Cordelia Carstairs is a Shadowhunter, a warrior trained since childhood to battle demons. When her father is accused of a terrible crime, she and her brother travel to London in hopes of preventing the family’s ruin. Cordelia’s mother wants to marry her off, but Cordelia is determined to be a hero rather than a bride. Soon Cordelia encounters childhood friends James and Lucie Herondale and is drawn into their world of glittering ballrooms, secret assignations, and supernatural salons, where vampires and warlocks mingle with mermaids and magicians. All the while, she must hide her secret love for James, who is sworn to marry someone else.
But Cordelia’s new life is blown apart when a shocking series of demon attacks devastate London. These monsters are nothing like those Shadowhunters have fought before—these demons walk in daylight, strike down the unwary with incurable poison, and seem impossible to kill. London is immediately quarantined. Trapped in the city, Cordelia and her friends discover that their own connection to a dark legacy has gifted them with incredible powers—and forced a brutal choice that will reveal the true cruel price of being a hero.

I think Cassandra Clare has run out of ideas.
I hate to give this book 3 stars because I love the Shadowhunter world, but, in my mind this book deserves it. I have a litmus test for giving a book 5 stars. First of all it has to be written well. I can't deny CC's talent as a writer and that is why this sits at 3 stars. Secondly, I must not be able to predict important plot points and thirdly, the book must affect me emotionally. Chain of Gold failed the last two. Sorry kids, but I knew exactly why James was in love with Grace. It was very obvious. For a character who is so smart and clever, it should have been obvious to James Herondale, too. Alas, it wasn't and now the reader will have to suffer through the obstacle to the real love story in this series. Kinda like the reader suffered through Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn until it reached a totally contrived and starnge reconsilliation. I bet I can predict the tropes/story in the next two books of the series, too. I am so disappointed. I truly anticipated the release of this series. I'm not angry. I'm just sorely disappointed that after waiting a while, CC had to fall back on a formula instead of writing something new-ish. I found myself not caring. This is the death knell for fiction for me. The only emotional response I had, other than frustration, was evoked when parts of Will, Tessa and Jem's story were referenced. I still contend that The Infernal Devices is her best set of books. Those books had it all. By the end of the book, I just didn't feel strongly enough about James and Cordelia to want to subject myself to two more books' worth of frustration as they figure it out. I wish she had spent as much time on Lucie as she did on James. (By the way, Lucie is spelled Lucy in at least 2 places in the book. I'm sure those are typos.) Lucie has great potential, and like the other characters have overlooked her in the narrative, so, too, has Clare. I did like that in making Cordelia of Persian descent that Clare has been able to incorporate some of her native culture into the tale. I really found that part interesting. I'd like to see more about the Carstairs family, their origins and their singular brand of shadowhunter. What other traditions do the Carstairs family have? The parallel telling of the Persian tale of Laila and Majnun is a very nice touch. It reminded me of how Rick Riordan incorporates mythology in his books. My feelings about this book are not going to dissuade the die hard Shadowhunter fan. To them I say, please read it. I know you'll enjoy it. Truth be told, I will be reading the next two when they come out because I am a fan of the series and I can't leave a series unfinished once I've started it. I just hope that CC sees my review and maybe changes some things around in the subsequent volumes so that I am totally wrong about how I believe the story will play out.
Meh
I’d almost given up on Clare after her last book but I was always a bigger fan of the Infernal Devices series so I thought I’d give it a shot. It’s...fine. Compelling and easy enough to read that I got through it in just a few days but not something I’d reread or recommend to others who aren’t already fans of her work. There’s too many characters, so many that it’s difficult to even really work out who the main protagonist is supposed to be. So many characters also makes it difficult to distinguish personalities. In her other books the characters had clear personalities and you could imagine how different people would react to different things. There’s some of that here, some characters are well defined but others are kind of cookie cutter and very easy to mix up. The mystery of the plot was mediocre, I didn’t even realize there was supposed to be a mystery or a twist until it happened. The retconning is insane. Clare clearly did not plan to add more to the Infernal Devices and has changed a lot of things (including claiming that a family tree included in one of the Mortal Instruments books is a fake). If you know the other stories well it’s a little bizarre. My biggest pet peeve by far is how underused the LGBTQ characters are. There are 5 gay/bisexual characters in this story...set in England in 1903...and other than one or two asides from “bad” characters, nobody seems to care. Everyone shows a level of acceptance that doesn’t even exist today outside certain bubbles. I want to be clear: I don’t have a problem with the inclusion of the these characters. I have a problem with the fact that their sexuality and gender nonconformity is not explored within the text. It would be so fascinating to see a character struggle between their love for their gay brother and the societal norms they were raised in (Huck Finn anyone?). But no, every single “hero” character is open and accepting without any question, without even any shock. And I know that the Shadowhunter world is not more accepting that mundane because a gay character literally says that in her very first book, set in the 2000s! One of the charters is obsessed with Oscar Wilde, he’s referenced often...but nobody ever mentions that he was tried and imprisoned for sodomy, became ill in prison and died in exile. That’s the world they live in, it should be part of the narrative. And frankly, that would make for some much more interesting and complex plots than some of the love story nonsense in this book. It almost feels like Clare wants the credit for including these characters but is afraid that her readership will reject a hero character that struggles to accept someone else’s sexuality.
An Excellent Addition to the Shadowhunter World!
Chain of Gold is the first book in the new Shadowhunters series, The Last Hours, and if you like fantasy, you need to read it. I absolutely loved it! There has been a Shadowhunters family tree going around for years that say that a certain couple were the ancestors of Jace Herondale. Then if you read "The Midnight Heir" (and some of Cassandra Clare's comments) you might wonder how this will all come about. And I have to answer... very well. The ships in this book are complicated, but that shouldn't be a surprise, as Clare is also the author that wrote about Tessa/Will/Jem and Cristina/Mark/Kieren. I'm left at the end of CoG wanting Chain of Iron just to find out about the ships alone! Then you have the characters. The main characters are the children of all the characters in The Infernal Devices. You don't have to read TID to enjoy CoG, but as the worlds are so interconnected, I think you'd appreciate them more if you do read them. I have a little trouble remembering which parent belongs to which kid (at least where the Lightwoods are concerned) but that doesn't matter because the parents are in the background. I especially love Cordelia. She's kind and brave. The plot is excellent and I was wondering for the longest time who was behind all the evil-doing. You don't find out until the very end what the true source of evil is, however. The book sets itself up very nicely for Chain of Iron, the next book in the series, but not with a Lord of Shadows moment where you're so frustrated that you have to wait a whole year to read the next book. I loved this book and highly recommend it, along with all the other Shadowhunters books. Clare builds such intricate and complex worlds, it always impresses me. Read it!
