Lindsay A. Franklin has created a devotional specifically for young women (I would recommend for high school and college age audiences). The book is a perfect size (5.25" x 7.5") for keeping on a nightstand or for carrying in a backpack. I love that the days are just labeled with a number, (e.g "Day 36" instead of a specific date). We've all started new devotionals and occasionally find that we've missed a day. With just days numbered, you can just pick up where you left off and not stress about whether the date matches the day you read it. Numbered days also makes it very easy to start the devotional at any point in a year. There is a bookmark sewn into the binding so you can easily mark keep track of your place. The cover itself is beautiful. The script title and the floral pattern (including foiling), is a very sweet and feminine look that is pretty enough to leave out on display, and increases the likelihood of reading it daily. Franklin includes selections that focus on various women in the Bible and how they can serve as an example to young women today. Each page has a Bible verse and a short devotional providing some insight into that character and encouraging girls to see how much God loves them and how He wants to transform them more into his image. Young women will find encouragement to reach out to others by showing compassion, learn to put others before themselves, find forgiveness when they fail, and serve others where they can. I love that there is room at the bottom for journaling--lines are provided where the reader can comment on what they have learned or make a note of something they would like to apply in their life. It would be interesting to compare thoughts from one year to another when going through the devotional again. Christmas is a great time to gift this beautiful book to a young woman in your life. At a time when so many make resolutions for the new year, what better goal than to daily be in God's word! It would also make a lovely gift for Easter, birthday or even graduation. In a world with so much stress and pressure, this devotional can help young women understand how beloved they are to their heavenly Father.

First I want to say what a beautiful book! It was setting out when my 13 year old daughter’s best friend noticed it, immediately picked it up and mentioned what a pretty book! (Mission accomplished.) And this is one book that can be judged by its cover. It’s even more beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. Beloved 365 Devotions for Young Women is a blessing for the upcoming generation of girls. The daily devotions begin with the first 6 days specifically affirming girls’ eternal value through biblical truths. Then, beginning with day 7, the focus shifts into Genesis looking at the first woman, Eve. The devotions progress generally in chronological order through the Bible, focusing on the roles and influence specific women had throughout biblical history. Ms Franklin speaks toward younger women, using familiar language, and engaging them thoughtfully. The writing is concise, easy to read and understand. There is a subtle focus on the women’s perspectives within each story, transitioning with natural progression from one storyline to the next. Each day is tied to the next with explanations of events happening around the key verses so the reader stays connected. It feels like a continual reading, not disjointed as some devotional collections tend toward. Recommended: Absolutely! I loved reading this book. And it’s out in stores just in time for Christmas (I recently spotted it on shelves in our local Christian bookstore)! Grab a copy for the young women on your gift list. They will be blessed, throughout the next 365 days.

