Great!

I love Soul Eater! No anime(or manga in this case) has ever gotten to me like this. The art is exquisite, and it really is a great read. There is cases of nudity, as there is in the first book, but none too inappropriate. I highly recommend this book.

A new student, a new teacher, a kishin, and Daddy to the rescue!

Shinigama-sama has given Maka, Soul, Black Star, and Tsubaki a remedial lesson – they must take the soul of one Dr. Stein. Watching from a distance, Death the Kid tells his father this is much too difficult a task for a remedial lesson. Dr. Stein is an unusual man, stitched-together and more than a little clumsy. Dr. Stein tells Maka and Soul that their soul wavelengths are unstable, because she is a serious, hardworking person and he is a rebellious and cynical soul. Looking at Black Star and Tsubaki, Stein observes that Black Star has one of the most self-centered souls he’s ever seen, and that Tsubaki is highly cooperative and very accepting of people. Meanwhile, Maka’s dad, Death Scythe, is having a good old time at the Cabaret Club Chupacabra’s. But his high spirits take a nosedive every time he thinks about his recent divorce, and the daughter who doesn’t love him. Dr. Stein asks Maka if she is Spirit-senpai’s daughter, which was her dad’s name before he became Death Scythe. Apparently Dr. Stein was once his partner. According to Death Scythe, Stein experimented on him in his sleep, for five whole years! Stein tells Maka how much he would enjoy dissecting her, thinking of all the things he would do to her! Death the Kid tell his father he is going to go help them and when his father argues that he is not a student at DWMA, Kid instructs his father to add him to the Student Register, takes his guns and goes even as the students battle Dr. Stein for their lives! Death the Kid has decided to go to school. But promptness is apparently not his forte, as he is already three hours late on his first day! Maka and Tsubaki are in class, where they belong, but Black Star is lying in wait for the shinigami’s son to arrive, because he can’t stand the idea of someone getting more attention than him, and Soul is just hanging out with him to skip class. Death Scythe has been replaced as their teacher by none other than Dr. Stein, much to their chagrin. Maka says that for the first time she’d rather see her dad! Death the Kid arrives, along with Patty and Liz, and Soul and Black Star are on it! Kid isn’t too concerned, until one of them spoils the symmetry of the school, then all bets are off! When the class becomes aware of the fight going on, Maka informs Stein that he is required to go out there, which he is less than willing to do, so he takes Maka and Tsubaki with him. Since Maka has learned to see souls, Stein gives her an extra assignment, to look at the wavelength between each meister and his weapon(s) and evaluate their resonance. In Florence, a witch overs over the Santa Mario Novella Basilica. Inside is a demon sword master, Crona, and his demon sword, Ragnarok. Meanwhile, Maka and Soul are on assignment, devouring souls, when Maka hears strange noises coming from the Basilica. She senses a meister inside, along with fifty or sixty human souls. As they draw nearer, suddenly she can’t sense the souls anymore. It’s probably not a good idea but she’s determined to find out what’s going on…. I like the character development that is taking place in this series. You never know when someone you think is bad will turn out to be good, after all. Relatively speaking. For example, there is Dr. Stein, who is certainly eccentric but also brilliant. I loved the scene where Death Scythe shows up at the school to see Maka but detours to the nurse’s office first for some TLC and runs right into his old meister, Stein, who is not hesitant to mess with him again. Death Scythe is easy to intimidate. He’s a lover, not a fighter. But later on, in the basilica, we see the fighter side of him, which is impressive. Soul and Black Star teaming up to go against Death the Kid is hilarious. It’s no surprise to discover that their souls do not resonate. The story of the encounter with the kishin in the Basilica is a good one, and the entire volume ends with an unexpected twist. I’m enjoying the series and looking forward to the next volume.

Better Artwork and Faster Story

After the first installment, of which story structure is unnecessarily complicated, Atsushi Ohkubo's manga series "Soul Eater" gets better in the follow-up volume with more battle action scenes and some new interesting characters. The four students of Death Weapon Meister Academy - Maka, Soul Eater, Black Star and Tsubaki - take a remedial class of the institute; that is, fighting Dr. Franken Stein, an eccentric scientist and formidable meister who is much stronger than they expected him to be. While Maka and Soul Eater are engaged in a fierce battle that looks too much for a "remedial class," Shinigami-sama, the headmaster of DWMA, watches over the intense battle with his son Death the Kid, who makes a certain grave decision. But don't take the comic too seriously. It's basically a comedy, with its tone lighter than that of "Bleach." In the second volume the story becomes faster, with frames that look less crowded than before, allowing for more space for characters (and the manga creator) to show their skills. Obviously the creator Ohkubo's strength lies in powerful battle scenes (though I think he is pretty good at drawing sexy girls). I almost forgot to say that unlike the first volume there is almost no fan service here. An improvement on the predecessor, Volume 2 of "Soul Easter" is an entertaining read. There is not much of s story here, but the artwork is enjoyable.

