The first of a three-book story arc about the American Revolution, The Redcoats Are Coming follows Patrick and Beth as they assist the revolutionaries by waking up the sleeping citizens of 1775 Concord before the Redcoats come. In this adventure, the cousins meet Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock. They help smuggle musket balls, sound the alarm that the Redcoats are coming, and deliver a secret message to Paul Revere. Along the way they learn that most of the revolutionaries leaned on God’s direction and even pastors helped in the cause.

Christian parents and teachers will appreciate the historical facts as well as the biblical worldview training their kids and students will absorb. The kids will appreciate the excitement and tension of an America at war with England, and in some ways, with itself. A curriculum for Christian schools and homeschool families is available for download from Focus on the Family.

Great Sub-series Within a Series!

Just like the other Imagination Station books, my kiddos and I loved this one! This is the first in a sub-series revolving around the Revolutionary War. We read this book as part of a homeschool unit study on the American Revolution. Like the other Imagination Station books, this had all of my kids (ages 6, 9, and 10) on the edge of their seats--we do these ones as read-alouds, though one of my daughters read it in advance and was excited that we were going to use it for school. The end of the book was especially surprising--the perfect cliff hanger! We've already ordered the next book, Captured on the High Seas, and can't wait to receive it!

Great book that has actual Revolutionary history!

In this book Patrick and Beth are sent by Mr. Whittaker to give a letter to Paul Revere. They are sent to warn the colonists that the redcoats are coming! Two British spies almost catch them more than once! At the end one of them shoot the Imagination Station. It takes them to the middle of the war on a ship at sea! My favorite part is where Mr. Brown falls through the step trying to catch Beth. This is a good book for kids ages 8-11. By: Joshua, age 10

Good book

My son loves it

Good series for kids

8 year old loved it. Read it in about an hour in one sitting but she has quite an appetite for reading.

Riveting

Kept me on the edge of my seat. This is just immediately before the Revolutionary War began. The cousins have a letter to give to Paul Revere. But meanwhile, the cousins get entangled with the Patriots, which is considered treason. How do they get out of this mess? You'll have to read to find out.

Kids love them...

My kids love this series. Every new book that comes out is immediately on their "wish list". The books are simple and easily read. The history presented in them is simple... but engaging. And they always bring out good lessons.

Fun series

My 8-year-old has read the whole series. This is a great way to get a kid interested in history as well as to reinforce truths about God and about good character. The Revolutionary War installment was a special bonus for us!

Great series!

This book series is a favored among our 5 children! They are anxiously awaiting the next book to come out due in May 2014.

Love this series

Kids love this series! Sons who were struggling readers, and didn't want to read anything want all of these books. Good, clean, exciting fun books for kids.

Great book.

I love it a lot! The fights are great. I love that they talk about the Bible. I would recommend this to anyone. - review by a 7 yr old.

Great books

Great adventure books for children!

Our twins (boy/girl age 9) really enjoy these books! It's the first series that my son was ever really interested in, and now he loves to read.

a Blast from my past

What I Thought: You don't even know how excited I was at the opportunity to review an Adventures in Odyssey book. This is the stuff of my youth, sitting around the radio with my sister listening to Whit and the kid's have adventures at Whit's End. It's so cool. This is my children's first introduction to AIO, and having just purchased some of the CDs for them to listen to, and was excited to see how they responded to the book. While it is probably a little bit old for my five year old, she still sat and listened and actively engaged when something caught her ear. My seven year old was definitely engaged and asked when we could read the next chapter. I love the idea of introducing real, historical adventures to kids, in a way they can plainly understand. In fact, I even learned a few things that even I hadn't known. This is a really exciting prospect - introducing history to my kids since both the hubby and I are huge fans. What is even more awesome is that you can access curriculum that pairs well with the series. And with a three book series that sounds like it could be something awesome. I would love to explore the curriculum with my children and go further into the content with them, on a level they can understand. Having some experience with Focus on the Family and the Adventures in Odyssey radio series and movies, there is no doubt in my mind that these books and accompanying curriculum would be awesome.

Christian Magic Tree House

Patrick and Beth are off on another exciting adventure, courtesy of the Imagination Station. This time they are heading back in time to 1775 in Massachusetts, where they meet some founding fathers and help the cause of freedom by collecting musket balls and looking out for Loyalist spies. When Patrick loses a letter he is supposed to deliver to Paul Revere, things go from bad to worse as Patrick and Beth are accused of being spies. Will they be able to convince the Patriots they aren't spies and find the letter for Paul Revere? I recently read another book in this series, Voyage with the Vikings, and enjoyed it very much. I was looking forward to reading this one, to see how it gave children a taste of history in an entertaining way. This story did not disappoint! Patrick and Beth not only encounter founding fathers, thus giving young readers an opportunity to gain familiarity with them, but they also get involved in the cause, which gives young readers a chance to learn about how even children participated in the Revolutionary War. I love this series of books as Christian-friendly alternative to the Magic Tree House books. Patrick and Beth share their belief in God with others they encounter and learn how to rely on God as they go about their adventures. My children enjoy these books very much, and I love it when they read. Any of the books in this series would be great for young readers to read independently from age 7 and up, but would also be appropriate as a read-aloud for younger children. I highly recommend this series, especially for parents that don't wholly embrace the "magic" in the Magic Tree House series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Great Addition to Your Library