When I saw this book come up for review I knew the perfect young lady to share it with. Bonus that she was interested in helping to review it as well! Jennifer is a young lady of fourteen, who is very engaged with her spiritual growth and walk with God. She is open to the world of possibilities that her faith has to provide to her and the enjoyment and joy she finds in life, and God, is contagious and engaging. She is a kind, gentle soul that is filled with encouragement and grace. Obviously, I'm pretty fond of this young lady and I am super excited to bring her to the blog today. We are reviewing a year long devotional/journal aimed specifically at young ladies such as herself. Obviously, we aren't going to wait a year to do this review so we've agreed to each look at at least 5 random days and compare notes. Much like I have done with Minion review before, I'm going to share her thoughts and takeaways from this book as well as my own. The rating however? All hers! Jennifer really enjoyed this book with her information following. I loved how the scripture was the example and reference point as so many other devotionals I've had were based more off the authors life experiences of that of a fictional character. There were a few times I got confused with what to write in the journal part. Sometimes with verses that I was familiar and comfortable with I felt like the provided devotion part covered my takeaway (Day 199). Other times I was introduced to scripture that I wasn't as familiar with and they really spoke to me (Day 194). From my perspective I also loved this book. I feel like the devotional and journal together is something that you can carry with you throughout life. The ability to go back and read where you were at, say 14, as an adult is intangible. To see your growth and perspective change with life experience and growth. Each devotional was rooted in the scripture but was also set up to encourage the reader to go back and explore more of the scripture than just the shared verse for that devotional. To be fair, as mentioned above, I didn't read every single day. However, each time I opened the book to dig in a little I started at day 25, no matter where I was aiming it was day 25. Day 25 bothered me a bit. The scripture reference was based on Hagar when she was running from Abraham and Sarah and the angel appeared to her and told her to return and submit to Sarah. The devotional portion of this talked about how we should submit to those in authority such as our parents, teachers, leaders, government, etc but that we should not be bound to do things that did not follow God's law. It also talked about how we should not submit ourselves to abuse. The thing is, when looking at that through younger eyes I feel like it's a setup for possible disaster. When in an abusive situation (like Hagar) many times the victim believes they are the one at fault and therefore should submit to their abuser . . . See where I'm going here? Out of all the devotions in this book I kept ending up at this one and feeling like we weren't setting clear examples and expectations to protect our young women (and even aged women) from the tentacles of abuse. However, of the many that I looked at that is also the only devotion that gave me pause. Overall, I feel like this is a great devotional for any young woman regardless of where she is with her walk with God. It's a good way to provide scriptural depth to someone new to her faith while still being able to deepen spiritual depth for someone so very grounded in their faith. I think this is the perfect time of the year to look for a new devotional, or even commit to starting one if you’re like me. I got the the chance to review Zondervan’s brand new devotions book, aimed at young women like myself, and thought this would be a great chance to get something I can read daily. I’ve got to admit that, at first glance, the shorter devotions were kind of off-putting for me. Not that I’m expecting a huge sermon or anything, but I guess I love to read. Once I finished the first day, I realized I actually liked it! Obviously, I can’t really speak for the whole book since I have to read one page a day, but I think it’s great so far! The devotions are short, and get straight to the point, but I actually felt like I was learning something. The tone the devotions were written in actually helped, honestly, since I can easily put the book down if I feel like I’m forced to remember so much information. The book touches on important issues in our society today, such as abuse and feeling lower than men (but they do not mean it as feminism). The main focus of the whole devotional seems to be self-value, and that is something I greatly appreciate as that is something I’ve struggled with many years of my life while I’ve been growing up. The only thing I don’t really understand is the little notes for after the devotional. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t always have a bunch to say after reading a verse and two paragraphs (unless I’m in some writing mood). The devotional does use NIV, which seems to be what everything is using today, and that is one thing that bugged me to a point since I’m an avid KJV user, but I’m able to look past that to learn something new daily. Otherwise, I really like the devotional! I mean, pink isn’t really my favorite color, but I still like it okay. 🙂 Not everyone has a great role model in their life, and I’m positive that this would be the perfect gift for an aspiring young woman of God. As the title states, Beloved is focused for females, providing examples with stories featuring females in the Bible. Add in a daily verse, and area to take down notes and thoughts, it will not only be a great daily reminder and inspiration, but also a journal of the reader's thoughts. In all, Beloved is it. What a beautiful devotional! I love the design and size of this book. I believe this is the first time I’ve seen a daily devotional written specifically for young women and I think it is fantastic. This book has 365 devotions, one for every day of the year and each devotion highlights inspiring stories from women and girls of the bible. What an awesome way for young women to connect more with the women of the bible as well as discover more about themselves as women and their relationship with God and others. Each devotional includes a scripture, devotion and a space for note taking or prayer. This would make an excellent gift for young women. Beloved Devotional There seems to be a theme with me lately, flowers galore! This beautiful Beloved devotional book from Zondervan that I was blessed to review is covered in flowers and I am so in love with it! Well, Ana actually helped me review this one because it says “for young women” and I’m not all sure that I fit into that category anymore. BUT, you can still totally use this too if you want. It’s so lovely that I would use it just because I enjoyed looking at it. This devotional book is for year round use. No excuses, just one page a day, no more than a 5-10 minute moment in your day. This book pours into everything that it means to be a woman of God. Oh how much I enjoyed being reminded over and over again that He loved me for who I am. That He created women for a purpose, not as an afterthought or as a convenience, like the world would like us to believe. THIS is why He created us – “We’re His daughters. Valued. Adored. Cherished. Beloved.” Yesssssssss! As I passed this along to Ana for her to use and look over I was so very pleased to know that there was so much goodness coming from this devotional. Nowhere did I comments that put down women, that discouraged women to be anything other than God designed and created us for. Such much worldly garbage would have young women to believe that we ARE what the world says we are. But This incredible devotional puts women back where they belong, in God’s hands and so very preciously held. The Design I love the hardcover design because honestly I am pretty rough on books. A hardcover means it will stay a whole lot nicer over the years, at least in my house. Also, the front and back are covered in beautiful flowers and it is very appealing to look upon. The interior pages have the day listed, a Bible verse, the devotional section, then there is a section to jot a few notes. Each interior page is outlined with a pink floral band that is visually pleasing. Final Thoughts If I didn’t already have a young woman in mind for this devotional, then I would be looking for one to purchase this for. Again, I am so impressed by not only the stunning look but of the truth of God’s word that I read. This is a devotional well worth getting for your young woman or for that matter, any woman that you know that could use a sweet reminder of who she REALLY is not who the world says she is. So much good can be found in this Beloved devotional and it is wonderful because it covers an entire year. Imagine being able to pour into someone 365 days a year. Think about how this could change someone’s life, even your own. Oh the possibilities!

