Illuminating Photos
I confess that I was rationally aware that I was well outside the target audience when I purchased this kindlebook Slim Aarons Women by Laura Hawk (author) Slim Aarons (photographer) via Amazon by the August 24, 2018 timeframe. Still, I am glad to have followed my intuition to obtain The kindlebook Slim Aarons Women which has the following images and details in this bright/vibrant kindlebook: a picture of two women who were a significant part of Slim Aarons life his wife Rita Dewart Aarons pictured in Monaco in 1956 and a 1960 Bedford New York picture of Mary Aarons, a picture of society decorator Lady Anne Orr Lewis, a picture of Austrian princess and socialite Manni Wittgenstein, a picture of Avon heiress baroness Terry Von Pantz, a picture of Roman photographer Elisabetta Catalano, a 1961 picture of Tania Mallet in the Bahamas an English model who played a role of Tilly Masterson in the James Bond film Goldfinger who is also listed to have a flourishing model career at 74 years of age at the time of the writings, pic of Christina Onassis daughter of the Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis Palm Beach 1968, a 1959 poolside photo of socialite Alice Tipping in Palm Beach, a 1961 picture of Inge Morath who is listed to be an Austrian born photographer who started her career in Paris in 1953, some of Morath’s notable work was of Marilyn Monroe whom she photographed on the set of the Misfits in 1960, Inge Morath’s daughter is Rebecca Miller a screenwriter and director, a picture of Lake Como Italy in 1983, a 1985 picture of Britta Mese in Portofino Italy a chance encounter with her on a stroll before dinner landed Slim Aarons a Town & Country Cover, One of Slim Aarons popular beloved photographs titled Kings of Hollywood which shows Clark Gable Van Heflin Gary Cooper and James Stewart at a New Year’s party at a place called the Romanoffs in Beverly Hills California in 1957, Slim Aarons Eva Garbor and Philip Shell at a formal event in the 1950s, a picture of Slim Aarons leaving a plane in 1955 and another picture of actress Joan Fontaine while in Rome filming her movie September Affair in 1949 and more.
A beautiful collection of society photography
Some years ago, I bought Once Upon a Time, a collection of the society photography of Slim Aarons. I loved that work and had to admire Aarons' working philosophy. After World War II service, he decided "I'm going to have fun photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places". Well, compared to some philosophies people have followed over the last few decades, that one isn't too bad. A few days ago I was reading the Daily Mail and it had a feature on this, a new collection. Amazon had it and an uncle and aunt had recently sent me a gift card, so everything came together quite well. This is another fine book of Aarons' photos. Laura Hawk, who worked as an assistant to Aarons, provides the commentary and gives us a good idea of what it was like to work for the man (he could be charming and brilliant but also demanding and difficult). The cover has one of my favorite Aarons photos; it was also in Once Upon a Time. This volume has additional outtakes and these show just how bad 1970's fashion could be. There are great pictures of royalty, celebrities and the wealthy as well as stories about who these people are and how some of the shots came together. If you like the work of Slim Aarons, you will not be disappointed.
A much needed escape to another time ...
I have several books on the photography of Slim Aarons, so this in an addition to my collection. While one might expect this to be an entirely VISUAL experience, indeed, I found the STORY as written by his long-time assistant, the author of this book, to be equally if not more engaging, giving insight into the man and the circumstances behind these photos, ENRICHING the experience and transporting one to a world long ago and far away … highly recommended.
Beautiful women and Aarons's connection to each subject
Wonderful. The Slim Aarons estate still seems to have fresh material -- along with some previously published -- to delight us. This is classic Aarons fare and his eye continues to delight after all of these years. Beautiful women in very enjoyable surroundings with, very helpfully, descriptions of who they are or were and what their relationship was with Aarons. Culturally interesting as well as a pleasure to look at.
Such a lovely book....
After recently watching a documentary on Slim Aarons, I couldn't order this book fast enough. It didn't disappoint - filled with lovely pictures of beautiful women in gorgeous settings. Especially in light of the state the world is currently in, it's a delight to have such a wonderful remembrance of days gone by, and of course a glimpse into the lives of these glamorous beings. Highly recommended.

Great photos and text
Great photos and text. Very nice continuation of the series of Slim Aarons' books of which I have all of them.
Beware the Kindle version due to disappointing size/resolution of the photographs.
I’m a big fan of the work of Slim Aarons and I purchased the Kindle version of this book hoping to see his photos rendered large on my iPad screen, but alas I was very disappointed . His photos are rendered in relatively small, almost thumbnail versions on the screen (see attached screenshot of a sample page) and even when you double tap a photo to view it by itself in the kindle picture viewer, the photos still don’t get much larger. You can pinch-outward to expand the size of the photos, but the resolution of the included pictures seems to be quite poor even allowing for the fact that SA took his pictures before the days of modern high-res digital photography, and the result is quite unsatisfactory. If this book contained good resolution scans of his photographs and rendered them large, I would have given it 5 stars. Given this book is really all about the photos, they should have done a much better job with how they are presented in the Kindle version.
Book after book each one gave us something wonderful but this one is by far the most delightful
The work of Slim Aarons is ubiquitous. Book after book each one gave us something wonderful but this one is by far the most delightful. Hawk's prose, insight and often humorous take--the result of having worked with Aarons for a number of years give us a sharp look at what we've not been seeing. It's a beautiful book, carefully researched and stunningly presented.
It is formatted for a small phone screen
I bought it and immediately returned it after seeing how the pictures look like miniatures on my iPad! The editors need to review this again as the photographs are really beautiful. They’re so small you can’t appreciate them.
Even my dad liked it
Very interesting book of photos and people. Good quality.
Beautiful book
Beautiful photographs and very evocative of that 50s/60s era. Very glad I bought it.