In the Imagination Station book #13: The Redcoats Are Coming! authors Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders take us on an adventure with cousins Patrick and Beth set in 1775, Concord, Massachusetts. Imagination Station books are a big hit in our home. We have most of the series and are always excited when a new title becomes available. This particular title came just as we were studying the American Revolution time period. As a parent, I appreciate how History and Christianity are interwoven throughout the book. The occasional picture provided a great way of capturing the child's attention without serving as a distraction. The length of the book was just enough to draw the child into the plot and keeping their interest for the next adventure. This particular story ends in a cliffhanger which will be later revealed in book #14, which we look forward to reading as well. Below are my daughter's thoughts on the book as well. Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders are the authors of The Redcoats Are Coming!. In this book they capture the beginning of the revolution. By using children it makes it child friendly. It was particularly intriguing when they brought in many different characters. I also enjoyed that the writers put the book together by focusing on History and Christianity at the same time. I enjoyed reading The Redcoats Are Coming! and rate it five starts. I recommend this book for seven year-olds and up. I received a complimentary copy of above mentioned title from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an independent and unbiased review.

Imagination Station-The Redcoats Are Coming!

The Redcoats are Coming, an Adventures in Odyssey book by Focus on the Family, is a walk into the Revolutionary war with Patrick and Beth as they assist uncle Whit, the keeper of Imagination Station, on an adventure to awaken the citizens of Concord Massachusetts before the Redcoats come. On their adventure, Beth and Patrick must deliver the letter to Paul Revere, but also find themselves meeting Samuel Adams and John Hancock along the way. Their adventure they find is far more then just witnessing firsthand the actions that took place during the revolutionary war, as they themselves partake in the events, smuggling musket balls and helping sound the alarm that the Redcoats are coming! This book is a great way for children six and over to not only learn about the historical facts of this time, but to also learn how the people during the time of the revolutionary war looked toward God for direction. This book brings a more biblical view that is sometimes forgotten in history books, and would be a great resource for Christian teachers of all sorts, as well as parents looking to establish a solid Christian education for their kids from home. What I love about this book, and the series alike, is how it brings these historical events into a story line that children can relate to, by taking them onto an adventure with children just like them. They get to see these events from a child's point of view. I'm so glad to add this book to my son's collection, even though he seems to still be a little young to capture the true events of the book, it's never too early to start. This books will be one we can return to over and over again as he grows, and hopefully will be followed by more books just like it. I would love for my son to grow up with a more biblical view of our nations history, setting a good solid foundation for him in years to come. -I received this book for free throughTyndale Blog Network in exchange for an honest review.

The Redcoats are Coming!

In this day and age, imagination should run wild. There should be pretend play and made-up stories. In actuality, screen time has taken up much of the children's time. Back when I was a child, pretend play was the only entertainment we had when one was bored. There wasn't Wii or Nintendo DS or any handheld game boys. There was only our mind and endless amounts of time. In this book, my imagination once again flourished. Even though this book is meant for youngsters, I had a great time imagining what the book was about and it painted a lively picture. Also, I grew up watching the Adventures of Odyssey and listened to it on the radio, another lost art in this time and age. You've probably had enough of my ranting and now you probably want a summary, so here it is: The first of a three-book story series about the American Revolution, The Redcoats Are Coming follows Patrick and Beth as they assist the revolutionaries by waking up the sleeping citizens of 1775 Concord instead of Paul Revere, before the Redcoats come. In this adventure, the cousins meet Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock with the help of the imagination station that Mr. Whitaker built that let them time travel back in history. Christian parents and teachers will appreciate the historical facts as well as the biblical worldview training their kids and students will absorb. Kids will not want to stop hearing or reading this book from chapter to chapter though.

