James - Bible Study Book: Mercy Triumphs

I was amazed at the insight Beth Moore had when I read through this book. I used it as a basis when I led my Men's group through the book of James. Yes, I know it was written to women, but the wisdom she has shouldn't be limited to only half the world. I always liked the book of James, but after going though this study, I absolutely love it. The depth and background she revealed connected me intimately with James letter. Thank you Beth Moore for pouring yourself into this book.

Author is all over the place. The book has the user reinforce and write the author’s message (non biblical) not the biblical text. I struggle through the first 4 chapters before finding the one mercy in the text was to toss the text in the recycle bin. I could not in good faith donate the book to another reader.

I am doing this study this summer with my church and I just love Beth Moore. She is so real and gets into scripture for us in what we deal with now as Christians in this ever changing world...no matter what her study is she is relatable and that is what makes her so great!

Level 1 is videos only (no home-work), level 2 is videos and home-work (home-work is 5 days per week), level 3 is videos, home-work, and writing out the book of James (there is room provided to do that in this book), level 4 is all of the above plus extra reading that takes you deeper yet (in the book too), and lastly, level 5 which is all the above plus memorizing the 5 chapters of James. You choose which level best suits you, and jump in! I highly recommend this study!! Beth outdid herself here!

This was a “used book” purchase but was a clean copy and perfectly usable. Excellent quality and as described.

Beth Moore really brings up gold in this study as she opens up topics and ideas that I normally just skim through because of my lack of understanding. Her daughter collaborates with her on the research and she is a wonderful bible sleuth just like her mom. Personally, I have been more than enjoying this study, I've been challenged to change my mind and heart and I'm only in chapter 4! For example, do you know who was James? Do you know about his relationship to Jesus? Do you know to whom was his mission field? Knowing his background allows you to understand the thrust of his words.

Beth Moore has the ability to make me fall in love with the Word of God every time I journey through one of her studies. James: Mercy Triumphs pulled back the layers of my faith and asked me repeatedly, "What good is it?" After working through this study (and watching the corresponding videos, which I downloaded from Lifeway) I found that my faith is informing more of my decisions. I'm growing in compassion and serving with better motives than ever before.

What an incredible study. It is well researched, perfectly articulated. I was very lucky to do this with several ladies. But, even alone it would have been beneficial.

Another terrific bible study by Beth Moore! She always makes me think about things in a slightly different way. Love the different levels of participation for this as study! It's nice people can have choices and participate at whatever level they are able to with whatever is going on in their lives and not feel guilty if they can't do it all.

I'm a Beth Moore fan, but there have been some studies I just haven't enjoyed or learned as much from. James is the not that study. Beth Moore takes you verse by verse through the whole book of James explaining so much about each verse and teaching the reader how to be a critical thinker and interpreter. Melissa Moore Fitzpatrick adds a TON of depth to each week with extra articles regarding James and theology.

Beth Moore's writes a stimulating Bible study. She takes the reader into the Word with such clarity because of her in-depth study of Biblical history, and her passion for Christ.

A good study to do with a group. You will definitely need the DVDs that accommodate the study - we have a group leader who ordered them and we watch them together when we meet. I really like Beth Moore - her passion and energy definitely show in the DVD series.

She has thoughtfully done it again! This is a very pertinent and timely addition to Beth Moore's library of studies. I loved the personal thoughts added by her daughter in this study, and also love the ability for the student to go deeper if desired. This study can be used in a wide variety of levels of study. Our group is large 20+ and we have grown so much going through this, now twice!

Absolutely terrible, the Bible said it was an excellent condition but used. When I got the Bible study book it was completely filled out including the back section where notes are taken was completely filled in so I would not have classified this as excellent condition.

I am doing this study with a small women's group. It is an excellent book for small group study. There are several levels of commitment to her study, which I appreciate. Each person could decide how in depth they wanted to go. This was my first Beth Moore study and I would do one again. It helps greatly to watch the videos.

Got for a study class she is a good teacher packs a lot into each lesson need the dvds to go along with this study guide.

This study is very good. The Book of James is written in a different voice than the Pauline epistles. It is very direct and to the point, causing one to think and hopefully respond.

