5 Minutes with Jesus: Quiet Time for Your Soul

I've never been great at taking time out of my day to spend, but her five minute devotionals have really hit home and helped me intentionally take time out of my day to focus on God. There are so many things keeping us incredibly busy in our lives. But the mind and soul need a rest just like the body does. The authors have created short five minute devotionals to give our souls that rest they are craving. Each devotional starts with a little story that is then tied together with a spiritual thought. They sum up their thoughts with a quote and then give some scripture verses so the reader can spend time (5 min) in God's word. First, the cover is beautiful and the designs have spread this look through out the book. Loved it. I've read books by Ms. Walsh before and so knew I would enjoy this devotional. There is humor, entertaining stories and antidotes, and lots of thoughtful messages that brought me closer to God. I enjoyed the extra scripture verses that were at the end of each chapter. This is a great book for those quiet moments when you don't have a lot of time or are traveling and don't want to carry all of your study things with you. It would also make an excellent gift. 5 Minutes With Jesus: Quiet Time for Your Soul by Shelia Walsh and Sherri Gragg is a breath of fresh air. This little book contains wisdom, insights, and a heartfelt concern for sisters in Christ. The days are busy and can often be hectic. But even five minutes of time turned to our Lord God can give us just the reminder we need of his love. The powerful words give readers a gentle push to fall on His promises instead of trying to make it on our own. Quiet times and a rest is something I have to make sure to fit into my day. If I don't, I am left weary with very little of myself to give back to others. I appreciate this devotional book because sometimes as a mom of three I don't often have more than five minutes to myself. There's the dishes that need washing, the never ending laundry to do, and all the extra responsibilities that come with being a mother, wife, teacher, and friend. I feel that Shelia totally gets this and offers a wonderful way to seek God even if only a little bit of rest for your soul. This book is best to read in the morning, in my opinion. Starting the day out of the right foot can really impact the day. Each devotional features a title, a short entry, a takeaway, and several Bible scriptures that correspond to what is read. The devotions show the heart of the author. She's open, honest, and light-hearted. Some days you'll laugh and others you may cry. But throughout all the devotions you'll feel better. You'll be blessed is so many ways by taking from the truths and scripture within the pages of this book. The colorway of the book is a grayish blue on white. It doesn't strain the eyes to read it. I would have preferred an attached ribbon place marker but alas one is not there. You'll need to use your own bookmark to keep the place. The size of this book is small and makes it a good choice to bring along in a purse, bag, or tote. I feel it's a nice book to use and pass along. It would make a nice gift for a lady of any age. It's worth noting it's available in hardcover and digital format. Pricing is under ten dollars. The 5 Minutes with Jesus series from Sheila Walsh seems like it's written to fix the fact that we just don't have the time. I am new to the series and Quite Time for Your Soul is a new book for me. The format is wonderful as there is a small devotional reading with moment from Walsh's life that work up towards a small less and teaching. She them relates them to a part of scripture that can help illustrate her point behind her personal story. At the end of the small devotional she has listed a few scriptures that you can read to spend your 5 minutes with Jesus. When she says 5 minutes she truly means it. The devotionals only too a few minutes and then reading the scriptures add a couple of extra minutes. I liked the idea of having this small book to drop in my purse and read on the go, but I don't think this would be a great book for in-depth study, obviously. I think this has a lot of potential in that you could use her story and the final verses to help spark a journal entry or you could cross reference the verses for some more in depth study. I don't think this book is good for someone who wants to really dig deep into God's word and connect with Him that way. Overall, this was an ok book. Would I probably get the others in the series, no, but it's nice for a quick devotional on the go. As a person with chronic illnesses, this devotional is perfect for my life. It fits in with whatever kind of day I am having. This is a devotional I can use in my quiet time with Jesus, because it is just five minutes. While each devotional is only five or so minutes, it is packed with much truth. Each day, Sheila and Sherri meet with us and share heartfelt truths. After this time of devotion, we met with a few Scriptures to help carry us through our day. These Scriptures share with us God's truth about what we are learning. Truths we can hold onto. Truths that remind us God is greater. Life changing truths, that we can build our lives upon. As the authors share with us in the introduction, our lives need a pause button. We need just a few minutes to catch our breath. Our time with Jesus is that time to breathe in and be given the strength to carry on. "God loves you. He never intended for you to live a frenzied, exhausting life. . . Jesus longs to give you the gift of rest, and it can begin with five minutes a day (p. 4-5)." Let us come to meet Jesus. Maybe we don't have much to give. Jesus Christ, the Living God, has much to give us. He wants to pour into our spirits and help us in our daily lives. Even if you only have five minutes, this is more than enough time for you to meet with our Lord Jesus and find refreshment for your soul. I love this devotional, and look forward to the many treasures I will find in it. I absolutely recommend this devotional! This book of short stories are very nice motivational affirmations for the beginning and ending of your day. We do not know what the day will bring from day to day so it’s nice to read of God’s amazing love for us before we get the day started and again before we close our eyes!

What's to dislike? I love Sheila Walsh. She doesn't preach to you; she shares from her heart. She is real. Love it

I love Shiela Walsh and she does not disappoint with this one! An awesome devotional that I highly recommend.

Sheila Walsh's books have really changed my devotional life. I've never been great at taking time out of my day to spend, but her five minute devotionals have really hit home and helped me intentionally take time out of my day to focus on God. I work in film and our days often run 12-16 hours long; the quick, straight to the point entries help stop my day even if it's only for 5 days to focus on God. She really hits on some modern day issues today with our go-go-go lifestyles today and intentionally taking time to just stop and be still.

I really enjoy reading Sheila's series of 5 Minutes with Jesus and look forward to the release of each new book. This one did not disappoint. The book pulls you into her life and gives you a short but inspiring grasp of how Jesus's love has touched her. She writes for all who need a break away from this busy world and remind ourselves that we are loved by our Lord and how we can connect with him. I start my day with her books. I recommend this for anyone who needs this and likes a bit of humor at times along with thoughtful words of wisdom.

I have several daily devotion books that I use each day. This is one of my favorites because she reminds me very much of my mother and the things she had to say, to keep me grounded for the day. I truly like how she has a great story to tie the subject of the day in, that is something I can think about through out the day!

I know Ms. Walsh books though l will confess this is my second book of her. This book will be good for a working woman or busy housewife who wants some part of the Bible. This book is short and good and it make it good to start the day.

Love all 3 books I have in this 5 Minutes With Jesus series. Particularly the scripture verses which can take you deeper. Sheila Walsh has proven to me over and over in all her writings and books, to be sensitive as a writer and offer great wisdom in a thoughtful style.

Excellent way to meditate, relax and start the day right or take a quiet break in the middle of a hectic day.

This is a fabulous devotional. I read a chapter every morning to feel the love of God, but you may wish to read it in larger portions. The author is authentic, down to earth, wise and full of love to share. Someday I will probably read it again.

God speaks to us in many ways - a comment from others, a well-timed verse during Bible reading, a small voice inside us, the day’s devotional reading. God spoke to me through devotionals contained here so many times it brought me to tears.

This is such a great daily read. I couldn’t believe when I came to the end and am looking for the next. Each day shares a simple truth, and is supported by great scripture verses. Truly makes my day!

Such a delightful, encouraging and rich devotional. It gives me peace and courage to start the day because it points me closer to Jesus.
