a fave fr my childhood is literally saving the day...

Our seven yr old has struggled tremendously w all things reading and writing. I cant even begin to quantify the hrs of sleep I've lost worrying, stressing, crying... trying to find something -ANYTHING!- to spark his interest and turn him onto reading. And then I remembered the Berenstain Bears. These funny little bear books are our miracle. I've LOVED to read my whole life. I have the fondest memories of my grandmother reading dozens of Berenstain Bears books to me as a little girl... and then of me re-reading them to her. Introducing our little lovey to the Berenstain Bears has been jst... wonderful. YES - They're too, too much for a six or seven yr old to read solo. They're def intended for co-reading / joint reading. For me - these are the perfect books for teaching grade school kiddos ab theme, plot, character developmt, etc... while slowly transitioning fr me reading to him and daddy [ha!] to him reading to us. Basically: Highly recommend. =)

Important lesson for children nowadays

I got this book for my toddler because there are so many kids watching and looking at too many screens for too long. Its sickening. I wanted him to understand why moderation is a good thing. He caught on pretty quick after a few months of reading this, he doesn't care when the tv is on or off. And it's really cute when he tries to say too much tv. He even brings the book out when he thinks I'm watching too much tv. Great message and it sticks with kids.

We all need the Berenstain Bears

I grew up on the Bears. I can also tell not a lot of today’s youth have ever opened one Bear book, and it shows. Great moral lessons and common sense throughout the series. However we need a updated book. Too much social media and too much news.

ANY Berenstain Bears book is good for kids

ANY Berenstain Bears book is good for kids, especially in this day and age. My son is 26 and loved all the books when he was little, me too. I just sent some to my Godchild with small kids. Please everyone, remember: NO putting your kids on your smart phones to watch a video to shut them up -- take the time to SIT with your kids and read a damn book with them! --gv

Too Much TV is Great!!!

The Berestain Bears are up to no good while encountering a rut of being caught up in the middle of too much television. This is a great book that teaches children there is more to life than just watching the old tube. Stan and Jan Berenstain do a marvelous job at telling the story of Mama Bear putting her foot down when her family becomes obsessed with television. There is so much more to life than television. The bear cubs take time to remember how fun it is to play out doors, read a book, or just talk with other family members. This is a must have book for any Berestain Bear lover. The book was purchased at a steal of a price, wound up in my mailbox just days after ordering, and is in wonderful condition.

Great book with good values

Great book to help explain to kids why TV is fun but we don’t watch too much of it. In our world our kids need to be taught that there is more to life than screens, and this book helps accomplish that.

Classic

WHO doesn't love the Berenstain Bears!? These are household favorites! And there seems to be one for almost every occasion. I get them for my kids as the situation calls for it. First day of school, Too much TV, Chores, New Baby, easing..... you name it. My 4 yr old is going to be getting a few of these for Christmas this year!! Cause Santa knows what's up!! ;)

Good Book, my daughter made me buy every one ...

Good Book, my daughter made me buy every one for her and she reads them to me before bed. The lessons in these books should be mandatory reading for adults when they turn 21, it would make the world a more friendly place.

Before Your Media Detox

I'm so glad that my daughter (age 3) likes this book because I'm about to start a television detox in my home! She calls it the "naughty bears" book hehe. Sends a great message, that there's other things to do than sit and watch tv. Hopefully this will help us get back to watching tv a lot less without too much whining.

Can't get any better than the Berenstain Bears!

This book has a terrific message, especially in this era of big screen tv's, ipads, laptops and all the other technology that is keeping our kids from playing outside, working on interpersonal relations and from being active! I love these characters and read the same books to my four-year old son that my parents read to me!

In our world of nothing but screens, its nice to have a book that frankly addresses the issue head on (at least with the television). As always the Bernstein Bears are relate able and always provide a good message. Love.

The Berenstain Bears and Too Much TV is a book that my three-year-old grandson did not want to read at first. When he read the part where the mother bear turned off all TV's for a week, he was mortified. How could anyone go for a week without watching TV? We read this as a prelim to reducing the amount of TV we watch. This was a nice lead-in. It worked nicely when he discovered that he could still watch some TV.

My 3 years old daughter would watch tv all day long, so I got this book to show her way is bad to watch too much it. The book helped a little, and know she will say herself that too much Tv is no good for her. I had recommended this book for a friend, and I will recommend to anyone who have this kind of problem.

