Mr. Brown is a sound-making wonder! He can hoo hoo like an owl and buzz buzz like a bee. It is so much fun to make noises that you hear every day, like moo and ticktock. But stranger sounds are fun to make, too . . . like the pip of a goldfish kiss and the grum grum of a hippo chewing gum. Encouraging imaginative play while learning to read, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? will keep kids laughing (when they’re not ticktocking).
Combining brief and funny stories, easy words, catchy rhythm, and lively illustrations, Bright and Early Books are an ideal way to introduce the joys of reading to children.

Holds a special place in my heart.
My favorite Dr Suess book for toddlers! Silly, fun story. Terrific rhyming and repetition. Not terribly long. Colorful illustrations on each page. The perfect kind of book to start out with when reading to your little one. My oldest son is 20 now and I still remember the fun we had reading this book. When he was 2 years old, I would read the first part of each page and he would recreate the sound and actions we had made up for it (knocking on the book, fish kiss lips, etc.) I later purchased another when my second son, now 4, was born many years later. I just love it. Reading books creates such wonderful memories with your babies and toddlers. I make a point to include this book in each baby shower gift I give. I highly recommend "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?" I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
Onomatopoetic poetry.
Fun book. There's no really strong message. A man named Mr. Brown can make a bunch of different noises of things, and the book asks the reader/listener whether they can mimic the noises as well. There's a lot of fun onomatopoeia. While "moo" and "buzz" are common words, it includes noises like a hippopotamus chewing gum ("grum grum grum grum") and other fanciful, playful sounds. The meter isn't quite as obvious in some sections as others. The illustrations are typical Seuss, with bright colors and stylized characters and animals. There's nothing really to it. It's enjoyable and light. My kids enjoy making funny noises. Silly things are attractive to children. The imaginative, whimsical aspects of this book are great. There's no real message to it, but it might encourage children to use their imagination and be more descriptive of things. For more children's book reviews, see my website at drttmk dot com.
Small book!
I purchased the board book as a gift for a friend’s newborn and I guess I should have considered the book’s dimensions more closely. The book is tiny! To be fair, the listing isn’t misleading but it is still an awfully small book. The book itself is great and seems like it will be durable. I have fond memories of reading Dr. Seuss books growing up, and the pictures are always entertaining.
Rain sounds like what??
I'm all for introducing my child to sounds, and I get that the sound of raindrops is difficult to make, certainly difficult to spell. But maybe that just means the child should be interested to more spellable sounds via books and they can learn what rain sounds like by hearing rain? Still though, it's a board book which I like for my very little one and it's small for small hands. And there are plenty of sounds in the book that you CAN pronounce. So it's not all bad. I just skip the rain page.
Simple but fun
This is a short, but cute book. My daughter is 13 months and LOVES books. She always wants us to read to her, and the board books are the best way to have her involved, as well. She gets a little testy when you don't let her turn the page on a book and, at her age, board books provide her with that opportunity without mom & dad worrying she's going to rip the pages. The story itself is simple, and calls for your child to repeat various animal sounds. Our daughter is just beginning to repeat the sounds, so it's mainly to get her to associate each animal with their sound right now. This is a simple book, with animals, word/sound association and it encourages reading. I think it's wonderful.
Mr brown is a strange man.
I don't have the heart to tell Mr brown that some of the noises he makes aren't very good. But just when you're like "this guy is a hack", he goes and knocks it out of the park with his impression of a rhino chewing gum. Its spot on. Yet his impression of lightning is somewhat lacking. SPLAT? not his best work.
A fun book to read and to listen to -- and for teaching words
Our toddler loves being read to, and at his age (under 2 years) a book with rhythm really makes for a fun experience for him since obviously he can't read himself. This is a great one for when he's in a lap, sitting quietly and listening. In addition, this books offer lots of breaks where you can pause and ask him to repeat the sound he just heard. He enjoys trying out the noises and has begun predicting which one is on which page.
I love it! And have a tip to making it last longer!
This is an amazing book where my child learned how to make different sounds. My child loved that I talked to him in different tones and volumes. The book is very durable. I bought the book when he was 12 months old and has lasted through 9 months of banging, smacking, and throwing, Granted, I have repaired it numerous times with tape, I still find this book to be pretty durable. A tip to making board books last longer - laminate them with tape before giving it to your child. I've learned after having to repair several board books.
Reworded vice original.
Was not expecting the pages to be reworded. Not the original wording as in the paperback version which I read to my older kids many times. This was a replacement to read to my youngest and I was thrown off by the differences.
Wonderfully rhyming book and everyone gets to help with the "sounds"!
Used to read this book to my children 35 years ago, so now I'm reading it to two 5-year-old grandchildren and two 2-year-old great-grandsons - and they love the rhymes and and also the sounds that they get to make as I read it! We love this book and it's so much fun to read together!

