A pleasant, light, & inoffensive meal that could've used a little extra seasoning.
After reading it twice, I can confidently say I liked Our Dining Table. There are, however, a few things that keep it from being a story I'd love. Two things in particular were a bit of a letdown: 1. Minoru. If Mita Ori meant to tell a good love story, they got at least half of it right with Yutaka. Minoru, however, is where it falls apart. You get the sense that he's a responsible, hardworking person who ultimately cares about people, but his attitude throughout the entire book makes it so you don't care for him as much as you want to. Minoru never shows any real warmth - throughout the entire book, his only moods are either Irritated, Uninterested, or Somber. Even when he's verbally expressing vulnerability, joy, or love, it almost never shows in his face, and it makes you question just how genuine he really is. Like Yutaka, Minoru and his family have a tragic backstory, but you don't really feel for Minoru much when he starts telling it. Minoru's little brother and Minoru's father were both much more likable, but it felt strange for me not to like the man that Yutaka actually ended up falling in love with. Minoru's blandness could have been forgiven if it was at least used as a running joke throughout the story, but Our Dining Table never presents itself as a comedy. 2. The lack of color. A lot of manga tends to be drawn in black & white, but this is one instance where that style doesn't suit this story. Because food is such an essential element here, and as beautifully as it's drawn, it would've been so much more appetizing and meaningful had it been presented in color. Many things can have leave a lasting impression in black & white, but the food in this story doesn't seem to be one of them. I was ambivalent about the lack of any uniquely LGBT elements in this story. If Mita Ori made either Yutaka or Minoru a woman, it wouldn't have changed anything about the story. On the one hand, it's a disappointment, but on the other, it's refreshing - an LGBT love story with zero homophobia, zero struggles with being closeted, and zero straight characters embarking on a difficult journey to acceptance. The same-gender element in this story is essentially taken for granted, but perhaps the lack of drama surrounding that fact can give straight readers an easier time connecting with Yutaka and Minoru. And here's who I loved in this story: Yutaka, Tane (Minoru's little brother), and Minoru's father. Yutaka hit all the right emotional beats, while Tane brings a sense of mild humor and cuteness to the story. Tane's father made me smile for every scene he was in - goofy, easygoing, friendly, and I connected with his expression of grief more than Minoru's. This actually might have been a better story if Minoru was cut out completely - if the father's only child was Tane, and the father was also around Yutaka's age, it might've been a lot more heartwarming to see *him* fall in love with Yutaka instead. A young, easygoing, recently widowed single father with limited culinary skills falls for a lonely but talented cook who never connected with his adopted family? I'd definitely read that one.
my heart is warm and my stomach is hungry
Reading this book feels a bit like getting a nice hug. The characters are endearing, the food sounds delicious, and the romance is wholesome. I liked that the story didn't solely focus on romantic relationships -- it's more of a "becoming family" story than a romance, IMO. Recommended if you're looking for something sweet.
Beautiful
This absolutely warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Tane was so adorable, I just couldn't quit smiling. Definitely a good thing to read when you need to be uplifted. And we will be reading again and again.
Cute Story, Recommended Read
I thought the plot was great, especially the family history which explanation of why they had issues as adults, although clearly unresolved in this book. Tane calling Yutaka by the wrong name was cute. However, this is what kept me from loving this book... *SPOILERS* 1) Minoru frowned through the entire book. It didn't seem like Minoru was ever going to forgive his mother for dying and live happily, even though he'd found Yutaka. He was also quite jealous of his little brother being so close with Yutaka which didn't seem to jive with how much time the brothers spent together. Though the father was there, it seemed like Minoru was raising his brother and took him everywhere. 2) I didn't like the epilogue where Tane seemed embarrassed by Yutaka, contradictory of how close they once were and made me not like teen-Tane AT ALL. 3) Child-Tane looked like he was yelling most of the time and that made me think he was always acting like a brat. And, for some reason, the artist decided to leave out at least one of Yutaka's eyes here and there throughout the book and and I did a double-take every time I saw it. I'm all for unique style but not when it distracts from the story. Book arrived in perfect condition.
It's such a lovely novel
This book is amazingly sweet and endearing. It's not tooth-rotting fluff (which I also enjoy), but like a nice mug of tea on a cold day, a fuzzy blanket when you're chilly. I think I was smiling through the entire thing, and I felt cheered up after reading it. The extra at the end was the cherry on top. The only reason I docked a star is because there are some plot points that are brought up, but not fully resolved. There are hints of family issues with both men, but I felt only one of them got a well-rounded conclusion. It's not enough to distract from the story, just something I noticed upon my second (or third) reading.
