Don't Insult Your Readers!
I rarely write two book reviews in a single day--but then, I rarely get so ticked off by a book that I don't make it past a very few pages. Here's a Really Big Hint to the author: many readers of the cozy mystery genre are Ladies of a Certain Age...or beyond. Therefore, it might be best not to refer to a crowd of tourists as "geriatrics", or to mock with a fart joke a group of women in "floppy purple hats" (Uh, listen up, bucko: yet another big clue. We are Red Hatters. Red hats, as taken from line in the poem: "... I shall wear purple, with a red hat..." The purple is the decoration, not the hat.) Only a few pages in, I was fed up with the arrogant attitudes and un-subtle mockery of this very unlikeable main character, and the ageist remarks were one thing too many. If I'd continued, I'd actually have been rooting for him to be convicted of murder. I'd give this book less than one star if I could. I deleted the it from my Kindle.
disappointed mother (curse words in the book)
I purchased this book because we have 2 corgis, we love the breed and my son loves to read. A book about corgis, we thought would be great. I wasn't pleased to see that on the first page, there 3 curse words. We don't curse in our house and I'd rather my child not read it if we can help it. I tried to read the reviews and I guess I didn't look deep enough.
Corgi gets the star
Arrogant, 'big city' snob (never heard of salmon cream cheese, 'flinches' at the aroma of coffee, assumed a coffee shop would have ... wait for it ... Vanilla Coke Zero???) This guy, these examples are only a few of what make him a very unlikable loser. Don't be this guy. Of the many unlikable characters in this book, this 'star' should have been killed off early on. Only the existence of the Corgi saves the day. If this book wasn't written in a Sarcasm font, it should have been.
Love Zack!
Synopsis: Zack is a recent widower who inherits a house and some land in Oregon from a distant relative. Since he is mourning the death of his wife he decides that starting over somewhere else is the best thing he can do for himself. So, he moves. Almost immediately he has a corgi dog named Sherlock foisted on him and he also is accused of murder. He and Sherlock must prove that Zack is innocent of the crime. My rating: 4/5 I want to be clear here that my rating is based on my reading enjoyment and not necessarily how amazingly written the book was. The mystery actually wasn't all that great. And, since it is a mystery I completely understand if that is kind of a turn off to people. But, I absolutely loved the characters and particularly the authorial voice. I loved Zack and Sherlock. I really enjoyed the exploration of the relationship between them. Particularly as Zack had never owned a dog before. I appreciated how deep of a character Zack was. I don't often see a male protagonist in cozy mysteries and especially one who was sensitive and deep. His mourning for his wife touched my heart and Zack just seems like a nice guy. It is so refreshing to see a sensitive male character written by a male writer. I loved following him. If you love character driven stories and dogs then I recommend trying this book. If you need an amazing mystery then this probably isn't' for you. It wasn't terrible. It was fine but the mystery itself didn't knock my socks off. The characters did and for me that was enough to make me eager to read more.
Raise a glass to cheer on Sherlock
It took me a few chapters to warm up to this book but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Zach reminded me a bit of myself, I guess, in his frustration over his new smart phone, plus, of course, I'm a staunch corgi fan. I won't ruin the plot but will say that that it came together nicely and by the time I'd finished the last chapter, I felt like I knew the probably main characters for future books. It was nice to see Zach's immediate bond with not only Sherlock, an amazingly smart, almost psychic canine, but to see how Sherlock entering his life changed him for the better. That said, dang it, I told my corgi mix that maybe she could help solve mysteries and all she did was yawn at me. Oh, well, we can't all own a Sherlock. If you're a dog fan, even better a corgi fan, give this book a read. You'll love Sherlock and the humans who gather about him and cheer for Zack as he slowly, painfully moves on from the death of his wife with new interest Jillian and friends like Harry and Vance. Heck, you'll even learn a great deal about not just corgis but the wine making industry. Give it a read!
Thoroughly enjoyable
lighthearted mystery with a 4-legged hero♥️ J. M. Poole has written a charming, quick read that pulled me in right from the quirky first page. The lead character has been recently widowed and has inherited a winery in the rainy Pacific Northwest; quite a change from Phoenix AZ. This fellow is a bit set in his ways and on the verge of frumpy, after being married for 20+ years and suddenly alone due to an horrific traffic accident. Lots of change and new experiences bombard him in rapid succession, not the least of which are being framed for murder and trying to BE murdered! Poole is an adept writer. He has command of all the basic writing skills and weaves a fantastic story. It’s complex enough to keep you guessing, yet not convoluted. The characters are realistic and feel familiar to some folks I’ve known from a small town. The dialogue is enjoyable altho’ I could have done without the expletives. They were of the mild sort and just not really necessary when so many other creative options are available and I’m certain Poole is up to that task. Sigh... There is no sexual content and no gratuitous violence. Any and all references to murder and death are done in a factual manner without much descriptive text. Were it not for the cheap lapses of language, this book would earn 5* and a G rating; as it is, 4* and PG will need to be. Even so, “Case of the One-Eyed Tiger” is an excellent adventure with new friends. I’m looking forward to visiting with them again.
