Loved it!
I'm tempted to say this is the best Andy Carpenter book ever, but I might feel that because it is the most recent. Even if you haven't read any others in the series, I believe you will like this book. The story is exceptionally good with surprises revealed in the last few pages. I believe it could be read as a stand-alone and thoroughly enjoyed. I am an avid Rosenfelt fan and enjoy the humor sprinkled in the books. Dr. Dowling, real-life veterinarian, makes another appearance in this book, and author Rosenfelt gets a mention. I am eagerly awaiting the first book about Laurie's new team. If you are a dog person and haven't read the two non-fiction books, "Dog Tripping" and "Lessons From Tara", you absolutely need to read them immediately! I believe anyone who reads this book as their first Andy Carpenter book will want to read the whole series. Usually in a book series, some are better than others. In the Andy Carpenter books I think they are all great. This book and all the other books get your interest right away and keep it throughout the book. No slow boring parts to contend with. An added benefit if you are a dog person is that in buying David Rosenfelt books, you are helping buy beds and kibble for the senior dogs the Rosenfelt household rescues.
Title not the story
Downloaded this book mainly based on the title "Dachshund Through the Snow". My granddaughter told me about it after seeing an ad for the book on Facebook, because the dog on the cover looks like the dachshund I had for 13 years until he died almost a year ago. Based on the title I thought the story was going to be a mystery involving a dachshund. There is a dachshund in the story, Murphy, who belongs to a boy whose father is tried for a murder that occurred 14 years ago. However he is mentioned less than occasionally throughout the book with no involvement in the plot. I enjoyed the book though, but disappointed that the dachshund wasn't involved more in the storyline as the title implied.
A Christmas season to love...
Every time I read a book by David Rosenfelt, I know that I will not stop until the last sentence. So, I wait until I have a couple of free hours and I have never been disappointed. The Andy Carpenter series combines two of my favorite things, humour and love of dogs. In fact, I wish Willie could train every shelter, pound and pet store worker his high standards of selection and his no nonsense way of letting the inferior know to leave and leave quickly. Unfortunately, he did not have a big presence in this book..but start at the beginning of the series and you will get the gist. The more controversial the case, the more ridiculous Andy Carpenter can make it but his wonderful, Tara, keeps him somewhat in check. This book has one difference, it sets up a spin off series, the K Team. I love the characters, he dogs and the cases. All scream of heart and innocence. The best aspect of this particular book is the length of Andy and Laurie's Christmas season, I wish I could have been adopted because three months sounds like the season I would like to have..the spirit of giving to those less fortunate, a worthy cause. Read to enjoy but he warned once hooked, this author will become one of your guilty pleasures, too.
A Let Down
I have read most of the Andy Carpenter Mystery Series. Like many series, there comes a time when the book just seems like the author phoned it in. This book was very repetitive. The author wrote what happened, then he told someone what happened then the same details were told again at trial. He also mused about the same details and events to himself. So, basically, I read the same details and events over and over and over. SPOILER ALERT: The plots have become the same in each book as well. He does not want to represent the person, he represents the person, he almost gets killed, the trial comes before he has all the answers, in the last moment he gets the answers and saves the day. I gave two stars because there was still some humor. I would save my money and skip this book.
A kid’s Christmas wish leads to a dramatic murder trial
Andy Carpenter is at it again — annoying lots of people, delaying retirement to reluctantly defend an accused murderer, and having his life saved several times over by people (and a dog) far braver than him. The story begins with Andy’s wife Laurie and her obsession with Christmas. She pulls a kid’s wish list off a tree, resolved to fulfill his wishes, and one of his wishes is to bring Dad home. Laurie looks into it and finds out that Dad has been arrested for a murder committed fourteen years earlier. The case rests on incontrovertible DNA evidence. Andy is condemned by Laurie to defend Noah Traynor in the spirit of Christmas. Andy’s investigation uncovers a plethora of surprises. There are plenty of trigger-happy bad guys behind the scenes — and a very clever person manipulating everything. The court scenes are dramatic. Andy’s team and his wisecracking friends exhibit all their usual eccentricities. The humor is corny, but pretty funny. The title of this book makes me cringe. But I couldn’t help enjoying the book. The Andy Carpenter plots tend to follow a formula, but it’s a good formula, and I find the stories entertaining anyway.
Hilarious and Moving Legal Thriller
I so do like the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt. Each is complete and no one has to read all the previous books in the series to enjoy any one of them (although it's a lot more fun). There is always plenty of Andy's hilarious trade mark sarcasm and wit; I laughed out loud at times. Some years the book has a Christmas theme, and so this one came along. It was really a good read - if you like legal thrillers, this is one with plenty of authentic court room scenes. It doesn't just pay lip service to the Christmas season, either. There's lots to enjoy about how the Carpenters celebrate the season. At it's core, though, this is, as always, about the dogs. Any has a rescue and always has about 25 dogs for adoption. This particular outing has him saving a Dachshund named Murphy and being saved by a big dog named Simon. I loved it. It also has an interesting twist at the end; the bad guy isn't who you might have suspected. I am able to guess whodunit in a lot of the mysteries I read, but I didn't get this one! Pick it up for yourself or for a friend. You won't be sorry.
Another great story!
Another great addition to the Andy Carpenter mystery series by David Rosenfeldt. I’ve read all of these books in the order they were written, and each one is interesting, funny, and heartwarming. The storyline and humorous delivery always keep me turning the pages till I have finished the latest book. And now it looks like there will be another series – The K-Team – which I will look forward to with anticipation!
It never gets old
Familiar David Rosenfelt tropes are in play in book #20 of his Andy Carpenter series, “Dachshund Through the Snow”—dogs and kids, Christmas, problematic cases, ruthless villains, great trial moments. And it all works. What is novel is the formation of the K Team, an investigative unit comprised of ex-cop Corey Douglas, his dog Simon, Andy Carpenter’s wife Laurie, and the indomitable Marcus. But this book is still Andy’s.
Another great Andy Carpenter thriller!
I love his style of writing. He has lighthearted comments throughout. His plots are always well thought out and complicated. Andy Carpenter’s team are a unusual cast of characters that add much to the story.I have read everyone of Rosenfelt’s books and have enjoyed them all. When I finish one I always check to see when the next one is coming out.
Another excellent book!
This is another great book by David Rosenfelt. I have read the whole series of Andy Carpenter books and have yet to be disappointed! This book keeps you turning the pages quick and keeps you guessing who did it until the very end! My only complaint is in the Kindle version of his books there aren't chapters. I'll be reading along and then all of a sudden we are with new people! It's a little annoying😬 but still one of my favorite authors!

EXCELLENT!!!
I am a dog lover, especially Dachshunds. Loved all the characters, so well written, lots of humor and a very good story. I am going to buy the rest of the Andy Carpenter Mysteries as soon as I submit this. P.S. The book cover is adorable! - looks like our first Dachshund!