Great book!

As a mom, I really loved this book. My 3 year old really got the message in the story, too. Helped us apply this to our lives. A great one to read over and over.

Love this collection

Love this collection. I had them as a kid and I am trying to collect them all (or most) for my children! Great Read!

Great reference for kiddos who watch too much TV!

Cute book, great price and a great reference when telling my daughter that she has watched too much tv or played on the iPad too much!

Good read with a lesson

I grew up reading many of the Berenstein Bear books and loved them. They are entertaining, easy reads that also teach a lesson. I think of these stories as classics, because the lessons they teach are so universal. Highly recommend.

Replace TV with tablets or smartphones

As dated as so-called "TV sets" may seem, this story is timeless in that it applies now to tablets and smartphones. Papa seems to be from the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do school and I'd wished he was more supportive of Mama's lesson through his own actions, but it sets that I myself can be just like Papa when it comes to TV (and, yes, tablets and smartphones.) Still, the point comes through loud (too loud?) and clear: more people to people and less people to pixels, please.

An excellent reminder!!

This book is a good reminder in a world of electronics. I laughed because I have said some of those same things!

They're Classic

With the times the way they are it's always good to have characters your kid likes to see agreeing with the things you're always telling them. It was good as I think all Berenstain Bears books are :D

an old classic

Wonderful reading. My 2nd grader read it to me and we both laughed and enjoyed it a lot. Excellent daily life teachings

So true

I got this for my three year old daughter who loves to watch tv so that she could see how she behaves. Great book that is so true with today's world.

Enjoyment and Learning

My kids (2 and 4) love all the Bears books and I appreciate that they have topics for learning.

Love it

Read it growing up loved it then and my kids love it

A FUN BOOK

I would recommend this book to my friend. I think a preschooler would like it too. I liked this book. It was funny.

Great for my 6 yr old

This is a great book to teach kids about not watching too much TV and enjoying each other's company… Highly recommend

My kiddoes loved this book--great message, too!

I read this to my 4 & 8-year olds. They were both engaged, and quickly got the lesson of the book.

Excellent children's morality story.

This book is a delightful little story told and illustrated in the quality typical of the Berenstains. It has a clear message without being preachy, and presents the need to balance different activities in our lives. I purchased to give me a starting point to talk to my six-year-old-son about watching too much television, and I will say it fulfilled this purpose admirably. I don't think it's quite as entertaining to children as some of the Berenstains' other works, however. Still, an enjoyable story.

Excellent Read!!

Excellent read for any kid.

It's great! Teaches kids (and grown-ups) not too watch too much TV, but a little is okay. FIVE STARS!!!!!!!!!

nice

I stopped watching tv after this very good book it teaches you a lot about life and stuff cool 1

Don't watch too much TV

Makes a good case against watching too much TV. Can be applied to spending too much time on mobile devices/video games. Shows importance of spending family time together

Good lesson

This book tells children that tehy need to get outside or play inside. Kids are spending a lot of time on tv. I wish it would say it in a more grown up way so a tween would read it.

the Berenstain Bears and to much TV

The kids like reading it. I would recommend it to everyone. I remember reading the Berenstain Bears when I was in school and I enjoyed it as well.

Bernstein bears

Lovely book for teaching children about life and the dangers hidden therein. Highly recommended and a very easy in general

Papa Bear portrayed as a "loser".

We own most of the Berenstain Bears books, and although this one has the right idea, poor old Papa Bear is lumped together with the cubs as a TV-watching loser with no outside interests. Mama seems to be the only one with a good head on her shoulders. The "everything-in-moderation" message comes through loud and clear though, so I gave it three stars. (I know...it's possible I'm taking the Bear-family dynamics too seriously, but I do think Mama and Papa should be portrayed as more of a team.)

Four Stars

My sister loved the book but didn't listen to the moral of the story.

Falling apart

I usually don't have any problems with used products, but this one was in terrible condition. The cover of the book is falling off. If I had known it was going to be so bad, I would have purchased a new one. I spent almost as much when you include shipping. Very disappointing.