Does not disappoint
I was very excited once I found out Jeffery Poole started a new series about mysteries, and have come to fall in love with the Corgi Case Files! You come to love the characters and the small town they live in, I grew up and still live in a small town so it's nice to have a bit of something in a story to relate to. Also, even though it's a shorter story then I'm used to, it's still fast paced with something new or something of a surprise in the plot to keep you sucked in. I admit, I finished reading this book in five hours, now wanting more and just splurged on buying the next two in the series. Also want to say this book reminded me of another series that I have real a long time ago about mystery solving Siamese cats and have really enjoyed them, so was very happy to see this wonderful and funny novel come to life. Also will leave this review by saying thank you Jeffery Poole for again creating another adventure. I have come across your novels as you were just beginning, and proud so see how far you have gotten. And excited to see many more in the future. Thank you!
Light-hearted cozy mystery
Really enjoyed this story. I want a dog like Sherlock! So smart and adorable. Zack is in for some good times having two corgis! This author has the ability to put you inside the story as an observer of live action. So pleasing to feel a part of the story and experience all the characters go through. Now we get to see Zack being the owner of a functioning winery! How fun. I see many directions for stories to take. Eager to read more. Glad to have found this exciting new author and his fabulous writing style!
Worth some patience
There's a rough start here and I almost quit early on. The "snar-casm" was heavy handed and not a necessary thread. Distracting. Once the tone levels out, this becomes a very good read. I enjoyed the character development and was pleasantly surprised at the ending. This is in no way the typical Kindle freebie we all are beginning to hate. Fun read, kept me guessing , a different plot, clean editing; but most of all, I loved the developing partnership between man and dog. Priceless! Something I haven't seen on Kindle in a LONG time: I'm glad there are more in this series! WOOF!
A Great Intro to a Great Series
This is a great introduction to the characters in the Corgi Case Files mystery series. I didn't feel overwhelmed with info about the characters, but there was enough character development to keep me interested. I found Zach relatable and likeable; a quirky, imperfect gentleman. Obviously, Sherlock (the corgi) is the star. While most corgis are smart, Sherlock is brilliant. Not only does he find the clues, he also finds ways to alert the humans to said clues. Aside from the crime-fighting abilities, the description of life with a corgi is pretty accurate. It was great that Zach adopted Sherlock. As of now, I've read all 6 Corgi Case Files and am anxiously awaiting the 7th. Though each book is stand alone, there is further character development. I highly recommend this series of books.

Fun for all
When I started this book, I wasn’t sure what I would think of it. I had a hard time getting into the book. That changed when I became attached to the characters and Sherlock. I found myself involved with a mystery. Hating some characters while I loved others. And enjoying the unexpected twists and turns included in the story. I’m looking forward to starting the next one. And I realize, after looking at the number of books in the series, I may be reading about Corgis for awhile.
Charming Cozy Corgi Mystery!
This is an utterly charming cozy mystery starring a likable, mature male protagonist and his newly-adopted corgi sidekick, Sherlock, who is oh-so-appropriately named. Mystery is not my usual genre, but this was a wonderful light break from longer/heavier books. Our recently bereaved protagonist, Zack, inherits a house and a winery from his deceased wife's aunt. Deciding he needs a change of scene, Zack decides to move to the inherited house and take over the winery to honor his wife. Off Zack goes to the small town of Pomme Valley, Oregon. No sooner does he get to town than his high school friend and resident bad boy, now turned respectable veterinarian, cons him into adopting Sherlock the Corgi. It turns out this is just in time as Zack, as the new guy in town, immediately falls under suspicion when an expensive glass statue is stolen and an art gallery employee murdered just as he arrives. Lucky for Zack, Sherlock is good at sniffing out clues to unravel the mystery. A fun, light afternoon of reading! Very enjoyable.
Nice weekend read
Ok, I’m a sucker for “corgi” anything and that’s why I gave this book a try. But experience has taught me that anything corgi is very often at least ok - and sometimes much better than ok. This book was not an exception to that rule: I liked it. I typically read women authors (no politics there - that just seems to be the way it works out) so it took a few chapters for me to acclimate to a very personal male voice but I was ultimately quite comfortable with the writing style and flow of the book. Since this is being set up as the first book in the series, it was also interesting to see the main character’s personal history and personality develop - along, of course, with his canine companion. I enjoyed this book but I think that the stage is now set for the next books in the series to go in interesting directions on many levels. I, for one, look forward to reading them.
Cute Book
I took this book because I have a dog and I was thrilled to read something like this: a dog detective. What I didn't expect is that the author didn't have a dog, or simply didn't mind creating a bit realistic dog character. Yes, I know that this is a book, but adopted dogs usually don't sit in a car and wait for you to finish your job, you also need to train them when and where to pee and so on. And yes, when you take a dog from the animal rescue you usually already have basic things for the animal in question at home or you buy it by the way to the home. You do not go investing. But, that what is happening constantly in this book. Sherlock, the dog, is very cute, but totally unreal like his owner and most of the characters. But the crime part story is fine and interesting and it was good for vacation time.
The detective Corgi
Zachary had lost his wife to an accident 6 months before and found out he had inherited a house in a small town in rural Oregon. Then he arrived in town and became embroiled in a theft and murder, this was just before he bought a Corgi. The winery and vineyard were more than he expected. Talk about changing his life. The story of his dog, the winery, and murder were well written and funny. A great read, I received this free for an honest review.