The First in a Series of Three - You will Want to Read the Second - Christian View of History

The Imagination Station books are published through Focus on the Family. In these children’s books a moral or ethical situation is encountered or a historical event is discussed. With each story the situation or event is addressed through a fantasy experience via the “Imagination Station.” These adventures help young readers gain a more comprehensive understanding of historical topics and Christian principles. For example, in The Redcoats are Coming! the readers learn about the Revolutionary War. Uncle Whit, the keeper of the Imagination Station sends Beth and her cousin Patrick back in time to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. Beth and Patrick find themselves on an adventure; meeting founding fathers John Hancock and Samuel Adams, collecting musket balls, and being falsely accused of spying. The cousins and the reader learn a great deal about the historical events transpiring in Concord, Massachusetts in 1775. The book is recommended for ages 7 and up and is listed as a grade level of 2.5. There are elements of the book that are suspenseful and may upset children that experience fear from tense or uncertain situations. The topics of war and death are introduced, but not discussed in detail. The book is an excellent resource for introducing historical concepts and ensuring that children are aware of the strong influence Christian leaders had in our country long before the introduction of separation of church and state. The details of the story are not all historically accurate, but the plot and characters lend themselves to helping children start asking the right questions about American history.

great historical tie-in to faith

I'd never read anything about Adventures in Odyssey or listened to the program before reading "The Redcoats are Coming!" by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders. I plan to now. It seems like a really neat concept to teach children history and how that history ties in with our Christian faith. In this book, cousins Patrick and Beth go back to the turmoil leading up to the Revolutionary War. They must complete this mission: get a letter to Paul Revere. I learned about the codes used by Patriots to gain trust and musket balls. The cousins met all sorts of famous patriots: John Hancock and Samuel Adams. But do they get the letter to Revere??? I guess you'll have to read to find out. I will probably try out some of the Adventures in Odyssey programs by borrowing them from our local library before buying them, but when my kids get more into chapter books, I plan on getting some of these Imagination Station books. They are easy to read with historical concepts that they will learn in school but more in depth so they can tie them to our faith (for example, how our Founding Fathers voted on a day of prayer, meaning prayer was that important in the early stages of this country).

Highly recommended for 6-9-year-olds!

My family was recently introduced to the Imagination Station series, and we're big fans now! My daughters are 5 and 7, and since this series is recommended for ages 6 - 9 we're right in the target demographic. We're fans of the Magic Treehouse series, and this series is much like that one, with two children traveling through time to complete quests and learn about history. This series presents everything through the lens of a Christian worldview, and we appreciate that. This isn't a book adults are going to sit down and read without a 6-9-year-old involved, rather, the sentence structure is just right for kids to read alone. In my family I alternate reading pages with my 7-year-old. This book is the first in a 3-book series about the American Revolution, and it stands alone fine; you won't have to read the other books in the series to follow the plot. Also, book 1, Voyage with the Vikings, is free for Kindle right now, so you may want to begin with that book so you're familiar with the characters and the concept of the Imagination Station. Highly recommended for 6-9-year-olds!

The Redcoats are here...

Oh how wonderful it would be if there was a real imagination station that I could jump into and travel to places known and unknown. Until then, audio drama and books will have to be my imagination station. This book, geared at ages 7 and up, takes us on an Imagination station journey with Patrick and Beth as they experience the events leading to the Revolutionary War firsthand with the likes of Paul Revere, John Hancock, and fictional characters such as Sybil. Their mission? To deliver a letter for Mr. Whitaker, and do they accomplish their mission? You'll just have to read this book. I found this book engaging and well written for the targeted age group, and my nine year old has his eyes on the story. It's a good story to engage my children with American history from a Christian World view. Although I do find myself needing to refresh my history, as I'm a little rusty. Overall, I would recommend this book. What's more, I am looking forward to the next installment to discover the continuing story.... I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

I love Adventures in Odyssey!

"The Redcoats are Coming!" is about 2 kids that Whit sends on an adventure to the 1700s through the imagination station. They are to learn about history and deliver a letter that Mr. Whittaker has to Paul Revere. There are bumps along the way to get their mission done and Patrick and Beth are excited about what they are getting to experience! It is a history lesson on a whole different level! Let's just say that I LOVE Adventures in Odyssey! I grew up listening to it on Saturday mornings on the radio and I have the cassette tapes! I still love to listen to Chris as she takes us on another Adventure in Odyssey! When I seen this book, it looked good but I didn't know it was Adventures in Odyssey until it came to my house! That being said, the kid came out in me and I couldn't wait to read this book! I wasn't let down! Although it is just a little under my reading level (well about 15 reading levels), but I loved it anyhow. The characters were well developed and there was lots of action. I love the way the history was incorporated into the book so kids can read something educational and fun at the same time! I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! I received this book courtesy of the Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest review!

Time Travel Historical Adventure!

