Great book

Great book to the point my 3 year old son loved it so much I can't get him to shut up about the planets. Lol

Amazing book!

Our great grandson, age 7, is into really into space. He loves this book that we got him for his birthday! Every night Mom reads out of it, and they look at the awesome photos! Excellent!

It really is a BIG book!

Bought this for my 4 year old niece and she LOVES it! I was FaceTiming with her while looking through it and it definitely reminded me of how impactful my first book on planets/space was to me as her eyes got big and gazed across the huge pages. Great detailed photos as well. Very informative too, my brother said he’s even learning stuff from it. Only wish is that it came in a hard back. Def worth it though.

Good starter book

My kid loves space and this is a good starter book for her to learn about planters and starts.

Space-obsessed Child Approved

Excellent illustrations and lots of great information fill this awesome book. Our child is a proficient reader, so he's always reciting facts about planets to us. He learns a lot - and loves paging through looking at the pictures. I imagine this book will wear out pretty quickly... bc of the amount of use it gets.

5 year old grandson loved it

After a trip to the planetarium, this book was a perfect follow- up.

Beautiful pictures

Full of beautiful pictures and well organized, easy to understand information.

The Pages all Fell Out!

Great book, age appropriate, full of information, nice big pictures. But not long after getting it all the pages started to fall out, so we haven’t been able to use it. Interestingly we got the dinosaur one like this, and that didn’t happen. I had read the reviews warning of this and hoped they were wrong, but alas! no…I have been procrastinating but I’m going to see if they will replace it. Wish me luck! (5 stars for content, but I guess none for structural integrity)

Perfect Planets Book

Great pictures and quality construction of the book to last with young children!

Great book for my 5yo

I got this book since my son was crazy about black holes, just one page on that though.. the book overall is amazing with pictures and reading.

Awesome educational book that my grandchildren love.

My 4 grandchildren ages 4 through 6 love this book. I plan to order more! They have also ask for the books about dinosaurs and ocean animals. The book about planets is educational and the pictures are exceptional. I look forward to sharing the other books, in this set, with them. I am also a teacher and can’t wait to share these with the children in my classroom.

Great Pictures!

We bought this book as a Christmas gift for our 4 year old grandson. Although the content is very informative, we also used the book as a way to introduce him to the concept of the solar system, vocabulary, and to expand his mind about how we think about space today. Who would have guessed that Pluto is now a dwarf planet? It helps to get across the point that there is so much more to explore in just our solar system. It is his favorite book at present.

Great book - terrible binding

The FIRST TIME I bought this book I noticed many reviews mentioning the poor binding and pages falling out after a relatively short time, but the reviews of the book were very positive. My then 2-1/2 year old took to this book immediately and it ultimately led to a space-fascination (complete with planets hanging from his ceiling, a birthday party at a space museum, multiple trips to the planetarium, etc...). I will say he learned the names of the planets by heart simply by me reading to him and him "reading" it constantly thereafter. While he obviously doesn't read, he quickly learned every planet based on its first letter. He blew people away when after reciting every planet in order, stating which one's were rocky and which were gaseous and continued by reciting all of the "dwarf" planets, as well. He can also identify various nebula's based on their shape. We hobbled along by taping pages back into the book for almost a year as his space-phase seemed to gradually diminish. But sure enough, while going through his drawer his interest in the book was sparked again. This time he is more aware and thoroughly perturbed from the tape now failing and the pages once again falling out. He's almost 4 and as much as it aggravates me out of principal to have to buy it again, I like that it keeps his interest in reading. He even "pretends" to read aloud by reciting what he thinks the words say. I'm thankful in that sense, but it still is not a reason to distribute books with poorly made bindings as this one is - especially from National Geographic (come on, so many people have those old National Geographic books for decades - why wouldn't they use the same process?? lol). In summary - a great book to cultivate a toddlers interest but expect the pages to fall out within a few months of use. Sorry, but part of the review process is to take all aspects of the product into account and this major issue is a big deduct. NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. I notice many reviews lack helpful information, are not well written or give poor reviews based on not reading directions or failing to read the product details prior to purchasing. Writing valuable reviews helps pay it forward.

cool but dated

Fun astronomy primer for kids in 2nd-4th grade. The only ding is that it was published in 2012 and some material is dated (ie: this will occur in 2015…etc)

Planets

My grandson is 5 and he loves this book. He's interested in learning about the planets. I recomend the book.

Great books for children

Awesome book

my nephew loved it!

Amazing images, great quality, Fantastic educational material.

Awesome book, but falls apart

This book was EXACTLY what I was looking for... at first. My kids were 2 and 4 at the time and loved planets. They are 5 and 7 now, and still love the solar system. (I'm slow at writing reviews. Don't judge me.) The book has big pictures, clearly understood text, and is both fun to look at as well as informative. I love it! The kids love it! Everyone feels entertained and smart. However, it could not stand up to the force of young kids learning how to handle books. A torn page here or there is tragic, but understandable. A loose page or a broken binding happens. But this book has whole pages just floating around the house. At first I collected them, thinking I would somehow tape them back in. But more just kept falling out. Maybe we'll frame them for decor. But I'm hesitant to replace the book or to buy any others from the series.

Great planetary book

I sent this to my three year old Grandson. He loves it. He shared it with me on FaceTime. Great learning book. And very well made

Great for a little astronomer

This was a gift for a kid I work with. He loves it so I ain’t complaining

My grandkids loved it!

The grandkids love this book!

Great

We love this book to teach about the Planets and space it's very informative and fun to read and learn with this book.

Big book of fun!

My 4-year-old space enthusiast loves this book. We are on our third time of rereading it. The pictures are colorful and the quality is amazing.

Seemlessly introduces relatively advanced concepts in a visually engaging and satisfying way

My middle daughter took an interest in space very early, and was able to identify all the planets within the first few months of speech development. We've gone through three copies of this book, and I'd buy it ten more times if I had to. We bought it thinking that we should introduce some more advanced information since she showed such an interest, and this book nails it on every level. It contains a lot of up-to-date information, and taught mom and dad more than a few new tidbits of information about the solar system. The best part about it, though, is how it balances giving a bit more mature/advanced information while remaining very approachable because it's so visually engaging. As the title says, it's also a nice big book. The illustrations are large, and the size lets little people who are learning how to turn pages and interact with books work with their fine motor skills, and learn how to handle with a bit more finesse. It's also a great size to read with your little one on your lap, which is probably the best part. This book will grow well with your child, and you can't help but be a bit astonished when they start rattling off factoids to friends, family, and complete strangers, all to much fanfare. Of all the hundreds of books my children have had, this is their favorite. It's my favorite too.

