You Do You: How to Be Who You Are and Use What You've Got to Get What You Want (A No F*cks Given Guide Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,519 ratings

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck and Get Your Sh*t Together comes more straight talk about how to stand up for who you are and what you really want, need, and deserve -- showing when it's okay to be selfish, why it's pointless to be perfect, and how to be "difficult."

Being yourself should be easy, yet too many of us struggle to live on other people's terms instead of our own. Rather than feeling large and in charge, we feel little and belittled.

Sound familiar? Bestselling "anti-guru" Sarah Knight has three simple words for you: YOU DO YOU.

It's time to start putting your happiness first -- and stop letting other people tell you what to do, how to do it, or why it can't be done. And don't panic! You can do it without losing friends and alienating people. Knight delivers her trademark no-bullsh*t advice about:

The Tyranny of "Just Because" The social contract and how to amend it Turning "flaws" into strengths -- aka "mental redecorating" Why it's not your job to be nice Letting your freak flag fly How to take risks, silence the doubters, and prove the haters wrong

Praise for Sarah Knight: "Genius." --
Cosmopolitan "Self-help to swear by." -- The Boston Globe "Hilarious... truly practical." -- Booklist

I originally got You Do You because it was on sale and I thought I had read her first book, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F***. (It turns out that I had actually read Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*, which is also good, but now I'm going to have to read Sarah Knight's book, since I enjoyed this one so much.)

This book was hilarious. If you're offended by foul language, you might want to skip it. I certainly wouldn't read it aloud at work, but I found it hilarious. She also gave a lot of really good, useful advice, while making it fun to read. I learned a lot and was reminded of things that I already knew. She's vulnerable and shares her experiences, which made me feel heard and less alone.

I highly recommend it. It's a fun read. I'll let you know how her other books are when I get to them, too.

I loved the first two and this one does not disappoint. Tons of practical advice and nuggets that will serve you well in your every day life. I read it in 3 days and loved every single section. Funny, useful, thoughtful, and possibly life changing? Yes, please! These books have a permanent spot on my nightstand. I refer back to them on a pretty regular basis. Thank you Sarah for having the voice & the wit to say the things we all need to hear.

Also... doing a grab bag of my favorite things for my friends this year for Christmas This will definitely be in there.

This is my favorite Sarah Knight book so far. I thought the language might be offputting at first, but the further I got into the book, the funnier it got. The content was very helpful to someone who, at the age of 53, lost her job and decided to take the non-conventional path of being a writer. You can imagine how my dad feels. That was the other aspect of the book that was helpful. As someone who believed in putting family first, disappointing Dad is actually harder than the struggle of momentary lack of income. So her section on NOT putting family first was what I needed to hear. And the humor - OMG the humor! I laughed so hard reading this. Sarah is so misanthropic she may be my soul sister! Thank you for this book, Sarah, and keep writing!

I purchased this book because I thought I was the outlier or one that was always in the wrong, but really I just needed to accept me a little more. This book was very relatable to me and issues in my life and I thoroughly enjoyed the time reading it. I know I'll revisit it from time to time when I need to remember that I come first in my own life.

Fantastic book! It takes a look at yourself from a different perspective. Very funny and entertaining perspective as well! Great message! If you can me okay with being you it is much easier to be okay with other people being themselves. To be less judgmental of yourself, helps a lot in being less judgmental of others. But, honestly, read the book. It's lots of fun! Thank you thank you Sarah

I've read Sarah's previous books and loved them, so this one could not be any different. Where the other 2 made me laugh and helped me more than I thought books ever could, You Do You has been better than years of therapy and helped me gain a deeper understanding of issues I've been dealing with since I can remember (obligation, guilt and fear, I'm looking at you). I love the way this (and the other 2 books) are written; its fun, funny, honest and super relatable. Definitely worth it!