"The best in the series so far!" was what my 11 year old daughter had to say about #14- The Redcoats are Coming! Written by Marianne Hering and Nancy J. Sanders, it's the newest release in the Adventures in Odyssey series. Time travel, action, history and a focus on God is what you'll find tucked inside the pages of these children's books put out by Focus on the Family. The Redcoats are Coming! shadows cousins Patrick and Beth as they venture back in time to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. They aren't quite sure who they can trust as they endeavor to assist the Patriots in their quest for independence. Secret codes, spies, and danger are all part of the exciting journey. Along the way, they meet Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock as well as some dangerous characters. My daughter was surprised to discover that this book is a cliffhanger! She can't wait until the second book in the 3 book series, Captured on the High Seas, is released so she can see what happens next. Recommended for ages 7+, although my daughter just turned 11 and loved every page. :)

Okay story for my second grade son

I was recently sent The Redcoats are Coming by Marianne Hering and Nancy Sanders. It is book #13 in the Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station series. Seeing as how the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level for this children's chapter book is 2.5 and I happen to have a second grade son, I decided to have him read it to me and base my review off of that. The basic concept is Patrick and Beth, two cousins from modern times, go back in time to 1775 in Concord, Massachusetts. They get to learn much about the time of the American Revolution through carrying out their quest...getting an important letter to Paul Revere. First of all, as far as reading level goes, my son reads on grade level, if not a little higher, and he struggled more than I expected with reading it. It wasn't so hard that it was out of reach, but he did need help with many of the words. As far as holding his interest, I had to force him to get started, but by the end of the first chapter, he was eager to keep going. There were times that he did seem a little bored, but overall, the book held his attention. From my perspective as a parent, it was a simple story with just enough historical fact to feel like my son was getting a history lesson as well as reading practice. The one thing that bothered me was a lot of the religion seemed forced. There was a whole thing about a Bible that was used in Revolutionary times that seemed clunky and the character of Reverend Clark was a little over the top. It is a very Christian skewed perception of the events leading up to the Revolution and feeds into the largely misleading notion that the founding fathers, and the heart of the American Revolution, were strongly Christian driven. While that was a component, it was not the main driving force. I'm okay with that skewing, but some may not be as comfortable. Just be advised ahead of time. Overall, I recommend this book for grades 2-4 and for both boys and girls. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Tyndale house in return for my honest review.

Great way to "study" history

Welcome to the review of Imagination Station book #13: The Redcoats are Coming by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders. Once again I wasn’t disappointed. The Imagination Station books follow 2 cousins Patrick and Beth who travel back in time in Mr. Whittaker’s Imagination Station–yes, the same one from Odyssey if you are familiar with the Adventures in Odyssey stories. These chapter books are written for early readers; they’re perfect for kids who are transitioning from picture books to chapter books. It’s recommended for ages 7 and up, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level 2.5. There are 15 chapters and 132 pages. The Redcoats are Coming has Patrick and Beth traveling to Concord, Massachusetts in 1775. Their mission is to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. While there they meet other famous men from history such as John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The cousins learn about how the patriots are trying to protect themselves by collecting and hiding musket balls. But it’s hard to tell whose side everyone is on. There are secret codes that the Patriots use, but even then it’s hard to know whom to trust. The story is fast-paced and easy to read. There is tension when the letter gets lost (stolen?) and then Paul Revere isn’t able to finish his famous ride. Will Patrick and Beth help out so that the Patriots will know that the Redcoats are coming? One great thing about the Imagination Station books is that they help kids explore history. Usually each book is stand alone, but you will find that The Redcoats are Coming is to “be continued!” The next book is "Captured on the High Seas." (Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in order to write this honest review.)

More for younger kids...

A curriculum for Christian schools and homeschool families will be available for download at $3.99. This book is a great resource for kids to use to learn about history in a fun and exciting way. The only thing i dislike is the way it is "dumb" down for younger kids so kids passed age 7 aren't really going to like reading them at all. But all in all a good resource for that age group (7 and under). I says it is suppose to be for ages 7 and up but i feel like that is untrue. I would recommend this to homeschool families. I recieved this book for review through Tyndale House Publishers.

History Comes Alive!

Marianne Hering and Nancy Sanders continue their series that lets the reader experience significant events in biblical, world, and American history through the adventures of Beth and Patrick. The young cousins use the Imagination Station invented by Mr. Whitaker (from Focus on the Family’s Adventures in Odyssey series) to travel back in time. In The Redcoats Are Coming, Beth and Patrick embark on a patriotic adventure in 1775 Concord, Massachusetts – just before Paul Revere’s famous ride. Their mission is to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. They meet John Hancock and Samuel Adams, as well as a teenage girl named Sybil (possibly Sybil Luddington?). When the letter is misplaced, they try to get it back, only to be accused of being spies. Will they be able to convince Paul Revere they only want to help the patriots? Focus on the Family and Tyndale co-publish this historical fiction series for children to explore the way faith has played a role in history. The series includes biblical, world, and American history. Parents will appreciate the historical facts and biblical worldview expressed in these stories. Recommended for public and school libraries, as well as home schooling students. Carol R. Gehringer Worthy2read.wordpress.com

Brings History to LIfe!

