Matt Smith
Travel with Matt and Karen as they float down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. In September 2016, they experienced the trip of a lifetime with 14 friends and a crew of 10 while traveling in wooden dories through the canyon. Dories, Ho! is a story of their adventure and discovery.

Similar to their first travel memoir Dear Bob and Sue, this book is as much about their relationship as it is their fantastic trip. Matt and Karen’s quirky writing style is both humorous and irreverent. It’s fun, laugh out loud, and an easy read.

While not intended to be a traditional guidebook, anyone contemplating a river trip through the Grand Canyon will benefit from this firsthand account. The reader will feel as if they’ve traveled with the authors on their journey to and through Grand Canyon National Park.

If you are looking for a story that will make you laugh and inspire you to get out and see our incredible national parks, Dories, Ho! is for you.

Love this book

I love this book (and Dear Bob and Sue), and love living vicariously through their adventures. I laughed out loud many times and looked at photos of the Grand Canyon from my family's trips there, wishing I was there. The kindle edition of the book has some editing mistakes toward the end, where the men hiking back to the top are referred to interchangeably as he and she; except for that, the books is fantastic.

Loved!

I've read their other book about the national parks more than once and really looked forward to this book. It did not disappoint. I enjoy their humor and storytelling with some facts and history thrown in. We have friends who made this trip recently so it also gave us a good idea of their time on the river. It may go on our bucket list! This book won't be deleted. It will go in my Saved file. I hope they write many more books!

Love sharing the adventures

I have loved the first two books and read Dories Ho this past weekend enjoying our backyard, Carrabasett Valley Maine. I couldn't put it down. My husband and I visit the National Parks off season, and find we have so many similarities along with searching out some destinations after enjoying these books. Dories Ho allowed us to enjoy the adventure that we have yet to entertain. Highly recommend for those who respect the beauty right in our own country.

Laugh out loud funny and inspirational!

I thoroughly enjoyed Dories, Ho! I was a big fan of the authors’ first book, Dear Bob and Sue, and their second book doesn’t disappoint. I laughed out loud many times and felt like I was right there on the river with them. A float trip through the Grand Canyon is now on my bucket list too! Thanks for the inspiration, Matt and Karen. I’d definitely recommend this book!

Great book! Loved it!

If you are curious to know some practical details about the trips organized through the Grand Canyon and in the meantime, you want to enjoy a funny story, this is your book! You will travel along the Colorado river with the Authors and you will enjoy every day of their trip. Absolutely suggested to anyone interested in the Grand Canyon/Natural Parks stories.

Loved it!!

I totally enjoyed this book. I felt like I was on the river with the group. Although I've had adventures, I've never done anything like this. I was almost as sad as they were at the end of their journey. I hope Matt and Karen give us another adventure soon.

Enjoy the personal comments and vivid descriptions of the trip

Reminds me of my husband and I who take trips through the National Parks and have some of the same comments to each other . Like the packing routine, the sarcastic remarks, so funny. I loved it. Had to orally share some remarks with my husband since it hit so close to home!!!

Great again!!

Loved your book. You make me laugh and I love reading about your travels. My husband and I camp a lot with our adult children and more likely than not your book will come up as we sit around the campfire. Your books are a family affair for us. Thank you so much for sharing with us! Patiently waiting for more books.

Another wonderfully written book from Matt and Karen Smith.

Once again, Matt and Karen Smith have written an entertaining, informative and just plain fun book about their travels in our beautiful country, this time on a trip down the Colorado River. I recommend this book for anyone who loves to travel and experience new adventures. I am living vicariously through their travels and have planned several trips based on their writings of our National Parks and our national treasures. I hope they continue to travel and write about it!

Experiencing through Reading

I enjoyed this book so much just like Dear Bob and Sue. I lived the experiences with Matt and Karen through their words and stories. Their love of our beautiful National Parks and Country have inspired me to make exploring a reality. If you love hiking and the beautiful outdoors, you will love this book.

Wish I Was There

I am halfway through this book on my Kindle and really enjoying it. Makes me want to sign up for this rafting trip. I certainly hope they have another book coming soon.

Easy and interesting read.

I loved the other books written by the authors and wanted to continue reading well written books. I was not disappointed!!!!

Loved this book!

This book is a fun read and I definitely would recommend it, especially if a trip down the Colorado is on your bucket list. Thank you Matt for taking us on your journeys with great humor!

Best ever from Matt and Karen.

I think this is their best work although I wouldn’t miss anything they share. Take a trip down the Colorado River from your couch. Beautiful adventure full of nothing but fun.

A fun and quick light read

I’ve read their first book and couldn’t wait for this one. I appreciate their sense of humor and admire how fit they must be to have these adventures. They inspire us to hike more.

A fun river journey

I always feel as if I am part of the group of friends on the journey when I read a Matt and Karen Smith book, and that makes it truly fun to read.

