How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Classic Seuss)

My 4 year old niece didn't want to go to the live play of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" because she was scared of the Grinch. When I heard this I knew what the problem was. Children can't sit there for over an hour before the Grinch turns nice. So I will read her the book first. It will take just a few minutes for the Grinch's heart to grow three sizes (oops, spoiler alert!). Then she can watch the 30 minute animated special. Then she can see the play. I suppose she can watch the Jim Carrey movie as well.

I ordered this book to read give to my child on Christmas Eve. The actual size of the book is a little larger than other Dr. Seuss books I have but I like the larger size. It is actually the same size as "The Lorax" which I also bought on Amazon but larger than the other 10 or so Dr. Seuss books that my kids have. We really enjoyed reading this book together on Christmas Eve. This is fun story with a good message and great illustrations. My kids were engaged and enjoyed this book. It would also be good for young readers to read themselves. I would definitely recommend this book. It would also make a great gift for a child.

A wonderful book by Dr. Seuss. This book is a smaller version. The color hue of the original book's red color in this version is shiny ruby red, unlike the classic red. Other differences I may have missed. Reprints are made in China, but still retain the classic color and size . These would be vintage and collectibles.

Great holiday classic. Its a beautiful hard back book. My only complaint has nothing to do with the seller and more to do with Amazon. When I tell you this normal sized book arrived by itself in a massive box! I know the factory workers are probably stressed and overworked this holiday season but I swear I thought someone accidentally delivered a TV to my house!

There is food on the pages causing them to stick together. Some sticky substance on the covers, broken binding and the front and back covers are damaged. There is some black smudge marks all over the covers and the book is way bigger than the other dr suess books i have. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

The book arrived in great shape which has not always been the case, because books are not as protected for mailing as they use to be. The cover is a bright red which is an immediate attraction to kids, and the animation is great! A classic read for years, even back to this grammy's childhood.

Growing up this was my favorite Christmas story to read as a kid (and watch the cartoon of course). This year this was purchased as a gift for my three year old granddaughter, and given a bit early before Christmas. She loved flipping through the pages.

This just came in the mail today and I was so impressed with it! It's got a beautiful, shiny red cover and it looks perfect in every way. I can't wait to start a new Christmas tradition this year of reading this book together as a family. Definitely recommend! Happy customer!

Who doesn't love this story? It is so great! A perfect Christmas story! Fun for all ages! I'm 48 (as of this review, in 2021) and I still love reading it every year for Christmas. And I don't have any kids! So that should tell you something!

I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas! It's one of my favorite Christmas classics. This is a wonderful and meaning gift for the child or child at heart. The price is excellent and I couldn't of been happier. The book arrived on time and was in excellent condition. I love Dr. Suess and your little one or yourself is sure to love it too.

Maybe that's oversimplifying a bit, but the basics are the same. In this story, we have the Grinch, who hates Christmas and every year must put up with the celebration of the Whos who live in the valley below his cave. But this year things will be different. This year, he intends to do something about it. Surely the Whos will be disappointed when they wake up Christmas morning to discover that all their presents and decorations have been stolen. Or will they? Told is classic Seuss fashion, completely in rhymes, this book appeals to kids year round. I know I insisted that it be read to me more then just in December. The fanciful illustrations, also classic Seuss, are just as engaging as this story. After all, what could be worse to kids then no Christmas? Yet there is a message here that there is more to Christmas then the commercialism we see around us. It's subtle and not expanded on greatly, but it's there none-the-less. Surely Charles Dickens' classic tale was an influence when Dr. Seuss sat down to write this book. Both the main characters hate Christmas and miss the point, but have a revelation that shows them how important Christmas really is. Of course, the meat of the stories is completely different, so kids not ready for Dickens will love this one. If there is such a thing as a classic picture book, this belongs in that category. Enjoyable at Christmas, or the whole year round.

When I was a child, I found the Dr. Seuss books a bit scary because I didn't much like abstract or surreal stuff. Fast forward many years and I have a daughter who is just learning to read so after seeing that she enjoyed a Dr. Seuss book in the doctor's office I thought I would order this book and give it a spin. This particular edition comes in a nice metallic finish green and red cover. It feels like a quality book. After reading it to her the first night, I had to read it two more nights after that in succession. It was great fun for me too because the rhyming prose allows the reader (who may not be a great thespian) to do some role playing and added intonation. The illustrations are both unusual and vivid which helps stimulate the young reader's imagination. Finally, the essential story message which is to have a heart is a good one particularly in times such as these. Highly recommended!