Top notch
Just a very good story with characters that zing. A goofy guy and a smart Corgi along with a great gal who added to the mix. Perhaps the fellow was a bit too off-world, but it all worked pretty well and especially flowed together. The genealogy of the culprit and relatives was interesting to note. All in all it kept my interest all through the story and was very interesting.
Good stories
I picked up this first book in the series for two reasons--it was about corgis and the price was right. I was surprised and very pleased with the story. I have now purchased and read all of the books, and will get future books. The characters are well written, and the town of Pomme Valley is very attractively described. The best thing--this guy loves the corgis, as I do, and he describes their behavior very well. The other thing I like is that the narrator doesn't try to solve the crimes--he works with the police. The dogs are very smart--corgies are, so it's believable. What I don't like--everyone has likes and dislikes, so it's OK to mention something that Zack doesn't like, but the author goes on much more than necessary, especially the dislike of certain foods. My favorite is Book 4, the Pilfered Pooches; this is a good story. The one I least like is the Case of the Muffin Murders--too much about food Zack doesn't like! Looking forward to future stories.
Funny, enjoyable, neat Corgi story!
I really enjoyed this book, quite funny and written in 2nd person, which was well done. The only thing I didn't like was the use of cuss words. Not many, but enough to make me hesitate to want to recommend it to anyone who doesn't like them used. I don't, but most did enhance fear. Perhaps tone them down, mainly don't use the Lord's name in vain!
Great story.
I tend to read reviews before I purchase a book. There were some poor reviews but I decided to read anyway. The book is great. Story is down to earth, characters are well developed and believable. yes Zack is sometimes snarky, but it wasn't an issue for me. We get to understand what he's thinking and it makes the story better. Enjoyable read.
Delicious
This is the second time I've read this book and truly enjoyed it even more. The characters are strong, the plot is intriguing and well, there are Corgis! What's not to adore? I'm completely hooked and prepping for serious binge reading of the this book series. Thank you Jeffrey Poole for your great imagination.
Corgis Rule!
We have here a sad-sack widower who tragically lost the love of his life six months ago and takes advantage of an inheritance to start over. Suddenly he finds himself a dog owner and up to his neck in trouble--and he hasn't even been in town for 24 hours! Perfectly narrated by Bob Johnson, you could be actually listening to the voice of our hero as he shares his story. Murder, mystery, humor, romance . . . and dogs! What more could you want?
Worth a Read
I downloaded this book as part of the free book challenge when Amazon encouraged authors to share at the start of the quarantine. My younger son is a huge fan of corgis, and I am a Sherlock fan, so I thought I might attempt to read it. As a first mystery book goes it was engaging enough for me to ascertain midway through that there is in fact a series and I was not going to invest in characters that would end as the tale finished. I have already purchased book two, and as is often my experience will most likely continue the series as I become more engaged by Sherlock and his parent.
Awesome book, loved it from start to finish!
Awesome! Loved the book from start to finish! Really a great read! So happy I found a book that I could hardly put down. I couldn't wait to get back to read more of the story. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series! Thanks to the author for writing this series!
My New Go-To Cozy Series
I’ve been looking for a good cozy series, and I just discovered this entertaining mystery written by a new-to-me author. Protagonist Zack Anderson’s rescue Corgi, aptly named Sherlock, is the primary detective in this funny and quirky dog-and-human story. Sherlock is “assisted” by Zack, his rather clueless owner—a once successful Romance author, who has never heard of Strychnine, among other things. The protagonist, although not a Mensa candidate, is well-written and is very likable. The author also spent time developing his secondary and tertiary characters. I also appreciate the manageable character list, so I didn’t need a scorecard. When I next need a cozy, I’ll look for more books by Jeffrey Poole.
Excellent!
Wonderful book with a very smart dog (Sherlock) and the man who was surprised to adopt Sherlock. A good mystery that was solved with Sherlock's help. The book was very well written with only two errors: "Sherlock laid down..." and "He was laying in such a way...."
Very cute cozy with the cutest dog ever
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were likable...or not! I loved the sense of humor and, of course, the adorable dog. As someone who has lived in a small town, I appreciated the quirkiness and charm of PV and it's residents. Whodunit ended up being someone completely different than who I thought it was! I already decided to get the next book before I even finished this one.
The Corgi always knows best.
Inheriting a winery shouldn't be deadly, but this one just might be. Zachary has moved to a tiny Oregon town to take possession, but now he is accused of murder. Good thing he was smart enough to adopt a Corgi named Sherlock, before he went to jail. Fast paced twists, turns, clues and suspects, just follow the dog!
Good first in series - a Corgi?
Thought this would be a not-very-good effort - fooled me!! I like that the dog seems smarter than his master - but that's just a ploy...I also like that the main character is making friends with a new lady. Perhaps a sign that he is closing one door and opening another? Looking forward to new adventures!!
Intrigue with attitude
I love mysteries and I share my life with a miniature poodle who is intelligent, stubborn and adorable. Sherlock’s antics and intellect are believable although exaggerated to fit the storyline. The story is well done. The relationship between dog and owner is endearing. I read the book all in one setting because it was entertaining. I would prefer if the colorful language was omitted but I was able to overlook it.
