Good, disagree with Toph's actions
I really didn't feel like this comic represented Toph well. I like all the other comics but the way they betrayed Toph didn't sit with me well. It didn't fit her character. While she may be blunt, she is also clear sighted, like with knowing Zuko was best to train Aang in the series. In this comic, she could not see clearly and was completely clouded by emotions and it seemed just allowed to treat Aang who had been an amazing friend to her l crap, then get away with it. Katara did nothing about it either? Katara never had issue butting heads with Toph before, it's part of their friendship. Toph caused Aang to have to hurt/possibly kill a spirit which could deeply hurt him. There should have been more repercussions. It's not a healthy or seemingly very canon way to betray their friendship. The ending was decent and over all plot was good, so I just take away 1 star for the inaccurate character behavior of Toph.
Amazing comic
This is the newest addition to the series of avatar comics, and follows the same formatting as the others. The book is hardback and has quite a bit of weight to it compared to other books. The cover has vibrant colors, as do all of the pages contained in it. The only difference between this version of the comics and the individual volumes is that this contains all three volumes of Smoke and Shadow, has bigger pages, concept art, and notes from the creators in the margins of the pages. For the price, you would be losing money if you bought all the volumes individually, so I highly recommend getting this edition. As for the story, it's no worse than the other avatar comics. It's not better either, but maintains the same level of quality that you would expect from the avatar universe. The plot features Zuko as the main character, as does 2/3 of the other comic series, which can be disappointing if you're expecting much from other characters. The only plus to this is that Zuko's supporting characters are incredibly interesting, and the lore of the fire nation doubly so. Overall, this is an amazing book and I will continue to look forward to purchasing future avatar series comics.
Great and very enjoyable
Love the spirits, toph, avatar yangchen, and the original characters. Definitely read The Rift. I really enjoyed the parts of this that set up things that we see in the Legend of Korra universe too.
Go toph
Toph is badass.i mean see saved people from a mine calapase.again there are sweet kataang parts but still the focus is on toph and how awesome she is.Her dad though is seriously an idiot at first but he becomes better. But the storytelling in this is amazing I mean I want to shake the writers and illustrator’s hand for this I love it.And the part about aang’s history is good too.(this is again a review of all the rift pars)
The Old and The New Can Work Out!
I said five stars cause of the great story telling, great character growth. Especially Aang and Toph because their both very different characters. Yet they learn from each other, they still remaining friends and not enemies. It teaches the reader that we need all kinds of kinds people things activities and so forth. This story also makes it clear to the reader why they made The Promise and The search! When I look back at those stories I feelt The Promise was about certain change and looking forward to New things in the future with different race living together. The Search was about certain things staying the same and excepting it. Like Zuko staying firelord and Ozai still being Zuko's biological father. It make sense why they keep mentioning the past and the future in this book! Genius!!! All I can say is that we need more fight scenes and maybe better villains in the next story of Last Airbender but other then that keep up the good work.
Collecting the series
kids are collecting the series and love all the books
Not bad, kinda blah.
Having a hard time remembering what even happened. The Promise laid the foundation of Republic City, The Search gave us Azula's mother, and this...I guess we had something with Toph, but it was all a big blah. It wasn't a bad read, got to see some interesting spirits and see Avatar Yangchen (sp). With Korra having ended, hopefully the next comics will carry a little more weight.
It's awesome!
The newest condition I could ever dream of! You can definitely buy it and NOT regret it! Fantastic!
Shh! Reading
The graphic novel came in good condition, great read
Great!
A well written comic series. I was a bit bummed that they covered basically the same moral (that change is a good thing) as they did with The Promise. Overall I was very pleased with it, however it was not as exciting or as dramatic as The Search. This comic doesn't have as much Lore building as the previous two series do as well, The Search and The Promise are both very important in the Avatar world, however this one is just more of a fun read.