Captivating Story
Chain of Gold takes place in Edwardian London after the events of Clare's previously released trilogy The Infernal Devices. Cordelia Carstairs has just arrived to London with her mother and brother. Though it seems she has arrived to begin her training with her future parabtai, Lucie Herondale, her true mission is to establish relationships with influential shadowhunters. It's the only way she knows to save her father from persecution or to protect herself from the embarrassment of his impending failure if she doesn't save him. The dilemma is she has already fallen in love with James Herondale, son of Will and Tessa Herondale and Lucie's older brother. James it seems has already promised his heart and his life to someone else. Will Cordelia fight for her love or simply look away and seek another partner? Does it even matter when there are much darker, more dangerous happenings in London? Review: I loved this book so much!! It was the first shadowhunters book I've actually read, and I'm already planning out reads of the other series. Cassandra Clare KNOWS how to write. I was immediately sucked into the plot of this book. With every single page she left me wanting more, wondering what was going to happen next and who was deceiving whom. The story took so many twists and turns. I simply couldn't put it down! She did a wonderful job describing scenery, words, actions, etc. that were first introduced in her previous novels. So it's definitely easy to drop right into the shadowhunters' timeline with this book. I 10/10 recommend it to everyone! Pros: -very descriptive -easy to read -constantly evolving story line (it kept me intrigued until the very end) -plenty of loose ends for the next novel (though it might be frustrating to not have all the answers!!) Cons: -occasional repetitiveness -over explaining settings (I don't need to know every single decoration Tessa Herondale has changed or not changed since Will took over the Insitute)
Not as good as other Cassandra Clare books
I normally absolutely love Cassandra Clare and can’t say enough good things about her writing, however this book is so over worked trying to be a period piece set in the 17th or 18th century using words that are so absolutely unfamiliar it became difficult to understand. I spent much of my time using my Kindle to look up what words meant just to have some idea what she was talking about and I have a college degree. If I had been reading this in book format, I would have put it down and not finished it. Sadly, it didn’t hold the same level of excitement the other Mortal Instrument books did, and the characters didn’t have as much flare. Honestly, these are sold in the young adult genre, but I’m 49 and if I am lost reading .....well....someone’s writing over their audiences head!
It's okay
I waited an eternity for Clare's next book...big sigh..The book is nice and thick... I love the books!!... however it's plot is rather predictable - but perhaps she intended to focus on the less sophisticated of readers? That having been said I did enjoy the book. But to not have any idea when the next installment is to come out is quite frustrating!!!! I re- read all the books- yes all of them... before I read this one in preparation... When it arrived from amazon the cover was a little bit bent,And the spine of the book isn't as beautiful as a should be nor is the cardboard cover, there are many typos in this book which is too bad ... proofreader should feel shame... it is an enjoyable series of books... this I believe is like the 12th of the shadowhunters..not counting the Magnus Bane books ..who by the way Is the most delightful of all the charactetrs. Yes... Magnus is the best character of them all! I will say this book did not move me emotionally as some of the others, and it's far to contrived..Sigh... so hopefully the next two installments will come out quickly and be an improvement. Meantime I anxiously await the next installment of our darling Magnus Bane's Adventures! And I would remind the publisher that quality printing and quality binding are expected in any fist edition! I would not say that that was a Achieved here..
Loved it! Another great addition to the Shadowhunters world, with more amazing characters.
It felt so good to be back in the Shadowhunters world. I always forget how much I love this world Cassie has created until we get another book to dive into. Now, I will admit, it took me a minute to get into Chain of Gold. I love action and the beginning of COG doesn't have a whole lot of it, in my opinion. But I love the characters and they more then made up for the lack of action in the beginning. I obviously loved the story and the plot. Cassie always manages to throw me for a loop, and the way that she weaves her books and series together and connects them, still amazes me. She has said that you can read this book as a standalone, but I feel like the reading experience is much better if you have at least read the infernal devices and maybe some of the novella's in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and Ghosts of the Shadow Market. Like getting to truly enjoy seeing Will and Tessa as parents. Especially Will. ❤️ "Do not let those who cannot see the truth tell you who you are. You are the flame that cannot be put out. You are the star that cannot be lost. You are who you have always been, and that is enough and more than enough. Anyone who looks at you and sees darkness is blind." I don't usually enjoy multiple points of view, but somehow Cassie pulls it off perfectly. All of their pov's lend something important to the story. Obviously James and Cordelia are our main characters in this book, and I love them so much. But getting some of the other characters pov, Mathew, Lucie, etc, really lent something to the story. I never wanted to skim. Which happens to me a lot when I read books that have more that two pov's. Cassie's books are always a different kind of reading experience for me. I have loved this world from the beginning in The Mortal Instruments, and Chain of Gold was no different for me. Her writing only get's better with each book. I love so much that I am able to completely disappear into her words and forget reality while reading. Not many books can accomplish that for me anymore. "But at least we can always pick up a book and read it anew. Stories offer a thousand fresh starts." I pretty much loved every character in this book Except Grace and Tatiana Blackthorn. Mann, these two got on my nerves so much in this book. I really hope they both get what they deserve in Chain of Iron, though probably not because it's Cassandra, but a girl can wish. It took me so much longer to finish this book than I thought it would. I was savoring every page. I loved being back in this historical era as well. Cassandra does such a good job of describing this era, the fashion, and how life and society was in that time. It's all so well described without being overly detailed. This book was a lot less crushing than I was expecting it to be, so I have a feeling we're in for it with the next two. But I'm always happy to let Cassandra rip my heart out of my chest. 😂 "We do not get to choose when in our lives we feel pain," Said Mathew. "It comes when it comes, and we try to remember, even though we cannot imagine a day when it will release its hold on us, that all pain fades. All misery passes. Humanity is drawn to light, not darkness." If you have loved her previous Shadowhunter books you are more than likely going to love Chain of Gold. Five star read for me.
Chain of Gold (The Last Hours) - Book One in a new series
I acquired "Chain of Gold" from Amazon just yesterday, so I've yet to read it. I ordered the Hard Cover edition, and it's a BIG book! (Number of pages not identified, as the book has no page numbers printed). But It has a beautiful colored drawing of all the principle "actors" in the drama inside the front cover. Wonderful! Also, the book cover is beautiful--a full color painting of the heroine standing before a misty gate, her back to the reader, and she has a full mane of red hair filled with colorful fall leaves. She's holding a sword in her right hand. Quite a provocative scene. Cassandra Clare has, of course, been a prolific writer, and she has three completed sagas - The Mortal Instruments, the Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices. I'm somewhat surprised to see this new collection piece, but I'm certain it will be exciting and a captivating story, as all her stories are.
Who’s writing now?
