The Art of Splatoon

I've been waiting for this for so long and it's finally here! This book has 327 pages worth of colorful art work! The amount of content that was put into the book is huge. If you are an avid splatoon fan, I definitely recommend this book! It is worth every penny! Heck I would still buy even if I had to pay full price ($40) for it!

First off this is a really big book. Its bigger than I thought and heavy as well. All the images are crisp and the printing is beautiful in full color. There are images from the game, concept art, and tons of information about development and the game itself. There is even a section talking about all of the splatfests. This is a great collectors peice if you loved splatoon. The game has a great bit of charm that not every game these days has. This book just adds to that. I can't wait for a splatoon 2 edition!!

This book is fantastic for any Splatoon fan. It explores the surprisingly vast world of Inkopolis, from the Inklings' design to the signage and graffiti. You get to see concepts and prototypes of the major characters— the Squid Sisters, Cap'n Cuttlefish, DJ Octavio— as well as models and other design sketches, all annotated with notes here and there. It also contains concept sketches and some comic strips— there's a plethora of artwork, as you'd expect from a 330-page book. Nevertheless, I do have two complaints. I wish the book showed some of the development from before we had squids (i.e. the rabbits that predated them— yes, the characters were almost rabbits!), and the weapon specs contained in this book are outdated. (This is pointed out in the book preview, and these are the specs that appeared in the Japanese version. However, the game stopped receiving balance updates well before this localization was announced, and I do feel that this could have been updated to reflect the latest specs.)

Fourth, if you really REALLY like Splatoon and have been playing it from the first game in the Wii U, then you'll totally fall in love with the high res images of the Splatfests illustrations.

I'm an artist, and seeing the development of the game is just absolutely fascinating to me, and helps me gain inspiration artistically. I love peeking into behind the scenes of my favorite games and shows, and if you do too, I highly recommend this book! The book came in fantastic condition; no scratches, scuffs, dents, or any damages. It came in a cellophane plastic cover to protect it. The weight of the book is heavy and thick, and it's a hard cover, and it's definitely a quality book!

MASSIVE book full of everything you can imagine from the world of Splatoon. I love that Nintendo is finally doing art books besides Zelda hope we get some Metroid history and Mario at some point this is highly recommended.

Large, hardback, excellent artbook. Better than I expected! It's so big that it doesn't fit on most of my shelves, heh.

I bought this book a while ago but I'm just now able to write reviews. This art book shows you the world of Splatoon as imagined by the developers; describing what everything is and how it works. There's so many tiny details that didn't make the cut for the game and instead were either demoted to background objects/items or simply removed. The descriptions for the removed or demoted objects/items really make Splatoon feel even more lively as a world.

This book is quite large and thick. 300+ pages of Inkopolis derived art from the minds at Nintendo by way of Dark Horse Comcs. I am squid loving it and the art is fantastic. Go Splatoon!

This is a colorful, packed to the brim, high quality art book. It has loads of illustrations with descriptions, plenty of concept art, and an encyclopedia of of weapons and gear.. The page layout designs are diverse and really pop off the page. I can only hope Splatoon 2 gets a great art book like this one.

I ordered this book months ago and I am so excited to finally get it! It got to me two or three days after it shipped so it arrived fairly quickly. The book showed up in perfect condition. It is a beautiful hardcover book with nice firm paper. It is very colorful and a nice addition to my Splatoon collection. The art is beautiful and I could not ask for more. I highly recommend it for any Splatoon fan.

I was not expecting a hard cover book, so I was presently surprised when it came in. The at it all on nice glossy paper and looks very crisp. Mine had been slightly bumped in shopping causing almost unnoticeable bumps on the corners of the cover.

I bought this book for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas, she is a huge Splatoon fan and an artist. I thought she would love this book because it shows how the characters were created, it goes over storyboard concepts, and even gives a background story to the game. This book is PACKED with loads of colorful pages (well over 300 pages) and makes a great art reference book for up and coming animators like my daughter. The book's pages are made of high quality thick pages and it has a hard back cover to protect it from wear and tear. Even if you are not an artist this book is still a great read for Splatoon Fans!

This book is so awesome. One of the first things I love about Splatoon is the art style. As an illustration is full of references. Only downside...not that many of Spyke. Need more Spyke.

It's a great art book. Unfortunately, it came with a few dents on the front cover. It's unnaceptable that a book that was wrapped in cellophane has damage on the inside. I'm using this book as reference, not as a collector, but I'm still a little bothered by this.

It would've been 5 stars if the "sequel" (I hate to even give it the privilege of being considered a continuation of any sort) wasn't included. That game is a disgrace to the original and knocks off 2 of my stars because I despise it so much that even a few pages at the back makes me feel uneasy about my purchase, even though the rest of it is awesome. I honestly didn't think there would be anything canon about inkling mating habits and seeing how they "attract the opposite sex" really surprised me in a good way.

The book is large ( over 300 pages ) and filled with great artwork. If you're a fan of the series, you'll definitely want to own this book. There was no protection on the sides of the box, so the book could slide around freely. Mine arrived with a smashed corner.

This book is massive! I got it for Christmas this year and I haven't quite had time to really look through it, but I have skimmed it and it really has everything you can think of when it comes to the world of Splatoon. For such a cheap price and the quality of both the book itself and the content is very well worth it if you're a hardcore Splatoon fan like me!

