I followed scanlations of this online before it was officially translated to English, and IMMEDIATELY placed a preorder for this English version once it became available. It's one of the sweetest, cutest manga I've read, and will especially resonate if you've ever owned a cat. Very lowkey, slice-of-life humor. The English translation did bug me a little, because the cat (Fukumaru) has an idiosyncratic way of narrating where some words are replaced with cat puns (so in English, "for sure" = "fur sure," "perfect" = "purrfect," etc.) and for some reason one of the ways they chose to translate that was to replace the word "my" with "meowy," which doesn't make sense to me at all. That was the only thing I didn't like, though, and it's not a big deal. Definitely pick this up if you're looking for something quick and adorable!

Heartwarming and beautiful, this story about a lonely cat and a lonely man who find each other is definitely worth reading and I'm going to preorder the sequel as soon as I can!

Cute factor a TEN!!! Adorable. An older man and his pet cat. Too cute. The font size is large and easy to read. The artwork is cute. And the story is simple, soothing, calming, a gentle balm for the soul. I feel this a book for grown ups though. I’m quite pleased I pre-ordered this manga. Worth the wait. Looking forward to volume 2!!! This was my Valentine’s Day present to myself. I’m happy.

This honestly was one of the best mom that I have read in a while. The stories of each character that you meet, all intertwine beyond just ouji-sama and his cat. It is such a beautiful and complex world, I found myself running through the Gambit of emotions in this very quick read. I absolutely insist you buy this and read it. And please, if you see an ugly cat or ugly dog, show it some love.

While it's all too obvious that a cat as kawaii as Fukumaru would never be languishing in a pet shop for more than a week, Umi Sakurai snags readers with her adorable, lively illustrations and heartwarming tale involving the tender relationship between the plump 'n' fluffy Fukumaru and his owner, Kanda. However simple A Man and His Cat may be, it's far more touching than one might expect, and in fact, has the emotional power to move some readers to tears. Nevertheless, don't get me wrong, Sakurai's tale isn't sad or depressing, only sentimental. Fortunately, Sakurai's gift for storytelling along with her extra-cute presentation makes it a quick and compelling read, not only for cat-lovers, but for young adults to middle-agers. (If you enjoyed Chi's Sweet Home (even though the general target age is for young readers), chances are you'll enjoy this one just as much, if not more.)

I’m thrilled with how much manga is coming to Kindle! I love this series since I started reading the fan translations. Immediately bought a plushie of the cat to hug <3 it’s so so cute, I love all the characters, the story, everything! I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats! I downloaded the sample and was instantly hooked; As a cat lover who has only ever owned rescues, I instantly nearly broke down in tears as the cat got adopted after waiting for over a year, listening to jabs and insults all along to the point he gave up hope. It instantly made me want to snuggle my own cat—a rescue I adopted just before the shelter told me that if it had been any longer, she was going to be sent to a kill shelter to be put down. Why? She was an adult cat, had been there for months, adopted once—and RETURNED two months later, the family claiming she didn’t get along with other cats. They only told me this after I had decided that it was love at first sight—she hated me!—and I was adopting her. The shelter, like many in the US, is a no-kill shelter. . .but animals who go unadopted too long, or who are returned, are simply relocated to kill shelters, allowing the original shelter to maintain it’s no kill stance (All the while sending the animals off elsewhere to have their lives taken too soon.) That’s just my current cat; All the others, who sadly passed on, were also rescues, some young, some adults, and only once have I had a kitten. I think this manga does an AMAZING job of showing how the long wait for a home can take a toll on an animal, how adult cats are TOTALLY worth adopting, and how rewarding the relationship between pet and owner can be. For the record; The angry, hissing cat, who fought with all the others, I brought home and gave her space to adjust. Within a month, she had become an adorable, snuggly, warm, loving cat—who loved my other rescue cat! It’s worth noting that, like in the manga, you need to do research on cats, especially rescues you adopt, and especially if you have another cat at home. Like the cat in the series, another of my rescue cats has a funny face; Since she was a feral stray that we fed, who came to decide to live in my home by her own choosing, she’s not used enough to humans allow for much petting—but her disgruntled face is, beyond a doubt, entirely too cute, and in fact, is WHAT makes her so cute! I love that forever unimpressed expression her markings give her, even if, years later, she still won’t let me pet her more than once or twice so far—and my other cats adore playing with her! Just because a cat or dog is a little unusual looking, or isn’t so into being touched, doesn’t mean they still aren’t loving or able to bring you, your other pets, and others great joy! Not just touching, this series is informative, educational, and just cute beyond words! I’m buying volume two as soon as I finish this review—and I can’t wait to read volume 3! If you’re on the fence, try the sample, but trust me—you won’t regret supporting this title, considered one of the top titles of 2018!

After seeing this manga recommended to me countless times, I finally took the plunge to purchase and read it. I am so incredibly happy I did so! This manga is so wholesome and heartwarming. I don’t cry easily while reading but this manga caused all the water works. There is something so pure and lovely to see two lonely souls find one another and learn new times every day. This manga demonstrates the compassion and sincerity that not most manga can convey. I highly recommend this series to all regardless of how you feel about slice of life. Now excuse me as I go blow my nose and hug my own cat.

