The Art of Fire Emblem: Awakening

I purchased this book last year as a Christmas gift for my close friend who is a huge fan of Fire Emblem: Awakening. I was able to skim through it with her, much to my excitement! The book itself comes in at over 300 pages of in-game CGs, official art, concept, sketches and in-game dialogue. Many of these pages are in full-color and in my experience, each and every page is printed in high quality. The Art of Fire Emblem: Awakening is a gorgeous art book. Aspiring character designers will find inspiration through the amazing works of Yusuke Kozaki. Even those who don't have interest in Fire Emblem will have to appreciate the sheer effort and creativity demonstrated by the talented artists and developers of Fire Emblem: Awakening. This is overall one of the most in-depth video game art books I've ever seen, and I highly recommend it to anyone who may be on-the-fence about purchasing it. Not to mention, it also serves as a great and thoughtful gift to any Fire Emblem or Nintendo fans you may have in your life.

Content wise, the book is very good and contained a lot more than I expected. (In addition to concept art and official CG's, there are also cutscene storyboards, results of fan-polls, einherjer illustrations, epilogue flavor-text, and full support conversation logs.) I also appreciated the translated notes in the concept art, and the extra commentary boxes from the creative team. Unfortunately, there are some minor printing errors(?) in the book. Ink smears (see pictures of: Basilio's hand, the shadows in Flavia's portrait, the outside of Brady's silhouette, and the storyboard pages) and some white patchiness (see picture of Severa's hand, this also occurs a few other times but not as noticeably). These errors are confined to the marriage proposal CGs and the start of the cutscene storyboards and aren't a problem in any of the other sections, so it may be a one-off error. Additionally my book was damaged on the bottom when I received it (see pictures). I'm not sure if this happened during shipping from Amazon/USPS, or if the damage was already present before shipping, but other reviewers have encountered similar problems, so keep that in mind when ordering. Overall it's a good book, the printing errors and damage aren't enough to overshadow my enjoyment of its content. However, my excitement was definitely dampened upon seeing the physical damage to the book (honestly the ink problems didn't bother me too much since they weren't incredibly large or obscuring anything too important). If possible I would've given this a 3.5, but I'll go with 4 instead of a 3 because I'm not sure which party is at fault for the damage to the book.

This is easily one of the best art books I have ever purchased and an absolute steal at the price. Double check the stats: 320 pages at 9x12. Not only is it full of great pictures it has a complete collection of character quotes and support dialogue. If you love Fire Emblem I think this is a must buy.

This book is impeccable. It has a ton of information, amazing concept art and interesting data from fans of the series. I have never played a Fire Emblem game but I purchased it for the concept art which I am very happy with. The extra content is great as well.

According to other reviews, the damage and printing errors can be much worse, so please exercise caution when ordering! That said, as an Awakening fan, this art book is lovely! It includes all of the story and marriage CGs, character profiles and concept sketches, and lots of dialogue and tidbits from the game. I was also happily surprised to see storyboards for many of the animated cutscenes. I'd highly recommend this if you are someone who enjoys seeing what goes into the visuals of games, and especially if you're an Awakening fan.

More than just a simple artbook, this is a companion book. Slightly over 300 pages long, this book contains not only official/promo art as well as concept art, but also a glossary of various information in-universe as well as all the support conversations for all the characters. Strictly speaking about the art, this book gives a peek behing the creative process of creating characters, which is always fascinating. Yusuke Kozaki does a wonderful job of making his characters personalities shine through their designs. Definitely a worthwhile book for anyone who loved Awakening as much as I did. Spoilers, obviously.

Really good quality print and excellent binding. I don't even play Fire Emblem-- I'm just a sucker for its character designs. Just FYI this volume isn't strictly speaking fully art. The back half has all kinds of dialogue and stats filler stuff that I'm not really interested in as an art enthusiast.

Great for Fire Emblem fans or fans of Kozaki's works. Huge book, with all support convos details listed at the end for people who are too lazy to do it themselves. Mostly official art; would have liked it even more if it contained more concept art or some commentary, but for the price this is definitely worth your money! Beware of packaging by Amazon. I had to return it because the corners were smashed in due to poor packaging. If you are worried about the condition, it would be better to look somewhere else unless you don't care/want to take the risk.