These comics pretty much continue the story after the show ended
These Avatar comic books are most-haves for die hard avatar fans such as myself. These comics pretty much continue the story after the show ended. Although it is not the same as watching the show, it is still much fun to read. I love how the comics stay true to the show's formula and one way they do this is by showing the fans Aang's interactions with his previous incarnations which is something that I deeply love about the show. Specifically in the The Rift, we learn more Avatar Yangchen and it is very much satisfying to see storytelling about avatars rarely mentioned in the show.
Excellent.
The Avatar story continues with another hit brilliant addition. Maybe one day they will become animated. Continually pumping out bangers.
My favorite Avatar in the whole universe
My favorite Avatar in the whole universe!!!! Including Korra, of course. I am excited for the newer ones to come out AND hopefully a continuation for LOK in comics.
Avatar! Avatar!
the resolution was a bit predictable, but as ever, the writing is pithy, the artwork is beautiful, and the story marches on!
Book arrived damaged
My book arrived damaged on the top left corner :( The book content is good but I am hoping to get a replacement copy.
Great conclusion to the min-series
Great conclusion to the min-series. The characters were captured extremely well. I would have given this a higher rating, but the books themselves were a little short considering the price point.
Okay
I didn't like the ending. It did not resolve anything. It feels like the story did not end at all.
Five Stars
Awesome ending to The Rift series and a great supplement to the ATLA series as a whole.

Iron-clad
Another stunning conclusion to an Avatar comic trilogy, and this one focusing on the best character in all of Avatar: Toph. She's the best. There is no arguing. This trilogy focuses on the conflict between heritage/preservation and progress/humanity. Land which was once held sacred by the air benders has, in their absence, become the site of a thriving multi-bender community. But the success of that community is threatened by the return of an old spirit, which must be appeased or destroyed to save the town. The artwork is consistent with the series, and the plot is as well-developed as any episode. And getting to see Toph come into her own as an adult is really amazing (even if she is still, what, 14?). And the little subtle Beifong romance.... Fans get MAYBE a bit of back story to the parentage of Suyin Beifong, given the rather striking resemblance between Satoru and the metal bending matriarch. Of course, we will likely never know the full answer, but that hair.... A must for Avatar fans, and a TORMENT to Beifong worshipers.
Good ending to an interesting story
The rifts between the human world and the spirit world, between Aang and Toph, between Toph and her dad, and between Aang and his previous Avatar incarnations are all resolved in this final issue. Solutions are achieved through a bit of knowledge and a bit of raw determination, creating an exciting blend of pathos and action as everyone does what they think is best. Happily, the confrontations force people to face their issues and find an honest response to the problem rather than holding to dogmatic stances that accomplish nothing. The book ends with a happy, satisfying ending. I liked the overall story though I didn't find it as compelling as the previous two series (The Promise and The Search). Part two of this series lacked a little bit in the humor department but humor made a good comeback in this issue. I'd definitely recommend this to Avatar fans.
What's up with Aang?? (Alert - Spoilers!!!)
