National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Birds (National Geographic Little Kids First Big Books)

My daughter is 2 years and 4 months old and she started showing her interest to nonfiction book since she was 18 months old. She prefers real photographs better than illustrations and this serious of books give her what she likes the best. This Little Kids First Big Book of Birds is a great addition to our collection of "First Big Book" and my daughter enjoys identifying different animals, fish, bugs and birds as she turning the pages. I look forward for the day that she could read those words herself!

I like this book (this "series" of books, really). They've got lots of interesting facts, lots of pictures for the kids, and are easy to read to kids while still being interesting enough to keep an adult entertained. This book in particular has got information on lots of birds and includes things that kids find cool like how big it is in comparison to them (most of the time) or how many eggs it has at a time, or what it eats, etc. Overall I'd recommend this book and the other books like it in the "series".

He's learned much by reading them. Even the correct pronunciation of the names of the various dinosaurs simply roll off his tongue. I'll continue to buy them for him -- as long as they remain reasonably priced.

Wonderful! Our 6 yr. old G'son loves it and has it handy to help identifying backyard birds. His dad was really impressed with the quality. Birding is a life long gift.

This is a great book for National Bird day, learning about birds, bird enthusiasts, and/or homeschool. Covers a lot of topics and interesting facts woth great pictures and is divided up nicely. We really enjoyed going through it and even at my age, I learned a lot!

We live in Florida and there are so many birds that we see in our neighborhood. For summer reading, we read about a new bird each week. He does not love reading but LOVES this book. He is 8 years old and even I have learned a lot about different birds.

I bought this book to share with my kindergarten class. The pictures were amazing and there was just enough detail to keep them engaged but not to much as the book is huge. I read the book over a course of several sittings so we didn't loose interest. Great book, nice quality, good information.

My 6 year old daughter loves to watch birds, look for nests, and whistle along when she hears their songs. I bought this book to support that interest, and all of my children (6, 4, and 3) love it. It has very bright and colorful pictures that grab their attention, is loaded with cool bird facts, introduces a broad spectrum of bird species, and is completely written on a young child's level of understanding. I've enjoyed reading it as much as they have, and I plan to purchase more of the National Geographic "Little Kids" books.

My son loves the Nat Geo "Little Kids First Big" series of books. I don't know if it's the subject matter, but Birds scores just a little lower than the rest with him. His favorites are Dinosaurs (surprise, surprise), Oceans, and Why. Birds and Bugs come in close behind those others. Overall, these are great books to build interest in learning. They are very well laid out. The text is informative and well organized, and generally appropriate to most age groups with a compelling combination of facts, excellent pictures, and questions to ask your child. They're also surprisingly durable. We read these books frequently, and they've held up to quite a bit of abuse. They're also a good value. I bought Birds at just a little over $10. When you think about the educational value of getting your child interested in a new topic, that's a steal.

I bought it as a gift for a young family. The pictures were very colorful. I think the 4 to 7 year-olds will enjoy it.

Somebody stole it before we get it

An introduction to what makes a bird a bird for kids, and a look at various birds all over the world with chapters that focus on different methods of nest building, mobility, eating habits, etc. These little kids first big books are great for curious kids and can grow with the child. At first they'll just be captivated by the eye-catching photos, but as they grow older they can explore all the info boxes, soak in the text, enjoy the activities at the end of each chapter, or even do the suggested extension activities in the back of the book. Very informative, and I like how there are birds from all over the world that are highlighted. Great nonfiction pick for kids, especially bird lovers.

Amazon does not have the print edition. Barnes & Noble has the real book! Children should have physical books to read & explore with out doors.