It feels to me like someone has been ghostwriting the Shadowhunter books since the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices ended. I’m sure the writing schedule is punishing and fan interest is full of pressure, but it’s obvious that Clare is no longer writing the books with her name on them. There is a distinct lack of humor and the writing is far too polished.
Great start to the series!
Chain of Gold kicks off the latest Shadowhunters series, The Last Hours, with a new generation of Shadowhunters, devastating love stories, and the next evil demon threatening the world as we know it. Set in Edwardian London, Chain of Gold centers around the offspring of our heroes from the Infernal Devices series. In the years following the Clockwork War, the London Shadowhunters have enjoyed a period of peace free from demon attacks. However, strange, unfamiliar demons suddenly start attacking Shadowhunters in broad daylight, leaving the victims dying from a demon poison without an antidote. Although the new generation of Shadowhunters have been raised in a period of peace, they will have to trust their training and each other and band together to defeat this new demon threat. While Chain of Gold didn’t quite capture the same magic that made the Infernal Devices series so wonderful, it seems that writing historical fantasy is Clare’s true calling over the modern fantasy in the Mortal Instruments series. I love the way she weaves the culture of historical London into the Shadowhunter narrative. Like the other Shadowhunter series, Chain of Gold also has its own powerful, heart-wrenching love stories, in addition to plenty of action and adventure. Although the number of new characters and the ways in which they’re all related is a little overwhelming (the book really needs a family tree!), I was delighted meeting the new set of characters as well as seeing favorite characters from the Infernal Devices. I especially loved the strong female characters introduced - Cordelia, Lucie, Anna, and others. I can’t wait to see where the next book leads!
I think Cassandra Clare has run out of ideas.

Cassandra Clare knows how to write such...
Cassandra Clare knows how to write such a strong and compelling story with a colorful cast of characters who all have purpose. The Last Hours is the new series following the children of Will and Tessa from the Infernal Devices. And the story picks up about 20 years later. So in this particular series we follow a huge cast of characters which can be a little jarring for some people. I mean it is like 15 characters. I however am very familiar with them already so I felt like I was right at home. But I know that may not be the case for everyone. Any who our main cast consists of James and Lucie Herondale, Cordelia and Alastair Carstairs, Matthew Fairchild, Thomas, Christopher, and Anna Lightwood, and Grace Blackthorn. Those are pretty much the core, I know a lot. Each character though is utilized extremely well. Clare finds a way for everyone to have like I said a purpose and a reason. Also the relationships whether they be friends or more are intertwined so so well. Now the story was every bit as good as I was hoping. It has the right amount of action, mystery, romance, and all the twisty goodness in between. I constantly wonder if Clare will not be able to pull it off and that is not the case. You can definitely tell that this series was already planned out years ago. It has literally been a world she has been crafting for years and the passion is there. I did figure out some of the going ons beforehand. It in no way deterred me from complete enjoyment because the journey was well worth it. The seeds have been sown, the character arcs, have been set, the story has just begun, and I for one am so excited to get my hands on the next installment when it releases next year!
Brilliant - Clare at her Best!!
Where to begin? Brilliant writing, rich characters, and creative story line. The book explores the characters through a story that climbs its way through the labyrinth of history already foundationa!ized. The books' complexity made that much richer as the author forces one to delve into the past stories to enrich their knowledge to savor the path ahead. Not out of weariness, but out of excitement of what's to come. Clare is extraordinary in her ability to see the world through a lense that makes the reader care not just about the two main characters, but about the world in which they live, the families and friends, their struggles, and the outcomes. Even The bad guys are a dynamic force of nature! The most impressive is when you finish the book you think about it two days later, just wondering and anticipating the next revelation. I hope in the future Clare explores Matthew's journey with the same craft and texture she has used with each story already communicated. The blending of worlds, the fearless and loyal women, the deep bond of friendship, and the courageous dimensions of the men are a journey everyone has to take, for there is no book out there on the market equal in stature. I would give a word to Ms. Clare: don't let those that want to bring your characters to film degrade your next movies. The beauty is in the world you create through the sequence of events and the passion of your characters as they evolve. Allowing others to malign your movies through not sticking to your story or brutally chopping it up degrades your abilities and erodes your standing. Your stories would be exciting to see come to life, but on!y with ensuring the books integrity is in tact. You are a master story teller - take control and bring it to life.
mediocre addition to the shadow hunters series
Chain of Gold was, in my opinion, one of the weakest installments to the ShadowHunters series. We are sent back into the 1800s-1900s to partake in the adventures of Will & Tessa's children from the Infernal Devices series. Which by a long shot- is Clare's best work. I was so excited to get back into Will, Tessa & Jems stories, so I bought this book the day it was released! Ready to dive back in to characters I loved. I came out sort of disappointed.. What I liked: - Cordelia was a very likable character. She was of Persian decent so mixing her shadow hunter heritage along with her ethnicity was fresh and interesting. - Will, Tessa, & Jem's cameos. They were such a delight! and exactly why i picked up this book in the first place. -the time period. Coming fresh off of the "stalking jack the ripper" series, this book satisfied my need for another historical fiction novel. -the cover. Besides "Clockwork Princess" i do believe this cover is my favorite! The green and red glittering on the shiny paper.... very photogenic - the writing is undeniably beautiful. Clare has a way with words unmatched by most of her peers. what i did not like: -James. To be honest, if Cassandra Clare had accidentally changed his name to "Julian" from her pervious series, i wouldn't have known there was a mistake. The characters are exactly the same. - the fact that it now feels like Clare is adding gay/bisexual characters for the sake of having them in her books. The first series, and the reveal of Alec's sexual orientation was so well done. He was scared, he hid, no one knew, people struggled, and it was real. You mean to tell me the England early 1900s everyone would just be okay? I have nothing against it, but it would have been refreshing to see some of the characters struggle with it a little more. Would have added depth. - the sheer number of characters: there were so many i honestly couldn't remember who was who. The fact that she had to mention that one of them was the "Science guy" over and over instead of us just knowing was a sign that maybe she should have kept the group smaller and spent more time exploring their personalities. Since there were too many characters to do that, everyone else was just background characters for me that did nothing to advance the story. - This last one is possibly the complaint i will always have with Cassandra Clare's books.... NICKNAMES! Why does every single character have to have a nickname?!?!?! it was really bad in the Emma Carstairs series. for instance, in this book James was often called "Jamie" Why? its not shortened at all? and totally unnecessary I did still enjoy going back to the Shadowhunter world. I blew through the book in a few days. (tho there really isn't much to do during this time of quarantine) I just wish i could see something more original come out of Clare's writing. for instance, as i said on my instagram: What if one of the main protagonists were a simple Mundane. Nothing magical about them but special nonetheless. look at Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He had no powers, no magic, nothing supernatural. But he was still so important to Buffy and the gang. That's good writing. Also, imagine coming back to the demon world with fresh eyes. rediscovering the magic with someone who had no idea. I'm bored with every character already being aware. in fact, this story and Emma and Julian's story, to me, feel way too alike... I enjoyed while reading, but felt let down once i turned the last page. 4 stars because you cannot deny, Cassandra Clare can write, just very unoriginal
Frustrated
I was so incredibly excited to receive this beautiful book! But, when I opened it I immediately noticed the corner and spine were dented. Sooo frustrating!