Another Brilliant Andy Carpenter novel
David Rosenfelt is a wonderful story teller and "Dachshund Thorough The Snow", an Andy Carpenter Mystery was book number 20 in the series. Very enjoyable read and it introduced us to another character and spin off involving some of the same characters we've come to love and enjoy. I started reading the newest and first (hopefully) in the new K-9 mystery series and so far, I'm already hooked.
Dash for this novel!
David Rosenfelt has produced another hilarious, yet moving Andy Carpenter mystery. The cold case is great to follow with dead bodies galore (but not overly gory), and Laurie's Christmas from Halloween until February creed is such a bone of contention for the ever cowardly (but brilliant) Andy. A must for all the fans of the series. Highly recommended.
A Doggone Good Carpenter Mystery
While the dachshund plays second fiddle to the sort of large dog Andy prefers, Carpenter returns to solving a good old fashioned murder mystery that doesn't involve his resent penchant for New Jersey mobsters. What isn't missing is the wit and even out-loud-laughter you expect from this wonderful, "can't put it down" series. Of course, the usual supporting cast of cohorts surrounds the lawyer who doesn't want to take the case and is frequently there to bend the law and save his neck. It's Rosenfelt at his best.
A Romp through the Legal System & Court
This book was a 1st person romp through a murder case that becomes quite complicated. The plot was predictable, & the interminable dissertation by the narrator, Andy Carpenter, made it tiresome. The 1st person dialogue seemed to hint at humor, but was actually mundane.
One of the best
This book was a great read. Rosenfelt is one of the best writers today. This Andy Carpenter series has many delightful facets. His self effacing humor is delightful. The mystery has many twists and there's always a surprise at the the end. And there's the added bonus of the dogs and their cute antics. I was sad to see this book end.
Very Entertaining
The series is pretty much the same thing over and over, but the stories are entertaining. Character development is fair but far from great. The action often is hard to believe. But the beauty of these stories is that we always get into the courtroom and the playoff between Andy and his opponent always is fun.
NOT about dachshunds
Bought this book to read the interaction between the dogs and their humans. This only rarely happened; even the Dachshund in the title was barely in the store. The story was about an unsolved murder mystery , which was ok, but hardly anything involving the dogs. Don't bother with this book if you want to read a story about dogs!!!
Amazing as always
I love the David Rosenfeld books. Andy Carpenter is a smart funny main character. His friends are unusual and intriguing. The plots keep me glued until the end. Andy's ( David's) love and compassion for dogs seals the deal!
Loved it!!
My first Andy Carpenter book, but certainly not my last!! Ordering more!! :D :D :D
Great book
I always find these books well written, interesting, funny as well as intriguing. Love the characters and of course, the dogs!
Title doesn't fit!
Story okay but title of book seems inappropriate. I kept expecting title to connect to story line but never did.
Great as always
Andy Carpenter's snarky, sarcasm is as humorous as always. I love all the books in the Carpenter series. The plot is well thought out and well developed and the characters are equally so. Explore the series if you haven't already.
Fun read!
And yet another entertaining Andy Carpenter book with a heart. Every book follows a similar formulary, and this book is no exception. But, as an AC fan, I can't get enough of another month in the life of this crime solving family. Loved it.
Attaboy “K” Team,
I like the Andy Carpenter books. They’re interesting, fast paced and with reasonable plots, characterizations and outcomes. This one had me almost perturbed until after the trial but it’s a long interesting haul to the story behind the story. Enjoy
Worth the wait
I love this book. I love David Rosenfelt’s writing. I have read them all and every time it’s like being back with old friends.Buy the book . You won’t be disappointed. I wish I had another one. ( Deep sigh. )
David Rosenfelt's Best Book Yet!
This book was unputdownable for me. It kept you guessing right from the start and took you on a ride to the great ending. David just keeps evolving and I truly love this series with Andy Carpenter and his gang.
Wonderful
This series continues to expand its cast of extremely interesting characters, ensconced in a terrific plot. I love everything about Andy's stories, especially his droll humor. What a fun read.
Fantastic
I read my first Andy Carpenter novel many years ago because there was a dog on the cover. I have read everyone since then. Words can't express how good these books are and what a good feeling they leave you with.
Read every Andy Carpenter book!
As always, Andy Carpenter is a charming and very funny character. Actually all the characters are great and the way Rosenfeld writes you feel like they are all your friends you want to hang out with.
Excellent!
Rosenfelt never disappoints me. He is witty, clever and a dog lover to the core. Story lines are never predictable, and each book is savored. Well done!
Fun book
Love the Andy Carpenter series, and this does not disappoint. Book arrived promptly and in excellent condition.
Loved it as usual
Andy did it still again....a good story, old friends just enough mystery to keep me guessing....thanks for more great entertainment. Can't wait for another.
Good read
I like the casual writing style with wit. A nice crime story that’s got some surprises and intrigue without being gory. And to have pups included is just too much fun.
One of My Favorite Characters
I love Andy Carpenter. He's funny, he has a good heart. And he always defends the underdog (no pun intended), as long as they are really innocent. Light reading and no long drawn out court cases. But always a good plot.
A really fun book
I got this as a gift for a coworker who loves Dachshunds and is an avid reader. He liked it so much that he is ordering the author's other books!
Andy is a superb lawyer
I love this book series. Andy and group are so interesting. Great book for this time of year. And I think one of the best. Would highly recommend
Average
The book did not grab my attention in the beginning, was somewhat interesting in the middle and ho-hum at the very end. Teenagers may like this book.
never a dull moment

Another delightful story
I love these characters and the story development never disappoints.
Ok but not great
The storyline is good but he seems to repeat so many of his typical phrases that it is almost like he’s just phoning them in.
Loved this book.
Like all of the Andy Carpenter books, it has warmth, humor, an excellent plot, and dogs!! This is my favorite. I highly recommend!!
Good read
The story runs fast and the characters are great. Love the interaction between the characters. Good fun. Good story good read
Another entertaining book by David Rosefelf!
Once again Andy Carpenter comes through with humor and dry wit. Apologies to Bing Crosby but I loved this book! It also sets up Rosenfelt fans for his new detective series. Can’t wait for that!

how it was written
To read it was great.
Excellent as always!
I don't think there is one book by David Rosenfelt that I have not read and enjoyed.
Good mystery
Although the end was surprising, there were clues early on. I like that. I also like that all characters played a role either in solving the case or adding levity to the story. Author's humor was helpful in adding lightness to the story.
Great story with a little bit of humor
Gifted to my wife who loved it- great story with a touch of humor.
Great book.
Great book. I love all of his Andy Carpenter mysteries. Can’t wait for the next one.
Great anytime read, cold winter night, warm beach etc.