So informative and easy to understand

Clear explanations; beautiful illustrations.

Awesome book for All Ages

I love this book! I have a 1.5 and a 4 year old. My four year old has language delay, and we love this book--he brought it to show and tell today. There is A LOT of GOOD information in this book. The photos are gorgeous, the information is so interesting for me to read about, my kid loves it (and can name all of the planets including the belts in our solar system). The first time I read to him, I was really loving all the info and he was listening quietly....I realized it is A LOT of information to take in. So now I read only part of it to him, and I feel like he'll grow into the book more. There are little bubbles/circles withe interesting facts about the topic that I read to him and we talk about what's on the page. We love it and I bought more of the Nat Geo Little Kid books, they're awesome for all ages truly (and even okay for different capabilities). Thank you, truly love these books!! We also got the Ocean one, and love that as well.

My 2 year old kid is inspired to become an Astronaut

better then expected

worth it for the photos alone my kid loves this book and he doesn't like most books

A Great book !

Love this book! My toddler is absolutely fascinated with Planets and Solar System, and this book had all that we were looking for to get him hooked. The pictures and the content are great and was ideal for him. He had a board book earlier which he loves and this book was a nice transition with more info for his little curious mind. He absolutely loves this book. Would recommend this for all space loving toddlers.

Awesome book for kids

My 5 year old came across one of these books at the library and was immediately hooked on the serious, he loves looking at the pictures and showing off how much he knows about the planets now. I've learned a couple tid bits myself. If you want educational and entertaining reading this is it.

Simple but still encyclopedic enough; breaks down subjects well with great photography

My inquisitive 6 year old asked for more space and solar system books after I read one to him and he was hooked. This is longer and more in-depth. May be more appropriate for older children at least 6+ or have experience reading other books related to the solar system. Not necessarily good as an introduction to the planets but for more advanced children.

Great First Book About Space

Great introduction to space! I have read this at least 4 times over since I got it over a few weeks ago along with some other NG Little Kids First Big Book series. My childs favorite out of the bunch. It has just enough general information with a lot of pictures to hook a child into the topic. She regurgitates the information to mom and grandparents like a know it all. So proud! Note that it is a bit dated with the different rover/orbiter/probe missions that have already come and gone which the book introduces as happening in the "future". But it's as expected as science continues to advance and progress.

Great Read

Loved the Book. Me and my 3 year old had a great time learning and reading about the Solar System.

Great for young learners!

This one knocked it out of the park. The illustrations are big, bright and colorful. The facts are clear and palatable to young kids. I bought this for my four year old and it’s been so much fun to learn with her!

Great buy!

This book is all that we hoped it would be and more. My five-year-old is crazy about space and he could read this book to himself all day. He loves reading it aloud to us and is now randomly spouting facts about space during regular conversation. I think it's perfect for an age range of 5-8 years old. The pictures are high quality and colorful. Information is well-organized with lots of tips and fun things on the side. The paper is also good quality and thick, so it's not easily bent by over-eager little hands. I also like that it creates asks reflective questions that reach out to the child on a personal level. For example, when teaching about orbit, it asks "How many times have you been around the sun? (Hint: how many years old are you?)" This kind of real life association is very helpful for getting children (or anyone, for that matter) to grasp new concepts. Update: We got this for my son a couple of months ago and he's still crazy about it. Normally the novelty would have worn off by now. Instead, he's asking for the other "LIttle Kid's First Big Books". And I'll be happy to indulge him now that I know how great they are!

Excellent Book

I bought this for my granddaughters 4th b-day. She already has beginners knowledge about each of the planets and some of the constellations. So I bought her a telescope with this book to augment the gift. I cannot wait to give it to her because she is going to be thrilled. The print is large, the words and explanations are very understandable and the pictures are dynamic. I anticipate that reading the book will make the actual viewing of the Stars and planets even more exciting. I consider this National Geographic for kids book a reference book that will be used for number of years to come. Now my almost 4 year old granddaughter and her 63 year old grandmother can learn together... LOL

Awesome pictures and full of new information!

I bought this book and the "First Big Book of Why" by National Geographic for my kindergartener who is starting to question how things work. I knew getting the NatGeo brand would be a good choice because it's a name that I grew up with too. This book has definitely exceeded my expectations! A lot of things have changed since the 1980's and 1990's in the space industry and I felt like I really didn't know enough current events to start talking to my daughter about them. This book has information on the solar system, and includes all new information about dwarf planets (I think there were three or four mentioned), and other bodies in our solar system like asteroids and comets. And the pictures in this book are gorgeous! I like how each topic has its own main points and then there are side notes to explain added information. You could skip over the side notes and still get a thorough chunk of information, or you could go over all of the points and have an increased understanding of our world. This is such an awesome book! I love learning all of the new information alongside my daughter.

Great Books for Good Price

My grandchildren (ages 5 and 3) really enjoy these NG books, which they can look at even though they cannot yet read all of the text. They all have large text for easy reading, great color pictures on nearly every page, and the all have a Glossary, Index, and Parent tips in the back of the book. I purchased the Big Book of Space (sample page in photo), the Big Book of How and the Big Book of Why. They all cover a range of topics, and none are too technical for young kids. Great Books!

