A bond of love unites a family throughout generations in this companion to the beloved and bestselling classic The Keeping Quilt.

As a young Russian Jewish girl in the early 1900s, Anna and her family lived in fear of the Czar’s soldiers. The family lived a hard life and had few possessions—their treasure was a beautiful china tea set. A wedding gift to Anna’s parents, the tea set came with a wish that “Anyone who drinks from this will have blessings from God. They will never know a day of hunger. Their lives will always have flavor. They will know love and joy and they will never be poor.”

When Anna’s family leaves Russia for America, they bring the tea set and its blessings. A source of heritage and security, the tea set helps Anna’s family make friends and find better lives in America. A cup from the tea set—The Blessing Cup—became an anchor of family history, and it remains a symbol of lasting love more than a century later.

This tender tribute to the importance of loving lineage is a prequel and companion to the perennial bestseller The Keeping Quilt and is told and illustrated with authenticity and tremendous heart.

The Blessing Cup, Patricia Polacco

I purchased this as a gift for my friend who provides monthly "tea parties" for eleven of her friends who gather for prayer, sharing books and tea. The was in awe and overjoyed with the book and is excited to share it at her next tea gathering. It is beautifully written with a story that provides the importance of little things in our life that may be passed on as precious memory treasures. Love it! I purchased a digital copy for myself.

Great story book

My family loves it, my family loves it, I can say no more.

Polacco Shines Again!

Patricia Polacco may not have won any of the "Nobel" prizes in the field of children's literature, but her books always matter and they touch the heart. She is on a one-person crusade to help children appreciate their heritage and to be loving, tolerant, and kind to everyone. She succeeds 100 percent.

It arrived on time. It is as described.

Very good condition.

A book that helps the reader understand the value of family.

This children's book is by a favorite author. It is about love of family, tradition, and kindness. The illustrations are amazing and endearing.

Love this author.

This book was a perfect gift for our new grand daughter's naming ceremony. The story is wonderful and the book is a life-long keepsake. Her parents can read it to her now and hopefully she will one day read this to her own little ones.

If you love Patricia...

It's Patricia Polacco, what's not to love? Great way to share heritage, talk about history and share a joyous tale.

Very nice book to demonstrate importance of family

I love this author and have gotten a lot of her books every one is a jewel of family love and devotion. Shares the importance of family and traditions.

A Beautiful Book

This is a beautifully illustrated and written book. I would recommend it as a picture book for mature children and adults too. I have a 5 year old granddaughter but I think she will appreciated it in a couple more years. It is a good story about life struggles, family, and traditions.

Wonderful

Patricia Polacco never fails to offer up a fascinating tale with illustrations as satisfying as the text. Here she tells a story from her Jewish heritage...a family tradition passed down for generations. I love her work!

Love Polacco books

There isn't a Patricia Polacco we don't love! Always a great book with lots of meaning, sometimes for both child and parent.

along with a Polish Pottery cup and THEY ALL LOVED IT.

Fabulous book!!!! Reminds me of our trip out of Austria and Germany to come to the US!! Gave family and friends this book for Christmas, along with a Polish Pottery cup and THEY ALL LOVED IT.

Wonderful story of love and family.

It's a Patricia Polacco book. Nothing more needs to be said. I always read Patricia's books to my 3rd graders when I was teaching. When I retired, I kept her books for my own library, and I still continue to order her new ones. My sister asked me why I still bought "children's" books and my answer is Because they aren't just for children. Her books are wonderful! (One of my 3rd graders favorite is JUST PLAIN FANCY. My favorites make too long a list.) Treat yourself as well as your children with Patricia Polacco.

Beautiful companion

Wonderful companion to the keeping quilt. So glad I have it. I cried when I first read it, and think it would be great t

Five Stars

Awesome story for children and adults.

Must Read

Compelling! Polacco reminds us that during life's challenges, preserving what matters most -love- helps us endure difficult moments. I highly recommend The Blessing Cup.

Five Stars

Great book for my collection!

Review

I gave this book to my granddaughter for Christmas. She started reading the book and gave it to her mother to finish reading to her as she was anxious to see what happened. The whole family listened and thoroughly enjoyed the book. They said it was a beautiful story.

Great book

Patricia Polacco is a wonderful writer and illustrator, and this book is just as wonderful as her others! I love them.

Everyone Loves it

Used this for our children's Sunday story time in worship. They loved it. One in the congregation plans to combine the book with a teacup for a bridal shower. This is a beautiful story with a beautiful message.

Five Stars

I love all of Patricia Polacco's books.

New favorite Patricia Polacco book!

If you liked "The Keeping Quilt" you MUST HAVE this one! Bought the pair for my granddaughter for Christmas. (Shhh, don't tell her)

Again, a great book for storytellers and children alike

Patricia Polacco is in her element writing about her ancestors, the pogroms, and how a tea set has blessed her family through the last century. A wonderful teaching tool for parents, educators, and storytellers

Five Stars

love the book and theme regardless of age.

Incredible History!

We enjoyed reading about the culture of the Jews in this story. I am a big fan of Polacco books.

Highly recommend this book

The Blessing Cup

Well written and well illustrated book that came in excellent condition. Gives a nice history of the cup that is so important in Jewish family traditions.

Great book. I love to read it my 3rd ...

Great book. I love to read it my 3rd grade class at Thanksgiving time.

Five Stars

I love this book. It brings me to tears when I read it aloud.

The book is a great one, but my disappointment was with the fact ...

This book was only readable on certain devices which is why I rated it lower than I would normally. The book is a great one, but my disappointment was with the fact that I couldn't use my Kindle or my computer app to read the book. No warning came before purchase that it was only readable on certain devices and platforms. So be warned if you think it will work everywhere, it WON'T! Patricia Polacco is a wonderful author and illustrator. This is a great story that helps children (and adults) think about persecution and the immigration to America in a real and accessible way.

Magical

A magical tale: great opportunity to teach children about family, traditions, compassion, sacrifice, and love, for one's family, as well as for others

Polacco shines!

Patricia Polacco writes about what she knows and has lived. Her young readers are captivated by her themes of family, struggles and blessings.

Great for seniors

Even though Patricia Polacco writes for children, we have found her books to be very applicable to seniors w/dementia. Her stories help us reminisce about family, values, social situations, historic events, holidays, etc. She also touches on emotional subjects to which our residents can easily relate. She is an incredible writer & the illustrations are equally compelling. Looking forward to the release of Fiona's Lace this summer.