I love the Imagination Station books! In these adventurous books, cousins Patrick and Beth travel through time meeting a lot of great people from history. Their adventures usually encounter some mystery to solve and are often trying to get out of a sticky situation. The latest adventure takes the cousins back to 1775 to meet Paul Revere. This is the first of a three book set about the American Revolution. The author has again done a great job to get kids interested in American history. I love that the story goes back in time and brings history to life! The story line is great and will capture the attention of your kids. Patrick and Beth seem to end up right in the middle of things and that is no exception with this story. I love the mystery of the missing letter. A good mystery is always great! These books are just great reading for kids. You can rest assured that they will not only teach them about history, but will include a good moral lesson as well. If you're looking for a great series to start with your child who is age 7 and up, consider picking up this series. Look for the next book in this 3 part series called Captured on the High Seas. ***I received this book free from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own.

A Wonderful Kids Historical Fiction book

Summary "The Imagination Station, The Redcoats Are Coming!" by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders is book #13 in the Adventures in Odyssey, Imagination Station series. Just so you know I have not read the previous 12 books but that did not matter I was still able to get into this book. The main characters are Patrick and Beth cousins who Whit sends back to 1775. My thoughts This is a wonderful historical fiction book for children. I have to admit I am not a big Adventures in Odyssey fan but this book blew away my expectations. It starts with Whit talking to the two cousins Patrick and Beth about their upcoming trip to Boston. He reveals that he has a letter for Paul Revere not just any letter but one that the cousins need to deliver to Paul Revere himself. The cousins end up working with the patriots and helping Paul Revere on his famous run. The twins come into the typical trouble involving helping the patriots that you probable can figure will happen but it still is a fun read. At the end it leaves the book open for the next book in the series which I do want to read myself. I can't wait for my youngest to read this when we do the American Revolution in a couple weeks. I received this book from Tyndale House Publishers for free for my honest review.

Story with a message

For kids, reading history as facts can be dull, but add a story that they can get immersed in, and they are more willing to read it. The Redcoats Are Coming, by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders, does just that. Patrick and Beth are cousins, and are preparing to go on vacation to Boston. After telling Whit, he lets them experience some of the Revolutionary War history of the city using the Imagination Station. They get to see first hand some of what happened just as the war begins, and they get to help the Patriots. The Redcoats Are Coming stays true to what kids learned in school about the time period, but adds a fictional story line to help kids stick with reading it. It also goes further by including obeying God's will into the plot, which is often left out when the stories are told. The book is easy for younger kids to read; most would be able to read it on their own. It can be used to teach other things besides the start of the Revolutionary War. Beth and Patrick have to work together and with others. Their reactions to the situations they find themselves in, like being accused of spying, can be used to teach kids a better way to handle conflict. I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for reading it and giving an honest review.

Another Great Adventure in the Imagination Station

Cousins Patrick and Beth are excited to be going on vacation to Boston with their grandmother to learn all about the history there, so excited in fact that they run over to tell their friend, Mr. Whitacre. After hearing their news, Mr. Whitacre tells them has has something they’d probably like to see, a Bible from the Revolutionary War. As they flip through the pages, something falls out. They discover it’s a letter to Paul Revere – a letter that was never delivered! When they start to ask Mr. Whitacre questions about the letter and why it was never delivered, he decides to send them back in time via the Imagination Station to accomplish the task themselves. Patrick and Beth find themselves in Concord, Massachusetts in 1775 where they encounter history in a way they’d never expected. They know they have a mission, but they find that accomplishing it isn’t going to be easy. The letter goes missing at one point and they’re accused of being spies. This mission just might be the hardest thing they ever do. This is book number 13 in the Imagination Station series, each of the 13 books takes the characters, and readers, on an awesome adventure through a different time in history. I really enjoy reading these books with my kids, they’re entertaining and fun while also being educational. It’s always fun to imagine yourself right there with the characters at some pivotal moment in history. Imagination Station books are easy to read, adventurous and teach kids more about God while they learn about history, too. I especially liked reading The Redcoats Are Coming because it talks about how our nation was formed and what its ideals are based on. I look forward to incorporating more of these books into our history lessons at home. Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for this review. All thoughts are my own.

Children will love this!

This is the first book in a three book series about the American Revolution. It was an exciting and frightening time in history, and the authors treat readers to a view from two young people. Come along with Patrick and Beth to Concord, MA, and meet some of the people who stood on the front lines of the landing of the British soldiers. Patrick and Beth were two unsuspecting children who find an envelope addressed to Paul Revere in a very old Bible. Through the Imagination Station, they are transported back in time to the Revolutionary War where they meet many famous people from history (like Paul Revere and John Hancock). They meet a girl named Sybil and learn first hand what it means to help in the war effort. This book enables children aged six to nine to see the war through the eyes of other children. I really enjoyed this book and found myself thinking about the children I will buy copies for. There are fifteen chapters (like: A Mysterious Letter, Dangerous Spies, Alone in the Dark, and Willing to Die) that will capture the attention of young readers encouraging them to read on. The Secret Word Puzzle at the end was also a treat. I recommend this book to parents and grandparents. I received my review copy from Tyndale House in exchange for an honest review.