The opening scripture is no longer present

Just wanted to give a heads up if you are purchasing this book as a scripture teaching lesson to your children. I was not aware until I read this book that the series by Stan and Jan Berenstain no longer have the scripture verses to open the story. It has been replaced with a “ good quote “. Also the stories are more geared towards good lessons rather than scriptural principles like the older ones were. This may not matter to some , but if you are purchasing it as a bible teaching supplement like we did, this was disappointing.

My 7yr old oves this book

My 7yr old son enjoys this book. Reads it multiple times.

It was ok book. My girl is 4 and she did not get much out of it. But she hardly watches TV

A week TV fast and the cubs suddenly don't like it anymore

Mama Bear is a total crank! A week TV fast and the cubs suddenly don't like it anymore? Get in the real world Stan Berenstain!

Two boys' review: Good message, but book needs updating

I've reviewed several of the Berenstain Bears books available at Amazon. This one is my least favorite because it is stuck in the mid-1980s. Mother Bear supposes the increased TV viewing is a result of the family switching from a black-and-white TV to a color set or, perhaps, because Papa Bear installed a new antenna atop the tree house. Seriously, in a world of satellite TV, digital video recorders and on-demand movies, do you think upgrading to color television is the issue? The rest of the book, which focuses on outdoor activities and the value of a family dinner time, is still valuable, but could use an update as well. Skip this book and pick up "The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Commercials" instead.

The dad is terrible

If I could give this less than 1 star, I would. The dad is a total dolt. A terrible example who neglects his wife and children.

The book is great for the kids

The book is great for the kids, but the quality of the book I received was poor with torn pages and much wear and tear.

Another father-basher.

I read the Berenstain Bears as a kid and liked them, so I bought a few for my son. However, many of them (including this one) have the same theme: Dad and the kids are doing something wrong. Mom (the only good one) tries to make them change. The kids do great, but Dad's a selfish idiot with no self-control who needs to be constantly corrected by the rest of the family. Why has the meme from sitcoms reached into children's books? It wouldn't be offensive if it wasn't repeated in multiple books with completely different stories (junk food, manners, etc.).

The Berenstain Bears from my childhood...

This is a Berenstain Bears story that does not deviate too much from the usual formula. Mama sees a problem with her family and wisely and gently devises a way to solve it that works forever. But oh what a magical formula it is! These books are wonderful for kids because they can relate to the cubs and to the colorful illustrations, and wonderful for parents because it covers issues that may be a problem in everyday life. This one, for instance, deals with Papa and the cubs watching too much TV. Mama doesn't spank or yell, she comes up with a way for them to reconnect as a family and involve Sister and Brother in other activities. I read these books as a child and still love them as an adult. I am now the mother of a three year-old boy and a special ed teacher. All of my kids love these books. They are clean and old-fashioned while still entertaining. A rather rare thing to find and worth every minute of your time!

Wonderful!

The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families. Too Much TV is one of those issues that is becoming more and more prevalent. What's wonderful about this book is that it shows that not only the kids have trouble with TV, but Papa does also. That's a great message: kids are not the only ones who have flaws, adults have them, too! Everyone can get stuck into bad habits sometimes, and in this modern age of more and more technology, it's only getting worse. But crafts and other hobbies that don't involve a tube are just as much fun, and it's a lifelong pursuit to remind ourselves of this. This book is a wonderful place to start.

Almost perfect book!

This has been one of my favorite books since I was a child. It is one of the first books I memorized by heart. This is a perfect book for families who are spending too much time watching TV. So what's the problem? why did I only rate this four stars? Now that I stop to reflect on the story a little bit I think Mama Bear could have dealt with the problem in a little bit of a different way. Mama Bear basically decided herself that there would be no T.V for a week. This could have been more of a FAMILY discussion. In other words, a little bit of better way to have solved the problem would have been for Mama Bear to call a family meeting and say "I have noticed a little bit of a problem. The family has been watching way too much watching T.V." If Mama Bear had approached the problem that way the whole family could have worked together and try to come up with a solution to the problem. I am not saying Mama bear was wrong: she obviously saw a problem and thought she was during the best for her family. I am just saying she could have approached the problem in a different way. Overall very good book!

Too Much TV

TV is fun, isn't it? A great source of entertainment and relaxation, especially at the end of a hard day. However, too much tv can lead to problems as well. The Berenstains demonstrate these issues in a fun and creative way. By the end of the book, the Bear family has so much fun doing their alternate activities that they don't miss watching tv. The Berenstains always have a lesson in their books, and this was no different.