I laughed so much!

Such a fun, informative and entertaining book. I highly recommend if you are or are not thinking of a Grand Canyon, Colorado River trip. I think I may add it to my bucket list! Thanks for taking the time to publish this book Matt and Karen!

I loved this book

I loved this book! Following the adventures of Matt and Karen as they explore the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in Dories was exciting! Going through rapids was scary but exhilarating! Friendships made were heartfelt and genuine! The scenery was breathtaking! I probably won't be this adventuresome, but I could certainly picture this trip and live it through them! Read it and enjoy!

Our trip through the Grand Canyon

Read this over the weekend and felt I was actually on this cool trip. Everything you need to know about taking wooden boats through the Grand Canyon with 20+ people and some funny things you don't. Get their book about visiting all of the national parks, too. They're on a roll!

She LOVED it!

Bought as a gift. She LOVED it!

Love love love this funny book!

Another laugh out loud book from Matt and Karen Smith. Felt I was traveling down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with them and their friends. Makes me want to take the same trip! Well written and a great summer vacation read. Can’t wait for their second Dear Bob and Sue to be available.

Must read

As always, the book written by the Smiths is amazing. LOVE it!

Yep. You’ll laugh out loud!

Loved every minute of this entertaining account of the aurhor’s trip. I have a feeling that the O.A.R.S river trip company is going to be very busy in the future. This book will absolutely make you want to take this trip!

Very enjoyable read

Great book! Informative, inspiring, and humorous...all at the same time. Matt and Karen Smith are excellent story tellers!

Exciting trip on the Colorado River!

I loved this book. Very descriptive of trip on the Colorado River! Excellent Combination of humor and fact!

Love it!

This is just as delightful as Dear Bob and Sue. I hope they keep traveling and writing about it.

Fun River Book

This is a fun and quick read. Have read it twice.

Love Matt's humor!

A fun read about something that I will never do. So it was fun to read about it and even better to go to the website and see spectacular pictures!

Great read

I ordered this as a gift for my mom. She was so excited! Great read

Terrific adventures through the National Parks.

Read two of the Smith’s other books. Enjoyed

Plenty of insight.

Enjoy ed the writing style. With plans of floating the river next year it nice to get some information and insight in what to expect.

Great Read!

Liked this as much as their first book.

brings back great memories.

So enjoyable to read, especially when you've done the trip yourself!......brings back great memories.

A grand Grand Canyon adventure.

It was as if you were there in the dory with them for the whole trip. And I wish I had been...maybe one day.

A winner

Really enjoyed! I've been to the canyon but never the river journey --now I feel like I have. Thanks Matt & Karen.

Makes me want to go rafting

Another humorous book from Matt and Karen. Having gone on the river before, I could really imagine where they were and the rapids they discussed. The book makes me want to go on the river again. If you’ve never been I think if you are the adventurous sort, the book will make you want to go. Having done the entire river, I suggest that instead of only to Phantom Ranch.

Interesting account of GC river voyage

You feel like you're on vacation with the Smiths, Is the best part about this book. Now I truly know what a Grand Canyon river trip is like. However, after reading Dear Bob and Sue, the first season, the rest of the series and this one do not compare. Season one is the best, and after that, the writing seemed to change. In college writing classes, we were always instructed not to allow the quotes to be your story. The narrative is most important......quotes should be used only when the person speaking says something in a different or profound way. Unfortunately, in the books after Season 1, the quotes are over abundant and mundane, and the dialogue seems forced. Most of what was put in quotes would have been better paraphrased. It's as if the editor, after season 1, said, "Matt, let's see more dialogue!" And so, unnecessary dialogue was created. I hope, if they write again, they return to the pithy style expressed in season 1.

Gread Adventure!

When the blurb says "laugh out loud funny" I'm a skeptic, but it's true. I laughed out loud numerous times. I enjoyed this book on many levels. Besides being of similar age, place in life, great 30-year marriage, a hiker and National Park enthusiast, like the authors, I am scheduled to take a GC OARS dory trip in 5 months. So I'm reading everything I can get my hands on to prepare. I took a lot of notes while reading but will undoubtedly read the book again. I love how Karen spent the whole nearly 2 years preparing, buying and choosing, just like I have. Trying to step back, I think anyone would enjoy this book, perhaps especially someone who may never get the chance to float the GC. It is foremost, a travelog, telling the tale of a great adventure. Secondly it's a tale of marriage, friendship and stepping away from life for a bit. Finally, it's a must-read for a first-timer on a GC float trip. My three top books for anyone doing a GC Float are "The Emerald Mile," "There's this River" and this book, "Dories, Ho."