Best thing I read in a long time. Out of all I read I don't read much manga. Glad I got this one even if it is expensive. Still have to learn how to read it as it seems like I am reading the panels in some kind of wrong order. Please consider donating to rescues and sanctuaries that help older and disabled animals. So I'm not a cat person but I loved this manga. Its so cute and positive and sad. If you want to happy cry so hard you get dehydrated, this is a great option. Initially I anticipated the story becoming stale fast, but as of the end of this book its still interesting in part due to the other interesting characters that have been introduced. I'm not the biggest art person either and I can't tell good apart from bad, artwise but I thought it looked nice too. Overall, if you like or even tolerate cats, or have a pet at all, this is for you

This book was so necessary for me in 2020. It's full of feels and charm and I just needed to read something that made my heart melt. I adore this story so much. I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a heartwarming story. Also--I mean if you love cats, you will love this.

I don't know why, but this book just grabbed me. Somehow it just worked. Seeing things from the human's and the cat's perspective was perfect. A very good light read. It's like comfort food in book form.

I saw good reviews for this manga and the premise sounded interesting, so I went for it and bought this volume. Short chapters, yes, quick read, yes, but very enjoyable. It's refreshing to see an older protagonist, and not a teenager for once. His relationship with the cat was really sweet to behold. It's similar to My Roommate is a Cat in the sense that you get to see the story from both the man's and the cat's point of view, so they each feel like their own character. Definitely give A Man and His Cat a read, it's worth the time and money.

This book is first and foremost, super cute. However, it has depth as well. Both the man and the cat have suffered loss and mental anguish in their past, but this story is about them finding each other and beginning to help one another heal. 10/10 would recommend

I've never met a more realistic story about welcoming a pet into your life. It's so sweet! It's wonderful to see so much love and kindness written into a story with such a lovely concept. There's just enough background and side characters in the main character's life to keep things interesting, but not so much they're distracting from his time with his kitty. I can't wait to read more.

ok... so it seems like the author has major add. the storyline keeps recalling to memories thru every few pages. it does not make sense. OR the comic strips are MIXED up. this dude owner has crazy love for his animal thats really lame .

Super cute and pure story with a bunch of cat moments every cat owner (and lover) would understand. The cat himself is a little self conscious because of what he has been through but then comes a fantastic gentleman that changes the cats life for the better.

When I was reading reviews for the book one comment stood out and that it’s a “book for those who feel lonely” and they were right. It’s such a wholesome book and the relationship between the man and his cat. It made me tear up due to how wholesome it is. Now I will be my favorite book.

Came in perfect condition, and earlier than expected. The story is very cute…what else do you expect from a man and his cat? It feels of very good quality, and the color pages and the end are adorable. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fun yet calm(ing) manga!

It's silly and serious, happy and sad, and so terribly precious. I hope Sakurai-Sensei releases another volume soon. I highly recommend it for "slice of life" manga lovers.

this is my very first purchase of manga book and actually my first time to read from right to left. i needed a bit of adjustment to read. the story is simple but so heartwarming. i have no cats (i want one tho!) so i can’t relate about everything but i can feel their love for one another. good job, author! this is such a light read (less than 30 minutes) but very enjoyable. can’t wait for the second book!

This is one of the cutest stories I have ever read and I read aplenty it cute stories before. I’d recommend to anyone who loves cats and/or pets alike.

I never review but with this one I had too. I own or should I say am owned by several cats. I also work at an animal shelter. From the first page to the last I was captured by the truth in this story of the connection with our animal family members and them to us. This story is also beautifully drawn so I am so happy I purchased this manga and plan on sharing it at my work. No one could regret getting this manga!

Fun casual read and I enjoyed it a lot. If you just want to read a comic that doesn't move at a snails pace and has some resolution so you're not left on constant cliff hangers.

Immediately bought this as soon as I found out it involved having a cat (total cat lover) and so glad I bought it. A wicked touching story of how an adult cat waits to be bought in a pet store and then one day a man does just that. Won't spoil anything but already looking forward to the next volume!

Very sweet and adorable story. It's more slice of life, so there's not much action, but the story itself is very moving and heartwarming. Recommend especially to anyone that has ever had a pet or wanted one, but I'd definitely say this is a story worth reading for anyone. God this story. It got me from the first page and as someone who has two cats (including one, Harley, who constantly follows me around, sleeps with me, always wants to be in my lap or on top of me and has been known to yowl when I'm not with her) I knew all too well the feelings of both man and cat. I can't wait for the next volume, I wanna read so many more stories about these two, i love it so much. I teared up at certain points because of how much it resonated with me. Anyone who loves cats or any animal should read this.

The cat you already feel attached to it because of the trapped world he's been living in and in a way it is like both the owner and the cat are re discovering their lives / self through each other.