On par
I loved all the other series that Clare has written and I will purchase all that she continues to write, I just think that the beginning to middle of the story drags a bit and there are so many main characters that at times its hard to remember who's who and who all is related and in what way. The love story/drama between Grace and James is too easy to see through, I figured out the twist too early on for my liking. Personally, I wish we would learn more about Alice, she seems so well thought out and described but doesn't get enough story time. I found myself more drawn to Matthew than James and wished other characters had too but with all his brooding and self destruction I'm sure we'll learn in future books there's reason behind the self loathing. I loved that Magnus makes his way into yet another series, rightly so, and found myself all too happy to stumble back into the character's wit and charm. Every book is like a where's Waldo but instead I'm searching for those cat eyes and blue sparks. Jem, who doesn't love Jem? Lucie has such a peculiar power to her but doesn't get a chance just yet to really shine. I could go on and on but plainly put, I've read and will read every shadowhunter book written because the world is described so vividly and because the connections between the characters gets under my skin in the best of ways.
Cassandra Clare has done it again
(Originally posted on kaleyconnell.wordpress.com) If you like action, romance, danger, drama, comedy, love triangles, mystery, magic, diverse characters, well developed plots, steamy scenes that’ll make you cry out, and other scenes that’ll just make you want to cry, Chain of Gold might just be for you. Anyone who has read anything by Cassandra Clare before will know exactly what to expect. As for people diving into her world of Shadowhunters and Demons for the first time, get ready for a wild ride. The story is fast-paced, entertaining, and thrilling. Despite being over 600 pages long, the story had no filler. Every passage plays a role in setting up the plot, developing the characters, and solving the mysteries. The story has some great suspense that kept me flipping the pages through the night and well into early morning. Chain of Gold was a wonderful book full of diverse characters, interesting plots, and a setting so detailed I could almost smell the cups of tea and feel the warmth of the hearthfire. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel next year!
It's a DNF for me
It sucks because I really enjoyed the mortal instruments and I've been getting into the infernal devices but this book ugh.... I just can NOT get into it. Too many POVs jumping from one to another way too fast and way too many characters you have to try to memorize what they look like and they were all introduced at around the same time. I just couldn't like this book. It sucks but it is what it is
Great start to a sequel series, too much reliance on short stories.
I gobbled this baby up in 2 days (which says a lot because Lady Midnight is still gathering dust on my TBR pile but I digress...) Regarding romance, the thing that frustrates me the most is angst due to miscommunication. Thankfully there was none of the sort here. The action was fantastic once it finally started. The only weakness here being the reliance of reader knowledge on CC's short stories for character background. I never read them, and was a little lost in certain aspects. That ending THOUGH. Way to tug at my heartstrings and ignite my anger at the same time. No spoilers, but man what a kick in the teeth for the (main?) ship. Anywho, can't wait for book two.
AMAZING I can't wait for the next book!
Simply incredible. If you enjoyed the clockwork series then you will really enjoy this book. We get to follow Will and Tessa's children as well as the children of their friends from the books (Sophie, Lightwood brothers, Cecily, Charlotte, etc.) and see those from the previous books as adults. I was so glad the identity of Tessa's father played such a role in this book because it's something I was always curious about. I completely adore the setting and Cassandra's description of early 1900 dress, etiquette, and style. Will and Tessa's children are really loveable characters and I look forward to following their story in the next books. James' friends are also really loveable characters and I adore his relationship with his parabati Matthew. There was one character that I completely hated but I won't spoil who because it's clear we're meant to dislike them. The ending was a bit upsetting because it seemed like the problem with (unnamed character) were resolved but it wasn't and ended in a cliffhanger.
Frustrating...and the same underlying plot of ALL Shadowhunter books
I will admit, I am a huge fan of Cassandra Clare. I have been following and reading her books since the release of City of Glass. And before reading ACOTAR, I never thought I would find a trilogy better than Clockwork Princess... I say that to tell you this...I feel the books have gone a bit downhill since Lord of Shadows. ESPECIALLY Queen of Air and Darkness! But it's not even the story that is bothering me now...it's the plot! The Clave NEVER listens! They are always skeptical, or prejudice, or slow to respond, or disbelieving in the knowledge of "children" That is like the central point of ALL the series. I think it worked for Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices...but for the same thing to be going down in the two new series PLUS some of the novellas (I admit I haven't read Red Scrolls or Ghosts)...it's getting boring and predictable.
Slow beginning to a new series, but intrigued nonetheless
Another harrowing adventure in the lives of The Herondales, Carstairs, Lightwoods, Fairchilds and Blackthorns. I love all the Shadowhunter Tales, therefore couldn’t bring myself to give only 3 stars but the narrative and POV changing so frequently amongst so many characters that we don’t yet know affected the pacing for me. Maybe if one chapter was from one POV before changing... would have helped. I went back to reread shorts from The Bane Chronicles, Tales from Shadowhunter Acadamy, and Ghosts of the Shadow Market to make sense of some of the characters. For someone who picks this up new to the world, I think they are missing important parts of character development if they have not read those shorts. That being said, I, excited about the plot and story this series will be exploring. Tatiana Blackthorns hatred and contempt arising from Clockwork Prince. Evolving the myths of Tessa’s paternity and how that is affecting her bloodline. Another parabeti bond being tested by forlorn love. I am definitely intrigued and look forward to the next installment. And Magnus Bane! I am grateful he will be staying in London and sending for his cat. His wisdom, dramatic flare, and sardonic wit is a necessity to me.
Loved it!
What an amazing new entry in the Shadowhunters Chronicles! Cassandra Clare has done it again. This book brings in a whole new cast of wonderful characters, who are the children of those from The Infernal Devices. While giving us snippets of those characters we all know and love, Clare brings us new characters to learn to love - which is easy, because they are all incredibly diverse and complex people. Chain of Gold takes place at the turn of the 20th century, in London, and the setting is perfect. There is just the right balance between propriety and debauchery, and of course demon slaying. Can’t wait to read the next one!
LOVED IT SOO MUCH!