Great start!

My son’s thoughts: I think this is the worst book ever. KILL IT WITH FIRE! Just kidding. I liked this book because of it’s action, adventure, and comedy (Patrick fell into a pile of dung, Eww.) Not to mention, that it’s also a historical book that can teach kids a lot about the Revolutionary War. I rate this book 8 out of 10 because of the surprise ending (which surprised me). My thoughts: The Imagination Station book series is an awesome way to let your kids have fun reading while learning a little something too. Each book has just the right amount of danger and adventure to keep kids interested, and along the way they get a free history lesson in the mix. The Revolutionary War Period is an important time in our country’s history and I am glad that this three-book arc is available to get kids interested in where our country got its roots. I am also excited about the curriculum that will be available to accompany this mini-series and look forward to reviewing it with my son as well. Tyndale sent me the above book for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the book. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Tyndale.

History Made Fun

I enjoy reading history especially accounts of the events that shaped this great nation. My family enjoys listening to the audio series "Adventures in Odyssey"(AIO) and frequently replenish our CD library with new volumes. One of the more recent additions to the AIO family is a series of books for children 7 and up based on the Imagination Station (one of the inventions from the audio series). In it moments in history are experienced firsthand by those who take an adventure in the Imagination Station. "The Redcoats Are Coming!" is the thirteenth installment of this book series. The authors do a surprisingly good job of engaging the reader and keeping the pace tripping along. The account of the events leading up to Paul Revere's famous ride maintains historical accuracy without bogging the story down with minute details. Of course their is much creative license taken in order to make the story appealing and fun for kids, but I never felt like it jeopardized the integrity of the story. I certainly wouldn't use the book to teach my children history; however it makes for a fun reinforcement of the story. I enjoyed the book and will make this, and others in the series, a part of the family library. I received this book for free for review purposes.

Take a trip back to the Revolutionary War!

The Redcoats Are Coming The Imagination Station #13 By Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders The Redcoats Are Coming is the first in a three book arc and Beth and Patrick are about to go on an adventure that will take them to the start of America's Revolutionary War. Not only will they meet some of the men who names are closely linked to the Revolution they take part in spreading the word that "The Redcoats are coming!" This is a book that should appeal to homeschooling families as this can be a launching point into a study of the Revolutionary period. The excitement and adventure will appeal to kids. Readers of The Magic Tree House, Time Warp Trio, and the A - Z Mystery books will want to pick this up as it will have an appeal to them while providing an educational experience at the same time. Take a trip back in time with the Imagination Station and join the Revolution, but be careful or you may get stuck in the past... until Captured on the High Seas! This one story arc you won't want to miss. And be sure to check out the Secret Word Puzzle at the end of the book for even more Redcoat fun! Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as part of their Blogger Program, no expectations were placed upon this review.

Great for kids learning about the Revolutionary War!

The book is based on the Adventures in Odyssey radio program where the children in Odyssey get to take trips in Whit's Imagination Station to experience history for themselves. In this book, Beth and Patrick ride back to the time of the Revolutionary War to deliver a special letter to Paul Revere. They find themselves in the middle of the Patriot movement--learning secret codes to find out if a person is a Patriot or spy, hiding ammunition in barns, and escaping from spies! Written for ages 7 and up, the reading level is about second-third grade. With my boys being 7 & 9, I figured this would be perfect for them! The story is interesting and written at a level that kids can understand. Much like the fictional Imagination Station, it allows kids to experience history as it happens and meet their historical heroes. I would definitely purchase more of the Imagination Station series for my kids! Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.

Fun interesting way for kids to learn about history.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher Tyndale House in exchange for my honest opinion of the book. I was excited to get my hands on the book. It's a great fun way for kids to learn about history and specifically the American Revolution. I remember as a child I learn best when I read historical fiction books. I have found my daughter is similar. She is 8 and this was an easy read for him. I found she absorbed the important historical characters named and their importance more easily when she reads books like these. I was happy as a parent with this books, but more importantly my daughter loved it and learned a great deal from it. I would recommend this book. The only is issue is I would like to have seen more spirituality integrated within the books, since that's how it is advertised, but other than that it's a winner.

Riding to Paul Revere

The Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station books continue on with a new 3 book set about the American Revolution. The set begins with The Redcoats are Coming by Marianne Hering and Nancy I. Sanders. This is such a great way for kids to begin to learn about early American history and to start familiarizing themselves with the famous names from that time. In this book the cousins are off on a mission to deliver a letter to Paul Revere. They meet some famous people along the way like Samuel Adams and John Hancock. They also make a new friend named Sybil. Of course it isn't an easy adventure. The letter disappears and they are accused of being spies! How will Patrick and Beth come out of this unscathed? These are such fun books. The black and white illustrations are always great too. The grade level is 2.5, the books are recommended for age 7 and up, and according to the Tyndale website a homeschool curriculum to go along with the book will be available as a download for $3.99. I received a free copy of this book as a member of the Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest review.