Beautifully presented and comprehensive. Packed with everything you could think of concerning the production process from promotional artwork, to character/clothing concepts, and even mechanical design works cross-sections. You'll get halfway through and go "wait, there's MORE?" The original Japanese publisher went above and beyond to compile everything presented here, and Dark Horse did a great job with their English version. At Amazon's price it's an absolute steal. Highly recommended!

Great book filled with a lot of illustrations and concept art! Can’t wait to get the Splatoon 2 art book! I gave 5 stars as the book itself is great. However, pick this up in person if you can. Shipment by Amazon arrived late with damages to the bottom right and top left corner. The package itself did not offer much protection besides one strip of air bags on top.

Beautifully bound, and over 300 full color pages of concept and production art. I've always loved Splatoon, and seeing the work shared in this volume shows just how much a labor of love the project is. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Brilliant art book with a very premium feel to it. It's not just a collection of concept art pieces, it also provides some further detail about the characters, weapons and lore of the Splatoon universe. It's a thick, heavy book and you can tell a lot of effort has really been put into it. If you're a fan of Splatoon, it's a must-buy.

This art book is hands down amazing. If you are like me and adore the art style, or wanting to emulate the art style for your own drawings, then this book is essential. Plus, this book got me into the anime, Ika Musume! The crossover art is so good!

Siempre me ha gustado conseguir los libros de arte de algunos de mis juegos favoritos y Splatoon no es la excepción. El libro es bastante grande y de pasta dura, contiene más de 300 páginas con arte tanto en 2D como lo son bocetos, sketches y litografías como también arte en 3D, renders de las armas que hay en el juego, ropa y atuendos, mapas del juego, etcétera. Además, al final el libro tiene también una pequeña parte con arte de Splatoon 2. Principalmente imágenes promocionales y algunos renders de los personajes pero nada fuera del otro mundo. Definitivamente recomendado como artículo de colección para cualquier fan de Splatoon.

O Livro explora o visual do jogo detalhadamente não só com imagem mas com testemunhos da equipe de arte da Nintendo e mostra-se muito dos detalhes que muitas vezes passam despercebidos pelos jogadores que estão focados no passo agitado de um jogo e não param para apreciar as miudezas. Seriously, if you ever wonder about Splatoons world and how it was built you really should get this, the art is superb very colorful, there are dozens and dozens of pages to pass through. You got sketch from everything and everyone and colorfull art from all over Splatoon world. The hardcover is a really heavy and dang hard cover alright! There are also descriptions about the process they made during development and steps and things they jad to adapt to fit the game style. It doesn't include anything related to Splatoon 2, thought I would let you know.

Adquirí tanto el libro arte de Splatoon 1 como el 2, ambos llegaron a tiempo y en muy buen estado, el único detalle es que el 1 no era totalmente nuevo ya que no venía sellado, por suerte no estaba maltratado (más que la portada al ser encerada ya estaba un poco rayada), el segundo llegó sellado, fuera de eso, valen totalmente la pena ya que se disfruta ver todo el contenido que traen.

Um livro que se enquadra perfeitamente na categoria de 'artbooks', pois tras muito conteudo, concept arts, sketches, muito material nunca mostrado ao contrario de muitos artbooks por ai que só printam imagens e colocam nos livros, este artbook tras um conteúdo muito vasto, além de ter um ótimo acabamento e muito bem editado, compra obrigatória para quem ama o game e procura conhecer mais do mesmo e ter ai na sua casa, um ótimo livro para referências visuais.

This book is absolutely massive at over 300 pages of content! Every single page from the original Japanese release has been translated here, and they even added a few extra pages at the end of the book with promo art for Splatoon 2 - not found in the original Japanese release! Great paper quality and hard bound, a must for any art book. The wealth of content is staggering. If you are an artist or a fan of Splatoon, you can't go wrong.

L'ho ordinato per la mia ragazza e lo ha adorato. Consigliatissimo ai fan della serie, l'artbook è ricco di curiosità e aneddoti sul gioco e sul suo sviluppo. Che io sappia non c'è in italiano ma solo in inglese, ma anche per chi eventualmente non conoscesse l'inglese resta un artbook godibilissimo per via delle eccellenti illustrazioni.

Das Buch ist umfangreich und liebevoll gestaltet. Allerdings hätte ich mir mehr Konzeptzeichnungen und Kommentare zu den einzelnen Charakteren gewünscht. Dafür sind sehr viele 3D Promoartworks vorhanden und sogar kleine Comics! Ich kann das Buch für Fans nur empfehlen und hoffe auf ein Artbook zum zweiten Spiel.

I collect video game artbooks, and I'd like to say that this purchase was an excellent one. The book is quite large, frankly it is the 2nd largest artbook I own. The pages are smooth and glossy and the book came neatly and carefully packaged with really fast delivery. Overall I'm really pleased with this new addition.

Ein sehr schönes und vor allem großes Artbook. Jedoch hätte ich mir ein paar mehr Skizzen zu im Bereich Design und Entwicklung von Splatoon gewünscht und nicht die mittendrin aus dem fertigen Spiel herauskopierten Items, Outfits... welche über mehrere Seiten geht.