I LOVED this series. The Infernal Devices is hands down my favorite trilogy Clare has written and being able to read about Will and Tessa’s children was just such a pleasure for me. I read other people comments and I think maybe the expected too much from her for it. I thought it was perfectly done. I cannot wait for the next in the series. I want to know more about Matthew and I want to know what happens with James and Cordelia. I feel like this book is just building up to something more. I rather enjoyed the Dark Artifices as well. Nothing is greater than forbidden love and proving people wrong right?
Can’t wait for the next!
This book had me from the very first chapter. The characters were well defined and interesting each in their own right. The storyline had me making time to read amongst all the other craziness going on in today’s world like no other book has since—well since the last Shadowhunter book. I almost wish I had followed one of my granddaughter’s plan and waited till the whole series was out so I could devour them all at once. Now I will have to be satisfied with waiting till March. Maybe I will just reread all the other Shadowhunter books in the meantime.
Not a good read.
I have purchased all of Ms. Clarke's books and enjoyed them all. This book is the first one to disappoint me. It seems to me that she has become stale on ideas. The book drags . The story is stale and so very the last book with only a change of names. I will NOT be buying the next book.
Not as good as previous books
In my mind, it wasn’t as gripping and compelling as previous books. I will continue with my plans to buy the 2nd book, but for some reason I just could not sink my teeth into this one. Maybe my mindset was off? I’m not sure. It was mostly just meh for me. And honestly, wishy washy James ( I know he’s influenced by the bracelet but still...) is kind of ...VERY annoying.
Less boring than expected but too long
Entertaining fantasy for teens. I would have preferred more demon/vampire hunting and less romance. All that teen angst made it too long. That James guy had a more complicated love life than Archie Andrews...oh well, I tried Cassandra Clare once. Not my type of fantasy, I'm too grown up for this but I've read worse!
Loved it
Personally I very much prefer the Infernal Devices characters more than Mortal Instruments, that's just me. Will, Tessa, and Jem are extremely well written and I love them so much. I kind of lost interest in the Blackthorn family series with Emma, haven't read QAD. So when Chain of Gold released I was excited! Will and Tessa's kids storyline? Sign me up! And I wasn't disappointed at all. Brought me back to my high school years. Cordelia is selfless and puts others before her inner interests, like with James Herondale - whenever she knew he was with Grace (that stupid bracelet that bound him) she figured he wanted to be with her and left. I can't wait for the next book.
The Second Best Generation of Shadowhunters
This new series is actually a continuation of the next generation of the shadowhunter generation after Tessa, Will and Jem. I was worried about the characters not being distinct, but right off the bat the POVs were distinctive and all very much their own character and easy to follow along with. My second worry was family ties and keeping everyone straight. All the major families are back and with at least two kids to boot. That's a lot of characters to keep straight, but the first few chapters have sorted everyone out rather quickly. It will also be interesting to have a cast of characters with siblings. So far the Blackthorns and Lightwoods are the only shadow hunter MCs that are not only children. I'me very excited to see how that dynamic plays out. In the opening chapters we are introduced to quite the gang. The boys of the major families have formed their own sort of group that seems to have each other's backs while also having a grand time of things. Their easy camaraderie reminded me that of past (or present) shadowhunter relationships, but more because of the size of the group. James seems to have Will's looks but take after Tessa and is hopelessly in love with Grace, only no one knows and she didn't tell him she was moving to London. Meanwhile, Cordelia Carstairs has just arrived in London as well after a scandal and is hopelessly in love with James herself. Although we know who ends up marrying who, this already seems like a tragic mess and like it will be a fun to watch it all play out. Above all this though, there is the mystery of why there are fewer and fewer demons in London. The writing seems to be in line with more of The Infernal Devices Trilogy than that of The Mortal Instruments. It feels a tad more mature. The descriptions of London were on par as per the TID trilogy and it seems as if we'll be exploring the backdrop of London more than that of the previous trilogy which will be exciting. I also loved knowing how certain people would end up together but not knowing how they would get there. So many dang twists and turns. Also might be slightly obsessed with Anna Lightwood and Matthew Fairchild.
Amazing Story! Book arrived Damaged
I have already listened to the book on audible and absolutely loved it. Cassandra Clare is genius and the Shadow hunter Chronicles never disappoints. Once I learned of the collector’s first edition I knew I had to have it, as well as wanting to physically read it. However I was very disappointed to find damage on the inside of the cover! As well as minor damage to the dust jacket, however I think if I get a dust cover protector it could correct that, so I’m not overly concerned.
Good Story, bad quality binding
The book itself I haven't finished reading - but so far I love Cassandra Clare's latest novel, just as much as I love the rest of her Shadow Hunter series. My complaint here is for the quality of the book, which should probably be reviewed under the manufacturer. After reading about a hundred pages, the contents of the pages decided to completely rip away from The binding and my book is now essentially split in half (photos attached). While this doesn't compromise the story itself, it does make it hard to read and hold together. So I'm obviously disappointed in the manufacture/make/quality of this book, but I'm still excited to continue reading it. Kudos to Cassandra Clare, not so much for whoever constructed this book.
Cassandra lo hizo de nuevo! 4.5/5
Wonderful, as always
I love Cassandra Clare. I’m not a teenager, and I find these books well thought out and beautifully written. I had looked forward to The Last Hours series because The Infernal Devices are my favorite. I was not disappointed. I would have liked more scenes with Will and Tessa, but I just as easily fell for their children. I recommend this book and all the Shadowhunter books from Cassandra Clare to folks from 13 to 80.
I loved it.
I wasn't quite ready for this series. I had bought both thr first and second books, only to set them on my shelves to collect dust. I am so happy a friend pushed me towards this series. This is such a fun take on some of my all time favorite characters from the Infernal Devices. This book followed the lives of their children, and was written so beautifully. One thing I didn't quite like was there were so many characters. I felt like I almost had to write up a family tree in order to try and remember each character, and who their parents were, etc. Even though there were so many characters, I will give it to Clare on how beautifully she wrote them all. She was able to infuse personality into each one which gave the book a step above most series I have read recently. Cordelia is quite possibly one of my all time favorite book characters to date. She is very loveable. Hands down, 5 stars.
Love all the books in the series
The best thing about shadowhunter books is reading each one the second or third time, because there are so many characters and plot twists, wonderful things are overlooked or connections between individuals or subplots missed the first time. The worse thing about shadowhunter books is that they always end until the next sequel or prequel and one must wait anxiously for the next one.
Cassandra Clare does not disappoint!