This book is a godsend!!! I now own both the Japanese and English versions of this AMAZING artbook. We need more Japanese-to-English translated video game artbooks like this, paperback or hardcover. For any video game art enthusiasts or aspiring game artists out there, this is a book you should buy and own for your collection. SO...MUCH...CONTENT....and in English!!!! My main complaint, though, is that the top corners of the book were crushed when I picked up the package at my house; thus minus a star for my review. I would love to order another artbook as a spare, however Amazon really need to provide better packaging for books. Overall, though, it's still a great book. Now I play the waiting game for an announcement if a Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright & Conquest artbook is in the works.

This book is beautiful! The detail is amazing. There was a small manufacturing defect so the top of a page had a small tear, but this was a very small detail that's hardly noticeable. I love how in depth it was for each character. I originally bought it for a reference book to make cosplay, but the art was so pretty it was very hard to pick one design. The book was also a lot bigger than I was expecting, but beyond the art and concept art the book also includes all the support conversations, character ending notes, and even the art from the S support conversations with the avatar (everyone is so adorable in this section). Must buy for a Fire Emblem fan!

An absolutely beautiful masterpiece of an art book. I am a pen and ink artist, and carry this book as well as the Art of League of Legends around with me regularly for inspiration. It is also worth noting that this art book is much thicker than it may be advertised. It is the likeness of a textbook, and chuck full of content ranging from weapon concepts, early designs, and character portraits for every character in not only Awakening, but all of its DLC characters as well. Each character from the Awakening storyline gets their own dedicated few pages in the book. At the beginning of each character there is a large illustration of them, followed by several pages of design or expressions. Over all this is easily one of three of my favorite art books, and I own well over 50. If you were debating getting this, then stop right now and just buy it. If you are an avid fan of Fire Emblem or you simply enjoy a good art book, definitely make the investment.

It came in within 3ish days of regular shipping and it came in unscathed. The book contains 300+ pages of material. The pictures tagged break down what the book contains: •Concept art •ALL support conversations possible •And tons of illustrative art That's the breakdown of most of what it has, just so you all know where your money is going. It's well worth its price for anyone a fan of this game/series.

As a Fire Emblem fan, I can help but to love this book. A well bound hardback, this book is full or beautiful artwork, sketches and world-building pieces of the world of Awakening. My complaints are small but should be noted, mostly that the white cover, since it doesn't have a gloss finish, is very prone to getting dirty with fingerprints. I recommend using hand sanitizer before picking it up. It is good to note that most smudges come off with a dry mircofiber cloth. The book, while fascinating, doesn't get behind the scene of the art work as much as I like. I would have appreciated a little more commentary on the art. All in all, this a must have for any fan of Awakening that wants to enjoy Intellegence's homage to the series.

This is mostly art; official, promotional, drafts, or otherwise. While what's in here is good, some pages seemed kinda empty and could have benefited from more explanations of the processes that go into creating the art and designs for the game. (There is also a large section devoted entirely to in-game support conversations, which I wouldn't consider art, but it's cool that it's there.) Would recommend to people who reeeally like that official art, or dedicated fans of the series in general.

Book is exactly what I wanted, however edges were dinged when it arrived. But I was so happy to have to book I didn’t really mind.

This feels like an encyclopedia for the game. Has a lot of pages, lots of arts, conversations between npcs, etc. It's just not the art, it has more so this is a good treat for fans.

The art book is amazing! Shows the concept art and character designs for Fire Emblem Awakening. I’ve easily put in hundreds on hours on the game when it came out and this made me want to go back! Awesome for any collector!

I love fire emblem and I love art books. So, OF COURSE I was going to get this book! It has a lovely picture of Lucina on the cover and it's packed with stuff. Not only does it contain character designs and the pictures used in the promotions but it has the storyboards for the cut scenes, character dialogues, poll results from fans, and they even included all the support conversations in the back! My only problem is that they shipped it carelessly. The edges of the bottom of the cover are slightly damaged. (Better compared to the one I had to return due to there being a hole in the spine and it being dirty but still)

huge fan of FE13 series. this book is incredibly jampacked with character designs, dialogue, scenery, weaponry and more. perfect coffeetable read. the pages are full of high quality glossy illustrations, and the whole thing is a perfect gift, collector's item, or just personal souvenir from this great game.