Revolutionary!!

The Redcoats Are Coming is another book in the Adventures in Odyssey: Imagination Station series. Beth and Patrick tell Mr. Whitaker about how their grandma is taking them on a trip to see Boston to see the places where historical events occurred in our country's revolution. Mr Whitaker sends them on an exciting adventure to see Paul Revere's ride at the start of the revolutionary war. This was a really fun book. It was full of historical facts and figures and helped make the people real and the story come alive. It was a great view of part of our country's revolution. It showcased the fear and secrecy involved in taking up arms for a revolution. It's a great fun read for kids and will help them learn a little about our country's history.

history made fun

If your family has been enjoying the books in this series as much as ours has, then you will be excited to jump into this new book which takes place during the early American Revolution. Patrick and Beth learn firsthand what it is like to live during dangerous times and help with the cause of the Patriots. The back of the book identifies this book as being suitable for ages 7 and up. Our children are not that old yet, but our son enjoys listening to the book being read aloud a few chapters at a time. The words are simple and the storyline is full of action to keep your children interested (a lot like the Adventures in Odyssey radio program). Since we are reading this book aloud, we especially enjoy the illustrations that are sprinkled throughout the book. They are very nicely done. 5 out of 5 stars I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Love This Series

Another great story from the writers of the Imagination Station books. This is book 13 in the series and you will absolutely love it. Beth and Patrick are once again thrown into history, only this time its during the Revolutionary War. Here they get to meet some pretty awesome people from our past and help assist the famous ride of Paul Revere. This story is full of history and adventure. However, this one leaves you hanging. Instead of being whisked back to Whit’s End they end up somewhere else. To find out where you will have to read this book and then patiently await book 14. As a mom I absolutely love the Imagination Station series. They are fun stories for your 8-12 year olds and they are clean. You never have to worry about content with this series. From the same people who puts out the Adventures in Odyssey series the Imagination station books have Biblical morals and family values. These books are definitely books to invest in.

Another great book from The Imagination Station Series

The Redcoats are coming! is a book filled with excitement. Patrick and Beth go on another adventure in the imagination station and this time they go to 1775 Massachusetts. They meet several important people from history and they even meet Paul Revere. This book is full of action and suspense. As the first book in a series of three, this book leaves you hanging and ready to read the next one. Our family loves to read these books out load at night time. Everyone loves them from the oldest to the youngest. We can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book. I received a complementary copy of this book from Tyndale blog network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Well done!

I was curious to see how the Revolutionary War books were handled. I was particularly curious if the claim would be made that God was on the Americans side - which, since there were God-fearing men on both sides would seem a little conceited. I was pleased that in this book at least that is not the case (haven't yet read the other two in this arc). It is (rightly) noted that many clergy were involved in the war & that the idea of separation of church and state as understood today was a foreign concept back then. Good introduction to the Revolutionary War for young elementary age children - looking forward to the next two in this story-arc. The simple language, illustrations, & easy-to-read larger font makes this series perfect for young readers.

Cute Historical book for Kids

The Redcoats are Coming is an Adventures in Odyssey Imagination Station Book by Marianne Hering and Nancy Sanders. This is a cute, short book that tells young children about The American Revolution. This book focuses on Patrick and Beth in 1775 as they try to let the community know that The Redcoats are coming. When focusing on this point in history, Patrick and Beth meet Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams. This book offers children a great way to learn about history in an exciting way. It’s much better to read a story filled with adventure than to read something in a history book that may not seem the most exciting for elementary school aged children.

Great Read for the Kids

The Redcoats Are Coming!: 13 (AIO Imagination Station Books) is a fun book from the Imagination Station series. Patrick and Beth are about to go on vacation and want to learn a little more about their destination. They enter the Imagination Station and it takes them to a time of Paul Revere, John Hancock, and the Revolutionary War. My 9 year old and I enjoyed reading this book together along with his History unit about the American Revolution. I am definitely a huge fan of the Imagination Station books and this one held to my expectations. I highly recommend this book for kids and also for a fun family read. I love the fact that I do not have to worry when my kids pick up this book because they will not only learn something but there is no questionable material in the story.

relive your childhood

When I first learned about the Imagination Station books I was immediately intrigued! You see, I grew up listening to Adventures in Odyssey as a kid almost every night! In fact it was the highlight of most of my evenings! This book helps me relive those moments with the same characters and locations I fell in love with as a child. The second best part of this book is the history! I've always loved history and I really enjoyed how this book was written in a way that kids could learn history and enjoy a good story at the same time. I don't have kids yet, but I plan to someday and once they are old enough I plan to make sure we read these books together in the evenings! This book was provided to me by the publisher, Tyndale, in exchange for my honest review.

