Politics? Really?

I'm on page 7 and already, "While every day, some of us are hoping someone else gets arrested for treason!" WHY DOES EVERY SINGLE THING HAVE TO INVOLVE POLITICS? I don't even want to finish reading at this point and will likely return. Holy jeez. Again on page 9 about an ingrown toenail in a red hat being elected. I didn't even vote for the guy. I'm so sick of having it shoved in my face 24/7. I don't understand how Ms. Knight is a best-selling author. I just don't get it. Some millennials and younger probably like it.

Waste of time

It seems to me that this author just needed to fill up pages to meet the requirements of her book contract. There is not one bit of useful info in this book. I kept thinking that I should write a book if this is all it takes. Way too much "humor" and not one nugget of wisdom in it. Do not waste your time or money with this rambling little book of no value. I don't know that I have ever returned a book before but this is either going back or going in the garbage because I wouldn't want anyone else to waste their time on it.

Skip It

It takes a lot for me to go out and write a review on something and this book has earned my bad review. I’ve tried to finish this book and can’t. It’s filled with useless drivel and gives you no tactics at all. Things that are the most irritating: 1.) one of the reasons we’re supposed to trust her is because she had a best selling book in the past, so she she knows what she talks about. 2.) I really could care less that she lives in the Dominican Republic...she treats it like a feather in her cap, like she’s winning and that’s why you should listen to her advice. 3.) Unnecessary political references. I really don’t care what you think about the president. 4.) Repeated mentions about having to get chapters done and sent off to her agent/publisher. It’s obvious she didn’t have enough material to write this or it wouldn’t have come up numerous times. My biggest disappointment is the time I wasted reading this while I could have been reading something useful.

Don’t waste your money

Crap. In the first few pages she bashed the president twice I didn’t buy this book for her political views Very disappointed and if I could return it I would

I wish I could get a refund

I really enjoyed Knight’s first book, and her follow-ups were ok. But I didn’t get anything out of this one. I like her sarcastic humor but it felt overdone in Calm the F*uck Down, and I basically skimmed the last half. Disappointing.

Not a fan

Where to begin...This is a compact book and I'm guessing if it had been the size or a normal book it would only have been 150 pages instead of 290 ( including the Epilogue, Acknowledgments and Index). I painstakingly made it through to page 137 and had to stop. There were several jabs at President Trump that didn't add any value to the book and should have been left out. There was a LOT of self promotion for her other books and a ton of repetition and filler. I do not recommend this book to anyone. I don't see how it made the best sellers list at all. It did nothing to help my anxiety and after reading what it did caused me a great deal of frustration due to the time invested in something that I could have googled.

So good..... I deleted it

So good......I deleted it Too much ranting without much assistance

Humorous and helpful!

Whether a problem is big or small, whether or not it has a solution, worrying is not going to fix anything. While this book might not tell you anything you don't know, it delivers the message with humor and kindness (and, yes, snark as well) that might make it stick this time. I also appreciated that it acknowledges not all worry is created equally, we each react to the world around us in some ways that are unique to ourselves, and perhaps most importantly that some kinds of anxiety are best treated medically (and that's okay!).

Horrible.

This book is TERRIBLE. Please don’t waste your money on it. It seems like the biggest “problem” this author ever had to face was the fact that a tarantula got into her house once, a story of which she goes on about for what seems like forever. In this she basically just plugs her other books and acts as though she’s superior, speaking to the reader in an almost condescending tone throughout. There is literally nothing in this book that helped me with my anxiety, and I feel like this woman is a total fraud. It’s like she wrote this for the dumbest possible audience. Horrible.

Another great read, apply tactics immediately!

I always love Sarah’s practical advice and the way she delivers it. I find her books to be some of the the most logical (I loved the logicats!) and find my self applying her no nonsense tactics daily. I recommend all four of her books. And she’s funny as hell! Thanks Sarah, I needed this!

No Useful Information

Honestly thought this book would give me at-least some tips based on the title. The author was just all over the place making it impossible to read. While many of us face real problems , the one i had to relate to was a spinder being in her house. Also tried to spread negative political views. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this one, waste of money unfortunately.

No

I just can’t even get halfway through this book. It’s unfortunate because I thought I’d be getting some valuable information. A little humor is ok, but at this point, it’s not even funny anymore. Waste of money.

Sadly, this doesn’t compare to her other work

I have three of her other books and really enjoyed them, but this one just isn’t doing it for me. Who knows when I will ever even get it finished...

Politics + Profanity = Managed Anxiety? I don’t think so...

I really wanted to like this, but it was filled with too much useless and distracting information to be able to take much away from it. The mention of politics was just unnecessary; politics in a self help book? Two concepts that in no way belong together. There were too many useless references (things like what the Royal Family names their babies and the TV show America’s Next Top Model) - confused? That’s my point. And far too many f-bombs. Yes, the title of the book should have given it away, but I didn’t think the entire book (literally, almost every sentence) would be riddled with profanity. Not to mention the incessant use of words in all-caps; I felt like I was being yelled at, which certainly does nothing to “calm” me down. Read the other reviews, but if you are serious about finding ways to manage your anxiety, this one isn’t for you.