This art book is so gorgeous. It's very thick, hard cover book, and provides a lot of illustrations of the Fire Emblem Awakening game. What's included is a lot of concept art, sketches and fully drawn illustrations of the characters as well as descriptions. I highly recommend picking up a copy if you're a Fire Emblem fan or a fan of Awakening. It's a very good value for the price.

The illustrations are great but what I liked most about this book is that all of the in-game dialog is included. There's lots to read here especially if you missed out on some of the relationships while playing the game. There is a ton to go through so you get your money's worth.

Excellent reference material for fan-artists and good look into the production of the game for both fans, artists, and video game enthusiasts. The translation of the notes near the sketches was an excellent touch, providing some insight behind the various concepts. The extra pages including audience demographics and the Support conversations was also a nice bonus.

Even with my reservations of Fates after playing Birthright, I fell in love with Fire Emblem with the US port of Blazing Sword version from Game Boy Advanced. I was excited when my 3DS was able to download Sacred Stones thru the Ambassador program. I kept borrowing Radiant Dawn for my Wii from my local library. Awakening put my favorite strategy rpg series on the map, and it afforded me a translated copy of the art book by Dark Horse. As an artist, I'm glad to have this source of beautiful art from one of the best in the franchise; loving the concept sketches!

I love the game Fire Emblem Awakening so I bought this book. Highly recommended for the fans, it contained all the support convo of the game, art development of the characters, weapons and all items in the game. The book is bigger than expected though which I like and it is hardcover which is a plus. I bought the game electronically so I do not have the case for this game which makes the book as a valuable remembrance of the game.

Darkhorse and Nintendo granted my dream that one day there would be a artbook of high quailty and contain concept art, sketches, the progress of making the game itself in english, and more! For the price and what for you get it's a steal for fans of the series! I also can't wait for the artbook for Fire Emblem If/Fates to be released since this book turned out so well and the other ones as well!

If you need a reference for drawing complicated FE Awakening Armor, here is your friend. My beautiful daughter Lucina is on the cover, and I hope she is having a nice day. Also this bad boy has all of the support conversations in it. Yeah. All of them.

The print quality of the art in this hardcover is awesome. The book and its binding is built solid and top quality. I found it over $10 cheaper than retail.

Love this art book I'm a huge fire emblem fan so this was a must for me. Mine came in good condition , has good weight to it and awesome art work to look. I'm hope in the future dark horse publishes the Tellius Series since Japan received them

As a fanatical Fire Emblem follower, I'm obviously going to hold some severe biases here. Regardless, for the sake of my passions, I shall refrain from tainting this review. "The Art of Fire Emblem: Awakening" is the definitive Fire Emblem insight, boasting all sorts of crafted artwork and all support conversations. Truly I say to you, this is the best (and likely only) Fire Emblem merchandise I can appreciate (I'm looking at you deformed Marth and Robin amiibos).

I love this art book , it came in a pretty big size and every page is filled with amazing drawings of characters,costumes and weapons it also includes character sketches of before and final choice.There is also a character description of each one and confession scenes,it also had a few comments on the toughs of staff.The art book also contains every possible dialogue available to each character plus a story board for each cut-scene and every character card available in the game.

Came in as good as new. (Slight dent in corner, but this will happen with all books) Pros: It has a very nice weight to it the art itself is fantastic. Very shiny paper material Con: 30% of the book is made up of dialogues (but this is a preference)

This is simply amazing! Like my headline says, this is one of the best art books ever! There is just so much fun and varied content in here: every character in the game, official illustrations, cut scene screen shots, concept art, character and support dialogues, community polls and answers, and more! Other art book makers need to take a page from this and strive to have this kind of quality.

The book is absolutely stunting and huge! I own the game and it has every - single - dialogue from each character. It shows detailed work, sketches and even the story boards and its in English! A must have for any Fire Emblem fan, newcomer or any type of artist. Seriously: 5 stars. Will be patiently awaiting the Fire Emblem: Fates book as well.

I really love this artbook. It was a gift from my gf, and I am in love with the content it has. If you enjoyed Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS, this artbook is a good complement for the game. Also, if you think you are a fan of Fire Emblem, this is a good collectible.

fire emblem shreds. the game deserves a book this good. for many days after receipt of this book all felt right in the world. its a nice format a little bit like my big dc comics omnibus things. looks real good on my shelf.