What a treat!!!
I discovered this title by chance and was convinced to try it by all the positive reviews. It was such a nice story I love it! It even made me tear up a bit at the end I love all the characters, the food theme, the tenderness of the family dynamic and the cute epilogue!
Really wonderful.
This was a great read. I hope there will be more to their story; the story after Yutaka said, "Let's live together." Some sexy scenes with Minoru as the seme would be awesome. Minority is definitely the same here. I would also like to see Yu's family have to acknowledge how shitty they were and apologize. I so want this to be done as an anime, it's that good.
Unfairly Cute
I wanted a feel good story, I was getting sick of nothing but the explicit stuff, and this warmed my cold dead heart so much. It gives you so many feels, and the main characters are totally endearing. I wish this was a series so much, one book wasn't enough, but if you want a feel good story, this is where it's at. If you want tied up loose ends.... Not so much. :D
Heart: Full. Stomach: Empty. Mood: Lifted!
This was absolutely adorable! I honestly wish it was longer because I'd love to see some more resolution for Tane's family issues, but a happy ending and warm romance is a pretty good note to end on.

Very cute story
This is a very cute love story about love, food and family. It's not a +18 read it just a fun loving store. I read it with my 7 year old.
Light, but not fluffy
Ejoyable, sweet, endearing, pleasant. No heavy lifting required. No major conflict. Nothing to rock the boat. Just a nice story of two guys falling for each other over time, over food. It might not sound like much, but I keep going back to it. Very happy purchase.
Overall very cute
This is such a cute slice of life manga! It lived up to my expectations, and I loved it a lot. It had a few cute recipes like the donabe rice and the onigiri, so I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing negative I can say is that it didn't have more recipes, but the author addresses that at the end of the volume. It also came in perfect condition. If you don't like the slow pace of slice of life then this may not be for you, but overall very cute.
This book is so sweet
I'm always leery of BL stories because surprise sex is a thing. This story is wholesome, healthy, and full of sweet kindnesses. I've probably read it 20 times now because the theme doesn't get old. A story of loss, learning, and how to connect again when you have felt lost or like being alone is all there is. Truly lovely.
Melt your heart
This one was just beautiful. I cried, I laughed. Its sweet, and with the little brother helping our couple along; a nice family story. I’d read more from this author.
I cried, it's so cute
I bought this digitally but I may buy a physical copy of this too. It was so heartfelt and cute and everyone was written so wonderfully. It's a gentle story and my heart cant take it 😭 Please check this out, it's so good.
Awwww.
This was so adorable and fluffy. I really wanted to see !more of these boys. It was a great little boys love story.
If I could give it more stars I would!
So much amazing Fluff! I enjoyed this so much when I finished it I wish I had more! You won’t regret this manga I promise!
Delightful
I could really get into this on so many levels. It's a simple story. And yet it's complex at the same time .
Extremely cute
The book came fast and in great condition. The story is really seriously cute and light. No heavy drama.
Sweet and heartwarming!
A very sweet read that left me warm and content. Recommended for a light and cute read of characters coming together over food and finding love.
Adorable!
It was very cute! A nice wholesome story for a rainy day. It was a quick read (at least for me, then again, I finish mangas in less than an hour even when distracted so I’m not sure how accurate my analysis is). It’s a nice refreshing fluffy BL story that will definitely make you squeal in some parts. I definitely recommend it!
Beautiful
Such a pretty story the art was really gorgeous and the story was heart warming definitely would recommend to a friend
This is my new favorite one shot manga.
This story was too pure for this world. The perfect manga to read on Christmas Eve night. Been on my wishlist for awhile and I'm glad I caved and bought it.
Just adorable
This book is just an adorable story with a lovely cast of characters. If you're feeling down, this is a great pick me up. I would recommend this book to anyone that just wants a sweet story.
Sugary Sweet!
The story was not only adorable but heartwarming. Along with such a beautiful art style, it was really an amazing purchase.
A sweet, caring story
I don't really care that this is BL, I just like the romance aspect of it. Two good, intelligent people finding what they are missing in each other. I have re-read this multiple times because it touched me.
A quick, sweet read!
A super cute story about food, love, and family. I read it in about an hour or so, and felt warm to my bones the whole time.
A Very Happy Read
Loved it. Have already read it several times. I would love to read more about them.

