I liked the way it is organized
By incorporating the ideas Knight presents into my lesson plans, my ability to develop well-rounded as well as more focused lessons has dramatically increased. I bought this book a year ago, when I was a wide-eyed first-year grad student who was determined to become an effective educator yet was confused by the many facets of teaching. I read this book over the summer before my second year of grad school, and I really appreciated this book; I liked the way it is organized, the way it features a mind map as well as a motivational quotation before each chapter. Knight has a knack for describing techniques and ideas in a clear, yet comprehensive way. Upon diving into my second year of grad school, I used this book as a source while writing papers and I incorporated Knight's techniques into my lesson plans. I more clearly grasp the topics my professors discuss because I already pre-learned them from this book. I'm looking forward to having my own class next year in which I can turn put the ideas into action.
Arrived on time and as described.
I'm getting into the book now. Jim Knight's work is very strong. The condition of book was as described.

If you want your students to learn, read this!
Jim Knight's practical advice for student achievement is research based but also based on what goes on in actual classrooms. These ideas include information from several disciplines and it makes this not just a book for teachers. His up-to-date information is supplemented by QR codes that allow you to see the ideas put into action. Each idea is also given a checklist for implementation (another idea taken from the medical world). As a veteran teacher, I found this book to be an affirmation as well as a challenge to scrutinize every aspect of my teaching.

I popped 8/10 balloons with this book so it's not bad. I still have my job but this year I think I'm going to have to hit 10 for 10. Jim knight is awesome and helped me keep my job. Most teachers lost their job and were replaced with a worn out college graduate desperate for a paycheck.
Required Reading for All Principals and Coaches
With the changes that are under way in my school and the reforms happening in my school district, HIgh-Impact Instruction should be required reading. High impact gives me a set of tools to use in working with teachers to improve their practice.
Fantastic Book by Fantastic Author
This book is so organized and chock-full of HOW-TOs, it could be the new bible for educators. Jim has identified high leverage instructional behaviors that make a difference for students! There are practical, easy to implement suggestions that related directly to performance in the classroom. Every teacher in the world could use this book to improve in some way -- even the very best teachers will find something here to improve and hone their craft!

Such a good read for educators.

Everything was just as described.
Must have for educators
Jim Knight's lastest book, High-Impact Instruction, pulls together important principles from his earlier work and weaves them into a robust plan for improving instruction and student learning. The web-based ancillary materials are particularly helpful in bringing the concepts alive.
Five Stars
Perfect as promised.
One Star
The chapters could be summed up in two pages.
Where was this book my first year of teaching?
This book really has it all in a single book. It explains all of the major components of teaching including: - unit planning - student engagement - relationship building - assessments - questioning The mind maps are particularly helpful in giving us a review of the chapter. I encourage you to buy this book for you're new to the profession or a veteran to the field as these are fantastic reminders of essential practices in our field.
Outstanding
I have read quite a few books on this subject, but "High Impact Instruction" stands out as being one of the absolute best. It is packed with useful ideas, examples of good teaching, useful related videos, and frequent references to other inspiring sources...a wonderful combination of very carefully thought out strategies, imaginative takes on challenging problems, and good common sense. I particularly appreciate the format of the book. Each chapter begins with a learning map (there is a chapter about them too) and ends with sections entitled "Turning Ideas into Action," "To Sum Up," and "Going Deeper," all of which make it easy and satisfying to return to the book for further study. The author provides a very comprehensive and intriguing reading list. He discusses many of these references in the narrative, making strong recommendations for certain sources here and there. I found the chapters on formative assessment, thinking prompts, and effective questions most useful. However, what has brought me back to to the book again and again is the last major section, "Community Building," in which the teacher-student relationship is examined from many angles. The author's ideas about "power with" vs. "power over" are both refreshing and inspiring. The chapter entitled "Freedom Within Form" is loaded with great ideas for finding the right balance between structure and openness. Above all, what shines through the book in general and these chapters in particular is the author's empathy for both instructors and students, which can inspire both new and experienced teachers to look more deeply into the hearts and minds of the young people they work with. This is a pretty hefty book, and yet I found myself making my way through it surprisingly quickly. "High Impact Instruction" is a very valuable reference, a great manual for self-study, and a helpful tool for rising above the usual obstacles to good teaching.
A great guide for any "people leader"
I got this book not because I am a teacher, I got this because I am a leader and have a team of 5 people that I am responsible for working with and training. I know I am not the most effective person in the world and I am always looking for new tools to sharpen my skills. When I saw this book it really seemed to speak to me. The book is a terrific guide. I was worried when I ordered it that it would be pretty bland and it is far from. Sure the subject manner is not "fun" per say, but if you open the book from the back and just flip through it letting the pages fall you'll see charts, graphs, diagrams, tables, etc all throughout the book. The book takes you on a journey as you read it explaining how to be high impacting, the "need to know" without unnecessary fluff. At the same time the book is laid out so it's a great reference so you don't have to read it cover to cover. Just pick it up, flip to the section you need a refresher on and jump right in. As a people leader this book will be at my desk and I'll be referencing it often.I would recommend this book if you are a teacher as I think this would be phenomenal for you, and yes even as a manager or leader this book has some valuable information that you can benefit from.
Awesome Awesome Awesome!
I've been in higher education for 20 years after spending a dozen in college myself...this is one of the most useful, informative and interesting books I've had the pleasure to read/review. Without exaggeration, it has become one of my absolute favorites...so much so that I hope to integrate this book into a new course if possible. I would go so far as to say that no educational degree would be complete without taking this book into consideration. It is absolutely packed full of valuable tips, insight, worksheets and information. Well supported by the evidence and data at every turn, it's exceptionally well balanced between theory and application. QR codes, talking points, examples and much more (including a blog by the author) provide even more information for those inclined to follow-up on certain sections or segments. Truly an outstanding contribution!