I'd rate it "gibbous," but people who don't already have it might not understand

I have been asked to read this book approximately 176,000 times since receiving for my 3-year-old son. Overall, the content is good. They deftly straddle the Pluto-lovers vs. deGrasse-Tysonites planetary nomenclature struggle: objectively framing the Tysonites as correct without allowing them too much gloating, thus avoiding complete alienation of the Pluto-lovers. Really, if it’s that important to you either way, rumble in observatory back parking lot during the next planetary conjunction to settle it once and for all. Otherwise, just let us talk about our space-things without too much judgment of our character. Anyway, back to the book. The pictures are clear and printed well, and artwork is interesting without being comical. There are some annoying inaccuracies I have to correct mid-flight. For example (pg. 14) orbits are ellipses not circles and (pg. 10) I don’t know on what planet the sun sets as the moon rises next to it but according to everything I’ve been taught everywhere except pg. 10 of this book it’s not Earth. I also end up skipping the open-ended New Math-style questions like “If you could name a moon, what would you call it?” as well as the age-appropriateness dissonant “Can you count to 27?” questions. It’s also looking like the binding will give out around 10^6 readings, but that’s still pretty solid in my mind for the price.

Little sister loves this book!

My little sister loves this book! Soon as she got it she couldn’t stop turning the pages, she’s only 3 but she loves the big pictures and colors. She’s very imaginative and loves space so she’s been enjoying the book for the past couple months she’s had it! Definitely recommend ☺️

She loved it!

The little lady I gave it to love it! Was great to see the smile on her face and to see her absorbing the information. This gift came about when she asked me how big the sun was in church over a year ago. I tried to explain but saw this book and got it for her. It is so wonderful seeing children learning new things. Sorry it took so long for me to write a review.

One of the best books I ever bought for my kids

It is not overly simplified, yet easy to understand even for a 3 and 5 year old. Bravo to the author.

Best books! Engage kids. Pictures & content so well done! BUT pages fall out.

Hands down one of the best books for your space-loving kid (or self). We have multiple of the National Geographic Kids books, and I couldn't praise them enough. The photographs are vibrant, awe-inspiring, and everything you would expect from National Geographic. We love: - how engaging these books are!!! - information is just right. Not too much. - not overly textbook or boring - amazing photographs and graphics - my kids absorbs the information and have practically memorized it all because this book is so well done HOWEVER, We do not love: - The binding is faulty and the pages eventually detach and fall out over time. We keep taping them back in. This has happened with multiple of these books, and it is frustrating. And this is with gentle use. We expect more from National Geographic and hope they remedy this.

My son's new favorite book

He can't stop talking about the volcano covered moons of Jupiter. He's four!

Great Book

Purchased this for my 6 year old grandson who lives space. The pictures in the book are great and he has memorized all the planets and order. It’s his go to for drawing the planets. Also it’s not too “wordy” for his age.

Great book for furthering little kids love of space

My oldest loves outer space with the fire of a thousand sun's. He also loves this book. Naming all the planets, dwarfs, so many of the moons and other "neighbors" for earth. My not quite 6 year old has counted this as a favorite and frequent go to (we banned it as a bedtime book) for several years now. I would prefer thicker or tougher pages; it is geared for little kids. He did fine, but little brother is wreaking havoc on the pages.

Good, but dated.

I got this book for my 5-year-old but I feel that it was written for a slightly younger crowd. There's lots of information if your little one is just getting into the whole space thing but if they already know about dwarf planets and highlights of each planet, then I'd say you should look for a different book. Also, some of the information is dated such as which spacecrafts are still active.

They haven't fixed the binding issues.

My 4 year old is currently fascinated by space and loves this book. He's constantly looking at the pictures and picking this book as his bedtime story. Unfortunately, it seems that they haven't fixed the issues with the poor binding. We've had this book for about 3 weeks and I'm already taping pages back in it. Any kid who likes space will love this book, and it really does teach them a lot in terms they can understand. Just be prepared for it to fall apart.

Great for preschoolers and early elementary

I got this for my 5 year old who is just getting interested in space and he loves it! He found the first chapter a bit boring (viewing stars and planets from Earth, how the Earth’s orbit affects night/day and seasons, etc). But he loved the rest of the book — each planet has 4 pages devoted to it, and there are additional pages on other space objects like dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, nebulas, etc. Most illustrations are realistic drawings, but a few are photos taken by telescopes and probes. For each planet, things like size, terrain/atmosphere, temperature, moons, satellites/probes sent to the planet (up through 2016-2017!), etc are discussed. He was interested in this book enough that we could read nearly all the text without getting bored. (He is not yet reading but listened to me read it all.) For younger kids or kids not as interested in space, you could simply name each planet/object and maybe read a few facts from the text.

Fantastic book for kids with an interest in space - even for toddlers and young preschoolers

At about 2 1/2 years old, my son started taking a great interest in outer space, and had located my old astronomy textbooks from college. These became the regular nap and bedtime "story". Given that some of the information in the texts were outdated (without specifying years, I will say that Pluto was still a planet and there had been no talk of "dwarf planets"), and it was a bit wordy and technical, we looked for something that was more in his age range, and stumbled across this book. Recalling that my favorite space book as a child was a copy of National Geographic's "Our Universe" that my parents had, combined with the great reviews this book already had, I choose to get this book. My son ADORES it, and for a long while after purchasing it, he was pulling it out to show every new person he could. He loves looking at the pictures, and has absorbed A LOT of the information in the book. The book is recommended for 4-8 year olds, but younger children with an interest can certainly get a lot out of this book just in terms of the pictures and short factoids.

Wish I could give this book 10 stars!!

My 5 year old son is totally infatuated with space. He wants his 6th birthday to be a space adventure where all of his friends and family go to space to celebrate with him (smile). While we can't do that, I have gone on a quest to buy him as many resources about space as possible. This book is very big. It is wonderfully vibrant, with amazing imagery. The write ups are easy enough for him to understand and articulate back to us after he reads them. The book contains a wealth of knowledge about aspects of the solar system I didn't know existed, so it becomes a tool for us to learn together. We use the book as a starting point to search YouTube for videos. It is one of his favorite night time reading books, and he even runs around the house with it showing new and amazing things to anyone who will listen. It is a joy to watch him grow in his knowledge and appreciation for space exploration. If I could give this book 10 stars I would.

Amazing book. Recently purchased several books for my barely ...

Amazing book. Recently purchased several books for my barely three-year-old grand-daughter. They ranged from a book only about the planets with whimsical paintings - where we had to guess which depiction was meant to be 'earth'...to simple board books about the solar system. This one is a good fit for her to grow into. After a few readings through by all of us she built a solar system out of blocks. She told us all about the inner rocky planets and the gas giants and there were a bunch of dwarf planets on the other side of the room. I am focusing on National Geographic products whether DVDs or books and magazines. My dad had a decades old subscription to the original National Geographic magazine. My son carries on with this. We had a budding astronaut for Halloween dress-up. Before bed-time recently we had to look up what made comets different from shooting stars. Excellent assistance.

