First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 2021, Thirty First Edition

Been with the book for just a few hours now, and by just glancing over....there are few major updates from the 2020 edition. The 2021 edition has many more images, diagrams, and everything is structured better than 2020. There is a new communication skills section under public health that can help us transition from year 2 to 3 (in addition to board prep). The updated pages are printed nicely with dark ink, and the rapid-review section has been updated. There are a total of 828 pages in this edition. I preordered this edition back in early Dec 2020, so I am happy to get the book to prep for APMLE part 1. I will edit my review once I being to study from this edition!

Just got my First Aid 2021 copy and it's great, truly the best USMLE Step 1 resource! The only way to use it IMO is along with Picmonic; this book is incredibly dense and hard to cram, so I review it page-by-page with Picmonic. This breaks the pages down into easily consumable sections and mnemonics so I can actually remember what I'm reading. There's no other way to cram such a huge amount of info into your brain in such a short time! These two resources together are CRUCIAL to how I crushed Step 1 (268) and I'm proud of how well they worked :D

Overall, you won't be missing a lot if you don't buy this edition. Except for a few new low-quality images and basic Coronavirus information, the book is pretty much the same as the previous edition. I really liked the paper quality before, they were thick and shiny. It was very easy to write a note on them, erasing pencil writings wouldn't leave marks, and I didn't use to have trouble with turning the pages. Right now I feel like I am reading a cheap newspaper article with bad images. Very disappointed, considering the fact that we spend more time with this book than with our family for several months and keep it for our future references.

The new graphics are excellent for a visual learner and I'm enjoying the updates! More than worth it to have the physical copy, and I'd rave more about the content but it's already well known this is one of the must-haves for medical students. I just have to take off a star because of the build quality seems to have gone down this year. As another review mentioned, the front cover doesn't fully obscure the first page of the book. Both the front and back covers are already beginning to split (they're 2-ply), so I'm going to have to tape around the edges of the covers to hold them together. The book is also still delivered loose in a box with no plastic wrap or protection aside from a few bags of air, so it did get a little dinged in the delivery process and warped from the cold (improving with use). I hope they consider improving the packaging--my FA 2020 came the same way.

The content itself is useful (everyone should know that First Aid is essential for Step 1). Other reviewers have noted that the paper quality seems lower than previous years. My complaint about this specific sale is that my copy came with pencil markings in it before I even started studying. ETA: I realized that the marks I thought were pencil from previous use were actually marks my pen left from two pages previous (not bleedthrough, but imprint that somehow got color like pressing on carbon paper). Sooooo the pages are too thin.

I ordered this book for my USMLE exam. This is the latest version which is recommended if you are also planning for USMLE exam. The pictures are really clear and also the pages are good quality. The book cover is hard and the texts are clear with decent font size. Happy with my purchase.

Works fine, some of the images are SO small I wish I could zoom in on paper. There are a few errors so you’ll have to be wary of that. Small updated section for Covid. Like less than a page. Index is off by a few pages - shouldn’t this be automated by now?

I wish I got this book sooner in my medical school career. I should have listed to others and that is my regret. This books is key to doing well on Step, its an addition to your studying resources and questions that you need to connect all the dots on what you're learning. It goes through every disease, mechanism, side effects and ties into other medical conditions. Use this book along with another resource like Pathoma to expand your knowledge. I like how it leaves extra space on pages for notes, provides pictures, bolds key words and gives mnemonics for hard to remember material. Its the first "step" to doing well on the exam.

Classic book correct for step studying and a great reference tool through out 3rd year. I’m not a fan of all the mnemonics in the book some are just outrageous and generally unhelpful but for the most part it has all the content you need to do well on step. This and a great question block will ensure you do well on the exam.

I know First Aid Step 1 is a benchmark for all test takers who are preparing for Step 1. When I bought First Aid Step 1 2018, the paper quality and printing were top-notch. I was fascinated by how these guys cared about this aspect. I don't know what happened in 2021 but there are multiple complaints about how ill-printed these books are. Mine has 15-20 pages of flawed printing. My expectations were high since I had FA 2018.

No care into the packaging! Got this book with the cover completely bend (this is post trying to save it) and the cover is shorter (not that important) but still shorter than the book! I will be using it anyway, but kinda bummed it feels like an old resource already!

Pages much thinner than 2019. So thin that notes written in any ballpoint pen will show through the other side. Makes the book useless for annotating. Printing problem, ink is thin and very light, smudged and faded on several pages.

Arrived on time but the first few pages is starting to separate from the top page. I can return them and ask for replacement but I would rather not waste the days to be studying.