Waste of my money

You have got to be kidding me... this book reads like someone on meth wrote it. It's all over the place like sidetrack Sally. I could only get about 1/3 of the way through it. My anxiety went through the roof trying to figure out what the hell the author was trying to say. The other part that was upsetting is the fact that she constantly plugs her other books. As in... if you want the answer to this get my other books.... NO! I bought this book to learn how to control my over thinking and anxiety not to be told to go to her other books.

Really lady?

Made it to page 4...returned. I bought the book for anxiety help, not to read about her hangups about conservative voters and Trump. Obviously not looking to help by bringing politics into every aspect and only wrote to swear a bunch and fill a page quota. Sad.

B.S.

Already knew this would be a bad book a few pages in. Stopped reading it as soon as it became political. Made my anxiety worse, not better. RETURNED

Terrible, not funny, not helpful

The writer’s style is awful! She tries too hard and too often to be funny and she isn’t. She even admits in the into that the book is an exaggerated form of the Serenity prayer. Skip this book

Have Anxiety? Get mad easy? Then buy this

I have never read a self-help book. I picked this one up because I found the title amusing. The author is not a therapist, but more like a friend who can be honest with you. It might not be right for everyone, but it was for me.

Yikes

The author comes off as a little unhinged. By the end of the book I was feeling like *I* needed a Xanax and I've never taken pills before! lol Didn't help my stress. Made it little worse actually. All the CAPS and bolded sentences made it feel as though she's screaming at you. If you need to calm the F down, choose a different book.

Still reading, still applying.

This purchase was timely as it’s helping me through a stressful remodel triggered my a new multigenerational living situation, losing my job when I’m the sole breadwinner, and now the uncertain outcome of the US presidential election. I’m just started the book and will share a full review later. But for now, it’s keeping my mind off the liquor cabinet.

Terrible

Product had black marks all over the front of it and some of the pages were bent already and the pages were black highly disappointed

Love this book!

Such a good book. I love her writing style. If you don’t like light-hearted, humor or swearing you probably won’t like this book but she’s hilarious. And so so helpful at the same time. She offers a lot of insight that I never even thought about. Highly recommend if you’re like me and stress about stuff constantly lol

Gross political input

Honestly I loved this book.. until she brought up politics. Then it seemed like a downward spiral from there on out. Would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for her political input. Giving her 1 star after. I had several people that wanted to read this after me, but I plan on telling them not to waste their time after that. Gross

Too political

Honestly I wish I could give it zero stars. This book turned out to be more political rather than helping with anxiety. This was my first time reading a book from this author and will be the last. Waste of money and time reading this. I’m a millennial and thought this was too far. Elections are huge triggers for people with anxiety and she made it worse. Maybe Sarah Knight should go into politics.

Should’ve left politics out of it

When I first saw this book I was intrigued; then I started reading it and it was everything I wanted it to be UNTIL she made the political reference on page 9....why do politics have to be brought up in unnecessary places time and time again??? Because the book has value and otherwise is witty and enjoyable to read, we’re going to pretend like it didn’t happen, but for future reference, it could’ve been a 5 star if you’d just left your political opinions to yourself.

Great Book

Absolutely love this book! Sarah Knight writes with humor and honesty. Great recommendations how to get calm and stay calm in any situation.

Ready for change

Only getting started but I definitely need to finish this. So far what I have read it makes me stop and think that I look at everything completely wrong. Looking forward to finishing it and making some major changes.

Lacks useful info, whole lot of stupid rambling.

Literal waste of a money & a read.. Returning for sure, this book rambles more than a 5 year old and is barely offers any advice. I thought maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention until I came back to Amazon to check the reviews and realized that no, I was paying attention hence why I was getting annoyed at the lack of useful info almost mid way through the darn book.

Useable strategies

Crass and funny but addresses the issues and gives workable easy strategies.

Amazing collection!

Love all sarah knights books and video!

She is funny and helpful

Great book for anyone needing the help to regain hold on their life. Want to throw anxiety out the window? Read this book

Just couldn't get past the constant swearing

The title is FUNNY! I bought it since my book club was reading it. It is just too vulgar for me. The swearing never stopped. I never read the whole thing and I threw the book in the recycle bin.

Not a good book, do not buy.

This book was hard to read. I probably wouldn't recommend it to many people. I think the author was trying to be humorous maybe.

Great Read

If you have anxiety this book is a great read!

Awesome read

Sara Knight is a true comedian. I'm sure she might not identify as one, but I literally erupted in laughter countless of times as I read this text. Although, she is not a doctor; she gives realistic advice pertaining to the minor things we stress out about and even the major things. I'd rather take my advice from someone who has experienced anxiety because I feel we can relate to each other.

Self help is always great

I haven’t finished this book yet, half way through. I love it, I personally find it helpful and sometimes funny. I’m always saying “true” every time I read a paragraph lol. The book came in excellent condition and it’s a hard back which I prefer !

Good read! Good laugh along with advice

This book is really funny and light but at the same time it hits you with a nice dose of reality. It’s helpful & easy to read

Messed up title, great book!

So far loving it! Not finished yet!!

Loved it!