Get Kids Interested in Space

I bought this for my 4 year old Grandson who expressed an interest in the planets after I sent him a postcard from the Kennedy Space Center. It has great photos and explains some interesting basic ideas about the solar system. We would read a chapter or 2 each night depending on his attention span. He enjoyed the photos and asked a lot of questions. The book is a good way to get them interested in what they see in the sky...

Worth for the money 💵

Very good for kids

Gorgeous photos! Best of 4 Space books I bought.

My 5 year old grandson is crazy about the solar system so I ordered several books. This is the most wonderful nonfiction book! It is full of amazing photos and written well. I am a retired teacher and I know little boys love nonfiction books with beautiful photos. This is the quality of book you would find in the school library. I love books, myself, and consider this a treasure! The last 3 times he has been here he has grabbed this book. I read it to him (over 100 pages) the first 2 visits. I think this book would be good for kids possibly through 5th grade. I also bought Usborne's Look inside Space, Solar System for Kids, and The Planets in Our Solar System, but could have just bought this one. This is by far my favorite and I will order more in this series.

Great value

For the money, you get a lot of book. Not a lot of words in each page, but it's appropriate for the intended age of the reader. The book has a really nice hard cover to protect it, so it looks like it should last a long time even with the abuse from the kids. My son is really into science and the book is interesting enough that he's been picking it up and reading on his own without supervision. I'd recommend.

Great first reference guide

This is a great first reference book for kids. There's a table of contents, a glossary, and an index to offer a way to teach young children how to find information. It is also filled with vibrant illustrations.

Beautiful book,I know my kids are going to love it.

I'm so excited to use this book as part of our solar system unit study. The pictures are bright and vibrant, there's a ton of information, I even learned a few things just from flipping through it. I know my kids are going to love it.

Very informative

Our 5 year old grandson is fascinated with the planets and outer space. He loves this book and has memorized all the names of the planets and their moons along with their order from the sun. He had another book which got him started but this one really gives lots of details and pictures. He loves it and it's fun to see him get so excited.

NG Little Kids First Big Books

As of this writing, there are four of these books (Dinosaurs, Space, Animals, and Why). All four of them are awesome. Very well done books with great photography/art (what else would you expect from NG?). They have great information and are by far the best educational tools in my 5 year boy's library. He LOVES these book. He got them a year ago when he turned 4. In the beginning, he mostly just enjoyed the beautiful pictures of things we had already been talking about. One year later (just turned 5), it is also about the words and graphics. He is hungry for and absorbing the details with remarkable efficacy. At only $10/book (Amazon price), they are just as cheap as many other children's books that are only good for a couple of readings. These are worth so much more. I keep checking Amazon to see what new books may be in the pipeline (if any). NG, if you're listening, how about one on the Ocean(s), or on the Arctic/Antartic, or on the Weather? We can't wait!

Love this book

Super happy with this book. My son loves it and so do I. It’s written so well- so clearly and easy to understand for a little one. We’re getting a lot out of it. Very educational. I know there’s been complaints about the binding and I can see that possibly being an issue down the line but I still think the book is worth it. Handle it gently.

I got lucky when I bought this for my oldest granddaughter....

.... had it drop shipped to my granddaughter and as soon as she received it her Momma called me to inform me that this was one of her favorite books and that she had checked it out several times at school. She was missing the book because of Cornavirus lockdown. Problem solved, I guessed correctly and got lucky but if my 8 year old granddaughter loves this book that much then it must be good.

Great for 3+

My 3 year old grandson loves this book… spends time everyday looking at it and carries it everywhere he goes.

GREAT BOOK FOR KIDS....AND ADULTS!

Why did I get this book. The other day watching a game show, we were astonished to find out that the answer to the question "how many planets are there?" was 13! Wow, both my husband and I had heard that the planet "Pluto" was not considered a planet anymore but really...I couldn't figure out where in the heck we were not knowing that now there are 13 planets??? I went online and came across this National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Space. I ordered it for my grandsons but instead of sending it to them directly, I had them delivered it to my home first. Book is great for both grandchildren AND grandparents. It told the differences between terrestrial, dwarf, and gas planets. Not only does this book answer all your questions but gives you different facts and insights on each planet. Great color pictures, both my husband sat down and read this book from cover to cover before sending it on to our grandsons. Not to forget our granddaughter...we ordered one for her too.!!!

I would give this 10 stars if I could

Right now my 6 year old is obsessed with space. The content in this book is amazing for his age there is a good amount of pictures vs reading. He is a fluent reader and was beyond excited when he got this as a birthday present. If your kid likes space dont wait anymore. I got several books from nat geo they are all amazing.

Best Book About Space for Kids

The solar system is so much fun. There is so much to teach and learn that making it child friendly can be difficult. This book however really takes a great approach. The pages are all filled with hi-res photographs of varying to do with space. From the planets and moons to rovers, each page is filled with amazing facts and information. What I really like is that although this book is content filled, it is straight to the point and not to much extras to overwhelm the kids. It is the prefect amount of information to teach the kids great facts about space giving them the tools to go on for more. I love this book. The images are large and clear and the kids love pointing to the images and learning more. They can really learn everything about the planets and space in a fun book catered toward children.

My 3 Year Old Loves Space Thanks To This Book!

My 3 year old is absolutely obsessed with space thanks to the book. Every day he flips through the pages and talks to me about all the characteristics of each planet. He won’t go to bed until he gets to outside to see what phase the moon is in. Best investment ever!

Best book for kiddos about space

My son likes it and we have to tape it on multiple pages to keep it going fir over 4years and still his favorite

If the binding is better it will be 5 stars

It's a very informative book and such a great deal for this price. My kiddo loves it. But the binding is horrible. Only after a few reads the pages started to come off crazily. And now the whole book is scattered.