Adding to her vast shadowhunter universe, Chain of Gold delivers a dynamic cast of character with a few already beloved ones sprinkled in. If you are a fan of the Infernal Devices, this series will be very intriguing. The audience gets to see how Will and Tessa act as heads of the institute. How Tessa being part demon affects her children. And most prominently, who her demon father is. The sprawling cast is a huge testament to Cassandra Clares world building skills. Set in london again and yet it shares none of the grungy undertones found in The Infernal Devices. I cannot explain how excited I am to read the next two books in the series as they come out. All of the characters have burrowed their way into my heart that is already constantly over flowing with beloved fictional characters. The story is very complex and is the fantasy is brilliantly blended with historical fiction.
A fantastical world
As always a well written executed story set on traditional themes of good and evil , misguided revenge, teen angst and love that tackles some very real emotions on some so young. Love well researched old London and the touch Enid Brighton as smart teens outwit the bad guys and their elders - who of course do nothing to solve the issues. The irony is their parents did the same when they were young. I’ve read those books too
Cassie’s Best Work Yet!
i have read all of Cassie’s books and all of the series and i honestly think this will be my favorite of all of them! the first book is SUCH an amazing start to the series and i just finished it and already want to reread it immediately. Cassie has created complex antagonists and protagonists that aren’t just black and white or wholly good or evil and it makes the story way more interesting! you find yourself rooting for characters that you in theory should hate and then questioning characters you should love and it makes for a WAY better reading experience! i love meeting and exploring new characters plus seeing beloved ones from TID and cannot wait for the next one to come out!
In love with Chain of Gold
This book came incredibly quickly like that same day quick and absolutely adored reading it. I’ve been casually reading the Shadowhunter chronicles but Chain of Gold has reinvigorated my love for the series. It’s a wonderful book and I love the inspiration from Great Expectations as well as the large and loveable cast. The Edwardian Era setting is lovely as well.
The Last Hours appears to be a Captivating Series
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and the plot line is complicated and interesting. Will, Tessa and Jem have been my favorite characters. I am very interested in the next generation. Read this book if you enjoy the world of Shadow Hunters! I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next book.
My favorite!
This is being marked as one of my favorites! I LOVED this one and every single one of the characters. I am also officially caught up with the Shadowhunter World! *except for the recently released Lost Book of the White. I wish I had taken the chance and read all these earlier and as they came out, but now I can.
Amazing!!!
Wow Cassandra Clare does it again! Action, revelations, betrayal, engagements, and shadow realm travel. I love that I got to return to the shadow world again. I couldn’t put this book down. If you already love the books prepare to be blown away because everything is amplified. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
Solid Gold
There is just something about Clare's Shadowhunter tales set in London that set them above and beyond the others, though I'm a zealot for all of them. The well drawn and interesting characters, from the MCs to supporting, like Anna, Alistair, Thomas, Jesse. They are all captivating, all have their motivations, and all enrich the story and world. Already counting down the days to book two.
Best book Clare has put out in a long time.
I love Cassandra Clare, I've read all her Shadowhunter books, but I didn't particularly enjoy The Dark Artifices (her latest series), her characters were great but I thought the plot meandered and the books were overly long. Chain of Gold however, was practically perfect. I loved everything about it. It captured my attention, I was invested in the characters, it gave the characters some depth and backstory without losing sight of the main plot while still leaving you wanting the next book.
It’s like, going back home after a long time
Man, Cassie knows how to give us brilliant characters again and again. I will always love the legacy of shadowhunters and Will, Jem and Tessa have always been my favorite nephilim. It’s so nice to go back to their kids world now. James, Math, Cordelia and Luce, I love them with my whole heart. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year so thanks Cass.
If you loved infernal devices, you'll love this
Love it! Clare did it again with her amazing characters and fantastic plot and details. I have always loved her work, but all her books in London hold a special place in my nerdy England loving soul. Always have had the biggest crush on Will Herondale and his son is just as angsty and amazing. Would for sure recommend-- made an awesome time killing pandemic past time!
Must read! ❤
Anyone else want to know what happened to Cassandra Clare with ducks? "Blood thirsty beasts." 😅 Another amazing novel that will leave you on edge with every story line. As every other first book of each series she writes it does start a little slow, however it easily maps the characters and setting filling them in just as an artist would fills the canvases of their love.
I'm more excited about this series than the previous ones. I love the ensemble cast
Not bad. I def love the cast of characters, although it's so hard to keep up with who is who/family ties/relationships. A lot of things were pretty obvious and these books never need to be as long as they are, but still a good read and I'm excited for the rest of the series.
Fan of the shadowhunters
Another great Shadowhunter book. Honestly the first few chapters threw me for a bit of a loop trying to remember all the different Shadowhunter families and their lineages, but it got rolling pretty quickly. Lots of action and adventure. Looking forward to the next book!
Too Many Main Characters— confusing!
I have just started reading this. I have read all of Clare’s books, including “The Infernal Devices.” I am struggling so much with the large number of main characters and trying to differentiate them. I wish there was a section in the book or on Clare’s website that included a family tree. Otherwise it is a great read so far.
worth it
Chain of Gold was a moving story of sacrifice, heartbreak and friendship. Although there were many diverse characters to juggle they were each given equal importance and spotlights throughout the course of the story and were given unique, individual personalities. The plot didn't crowd or take over the story giving the characters room to develop and breathe. Overall chain of gold was a highly enjoyable book to read and I would recommend it to high schoolers.
Fun characters!
The shadow hunter teens are at it again in the next generation following Infernal Devices. Strong females, romance mysteries and new dimensions in the layers of fantasy realms inhabited by angels and demons. Cliff hanger....of course!. Waiting for Book 2!
Great Product!
An absolute beautiful hardback book! I’ve been reading the Shadowhunter Chronicles for quite some time now, and this novel definitely doesn’t disappoint. Filled with adventure, friendship, romance, and mystery, this first installment in the Last Hours Trilogy is epic!
Beautiful addition to the story.
Such a fun story. It was great to see both new and old characters woven together to make a great plot. Love that the new main leads have great relationships and good plots. Cordelia being a woman of color is great. And a lot of good representation of LGBT+ characters (defining themselves the best they can with the language available in the early 1900s.) Great start to a new series and can't wait for the next.
I am just tired of cliffhangers and trinkets
Nothing seems to end one tale while setting up another. The way the two main characters end up...no closure. And im sure shes going to drag that relationship through mud and twists and turns...im just exhausted always having to wait 5 yrs for something....i think im just done.
Condition of dust cover
While I am still excited to read this I am disappointed in the condition it arrived in. It appears that the book was damaged when it was placed in the box to ship it as the box it arrived in was very sturdy and showed zero signs of damage. While the dust cover isn’t a huge issue it still matters and based on other reviews I am not the only person to have a damaged book.
5 Stars
Cassandra Clare has again written a book that is magical. The world of Shadowhunters is fascinating. James, Lucie, Cordelia and The Merry Thieves have opened up a new link that I can’t wait to continue reading. Highly Recommend!