This study is a great Beth Moore study! This one has a bit of a different format. The study has 5 different "levels" as she calls them. The levels all build on each other, but the idea is that you can do as much or as little as you feel led to do:Level 1 is simply watching the DVD sessions and filling in the notes from that, level 2 is doing the homework daily, level 3 is a directed writing of the book of James (which she has dedicated pages in the back of the book for), level 4 is reading the excerpts that her daughter Melissa has written to give you more background on certain discussions from that week (usually 2 of these articles per week), level 5 is memorizing the entire book of James (which she outlines as a 5 month process and gives a website with great resources to help you out). The study itself gets into what it means to be a Christian and how faith and mercy should look in our lives on a practical level. As always, Beth Moore is easy to understand, but challenging and encouraging! This is a great study for repeat Beth Moore studiers or those new to her studies!

Beth's book on James has been a great small group study. It teaches, challenges, and inspires you. As in all of Beth's studies, you have 5 days of homework, but it is manageable. Our small group breaks up each week by doing day 1,2,3 one week and day 4, 5 the next. I would recommend this study. I have learned much more about the book of James than I have on previous independent study.

Great Bible Study

I joined the Women's Bible Study to go through the book of James. Just three weeks into the book, I have not only grown in knowledge, but spiritually as well. This is my first Beth Moore Bible Studay and I am hooked, girlfriend!

I am loving this study. The book itself is well made too.

The product is great, material wise, but my book was delivered with multiple pages throughout the book missing. I can see they've been torn out, but when I purchased the book there was nothing in the description saying I would be receiving a partial product.

I love Beth Moore and her studies all move me and bring me closer to God. This one is no different. It is totally doable without the video series. She also has levels so you can chose how much time you want to spend. As a working Mom, that is invaluable. I highly recommend it.

Beth and her daughter go into great detail about James and his life and relationship with his brother Jesus. All of the members of our small group agree this is the best study we have encountered oin a long time. Well worth the money.

Wow! I ordered this book on a Monday and it was delivered two days later; on Wednesday. This is a wonderful study guide. Our Bible study is really blessed by Beth Moore's teaching. Worth far more than the money it cost! Thank you for such a great shipping ethic.

The book is very detailed and a little dry. The writer talks directly to you and it can feel awkward. The DVD series that goes with it is AMAZING and makes the reading so much livelier after viewing the video. Her personality in the DVD makes sense (versus her writing) and she fires you up about studying the Bible in depth.

Our study groups have been using Beth Moore studies for 10 yrs. and Beth never disappoints us. This one is an awesome, personal challenge to not only know the Word but to live it out daily. We love that the book of James does not mince words and neither does the author. It is meant to encourage us to see others through our Father's eyes and with His heart and to act accordingly. It is teaching us to esteem eternal value instead of worldly worth which eventually will disappears into thin air!

As usual, Beth Moore provides an in-depth study. Lessons I will carry with me as I go forward.

Really have enjoyed this study. Beth Moore digs into James and has you dig in too. James is always life changing and Beth has a way of not letting the student get away with skimming the surface but looking into your personal walk with the Lord.

Beth Moore is an incredible Bible teacher with such a wonderful heart for sharing with women. We are so blessed to have someone like her writing studies like this - and her others - and the DVD programs that go with them. I hope to have the opportunity to study all of them!

I love this Bible study. However, I ran into a small issue. Pages 105-137 where not in the book and days 3-5 of week 5 were printed in the book twice 😳.

Love this study and would do it again if it came up. I learned more about James then I ever thought there was to learn. This opened up my eyes to so many things that happen everyday and we just take it for granted. Beth and Melissa did a exceptional job at their service to the savior

This is a great Bible study!! I love this workbook and it really gets you diving deeper into scripture. I haven't been impressed with the DVD s but can overlook that for how well done the workbook is.

Great study

James was the deep, bible-based, spiritual hunt I needed. I feel like I know Jesus better because of this study and Beth's humor, candor and faith continues to inspire and draw me in. LOVED this study.

As with all of Beth Moore's studies, this is indepth, applicable and relevant. The James Study, however is a new take on Beth. From the first day to the last you see how God has completely reformed and transformed her own personal journey and thus, we are also. I have been more convicted and challenged in this study than in any other. It is in your face!