Space junkie

Sooooo good!! I’m a 6th grade science teacher and love all things space. I bought this for my six year old and we both are enjoying it equally!! Must buy

Great overview

This book is a great first resource for young readers that are obsessed with all things space!

Great book for kiddos who are into space!

My daughter is 4.5 and absolutely loves this book. She learns a lot and loves to talk about what we’ve read. She is so excited to tell us facts that she has remembered from the book!

Excellent book for kids

I read this to my 6-year-old son. He is really into space and the objects within, so I bought this book for him for Christmas. He really likes the book, which is full of bright colors and photos. The information it contains is easy enough for kids to understand, though sometimes you may need to provide additional explanations when they ask 150 questions, as kids tend to do.

Must have for little ones!

GREAT BOOK! My daughter loved it

Excellent book, very nice pics and info. The only issues are: binding is faulty, and the pages detach over time. After it was completely destroyed we had to buy it again, as I said, my daughter loved it, so she kept asking about her Planets Book.

They lose interest in things very quickly like most kids do

I bought this book last year and my kids are still reading it. They lose interest in things very quickly like most kids do, but for some reason they keep coming back to this one. My 8 year old basically has it memorized. It's bright, colorful, and organized very well. I think it provides great information at a level that is easy for them to understand. It has also held up really well to how much the kids use it - so far there are no tears, no worn out corners or anything (I got the hard cover). I just purchased more National Geographic kids books because of how much they loved this one. Great buy!

Great kids book, and some learning for gown-ups, too!

My 3-yr-old is super into space right now. This book is great. There are great pictures and the words to picture ratio is great for little kids. It would be way too much for my daughter to read in one sitting (or even a handful), but we can read the chapter on the solar system (over and over) for now, and then the section on the moon, and then some of the other bits (astronauts and astronomers, etc). I expect that we'll be able to get a few good years of use out of it. And my husband and I are learning new things, too -- I had no idea Ceres was a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt.

Great for little readers with some help

My 5 year old loves this book. It has cool photos and just the right level of detail. He really likes the notes about how long it would take to drive to each planet.

Informative with beautiful pictures.

This book is great for elementary age children. The pictures are beautiful and the text is simple but informative. I used this with a 7 year old and 9 year old to explore and learn about space. I’m a retired 8th grade science teacher and would highly recommend this book.

A great book for kids!

My 6 year old grandson is fascinated with planes, helicopters, and spacecraft. He wanted a book about space and space exploration. I bought him this book and he loves it. There are pictures on every page, lots of facts and figures. He loves this book!

its great we love it

I almost ordered the book from my sons scholastic book form but it was cheaper here so I bought from amazon instead. We've only read the first few chapters so far, with well over 100 pages there is a LOT of info inside! My son is 5.5 yrs old and he loves the book so far. We learned that over a million earths fit inside the sun (we had actually been wondering how big the sun was in relation to the earth) - he had already learned somewhere else that 1000 earths fit inside Jupiter! With all the other garbage books out there these days this was a refreshing relief and was glad I did good with this purchase! The graphics are beautiful and quality of pages nice. Love that he is actually learning a lot from the book (as well as me!) If this is this a series I will definitely be checking out the other books too.

Great as introduction to SPACE, not as much emphasis on the planets as my son needed.

My 7 year old son had a project to do for 2nd grade. He had to pick a planet and list 10 facts about that planet. Unfortunately, he wanted to do Pluto, which was considered a planet when I went to school, but now there is question as to whether it's actually a planet...but his teacher said she had already been asked if they could use Pluto and she had agreed. This book was great as a first time, beginners book about space, but he could not find 10 interesting facts about any one planet to present on his homework. If you are looking for a book that covers planets, comets, asteroids, etc in not too much detail this is great.

Lays the groundwork of space knowledge

This book is such a wonderful introduction to space for the little mind. No, its not all inclusive, how could it be? It has just the tip of the iceberg across a vast amount of subject matter. Its just enough to get a little mind churning and asking questions without content overload. The pictures are vibrant and the book is sturdy. I have read this to my 5 year old several times (he asks for it) and have given it to his friends as bday gifts at his request. Now that he's been introduced to several topics in the book we have gone on to research various events and topics online, through NASA and other noteworthy sites. I highly recommend this, and all the books in the series.

If your child likes space he'll love this one

I got this for my grandson & he loved it he was only 3 so he tore It so I got him a hard cover one About space but he liked this one best.

Good

Good book and the quality

My nephew went crazy over this book!

Got this for my nephew on his 8th birthday along with a stomp rocket set, thinking that as he saw the rockets fly up in the air, maybe it might inspire him to want to learn about space. Well..... it was the other way around! As soon as he saw the full color images and the way the text was arranged for more informative and engaging reading, he devoured the book - reading up to page 35 on the first day - and was then inspired to go out and pretend his rocket was visiting the planets he'd just read about :) We will be buying more NatGeo Kids books for Christmas and are considering subscribing him to the monthly magazine if the photos, language and formatting are similar to what we've seen in this book. AWESOME book!!! I am definitely telling others about this amazing resource - perfect for 8 year olds!

5 year old loves it

Perfect for our five year old. Took along on a road trip and was a good alternative to a tablet when our daughter got bored.

Perfect Book & Art for Space Study

This is a detailed space book. Adults and older children can learn from this. Scientific information is a little advanced for my 5 year old Granddaughter, but she will grow into it.

Good content, poor construction.

Vibrant colors, excellent pictures, good for a variety of ages. Content of the book is great, with the exception of some things being a bit outdated - for example, there are several references to dates like the year 2017 being in the future. My bigger issue is that the binding of the book is poorly constructed. Several pages have fallen out, and it’s only a matter of time until the entire thing falls apart. We take very good care of our books and even though we have read at least a few pages of it literally every day for the past 3 months, I still see no reason for this to happen.

Wonderful book

It is a great book for the little one who is interested in space and

Don't hesitate

My daughter who is just turned 3 but received this when she was 2 loves this book. There is a lot information (busy pages) but the pictures are gorgeous. She goes through and names all the planets and I try to read some of the fun facts before she turns the pages. Even though it states it's appropriate for an older age, I think as young as 2 could benefit from this book like my daughter. I don't like putting limits on learning and if I bought things based on"appropriate" age my daughter would have missed out. Don't hesitate to buy. A child can always grow into books. Books are wonderful.