The stitch doctor

The first volume of "Soul Eater" was all about introducing the meisters and their weapons -- but "Soul Eater Volume 2" dives headfirst into the plot and never comes up. Atsushi Ohkubo's story gets a lot more violent and twisty with the advent of the deliciously nasty Franken Stein, and, but there's still a heavy dose of comic relief and kitschy artwork. The gang encounters Dr. Franken Stein, a dissection-happy mad scientist with stitches all over.... well, everything. However, his creepy habits are not the only terrifying thing about him -- he's also powerful enough to battle all four teenagers at the same time, and this realization throws Maka into a panic. Can she and Soul's souls resonate enough for them to defeat Stein? And if they don't, what will happen? And when both Soul and BlackStar skip class, they encounter the newest students: Death the Kid, Liz and Patty. BlackStar is determined to kill the guy who's gotten more attention than him, and Death the Kid is determined to kill the guy who ruined the building's perfect symmetry. The problem is, BlackStar and Soul might not be the perfect team they think they are. Finally, while Soul and Maka are on a mission they sense a meister and weapon inside a church. When they investigate, they encounter a bizarre, androgynous meister who carries a blood weapon -- a demonic blade of devastating power (and really loud screams). "Soul Eater" really didn't take long to take off -- the second volume is faster, bloodier and more polished than the introductory chapters, and it also introduces a bunch of brilliant new characters. The middle story is kind of fluffy (the whole thing is basically a big student brawl between Death the Kid, Soul and BlackStar), but the beginning and ending ones are really astounding. And there's a lot more action and gore here --Ohkubo packs it with a trio of solid fight scenes, including Death the Kid's acrobatic gunslinging prowess and Stein's mixture of soul-jarring combat and psychological warfare. But the best is the fight between Chrona and Maka -- not only is it bloody and genuinely frightening, but those giant freaky eyes add an extra dimension of horror to the story. Fortunately, all this is leavened by a dose of comic relief, usually from Stein's chair falling over. Ohkubo also introduces a trio of new characters, all of whom are pretty eerie -- there's the witch Medusa (those toes freak me out!), the crazy-eyed Crona, and finally Franken Stein himself. Stein pretty much steals the show in these chapters -- he's a mad scientist with a sadistic streak a mile wide, but he's also strangely endearing just because he's so COOL. And, well, his sense of humor (usually used to torment Maka's dad) is hilarious. "Soul Eater Volume 2" is a little more of everything -- more blood, more action, more horror and more humor. Here's hoping Ohkubo keeps on improving.

99 problems but a witch ain't one

"Soul Eater" is a comic with such a bizarre premise that I am still surprised it is as entertaining as it is. A bunch of young kids are training at the Death Weapon Meister Academy (which is located in Nevada, USA for some reason...), in pairs of "meister" and "demon weapon." The "demon weapon" kid transforms into a weapon that is wielded by the "meister," who hopes to collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch in order to transform their "demon weapons" into powerful weapons known as "Death Scythes" capable of being wielded by the Grim Reaper himself. The series began when creator Atsushi Okubo drew the one-shot story "Soul Eater" for in Monthly Shônen Gangan in 2003, which was popular enough to be followed up by two more short-stories in the same universe, "Black Star" and "Death the Kid." Response was good enough that Okubo was asked to create an ongoing series in 2004. The three short stories and the first chapter in the ongoing series were collected in

Great Series!

Love this series. I first watched it on netflix when it became available and loved it, so i wanted to see how the manga series was since I love to read. Turns out its just as good as the show, follows very closely to what happens in the show as well, some minor differences with names and language but still amazing, haven't stopped reading it yet, great book series to read if you are interested in something new to read.

Dissections, Demon Swords and Witches

This second volume of the Soul Eater manga sees the conclusion of the remedial assignments as Soul, Maka, Black Star and Tsubaki encounter the eccentric Dr Stein. Once this encounter is done with the main storyline of the manga starts to gain pace as Soul and Maka encounter the strange meister Crona and the demon sword Ragnarok. I really enjoyed this volume of Soul Eater as it introduced two of my favourite characters from the series, Dr Stein and the witch Medusa. Although Medusa doesn't do much in this volume she is a brilliant character and shows just what a true witch is capable of, Stein on the other hand is just brilliant, being both funny and powerful at the same time. The series really begins to get god in this volume with some nice action, some very funny moments and some revelations on why DWMA was formed.

Such a great series of books

A really unique narrative, with the most bizarre characters and ideas. It's a shame that it includes the typical boob humour that plagues a lot of manga though..

soul eater volume 2

Better than the last volume. Introduces franken stein in this book. Other than stein and tsubaki, i don't like most of the cast.

Really fun

Just a great read anime is amazing too 😁