ENJOYABLE BOOK
I liked the book and the way the author interacted with the animals in the story. It showed how he started out not a pet person and turned into a pet person and enjoyed the company of the animal. I enjoyed the book and the authors writing so much that I purchased the 2nd book. I will keep up with his story line. i really had a hard time putting the book down to go to work or get into bed without wanting to keep reading it.
Corgi lovers must read
I love cozy mysteries with dogs, any breed actually, as star characters. This book was interesting, engaging, and had me hanging on to my seat at its conclusion. A real winner, I am eagerly waiting for more books in this series!
Entertaining
As a dog lover, I enjoyed the dog's involvement. And I appreciated the care that was given to him. The book had humor in it. Was nice to read a murder mystery without gory details. I was expecting the car accident killing the main character's wife found to be part of the murders to gain the winery.
Sherlock
I really enjoyed this story. Just think about having a Dog such as Sherlock would be a lot of fun. I so enjoyed his dislike wine and his lack of knowledge about his new phone. I know how he feels.
Wow
If you like a Good who did it !! Then this book is for you... the plot is spot on... love the small town setting.. the dog was great .. just a good read... will be reading more from author...
Sourer grapes & dog blues
Zack finds out he inherits a winery from his wife's aunt. He decides a change of scenery would do him good. After all he can always sell if he doesn't like it in OR. What he ended up with was a corgie and a Murder rap. Can he & Sherlock solve it or will he be living in new living arangements for the rest of his life. A great whodunit mystery. Full of Characters and twists and turns. You won't figure it out till the end, lwith lots Of excitement. Debra H.
I Loved It
This book made me hungry! I started reading it and couldn't stop until I was done. The characters are unique and entertaining, and the story is a suspenseful mystery. The most exciting character was a corgi named Sherlock who seemed to be the smartest one in the book. How he gets the mystery solved and protects his master is the best part of the book. I set it aside to read again just because it was so entertaining.
Sherlock is adorable and the story moves along easily
Murder, mysteries inside of enigma, and all kinda tongue in cheek. And nary a typo in sight, just what I like . Two thumps up for Mr. Poole, gonna read the whole series now!!!
You won't want to miss this one.
Wow. I almost put this story down because I don't care for bad language in books I read, but this one kust sucked me in. I actually enjoyed Zack and the other characters vivid personalities and enjoyed his snark. The dog in this played a big part and was a great addition. I thoroughly enjpyed the story and will be getting the second one if I can find it and afford it. I got this book for free and am voluntarily giving a review. What a great way to find new authors to delve into. Thanks!
Great mystery!
Fun mystery with engaging characters and neat locations. Quick action and suspense kept me up late at night to finish the book. Can't wait to look up more of Mr. Poole's series of books!
Fun read
I enjoyed this story. I liked the characters, the setting and the dog. It's a feel good book despite two murders. The murderer is a surprise but I'll l almost the end.
Pleasantly surprised
I have never read anything by this author before. I enjoyed the book so very much. I liked the writing style and the storyline very much. I had trouble putting the book down. I was afraid I was going to wake my husband up by laughing too loud. Keep up the good work.
I loved reading the story
The story was quite fun and full of joy. It was a very fun mystery and it was very easy for me to let go and believe the unlikely. Really wonderful.
Adorable! Easy to read in an afternoon and enjoyable!
I got this book for free, I try to not expect too much at that price, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed reading this book a lot. The characters were great and I'm in love with Sherlock. For the record, yes, I knew which town PV was based on, yes, I think dogs are so much smarter than people give them credit for, I can't drink wine or coffee. But I adore all teas without flowers in them. Please consider adding a story involving the Shakespearen Festival if you haven't already.
Poole is an awesome writer whose stories will enthrall you from genres
Delightful story! An engaging mystery with a lot of humor. Makes me want a corgi. Mr. Poole is an awesome writer whose stories will enthrall you from genres. His switch over has come through with flying colors. If you want to be entertained read Mr. Poole's books. You will not be disappointed.
Love it!
His writing style kind of reminds me of harlen colben but with corgis! I love Sherlock! It’s a fun read and unlike another review I read, is not arrogant at all! I was instantly hooked and am now on book 4. I would definitely recommend to anyone especially one that is a fan of Myron Bolitar Series...zack is like Myron warm caring sarcastic but sweet.
Sweet Daddy
I really enjoyed this book. It was filled with suspense. I kept the book on my mind continually. I highly recommend this book.
Super story
Awesome mystery, awesome Corgi, lots of fun, Jeffrey Poole has a wonderful imagination and sense of humor. I want to read more.
Puzzling Corgi
This book had mystery, humor and love for an intelligent Corgi. If you love Corgis or dogs in general, then this book is for you.
The book kept my interest completely
I loved this book & am now on my 5th book of the series. I will be sad when I come to the end. J. Poole is a matter writer.
Great first book in this series
I read this book in one sitting. Enjoyed the characters; and, of course, Sherlock, the Corgi who leads the main character to all of the clues to solve the murder. Have already started the second book in this series.
Loved the book.
I don't usually read mystery books but I loved this one. It was a fun read. How can you not like a book when the hero is an adorable pup.
Great book-loved the dog
I really enjoyed this book. Well developed characters and plot. I especially liked how the author recognized how smart dogs are. This is a quick enjoyable read that will make you smile and snicker.
Nice way to spend an afternoon.