Awesome for 5-yr-old

My 5-year-old Grandson Loves this book, as in every night or as many times as someone will read to him. He’s had it since his birthday in March, and it’s almost Christmas - About 9 months.

Excellent Book!

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my seven year old nephew. He had already received more then a few wonderful presents, but when he took out this book along with "Little Kids First Big Book of Why" that was it! He had someone reading to him for the next few hours and he was looking up additional facts and information on google. He quizzed the rest of the family on the new information all through Christmas dinner so we all learned some new science facts. This book is excellent. The information is easy to understand and the pictures are terrific. These are large books, they are large size and they have a lot of pages. This book is an excellent value.

Love it!

This book exceeded my expectation! My four-year-old granddaughter absolutely loves it and it is a great resource for our homeschool. The photography is amazing and the format is simple yet informative!

Good buy

Beautiful book, very colorful pictures great quality, great buy! My 5 year old loves it!

Great info for little space lovers!

My 5 year old buddy LOVES this book. Lots of detailed information in explained in ways that he can understand. We’re both delighted.

Beautiful illustrations, could be a little spooky

This book is gorgeous and the illustration in it are amazing. I would skip the last chapters with kids under the age of... say 8. It's too hard to graps other galaxies and objects so far away... black hole and stuff. Too scary.

Toddler approved!

My toddler recently became very interested in planets and space. This was the perfect book to help her learn more. The content and pictures are great. Good quality, highly recommend!

Great Introduction to Space

All of my kids, ages 2-9 LOVED this book. It says it is for "little kids" but we all learned some very interesting facts from this book. My older kids sort of laughed at the info in the first pages, but as it went on they were totally engaged. I only read about 5-6 pages a day to help them retain the information but they were always asking for more. I am so glad I bought this book! It even has some fun suggestions in the back of things you can do with your kids to engage them in learning about space. Highly recommend this book!

Great Gift

Gave it to my 5yo Grandson for his Birthday. He and his Dad were playing with it outside at night. The planes glow in the dark and go up pretty high. It was a hit as a gift and a educational too!

Our preschoolers' favorite book

We own hundreds of books for our 3 and 2 year old, but this book is the best book we have. They are both FASCINATED with the solar system and the planets thanks to this awesome book! Our 2 year old is constantly singing and making up stories about the 13 planets (and he of course knows all 13 of their names by heart and also the names of their biggest moons) all the while insisting we actually live on Neptune rather than Earth. They both love books, but no other book in our collection has made such an impact on their daily lives as this one.

Best Book Ever

I bought this book for my 4 year old son's Birthday present, and it does not disappoint! He is so enthralled with space and this book, in fact it is the number 1 gift of his choice. He is carrying it around the house non-stop! He received it on August 1st, and today is the 14th and still no change in his daily pick. I 100% recommend this book for ANY child! The pictures are beautiful and capture the attention of all three of my kids, including my 18 month old daughter, and 4 and 6 year old boys. I will continue adding to the collection with the rest of the National Geographic Kids books!

Great gift

My 2 year old nephew LOVES this book. Durable and great for little learning minds

Great Book for Space Loving Kids

Another great Nat Geo book for little kids. This is the second I’ve purchased for my daughter because she recently became interested in space. I love the full color illustrations and fun presentation of information. I’m a teacher and I approve!

Love it!

We love the National Geographic kids series! The books are engaging and filled with so much information. We purchased this and paired it with the sticker book and I have no complaints. Such a great activity and affordable too!

Fun educational book on space

This is a very educational and exciting book. My 7 year old twin grandkids love it and then read it to their little brother. They love to videochat with me and read their books to me since I cant be with them thanks to Covid

Love

Love this book. It is amazing and my son who is 4 loves! He has learned so much

Fantastic for young and old!

It’s really great! Good for kids but I wanted to buy another one for me— gave to 5 yr old grandson. I learned more from this book than in all of my interest in space for 69 Yrs!!

Perfect intro about Space for a young learner!

My 5 year old granddaughter is very interested in Space so this book is perfect!! Colored illustrations and developmentally appropriate text for a young learner! She loves this book!

excellent

excellent book for my son. he loves it

Fun, Facts, and Great Color Photos

My daughter loves National Geographics the “Kids First Book Of” collection she has everyone that we could find. She loves to learn. These books provide great facts while still keeping young children’s attention. I and my daughter usually read a section a night together. I highly recommend!

Perfect for kids!

My 8 year old grand daughter is OBSESSED with anything space! This was an easy read, yet informative. Thank you National Geographic!

sharing

The recipient loved it and his older sister borrowed it...after parents explained the concept of SHARING. Two for the price of one! Good for ages 6 to 14? Seems so.

My 4 year old son loves it!

My 4 year old son absolutely loves it! This is a great book for Pre K kids in terms of content and also to pique their I interest towards astronomy. It talks about the solar system , asteroids , galaxies , space shuttles , space exploration. I would recommend buying it for your pre schoolers!

Hard cover that makes it easy for them to turn !

This book is absolutely beautiful! Big pictures and a abundance of information all through the colorful pages ! Very very pleased with this product ! My 4 year old grandson will love exploring all about space!

Great book for young kids!

A great book for kids who are interested in learning more about space and the planets. The book makes it easy and fun, for kids to understand exactly what they are learning about, and there are great pictures to go along and help with learning as well.

Future Astronaut...

for our future astronaut who is 4 1/2 years young! I almost believe him, when he says he is going to be an Astronaut. He is so into the Solar System. He promised to take Grandma on his very first journey. This book is perfect for our young Astronaut!!!

Good for VERY Young Child

Great book for very young child. Nothing against the book, but it should be explained, this is more appropriate for a very young child. Really mostly gives one page information on complex topics. My child is only 6, but it left a lot of info out that could have made it interesting. I just wasn't prepared for how much it glossed over almost everything. If your child is very young, or really has NO concept of the solar sytem etc., it would be a good place to start. Stephen and Lucy Hawking have written children's books about Space and they are chapter books, I must read them to 6 year old. Some of the material is a little complex, which is why when they are old enough to read them solo, it will be better understood, but even at 6, MOST of it is understood and it is FAR more informative. Just wanted to let people know. I did use the Look Inside feature, but it didn't really prepare me for what the book was really like.