Arguably one of the best ones ever written!

I'm in my mid twenties and a longtime fan of The Berenstain Bears. To me, Too Much TV taught me a lesson that watching WAY too much TV isn't good for you and the story helped me kick my habit of watching TV a lot. Now a days, I rarely watch TV since most of what's on TV is not really entertaining or amusing.

Situation a bit outdated but the lesson applies even more today. Creatively use this story.

TV -- and electronics of all kinds, even on the wrist now! So this book may be a bit outdated -- but the principle still applies. How do you get all members of your family doing a variety of activities, indoors and out? How do you get them talking over dinner to each other and reading books and playing games? Turn off the TV for a week. And today we'll have to add the computer games! But Papa Bear, like so many men, feel that the TV time-out doesn't apply to him! Uh-oh. Papa is a creature of habit -- but the cubs, that's a different story. Unfortunately, as in so many of TV's portrayals of families today, the man gets the brunt of the laughs. Oh well -- that's how it is. You can add to the value of this book by having family members give their ideas for what else they can do rather than just TV and computer games. And Mama Bear might admit, too, that she's hooked on Downton Abbey!

Nice books for teaching about life's lessons

Always great to teach your kids a lesson about life, especially in book format where it is much easier to understand for them and is an example they can relate to.

Five Stars

These books are so wonderful to convey life lessons to my son in a way he would understand.

Five Stars

Kids and adults LOVE these books

My daughter loves it!

My daughter loves the Bernstein bears, and she also loves her TV. I think the story is a good example that TV is okay in moderation, but there are so many more interesting ways to entertain ourselves. The story gives a good lesson, and we have even done some of the activities the bears used to pass the time! I recommend this for anyone trying to unglue a young child from the TV.

They should probably make a Too Much Internet book too, lol

I think there's a very good reason that this book series has spanned decades and maintained popularity. It gives children the chance to think on their own and make their own choices for behaviors that carry over into their adult lives. Many of these issues will be ones that will persist through their lives, just on different levels of course. I know I still have times when I watch a lot of television and start to wonder if I'm becoming a couch potato. Books like these at least make me *think* about it now as an adult.

No TV?

In THE BERENSTAIN BEARS AND TOO MUCH TV, Mama Bear decides that the Bear family is spending way too much time watching television. So, the whole family, including Papa Bear, goes one whole week without watching television. Though upset by the idea at first, Brother and Sister Bear soon realize that there are a whole bunch of things they enjoy doing more than watching television. The story helps illustrate how we miss out on some of the better things in life when we focus too much on one thing.

Another winner

For those who love the Berenstain Bears - this is another winner. Warning: the formatting on an Android phone with the Kindle app is a bit of a challenge as the font size is tiny with no ability to zoom in.

Big help!

this book teaches important everyday values for children that are easy to understand, and fun to read at the same time!

We can’t wait to look at the stars tonight! Super-motivated by this book! My grandkids loved it! Can’t wait to read it again.

Daughter loves this book

Daughter loves this book. By far her favorite Berenstein bears. Most nights can’t go to sleep without reading it. We also implemented this in our house for a whole week and her at three years old understood exactly what we were doing.

Five Stars

👍🏼

Classic!

Just read this to my 4-year old son for the first time. I remember pretty much every word from being read this in my childhood. This is such a wonderful classic story that holds up still to this day. My son liked it and now wants to see the stars come out tonight. ❤️

Great lesson like all the books in this series.

I remember these books from my childhood and their lessons are still just as relevant today. My six year old daughter loves the pictures, and they give her reading confidence because she can read and recognize most words.

They love it for bedtime story time

Purchased this book as a present for my niece and nephew. They love it for bedtime story time.

Great lesson!

My six year old son loves this book!! He's not ready to try the whole week without a TV thing. But it's something about this book he really likes?

Too Much TV

The Berenstain Bear's have television issues, like lots of kids. They love too watch it, and their poppa, daddy, enjoys it too! The family members sometimes, watch it too much, so Momma bear devises a plan......But, will it work? This may get kids thinking of wats to avoid too much TV.

This was a great example for my children

Lately my kids have been on the tv all day, mostly because I feel bad for them because we have spring break. They learned their lesson though when they went outside and discovered that it was just as fun as tv maybe better

Four stars.