Zondervan has a new devotional out for young women called, Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women written by Lindsay A. Franklin. This devotional has one page to read each day of the year that includes a Bible verse, some devotional thoughts from the author and some space at the bottom of each page for notes. The book begins with verses in Genesis and moves through the whole Bible taking verses that speak specifically about women and applies it to the life of young women today. This book would be appropriate for teens. I thought the author tried to approach the reader on their level when talking about the daily verse. I wish there was a little more depth to the devotional, but it’s more about a thought for the day than deep study. In Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women, Lindsay Franklin uses inspirational stories from girls and women in the Bible to encourage young women. I love the title of this devotional, and the daily reminder for whoever is holding this book that they are beloved. Young women are put under such scrutiny to perform, perfect, and outdo one another that it becomes exhausting and defeating. How important to be reminded that whoever they are, wherever they are, that they are beloved by the God who created them. Geared towards high school and college students, each one-page devotional includes a short Scripture verse, a relatable message that is sometimes humorous, and often deep and reflective, as well as space to journal. It's difficult to get all of those elements on one page, but Beloved does it quite well. If I could change one thing, I'd remove the journalling space to replace with a closing prayer. This devotional would make an excellent gift for students who are interested in digging deeper into Scripture and learning from women in the Bible. Readers will be caught by surprise by how their current trials or circumstances can be found in Scripture and were also faced by young women in the Bible.

The daily readings are 1 page long, starting with a verse or 2, then a short story or encouraging lesson from the Bible. There are several blank lines at the bottom of each page that the reader is encouraged to fill in with an action or idea that was sparked by the reading. This layout, cover and just simple beauty of this hard bound gift style book is very inviting to any young woman. There is even a ribbon book mark that matches the book to be used to mark the place for the next reading. I really like that the daily passages are just labeled "Day 1" "Day 2" etc, rather than starting with January 1 and continuing through December. This makes the book perfect to give as a gift any time of year. And this book definitely will make a wonderful gift for any young woman. BELOVED is a collection of 365 devotions geared toward young women to remind them that they are important in the eyes of God, regardless of culture, history, or circumstances. This would be a lovely giftbook for a young lady in your life for either her birthday, Christmas, or a just because I love you gift. I would like this available in KJV for that crowd, but it does have the NIV for verses which is widely accepted. The devotional does include the women mentioned above but also includes Dinah, Haggar, and others. There is a verse, the devotion, and lines to write your thoughts, a prayer, or whatever comes to mind. I like this beautifully done devotional - one for each day of the year. What does it man to be a daughter of God, especially when one is a modern teenager? BELOVED: 365 DEVOTIONS FOR YOUNG WOMEN by Lindsay A. Franklin looks to answer that question and more, not by looking to social media's newest darlings but by examining the lives of over 60 women of the Bible. With a Bible verse referenced at the beginning, each devotion is just a few paragraphs long and is followed with room for brief notes or journaling. Despite being short, the devotions cut to the core of each scripture and always pose a question or thought for the modern teen to ponder and act upon. The metallic letting on the cover and the floral edged pages with a ribbon book marker make this an attractive, inviting volume. But the best feature of this devotional is the up beat message that every teen needs to hear -- "We're his (God's) daughters, Valued, Adored, Cherished, Beloved." (p. 5) BELOVED would be a wonderful gift for a teenage girl and will provide a full year of wisdom and godly examples. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are mine.

This book is for you if... you are a woman of God, you are (or know) a woman in her teens and twenties, you are looking for a devotional about what God says about women in the Bible My Thoughts: I love that this devotional speaks to women specifically, highlighting the way God wired us uniquely. “Your identity as a woman matters to God, beloved daughter, so let’s see what He has to say about it.” It’s geared toward girls ages 16-25, but it has some great insights for all women. (And it’s perfect to share with the young females in your ministry or family!) It’s a topical devotion that uses stories of women in the Bible to encourage faith and confidence in young women. It talks about topics like relationships, inner beauty, and pursuing your goals. Each day includes a short passage of Scripture about a girl in the Bible and a devotional that helps girls think about the passage. It also includes a couple of journaling lines so girls can respond or pray in writing. I like that it leaves space for journaling and that it walks through full stories of the women in the Bible. For example, even though it doesn’t cover the entire book of Esther, it still focuses on Esther for almost 3 weeks. The only thing I’d change would be the colors.