Very Cute! Loved the story and art style :)

WHAT A CUTE STORY
I LOVE THIS STORY OMG!! I definitely recommend!!!!!
cozy romance
The story is about a lonely person, Yutaka, who has a complex about eating food with other people, finally finding belonging with a family that loves him as he is. In an incredibly adorable meet-cute, Yutaka crosses paths with two brothers, Minoru and Tane. Tane, the toddler, loves Yutaka's cooking, and urges Yutaka to teach him how to make delicious onigiri; Minoru, happy to see his little brother enjoying something, invites Yutaka to have a meal at their house. Thus begins their weekly ritual of eating together, and Yutaka himself is surprised as he doesn't feel the same apprehension about eating with them and instead starts looking forward to the weekends when he gets to meet them. Slowly Yutaka and Minoru open up to each other about their backstory and how much this has come to mean to them. The romance develops subtly, but we have to give credit to Tane for starting much of it, unknowingly. At one point, the kid literally was like 'stay for dinner? nah, stay here forever' though there were also parts where he interrupts Minoru gathering his courage, while blushing, to make some sort of confession. The latter half of the story was speeded up a bit, when they start dating, and Yutaka is scared of things changing; that story arc merited its own entire volume, to be honest, but I liked how it was resolved nevertheless. So much of it was about finding people you are comfortable with, finding people you are happy to share a meal with, and I would be lying if it didn't bring me to tears at some points. Overall, it's a sweet story about food, comfort and family!
Adorable manga that unites slow-burn romance + love of food
When I’m too busy to think, my optimal reading choices (if I can muster up the energy!) are: graphic novels, novellas, and short stories. My reading in 2020 so far has consisted of: 4 novellas and 2 graphic novels. I think that tells you all you need to know about how the month has gone! The graphic novel I finished this morning, Mita Ori’s Our Dining Table, was a delightful escape from reality. It also made me ravenously hungry for ramen. Luckily, there’s a ramen shop down the street… Our Dining Table follows the solitary Yutaka, a young man who is a talented cook but doesn’t like to eat with others due to past trauma. When he bumps into the adorable Tane and his older brother Minoru at the park during his lunch hour, he is charmed by their relationship. Four-year-old Tane, in turn, is obsessed with Yutaka’s homemade food. So begins an association, and then a relationship, first based on a shared love of food… that eventually leads to love love. First of all, I have to give a shout-out to the Cybils, because if I hadn’t been on the graphic novel award committee in 2018, I never would have added myself to the Seven Seas (a manga publisher) email newsletter. And then I never would have heard of Our Dining Table, which is, for the record, ADORABLE. My interest was piqued by this book because: food + graphic novel = instant yes. THEN I saw that it also featured an LGBTQ+ romance, and I was like, yes, okay, let’s GO. One of my favorite books of 2019 (Bloom) was another graphic novel that mixed food and love. It also has the CUTEST cover? So really, I was primed to be enchanted by this book. And then, it had the gall to be just… super sweet?? With good pacing, great art, and moments of light angst that pulled my heartstrings??? Ugh, yeah, it was wonderful. And satisfying. Even if I am still hungry. Ha! But yeah, let’s dig in to what I liked so much about it. There was the food, of course – Yutaka ingratiates himself to (and integrates into) the Ueda family recipe by recipe. First he shows them how he makes rice, and then onigiri, and then curry... and in turn they accept him unquestioningly and show him their own recipes. The mentions of food don’t break up the narrative, but they sound (and look!) mouth-wateringly good. The increasing intimacy between Minoru and Yutaka is also played exactly right. Their relationship is sweet, slow-moving, and comes along with growing trust and interruptions from a certain excitable younger brother. Each of them open up, bit by bit, to the other, and yes it may be idealized but it’s so delightful. This book was a joy to while away an hour with, and I can already tell I’ll want to pick it up again. Also, the art! I don’t read many manga style graphic novels, but as far as I can tell the black on white line art was fairly standard for the genre. HOWEVER, I feel attacked by how cute Tane was. Like Studio Ghibli cute. Every time he was excited (which was nearly always) his eyes got even more enormous and it was unsustainably adorable! I also thought Mita Ori’s use of texture and patterns was excellent – and of course the panels featuring food were incredible. I remain impressed overall, but the art was really special. In conclusion: if anything in my review struck a chord, you should read this book, preferably with some snacks nearby. It’s adorable (have I used that word enough?), and it’ll make you hungry and happy all at once. Recommended for: readers who like gentle, quiet love stories, à la Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau’s young adult graphic novel Bloom, fans of light manga, and those intrigued by graphic novels about food.