My son liked reading this book. He really liked reading it. A lot. He really enjoyed it. A lot. Seriously.

Love this book

I had this book as a kid and I am so excited to see it on the kindle in such an easy formate. I also have the kindle app and the pictures are in color on my phone! That was a great surprise during a long doctors visit for my son.

Oh brother, oh sister

Berenstein bears are fun reads, though a little dated. I loved them as a kid and my kids enjoy them well enough. In this, brother and sister bear are watching a little too much tv and get into trouble.

a very real problem handled well

The Berenstain Bears always are up to something. When the mother decides there is far too much tv-watching in her family, she decides to do something about it.

Great lesson

Great lesson for kids and parents, fun book. Love all the Berenstein series, we grew up on it. Now my kids get it too

Good

The book was a really good book but I would like it a bit thicker with a little more detail inside and I liked that if u actually tried it out it can work and I'd say if like the um book had more of the detail as I said and stuff then I would have given it a five star but cuz it didn't it deserves a four

Priority Lessons

Hope (age 8) said "this is a really good book for 5 year olds becaues it teaches you that sometimes you can watch TV but you also have to do other important things like homework and stuff."

Can Brother and Sister Survive a Week without TV?

When the Cubs start spending too much time in front of the television and not enough time playing outside (or with each other), Mama has a plan: No TV for a week! The cubs learn a better balance.

oops THEY DID IT AGAIN

these books are a no brainer! LOVE THEM

My kids loved these books

My kids have enjoyed every one of the Berenstain books and I like them too because they all teach a lesson in a non-preachy way. Unfortunately. the other lesson they all teach is that Papa is at best just another child, and at worst a buffoon. Sort of like the foolish fathers on the sitcoms.

T.V. WHO ?

We actually did without T.V. for a week. This was the best experiment we have done in a long time. Papa still watches a lot. Brother and sister still want to. Mama has the remote.!

Terrible book

Papa bear is extremely obviously non compliant, and while at the end the cubs want to do other things he still continues to watch TV. The last sentence says that he decides to then do something else - it just portrays him as being worse than the kids. The argument for not watching TV doesn't fly too much either - the kids go from watching it all the time to not wanting to watch it at all - would have been better if they just watched it less or something. I just did not like this book at all.

cool story book

It was funny when papa bear went downstairs at late night to watch tv. It is not good to sit around all day and watch tv

tv is great,!

I liked it because I love TV. A bunch of words can be on TV. I love my TV shows.

My kids love Berenstein Bears Books and this one was a good one about forming new habits with TV watching. Love the message in these stories!

holding books for ransom is wrong

Do not like being FORCED to write a review before being allowed to access the book I BOUGHT. Amazon needs to reverse this decision before they get sued. Some people are not allowed to post reviews or commentaries by their employers. If I buy it, you have no right to hold it hostage; that constitutes virtual theft.

I like this book

It's goodest as I would want! I think that you should read this book, too. I want to read it for a lot of days.

😫😷 PUSH!!!!!!!!!!! She's going to have a baby!! Waaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Four Stars

My kids like it.

Papa Bearenstain Treated as a Child

As with many books in the Bearenstain series of books, published by Zondervan the Christian book publisher, the father is surprisingly relegated to status as one of the children. He becomes the castrato section of the characters of the story, as when he shirks doing his chores assigned by Mama Bear in the Chore book. This TV book is much needed, however it can help create problems with proper respect for parents with the dominant portrayal of Mama Bear who constantly has to put up with Papa Bear's bad habits while she is remediating the children. Transactional analysis applied to the Berenstain series would assign the parent (mama) to child (Papa)relationship. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0394865707/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_img

I love this book

My parents read this book to me when I was a kid. I always enjoyed it. I bought a copy for myself now as a reminder of the important lessons contained herein--even more applicable in the age of social media.

A really adorable book with a lesson and. Colorful pictures. My grandson loves all of them!

thank you for the great book

I like how papa stopped watching tv I liked that sister was knitting the rug Overall a great reader but

Love it

This book is awesome. Got my daughter down to 1 cartoon a week and no complain (she is 4yrs). Great conversation starter on why we should not watch tv every day.

Ampliamente recomendable

Me encantó. La impresión es muy buena. Quizá el texto es más avanzado, pero con los dibujos, el niño puede entender e ir siguiendo la historia.