I love it! Great insight. Feels like the author knows how my mind works. Can’t wait to get more of her books

Politics

I’ve just started so I can’t give this a true review, but one thing I wish the author had done was leave politics out of it. Politics is a source of frustration and anxiety for many and bringing your political views to a book to help people deal with their anxiety just isn’t right. Hopefully this book gets better.

Great book!

Great book! Delivered quickly!

Too much politics

A lot of quick and easy ways to gain a little control over anxiety. But TOO much politics. I don't need that preaching in this kind of book.

Failed comic

Best selling author because folks are looking for help...not a comedian. Admits not a doctor, therapist or psychologist. Red flag.

No.

Redundant and circular. Couldn't keep my attention since i had to read the same page multiple times.

Must read

Awesome

Zero

Did not enjoy this book - never finished it - waste of my time.

Love this book

Best anxiety book ever

Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I didn't think there could be a self help book better than The Life Changing Magic of not giving a F.... but I believe Calm the F Down will be even more life changing for me. As I've been reading this book I've been putting the principles into practice and it has literally been life changing. I am a very anxious/stressed out person that should buy stock in ostriching (read the book to find out what I'm talking about), and this book gave me an easy way to deal with this. Not to mention Sarah does a fantastic job at writing thoroughly entertaining and engaging self help with laugh out loud humor sprinkled into the mix. If you or someone you know has issues with anxiety, stress, and/or freaking out then this is the holy grail of books. I'd go as far as to say this should be taught in high school and/or college. If you are still reading this review then you should probably just buy the book already.

Pretty cool.

Pretty cool book. Different perspectives on how you approach and see the problem. Let it be. Chill. Just do not really like the title of the book! Too long.

Entertaining But Not Going to Change Your Life

Self-help books start at a severe deficit in that they aren't very helpful. Yet the fact that we think there's a book out there that can cure our generalized anxiety, or help us shed those last 10 pounds for good, or make us rich, keeps the genre going (never mind that if books could save us from ourselves, this country wouldn't be the fat, nervous, broke mess that it is). But if you have to read a self-help book, you could do worse. The author has a very sarcastic sense of humor I relate to. Not everyone will respond to her style, but I found this book pretty amusing. Sarah Knight admits her entire message boils down to the serenity prayer, but she delivers it in an entertaining fashion. I will say I tried to apply the principles from this book to my habit of worrying about everything, and it does work. A little. When you can remember to go through the steps in the midst of a panic. Which is almost never. And for things you have the wherewithal to be able to prioritize and deal with. Which is virtually nothing. But, hey, this book tried. B- for effort.

Some good points, but not sure there's anything new here

I don’t normally read self help books, but this title just spoke to me. Because those who know me, will tell you that’s how I talk. And I definitely suffer from anxiety, so why not give it a try? As you would expect from the title, the author’s style is very flippant. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have some good points. As she says in the Author’s Note, this is basically an extended Serenity Prayer - change what you can, accept what you can’t and be wise enough to know the difference. Will her suggestions work? Maybe. Knight does acknowledge it will all take practice. And sometimes her answers are a little smug and cavalier. Telling someone to get some sleep and deal with the problem tomorrow is great, but doesn’t really work if anxiety has made you into a hard core insomniac. Think I haven’t already tried deep breathing, meditation, etc.? But I can guarantee that you will chuckle frequently while reading this book. FYI, Ms. Knight has strong opinions about the current president. Fair warning if you happen to be a fan of his. I am not. As someone who agrees with her opinion of the “orange howler monkey”, I appreciated her passing on the tip about watching @PepitoTheCat. My thanks to netgalley and Little, Brown for an advance copy of this book.

This book will piss you off, not calm you down.

The other bad reviews say most of it, but every good author of self help books knows that you should play to a neutral audience. In today’s rushed pace and nasty political arena, people buy books like this to find sanity in an otherwise crazy and mixed up world. All this woman did was really piss me off more and want to throw the book in the garbage. She is extremely rude to President Trump in her book. I’m sick and tired of the liberal people in this country being so vocal about their hatred for The President of the US. You may not realize this Ms Knight, but he has very little influence over your tiny insignificant life. So why would you ever decide to bash someone who has no influence in your life in a book that you are writing to help people “control what you can and accept what you can’t so you can stop freaking out and get on with your life”? It was not necessary to make your personal feelings known to your audience. If this was a book on political frustration then your rants would be appropriate, but because it’s not marketed as such, you should keep your personal opinions about people that might be admired by your potential audience out of your “self help” books. Do not bother with this book, unless you’re looking for a book full of foul language (which should be expected by the title and from Sarah Knight), political rants against DJT, and a book to anger you instead of calm you down. It’s poorly written, full of fluff and contains no helpful insights that you can’t find on your local billboards or Facebook.

Disappointing and too general.