Very small and not one of those interactive "sound or noise" books. Misleading advertising
This is a very tiny book and not at all what I expected after ordering another Dr. Seuss board book recently that had items for the child to "touch" such as a small blanket and "satiny clouds" as well as "fuzzy" things. From what I was reading I was expecting maybe some type of noise would be produced by pushing a button or something, but NO - you make the noises yourself. As I said, I feel very duped by this advertising and the tiny size of this book. I think its worthless. Keep looking. There are other Dr. Seuss board books that are truly interactive and not just misleading.
Short interactive Seuss book
Good Seuss book! Attached are some photos of the pages(8 pages). Not a whole lot of text, but you can make noises while reading to baby. Colorful and small.
Little Book for Little Hands
I love these little “Early and Bright” books. They have become my go-to book to purchase before we travel on an airplane – they are simple, colorful, durable, and lightweight. They fit nicely in our diaper bag and are the perfect size for my 2yo to flip through. And the Mr Brown Can Moo story is so fun to ready with lots of silly sounds!
Cute book about animal sounds
Cute book with great interactive story for acting out with toddler during story time. The board book is small but it’s perfectly sized for little hands to flip through. My 1 year old son loves to just turn the pages and look at the pictures even when we aren’t actively reading.
Very small book
Book is so small. I should have paid attention to the details on size
You will love this one
Love this book! This is the second one we have bought because we wore out our first. This has a very easy flow to the read. Lots of "sound-words" that my toddlers love to hear. I love this one from Dr. Seuss so much that I would even purchase it a third time if need be.
Wasted my money.
This is NOT the full size book. I was surprised to open the package and find an abridged, pocket size book, especially since it took way longer than normal to arrive. Not worth the time and trouble to return.
I expected to get the full size book. It's ...
I expected to get the full size book. It's the mini version and wasn't so cheap for the mini version. I never would have bought it had I known it was so small
NOT the original book
I like that this was a board book bc my toddler ripped the pages of the original book but hate they cut out certain parts of the book!!
Grandson’s favorite
My 2-year-old grandson loves this book. It’s one of his favorites. He is drawn to the rhythm of the rhyme, as they say. He’s memorized most of the book at this point. I think it’s a fun little book and good for some neural development.
SLP- Approved!
This book is a must-have! I’m a speech therapist and love reading this with my young clients. It provides a great, interactive story time experience and numerous opportunities to encourage vocal play and sound imitation. Highly recommend!
small
great price. I new it was a board book but didn't realize how small it would be. I thought it would still be a regular size board book.
One fun book for storytime
Definitely one of our top 2 favorites. Everyone loves the noises, it's a fun and relatively short board book, perfect for babies and toddlers. We never not have fun with this one. Really recommend.
Help your kiddo read (babies too)
Dr Seuss anything is great for kids. Especially because the use of words exposes young ones to different vocabulary, colorful pictures and patters with rhyming. Research shows that exposing the youngest kiddos to books (read aloud to them) helps their brain become familiar with patters, word use and thoughts to paper. Dr Seuss books draw on all of those qualities and help develop young ones ability to comprehend text.
Classic in a well constructed board book format
I grew up with this in a traditional format but board books are the bomb. And this one is perfect for our 1yr old grandbitty to toss around independently or for us to sit and read together.
Smaller Version than Expected
Ordered these for my wife's pre-K class. Did not realize that the books would be so small. Well, my wife can be assured that no one else will have exactly the same books that she has in her classroom...
Portable
The main thing my niece requested for the baby was books and her fav are Dr Seuss. These are great books to have because they grow with your child. From infant to early reading. Another thing I liked is how it fits in diaper bag
Great for tiny hands to hold
Love reading this book to my son. Hes 8 months and so interested in different sounds...it always manages to get a laugh out of him. The small size is great too!
I may not like reading this anymore after 50 million times - but my son lights up each time
This is the perfect little board book for my 6 month old son. He adores this book. I’ve read it way more times than I would like - but every time I pull this off the bookshelf, as soon as he sees the cover he just lights right up. Mr. Brown Can Moo is great for babies. It’s also easy to memorise because parents will read this an infinite amount of times.
One Star
i think this book is useless...
Awesome book for babies!
The board book version is pretty small- smaller than I expected- but I actually like that so we can keep it in the diaper bag. This book has been a HUGE hit with my eight month old twins, it makes them laugh every time!
Love it
Love it. My child loves to do the different sounds except the review section. Always turn back to the start there. Also it isn't long.
My 2 year old LOVES this book
My 2 year old (at the end of this month) usually whines when I try reading her a new book but she didnt fuss at ALL on this one (apparently we hate change lol)! She loved this book and would mimic the sounds.. I def see reading this book NIGHTLY for a WHILE in my near future. ;) BUY IT!
It's his favorite of all his books because the different noises interest ...
My 3mo old loves this one. It's his favorite of all his books because the different noises interest him so much. The board book is sturdy and a decent size. We keep it in the diaper bag for him to look at when we're out. So it gets banged up a bit but it's no worse for the wear.
