Bad Idea, Scared Daughter

I read this story to my 5 year old and regret every minute of it. The plot is confusing, having this green eyed monster doesn't fit will with the target audience. As silly as it might sound, my daughter is now literally scared of being by herself now even in our own house.

Creepy

I usually like the Berenstain Bears books for their morals, but the green-eyed monster in the book is creepy. Since the target audience are small children (who struggle with figurative language) the monster and dream sequence could be confusing at best and frightening at worst. Pass!

Awesome short and to the point

Great length for bedtime story good visuals that hit the point and come back in the moment you want to teach a lesson

Great lesson!

Our family loves the Berenstain Bear books and the lessons they teach in a way both kids and adults can learn from. Loved this story!

Good Book, my daughter made me buy every one ...

Good Book, my daughter made me buy every one for her and she reads them to me before bed. The lessons in these books should be mandatory reading for adults when they turn 21, it would make the world a more friendly place.

Great books for life lessons

Got for my grandchildren. They love to hear the stories and these books have good life lessons as well.

great

My grandaughter was having a problem with jealousy, this book helped her with her green eyed monster.

Classic Berenstain

Cute book

Fantastic

My kiddo loves this! Great story and morals.

Very Good

My two boys (ages 7 and 5) are as competitive as any others and when one has something the other wants, it can be a real challenge to deal with it. I think this book has helped them (especially the 5-year-old) understand that the feelings are normal, and that other people (or bears in this case) feel jealousy/envy too. They both really like this book-- I read it to my 5-year-old four times on the day we got it, and he would have liked it to be more.

Good story

Good story about wanting what you can't have and how to deal with it

Great story

Another great story for children.

Disappointed in this Story Plot

I got this book to address the increasing jealousy issue my 5 year old cousin has of her 2 year old sister. She liked the book but it did not really address the issue. Brother gets a new bike which upsets Sister but instead of having a solution for handling the jealousy she ends of getting his old bike. So while she didn't get a new bike she still got a new to her bike which did not help her understand what to do when you are jealous of someone else and you don't get anything in return. So if you are looking for an educational book or a book with a good lesson then this isn't it. If you are looking for a Berenstain Bear book to read then it is fine for that.

An all time favorite

I recently starting buying The Berenstain Bears to have around the house - kids love them. But this book, in particular, they want to hear again, and again, and AGAIN. They have an absolute fascination with the Sister-monster which I don't quite get, but it's definitely a worthwhile investment. Love the 4 for 3 promotion!

Great book

One of my favorite books about jealousy! My 3 year old loves it.

Love the Berenstain Bears!

I bought this book for my three year old granddaughter and she loves it! I've never been disappointed with any of the Berenstain Bears books. I highly recommend them.

My kids love this book

A classic! My kids love this book!!

Berenstain Bears and the Green-Eyed Monster

Very cut way to introduce a name to something a child is feeling. A topic that needs to be addressed when it is happening in your family. Children are not happy when experiencing that Monster and understanding a better way to be.

Great book with a great plot!!

I have always loved these books and as soon as I noticed them on television my toddler has taken the same liking to them. This book talks about envy/jealousy and the importance of being happy for others.

Excellent book in that it makes it very easy to ...

Excellent book in that it makes it very easy to explain jealousy to small children in a way they will understand.

Great book about Envy and Jealousy

I love all Berenstain Bears books, but I do have some that are my favorites. This is one of them because explains so well what envy and jealousy are. It is entertaining and educational with a language that it is easy to understand.

We liked it!

My grandchildren collect these. We liked it!

cute book for about 3 year old...

This book is great for kids who are starting to understand different concepts. The idea of jealousy is explained in this book and it's done pretty well. I have a ton of these books and most all of the messages are great (well, the one where they are mad at one another is horrible and should never have gone to print). Anyway, this book works...get the paperback and safe yourself a few dollars.

Pastor's Illustration

Used this for a great sermon Illustration

Another good one from the Bearenstein Bears

The Bear Family Tackles Jealousy

"When another bear gets something brand new, the Green-eyed Monster makes *you* want one, too." -- From the book It's Brother Bear's birthday, and he was getting some very fine presents at his party--and aluminum bat from Gramps, a fielder's glove from Cousin Fred and a sports video from Lizzy Bruin. Sister joined in the festivities--until she saw what Mama and Papa Bear bought Brother as a present: a beautiful racing bike! Sister was aghast--and angry. Mama noticed the "I-gotta-have-it" look in Sister's eyes--and reminded Sister of the presents *she* got on *her* last birthday. But Sister would have none of it! Mama tells sister about the Green-eyed Monster known as jealousy and envy. Sister is still upset, not wanting Brother's junior bike hand-me-down. Written by beloved authors Stan & Jan Berenstain, this book shows what can happen when jealousy takes over--and how what you THINK you want may not always be best for you! (Even Papa gets a bit of the "Monster" when Mr. Bruin gets a new car!) I like the fact that the Berenstain Bear books show adults making the same mistakes as children (poor Papa Bear...it's usually him!). If you'd like an engaging book for teaching kids how to deal with jealousy, this would be a fine book that will hold their interest while encouraging positive life skills.

Envy.

It's Brother Bear's birthday and he's gotten all sorts of cool presents. Sister Bear is unaffected by Brother's good fortune. Until Mama and Papa bring out their gift: a brand new green bicycle. Sister turns green in a fit of envy. Mama talks to her about being careful around the "green-eyed monster", but Sister doesn't seem to listen. This story isn't as interesting as some of the Berenstain Bears books. I think part of the reason is that the plot takes place in a 24-hour period. However, the book has a great message and kids love looking at the ugly green bike that causes all the problems.