I’m a big fan of Sarah Knight’s books and irreverent, sweary self-help approach. On the other hand, Calm the F*ck Down didn’t shed much light on my own struggles with anxiety. Although the book purports itself to be for people exactly like me, I didn’t glean much insight from it. The book deals mainly with generalities and my main take-away from it is the need to alter my perceptions in the face of angst or crisis. In other words, examine the situation and ask myself how much of it is within my control, then act accordingly. If this sounds pretty basic, that’s because it is. Unfortunately, I wasn’t left with much of an impression of the book other than this. There’s also a Choose Your Own Adventure (Disaster) portion of the book that provides hypotheticals and possible solutions, but I found this section both tedious and repetitive and I skimmed a lot of it. Overall, I was disappointed with this book, especially after loving Knight’s first book, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck. For people who have clinical anxiety, you’d probably be better off skipping this and seeing your therapist instead, as you likely won’t gain any new insight into how to better manage your condition. For casual readers of self-help and everyone else, you might find helpful information here. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Too much politics and self promoting.

There are some helpful points in the book. But I didn’t buy the book to read all about her politics. It’s so tiring having that shoved in our faces everyday. When you’re not reading about how basically stupid you are if you voted for the red hat, you’re reading about how the world is ending and how she needs to write this book for her deadline and her editor. Book could be half as long if she would just focus on the material and leave out all the crap. No one cares that you live in the DR, that you have a deadline, and that your editor may not like this book. We bought the book to give us possible invite on calming down. Everytime I read about the president it would make my blood boil.

Absolutely horrible

This book was such an incredible waste of time. It took everything inside of me to finish it, and I did, but only because I have a thing with finishing books I start. The entire tone of the book felt as if I was being lectured by a college freshman who just passed Psych 101 with a B+. The “advice” is so incredibly basic: go to bed & worry about your problems tomorrow, don’t worry about things you can’t control, prioritize your problems. I could go on & on but I rather not. Additionally, the scenarios & examples given in the book to get over anxiety were outlandish and simple minded. For example, how to deal with not turning in a paper on time, a spider getting into your house, your friend being mad at you, etc. When the author finally got into heavier sources of anxiety, it was so obvious she had no idea how to help anyone through divorce, infertility, death etc, she just glazed over it with the same common sense advice. This is easily the worst book I have ever read & the constant advertising plug ins for her other books & reviews were pathetic.

A complete waste of time

If you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, please do not waste your time or money on this book. I didn’t get this book because I thought it would change my life, but I thought this book would at least give some useful tips/procedures to deal with difficult situations. You may be able to squeeze out a bit of useful content if you have situational anxiety and are trying to deal with a specific ordeal at the moment (but I still doubt it). Halfway through, it became painful trying to finish this book. There is little variation in the depth of difficult situations she discusses. She makes comments mentioning that she often worries about getting breast cancer, etc. but she often grazes over these issues. I would find it way more useful to read about how she dealt with calming down during those freak outs than about the random situation she took 3 seconds to come up with before writing it down. Her attempt at being thematic just comes off as redundant. Then, as a ‘young liberal’ (based on the other comments here), I can say I still didn’t like Knight’s constant political comments. I wanted to read about dealing with anxiety, not about how much she hates the president. Before buying, please review these comments to decide if this book is really worth your time.

Sarcastic and political rants.

I purchased this book at an airport and was looking forward to reading while on vacation. I was only a few pages in and right away, Ms. Knight’s snarky and sarcastic tone was apparent and really almost distracting. I decided to give it a chance and at least finish the introduction before being too critical. Page 9, she speaks of her book dealing in reality and not nicety. Then goes on about a few “truths”. One of these truths is that millions of people cast their votes for an ingrown toenail in a cheap red hat in an “election of monumental consequence”. Needless to say, I did not reach page 10. Should have read reviews first. Disappointing and a waste of money.

middling advice, an overplayed joke and insults

I really wanted to like this book and was looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Unfortunately for me that won't be happening. The advice portion is nothing earthshattering. Not really a surprise and after all it's not always the underlying lesson but the different presentation that can make the light bulb go off for a student. In this case the "new" presentation get old fast. As another reviewer stated is seems like about 20 pages of idea and the rest contractual filler. Like a comic with only one joke..it get old fast. Personally I was put off by the blatant insults based on political affiliations. These weren't subtle, humorous or useful in advancing the author's theories. As a practicing, licensed professional I deal with clients of all types, manner and backgrounds, racially, politically and so forth. I would never let my personal views be known and certainly not in a negative or insulting way. How could that person ever trust me as a professional if they thought I viewed them as less of a person ethically or intellectually because of that difference.

Infantile and unfunny

Picked this up at a bookstore. It’s not helpful and the humor is infantile. There is no nugget of actual help. Oh, and there’s a 10 page, unfunny story of being scared by a tarantula in the Dominican Republic. Yawn. From just the first few pages, the author makes it clear she hates the president and loves to curse like a teenager. And not funny, witty cursing but incessant teenager cursing. Ugh. This was torture. I threw it in the trash. Did I mention she hates the president and mentions it for no reason??? Look up Jason Christoff who has real solutions for anxiety.

Read it!

A lot of these 1 star reviews are obviously Trump supporters angry that she made a jab. The content of this book is great. Definitely worth the read.