Was bought as a birthday present my son LOVES it

I am the kind of guy that likes to indulge myself in the-making-of kind of things. I am satisfied with this purchase, except the book arrived damaged on the corners, so I'll assume it was damaged where it came from and not during the shipping process (oh well, not everything can be perfect). Either way, great buy!

This 300 page book has 100 pages of black & white written dialog (on a different type of paper too) it has 200 glossy color pages of artwork. I love the art work. My book had some damage. Collectors beware.

Thick book, awesome illustrations

I've gotten a strong liking for books showcasing artwork, both conceptual and finished, for video games, movies, etc. I really enjoy seeing and reading how the producers of these works came up with ideas and envisioned the characters and settings. This book doesn't disappoint.

Great artbook if youre a fire emblem awakening fan. All support convos are in this and the book is hardcovered for that extra luxury feel.

This being my first time buying an Art of book it makes it extra special seeing as this very game was my interduction into the series the chance to see earlier models of the characters as well to see all the endings made this worth the price tag. As an artist however. Its so pretty. 5/5

Love the art and great book

There is actually a lot more to this book than just art concepts. The pictures are high quality and the pages are thick. Coming from Dark Horse, this exceeds my expectations for them.

Arrived fast and there were no problems!

The item is absolutely fantastic! I love the art! Its bigger than I expected, but that's not a bad thing. The book is rough around the edges due to the transit, but the contents are 100% undamaged so its all good.

First game art book I've ever bought, and completely love it! Has lots of pages with really nice drawings of every character, some early drafts, and the complete text of the game. Honestly the ONLY thing I can complain about is the small print the support conversations are in, which makes it hard to read for a long time at once.

I love this book. My favorite part is that it has all the support conversations. It also has what the characters say when in the shop and my base.

I enjoyed playing the original Fire Emblem: Awakening game on Nintendo 3DS and knew this book was a must have. After reading the book I can say it was well worth the money! Arrived on Christmas Eve, just in time! Book is wonderful and full of great art and even loads of character dialogue. I got it as a Christmas present for my fiance and he loves it.

The book is MASSIVE. It looks incredibly high quality, and I know my brother will be very excited to open it up on Christmas.

Fast shipping. Product arrived in excellent condition. The book itself is amazing. Artwork is gorgeous and it was fun reading all the side notes and seeing the creative process in action.

Bought this for my girlfriend who is a Fire Emblem fan and enjoys the art of Awakening. She loves it, but unfortunately the upper right hand corner of the cover came dented.

This is the best book you can get from Nintendo if you are interested in how they made characters, scenes, character to character conversations. I cannot stop looking at this book because I discover more every single time I read it. I even have used it for Dungeon and Dragon games as reference to conversations. This book does not cover DLC support conversations, but does have 102 pages of conversations. The official gallery has every single character, info about them, what happens to them in the future, etc. Everyone's favorite Awakening character is here. The fan poll section is interesting too. Now, when it was shipped, the book did come with a couple of dents on the cover, nothing too big though. If you do like seeing how they made games and your favorite character's art, facts, and quotes, than this book is for you

Beautiful artbook, worthy addition to any collection

Not a terribly useful book, like most video game art books. However, Fire Emblem Awakening is something quite special and I just couldn't resist.

It is absolutely worth the money. It's got good content and a lot of it too. The hardback also just adds to it.

One of the most comprehensive video game art books I own. I first saw this in the Japanese editions years ago and waited for the inevitable English edition. It is even a hardback!

For anyone who is a fan of fire emblem awakening, this book is for them. It beautiful pictures of the how the characters were drawn out to how they did the scenes for the game. Also it has things you want to know about the ddifferent soldiers and as well as character dialogue.

Gorgeous! Totally worth it for fans of the series.

This is an amazing product! It came in a lot sooner than expected, and it was a lot bigger and thicker than I thought to. It was a birthday present and he was real happy bout this, 20 out of 5!

Great item and was cheaper here then B&B. Personally I loved it and found it useful when choosing which characters to pair up. Also come with all the art ingame.

A really great item for the price. The size and amount of text and images are really interesting to see. Fire Emblem Awakening was my first FE game, so I'm a fan of looking at this book, and remembering the events in the game.