Shipping was quick and efficient but I noticed the book had stains. When I opened it, it seemed like it got wet at some point. I thought it was just water but the stains are sticky. I don’t know if it happened while shipping or before but it’s definitely a let down. Everything is legible so at least I still have a full book.

Very thin pages, text ink fades if you try to erase something you've written. Worse compared to 2020 in this regard Excellent upgrade in terms of content

A necessary part of step 1 studying

I want to start this review by mentioning that First Aid is a great resource for studying for boards. This review is purely about the poor physical quality of the book's binding. I began reading this yesterday. The center of the book's binding was already "broken", and the central pages are beginning to detach and fall out. Poor binding renders this book useless.

This is a great book for a quick reference. I started medical school this year and it has everything you need in a condensed version of you need some place a little more simple to start. Very organized and a great book

I am a huge fan of first aid, and I always buy every new addition, but the quality of this book is very poor. I've had it 2 days and opened it one time and the back is cover is peeling apart and the pages are extremely thin. Overall very displease and I will be returning. This is not acceptable.

Anyone that is preparing for the USMLE knows that the First Aid series is best in class.

Start using this in the beginning!! First Aid goes great when you use it along with your lectures and other resources while you're learning the material. I had my binding cut off and placed it in a big binder so that I can insert my notes, charts, etc. and have everything all in one place.

When I opened the box that the book was delivered in, there was like a sticky substance all over the book, I don't know what it is, but it looks like spilled coffee or something.

Let the pictures speak for themselves. The other individuals who stated the same are not lying. I should have listened. Some pages are so bad I’m tempted to write over it.

Excited to finally have this book! Slight creasing on the corner,but it could be because it had to travel internationally outside of America. Not really bothered by light creasing too much myself but others might.

this is my first time ever buying an original book, and I really like the paper and ink quality, the book came wo Egypt in a good condition too, well packaged, but payed around 34USD for delivery and taxes etc only 14 USD to amazon the rest in Egypt

Great book for studying for USMLE. A lot of usefull things and mnemonics in it.

First aid has a couple errata here and there so you should either know a topic or double and triple check everything. Works great with the Anking deck though

Written content and information is very useful, however the binding is not good. Binding split within 1 hour of use, while turning to another section. Hardbound book is recommended, if available. Empty unprinted pages found in book.

Hi, guys this is a small message from me to all the Indian citizens who are going to purchase this book, i would suggest you to buy Indian special edition if possible if you are short of money. Pros- This is an international edition, everyone preparing for USMLE is using it. It's imported from USA. Cons- Prices is higher compared to indian edition. Similar to indian edition ( every single page). I personally felt binding of international edition it not good. To people who might be thinking that it's fake because price is less, guys printing in USA is very costly compared to India, this is the main reason for price difference and not the contents because content in both is completely similar.

Trusted Amazon with this product but it's sad to see that even a brand like Amazon can do such a thing, as to send photocopy book with such poor print quality of images and missing pages. So unworthy of customer trust. Compared it with the original book missing pages is not acceptable at all. Completely disatisfied with the services.

Received my book today, and needless to say it turned out really good! I had seen a lot of negative reviews, but still took my chances, surprisingly, the book is in a very good condition and of good quality.

This product is a bad copy of orignal product and costs around 1000 to 1500 inr at local market FA has a barcode by mc graw hills which is present only in orignal one and this doesn't has it Even the book is very heavy Though the quality of paper used is better than orignal But the printing is far worse as most of the images are distorted Please don’t spend your money on this cheap knock off product if you want to buy orignal one go on amazon.com and for the fake one from market as this is heavily overpriced

The book is obviously not genuine with really bad printing. All of the pages have a blue tint which distorts and discolours all of the images. The quality of the pages is also completely different from a real First Aid, which I know because I have purchased one in the past.

Great great great book. I have studied from various sources for neet pg. But this book carried the most important and high yielding stuffs at one place..images and charts and tables are fab! And you can't find better pneumonics than it has!! of all the subjects.. one should study this book for sure to increase the rank. It integrates everything so things that you have learnt till now will make sense .

This book doesn't look to be original McGraw-Hill book. The text and images are faded and don't have quality that we expect from McGraw-Hill books. The front and back covers curl completely within a few days and lose integrity.

This is a fake reprint. None of the images are clear and are faded in print. The pages have shorter margins and are falling apart as I opened the book. I received the book just today. Atleast a 59 pages are damaged and are very crimpled.

Don't buy it..It has very bad paper quality and it looks like photo copy..I paid 4k inr for this book and now I am regretting it..Some of pages are missing and some of pages are in reverse order

The quality of the book is good. Although, I’m disappointed that I paid an extra Rs.1200 for ordering it a week earlier. Wish I had waited a week.