Loved It!

Here we go on another adventure with Beth and Patrick on the Imagination Station! I was actually really excited about this book because I love stories about the Revolutionary War era. This book takes the kids right into the thick of conflict and they haul musket balls secretly for the Patriot cause. While learning the secret code between Patriots, Patrick also has a letter for Paul Revere that happens to disappear. Some men start poking around and it comes down to who is the spy for the Loyalists. This book is so fun while being action packed. This is a great book to get young adults into history, it doesn't have to be boring! I highly recommend!

In the Redcoats are Coming, cousins Patrick and Beth ...

In the Redcoats are Coming, cousins Patrick and Beth find themselves in 1775 Concord. There they meet historical figures such as Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams and they lend their aid to the Revolutionaries by delivering secret messages, smuggling ammunition, and alerting the sleeping citizens of the Redcoats approach. As in the other books of this series, I found valuable Christian truths were taught as well as accurate historical facts in a way that would not only captivate readers, but also drive those lessons to heart.

Fun historical read

Similar to other books in this series, main characters Patrick and Beth are off on another adventure. This time they experience some of the historical events leading up to the Revolutionary War. With both historical figures and fictional characters, this is an exciting tale and a fun way for kids to learn about this time period. Although this is the 13th book in this series, the story stands alone and can be read and understood without reading the others. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for this review.

E

The Redcoats Are Coming! is the first book of three about the American Revolution. Out family was excited about this "series" because first of all it's Adventures in Odyssey and secondly we are studying about the American Revolution as a family for the month of June, to get ready for our July 4th celebration. This year we thought since our children were older it would nice if they knew "the why" of why we celebrate Independence Day each year. This is a great read! Filled with action, history and plenty imagination. A great asset to any child's summer reading! In my {humble opinion} one just miss with the Adventures in Odyssey books!

Great Series

These books are creatively written with fun adventures, and will encourage young readers to read more. They do include danger and thrills, and scary situations, as well as life lessons. Some scenes are written with creative license, by which I mean the authors have added or changed some of the ways the events played out. For example, Paul Revere’s ride was changed to add in the two kids and have them part of the mission. They are fiction, so that kind of thing is expected, but the stories can send readers to other resources to find out more about the history. This series encourages Christian values in a fun way.

The Redcoats are Coming!

This is another delightful story based on the Adventures in Odyssey: Whit's End. Patrick and Beth go to tell Whit that they are going on vacation to Boston where the Revolutionary War takes place. Whit takes them into the Imagination Station where they go back in time and can "relive" the actual Revolutionary War. I love the way they bring history alive in these stories. If you have a child that dreads history, this is the story for them to read. It makes them understand history more. I would recommend this book to all children and adults out there.

Another one Hit out of the Park!

The Imagination Station Group has done it again! They have written a great book that teaches historical facts in a way that kids will remember them for a long time. My 8 year old daughter read this book in just a few hours. She loved it, thought it was really interesting and liked the story that went with it. We have a few other of the Imagination Station Adventure books and love them all. They are well written and have a way of capturing kids and adults attention. As this is the first of the three book series, we will be looking for the next two books in this series about the American Revolution to add to our collection.

My absolute favorite!

This might be my all-time favorite in the Imagination Station series! This is my favorite time in history, and I loved seeing events through the eyes of Beth and Patrick in "The Redcoats are Coming!" Imagine meeting Paul Revere, and being there at the start of a huge battle in the Revolutionary War! Families truly need to invest in this amazing series. These books are ideal for homeschool families, read aloud time, and just plain good reading!

Never a dissappointment

Imagination Station books rarely let you down and this one was no exception. Filled with history in such a way that kids can not only relate to but hold onto, this book was a delight to read. Each of the books takes you through a different historical period and this one about the revolution was not only easy to read, but held our attention to the very end. The fact that it's the first book in a three story arc is almost a bonus! It means there's more to come!

Action packed fun for kids

This was a great story about the Revolutionary War. My girls aged 4-8 loved listening to it. They don't lose interest, and I can usually read the whole book in one sitting. This one ended a bit differently...it continues on in the next book. They wanted to keep reading and see what happened next! Great way to start talking about the Rev War.

"The redcoats are coming!"

This book was great! It gave some good information about the Revolutionary War, like secret passwords of the Patriots. The only bummer is that they say that Paul Revere called " The redcoats are coming!" Which should be " The regulars are out!" All in All I think this is a great edition to the series! Noah Stevens.

Fantastic book for elementary aged kids

When Patrick and Beth tell Whit that their grandmother is taking them to Boston for a summer vacation, he sends them first on an adventure in 1775 to learn more about the start of the American Revolution. There they learn more about John Hancock and Samuel Adams. They also learn more about life in Colonial America. Fantastic book for elementary aged kids!