Enjoyed the story. I think I have read them all. The stories are enjoyable mystery/crime with wonderful characters. You don’t have to like dogs to read them, but it is a bonus if you do.

“Laughing all the way”
Andy Carpenter is a very reluctant lawyer, but he adores his wife Laurie and can’t say no when she urges him to take on two new cases. The first involves Corey Douglas, a local cop with whom Andy has a bad history. Andy would have no trouble rejecting Douglas as a client, but it is his partner who needs the help, Douglas’ K-9 partner, a German shepherd named Simon. The second case grows out of a Christmas tradition that Laurie enjoys, getting Christmas wish lists that children turn into a local store and fulfilling them. There is no problem getting little Danny Traynor a coat for his dachshund, but what Danny wants for himself is for his daddy to come home. Unfortunately, Noah Traynor is hiding to avoid being arrested for a murder that occurred fourteen years ago. Andy and his quirky-but-effective team are back in business! Dachshund through the Snow is the 20th book in the Andy Carpenter series. Andy and his gang have many fans like me who have read and enjoyed every one of them, and no doubt we all start each new addition with the same questions in mind: Can he pull it off AGAIN? Can he keep up the entertainment at the same high level we have come to expect? And most important, can Rosenfelt devise another new dog situation to tie into the story? The answers are Yes, Yes, and Yes. If you are new to the series, you can enjoy this book without reading any of the others, but I would suggest you read the first book, Open and Shut, to get the background for Andy’s team and their circumstances, after which you can enjoy them in any order. For the record, my husband, who is not normally a fan of mysteries, disagrees and says you should read them i order to watch relationships develop. But we agree that you should read them! So why is Andy Carpenter so popular? I think there must be a federal law that mysteries set in New Jersey are required to be funny, in which case David Rosenfelt is a MODEL citizen! Andy narrates the books, and they are full of his wry comments on humanity. These provoke lots of smiles and chuckles, but they are never mean, and the comments are very likely to be self-deprecating, such as when he goes to a meeting and says “Laurie has come along just in case the situation requires any tact or human decency.” Despite his comment above, another hallmark feature of the series is the warmth and humanity of the characters. With the exception of the bad guys, these people act like real people; they care. Andy worries that if he does not succeed, “then a person I believe to be innocent is going to be in prison for the rest of his life. I am not crazy about many things in lawyering, especially the intense work that comes with each and every case, but the worst part is this fear.” This warmth is not just directed at humans. The love of dogs is a pervasive element, although the dogs in the books do not normally participate in the crime solving. They are much too busy acting like dogs, even when they have to go to court. Readers may love Andy, but his antics in court are not appreciated by the opposition or the judges. The courtroom drama is well-done, and with two cases in hand, Andy gets to annoy two sets of opposing attorneys and two judges. As the book ends, two new members have been added to Andy’s investigator team, and the team has even given itself a name. Andy may be a reluctant lawyer, but it is clear he will be around to delight readers like me in the future. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance review copy of this book.
A well-done legal mystery with plenty of twists and suspense.
First Sentence: It has been almost fourteen years since Kristen McNeil's body was discovered. A tag on a Christmas charity wish tree leads attorney Andy Carpenter and his wife Laurie to a young boy wanting his father Noah Traynor to be brought home. The murder, for which Noah has been arrested, was a cold case until his DNA is identified on the victim's body. In the meantime, K-9 officer Sergeant Corey Douglas is about to retire, but his dog, Simon, still has time left to work. Corey wants Andy to help him get Simon released to retire with him. Andy agrees to represent Simon on the basis of species discrimination. How refreshing when characters defy stereotype. Laurie, Andy's wife, is the type of person one aspires to be; kind, generous, compassionate toward people. She is an ex-cop, and very capable of taking care of herself and Andy. Andy, on the other hand, is a lawyer who keeps trying to retire from the law and is passionate about dogs. As a self-described weakling, he depends upon Laurie and the indomitable Marcus to protect him. There are interludes of Andy at home with his family and friends, yet they avoid the over-sentimentality such interaction can bring about. Rosenfelt's courtroom scenes are a pleasure to read. They are well presented and honest, even when the client is decidedly unusual. He creates an excellent analogy likening a court case to a mountain climb such as Mt. Everest, and through it introduces the rest of Andy's quirky and memorable team. It is always tragic when someone young dies. It is appreciated when Rosenfelt acknowledges one of the great sorrows of such a death--'It also once again highlights the terrible loss that occurred when her best friend died; Kristen might have gone on to bring other people into the world or cure some disease or just do kind things for people that needed kindness." The story includes alternative POVs but only when needed to move the plot forward by characters other than the protagonist. Rosenfelt creates a plot which seems simple but grows into something more complicated and more dangerous as it progresses. Be aware; despite the cute dog on the cover, this is not a cozy. Rosenfelt does like his body count, but the scenes aren't particularly gory. He is also very good at the unexpected, and very effective, plot twist, and a fun mention which lightens the situation. The dialogue is so well written, the courtroom exchanges come alive. Along with the on-going outside investigation, in which there is a very nice escalation of suspense, plot twist, and an excellent red herring, one feels the anticipation of awaiting the jury's decision. "Dachshund Through the Snow" is a well-done legal mystery with plenty of twists and suspense. A very nice aftermath hints at the future of the series. Great Fun to Listen To
Dachshund Through The Snow was a fun read, especially during the Christmas season. It was my first David Rosenfelt book, and I’m looking forward to reading others in this series about defense attorney Andy Carpenter now. I enjoyed this book very much; I listened to the audio book actually, and Grover Gardener did a superb job of conveying the humor and sarcasm of Carpenter and the various characters who assisted him in investigating and preparing his legal cases or those he encountered as he put his case together and went to trial. There is a dachshund in the story who plays a very minor role, so the title was a bit misleading, but the plot was interesting—two very different pro bono legal cases, with high stakes in one. The book is a good criminal defense attorney procedural, which moved along at the right pace, with excellent dialog and great humor. I laughed out loud at times, thanks to Grover Gardener’s excellent narration.
Rich lawyer sleuth
Andy Carpenter is a rich lawyer with a beautiful ex-cop wife and a son. He only takes on cases when he wants to—which, thanks to his wife and friends, is a lot more often than he cares for. The case in this story is about a murder that happened fourteen years ago. The victim was a young woman, strangled. Her killer was never found but police think they have their man now as DNA evidence became available. Like most perps, he swears he didn’t do it, but she had his skin under her fingernails. In investigating, Andy runs into a lot more than he bargained for, including an assassin wanted by Interpol. This was an interesting book—different from most cozy mysteries. Those usually have an amateur sleuth who wants to find the killer. In this one, Andy is a lawyer with lots of experience and a team of investigators to back him up. There were lots of possible bad guys and reasons for the girl’s murder. I will say I was surprised by the end as the villain wasn’t who I expected—which is a good thing. I’m usually much better at figuring that out. Things I liked: it was unique with the lawyer/cop wife. There were a lot of twists and turns to keep you interested. It’s also different to have a sleuth who doesn’t want to be a sleuth. He wants nothing to do with the case, but goes into it determined to win. I loved Andy’s dogs and his wry humor. Things I didn’t like: the skipping from first person when we’re with Andy, to third person at times when with other parties. Sometimes I wasn’t sure who I was with except when I was with Andy. Plus, it was a little slow at times. Recommendation: If you’re looking for something different than the usual amateur sleuth cozy, I’d definitely pick this one up. I received this book for free from the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest review.