I discovered this book by accident, but had a very enjoyable afternoon reading it. I like no stress reading. I'm off to buy the second book
Enjoyed
Great read! Would certainly recommend this book to all frie nds. Liked the characters. Loved t he cute little dog!
Case of the one-eyed tiger
Loved it!!! Zack & Sherlock make a great team! Being a dog owner/lover of an exceptionally smart Boykin Spaniel, I relate to this adventure. The length on the story is irrelevant since it is replete with twists and turns and comes to a very satisfying conclusion.
Fun
Really charming. I love the way this poor guy is sucked in to adopting a dog or maybe two dogs.
Funny
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was funny, had a good mystery story, and finished it in a short time. i'll be looking at some of the others in this series as i enjoyed this one so much. It was a little strange to be in the first person for the main character, but I liked it. He was just an average person, happy, sad, and a sucker for the corgi. Worth a look.
Great short read for a warm summer afternoon.
I enjoyed this more and more as I got deeper into it. I am anxious to start the next one in the series.
Couldn’t put it down
I found this story very enjoyable. Fun characters, funny dog and I wasn’t able to guess who did it. These books are usually about women, a man in the lead was a nice change.
Not too shabby
It's not a bad book. It obviously is based, at least somewhat, to "The Cat Who" series. Still, it was, until the end, an interesting book. Unfortunately, by that time the author had dug a hole too deep that the main character needed a 'Deus ex maxchina' intervention to survive. While I am glad to have read this book, I won't be reading ny more in this series.
Fun romp
I bought this book looking for an interesting but light read. The fact that there’s a corgi in the book was the deciding factor. It was definitely fun to read.
GOOD BOOK
I'm a sucker for any book that has animals in it. It was fun to read and it gave me a better understanding of why people raise and love Corgis. Hope to read many more books by this author. This is a good choice for all animal lovers.
Fun read
I like mysteries. I like corgis. This book has both. It's a bit hard to believe a corgi can be that psychic, but still, it's fun. Believable characters. It looks as though romance may be blossoming.I'll look for the next one.
Great fun
Ready to laugh and smile as a dog solves the case for his bumbling new owner? What a fun read!
CASE OF THE ONE EYED TIGER
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. MR. POOLE WROTE AN INTRIGUING STORY WITH A WONDERFUL CAST OF OF CHARACTERS.. THE PLOT WAS EXCELLENT AND FILLED WITH TWISTS AND TURNS IT KEPT MY INTEREST TO THE VERY END..
Enjoyable unusual mystery
A fun book to read It helps if you like dogs because the corgi in this book is smarter than the humans. Although there are murders they are totally background events and not scary. The locale, a small town where everyone knows every one else, is a place you would like to visit. Easy reading and fun.
Murder & dogs
I really liked this book! Different story line , humorous, not a lot of unneeded narrative and the words used were like a conversation. I just completed a book that had too much unneeded narrative and the autor tried to change things up with big words or some that are not commonly usec....boring!! This one kept my interest and I will be reading more of Jeffery Poole's works
DOG & CORGI LOVERS: GREAT BOOK
The CORGI makes this book stand out! I love the twists & Corgi turns in this book. I'm reading the next CCF2 novel as soon as I finish this! I've been reading everything Jeff has written. His LENTARI novels are a delight to read. My FAVORITE book scene ever involves a Corgi puppy meeting a dragon! (Something Wyverian This Way Comes)
Very enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the story. It was well written and easy to read. I enjoyed there being a dog in the story and will be getting the other books in the series.
Greally great book
Very good story line. Characters were well described. Very entertaining story, well written, great interactions of characters and loved Sherlock.
Not a real tiger
I enjoyed the story very much. The story line was great. The interaction was believable. I felt for Zack and this phone. I don't understand them either. A good mystery, a smart dog, and some really good friends.
Corgis Rule
From start to finish it's fun, ridiculously funny, and very engaging. I have read all of the Corgi Case Files available at this time at least three times. With every reading I find more nuances and wish there were a new one available every day, well at least weekly or monthly. I have also fallen in love with the corgis, and would hope they would all be as intelligent as Sherlock. Then I'd have to find a way to live with the fur storms.
Fun read
Good for filling time. Amusing and intriguing.
Age 11 Natalie's Review
I liked the book so much that I want to read the next in the series. Thank you.
Do not fear, Sherlock's on the case
Zachary Anderson, still mourning the death of his wife, learns he has inherited an estate and a winery in Oregon, so he leaves Phoenix behind. Before Zack has time to unpack, he's the new owner of a corgi named Sherlock, is ordered to sign over the estate and winery to a new owner, and has been arrested for murder. 22
Corgi to the rescue!
First let me say that I loved this book! Second your style of writing caught me a little of guard. Not many writers talk to themselves while telling you a story. I loved it! Third I will definitely recommend this book to everyone who is looking for something out of the ordinary! Great job going on to book 2 now.
Fun read
Well written cozy mystery. Wishthere were more in the kindle library.
I loved it!
This is exactly the kind of story I want to read! It has a really swell storyline, wonderful people characters and an inventive canine detective. It's cute and amusing with laugh out loud scenes!
Corgis and mystery! Who could ask for more?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s very easy to read and engrossing. The characters were interesting and relatable. Even though I had intended on read a little bit each day, I was unable to put it down and finished it in one go. The plot was not predictable. I’m looking forward to reading the next book!