I could only view the book (on my Android with Kindle app) by turning the phone sideways. With the way the book is formatted, it will only display in landscape. Also, you can't zoom in to make the letters bigger, so it was difficult to read them. I'm very disappointed since i love the story itself.

My son (6) was very into the Grinch this past Christmas, so we bought this for him to read in December. He loved it! The hardcover copy makes it durable and great for gift-giving. I'm sure we'll have it for years to come; a classic story that doesn't go out of style.

Great book! BUT.... I ordered it for a friends baby shower and the book was put together wrong the back cover is actually the front of the book and upside down. It is still readable but was put together backwards/upside down so I laughed but it’s disappointing.

Beautiful, large hard back book. It's a lot longer than I remember it being as a child. My two year old really doesn't have the patience for it yet, it may have to wait till next Christmas before she's willing to sit and listen to it.

Children can't sit there for over an hour before the Grinch turns nice. So I will read her the book first. It will take just a few minutes for the Grinch's heart to grow three sizes (oops, spoiler alert!). Then she can watch the 30 minute animated special. Then she can see the play. I suppose she can watch the Jim Carrey movie as well.

What can be said that others haven't already stated about the grouchy Green of Mean. This is one of the most beloved books by Dr. Suess. Although very short the book get's right to the point of the story with wonderful added illustrations to aid in understanding all that Who terminology. A sweet tale how one angry individual finds the meaning of the holiday on a Christmas Eve he will never forget.

Classic is overused to the point of abuse these days but this is simply a great book that every child and adult should spend time with. The rhymes are wonderful, the pictures engaging and the story conveys the essential message of Christmas as simply and wonderful as any written. Along with A Christmas Carol, this book deserves a treasured place in the holiday season.

I just love this book and have read it so much to all the kids that I can almost repeat the entire book from memory. What a great book to have.

A classic. My kids (3 and 5) love this book. We read it so much over the winter that we all practically have it memorized. It's a fun Seuss book with more of a story than some on his other books that are probably for younger audiences (One Fish Two Fish) or early readers (Hop on Pop). Some nights you want to read the kids a story at bedtime that has more meat to it - the Lorax and the Cat in the Hat and this book fit that bill.

Both the book and the video (the classic animated one, not the Jim Carrey version) have been Christmas traditions for as long as I can remember. The Grinch sits up on his mountain, getting more and more worked up at the way the Whos down in Who-ville garishly celebrate Christmas. He decides to teach them a lesson by taking everything away from them. In case you've been living under a rock your entire life and haven't read this book, I won't spoil the ending. Dr. Seuss, in his trademark sing-songy fashion, will restore your faith in humanity.

I read this every night in the month of December. I can tell you that the quality is top notch and my kids quote it constantly now.

My youngest son loves the grinch movies and he was overjoyed to receive this book. It’s fun to read and the script is similar to the original animated movie.

I agree that Boris Karloff owns this narration and it's a little weird and disappointing to hear anyone else, even Walter Mattheau reciting it. My 3-year-old sat completely engaged when I played it, but later when I asked him if he wanted to hear it again, he said it was scary even though he loves the movie and book.

I used to read this to my preschool class and I loved this Dr. Seuss book as much as they did. A wonderful Christmas present for any child. The story of how the Grinch learned to grow his heart in Whoville in rhyme.

The front and back covers are both torn from the dent. It arrived with another book which was undamaged in a flat shipping box that looks fine. It's readable and I'm keeping it as I don't have time to replace it before Christmas. Disappointed though to gift my favorite Christmas story damaged.

I've read this so many times for so many years that the first half of the book can be recited by memory. We used to stand in line in the grade school library for our five minute turn to visit this little world dreamed up by our favorite doctor. It is a joy to have on my Kindle and still makes the perfect December bed time story.

