Never Touch a Porcupine!

The textures in the book are cute and fun for my 11 month old. She played with this book all day when I first gave it to her. The silicone that the textured parts are made out of though are very sticky, and tiny little hairs from carpet, clothing, what have you get stuck in them (primarily the front cover). More than anything though, and I’m not a mom who is overly sensitive, but I found this book to be extremely negative. For example, the first page reads, “You must never touch a porcupine, he’s not a fluffy cat, he’ll spike you with his giant quills and then that will be that.” The rest of the book goes on to warn you that squirrels will pelt you with acorns, and all of the other animals you shouldn’t touch will do something bad to you as well if you try to touch them. I mean, obviously i don’t advocate for my child touching porcupines either, but the whole theme is just rather negative and fearful for a book targeted at babies. Now given, my baby doesn’t understand these words, but I definitely wouldn’t want to read this book to a young child who could take these things literally. There is simply no need to base a baby board book around the concept of “you better not do this, or else you will be hurt!” I mean... come on.

This is not my favorite book in the series but my son loves these books.

My baby plays with the quills of the porcupine and really enjoys it but the only thing I don't like is that all the "feel" parts of the book are the same material just made into different shapes creating an illusion of different textures so that was dissappointing.

My kids love the books but this one is not as good. The last one is “you must never touch a prickly folk” which is odd to me, and it shows a picture of a fox 🤔

My 10-month-old child loves this book! He gets excited every time I pull it out for bedtime, although he keeps on trying to turn it back to the cover page so he can feel the spikes on the porcupine. All of the inner pages with pictures have animals with textured silicon, but the texture is more subtle than the front - probably so the book can still close and is a reasonable thickness.

These books are ADORABLE! My 1 year old loves petting the animals even though the book clearly states to NEVER touch! :) The textures are interesting for little hands to explore and the colors are bright and eye catching. The rhymes are short and cute. The books are sturdy enough for him to carry everywhere and still be in decent shape. I've given these as gifts to friends/family with babies and every single one of them have loved them. I have bought 3 of these books and will be purchasing the others too.

My son was excited when I showed him this book, he is 14 months old and is very into the touchy books with rubber/silicone. So why the 2 stars? Well we got the book on the 10th and it is now the 12th and he has already ripped 2 pages out of the book. We have had the Toot/Tooth/Tubby books for months and months with barely a scratch, but 2 days of this book and the spine is busted and pages are ripped. Maybe better for older kids.

Our little one-year old granddaughter loves the textures on the pages of this book, especially on the cover. They love the textures at this age and it holds her attention with each page. Great size book, although it's a bit difficult to handle at the 1-year mark but the colors are bright and the pictures exciting for little ones.

I bought this for a newborn, 3, 5 and 7 year old, the older three were all fascinated by these as well as the other two books in this line that I bought. No word yet on the youngest's thoughts. They are well made and well received, with a fun, engaging storyline. What more can you ask for?

This series of board books is fabulous!! I have purchased so many books for our little one and these are her favorites. There’s not much of a story, it’s more for sensory. Each animal on each page has a different textured piece that she loves to touch. I recommend buying one and you’ll see!!

We bought a whole slew of these "Do Not Touch" books for our infant daughter (10 months). She's at an age where texture recognition and distinction is an important part of her development, and so she loves feeling the pages. My 4-year old son also loves reading the books to her! I want them all and I will keep them forever. It would be a great gift for a baby shower or first birthday.

This book is fantastic!!! I bought this one and 2 others while they were on sale because I'd heard good things. My son is obsessed. He's always been a fan of touch and feel books, but after opening this one today he won't put it down. We read it before nap and he literally carried it around all morning. Seems very well made as well.

My 8 month old LOVES this book!!! I think it will be a favorite for a long time. I plan on buying others in the series. Don't hesitate to get one for your child! Start a love of reading early. Reading this to my baby and watching her interact with it brings me so much joy.