Fun Read
This is a fun, feel-good story that also has depth and complexity. Written in first person from Andy Carpenter's perspective, the narration has undeniable honesty. Andy isn't a badass superhero. He isn't even particularly brave, which he freely acknowledges, and so he surrounds himself with brave badasses. His wife Laurie, however, is a take-charge badass, and I love this sort of role reversal. The plot is part mystery and part courtroom drama. We follow Andy and his team as they investigate a case that puts them in danger, even when they aren't sure where the pieces are leading them. The pace is quick, with short chapters and a gradual unfolding of the complete picture. Andy's humor and the overall tone make this a light read, but beneath the surface we're given much to consider. While this is book 20 in the series, it reads perfectly as a stand-alone. *I received a review copy from the publisher.*
A holiday treat
Dachshund through the Snow: David Rosenfelt A simple letter to Santa would change everything for little boy named Danny whose wishes just might come true. Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife ,Laurie have a special Christmas tradition. How about if their local pet store has a Christmas tree but it has no ornaments. It has wishes from people in need. Danny Traynor whose wish touches both Andy and Laurie asking for a coat for his mother, a sweater for his dachshund named Murphy and a safe return of his missing father. The first two were easy but the last would take them down a dark and dangerous path as his father does not want to be found but is eventually arrested for an old murder that happened 14 years ago of Kristin McNeil whose body was found about 100 yards from Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, near the Great Falls. Noah Traynor is attested for the murder, but his wife swears he’s innocent. As author David Rosenfelt takes us to the scene of the murder and walks us through the way it might have happened Andy has a hard decision to make. Take his case or not? But with his team of Sam who can hack into anything anywhere. Hike Lynch is the lawyer working with him. Marcus is an investigator and enforcer you don’t mess with him. Taking the case created problems as someone was out there doing surveillance and Andy had to figure out who this person was following, and it was him. George Taillon hired Fred Siroka to follow Andy and both were hired by Charles Arrant who eliminated them both as collateral damage. Things heat up even more when Andy must approach Pete Stanton at the police department hoping to share information, but Andy’s sarcasm rules the meeting and he learns a limited amount to help defend his client. First, we need to talk about retiring Sergeant Corey Douglas and his K9 partner . Simon. Corey wants Simon to retire with him instead of grunt moved to a different division. Simon has a touch of arthritis and eventually it will get worse as a K9 dog in the drug division having to move faster and hopefully not be more in pain. In the style of Andy Carpenter using every resource, having Sam research every law and going in front of a judge he hopes will listen, will Simon get a reprieve and be allowed to retire along with Corey? Wait until you enter the courtroom and watch Andy in an action . Murders escalate as we learn about Kyle Wainwright her boyfriend and the fact that Kristin was seeing the defendant. Did he kill her? Evidence proves his DNA was present in many places, yet others have paid the price in the course of the investigation. Arrant hired Siroka and Taillon but someone else was pulling his strings and paid him quite a huge amount to follow Andy and take him down. Why would an international criminal be involved after eluding the law in several countries? Mitch Holzer gave up his name who killed him too. NetLink System is the successful company Kristin worked for. Why did she quit? What transpired when she met with Noah? How does this company and Arthur Wainwright the head come into play? Just what does this company sell and to whom? Who was the older man that Kristin was seeing? Andy has many roads to cross before it hopefully becomes clear. The trial leaves the jury and readers wondering why several people never came forward and why someone close to Kyle is worried about the outcome. Is Arthur Wainwright’s business into something illegal? Why is Andy going to be on the crosshairs of danger again? The questions he asks as a skilled attorney are well crafted allowing readers to witness a real courtroom scene and two opposing attorneys in action. Andy is tough and his first-person narrative allows readers to follow his thoughts and understand and track his moves. But will he fill Danny’s third wish? A trial that will stun readers and help you understand why Andy is such a smart, clever and astute litigator with a team like Sam who can hack into everything, Marcus that anyone would want for protection, despite their difference Captain Pete Stanton at times is an ally and the final reveal and how he puts it together you won’t see coming. Laurie has a surprise for him as she, Simon, Corey and Marcus are not a team forming an investigative agency called K Team and will be headed for us to learn more about in March. The journeys are just beginning, the final outcomes left unsaid as Andy must face off with a cold-blooded killer in order to alleviate his guilt, reconcile his wrongs and find a way to write them. With Simon heading the final scenes what more can you ask for in an Andy Carpenter five-star novel! The verdict is in but it’s far from over because the killer is still out there. A letter found 14 years later, a business that was running an illegal operation and information gotten in order to spy on clients as Andy won’t rest until the truth comes out and the final revelations are revealed as once again author David Rosenfelt keeps us wondering, in suspense and highly charged to find the answers that might help bring Danny’s father home, the right killer caught and a Merry Christmas for Murphy our special Dachshund through the snow!
Good!
Another great David Rosenfelt book! In this one, Andy Carpenter, well-to-do lawyer and dog lover defends two clients. The first is a police K-9, who the police are not allowing to retire, though his handler is retiring. They plan to transfer Simon, the K-9, to drug enforcement and a new handler. His handler thinks this move will put Simon at a disadvantage. He already had arthritis, and all the standing the new job will require will only exacerbate the condition. Naturally, Andy goes to bat for Simon, the K-9, suing the police department for discrimination against a species. The question is whether Andy will win, or whether Simon will be stuck in the drug enforcement division. The other case involves a cold-case murder. In this case, Andy defends a once youth now older man in a case where he is accused of killing a young woman years ago. Andy, as usual, spends his time tracking down leads and interviewing people involved to ferret out the clues from the red herrings, all to prove that the man is innocent. This case, however, involves much more than life in Patterson, NJ, as the story’s tentacles spread out far beyond. This is another great addition to the series by the author. In this one, unlike some of the others, dogs figure more prominently, as it should be. (I read the books for the dogs and miss them when they are barely mentioned.) Andy and his lovely wife are as competent and professional as usual. The rest of Andy’s crew also figure prominently. In this case, Simon, the K-9 and his handler, also figure prominently, and will, I suspect, become a fixture in future books. I enjoyed reading the book. The setting is the Christmas holidays, but there is not much about the holidays in the book beyond the setting, so don’t pick it up expecting a Christmas story. Followers of other books in the series will enjoy this one. If you haven’t read any others, this can be read as a stand-alone and will probably capture your interest to seek out others in the series. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
Makes me wish that Tara and Sebastian could just save everyone.