Can't believe I'm leaving a bad review for something in the ATLA series. Ok, so a disclaimer - I was not a fan of the Korra series (here comes the flaming) because I very much disliked her total disconnect with the past and her constant rejection of advice of good people who cared about her in favor of believing in yourself (there were plenty of bad dudes who believed in themselves and thought they were right, but no clear distinction was made besides "I'm the Avatar who in a previous life got along with spirits and got an important one to bond with me, so I must be right") and the theme of blindly accepting every change that showed up with only minimal analysis of the pros and cons, but that's another review... SPOILERS AHEAD... (But then again this'll likely be confusing if you haven't read it yet as it's mainly a rant...) But I've always loved Aang from the very beginning. He has wisdom, he is fun, for all his power he is humble, he got stuff done while being merciful... I was starting to be disappointed in him when he broke off his relationship with Roku... In "The Rift," he does fix this (thank heavens) and reiterates the point that you are supposed to learn from the past, both the successes and failures, and that the advice of the past won't necessarily be the best, but that doesn't mean you should discount all of it. But then he kills a spirit. AANG, the guy who broke off his relationship with Roku because he was tired of hearing his advice to take out people, KILLS A SPIRIT!!! And Aang wasn't even a little upset at Toph afterwards for being a stubborn know it all whose personal issues stopped Aang from an attempt to repair the situation (the town was going to collapse anyway because of the ironworks underneath due to the humans' own stupidity) so no one would get hurt? Yes, people working together was the future, but in a polluting industrial setting? And speaking of which, they never addressed the polluted river! Ok, the ironworks guy was leaving, but they never took responsibility as a company for what they did as a whole... No one brought it up, and there was no accountability whatsoever. And to go further, the beautiful statue lady spirit who protected those shores for years, Tienhai, was never upset about it either?! She even called the place "stagnant!" Really? Anyone halfway interested in ecology does not call a healthy ecology "stagnant!!!" Environments change and mature, both the landscapes and the life on it... What the heck! It seems in an effort to tie together the Korra and ATLA storylines and themes, the story really goes south. First of all, this has all become *way* too comfortable with business/industry and rapid change at the expense of the environment and learning from the past. When Aang clearly sees the consequences of this technology rushed too fast and not thought through completely is tending towards more destruction (the pollution and geological instability), he lets Toph, who is too stubborn and emotional to see this, stop him from doing his job and bringing balance. No one learns a single darned thing from the downed spirit who does have a point - the humans are making a mess of things. They're ruining their own drinking water and their town is now unstable risking further cave ins. If they would have thought things through just a little, they might see that it's going to be very bad for themselves too. Hello... We're all connected??! Yeah, I guess not. They tried to bow to Confucius in showing that traditions, even boring sounding ones, are usually attempts at getting people to remember important things, and I appreciated that. But even when the reason for the tradition was explained, it didn't change what would happen much. If Aang never found out about the source of the tradition or the angry spirit ahead of time, they would have fought him to defend the town anyway. Yes, they rejuvenated the tradition, but again... Did they do anything to rejuvenate the river (like in ATLA season 3, The Painted Lady)? No. Industry can be done cleanly. This was alluded to in the end. But there's no attempt to make it happen. So why bother rejuvenating the tradition? They missed the whole point of the first one!!! Sure it's great that they're trying to be friendly with the spirits. Never mind that the angry spirit was angry for a reason. He's been silenced, so it doesn't matter anymore. Sorry for the rant. Just venting my frustrations with this because I am a huge fan of ATLA. I'll probably come up with more reasons this irks me if I sit here longer. Basically, in their attempts to portray the intricacies and difficulties of progress, it's sloppily done. Loose ends abound. And besides Toph's and the cabbage guy's personal stories being advanced, the story is a bit bland. There were missed opportunities... The rousing speech by Toph's dad at the end could have included fixing past mistakes (cleaning up the dang environment if only for your own safety and happiness, making sure the town doesn't collapse on itself...) to improve the course of the future. Somestimes, you really do have to backpedal a little when you've taken a wrong path in order to go forward. Or consider that there were other paths of progress we never bothered to take. They tried to state this, sorta, but it's all talk. The story does not walk the walk with the points they supposedly try to make. Especially when today we have real world problems just like this (have you heard of the ongoing Bayou Corne disaster in Louisiana?) we need to give better examples to our children. Being an engineer, I am no enemy to science, progress, and yes change, but it must be done responsibly. I believe you stand on the shoulders of giants, and we are responsible for the future we leave to those who stand on our shoulders. Yes, my distaste for this installment of the ATLA story likely stems from turning it to echo the Korra series. I didn't care for that series, and I don't care for this either. (So if you liked the Korra series, maybe you'll like this.) In the end stuff changes, and we are just supposed to go along with what the people are doing as long as there's a silver lining to it and hope for everything turning out ok (according to the statue lady) instead of doing what we can to make that change the best we can. Aang has had to grapple with multiple changes that occurred due to the disappearance of the Air Nation, but this installment to his story just lets everything off the hook way too easily.
:))))
I love this book!! A great experience reading the end of the Rift series. Looking forward for more comics ATLA , and I want the paperback comics better.