Terrific Read

Different from the 1st book (which was great & the reason I got the 2nd) in that it didn't have as many belly laughs, but it was so entertaining. I felt like I was with them on the trip. Absolutely loved the book.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

For anyone who has an interest in reading first hand experiences of outdoor adventures through the experience of a mid life couple, this is for you!! There are plenty of books out there by tge 20 somethings that are inspirational, if you have the stamina and life commitments (or lack tgere of) to maje ut woek at that age. Colorado River is a bucket list item for me personally that may not get the check off due to early onset of health problems. I laughed at the real life humor included in these adventures as Matt laughed at himself. I also enjoyed their previous book, Dear Bob and Sue.

What a travel take on the river!

This couple really captures the feel of the places they travel. I felt like I was on the trip with them enjoying the sights, thrills and people. It was laugh out loud funny in spots. And I was sad when it ended.

Another great book written by Matt and Karen Smith!

After reading Matt and Karen's other book, Dear Bob and Sue, I knew I'd love this one too. It did not disappoint! Not only did it feel like I was on the trip with them, I laughed out loud throughout the entire book. I love their sense of humor and how they incorporated a little history of canyon into the story as well. Seeing the Grand Canyon is on my very long bucket list and now that I've read this book, I think I'd rather experience it from the river than just viewing it from the top. I really enjoyed this book and I was sad when I finished it. I'm looking forward to their next book!

Another great adventure with Matt & Karen

Another great adventure with Matt & Karen! Having hiked/camped in many of our national parks, also with my husband, I thoroughly enjoyed their first book, Dear Bob and Sue. Dories, Ho was another fantastic adventure and I loved all the history and details you included about the trip, boats, canyon, and people. This book made me even more excited for our 2019 trip on the lower canyon. You are both an inspiration to getting people out to explore this beautiful country! Looking forward to more books from you, they make me smile!

Get your river experience here.

I've been down the Grand Canyon in a regular big raft with about 25 women. It was such fun to do it again with Bob and Karen. If you want an adventure but can't do it personally their books are the best. They are so funny.

Delightful!

Read all 4 of their books. Enjoyed every single one. I read parts of the book out loud to my husband and he wanted to know how the story ended too. I started referring to Matt and Karen as "my people" whenever I was referencing something in the books. Being a National Park Geek, these books are what I hope to achieve!

Don't miss this!!

This book is a delight! Many years ago, I took a raft trip down the Colorado and this was like doing all over again! Descriptions are true and humor is laugh out loud funny. I enjoyed Dorries, Ho! as much as Dear Bob and Sue. I highly recommend both books. Looking forward to your next adventures!

Heart Warming

The fact that men and women exist in our modern world that are still preserving Mother Earth’s gifts for all to enjoy is a joy that knows no end! Love u Matt & Karen Thank You !

Awesome adventure

I was sorry when it ended. Such a great story. You feel you were actually there for the trip. I want to go! I love the amount of respect the crew had for the canyon and the river. Great ambassadors for the park.

Funny and informative

Matt and Karen are just a fun couple to read about and they have some pretty cool friends. Enjoyable reading. Also recommend Dear Bob and Sue and Dear Bob and Sue Season 2. Lots of laughs.

Very funny

If you've ever thought about paddling the Colorado through the Grand Canyon, or if you simply enjoy a sweet adventure read, you'd love this book. I found myself laughing out loud in many parts. It was so enjoyable!

Loved it!

A fun trip in the Grand Canyon!

NotDear Bob and Sue but an entertaining read

I felt like I was on a Dorie traveling down the Colorado river. Excellent descriptions although before trip seemed longer than needed to be. Not as much of the humor as in their first book, easy informative read.

Great Read!

Having read their other books I was afraid I would not enjoy this book as well. I was greatly surprised that it is just as enjoyable. Thanks Matt and Karen.

if you can't experience the trip personally, this is the next best thing.

Loved the book. They do such a good job of making readers feel they are with them experiencing the trip.

Groovy!

Er, groover, didn’t sound so bad after all! Thanks for taking me along on the journey my mom has always wanted to do, now I know why!

Great read!

Loved this book! Laugh out loud funny. The banter between husband and wife was hilarious and reminded me of my own life.

Great read !

Another great read by Matt and Karen Smith. The descriptions of their adventures through the National parks are sprinkled throughout with their wit and humor. Don’t pass this one up!

Just as entertaining as your first book.

Just as entertaining as your first book. Keep the stories coming. The stories make me feel like I am right there with you.

"Dear Bob and Sue" authors write another humorous book!

So excited to have another book out by these witty authors, Matt and Karen Smith! Couldn't put the book down and found myself laughing out loud throughout. Thoughtful, relatable, informative, hysterical, engaging and inspirational- eager to book our once in a lifetime Dory trip through the Grand Canyon. Keep adventuring and keep writing, PLEASE.

Fun Adventure!

Laugh out loud while enjoying the fun adventures of Matt and Karen! Another great book!