Don't want politics unless it's the subj of the book

Just started the audiobook and there's 2 political references before the 10 min mark. My social media and daily life are already full of people enraged about politics, so I'd like a break when it isn't even tied into the book topic. I.e. how to calm the f down about current politics instead of just one-liners. I just finished Unf*ck your Habitat, so I don't at all mind the casual tone when it's on topic. I'm continuing on for now and will update if I feel differently throughout. Eventually continued on and listened to the rest. At one point she did as I mentioned and tied politics into a lesson. Unfortunately there were several other pointless one-liners that just distracted me and started my mind wandering away from the book. The one decent take away was evaluating things based on if they may actually happen and how likely that is and secondly, on if there's anything to do to prevent it. A meteor hitting earth is pretty rare and nothing I can change -so I shouldn't waste my worry there. It went into more detail about evaluating stresses, but was still a bit basic.

Turn "Oh No" into "Oh Well"

I have read all of this author's self-deprecating,anti-guru books. As someone who tend to have a bit of a potty mouth myself, I don't mind the curse words at all and know if I am picking up her books, they will be there. What her books also have, this one included, is actual solid advice that works. The author shares personal experiences and provides valuable insight to whichever topic the book is about. In this case, the book is about anxiety and worrying. A book so perfect for me as I am a class A, champion "What-If er" I found myself quoting this book aloud to my husband, who is also a huge worrier and discussing the strategies she lays out to help. They are insightful and helpful and we will actually be using them. I will pick up her next book for sure and definitely recommend this one to those who worry a little or a lot. Just make sure you are okay with curse words:)

Advice from a good, decent liberal

Just trying to balance out the useless one star reviews from Trump trolls who stopped reading at "orange toenail," since amazon has no interest in cracking down on them. Maybe you should stick to Christian self help if you're going to be hardcore triggered by criticism of the most unpopular president in US history. Wow. And supposedly liberals are too sensitive.

Good then Became Another Political Rant.

I REALLY liked this book when I started reading it. There were some really good points, and thought provoking comments throughout. But as I progressed in the book, I felt lost and/or got lost in all the humor and sarcasm. And then I got irritated with the frequency of political comments. This pushed me away from actually finishing the book. I read self help books to help myself, not be drawn back to the political rants that I scroll past daily on my social media. Sarah, I really wanted to like this book, as my anxiety is my worst enemy right now... ...but ultimately, I couldn’t deal with the political comments anymore.

Try a more soothing and logical approach

Other more helpful books are : Albert Ellis. How to Stubbornly Refuse to Make Yourself Miserable about Anything: Yes Anything! And Michael Singer, The untethered soul. The book above is neither well organized nor well thought out. Granted, the author likes x word, but does that make a book? I guess so, or anything can get published these days. I believe knight isn't suffering from anxiety but from ADHD. That's how the book reads. There's a lack of focus. If I had presented this type of writing in grad school, I wouldn't have gotten it past my advisor. Knight ought to be embarrassed about such a poor presentation to the public.

Fun and Innovative way to Get Needed Advice

I actually bought this book at a local bookstore but have since bought others in the series off Amazon, and have found this author insightful and fun to read. She uses methods that, as a graduate student in psychology, I find enjoyable and actually useful for someone who has a cluttered mind. Her use of some standard methods, like DBT, are honestly ones that I have found useful before in therapy settings. Beyond that, she tries to make the book cheerful and easy for everyone to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone who has trouble "not worrying about everything" and who wants to find a way to try and relax more and worry less. I have been reading this book for a few days and I already find myself worrying less, standing up for myself more, and overall acting like a better human being. Those around me have already noted a change in my demeanor and attitude for the better, both of which are positive outcomes that I attribute to following the advice given in this book.

A Waste. There Are Far Better Options

Snarky political commentary, glib advice, & unfunny attempts at humor, but no new ideas here. Excerpts: “In those days I had a tendency to melt down faster than a half pound of raclette at a bougie Brooklyn dinner party...” Next paragraph, “Here [Dominican Republic] the weather changes faster than the Real Housewives’ loyalties.” If this resonates with you, than have at it. If you want helpful advice without profanity and politics try “How To Stop Worrying And Start Living” by Dale Carnegie.

Exactly what I needed to read

Let me tell you. I hate it when people tell me to Calm Down. I saw this book at Target and it was exactly what I needed. In fact my friend needed it too so I sent her a copy too. I am going thru a upsetting life experience right now and this book is really helping me tackle what I need to do. Now if you don't like the F word. Don't bother with this book. It will not end well for you. If your easy going and dont give a darn then this book will speak to you. I almost feel like Sarah Knight is a long lost friend. She spoke to me in this book and I loved it.

POLITICAL VIEWS DISGUISED AS SELF-HELP BOOK

I actually have been struggling really bad with anxiety for a little over a year now and it has affected my whole life. I googled stuff first and found a list on one of the first 2 searches with steps to relieve anxiety... this book was pretty much just those same steps but written over and over in different metaphors (that were really more like just personal stories of Sarah Knight's life that aren't really relatable.) The steps are useful, but you can get that same information from google and not have to listen to someone use their book platform to spread their personal political reviews. I finally stopped when I got to page 138 "The president is an unhinged narcissist, the ruling political party is composed largely of simpering cowards, and affordable health care is nothing more than a collective hallucination- treatment for which is not covered by your insurance." I didn't order a book about politics. Sarah Knight thinks Trump was elected and the whole world has anxiety over it.... we don't. And the chapter goes on in a counter-productive rant that discredits all the advice she told us to apply. Also, wouldn't have bothered writing a review if she didn't discuss so much how her editor would feel about her chapters, about how she was stressing about her deadlines, and how people review her content. Honestly, sounds like this lady just got some people to listen but ran out of things to say and then just tried to do some fear-mongering, anxiety-driving, political ted-talks.