It was 6 dollars cheaper than my local Barnes and Noble. Now our almost 3 year old only wants to watch the original Grinch cartoon and can recite the book page by page! Its large and thin paper so not good for younger kids/babies to handle. Shiny red cover is eye catching and fascinating to the wee ones. I do wish it was available in a board book though.

It was bought as a gift, this last Christmas. The Grinch by illumination was watched regularly. I wanted to see how close it was to this book written so long ago. Pretty amazing how it was a thirty minute show to an a hour and a half. (Or more). It was just like the book.

Who doesn't love this classic book? I love the size and hardback cover of this book. We read it every Christmas Eve, as well as many other days leading up to Christmas. We typically read the book, make green cookies, and then watch the movie on a snowy weekend day to get us in the spirit. A must-have book for any collection, especially around the holidays and if you are Dr. Seuss fan!

Its a bit bigger then the smaller size as u can see,i got this for my granddaughter,she has the complete set of dr seuss,but this one and how the grinch stol christmas wasnt in it.she loves it cause this is like passing the dr seuss books from me ( im her grandmie and her father).may she keep this going on to the next generation

I don't know who gets more from this timeless story of learning to care and to share, the wide eyed children, the just as intent collection of "somewhat" older listeners, or the one who grabs this really nice edition of the book, to be the one to read it aloud as both the Grinch and the Narrator.

The book came with somebody’s dirty fingerprints on it. We’re in a pandemic, this is disappointing to say the least. The rest of the book seems fine.

Its not the same words as the Boris Karloff movie but its genuine Dr Seuss.

Children can't sit there for over an hour before the Grinch turns nice. So I will read her the book first. It will take just a few minutes for the Grinch's heart to grow three sizes (oops, spoiler alert!). Then she can watch the 30 minute animated special. Then she can see the play. I suppose she can watch the Jim Carrey movie as well.

Would be 5 stars if the grinch stuffed the bags up the chimney!! What’s a Chimbley? How can a classic get messed up like this??

So just FYI there if you want to avoid scaring your little one.. Also I wish the illustrations were in full color.

The size of the book I ordered is UNDER the Green Eggs book, and as you can see, it is NOT the same size as the book on top, which I bought at the book store. You can never go wrong with How the Grinch Stole Christmas! There is a wonderful reason why this story has become a classic that is pretty much a household story! Love it! Merry Grinchmas to all, and to all a good night!

Edit: already recieved a replacement 2 days later, in perfect condition! Thank you! Quality materials, but poor quality control. The pages are glued together at the bottom, attached to the inside book cover. I am going to request a replacement and will update when I get it.

Every primer in amazon loves this book a lot... Except for this review, I do not! It’s the Grinch that stole Christmas! If you’ve never heard of it, you wouldn’t be searching for it. It has a hard front cover, pages with words as well as pictures, and a hard back. If you want this book buy it. I don’t understand why I was asked to do a review?!

I priced this out several places and found amazon to be the most reasonably priced reputable source. Well I was very impressed when I first opened the box because I was not expecting the book to be that big or be the metallic red. I then opened the book and the print is completely upside down. I had to flip it upside down to the back of the book for it to be the beginning.

I loved this book as a child. I bought this for my daughter. She enjoyed the story and pictures. I recommend this to anyone to buy.

Wonderful book, very nice hardback copy of it. I bought it as a gift for a little boy I watch, so he could have his own copy as he loved it when I brought mine. Seuss is delightful to read out loud, trust me when I say you will enjoy reading to a child far more with a good book in your hands, and few are better than his.

The animated feature and the Jim Carey movie are wonderful in their own right, but they hardly hold a candle to this original rhyming offering from Dr Suess. It's been a few years since I had little ones who would sit still to have it read to them. Nevertheless, I read it myself and I am glad to have it on the Fire HD now. The message is timeless and particularly needed in this day and age.

The size of the book I ordered is UNDER the Green Eggs book, and as you can see, it is NOT the same size as the book on top, which I bought at the book store. I had no idea that there would be a different size in the book. I'd only seen these books the size of the Green Eggs book. While I can make this work, I am not happy about it. Too much trouble to return it now.

He told us he was a grinch, and we also decorated our office as whoville. Because everything was Grinch themed, I figured his gift should be too. It was also a gift he could share with his children.