“Dachshund Through the Snow” by David Rosenfelt is the latest Andy Carpenter adventure, and an adventure it is. New readers will be immediately pulled into the story through the compelling opening. Regular readers will find the whole familiar gang Andy Carpenter, wife Laurie, son Ricky, and of course dogs Tara and Sebastian, all anticipating the upcoming holiday/football season. Rosenfelt’s characters are affable, relaxed, likeable, and yet focused and diligent when necessary. The first person narrative by Carpenter is a little self-deprecating, a little sarcastic, very humorous, and always focused on his dogs, other peoples’ dogs, and, actually, just the wellbeing of dogs in general. This is an absorbing detective story with a challenging client, and complicated adversaries, however, when the chips are down, Carpenter rises to the occasion with excellent intuition, focused investigative skills, and brilliant (in his opinion) legal tactics to save the day for all. The entire Andy Carpenter series is just entertaining to read, and “Dachshund Through the Snow” is no exception. Rosenfelt includes plenty of Carpenter’s trademark humor and dedication to justice with a dash of violence but without buckets of blood and gore. There is also a fun product placement for Rosenfelt’s other books; “He also has two books on the night table, including a thriller by David Rosenfelt, who I hear is terrific.” I received a review copy of “Dachshund Through the Snow” from David Rosenfelt and St Martin’s Press. It is compelling, suspenseful, and makes me wish that Tara and Sebastian could just save everyone.
It is a humorous legal thriller set in a dog-filled cozy mystery world!
Andy, the perpetually retiring defense lawyer, gets sucked into two cases involving dogs in the fun cozy mystery, Dachshund Through the Snow. Andy is asked by an old cop frenemy to find a way to get the city to allow the cop’s K-9 partner, Simon, to retire with him in a few weeks. Simon has arthritis and could be hurt if he continues to work. So Andy sues the city alleging that Simon is a city employee who should be able to disability retire. It really is a case of species discrimination! Laurie, Andy’s wife and an ex-police lieutenant, starts celebrating Christmas in November. So it is no surprise when she selects a wish off a tree in her local pet store. The child requestor, Danny, wants three gifts: a winter coat for his mother, another coat for his dachshund, and his dad to come home. The coats are no problem. Unfortunately, Danny’s dad is accused killer, Noah. Fourteen years earlier, he met Kristen at a bar. After a few dates on the down low, they meet in a remote spot. Kristen asks Noah to take her with him when he leaves for college in a few days. When Noah refuses, Kristen becomes distraught and accidentally scratches his face. He leaves. He finds out that she is killed later that night. Fourteen years later, Noah’s brother spits into a genealogy website’s test tube and Noah is caught by his DNA—found under Kristen’s fingernails so long ago. A Christmas setting has everything I love about cozy mysteries. Family interactions and murder. Okay, I’m not trying to wish up a murder at my next family Christmas party, but it would stop everyone from gossiping—at least for a minute or two. The Andy Carpenter series is always entertaining and this installment is no different. I love the interaction between the characters, who all seem realistic and relatable. However, the trials are also a smart addition to all the books in this series and that is rare in cozy mysteries. You might even say that Dachshund Through the Snow is a legal thriller set in a cozy mystery world. Plus Andy’s sarcastic asides are hilarious! Overall, I continue to love this series and wait each year for the next to appear. 5 stars! Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Laugh out loud series!
4.25* This was my second Andy Carpenter series book.... and I’ve got to say I’m growing quite fond of this character! Andy is a defense attorney who would like nothing more than to retire! But alas, poor Andy keeps getting pulled into helping people out of the “pickles” they presently find themselves in. This time it’s Andy’s wife Laurie who asks him to assist in a murder case, one that is fourteen years old. They need to help a man who steadfastly proclaims his innocence! Even though his DNA was found under the victim's nails. Oooops! Good luck Andy! You’re going to need it! I love a character with attitude! And boy does Andy have that in spades! He is one of the funniest, and snarkiest (is that even a word?)🤔 characters’ I’ve come across. Early on I thought he was over the top. But as the story played out I grew to love him (who would have thought?)🤷🏻♀️ This book is number 20 in the series but will also easily read as a stand-alone. Highly recommend if you’re searching for a fun laugh out loud legal thriller. Maybe Andy will grow on you too!? As for Andy's dogs...🐶 I was a tad disappointed in the previous release as the dogs only had a minor supporting role. Mr. Rosenfelt must have heard me🤭 because they were front and center in this release! So glad I finally had the opportunity to read this series! I am still planning my binge to start back with book one Open And Shut. But in the meantime, I anxiously await the next release. No pressure Mr. Rosenfelt....but please hurry! A super-fun buddy read with Susanne! Thank you to Joseph Brosnan at Minotaur Books for this ARC to read and review.
Andy You Never Let Me Down!
Another remarkable installment of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series. I have read quite a few and they never loose any luster. His new book is innovative and riveting but then again what else would you expect from Patterson's most acclaimed lawyer? This time the storyline revolves around a 14 year old cold case. Teenager Kristin McNeil was brutally murdered and no DNA has ever been found to match the crime scene. Until now! This killing is being linked to a man that claims he was briefly seeing her and vehemently denies having anything to do with her death. Laurie, Andy's wife who I may add seems to be the polar opposite of said husband, picks up a Christmas wish list from a little boy at her local pet store. The wish is to bring Daddy home. Connecting the dots? His father is Noah Traynor the man sitting in jail for that long ago murder. Naturally Laurie is intrigued and after meeting with Noah, long suffering Andy takes him as a client. He is only suffering because he would prefer to be retired watching sports all day. Andy seems to gripe a lot when taking on a new case but once he is invested he works diligently and is a brilliant lawyer. The plot thickens with a trail of assassins once Andy starts uncovering the past. Can Andy convince the jury that Noah's DNA was there from an innocent encounter and stay alive while trying? Once you enter the courtroom with Andy prepare for lightning fast and witty dialogue along with a well fleshed out plot. This action packed mystery kept me guessing until the very end. If you love mysteries with a large dose of canine antics I strongly urge you to give this fantastic read a try. I am excited for the new spin off of Laurie and friends for a new series.