I feel like the writers only had 10 seconds to come up with each poem. The first one takes "cat", arguably the easiest word in the english language to rhyme with, and couldn't finish the sentence with something that rolls off the tongue and just sounds awkward. That being said, our child still likes touching the animals and flipping the pages.

My son loves these books. He likes the cover of this one in particular since the quills are very fun for him to touch. I will say that this one is a bit darker than the Shark one.. the animals are all somewhat sinister!!

This book is super cute! I read it to my 7 month old and she loves it! The only critic I have is that the only fun part for her is the cover. As I read the book to her, she tends to turn it to the front cover to play with the spikes. I wished there were more fun textures in the inside to grab her attention since the inside textures are not as bold. Other than that, I’m sure she’ll love it more once she gets a little older.

My 6 mo old really loves the textures and colors in this book. I bought another one after seeing how much the book was enjoyed. The rhymes/story is not the best though.

These books are our granddaughters FAVORITE books. She is in love with the texture of these books. She has looked at these books daily for months now (she is 10 months old) and they are still her favorite go to book.

These books are so great for babies/ toddlers. My 18 month old will sit and “read” this book for 10 min. Which is a long time in 18 mo terms. I bought this one for my brand new nephew and hopefully he will love it as much as my kids do.

Board books are board books, but this one is darling. I had it at my house for my granddaughter and when she went home, the book seemed to disappear! Oh well, I'm glad she's enjoying it at home.

I had this book memorized within a day. Absolutely adorable. Very soft, squishy silicone parts, no silicone smell. I went back and purchased the Dragon version as I was so happy with this one. A must buy

We love this book! I read it at work (as a nanny) and had to buy it for my 1 year old. The rhyming is fantastic and having the ability to “touch” the animals is perfect for little hands.

Fun book but...the cover is the best touch piece, others are understandably flat and with a toddler this thing has had to be duct taped back together repeatedly.

I first bought the "Never touch a shark" from this series. My baby LOVES it. She seems mesmerized by the colors and textures so I just purchased this one. First impression: baby was also SO excited by the colors and textures. I agree with other comments regarding the rhymes (they don't really make sense) but I take it as an imaginary story and I tell my child whatever I want from the page. The colors and textures keep my child entertained and for this reason I take it as a good buy.

All of these “never touch a ______” books are GREAT. My 9 month old loved the shark book and now also loves porcupine. The silicone textures on every page give her something to play with while we read the funny story that goes with it. Bought other books of the same series as well, can’t wait to show the baby

The book is cute and interactive, but I think it might be confusing when the book tells kids to not touch an animal then makes the animal something to be touched with textured silicone.

Love these books! I have quite a few of the “Never touch” series and they are some of my 5 month old daughter’s favorite! As a parent I even enjoy the rhyming and tactile experiences!

Baby loves touched to cover, and that seems to be all. My other gripe is that it's hard to read the book in a dim or red light as the words are all different colors. We just don't read this one at night. Otherwise it's cute and quirky, just not as good as Yeti Spaghetti.

We loved the book “Never Touch a Dinosaur” so we thought this one might be great too. It isn’t, the author just throws together nonsense that doesn’t really even fit the Never Touch a Dino format. This book is just plain dumb.

Got this for my nephew and he loves it! I do as well. We read it together via FaceTime! So we have two copies :) we like all them. I would recommend if you have a little one in your life that likes reading. The different textures are also fun.

This book is fun to read, while the child or baby feels the different textures that are provided. Seems to be well made and will last a long time of child handling.

the book does not rhyme well

This book is cute and fun! Another reader said it is too negative, but honestly, don't look too much into it. Does every page say "you must never touch"? Yes! But who cares? It's supposed to be fun and silly for kids, and it catches the attention of toddlers, so that's what counts...especially when you read it in a fun way! It's not a lesson book to teach essential skills, but it wasn't intended on being one. Colorful, clever and catchy rhymes, and textured pages. The only thing they could have improved upon is adding some other textures (each page has different silicone things to touch)....but we love this series! Also, if you like the idea of this book but are hung up on the "never" part, try "Always hug a Unicorn". Very cute!