Satisfying comfort reading that may try to do a little too much in one volume
The story is quietly reassuring, good relaxation without being demanding in any way, a warm manga bath. Author Mita Ori manages to combine a boys’ love story, food manga, and a cute kid into a single-volume story. Young office worker Yutaka lives on “ready-to-eat supermarket meals and salads.” The only thing he ever cooks are onigiri (rice balls with filling), and he always eats alone. A chance encounter with Tane, a kid who loves his onigiri, and his much older brother Minoru winds up with the three sharing meals and cooking together. The family interactions lead to Yutaka opening his heart and coming to terms with the long-ago sibling mistreatment that caused his food phobias. Both men were lonely and unsure of themselves until they met each other in this quietly building romance — with a smidge of drama for spice, and some lovely holiday confessions. Artistically, the food looks tasty, Tane is cute without being overbearing, and the boys’ expressions when either eating or looking at each other are sufficiently emotional to drag the reader along with their feelings at the time. I’m impressed Ori brought so many of these threads together coherently, and it was a pleasure to read a volume that did what it needed and concluded. Sweet bonding over food
'Our Dining Table' is a cute romance manga about food and family togetherness, and I really enjoyed it. It's interesting to compare this to Sweetness and Lightning, which is similar in theme, but because it features two 20-something guys, the bonding over food as a social experience can carry more of the flirting and romantic elements, especially as they feed each other. (To be fair, Sweetness and Lightning never quite makes explicit the teacher-student romance, but it's uncomfortably close some times.) Anyway, this was cute, and it's a nice gay one-shot for someone looking to read a story about people discovering someone who will complement them.
Wholesome BL Manga
This is the story of a young man who meets a little kid in the park. The kid eats his onigiri because he was hungry, his older brother shows up and the two young men form a friendship. This is one of the sweetest manga I've ever read. I highly recommend this manga to everyone who wants a story about life, love, and food.
WHOLESOME!
It’s by far one of my favorite stories ever. It’s wholesome, honestly. Even though I’ve read it before online, I was eager to buy a hard copy when it became available and it’s one of my favorites in my collection.
Sweet and wholesome
Adorable - the most heart-warming manga I've read in a long time.
Guaranteed to make you smile
This book is so heartfelt and sweet, I nearly cried reading it! Just fills you with good feelings
Loved this manga
Really good story
Lovely and Wholesome Yaoi Manga
I absolutely loved this story, the characters were so meant to be and I love the art style of Mita Ori. 😊 My only criticism is that it would've been better as a series, like 3-4 volumes where the development of the characters and story could've been longer and involve more romantic scenes. 😉 Plus I would've liked to meet Yutaka's adopted family to see them reconcile a bit. All round 9.5/10. ❤️
Heart warming story
A really lovely story that shows that family is something you can choose and that it can be different to what other peoples are.
Super cute and heartwarming
A really nicely paced realistic slice of life romance. The man characters were so cute and the family adorable ☺️ I loved it!
Brilliant book. I love it!
I'm so glad that I purchased this novel. A beautiful story with great illustrations. I'll be looking out for further books from this author.

Pleased
The corner of the cover was abit bent but overall its good.
This was a really cute manga.
This manga was a very sweet story and was very fun to read.
Cosa hermosa, cosa bien hecha.
Cute story
It's nice to read a fluffy BL that feels like any other romance. I do like Yaoi but it's nice to also read G-rated stories. I'm also more used to reading long series and this has a completed story in one volume which was a nice change. It feels like it could have been better spanning a few volumes but overall it's a sweet story and I would definitely recommend!
Heartwarming
This was such a heartwarming shounen-ai. I loved the pacing and all the characters in the story. The backstory had sadness and loss but the love in the family softened that to bittersweet pangs and made the unfolding romance between Minoru and Yutaka all the sweeter.
Wundervoll
Our Dining Table
An absolutely wonderful story about two guys who meet, thanks to Minori's younger brother, and bond over food they make together, that also leads to a cute romance. The artwork is fantastic too. i do love the setting and look of the characters and not to mention the delicious looking food they make. A very good book.
Adorable
AMAZING!!!
This manga oneshot is amazing! I loved it! The only thing that bothers me is that the coner came a little bent!
Recommend it
Man this story is cute and how do u say it heartwarming . But I wish there were more more u know a seqeul where minoru got to meet Yutaka's parents. If u just started reading manga or bl manga I recommend this one as I said the manga is fluffy, realistic .
Cute storyline
One of the first mangas i read and the story was really cute