Absolutely loved this tongue-in-cheek mystery
I love a good book with a sense of humor. It's not a cozy. These are serious mystery books, with well-structured plots, fully engaging from page one. He has a way with his snarky lawyerly attitude that tells you maybe being an attorney was not what he really wanted to do. He'd rather devote time to the animal rescue he created. This narrative begins simply enough with a Christmas request and devolves into a full-fledged, multi-level whodunit. A young boy's father is in jail for a murder he didn't commit fourteen years ago. Unfortunately, they have his DNA, but as Andy gets deeper into the case, he begins to believe he is innocent. Now: How to prove it. Parallel with the main plot premise is a retiring cop who'd love to have his beautiful K-9 service dog retire with him. But Simon is nine. They don't retire service dogs until they are ten. And more bad news: Simon is beginning to exhibit signs of arthritis. So Andy sues for species discrimination. Dialogue between Andy and his wife, (former) policewoman Laurie is intelligent and realistic. He has a cadre of unusual support staff, including Marcus (the silent muscle), a computer technie-hacker, and an office manager who also rather not work and usually doesn't. He has an irreverent attitude and can be quite self-deprecating, but don't ever sell him short. He's thoroughly competent where he needs to be. Talk about hitting all the right buttons. Intelligent mystery, dialogue, twists, red-herrings, and dogs. I love the complexity and thought I knew the ultimate culprit. But the final twist at the conclusion brings a smile and one last chuckle. I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley and totally appreciate the opportunity to read and review. (THANK YOU St. Martin's!) The book and this series are highly recommended. I'll continue to follow this author, even if he's leaving Andy behind. But I'll miss him.
A Definite Dachshund Delight!
This is my first David Rosenfelt novel and it definitely won't be my last! I am absolutely in love with this book. I mean what's not to love about a good mystery to solve and a fun loving Dachshund to help ya? From start to finish, Rosenfelt fills this novel with fantastic writing style that keeps the reader hooked and turning the pages long into the night. Rosenfelt's characters are awesome! I absolutely loved Murphy the Dachshund(of course, I could be a little biased.....I have three miniature dachshunds myself!). His doggy mischief is so fun to see in this novel that's filled with twists, turns and a few laughs along the way. I really enjoyed Andy's character too. He's determined to solve the mystery of young Danny's missing father so he can save Danny's Christmas. Danny's character was the perfect companion to Murphy the Doxie. Those two really made the book stand out! This is definitely a 5 star novel that I will be sharing with all my mystery loving friends. Andy Carpenter is a character that will stay with you long after, and make you ready to read the other books in the series. I am absolutely looking forward to going back and reading the other books, and making friends with all the fun loving furbabies in them! Grab this one up now! *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Publisher and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
great installment in the series- and great as a standalone too
Laurie, wife of Andy Carpenter, ace semi-retired attorney and leader of a pack of great characters, loves Christmas. She uses their resources to make life better for kids and this time out, she's plucked a wish that Santa brings a dad home. Well, that's just a small challenge that gets bigger when it turns out that Noah, the dad, had a relationship with a young woman who was murdered years before. He's been in hiding because his brother recently used one of those pesky DNA test kits and this his DNA, which has never been in the system before, is now one step away from discovery by the police. Andy steps in to represent him and, along with Laurie, Marcus his investigator/body guard, and terrific new character Casey (and Simon), untangles a massive international and topical case. Readers of this series know that Andy is quick with the quip, that he might see a book by Rosenfelt in someone's house, and that the mystery will have lots of twists. The more recent novels in this series have been more complex than the earlier and while I miss reading a lot about the dogs, that's ok. It's especially OK here because the book starts with Andy representing a police dog! If you haven't read these, or if you've only read a few, don't worry- it's fine as a standalone. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. This is a fun read that might seem light on the surface but makes you work along with Andy to solve crime and right wrongs.
Fun Christmas Cozy
Andy Carpenter and his wife Laurie have started a new Christmas tradition of answering a wish from a child in need. The child they selected from the wish tree is Danny. Danny’s wish was a coat for his mom, a sweater for his dachshund, and for his father to return home. Turns out Danny’s father doesn’t want to be found as he is on the run from the police. Danny’s father is a suspect in a murder that took place fourteen years earlier. Andy with the help of a local police officer and his K-9 Officer is able to locate Danny’s father but now they have to prove his innocence to keep him at home with his family. This is my first book even though it is actually book 20 in the series. I had no problem enjoying the book as a stand-alone mystery. The characters are interesting and relatable. There is a large amount of action to keep the plot moving at a nice pace. Also, there is a nice dose of humor to keep the storyline fun and light-hearted. There are enough twists and turns and red herrings along the journey to keep me guessing. I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced by anyone.
Super enjoyable!
Thanks t the folks at NetGalley who provided me with an advance copy of this book in return for a truthful review. Book #20 of the Andy Carpenter series. I never heard of this series previously and I wish I had. But now I have 19 books to catch up with! Great book. As a former lawyer I love this series - unlike most lawyer series, Andy Carpenter does not take himself too seriously and has a great sense of humor which is on display quite often here. This book deals with a person who is being tried for a 14-year old murder. Alleged killer was brought in due to a relatives DNA test that showed a match for a DNA sample for skin and blood under the victim fingernails. An arrest is made and everyone is sure that conviction is a slam dunk. But after Carpenter takes the sase there are some strange underworld murders and it seems as if somehow they are all related to this murder trial. This book keeps you guessing throughout the book, with random issues that are not resolved until the very end. Very well written, very easy read and a definite book and series I recommend. Thanks NetGalley and David Rosenfelt for a wonderful read!
Andy Carpenter at the top of his game.
Andy handles two cases. The first one is quick, representing Corey, a K-9 cop who is about to retire. The department insists his partner Simon is not eligible to retire for another two years. Andy makes a winning case, and Corey and Simon eventually save Andy’s life. The second case is brought to Laurie’s attention by a young boy (and dachshund Murphy) who asks Santa for the return of his father. Noah is accused of killing a girl he dated 14 years ago. The evidence is strong, so Andy must find the real killer. Andy is sure he has the right person nailed, but he is wrong. Quick-reading, enjoyable story.
Happiness is a new Andy Carpenter book
Dachshund Through the Snow (Andy Carpenter #20) by David Rosenfelt. Happiness began with the news of a new andy Carpenter being released. A smile started when I received this new release in my hands. And then I began the latest Andy Carpenter book (on CD). Andy & Laurie have a Christmas tradition recently started of wishes from the needy on their tree rather than the usual decorations. One request was from Danny requesting a coat for Mom, a sweater for his dachshund and for his Dad to return since he had gone missing. This request from Danny leads Andy (and Laurie) back to an old (cold) murder case of a young woman who had been found murdered 14 years ago. Danny's Dad had been arrested for that murder and has taken off since then. So finding the Dad was andy's first step in this scenario. The second step will be to find his newest client not guilty of that cold case murder. I so enjoy spending time with Andy, Laurie (yes & even Marcus)and of course Tara and Sebastian. This story, however, had an ending that left me questioning the results. Highly recommended.
Another Wonderful Andy Carpenter Mystery!