Clare does it again!
The sequel to the series The Infernal Devices. If like me, you absolutely loved TID, you will fall in love all over again with this sister sequel. Will, Jem, Tessa, Henry, Charlotte are back again, but with their own children, who are fighting demons once again in the victorian set stage. I love Clare's writing in this entire series, so when I heard she was writing a sequel series, I was over the moon ready to be blown away, and it did not disappoint.
Very good, more like infernal devices than TMI.
Well written, I’ve read all the major series so far but I struggled w dark artifices, I couldn’t get into it fully but I finished it. This book brings me back to the infernal devices type of drama and I love it. Can’t wait for the next!
Pete Repeat
Okay so this is a repeat of the mortal instruments just set back to the future style. Still a fun read. And the series will be like a prequel series to The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices series.
Great Expectations, but with Herondales
Cordelia is half Jem and half Emma and I kind of love it. James has Will's hair and Jace's eyes, which makes for devastating combo. And Lucie is adorable! Loved this, I can't wait for book 2.
LOVE this series already
I'm almost at the end of the book and it is THE BEST, I love Cassandra's writing and it just keeps getting more awesome each time. Can't wait to read chain of iron and chain of thorns. It has an amazing style and the book quality is amazing, love the design of the jacket and the image it has inside (also it has a bonus story of Will and Tessa I'm thrilled to read at the end) 100% recommend for anyone who like the infernal devices and was left wanting more!
Excellent
Another great shadowhunter book. I wasn't sure at first, but once you get through the introduction of all the characters and figure out who is who, things pick up and the story sucks you in.
Favorite one of them all!
This book had me reading until 3 a.m for 3 nights in a row, I simply could not put it down! Hands down my favorite book out of all the series so far. My only disappointment is now having to wait a whole year for the next one. I have the feeling the second installment is going to be even better! Now I must go re read TID! 😍❤🥰
Such a Beautiful Book!
This book is so beautiful, I love the cover. The text and line spacing are perfect, big enough for reading. Also I love the texture of the pages, it's a good quality book. I received it in good condition, though there are some dents on the cover. For now, my review is only for the product itself since I have not read it yet, will update once I finish it. Love the books ~ All the way from Philippines 🇵🇭
Very disappointed
This book was such a disappointment, it was basically a retelling of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which is a shame cause I was really looking forward to a much better story. I loved the Infernal Devices and was hoping for a good story but there is no originality in this book and is a poor knock off of Harry Potter.
came quickly
The item came quickly and was packaged well. Item was as described, and I love anything Cassandra Clare so I can't wait to have a minute to crack it open and start reading it
Excellent read, great diversity!
Cassandra Clare has brought a thoroughly researched early 20th century London to life. I enjoyed it immensely! While it was rather hard to read past the first couple of chapters, it eventually became apparent that this is another of her brilliantly weaved stories. I really appreciate the diversity and adversity that her characters face. It makes this story so incredibly relatable. LGBT, substance abuse, POC... She has it all. And how refreshing it is!
MUST READD
One of her best books omgg it was so good. Must read The Infernal Devices before (but not TDA or TMI). 10/10 A+ i never get tired of this world. Cordelia Carstairs is by far the best main character on a TSC book.
Another win for Cassandra Clare
This book deserves 10 stars but I was only able to give it 5. Why? The characters are full of virtue and yet, they are human. This book will make you love the Shadow hunters world even more. Also... Men 😍😍😍
It arrived perfectly, thank you.
It arrived in the estimated date and in very good conditions, a pity some people received it damaged, but mine is mostly intact. The special illustration of Cassandra Jean is gorgeous, printed in a very nice quality paper and ink. And although is a thick book the spine is very well done for prevent it from cracking. Can’t wait to read it!!
Shipping took forever, product not as expected
Shipping took forever with this seller (4 days after the expected delivery date). And the book is just as big as a hardcover instead of the paperback smaller size. Doesn't match my paperback collection. Will be returning
Welp
Part of this I felt dragged just a tiny bit but for the most part it was well paced. A lot is going on for sure but man is it good to be back in this world and this time.
More focus on the story line
More focus on the story line instead of a homosexual agenda. I enjoy a story with no outside, underlying agenda. Nothing makes me shut a Fantasy book faster than when the author is pushing a political agenda
Great addition
Love the shadowhunter chronicles. This book has this new trilogy off to a little of a rocky start but I see potential in it. I would recommended it to the loyal fan base and people who are looking for an amazing series to start.
Author getting sloppy
Love MTI books, however these last ones seem lacking since the author started collaborating with others. I wish she'd put her full attention back in the books for the masterpieces they used to be.
Love your writing style!
I love your books. I love the continuation of the SHADOWHUNTER saga. It's great to go back to the stories of the old families.
Well written
Totally enjoyed this novel. While I found out 1/2 way thru the book I was reading out of order, I continued on and throughly enjoyed it. Definitely will now go back and read the entire series.
Simply amazing
If you are a fan of fantasy Cassandra Clare is the go to! This continued history of shadow hunters forever has my heart. I highly recommend you read the prior books before this one so you know who is who. Now I have to wait a whole year for the second book.
Okay book
Such a good book up until a little bit past the second part. honestly, beautiful writing. I’m leaving this 3 stars because one of the main characters is stupid. Sorry James.
Fun
I was a bit worried about buying this book because I don't particularly like the story that it is based on (Great Expectations) but I did really enjoy reading the book. Still a nice, fun easy read that keep you interested and entertained. I also liked the characters.
Mesmerizing the soul
You have not lived if you have not gotten a taste of the faerie lands, the shadow world unseen and tasteless to mere mundanes, the flavorful winds of the wild hunt... With stars in my eyes, with deep golden love within my soul, I swear to all of you, you’ll be reborn, your soul woken to new lands, your life anew! And remember... “All the stories are true” quote by Cassandra Clare ~rlar
In love with this book
I looooooooved it. If you love Shadowhunters novels do yourself a favor and, buy this hardcover book. It's such a great gift. I ll be impatiently awaiting for the second book.
Best book
For me this book is better than Clockwork Angel, and Lady Midnight. Cassandra wrote this book paying a lot of attention to the characters. I feel like more than usual. Each of the characters is very outlined, i feel that this book has the best characters that the author has written.
A lot of sadness and despair
I couldn't give this 5 stars like I would Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments. I dont like that if James is such a clever man why hasn't he seen through the deception he's been in the entire time?? Definetely didn't like how the ending turned out. I atleast got to see more of Tessa, Will, Jem, and the other families such as the Blackthorns, Carstairs, Fairchilds and Lightwoods.
Happy to be back in this world.
The Infernal Devices was my favorite of the Shadowhunter stories, and hygiene new installment about the next generation absolutely lived up to my hopes. I totally enjoyed it and can’t wait for book 2.
