to-cover or by flipping open to random sections of interest. I personally love the added information and details about everything from this world! Excellent book!

Excellent gift for a shadowhunter gift

Great quality and got here pretty quick, I love it!

Ready to Complete your Collection?

If you are a fan of The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, or both, this book is such a good addition to the collection. I absolutely loved to read all the extra details about the history of Shadowhunters and all the Downworlders. In all fairness, it didn't need to be Clary's copy; sure, it added a little bit of personality to it and maybe explained a few extra details to the readers, but it would have been a great book without them just as well. To its benefit, the drawings are very nice and help you imagine each character a bit better. Even though it isn't a story, but rather a sort of textbook, I loved reading every part of it and found myself wanting more details. The only important thing in my opinion is not to start reading the series from this book, because it will spoil some things; rather, read TMI and TID first. Definitely worth buying if you are thinking of completing your Shadowhunters collection.

Honestly, it is kind of boring. I love Shadowhunters though - so I had to have it :o) Can't wait for a 'real' new book.

Love it!

I love The Shadowhunter's Codex! I bought it because I wanted to read more about the Shadowhunters, what things mean, and so forth. But the side notes and comments by the characters are excellent! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world, and who love the interactions and dynamics of the characters.

I just love Cassandra Clare.

I had to get this book as I have all of the other ones in the series and what a great offer.

Shadowhunter's Codex

A fun read if you like the world Cassandra Clare created, and the characters notes are quite funny.

It's a descriptive footnotes of beings that are depicted in the stories of City of Angels. .

Five Stars

Love all Cassandra Clare books!

A great companion to learn about the Shadowhunters world

I loved delving deeper into the Shadowhunters world in this Codex. It's nice to see the breakdown of things Shadowhunters actually learn.

Wonderful Content Incompatible with eReader Format

Content is wonderful, on par w/ Ms. Clare's other works. However, the format is incompatible with Kindle. The book is supposed to contain notes and sketches by Clary, Simon, and Jace, but the comments are shoved in the midst of Codex text with different sizing but no change of typeface. Also some content, such as the list of runes, is incomplete. Partial runes are visible with no way to access the complete image or title. In my opinion, Amazon (or Simon & Schuster) should immediately cease offering this book in eReader format and offer all previous purchasers the option to put the Kindle purchase price toward purchase of the print book, as well as waiving shipping for said book.

Perfect condition

Absolutely in love !

Granddaughter loved it!