Another wonderful mystery by David Rosenfelt featuring my favorite lawyer, who doesn’t want to practice law, Andy Carpenter. There are two cases for Andy, the first a K-9 officer who is retiring and wants his K-9 Simon to retire with him due to Simon’s health. Andy loves dogs, so he is “all in” on this one. The second begins as Andy’s wife, Laurie, tries to answer a Christmas wish for a young boy, Danny, who wants his father to come home. Before she can help, a man is charged with a murder that happened fourteen years ago. A love affair gone wrong? There was DNA at the scene, but no match until now…the match is Danny’s father, Noah. As Andy and his team investigate, he is targeted by someone who wants this investigation to end. What is the real reason this woman was murdered so many years ago? If you have not read the Andy Carpenter mysteries or really any book by Mr. Rosenfelt, you should. He writes amazing, complex mysteries and characters, with humor and sarcasm. This book provides a lead in to the new spin-off series he is writing (yeah). I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Great series!
It’s Christmas time and lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie have chosen to grant a holiday wish for a little boy named Danny. He has asked for a sweater for his Dachshund, Murphy, and a coat for his mother. And, he wants his father to safely return to his family. The only catch is that Danny’s father is on the run from a murder charge. A murder his wife says he didn’t commit. So, once again Andy and the gang are championing a lost cause. But, it’s Christmas, a little boy’s wish hangs in the balance, and they are determined to find and clear the missing father. Told with David Rosenfelt’s trademark humor, Dachshund Through the Snow is another winner for this talented writer. His characters are memorable and the story is heartwarming. Even though this is the twentieth book in the series, it is still a treat to follow along on Andy’s adventures. This author never disappoints. Once again, thank you Mr Rosenfelt for giving me and my husband hours of reading pleasure. Please don’t stop writing! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
So Much Fun!!
I can't believe that this is the 20th installment to the Andy Carpenter series! This is definitely a great addition to the series - as always Andy's humorous narration combines nicely with a twisting plot that holds some genuine surprises. Plus, this time there are two new dogs - Andy represents one dog in court, and then later represents the owner of the titular dachshund in a murder conviction. Like the other entrants to the series, this one is fast-paced and a lot of fun to read. And despite the seasonal title, it isn't really all that Christmassy (so don't worry if you can't wait until December to pick this one up!). The ending also hints at a future direction to the series and a further expansion of some series regulars. It makes me more excited than ever for the series to continue! Plus, this one's plot holds more surprises than usual and it's definitely one of the better installments! I also really appreciate the fun in Rosenfelt plugging his own books within this book. These books always make me laugh and Roosevelt is a guaranteed good time of a read! As always, I am left eagerly awaiting the next book!
A fast, funny, interesting story
This is the first story I've read in the Andy Carpenter Mystery Series and I enjoyed it immensely. The humor keeps a smile on your face as you rapidly turn pages to find out what happens next. The dachshund in the story isn't key to solving the mystery, but makes a cute cover image. Other dogs show up to save the day (and the main character), and since I am a dog lover and sympathetic to shelter dogs, I love the way canines contribute to the story, and the fact that the author rescues homeless dogs in real life.
Snarky attitude with a good heart
Andy Carpenter, reluctant lawyer, takes on a case for a police dog. Simon’s handler is ready to retire, but the force says Simon must work for another year, even though he has arthritis in his hips. Andy sues for species discrimination and Simon is retired with his partner. Meanwhile, Laurie is starting her three-month long Christmas celebration by choosing from an angel tree wish list. The little boy wishes his daddy could come home, and Laurie is determined to grant his wish. His father, Noah, has been arrested for a murder committed fourteen years earlier. The dachshund in the title is their dog (though he actually has a very limited part in the story). Andy gets the team together and begins digging into the case. I enjoy Andy’s snarky attitude and humor, the dogs, and the characters on their team. The mystery was well-done and this was another great addition to the Andy Carpenter series!
Entertaining and enjoyable
Well plotted mystery with enough twists to make it a page turner? Well-developed, relatable characters? Satisfying conclusion? The right touch of humor? Dogs? It’s like a flow chart, and when I go through all of the steps, I know I’m reading a book by one of my favorite authors, David Rosenfelt. In this newest novel, Andy has 2 clients, one biped, and one quadruped. Andy takes on Simon the German Shepherd as a client when the police department engages in what Andy calls “species discrimination.” The second case starts when Laurie is trying to fulfill a child’s Christmas wish, and one of .the items on his list is to get his dad back. The dad is in danger of being convicted of murder, and what he needs is a good defense attorney, which is where Andy Carpenter comes in. Entertaining and enjoyable reading, not just for dog lovers.
The Most Original Andy Tale in A While
I had gotten into a rut with the Andy Carpenter books, which always followed the same formula. At one point when Cindy Spodek was mentioned I thought this one would follow suit. Thankfully it didn't. I really enjoyed this tale from start to finish. Andy is asked to help a man accused of murder. The evidence seems airtight as his skin and and blood were found under the victim's fingernails and he remained silent about the crime for 14 years. Andy gets together his usual team and with the help of Sam Willis's hacking skills and a new team member , he is able to piece together a defense. I read this one in two sittings and was never bored. Hopefully, the author has more ideas going forward. Would love to have another Andy team up with Doug Brock.
Love this series!
[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.] 4.5 stars. This was terrific! There are some great new characters in this one that help the team (and this book teases Rosenfelt's new series, The K Team, launching in March 2020). The mystery was top notch - no organized crime in this case (something I saw in many of the previous books) so that felt fresh. The same awesome dry humor and legal wrangling on top of the mystery/investigative work. This was a delight to read and affirms why I love this series. The Christmas books in this series (this one, The Twelve Dogs of Christmas and Deck the Hounds) are some of the best, and a great place for new readers to drop into the series.
Andy Carpenter series, book 20
This is book 20 in the Andy Carpenter series and can be read as a stand alone. I can't believe that this series has escaped my notice for so long. A cozy series that centers on dogs and murders can't be bad. Andy and his wife Laurie are Christmas Angels. They take wish list from children and try to make their Christmas wishes come true. A letter from young Danny asks for a sweater for his Dachshund and his Daddy to come home. As they work to make his Danny's Christmas happy they are looking at a murder that is 14 years old. Dog lovers will love it and the mystery is well written. I'll be looking for more of Andy Carpenter. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Christmas, doggos and murder mystery
Dachshund Through the Snow is the 20th book in David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter Mystery series. It was a quick read for me, one that I needed after being in a little slump. It was a good storyline with a great cast of characters and plenty of doggos! I enjoyed the main character, Andy a lawyer who is supposedly semi retired but gets pulled into taking cases by his wife in the spirit of Christmas. Who can say no to a child whose Christmas wish is a sweater for his dachshund and his father to come home? Well Andy could but he can’t say no to his wife. This is lawyer humorous and quick-witted with a penchant for working around the rules. Not only is Andy a lawyer but he also co-owns a dog rescue. These are all great qualities that endeared me to Andy and makes me want to check out more books in this series. This book is most definitely readable as a standalone but I am intrigued by Andy and his quirky group of colleagues and want to learn more about them all. Thank you to Minotaur Books for the gifted ARC copy.