Good character development and good story pace
Don't usually care for dog books, but his one kept my attention without being overly silly. Good character development and good story pace. Enjoyed the book and will read more by Poole.
Ccf11Id tiegrr
I liked this book. I'm more used to female cozy mystery leads, and these are a refreshing change. The treatment of the 'romance ' aspect is unique.
I Love Corgis
I admit the only reason I started this book was the corgi. I'm amazed how much I enjoyed this book. It is well written, not totally predictable and very light-hearted. The description of places and people are just enough for imagining without being too detailed. I will definitely be reading the next one ... or two.
Fun read!
Delightful and funny along with a mystery, what's not to love! Written in 1st person, it draws you right into the story. I enjoyed the use of old photographs and albums to identify suspects and the genealogical ties.
Some bad language. Loved the corgi.
Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Couldn't put it down. Loved the conversationaly writing style. Didn't love the language. Would have been five stars if not for that. Really didn't add anything to the story. The language moves it out of the relm of 'cozy mystery' for me.
This was a good book to read.
I did like this book. I enjoyed the characters and their story lines. Loved the dog!! I did not like the fee curse words, however there were only a few. A good mystery, definitely a good read!! Looking forward to reading more in this series.
Great read,
Fascinating tale of a corgi and his amazing detective skills plus his wiggling little stump of a tail! And, his very likeable daddy.
Fun book to read
Really enjoyed this book and loved the length of it! Looking forward to reading the next ones in this series
Funny and very entertaining
This is the first book I've read by Mr Poole. I definitively well be reading more of his corgi series.
Fun to read
Enjoyed this book immensely. Sherlock was the star of the story, of course! Glad to know there will be a second (or more) book(s).
Sherlock should get an award
A very delightful mystery without gore and unnessary sex.a really fun dog and his man. I loved all the twists and turns.it was a fun read and I would like to read the rest of books in the series.
LOVED Sherlock and his great detecting abilities !!!
yes, Jeff I'm FINALLY getting into this series ... What GREAT FUN !!!! just leaves more wine for me !!! hehehe ...Louise
Well writen, quickly paced with Corgis !
Story engages you from page 1. It's a well written fast paced book. It's not the most complex plot and i think relies a little too much on Sherlock to figure everything out but its forgivable with such good writing.
trust your pet
Good complexity to the plot and I alwayss enjoy a little animal magic
Pleasant reading but could be better written
Introduction was a bit tedious but main characters begin to grow on you. The section revealing the family tree was a bit awkward.
One very enjoyable book
If you like dogs and mysteries, this is the book for you. If you're a wine enthusiast, be prepared, there's a lot about wine but the hero hates wine so who knows what will happen. Highly recommended.
{Smile}
It starts a bit slow. And I just about gave up. I am glad I didn't. I got into it when he was trying not to look at Sherlock. I know that feeling. This is a fun read. And he's so clueless.
Detective Dog!
I love a book that has real dialogue like real people use. This story has some great twists and turns. When you have a dog that is a genius at solving crimes you just have to have a sense of humor and a sense of adventure. Great story written from a male point of view. Read on to book 2.
Corgi plus mystery perfect combination
I read this quickly. It was amusing and had like able characters. As a Corgi Mom, I can attest that they are a brilliant breed.
A new home, a new start, a new threat!
Zack’s loss leads to his new home and a murder. A suspect before he’s even been in town a day. Now a reluctant dog owner to Sherlock the corgi, he and his partner try to solve the crimes he’s a suspect in as they multiply. A fun read that keeps you guessing.
Great!
Good story, Great Corgi! Anxious to read more of these stories! Characters are well done and good plot! Can't wait to get next one in series!
Corgi case files
This book has 2 of my favorite things in one, corgi and mystery. I love the interaction he has with his corgi and also how the mystery flow. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
Quick fun read
I picked this up because I like Corgis. The Corgi character was engaging. Book was a quick fun read. Simple story line, could have used deeper descriptive language to help me envision the scenery. A little predictable but entertaining. I’ll pick up the second too and take a look at the authors other books.
Talked to Like a Friend
Having the hero speak directly to you, like a friend was entertaining but I would not want a steady diet of it. It was a decent mystery. I confess I was misled. As to the interactions with the dog, maybe a little hard to swallow, but not as much as the Cat Who books. I did like the cast of characters. They seemed real as in how many times have known people like that.
Fun and funny
Love this book for above reasons . Also, among my favorite books were,The Cats Who...by Lillian Jackson Braun. My other very fave was my daughters Corgi, she was by far the most intelligent dog I have ever known!
One Dog and One Winery equals One Fun Read
This is the first mystery featuring a Corgi, but it won't be my last. I loved the characters and setting. A toast to a brilliant dog.
Great first mystery novel!
Looks like our fantasy writer has come up with another career choice. Fun mystery with just enough to keep you laughing and guessing as to what's around the next corner! Can't wait for the next book in his series! Give this one a try - guarantee you will love it and be enchanted by the doggie duo!
Review
First time with this author. What fun this book was to read!!! Loved the DOWN to earth style and the HUMOR!! I WANT more of this author.
Loved it!
I'm always looking for light hearted canine companion mystery books and this sure fits the bill! I've added this series to my kindle library and look forward to some more cozy reads.