Unfortunately disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Co. for approving my request to read and review Calm the F*ck Down by Sarah Knight. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I began this book. This is the first book I've read by this author, I found humor among the advice on how to accept what you can't control and how to deal with these things. I enjoyed the author's sense of humor but found myself scanning the pages more than actually reading them. I felt that there was too much "fluff" added to fill space. Which is unfortunate because I had hoped for more from this book because of the author's hype from previous books.

Not as self aware as I thought

I got the audiobook on audible.com. Some neutral self help tips sprinkled with anti-Trump derogatory comments. Can it be she isn't self aware enough to realize she would alienate half her potential audience? Where was the editor? Won't be looking at any of the others.

it's all things we already know just don't want to acknowledge

I love the bluntness of this and all of Sarah Knight's books; because lets face it; it's all things we already know just don't want to acknowledge. Sarah Knight is not only making us acknowledge it but also giving us a new, obviously better way to look at it. Or maybe she just makes it seem like it's something we all should already know, like how is this not common sense? I've always said it's a lot easier taking advice from random strangers than someone who "wants the best for you;" and that's how I feel about this in comparisons to other books written by "professionals." It's things we need to hear in a tone that we need to hear them in.

Pleased Overall

Change what you can, accept what you can’t and be wise enough to know the difference. That's the core principle in Sarah Knight's Calm The F* Down. Tips and tricks abound for addressing anxiety and worry, the dreaded analysis paralysis. Sarah Knight writes conversationally, but sarcasm abounds. I very much enjoyed her style, but I can see it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I'm not sure just how much of what was covered was new, but I definitely enjoyed the experience. If nothing else it reminded me that "If this is the worst that happens....this is not that bad." I appreciated her humor and her candidness. 3.5 I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

Politics?!?! Really?!?!

I was looking forward to reading this book. I was hoping to get some great insight and perspective from the author. Instead, political innuendos in the first few pages. Really!?!?! Now I need political opinion in my self help books?!?!?! I can’t tell you what’s in the rest of the book. I never made it beyond 7 pages. If you want a good book on this subject that actually offers awesome and useful tools, try Unstoppable by Craig Balentyne. I’ve read that book five times. Make a cup of coffee, use this book as kindling to get a nice fire going in the fireplace and read Unstoppable... or anything else.

OMG!

Please don’t buy this book! What a shame that Knight feels free to take advantage of those trying to become healthier and happier by offering complete dribble and nonsense in this complete waste of paper. Her humor is sophomoric at best and she can’t resist bringing her politics into play. What a complete waste of time!

Practical advice to fight anxiety, wrapped up in humor and sarcasm

This is the first of the No-F*cks-Given Guides I’ve read and I loved it. Author Sarah Knight is very blunt (sometimes to the point of it seeming forced or insincere), and gives realistic scenarios. I found her advice common-sense and practical - I tested some of it myself when I felt anxious today. She shows a great sense of humor and uses generous amounts of sarcasm. And read the footnotes; they’re great. Importantly, she is clear that she is not a healthcare professional and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with seeking out the help of a professional. She also never pill-shames as she realizes that for many people, this is necessary. I recommend this book for anyone who is frequently anxious. Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley for review purposes.

Political Rant

Political rag. Ignored the first political slur, by the time she called the President "an ingrown toenail in a Red Hat", I realized that calming and self control were perhaps not the author's strengths. This is the first book I have ever returned in my life. Sad !

No...save your money

I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this book was horrible. It’s literally all over the place and makes absolutely not points what so ever. Not sure if she was drunk while writing or has ADD. When trying to explain something - she gets way off subject and never comes back to it. Wish I could get a refund. I am telling the honest to god truth do not buy this book

Too basic, maybe good for young people.

Good for a teenager or young college person. Every situation and possible solutions in this book are just basic common sense. It doesn't offer anything helpful about dealing with irrational bouts of anxiety. To me it read more like a self help book parody than an actual self help book, too much random humor irrelevant to the point. Too many random political commentary that even if I agree with, will make this book obsolote in a few years. Not a total waste of time but glad I got it at the library for free.

Don’t Buy This Book!

I didn’t buy this book to read about author’s opinions on politics and current president. Most of the book is silly. Don’t buy it. Total waste of time and money. No talent.

Arrogant, Immature Author Offering Life Advice

I've never written a review of a book but I found this one particularly unsettling. As someone with very bad anxiety that has gotten much worse over the course of 2020, I turned to this book for help. The last thing I needed was to have someone's political opinions shoved down my throat yet again. Not even political opinions, just petty attacks, i.e. "ingrown toenail in a cheap red hat". The author seems immature and arrogant and doesn't have any business instructing others on how to deal with life.

I don’t give a %*@# about your political opinions.....

Seriously, I don’t give a %*@# about your political opinions....guess it’s my bad I didn’t read the first few pages because of so, I’d have saved my money. I didn’t buy this to get your opinion on politics or the president or who the author would like to get arrested for treason.... for this reason, one star and zero if possible.

