Just curious as to who decided on the greatest rock albums of the 60's and 70's

Just curious as to who decided on the greatest rock albums of the 60's and 70's? The Sex Pistols, Blondie and Moby Grape were recognized but NOT the Beatles Sergeant Peppers (arguably the best R & R album of all time), The Stones Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers or Led Zeppelin's II and IV which contained Stairway to Heaven???? These authors must have been smoking a lot of pot when they wrote this.

Find your favorite music and music facts

Nicely organized into artists of the 60s, followed by the 70s, etc, Rock Trivia Madness makes it easy for readers to find their favorite bands or discover new favorites by name. Short paragraphs highlight popular recordings and provide interesting snippets of history – where did the name The Who come from, for example. With details about “jam band” through “folk rock” to “industrial rock,” plus everything beyond and in between, readers will learn the meanings of modern musical terms while enjoying memories of days gone by. And each section ends with “random fun facts”—did you know only one of the Beach Boys really surfed? The chapters on Great Albums offer plenty to help a new listener create a great collection. And Test Yourself questions and answers provide plenty of entertainment and fodder for quiz nights with friends. Rock Trivia Madness would be a cool gift to share with anyone who’s lived through the music of the 60s to 90s, or been forced to listen so often they learned to like it. Have fun and enjoy fun musical trivia. Disclosure: I got it on a deal.

‘Starting in the mid-50s, a new kind of music would emerge that took from blues, country, R& B, and other genres’

Co-authors Bill O’Neill and Steve Murray are both prolific writers – and they love to explore all manner of subjects from reiku to trivia. Each section is followed with a Random Fun Facts and a quiz of sorts. This is an in depth study that brings to light a lot of history and nostalgia and memorabilia, and even if Rock was not your thing, this recreation of four decades of mood and times and famous people peppered with humor and lots of trivia makes for a terrific ride to the past. Jump in and discover the fun. Grady Harp, April 17

Enjoyable

If you are rather young, or never really delved much into the music you listened to, you will probably learn quite a bit. However, if you are a real music geek, disc jockey, or just plain curious, and nosey about your favorite music, and bands...you probably already know most of what's here. None the less, it's a fun, enjoyable read, and a nice reminder of times, and music past.

A tea spoon about everything

It's a good book for beginners in rock music. Just general info about the most outstanding bands and singers. Some interesting facts, trivia. No special analysis in deep.

Never Knew

Nevermind stretched into different era such as the one introduced by rapper m&m and many others before them such as TRex in the 60s. Interesting overall view of rock.

Five Stars

Great book for rock n rollers

You get what you pay for...

Rather sparse detail on the artists and groups profiled. Not evident what criteria the authors used for those selected for this compilation. Writing style does little to pull the reader in or keep the readers interest. Almost seems like the authors put this book together over a weekend as a joke on those of us who bought it.

Good stuff in here

I truly enjoyed this kindle edition because of its variety in the Rock genre. Everything from the 60's to the 90's provides a little fun for everyone. Bill O'neill knows what he is talking about when he wrote this. His trivia books are outstanding and I can definitely recommend him

interesting I'm told

I added this to a gift bundle for a music lover. He enjoyed it. It arrived undamaged and on time so no issues.

Bought as a gift

This was a gift for a Christmas angel, which was a teenage boy. So glad I came across this- I think he'll love it!

I was hoping that this would be composed of more ...

I was hoping that this would be composed of more skillfully written anecdotes. Instead, it's just interesting facts reported in a disjointed fashion.

Music history

Interesting stories and facts about the recording artists particularly from the 60's and 70's. Thought there should have been more from those years.

Total waste of time

This is like a collection of Wikipedia entries. Stuff that every rock fan has known since the beginning of time. And the style of writing is for toddlers. A rock book for people who don't like rock music.

Fun !!!

Book received well!

Book in good condition Content looks good too! Thank you!

An excellent gift

This was a great gift for my husband-a terrific find on Amazon.

One person's perspective.

Not a very legitimate list of bands.

No amazing facts.

Very boring. Did not learn any amazing facts. More about some very obsolete groups, that I have never heard of.

Good trivia book

This book is a short nonfiction collection of trivia, random fun facts, and test-yourself quizzes about rock music from the 1960s through the 1990s. It was well organized, first by decade and second by band, which I liked about it because it was easy to find specific things that you're looking for. It covers a wide range of artists, mainly focusing on the well known but also delving into some of the world's one hit wonders and never-was-but-shoulda-beens. It also includes two chapters purely about hit rock albums that different bands have come out with over the years, laid out chronologically. I thought that the book was very interesting and informative. I liked the way the authors really seemed to have a passion for the subject, and their excitement about the music was contagious. It inspired me to listen to some bands I'd never thought of before. I gave it four stars rather than five, though, because it was rather crude in places when I felt it could have been avoidable, such as several curse words including about a half dozen occurrences of the F-word. Granted, these were usually used when quoting somebody else or when in a song title, but did they really need to include it?