Started it and couldn't put it down till it was finished!!
I've found a new favorite author. Everything about it was just the type of mystery I love to read! I will be downloading all his `corgi novels`!!
Yes, this is fun book to read!
Zack is a wise guy which I appreciate. Sherlock is too smart for his own good like all corgis are. And there was a nice little mystery along with a new “pawrent” getting to know their new puppy. Fast and fun!
Great read!
Must read this book! If you like mysteries with a little bit of humour, this is a book to read. With a cute little corgi and a loyal friend thrown in, what's not to like?
Adorable!
Written as if the author is chatting to you over a bottle of Coke Zero. Sherlock is wonderful and brilliant.
Great read!
I love a good mystery and when it includes Corgis, it is even better! Gonna keep going through the series!
Good story. Slow start.
The book started out slow but once I got further in the story pace picked up. I enjoy reading about animals solving mysteries.
Great book....it even has Corgi's
This is one of the best books I have read in awhile! The conversational style makes this book extremely easy to read. It's like having a chat with a good friend.
An amusing mystery
The author obviously knows dogs. Although Sherlock is smarter than most, he has the typical traits of a dog. The mystery is almost secondary to the dog, but gripping nevertheless. The only fault I found was in the first half - the incorrect usage of "me" and "I" several times.
Read this series
As always this the start of a series that I just have read. Good thing I am retired and able to do that
Surprisingly good.
A great read with a main character that seems like you could either be them or know someone like them. Lookng forward to the next book in the series.
Dissppointing
Everything was too convenient - the dog literally dragged him around to the clues!
Love the characters
Love the characters, love the dog, love the story. This book held my interest all the way through. Great writing & plot. The author apologizes for this first foray into mystery writing, but shouldn't! It's TERRIFIC!!!
Very entertaining
I read while on a trip and it kept me.entertained while in some slow times and on the plane. I do have Corgis though.
Case of the one eyed tiger.
This story was a good read. It had a mix of mystery, fantasy, and intrigue. The dog was wonderful, but perhaps a little too smart. The villain a little too unrealistic.
There's a corgi in the book, so it starts with 3 stars just on general principle. :-)
There's a corgi in the book, so it starts with 3 stars just on general principle. :-) But it is an entertaining read and easily earns the other two stars. Not sure what I'll do when I rate the second book, which will have two corgis and a baseline rating of six stars...
Very entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I loved the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Great new series
The author is definitely gifted. The story is plausible and entertaining. I didn't want to put it down. There are more books in this series written and I will download all of them as soon as possible.
One Eyed Tiger....
This is do great! Murder, mystery, old friends, bad guys, good guys, cops.... what more could you ask for? I highly recommend reading
Fun read
Quick read for a rainy evening. Zack’s self-deprecating humor and relationship with his dog contributes to the story’s appeal. Recommend.
A fun and intriguing book!
Love thos series! They are mysteries with a a lot of humor! These books are fun to read!
Endearing dog and master solve crimes
Nothing serious here--just a good, entertaining story with characters you can like or hate. Good premise and I look forward to the next book!
What a hoot!
Very well written and very witty. I love the subtle sarcasm, the profession of the protagonist, and the dog is to die for. My beagle is so jealous and afraid I'm thinking of trading him in for a Corgi. Well done!
I'd own a dog if it were like Sherlock!
Liked the "folksy" writing style and the small-town setting. A very refreshing change from the usual mystery, with believable characters. Looking forward to more adventures as he gets into the wine business.
Corgis- yes!!!
Loved it. Quirky characters! Easy read! Looking forward to the next one! Love the cute boy Sherlock! So clever. I can picture all of his antics!
Good story
Excellent
An excellent read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was suspenseful & had some funny parts to keep it interesting.
Good plot and character development
The author noted that this mystery is longer than the average cozy mystery. For me, this is a more satisfying length and has good plot and character development.
Love Sherlock!
Love this audiobook - it was sweet, funny and well written. Well narrated. Great characters... I love Sherlock. Great job. I highly recommend it.
Delightful mystery
Fun mystery, fast paced. Felt as though the writer was just casually taking you along for the ride. Looking forward to Book and more Corgi adventures.
Best fun reading in a while
Best fun reading in a while. WARNING, Don't start unless you have time to finish in one setting.
Fun mystery
I enjoy Jeffrey's other books so I thought I would give this one a try a very fun mystery with a really good storyline
Excellent EXCELLENT !!!
Absolutely nothing I didn't love about this book. Laughed out loud too many times to remember. This is the type of book, characters, setting, etc you want to return to time and again. Hoping for many more books in this series!
Page turner
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Nice characters interesting plot. Plan on keeping up with the series
Love it
I like the dog and the fact he ended up with another one. I can really relate to that. The caracturization was great.
Corgi Cozy
I enjoyed this first entry in the Corgi Case Files mystery series. I will definitely be reading the next one.
Worth the read .......
This was certainly a fun book to read. Will look forward to the next in the series. Not surprisingly, This book peaked my interest in the Corgi.
A fun read!
The story was easy to read and included a couple of my favorite subjects: corgis & mystery! It was amusing, fast-paced and without a too obvious protagonist. Quite enjoyable. Now on to book 2. . .
Okay
This is an average cozy mystery. The characters and story are okay but it dragged on a but and I lost interest toward the end. But, I did finish it.