I bought this for my wife for a women's Bible study at our church. She has gained a lot new knowledge about the Book of James. The study book along with the video, sold separately, works well together as a study.

The book of James is often past over because of it's length, but, let me tell you, this study reveals it's depth. Historically grounded, scripturally sound, this is a study for the ages.

such a great study! It was my first Beth Moore study. They are a long format (takes 1 1/2 -2 hours per session) but they are great! Gotta love her!

Great reading and studing

James like the book of Proverbs covers almost all aspects of life. I teach a Ladies study and we have done many Beth Moore studies. I had more ladies say that their lives were changed with this study than any other that we have done. I have members in their 80's to mid 20's. Beth Moore's studies bring out Godly principles that cross all ages and bring us together in a wonderful life learning experience.

Ladies who are part of this study group love it.

They can become HEAVILY Theological and hard to follow her train of thought in the workbook, or, you have to get deep in the weeds of theology - depends if that's your thing.

This is an excellent study of the Book of James (New Testament). It's also helpful that Beth Moore provides five different options based on the amount of time available to complete the homework.

I am enjoying the indept study of James. It makes me feel as though I am there. I never thought about how they lived and traveled at that time. Now I feel like I can see the long journey on foot in large groups and sharing what they had to make it work for all. Loving getting to know James and Jesus better.

This book makes you search your true self, worth every agonizing realization. Another cool thing about this study is you choose how deep you want to go, there are 5 levels. Cant go wrong with Beth Moore.

This Bible study is comprehensive and uses scripture outside of James to show context and meaning, as well as a fairly in depth study of the James scripture itself. God has used it in my life in a big way. His word always has a return, and, in fact, I have seen Him use what I have learned through this study in the lives of people around me as well.

Amazing work book!

great Bible Study especially for a small group

Impossible to review a workbook for an accompanying video bible study. So this review is for the whole experience. Beth is entertaining and biblically sound, but speaks too quickly and her voice is too highly pitched for me -- it is stressful listening to her while trying to follow the book and fill in the blanks while she has sped on. Next time I would want to view the video if able to pause when needed, or just watch the video without trying to follow the workbook. In a group if 70 women it cannot be paused.

Wonderful book to use along with the video series in studying the book of James. I am in a women's study group. This study is set up so you can learn by writing each verse, doing homework on a daily basis and if you like you can attempt to memorize the entire book of James. Beth Moore is a great speaker and helps you to understand we all have some of the same feelings. She also helps you by giving a history and the greek interpretation of some of the words in the verses.

This is a great study with options to go a little deeper! I definitely recommend this study and I love Beth Moore's enthusiasm for the Word

If you want to really dig into the book of James. This is the Bible study for you! We are doing this in a group setting and watching the video also. But I think you can get enough out of just the book! It is great! And Beth has her daughter, who is a theology scholar, write about the times when James lived!!

I received 7 books that were great!!! I tried to order 4 more and I had trouble putting them in my cart. I call Amazon to get help in placing the order and I could not understand the person helping me place the order. Instead of getting 4 more books I received 8 books. Now I have to pay for them. One of the books that came from "Books and Articles 1" was completely filled in. Why would I order a workbook for my class that was already filled in? I was very unhappy with that order. It is helpful if we can understand the person that we are talking with. K.

My first Beth study. I appreiciate the levels available to each person - they can pick the level of depth they wanna go into the study. I appreciate her openess and vulnerability as the book of James changed her. I appreciate the life of James, half brother of Jesus, and his journey of faith.

It's an amazingly well written study. Get to know and understand the culture and the dynamic within Jesus' family...and implications of being a half brother of Jesus Christ...and then coming to believe He was who He said.

The study itself is incredible! Beth Moore is a woman after God's own heart and I've never been disappointed with any of her studies. The one negative that I would say is the binding of my book is not that great. My friend is having the same problem and her pages are starting to come out already and I know she ordered through Amazon too.

This is a very good and challenging Bible Study. It makes you really want to learn God's Word. just getting the Word in my heart has been good for me. I have the 1st chapter of James just about memorized. Try it you will find it a great experience.

This is an excellent study of the author as well as the subject matter which are intertwined. Understanding James' background and relationship with Jesus Christ gives much insight to the written book.