Dogs can save the day!
This is a story as told by the main character, Andy, who happens to be a defense attorney. I love his sense of humor and at times I thought he was hilarious. The story line is great and it was fun going through all the steps to defend his client. His wife, Laurie, is retired law enforcement, turned private investigator. This could make for an interesting life. I love the characters in this story, especially the dogs! That Andy was willing to represent a dog, says a lot about him. I felt like I was right there with them, through the good and bad. Oh, I do have to agree with Laurie about the Christmas season. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
What's Christmas without Andy Carpenter?
David Rosenfelt’s lucky number 20 in the salty Andy Carpenter series, Dachshund Through The Snow practically read itself to me, since I had trouble setting it aside to do important things like cook dinner or get some sleep! Rosenfelt navigates the reader through the twists and turns of a cold case (perfect for a chilling December day). If Andy Carpenter’s fur friends don’t entice you into his world, his perfectly timed sarcasm will. As a brand new Rosenfelt fan, I’m now duty bound to retrace my steps backwards and start from the beginning of this witty series. - Joy Ann Ribar, Author of Deep Lakes Cozy Mystery Series
Great Detective Mystery
This is an entertaining book! It is like a modern-day, humorous Perry Mason with dogs. There is drama, dry humor, compassion, mystery, sarcasm. and more. The author even makes a plug for his own writing – his own cameo appearance. The plot is very believable, realistic and would make a great movie. There is an outstanding plot twist at the end that I didn't expect. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
If you like Rosenfelt you will like this book.
Rosenfelt uses the same outline as in all his Andy Carpenter srories ...should be retired but gets pulled into a case for sentiment reasons; uses the same characters to get information, save his life a few times; good new dog karma; then gets improbable bombshell information that turns the case from impossible to win to a layup. Easy, enjoyable, predictable, funny, quick read.
Andy Carpenter strikes again in new legal thriller.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview David Rosenfelt's newest Andy Carpenter series Daschund Through the Snow. Andy Carpenter is one of my favorite characters - Funny, Witty, and a character with depth. In Rosenfelt's new novel, Andy finds himself in another legal situation. He and his trusty team find a way to keep this series fresh and new - and Rosenfelt does not disappoint. Excellent - 5 stars!
Loved it!
This was so much fun to keep reading until the very end - I did it in a day.and the story didn’t end until the last page - although I thought it ended about 3 times earlier. I still had questions and it took to the last page for the final satisfaction of a great ending. Thanks to the author. I’m now looking for more of Andy Carpenter novels. The author is a good story teller! Good sense of humor too!
Like Seeing Old Friends Again
I have developed an enduring fondness for Andy Carpenter and his crew, so this book was another reunion with familiar characters. I know what to expect from everyone as I progress through the books. Although I enjoyed it, I think a new reader might find it a bit confusing, and I didn't develop any feeling for the dachshund.
Loved this book
I've read almost every book in this series by David Rosenfeld. Love the quirkiness of Andy Carpenter and enjoyed the reader. I prefer to listen to books nowadays and like the Grover Gardner's voice. IMO his voice goes well with the Carpenter character. If you like dogs, this is a fun and interesting series to read.
My Absolute Favorite Series EVER
Don't ever hesitate to read one of the books from the Andy Carpenter series....just dive in and enjoy! No other books bring a chuckle repeatedly throughout, than these wonderful books. I am overjoyed when each new book comes out and can't wait for the next....
Dachshund Through the Snow
This was my first Andy Carpenter book and will not be my last. I chose it solely for the dachshund on the front. Although each book is a standalone, I'm now ready to go back to the first book in the series and start from the beginning. If you are a fan of mystery and animals, give this one a try, you won't be disappointed.
Cozy Mystery
I love cozy mysteries that aren't filled with gruesome traffic murders. I also enjoy Andy Carpenters sarcastic remarks and his court room questioning. Great escapism reading.
a fun light mystery story
“Dachshund Through the Snow” by David Rosenfelt narrator: Grover Gardner A fun mystery story that I downloaded from my state library. It reminded me of a Grisham mystery that I read years ago.. Also, I enjoyed the narrator’s voice. I listened to the Macmillan unabridged audio version.
I love me some Andy Carpenter!
Andy Carpenter never disappoints! Typical, yet different. Same great characters with different degree of involvement. New characters : innocent or guilty? Another great twist at the end. I love me some Andy Carpenter! Could we hope for a K Team spinoff? Bring Andy along!
Wonderful dog show
I truly enjoy all of David Rosenfelt’s books about Andy Carpenter. I enjoy his group that helps him solve crimes. I am always chuckling as I read his books. I love dogs and there is always a dog in his books other than his beloved dogs.
Together always
Dachshund Through the Snow is a mystery with a Christmas theme. You'll enjoy how the husband and wife team work together to solve the crime. Lots of twists that will keep you guessing. Dry humor and wonderful dogs will keep you reading until the end.
One of his best
I love the Andy Carpenter series. I read a ton of mysteries and Andy and his Team are my favorites. This book was one of the best in the series - excellent mystery with a few good twists. Highly recommended. Write faster, David!!!
Clever, funny, and hard to put down!
All the Andy Carpenter mysteries are well written and draw-in the reader, finding them hard to stop reading. Rosenfelt’s humor and self- deprecating Andy, along with the quirky team members, make these books a delight with twists and great endings.
an entertaining mystery
andy is retired lawyer, his wife a pi this is a well written mystery , if you like mysteries , animals and you will want to read the story. I was given a copy of the book by netgalley but this is an honest review.
Pretty standard fare
Nonetheless it was as witty as they always are and as iconoclastic in the standard David Rosenfeldt way. As usual not a waste of time.
good story
Wonderful characters and story. There is vulgar language so I can't recommend it.
Great
The problem, when I get a new Rosenfelt book, is I read it too fast. Then I have to wait for him to write a new book. I am looking forward to the new series the K Team.
Great Read
David Rosenfelt is a great story teller. Every one of his novels keep me engaged and entertained. Being a mystery lover and dog lover as well is an A+ .
Not his best effort
Not a very complicated story and a deus ex machina ending. The plot feels a bit forced and the ending is overplayed.
We love this series and this latest book did not disappoint.

Christmas Mystery
This is a Christmas Mystery, and It is the 20th book in the Andy Carpenter series. I really enjoyed this book. In this book Andy (A lawyer) had two cases. One about a police dog and one proving someone did not do a murder that happen 14 years before. The ending I did not see coming.
Fun characters. Humorous.
I love the characters in the Andy Carpenter book series! I enjoy the humor and the investigative story.