Love it!
Love Claire's books, love them all. This new series or rather installment, is great.fresh characters, new plots, mystery, ghosts... Can't wait for the next one!
Loved it !
I can't wait until the next one! I love all of the characters. The book was a little long and too many points of view .
Great beginning to this part of the Shadowhunter Chronicles
As always, Cassandra Clair has written an excellent story. I’m excited for the rest of this series!
Beautifully Written!
A masterpiece, really. This book is wonderfully written and the cover is absolutely gorgeous. All the characters were beautifully written, and the descriptions were on point. I love all of Cassandra Clare's books, and I've been waiting for this one for a while. Needless to say, all my high expectations were met with flying colors. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone!
Loved it'
As always, Cassandra did an amazing job! I love how she incorporates characters from her other novels. Especially falling in love with Will, Tessa, and Jem in The Infernal Devices. And to follow their children in another adventure is fantastic! I can’t wait for the next installment!
Love everything from Cassandra Clare
Although not as tantalizing as Infernal Devices, The Last Hours’s first book does not disappoint and I look forward to the next in the series. There are far more characters in this series—familiar ones and new ones—and it is certainly exciting to see what will happen to each of them.
YES.
If you have been reading Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments world, this is another fantastic piece, filling in even more history with characters mentioned in other books! Love love love it, can’t wait for the next installment in March!!!
Awesome!
Love all of Cassandra’s books! Keep them coming and I will keep on reading them. They are the best! Thanks.
Awesome
So cool. Love it can’t wait to read. Came in perfect condition. Definitely recommend.
When does the next book come out?
I devour books by Cassandra like candy. This one did not disappoint. I love the characters and scenery she creates for the readers. Can’t wait to read the next installment.
Precioso
Lo compre en versión tapa dura y a pesar de que sabia que no era primera edición, me emociono mucho que al abrirlo viniera la imagen de los personajes y el extra de la boda de Will y Tessa!!! :D
Loved it!
If you have read any of her other books, you will love this one! Just read it, you’ll love it!
Late and damaged
Preorderd this months before it came out and it came 2 weeks after it was released to the public and it came slightly damaged with the book cover ripped on the spine.
Amazing
I absolutely love that the story continues after the Clockwork series. I am a bit of a history/genealogy buff and I love following the family lines through the books!
This book is wonderful.
I loved it more than I thought I would. My soul has been fed. It felt like going home after a long time away.... If that makes any sense. It's Infernal Devices 2.0.
Loved it! (As Always)
AMAZING. I love all of Cassandra Clare’s books, and this series is going to be fantastic! Can’t wait for the second book next year! Excellent!
I cannot wait for the next chapter
It was great to read about all my favorite Shadowhunters and his families. I can’t wait to read the next books
Do not miss this book! Read it now!! :)
Did not disappoint! I was really worried that this book would not live up to the hyped and expectations but it did! In fact it surpassed it! Can’t wait for book 2!

Another great edition to the shadow hunter series!
I have been in love with these books since I picked up the very first book.. I'm so glad after all the years of waiting for the sequel too the infernal devices series, that I wasn't disappointed.

A Must-Read for Shadowhunter fans
I have a difficult time trying to figure which Shadowhunter book I love and it's a tie between this book (Chain of Gold) and Infernal Devices trilogy. It's a spectacular book and I can't wait for the second and third installment.
must read !
I loved this book! It’s very different then what I usually read. I was a bit confused with so many characters but over all I loved it! I adore the fact that James and the merry thieves are very loyal to each other it shows they truly love each-other and I think that’s a great representation of friendship. Can’t wait for Chain of Iron!
Good book
Love this series a good book to read
Part of the model instruments series
Part of Cassandra Clare's mortal instruments world
Was packaged well
Awesome book was packaged great
Fabulous
Absolutely fantastic. As I expected. I am ready for book 2
I will read her shopping list
I've been a huge fan of Cassandra Clare for the past decade, I've read pretty much everything she has written and this book still doesn't disappoint.
Love
Love this series
Lover of all the Shadowhunter books
I had a hard time getting into the Infernal Devices as it moved slow at times. However, Chain of Gold was fast paced from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the book. I like how Cassandra writes from the perspective of all the major characters and not just from one person's perspective. I can't wait for Chain of Iron to come out next year.
If you love Cassandra Clare, you will LOVE this book
I loved this book! The characters are amazing and easy to love... or to hate... and the plot is wonderful. I am passionate about all of Cassie's books and if you have read her other books, then you need to read this one.
Book

I Will Be Re-Reading This!
Fabulous ❤️
Cassandra Clare has done it again!
Good book. I can’t wait till her next one comes out.
Great! Phenomenal.
So many twists and turns. Out of all the starting books of a shadowhunter series, this one goes down as one of the best!
Cassie Clare does it again!
Brilliant. Delightful. Compelling. I finished reading it and immediately started again!

Difficult to put down
Such an exciting story! I stayed up way too late on several occasions to pour through it. Cannot wait for the next book!
Another masterful read
I love how pieces of all the books show up in unexpected places! I just love this time period. The fashion, the language, the formalities. All the feels. Thank you for another clever addition...
Good good good goodness
Good good good
Imperfection on front cover
Just received this book and can't wait to start reading it. Only issue is that there is a small mark on front cover. For a collector's edition there should be no imperfections.
Perfect
Beautiful and perfect condition at a way lower price than I usually can find hard covers for
👍
Loved reading the continued history of the Shadowhunter world. Can’t wait for book two! Hate not having the next installment.
One of my favorite Cassie books yet!
Chain of Gold was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it lived up to the hype! Now I cry in the corner till Chain of Iron gets released next March 🥺🥺🥺🥺

Not as good as most of her books I lost interest pretty quick
Great new series
Enjoyed the book
Great story
The story is fantastic. Can't wait for the next book. There was an unexpected twist and an existing one for that matter.
Chain of Gold
Loved it! Glad we have a book that follows shortly after The Infernal Devices! This book has so many good new characters and room for development in the next books!
SO GOOOOOD
I totally recommend. Not only is the book amazing and it smells amazing, but the cover is also gorgeous. I loved looking at it when I first got it. 10/10 recommend.
Cover
As a person who loves books in their perfect state, I was sad to see the cover crumpled. The book is great though. Still my favorite book universe
Amazing author
Received quickly and am thrilled to begin reading! I've read her city of bones books and absolutely devoured them.

Amazing!
Great book! Great series! Favorite author!
Great Read for Shadowhunter Lovers!
I would love to give this a 5-star rating, but there was just too much information going on, and for some reason, I feel as if I couldn’t get close enough to any of the characters in the books.
Good book