Great book
My 3-year old grandson loves this book! It arrived in great condition because it was packaged very carefully! It arrived on the day it was promised to arrive.
Great book
Smaller than I thought. They are great quality though and very sturdy especially if baby wants to get at it. Not paper pages.
This is our 2nd favorite book (1st favorite being chugga chugga choo choo)
This is our 2nd favorite book (1st favorite being chugga chugga choo choo). Typical Dr Suess rhymes, but NO made up words that are difficult to pronounce (yay). Great text & illustrations; my daughter (almost 2) tries to say [most of] the sounds as we go along. Definitely on my list of books good enough to gift!
fun board book
My one year old loves to flip the pages by herself. This book has decent vocabulary, bright colors, and love the board pages. I recommend it.
Durable!
These board books are truly great - they stand up to little ones and last. I love reading these to my little one
Baby loves it
Our ten month old loves hearing us make the noises. Only complaint is I wish I got the hardbound edition cos baby is gonna tear it pretty soon
Lots of fun for my kids to read as they love doing ...
Exactly as described. Cute book. Lots of fun for my kids to read as they love doing all the sound effects that Mr Brown can do!
Good size
Great for child development, classic book, my daughter almost has all the sounds down.
small
This was smaller then I expected for the price but it seems all the Dr. Seuss's books are expensive
Great for toddlers!
Such a fun book! This board book version has a good rhythm to it and flows nicely. It is different than the original and larger version.
Great for little ones
This is one of our favorites! My son has loved this book from a very early age and we have worn out our first copy of the book. It’s great for babies! A sturdy board book that lasted us 3 years and that is with being read multiple times a day and carried around/well loved by my toddler.
Love
My little daughter loves this book! She loves making animal noises with Mr Brown.
Favorite Children's Book
My children and grandchildren love Dr. Seuss books and this was one of their favorites. Bought recently for a gift.
One of our favorites
One of our favorite Dr Seuss books. Bought this as a gift to keep it going!
Amazing
Such a fun book. But be ready to read it about 20 thousand times.
Great gift
This is a staple baby shower gift Not only is it a classic, it’s good for travel as well as home.
Good buy
Love this book. It was my kids favorite when they were little. Great baby shower gift.
Always a hit
Silly little book that both of my other babies loved.. 8 years later... surprise! I need another copy..this little guy loves it too.. knock knock knock it's a little family tradition for dad.
Joyful book.
Bought for grandchildren because my children loved it when they were little.
Great classic book in board book form
Another Seuss classic! Excited to find it in a board book
Great purchase
Great book for our grandson to have and learn to read from
cute story
This is a very cute book. I love board books because I have two rambunctious boys. The story is very cute however, my one year old doesn't seem to care for it.
The rare board book that stands up to the original!
It's hard to find board books that strike the right balance. Many are so simple there's just nothing to them -- you don't really get to settle in for a nice reading session. But abridged versions of longer picture books often lose the magic of the original. Congratulations to the folks who trimmed "Mr. Brown" down to size. It has a wonderful, natural rhythm -- even zippier than the original! And my baby daughter LOVED hearing us make all the silly noises. When she was 9 months old she'd already started imitating this book, wagging her finger bag and forth and going "tick, tock" like a clock. Fun for all!
Fun reinforcement of sounds
Great reinforcement story of sounds for my speech delayed kiddos.
Can You Moo? Oh Yes You DO!
A special, fun, and favorite book for ages 2-5. Who doesn't want to moo like a cow? So much fun it tickles the funny bones.
Would recommend
A short board book that my granddaughter loved!
great sturdy book
great sturdy book. My Sped class loves Dr. Suess and I love that its a little bigger than the other board books.
He can sound like a COW
My 10 month old LOVES this book. She lights up every time we read this to her. She also grabs it and pretends to read it turning it around in her hands. So great. We do funny sound effects and really get into reading for her. I think that is so important to do in order to engage your baby/child when reading.
Seuss books are great. She has a small library of them
I purchased this to replace one lost years ago. I've often thought of this book. Most of Dr. Seuss books are great. She has a small library of them. I'd recommend!
Classic kid's book
Been all my kids favorite for years. We have several copies, ones they can break or chew, ones to read.
Our son loves when we read him this book aloud.
Good kid book, it's a small board book just in case someone doesn't see in the description.
Great books
This is the second copy that I have bought (they do not survive more than one kid worth of growing, biting, chewing and slobbering). I love them!
A classic
What could be better?! Mr. Brown is a wonder!! Boom boom splat splat!!!! Dibble dibble dop dop cock a doodle do!!
Would definitely recommend
Great quality book for children. The board books are great for young children so they can't destroy them as easily. My 18 month old loves this book. I read it probably 20 times a day. It mostly focuses on learning sounds, which is great for teaching little ones just learning to talk and for keeping them entertained at the same time.
Must read
A ton of fun to read. And it just so happens to be the first book that really got my son 'talking' making animal sounds, knocking on his crib, even clicking his tongue. It's a must in my opinion.
Has everything a toddler likes.
My daughter loves to make sounds along with this book. Great quality, child friendly size, and fun book!
Good price for product
Great little book, very cute.
LoveI
As expected! Love Dr Suess
Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You?