Recommend this book for kids that love space and planets

My daughter (age 3) loves this book. She likes to name the planets, talk about what's in space and use the book along with a sky view app (unrelated to the book) to find the planets she sees in the book in the sky. Great learning book and so much fun for her.

An opportunity learning fixation and additions creativity ideas in future.

An Autism nephew loves it. I visited and saw my nephew carries around the house indoor and outdoor several times. It’s great an opportunity learning fixations and additions creativity ideas.

Awesome book!

Ordered this book for my 5 year old for Christmas. He is obsessed with learning about outer space and the planets and he absolutely loves this book! The pictures and pages are bright and vibrant, and the words are nice and big for him to follow along. Great purchase!

Excellent kid's space book

An excellent young child's space book. Has lots of big, colorful illustrations (most are photo-realistic enough that, as far as a child is concerned, they're basically photographs). Though the focus is on the solar system (the sun, 8 planets, and 5 dwarf planets), it also covers other astronomical phenomena (e.g., nebulae). I especially appreciate the illustrations of the planets to scale with one another (there's nothing that shows the scale of the distances *between* the planets, though I understand why that would be omitted). My daughter got it when she was 4 and it's held her attention well. Probably not ideal for older kids (where I would recommend

Great book

We took a week over the summer to learn about space at home, this book was a great way to read about space that week! I would say older kids would benefit the most from it, but my son is 4 and loved the pictures and listening to me read it.

Niece *LOVES* this book...

This book is a huge hit with my 5.5 year old niece who was already in love w/ all things "space." According to her parents, she looks / reads it every single day, and is learning a lot. I'm stoked and hope to have the same effect with the other nat'l geographic "kids first big book of..." series. I also had a chance to read it in person before bringing it over to her and was impressed by the graphics and the content. Great job putting a book together in a way that is substantive / semi-serious, but so so fun and interesting for kids, too.

Toddler’s favorite book

My two-year old loves this book. We read and flip through it every night. I have the only two year old in the neighborhood who tells strangers about space probes on Saturn and storms on Jupiter.

Simple info with great pictures

My 4 yr old grandson became interested in the moon so I bought him this book for hie birthday. He loves it and knows all the cycles of the moon and has learned all the planets. Best book on space for children I have seen.

We love and own this entire series, and Space is a favorite!

Stunning pictures, great introduction to our solar system and space, 5 and 6 year-olds are enthralled by this book, would recommend as young as 4 years-old, and will be appropriate throughout elementary school, perhaps beyond. I've read and owned many books about space, and I still learned something. Everything is covered, but nothing is delved in too deeply. Chapters: Looking up from Earth Earth's neighborhood Earth's other neighbors Far, far away Exploring Space Solar System Map Parent Tips (activities) Glossary

Perfect 4 year old Book

My 4-year-old has recently gotten into learning about space, this book is perfect for her. Wonderful pictures. Great parent bonding time while reading fun facts to them.

Great buy!

Seen someone at my local mall buy this for $15. I instantly knew I got it for a great deal. Got it as a gift and they loved it! Going to get one for my child who is now interested in the solar system!!

It was a hit with the grand kids

This was a gift.

Good

Good first book of space for kids.

Another fav for our 3-year old son!

My son of 3 years absolutely loves this book! Honestly, all the Kids NatGeo books are amazing. I would definitely recommend this one for sure if your kiddo is excited about space. Or even if they don't seem to be excited about it, try it out! Our son now asks more questions about the sun, moon, and planets than he ever did before this book which is such a cool thing to hear as a parent.

Wonderful information...even for a four year old

The photos and information in this National Graphic book is just right for my 4 year old grandson, He knows rhe order of the planets and special information about their moons, thanks to this book. Just wish it included Pluto as a planet, Actual photos of the planets and their relative size to each other is explained, pictures are beautiful!

Amazing

My nephew is really into science. The pictures in this book are amazing. He is seven so he will need some help reading the scientific words but that’s ok. I can’t wait to read them with him and get some of the other books to complete the set.

My son loves it

Kids just love this book

Excellent for children interested in space

The great grandson received three of these books for Christmas ( we will need to coordinate btr next year) but he decided instead of returning two, he would keep one at home & one at each of grandparents’ houses. He absolutely loved the book.

Outerspace

I have introduced the book to my 4 year old grandson. He wanted an astronaut and this book is great to put the two together.

Awesome pictures and great info. Just enough for my 3 year old to digest.

Bought this book for my 3 year old who fell in love with the planets at day care. She came home one day telling me every planet in order and I knew I had to get her this book. She loves to lay down and look at the pictures and tell me what she knows about each planet. The pictures have great detail and just the right amount of information on each topic.

Great book for curious kids

My kid love this book and he is so much interested in space and solar system

Great pictures for young children

6yr old son loves it.

Discovery fun

My granddaughter looks at this book then goes too the telescope!

Kids love it

The children like it very much and let them know about space.

Great Photos and Information

Excellent book! Beautiful photographs! Age appropriate text for ages 4-8. Older kids would probably enjoy as well.

Excellent content but pages come off

The content and illustration in the book are excellent. My 3 year-old loved it. However, the pages come off the book very easily. Not suitable for the handling that a child would give to a book. 3yo was as gentle as a careful young child could be and the pages were still coming off. The book is intended for children. It should be built it so that it stands the use of actual children. But it isn't.

Good read for 4 years old!

Good read for 4 years old.

A must have

My 3 and 5 year olds favorite book. We've learned so much.

Awesome we love it!

Awesome book! Bought it for my son whos interested in the solar system (his 3) and his loving it so far!! I'm very happy with it !

POOR BINDING

PAGES ARE FALLING APART.PLEASE SEND A REPLACEMENT AND ENSURE THAT FUTURE BOOKS ARE MORE SECURELY BOUND

Perfect for all age group

We bought this book for our 3 year old as he is very interested in Solar System. He loves this book and so do we. My 9 year old nephew also loved this book.

Awesome book series

These books are awesome!!! I homeschool my son and was looking for books like these!! They are awesome!! I will definitely be ordering more in the series. We love National Geographic!!!