This book is pretty heavy since it comes with hard cover and is very thick. It starts off with character artworks, concept sketches for all characters and classes. It also includes poll results from Japan (favorite characters, appealing character quotes...), cutscene storyboards, all character profiles, sprites, and their endings. A large portion of the book features ALL the support conversations with very small font size. I especially like the gallery of all spotpass characters and confession cutscenes (I think Libra's is creepy though).

The book is a lot bigger than I expected filled with beautiful artwork. Defanitley worth it if your a fan of fire emblem or art books. 5 stars

Really nice boom with beautiful artwork that makes a great gift for fans of the series. Ask for stronger packaging though, I had to order a replacement because it was not packaged well and got damaged.

Fire emblem is one of my all time favorite game series, Awakening being one of my favorites. The book itself is HIGH quality, the pages are nice. Its all nice. If you are a fan of the game this is definitely a must have!!

Amazing art book and a must buy if you're a fan of the Fire Emblem series. The art is beautiful and it has all the support logs between the characters in Awakening. Taking off a star because my book had dented corners right out the box. Will provide pictures once I upload them to my PC. Very disappointed in the packaging for this book.

Great book Darkhorse always produces quality. I gave it 3 stars because there is a ton of dialog in the book basically all if it from the game with all the option paths and less art. I would of preferred all art. The art that is in here is awesome.

Lots of awesome art!! The only flaw is that there are over 100 hundred pages of just in-game text (pg 213-320). I found this absolutely pointless, specially dealing with an artbook. Not including this pages would've made the size much more compact and friendly

Both this book and my copy of Hyrule Historia came with pages that were stuck together. Like, never separated from the factory. Annoying! I thought you guys were a premium publisher?

The amount of artwork and content in this single book is unbelievable. When I bought this I did not expect there to be so much content. There are more than just drawings, their are also storyboards for the cutscenes in the game, many extra illustrations(not in the game), as well as ALL the support conversations from the game. If you have played Fire Emblem Awakening and really enjoyed the game, you will enjoy reading and looking through this as much as I did.

I bought it as a gift for my bestfriend's sister and she really liked it. The illustrations were huge and it's sad that this isn't a poster pack, cause it very well would've sold a lot if it were. The girl I bought it for was screaming and fangirling for an hour. Lol Overall it's a really nice collectible for a fan of the series. Definitely buy it if you're considering a fire emblem gift, it's worth it at it's pricepoint considering how artbooks out there cost around $50-$100

First time buying an art book and I have to say I'm impressed. The quality is amazing!(Dark Horse) And to top is of its Fire Emblem! I loved playing Roy in Smash Melee and ever since Awakening I've been a fan. I love everything about this book and my favorite section is the animation sequences. Well done. The game was beautiful and awesome in everyway, battles, story, voice acting. This is great for my collection.

I've been a huge fan of the Fire Emblem games for years and this art concept book is a must have if you're a huge fan of games.

Very high quality artbook. Not only does it include tons of concept art (book is much thicker than I expected) but it even includes every dialogue option for every character in the game and all of their conversations. A really great addition if you love Fire Emblem.

Really amazing quality hardback art book. Absolutely full of promo art and concept sketches, and includes transcriptions of almost all of the character dialogue in the game (about a third of the book). The quality of the book is incredible, it's way heavier than I imagined it would be, and even the cover has a wonderful tactile quality that makes you want to pick it up. Perfect for Fire Emblem Awakening fans.

This is a very good book. It mostly includes images and interesting commentary on them, plus the extra of all the support conversations. Seeing the process of designing the characters, their clothes or a particular image is wonderful and it is definitely a must have, coffee-table style, for any fans of the game.

A wonderful book. I bought this via the app store, but decided I’d love a physical copy too. However, I don’t know if it’s a common error, but in my copy I’ve got pages 193-200 twice.

I've started playing FE Awakening recently and I'm in love with the art and game, and as a games art student I had to purchase this. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and it's a suoer chonky book. Would highly recommend it if you study concept art.

This is absolutely brilliant. It was much bigger than I was expecting, excellent quality and I can't think of anything they could've included but didn't. I've been looking forward to buying this for a long time and it did not let me down one bit - well worth the wait!
