As always I am left in awe!
The worst part about this series is how it always leaves me without words. After reading such an amazing tale of Myne and company with such descriptive language, metaphors out the wazoo, and a tone that seems to calm me to no end I honestly feel like there are no words to properly describe just how amazing this book is. If you are looking for something to read that is light hearted at times and heart wrenching when it needs to be, something that may warm you soul, and something that will make you laugh yourself off your chair this is the series for you, stop reading this review and start reading Ascendance of a Bookworm!
That this is a story about the most unique character I've ever encountered
Pure reading enjoyment. The anime version is outstanding as well. Background: I'm 65 years old and an anime fanboy (otaku). My significant other is also 65 and actively HATES anime... Except Ascendance of a Bookworm. She not only binge-watched all the ENglish dub episodes, but bingewatched the English subtitled episodes as well, rather than waiting for the dubbed versions to come out. Since she is dyslexic and reading subtitles exhausts her, I found this rather remarkable. Even more remarkable is that she *devoured* (that's a pun related to the story) the first 4 English translations of the light novels and is plowing through the 5th every night. Keep in mind that she actively hates anime, and children's books are not her usual reading material, but she *needs* to know what happens next with the life story of Myne. I'm so impressed by how impressed she is by the books and anime, that I've started an email campaign to convince as many mainstream reviewers as possible to review the books and anime. If you like anime, you may find Bookworm too slow moving and just not violent enough. If you actively hate anime, you may find that you love the story. It's being marketed to the wrong crowd.
The quite heroine, who sees not her worth.
Love they way author writes a scene so that the heroine thinks she messed up, and everyone else knows she did what was necessary to fix a situation. Her influence on the lives of those who know her continues to spread in ever-growing waves with a net effect of increasing her responsibilities dramatically while increasing her goal, incrementally. Spoiler Now I am not usually a fan a stories in which character developed without corresponding growth of wealth, power, or skills, but while she is now a mage, she learns no spells, she is a merchant with greater increase in financial debits than credits, but we can see a looming, burgeoning gross worth growth that draws (me At least) forward. That said, More MAGIC Please!!
I like this one even better
Main character takes a more active role in the lives of the poorer folks around her. It's a good change of pace although we don't see main character do as much "inventing" as she did in previous books.
Myne's next step in the world
Part 2 volume 1 starts with Myne's first steps into the alien world of the temple and the nobles. She already had trouble adjusting to the life of a commoner, stepping into one as a noble of sorts is even harder. As in earlier books, it shines in its world building and highlighting the different culture. It is a good change of pace to the usual isekai genre. The setting and its people feel believable to me. The downside is some of Myne's personality traits. Still, a great book and looking forward to the next part.
Understanding comes with knowledge
Knowledge comes from experience. This book has a wide watery of experiences for all those involved. I like the happier ending of families. But still sad that the orphans know nothing of families. Only time will tell. So many ideas fly through my head after reading. I can see so many opportunities and learn more in each aspect of the story. Keep up the great story
Just keeps getting better and better!
I've been blitzing through these books so fast my husband asked if i was possed by Myne lol. This one especially i couldn't put down. Seeing the contrast of the nobles imo evil views and practices towards the orphanage and Mynes decisions regarding it were soo good. I felt so strongly for her attendants and the orphans. Also lutz's story and growth in this book were phenomenal.
Great read! Don’t miss out!
Don’t pass up this story! Once you pick it up, you will never want to put it down. Definitely one of my favorites.
Very solid start to the second part
It's almost impossible to recognize the Myne from this book as the one from the first book. Also, an important Chekhov's gun finally went off, and I was delighted to see how well it was handled.
Love it
I love how logically the author explain things that different people might have different interpretations to each other. Not everyone will have the same thought processes so communication is always key. Also the mini lessons on the history of the written word is also kept short and easy to understand.

Holy Cats! That was good!
I love the humor and storytelling that Kazuki-Sensei's put into this volume. I really can't wait to she where this little girl and her obsession with books takes her.
Comfy but not afraid of getting dark
This new arc of the story involving the church gets into some pretty disturbing territory. However, Myne continues to be a protagonist who it's easy to root for. It's refreshing to read a novel where the protagonist isn't overpowered and where they aren't always right all the time.
Wonderful!
What a wonderful and vibrant story. I love all of the characters and how the story develops around them! I cant wait for the next volume!
Continues to be a great series 10/10
Still my favourite light novel series, each volume just keeps getting better and better
Great!
Lots of new characters and situations introduced for Myne.
This is a great series
This is a great series. I’m enjoying this series more and more with new volume. I can’t wait for the next one to come out.
Slice of Life
The book goes into an almost scary level of detail of a person going to a truly medieval society. The comforts we take for granted are sharply contrasted in this.
Good Read
Another amazing book in the series. It’s a great read for anyone above the age of 8. It’s way to read and the plot is simple to follow. A good way to get children into reading books.
"excited Mine noices"
Calling all book lovers! Calling all book lovers! We have perfection here people! This book series is a love letter to all of us bookworms
What will happen next
I can't wait to see what this girl gets herself into next time. My only major complaint is that the book leaves off on a cliffhanger.
My new all time favorite light novel
A wonderful book, I would 100% recommend this series to everyone
Continues its heartwarming tale
This story is wonderfully charming even after a bit of a dark twist. Can't wait for the next book to be translated!