Great for nurturing space interest

The book looks great. Lots of pictures and lots of information. My son has been getting more interested in space. I'm hoping this will help nurture that interest further. This will also be a Christmas gift for him. Very pleased with this purchase!

Perfect for my 4.5 year old and my 6 year old nephew!

My son is fascinated by this book. He loves everything about space, and this is super appropriate for his age. He is currently 4 and 1/2 years old. I would say it would be great for older kids too, probably up to 8. I bought one for my 6 year old nephew as well and he loves it too. We have borrowed many space books from the library but this one is the best of all because of all of the graphics and pictures, along with appropriate amounts of information for little people.

Introduction to space, but centered on the solar system

This book starts on earth and then moves out through the solar system. There is a smaller section at end that moves beyond the solar system. Its focus on nearer space isn't necessarily bad, but something to be aware of. It is well illustrated with both photos and drawings. The text is simple but informative. The layout is a bit cluttered for my taste, I think it can be distracting at places. One little nit is that it refers to the earth rotating at 1000 miles per second. That is only true at the equator. Overall I think this book should nurture a younger child's interest in space.

Great book for kids into space!

Great book! Great pictures!

Great first book about space!!!

My 4.5 yo grandson LOVES this book. Any kid that likes the solar system, stars, etc will too. It's great!

Excellent!

Excellent book, great pics and kept my 6 yr old grandson's interest for a long time. I would highly recommend the books in this series, very informative and I even learned a thing or two!

Great find

I bought this for my step daughter who is in first grade. She loved it so much she read it twice. Easy and interesting!

Crap binding..but good book..

Good book..great for various ages..unfortunately like others have said..the binding is crap..which sucks cus my son really likes it..right now I've taped it up..idk how long it'll lay..n would-be expected better from such a big company

Perfect gift!

Our 6 yr old granddaughter loved it! After a field trip to the planetarium she’s fascinated with anything space. This book has lots of brightly colored pictures, is easily read, and a good size for her to handle.

Good content

Good content and easy read for my first grader. Was not impressed with the way it arrived.

The best!

This book is a jewel. National Geographic rules! I love this book and my 6 years old grand daughter too. Excellent quality.

National Geographic space book

My 4 year old grandson loves space and this book is perfect. He knows all the planets and loves the bright photos. Thank you!

great graphics and very educational

Ordered this for my grandson who has taken a special interest in planets and the galaxy. He was super excited and loves learning new things about the planets!

Good quality contents in the book !

Wow ! Very informative in a kid’s way. Simple facts interestingly illustrated. Pictures are good. Page quality is good too.

Tons of info

My 6 year old loves it. A bit advanced with tons of info but put in a kid friendly way. I even learned new things. Deff recommend for any kids who love space science

Nice gift for a little space lover

Bought this as a gift for a 5 year olds birthday present. He is very interested in space and reading. He loved it. I got a great reaction when he opened it. A nice high pitched scream. I flipped through the book. Very colorful and lots of easy reading, but someone will have to read it with him until he gets a little more advanced with his reading skills.

My 2 year old loves it

I don’t think I need to go into too much detail. My two year old knows all the planets, in order, without help because of this book. It blows my mind just how sharp a baby can be with a hand from a book like this and regular reading and talking/pointing!

A little over priced

This is a neat product but the globe is just a globe without any words on it. You have to use the app to see names of places & oceans. The animals on the app are difficult to see because they are mostly seen as if you are looking down on them from above. It takes a little skill in order to use an Ipad to see the objects. My grandson is 8 and he needed adult assistance to use this.

Great pictures.

My 4 year old just loves reading about planets and this book is perfect with very nice pictures. Its our everyday book to read. 😀

Hardback book is very colorful and attractive to young non-readers

Great gift!

Absolutely Incredible!

This book is absolutely beautiful! My 3 year old son cannot get enough of it. It is jist very well put together and organized and in the back of the bookare addinitional parent tips and activities! Just incredible! We love it so much we also ordered the dinosaur book from this collection!

Just right for the little ones

Got for a birthday gift. It is bright and fun and uses words they can understand.

Why is the book falling apart?!?!???

Love the content love the illustrations, but why is the binding so junk? As my kids flip through the pages they just keep falling out, I have to tape the pages one by one just to keep them inside the cover. VERY frustrating!!!!!!!! 😡

Great book for kids and fun for adults too!!!

This book is amazing! As an adult I’m learning stuff too as my 4 year old stays very engaged as well!!

What an Amazing Book!!!

My 5 year old son is learning all about the planets and I decided to find him a book that would guide him through the process. After doing some research, I found this book to be the best that would fit my needs. Oh my, I am reading this book with my son, and I should say how much WE enjoy reading and looking at the pictures. As I have forgotten a lot of this myself, I learned a great deal from this book. Not just it's so informative and covers all the main points and beyond, but the illustrations are top notch, so real, and .....anyway, I would definitely recommend this book to anybody for any age :)

I got the book, but you left it at my neighbors door...not mine. I gave you 5 stars anyway

You left my package at my neighbors door, but I like the book so I gave you 5 stars anyway. You need to be careful the picture you of delivering my package, was my neighbors door.

Nice book

My 2 year old daughter went through a space phase where she was learning the planets. This book along with another really helped her. This book has awesome pictures and facts that even I didn’t know. She doesn’t pick it up as much anymore but I’m keeping it around for when she gets older and can understand the book more in-depth.

Pretty

Very interesting and beautiful pictures

Full of Great Facts

I bought this for my five year old daughter, who was asking for a book about space. Even my husband is impressed by the amount of information that the book contains and the way the book explains everything to a child. The illustrations are beautiful and the book is visually appealing. This is hands down my daughter's favorite book about space and she has a few!

It is now by far his favorite book. We read it almost every night

This was a Xmas gift for my 4yo son. He had never been into planets or outer space before. It is now by far his favorite book. We read it almost every night. The text puts a heavy emphasis on the various NASA missions that have sent probes to the planets and moons, which seems a bit odd, but he doesn't care. The pictures are great and he has learned a lot, though he gets confused when we read older space books that still list Pluto as a planet! If your kid is into space I'd recommend this book.