Book
Very interesting and capture attention throughout the book The characters were great and you could follow right along with them and believe in them
4 Stars
I was pulled in to this fast paced mystery and enjoyed every minute. I am not usually a fan of such a short story...but it held my attention all the way through.
Reviewed
I loved the humor in the tale. The characters were great. Can't wait to get to know them better in your next book.
entertaining
Enjoyable, even if the main character is annoying at times.
Three Stars
Loved the main character and his too smart corgi, Sherlock. Good read.
Good
A decent read
Crime solving Corgis!
Have enjoyed first two books. Need to order book five for full set. Keep writing and I ‘ll keep reading. Love those corgis.
Fun read
I have read other writing Jeff Poole has written. I love them all(fantasy lover) but I love this one the most. Sure was a great fast read. More Corgi stories please!!
Review
I just absolutely adored. This. It was recommended to me by a family member that has pretty much the interests in books that I do. So my next moved is to buy the next book.
wonderful mystery
I am so tickled to find this author. He is funny and great mystery writer.
Love the corgi
Quite intertwining mystery. I really enjoying reading it and I love the Corgi aspect. Looking forward to the next one.
Fabulous entertaining read
Cleverly written quick paced read where Sherlock the Corgi sniffs out clues his new owner follows. A sprinkle of budding romance adds some humanity the mystery.
Enjoyable
Any book with a Corfu is a Winner as far as I'm concerned, and the Corfu in this case is downright supernatural. Give it a try.
Puppy Love
Found the story reviting. I could hardly wait to see what would happen next. I want that dog. I have a friend who has two C gorgies and they are just adorable. I have three dogs and used to have five. Have had two die on me in the past two years. The most recent was my Bichon Friche on Valentine's night. Sorry if my spelling is not correct as I seem to be losing my mind. Not a fun prospect. Sorry I seem to be rambling, but I sure could relate to your problem with your cell phone. My husband gave me his old phone and I don't even know how to answer it when a call comes through. I just loved your book and would read more of them, but read so many books that I can only read free ones.
Five Stars
Very enjoyable book.
Charming story. Had me giggling and looking for the next surprise. Looking forward to the next book.
Everyone who enjoys reading, dogs and their antics as well as interesting stories. Mysteries, comedy and animals as well as a clueless male trying hard to cope with life.
What a cozy should be!
Very personable writing style, interesting characters, cute story line. Enjoyable read. Have bought all of his others.
Very good read!
Started slowly but picked up speed with lots of twists and turns. Very good read!
The Corgi got me
This book was a fast read and a lot of fun. I love reading murder mysteries and I love Corgis so the combination was a no brained for me.
Loved it
I love corgis and mysteries. This was a perfect combination. I could not put it down. Can not wait to read the next in the series.
Must read
Another great work of art. Can't wait for the next book to come out. Love the small town setting it makes the stories come to life.
Fun read
Entertaining
Great mystery!
Interesting story. I enjoyed that the dog helped solve the case! I liked how it was written and the humor but sometimes Zach came off as immature.
Great story
I was reluctant to start this book. I have loved Jeffrey Poole's Lentari works and gave it a shot. I loved it. He always brings his characters to life and adds the right amount of humor. I am looking forward to the next book.
Corgis rule
Loved this book. Funny and kept me trying to figure out who did it. Just bought the second one and can't wait to start reading it.
One-Year Tiger
Totally enjoyable! That story made me laugh; and now I want a Corgi too! Will my yellow lab cooperate? Definitely yes!
Cute and Fluffy
Though the writing style felt disjointed at first, Zach is a genuinely likable character, and I'm a sucker for rescue dogs. The conclusion felt a little packaged too neatly, but it was still an enjoyable read.
Case of the One-Eyed Tiger (Corgi Case Files Book 1)
Love the book enjoyed not only learning a little about wine but also learning about corgi. Hope to see stories with the same corgis
Four Stars
pretty good
Corgi Case Files
I really enjoyed the book, if you are looking for a light hearted mystery, you should really enjoy this book.
Funny and fun to read
This book had mystery, was funny and best of all a corgi. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
It has Corgis!!!
Loved this book. Kept me entertained and the big bonus for me was it had a Corgi in it!! I have 2 Corgis of my own. Reading the 2nd book in the Corgi Tales now.
Loved it! Great rear. I'm ready for another one.
I loved this book. It was a easy read and the plot was great. It held my attention and being a dog lover, I loved the corgi adoption and the building of nthe relationship between pet and owner.
Wonderful story.
Great cast of characters. Couldn't out it down. Please write more. Can't wait to meet the female Corgi. She is just what Sherlock needs.
enjoyable story
A fun read and made me laugh. I love Sherlock the Corgi. . I'm looking forward to the next book.
Great!
Loved the dog human connection. Cute interesting.
Good
this story is one mystery of several murders and how in a small town this had and involved many different family members
Really enjoyed it!
A fun cozy mystery with an adorable Corgi! Ready for the next one!
Case of the One-Eyed Tiger
I loved the book once I got started I couldn't put it down keep up the good work I will be reading more of your books.
pretty good story
Pretty good story, the dog was very cute. A bit cliche in some parts but it was a quick and easy clean read.
review
Loved the book. All the others this author writes too. Fan forever. Keep em coming.