This is my favorite Dr. Suess book
This is my favorite Dr. Suess book. I bought it for my granddaughter for Christmas (it was her Mom's favorite at her age!) - She has a cousin coming in August. I'll be ordering another! It is a less common Dr. Suess book so I was very happy to find it on Amazon.

love this book
super cute and easy to hold.
Purchased hardcover, received board book
The description said it was a 36 page hardcover book, but we were sent a small board book. Board book was an option, but not what we selected. It was not worth the price paid. Buy with caution.
Great price for a dr. Suess
Great price for a good book. The
Not necessary
Not a necessary book to add to your Dr. Seuss collection, but it’s okay.
Perfect for Toddlers
You can't go wrong with this book! This is actually the second time I bought this for my daughter as it's her favorite and the first one got water spilled on it! She loves trying to make all the sounds and giggles as I read it to her. This is a perfect gift for a toddler or even a baby shower!

All toddlers should have this book! So much fun and very interactive. Definitely one of my kids favorites. We especially love that Mr. Brown makes thunder - they just think Mr. Brown is around during a storm and they are never scared.

Can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss
Another great book from Dr. Seuss. The thing I love most is the size - easy to bring in the diaper bag, and the bright colors. The story and words are fun but it's also fun to be able to throw it in my purse :)!

Wonderful book for 1 yr old; it becomes better and better the older he gets. He says "Boom" the minute the book comes out.
Good book for one year olds!
My toddlers loved this book! They enjoyed all the sounds! I only wish it was the whole story and a little taller of a book, but I understand for their attention spans why it was shortened! Thankful to add this to my preschool classroom library!

Great
What you expect from the Dr.
But seriously it's a cute book that we love reading together
I can indeed moo. And do so frequently. Maybe that's why my son frequently calls me a moo cow? But seriously it's a cute book that we love reading together.
Always a favorite with my kids
We've always loved this book! Over ready to all three of my kids over the past 12 years and it never gets old. I loved to read it to them it's so fun 😁
My absolute favorite book to read to the kids
My absolute favorite book to read to the kids. I actually bought this for a second time because the first one got really dirty and was falling apart from all the loving my 3 kids were giving it. LOVE it!

One of my very favorite books for babies! My grandson loves to hear the various sounds made while reading this book, and enjoys imitating them as he follows along.
Great book
This book is in excellent shape and arrived quickly. The 2-year old is very pleased.
Excellent book printed colors not vivid
Love this book my favorite!!! Greek rhymes to teach your child sounds. Only reason I never gave it a five was due to the printed colors were not vivid.