Just $&@#ing Bad

I couldn’t get past the first 20 pages. She tied too hard to be funny, too much patting her own back and I really don’t care that you don’t like our President. A total waste of time and money.

I'd give it zero stars if I could

The author thought she would be cute by including her political views into her book and insulting those of us who don't share her views. She was wrong. Don't discuss Religion or Politics in a book not filed under that topic.

Awful

Zero stars if I could. Terrible. 7 pages in, politics. 9th page, more politics. Please, save your money. After page 9 I closed the book. Will be returning.

Too political

I couldn’t get past page 9. I don’t care your political views and to call the president ‘an ingrown toenail in a cheap red hat’. I didn’t buy this book to learn about her political preference. It didn’t help me ‘calm the f*** down.

I really liked it

The author is very clear from the start that she is not a doctor but aiming to be that friend that tells you how it is. She does just that. She is funny and very smart in her way of approaching anxiety. I feel like if you are the type of person who worries a lot about the what ifs you will benefit from this book. On personal note I just want to say I think its very brave and awesome the author has turned her own anxiety issues into a plus. She is helping others who are still in the fog of what do I do. Give it a shot its good if you remember she is not going to sugar coat anything. Most of us do need to just need to calm down.

Kinda like taking a lesson from a hypocrite.

I really tried with this book. The whole idea of the book is to teach you to calm down, and accept what you can’t control. Got it. However, she often throws comments in there about the then president and her distaste for him. I get it, however, she can’t control who the president is ultimately. Sooo tell me, how is that accepting what you can not control? Seems like she’s wasting those precious “freak out funds” on something she can’t control.

Best Book I’ve Read in 2019

I did not know what to expect from this book...the title certainly pulled me in. Boy oh boy was I in for a surprise! This book did not disappoint and someone with Anxiety myself it was spot on in so many ways. I am so happy Sarah put a real No seriously a REAL VOICE to anxiety and how it’s affects so many. Thank you Sarah and I am looking forward to reading to rest of your books indeed!! Ps I had it on Audible and listen to it felt more like a conversation than a book ...all the better!!!

Practical and clear.

While she may have a different approach to life, i found this book to be very useful. It helped me greatly during a stressful time in my career and was practical in everyday life. It is the first book of hers i have read and i am looking forward to trying others of hers. Gives practical and reliable ways to ...well...calm the f*ck down no matter how large or small your stressoutessout.

Worst book I’ve wasted my time reading

Repetitive. Can’t stay on track on the actual topic of the chapter. Hard to stay engaged in the book. She doesn’t know how to write/talk to her audience. For example, making “funny” comments about the president, I ignored at first. But when you’re making fun of other people for wearing TOMS, that’s just ignorant and annoying. Did you know TOMS gives a pair of shoes to someone in need when you buy a pair? It’s a great cause.

I’m not the type to LOL but this book had me ROTFLMAO ;)

Five effing stars. I’d give more if I could. Cannot help it. I’m a huge effing fan of Sarah’s. I think she is brilliant in a fun way. She is not a psychiatric professional and doesn’t purport to be one. She’s smart, funny, and knows how to entertain. And I have found not only supreme enjoyment in reading and listening to her, as well as an attitude adjustment. Maybe not for everyone but DEFINITELY for me, and many of my friends for whom I have gifted books from the No F*cks Guide series. I’m not a paid reviewer just a big fan. Keep ‘em coming Sarah!

Excellent!

This book is awesome. She has a very conversational style and a great sense of humour. She teaches how to deal with events and how to calm down. Be warned she swears and is irreverent. I enjoy that style and really enjoyed the book. I found it a very useful tool for when life throws crap at you and you have to deal.

Great For Anxiety

Thank you NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for giving me this advanced readers copy. I love how Sarah talks about anxiety in a very down to earth way. I love her straight forward approach to the ever so stressful topic. I also enjoy the questions and workbook type exercises! This book is great for anyone who wants the down and dirty truthfulness about anxiety.

entertaining

Book #5 Read in 2019 Calm the F*Down by Sarah Knight This "self-help" book is funny and entertaining...and somewhat helpful. Knight tells you how to calm down and deal with stuff once it happens and that you cannot control some things. I will read her other books for entertainment. I borrowed this book from the public library.

Hilarious

People often times don't appreciate when someone is able to call you out on your issues... Kudos to Sarah Knight for doing just that, while also admitting her own. Her honest, humorous advice has helped me tremendously. There is no one size fits all way to deal with anxiety, so if you think this will be your cure, you're reading the wrong book. Awesome tips on how to learn that a lot of life is out of our control!

Awful

This book is terrible. I hated it and am sorry for the few pages I read. Horrible language and an insult! I hope I get credit for this immature and insultive discouraging book!! What a disgust! Wow!

Trash

A politically biased book when there is really no need for any political opinions here at all. Couldn’t be bothered with finishing this garbage.

Simply fabulous

One of the best books I have ever read along with wonderful humor. This book can really help people who are smart and appalled at a lot of what’s going on in the world.