Bill O’Neill Strikes Again

I think I’ve listen to a half dozen Bill O’Neill trivia books so far and I’ve enjoyed each and every one. “Rock Trivia” covers popular music from the 1960’s on into the 21st century. As always, Bill presents great information…some you know, some new. This format gives you some narrative on musicians by the decade, fun facts and then a quiz. It truly keeps you interested. The one negative about “Rock Trivia” was I found Scott Miller’s narrative to be WAY over the top. It’s was too much late night infomercial and not enough audiobook narration. I expected him to say “and if you act now” at any moment. That being said, however, this is great addition to the Bill O’Neill trivia library. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

After reading the sample, this was not for me. It might be ok for someone in Gen Z who might not know any of this, but there were only one or two bits of “trivia” I didn’t already know. In fact, much of it I wouldn’t even categorize as trivia, but more general knowledge. Here’s an example of the level of the book: The Beatles started out as The Quarrymen. That’s as deep as it goes. If you already knew this, the book is not for you either.

Not to my taste

I received a copy of this book free for my honest opinion. My opinion is it isn't something that I would have bought. The trivia isn't so much trivia as mostly well-known facts. The book was hard to read because it was rather dry and boring which seems rather difficult to do regarding the subject matter, but they've managed it. The bands and musicians chosen seemed very arbitrary with many popular bands not represented at all. Not something I enjoyed much and definitely something I won't re-read.

Great Information

I truly enjoyed this nonfiction Rock Trivia book. I learned some fascinating things about bands that I love. Madonna's music video "Express Yourself" was created by David Fincher. It covers the decades from 1960 to the end of 1990s. I opened a YouTube tab on my computer and played samples of songs that I was not familiar with. This is a book that I will refer to the next time I purchase music. I did not know the group "Chic", but after listening to them on YouTube, I definitely see how this group influenced groups like Daft Punk. I recommend this book for anyone who has interest in the deeper aspects of music history. It also comes with fun facts and interesting questions at the end of each chapter.

Good Intro to Rock Albums

3.25 Stars A fun Rock n Roll trivia book, mostly about musicians/bands from the 60-90s. It's not comprehensive, but there are some interesting tidbits in the book, a few quizzes, and a good section on albums that music lovers should listen to if they haven't already. For readers who enjoy music history, especially Rock. LT Members Giveaway

I knew too much already.

The thing about this book is I knew too much already. In the new 80-90s stuff I lost interest. I guess I just didn’t appreciate this book.

The author is obviously not a musician

Nothing but praise for punk bands, who are the antithesis of actual music, as proclaimed by themselves. Calling them important doesn't make them so

Plenty of music trivia.

The author did well including many different artists and bands in this book. Anyone who enjoys trivia and rock music should read this book. It will be a pleasant experience.

Chapters are followed by "Random Fun Facts" and a "Test Yourself" section

A book to capture your attention. It is set up into chapters for each year 60-90's. The information provides short snippets about highlighted artists. Chapters are followed by "Random Fun Facts" and a "Test Yourself" section. A fun book!

Interesting!!

This book is full of interesting music information. You can share with family and friends. Some of the best elements are the fact sheets and trivia questions -- make your own too if you want. It is a good read if you are mad about Rock music.

It's okay

The book is ok, but it's short on trivia and high on opinion. Covering four decades is ambitious and the lack of substance shows.

The Musical History Anthology

You were once curious, but with this book, you will finally know the answers to all your questions. Artfully written.

Fun Quick Read

Good fast read. Some good trivia included.

I had discovered some new amazing music from before my time

I'm not a huge rock fan by any means but I was able to get this one for free so I gave it a go. I was surprised on how interested I became in these stories. I found it very interesting to read about a band and then look them up on Spotify and baaam, I had discovered some new amazing music from before my time. Great book!

A great read on Kindle!!

Awesome on kindle!! So much great information!! A must read for music lovers.

Good Laugh

This is a really good laugh

Shocking price and quality. Beware!

Ordered on Amazon Prime. Took 2 days not one. Disgusted with the price charged for this item. £12 for an extremely thin small book. £3 or less would have been a fair price. I have organised a return. Amazon you should be ashamed!

Overpriced

Expensive for what it is

For rock fan

I got new information that I didn’t know