I've always loved "The Grinch" growing up, so I had to get this for my kiddos this Christmas. I haven't given it to them yet, and I won't be til the night before christmas as their "night before christmas box", but I flipped through the pages already. The book has that nice crisp new book feel where it's almost hard to turn the pages because of how tight the binding is, but I love that. It arrived clean and no scratches or anything on the cover which is always nice!

Beautiful hardbound book. Would make a great collection to any children's library. I'm using it for reference for a church musical. I've forgotten how the movie had changed the story a lot, so will be sticking to the original as much as possible. Also, the illustrations are so colorful and inspiring for set designs & costumes.

I wanted so much to give this a 5 because this is the book I have always come to love but clearly they need to do some quality control because not only was it printed upside down and backwards ( which I could probably play off that it was the grinch playing games ) but the bottom of the pages aren’t even cut they are all jagged and uneven and it causes this to look so tacky... unfortunately this is a gift with no time to return and replace

Christmas classic. My toddler adores it and I’m sure we will be reading at Christmas for decades.

I bought this for my small children after watching the original cartoon and the 2018 animated film. They loved the story and the illustration. A must have for any library.

LOOKED AND WORKED GREAT

It warms your heart if you believe in Christmas. One of the best books you can get for your kids. I've been reading this book to my little ones (both toddlers) at least 100 times, they always love the story.

It came just in time and was the exact book we needed. You cannot go wrong with a classic.

The cover of the book was blinded upside down. Now it looks like I'm reading the book upside down.

My 4 year old niece didn't want to go to the live play of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" because she was scared of the Grinch. When I heard this I knew what the problem was. Children can't sit there for over an hour before the Grinch turns nice. So I will read her the book first. It will take just a few minutes for the Grinch's heart to grow three sizes (oops, spoiler alert!). Then she can watch the 30 minute animated special. Then she can see the play. I suppose she can watch the Jim Carrey movie as well.

Would be 5 stars if the grinch stuffed the bags up the chimney!! What’s a Chimbley? How can a classic get messed up like this??

It's a classic obviously but my 3 year old was scared of the picture on the front cover and I had to remove the book from his room before he could fall asleep. He was fine with the story itself - but I had not noticed that Grinch's red eyes glisten in the dark (metallic print) and frankly they looked pretty evil even to me. So just FYI there if you want to avoid scaring your little one.. Also I wish the illustrations were in full color.

I’ve read this book since I was in elementary school and now get to pass it on to my kids

A classic must for every child and I can't believe I waited so long to get it. Honestly thought I already owned it with the rest of our Dr Seuss books! It has a beautiful message and the natural flow of the rhymes are perfectly timed just as you can expect with every Dr Seuss book. Like I mentioned before...it's a must for every home library!!

I was not sure my two year old grandson was ready for this book but I was wrong. He loved it! I read it over to him several times and he listened the whole way through.

Classic book I’m glad I can now read to my kids. The cover seems updated with a more shiny red finish like a Christmas ornament; nice improvement, otherwise the inside is just as I remember it.

Such a pretty book in a shiny red! Can’t wait to give it to my three year old. Brings back so many childhood Christmas memories!

I had a vague knowledge of this book from the TV show, but the book has a charm all its own.

The book's content is great, but the product itself came highly damaged, with the tops of the pages ripped and ragged, and pages stuck together.

I paired the book with a stuffy for one of my grandsons and he loves it.

Old grumpy guy tries to steal Christmas, but learns that Christmas is the spirit within that can’t be bought or stolen. Heart grows to big to keep inside! What’s not to love? ❤️

Classic book that was priced much cheaper on Amazon than in stores.

Bought this for Christmas for my children- we have read it every day since then at least once. They had most of the book memorized within just a couple readings- but just love the story so much they want to hear it over and over and over again. They are 4 and 5 and I will find them "reading" it to themselves in the middle of the day just because they love it so much! Really great price for it too- therefore making it a perfect gift!

Great book!

I love the book, but the kindle version I cannot read. This version as an EBook, is simply a copy (xerox) of the book, the type could not be changed, enlarged/ zoomed, etc, so for me i could barely see it let alone read it. I thought it would be a great book to have on my kindle to read to my grand-nieces, and nephews, esp when visiting them, but i can see, in this case, i better stick with the book.