Must Read for Anziety

Wow, what a book! I couldn't put it down. It gives such great directives on how to navigate your anxiety in a fresh way. It's a great take on the "namastay" approach I've read over and over again and have yet to implement. The tactics shown in this book have been easy to implement, easy to understand, and have already helped me make a huge change in how I react to various situations. Whether you have anxiety or just know someone with it, I highly recommend this book!

What a zinger!!

Sarah Knight has a way of telling you how not to give a F about things that don’t matter and learning to change what you can control to make your life calmer. Fun and quirky but makes you think differently about how to tackle your problems

I can’t stop recommending this book to everyone I know!

I loved this book not just because I laughed a lot, but I found the techniques very useful and have used them daily. Needless to say, I’m much calmer now. I got it from the library but am going to buy a copy in case I need a refresher. Highly recommended!!!

love love love this book.

highly recommend!

I'm a fan

Very sound advice for dealing with life's sh*tstorms, that is IF you actually write sh*t down and start dealing with it. I love all of her four books so far. This one and G.Y.S.T. are actually the ones that offer the most practical advice in my opinion, but you need to do the work. Would love a journal or workbook for this one as well like there ist for GYST.

Check it out

Great read by a very down to earth and relatable author. This book was just what I needed at a time when I was really struggling with anxiety and panic attacks.

I guess Vulgarity is in demand

What utter trash. This author had an idea, ‘ let me camouflage the serenity prayer with as much coarseness and raunch to sell book’. Zero original thought. The author seems to really get a kick out of herself. This book is narcissistic grossness. It’s so sad that a gimmick like this has an audience.

Not worth your $

There was nothing useful in this book that would help me the slightest bit with anxiety. It felt like the author was trying too hard to be funny.

Could have been helpful.....

It’s unfortunate that this “self help” book quickly became a platform for bashing the president, government and country! Whatever island paradise she lives on, I hope she stays there and doesn’t vote! At first I considered buying her other books but I think I’ll save my money!

Not a Substitute for Professional Therapy

The title of the book, aka “Snap out of it!”, is not the first approach to anxiety self help; nor is this book a substitute for professional therapy.

Getting tired

Getting overused now compared to her other books, this one is 12 step replayed with her magic word added.

Disappointed

Enjoyed the book til she felt the need to make references to how she felt politically. At that point I shut the book to dispose of and shared with friends whom I had already told how excited I was to read it to not bother. Political opinions should be kept out of self help books. I’m extremely disappointed

Absolutely Phenomenal

The people who rated this a one star book are all ingrown toenail with a red cap lovers. Advice Ted to reading this book almost finished in the first day of purchase. I also bought the audiobook because personally it helps me stay focused when reading. Absolutely love it. Worth the read for sure if you’re trying to improve your life when dealing with any form of anxiety.

life changing

Amazing, well written. Funny. Easy logical . Has helped me tremendously.

Learning and laughing at the same time

This book has helped me more than any other. It's easy to read and you will be laughing all the way through it. The best part is your learning things as your laughing!

Loved it!

Another excellent book from Sarah Knight!

Incredible

Sarah Knight has done it again. I love it! The whopper story was incredible.

Helpful and hysterical!

These are the funniest and most helpful “how to navigate life” books ever. Many great tools for anxiety management in this volume but get them all-you’ll laugh your way into feeling better:)

First of all, I love the title!

How can you see this title and not want to buy it!

Skip it

I don’t even know how this made it to publishing. I guess if you’re privileged you may enjoy this book. I’m glad she mentions she’s privileged though. You don’t need to read this book to know that you need to calm down, figure out your options, and do whatever it is you need to do. She doesn’t help with much else.

Not a patch on the other two books I have read from this series

Much as I loved ‘The Life-Changing Magic...’ and ‘Get Your Sh*t Together’, I found this addition to the series somewhat formulaic and simplistic but did flag some ideas that might be useful. However, the excessive repetition, especially regarding ‘dealing with your chosen adventure’, is extremely irritating and totally unnecessary. Took the edge off what could have been a good, if superficial, read. Has made me think twice about ‘You Do You’.

Humorous!

Really like the author’s books and only have one to go. This is definitely not for everyone, but if you want a light hearted approach to helping you get anxiety under control, this is a good choice for you. It hasn’t solved all my problems (not was I expecting it to), but it has helped me put things into perspective.

Missed the spot for me - shame

Enjoyed the rest of Sarah Knights books but never gelled with this one. But I still highly recommend the author and other her other works - books are such subjective items

Too much swearing

Too much swearing

Buy all of her books...

Love these books. Sarah Knight has a way of telling you how it is in a no-nonsense way. Lots of sound advice for getting through life and being the best version of yourself.

The book arrived damaged on the spine. Doesn’t bother me too much considering the book is for myself, however if it were a gift I would be sending it back.

Love it

Great book

Lovely collection

Lovely collection- this book it to the point!

Hard to read.

This book wasn’t for me. The way in which it was written gives me anxiety...I couldn’t even finish it. Also, this is the first book I’ve read from this author, and I found it pretty annoying how she seemed to brag about her success and her life every few pages.

Refreshing

Great book

Good quality!

Great book!

Battered and bruised

Poor quality - dog eared and a scratch across the front - just as well it wasn’t a gift
