Frustrating
The cut and paste letters are in same position on both sides of the page. Therefore you have to choose for which word to solve the question "cut and paste the letters of the sight word". It causes significant frustration for both the chld and parent. It would have been so easy to print those letters on different location on each side of the page.
K-2 Teachers & Homeschooling Parents
As a 15+ years of experience teaching K-2 and a mom who homeschooled my youngest, this is an ecellent resource for children learning sight words. I used this book to supplement my now first grader's learning to recognize high frequency words when he was 3 years old. We used it regularly when he was 3 years old. He was an early reader. I used resources such as this one that made learning fun and kinesthetic. Yes, you will have to help your child form and write the sentences. But, heeelllllo! This is for the reviewers who said they did not think the sentences were appropriate: ALL children learning to read and spell high frequency words need lots of support in this area. But you don't withhold teaching your child/student how to write sentences just because they cannot write them on their own yet! And for the MANY reviewers who complained about the fact that they should not have made the pages back to back to where you have to copy each sheet in order for the child to be able to cut the words, uhm please read the description "REPRODUCIBLES". That means that you make a copy. Also, fyi, most of these Scholastic books are marketed or made for classroom teachers so the assumption is that teachers will incorporate them into their lessons for an entire classroom-so, copies are expected. One more thing, if they were not back to back, then this workbook would be TWICE the price. I like that I was able to buy it for under $12. One more thing, a few people stated that it was boring for their students. I agree that some students may get bored. But I found , as a classroom teacher, it was an Excellent homework resource for my first graders. Because it was always the same format, after a month or so, my students were able to do it independently at home with the exception of the sentence which still required some parent support. However, my on grade level and above grade level students were able to write their own sentences independently by about a month or so. One really neat bonus, as a classroom teacher, is that it involved my students' parents in teaching their child how to form sentences, thereby students learned the concept of a sentence, a period and how sentences start with capital letters in conjunction with learning how to spell and write HF words in an accelerated pace. Highly Recommend this resource to supplement your instruction.
Just what I need
I have a 6 year old that just finished kindergarten and going into 1st grade next school year. I felt like a little extra practice over the summer would help her be more prepared. This is a really good book to help them practice their handwriting skills. I feel like it’s well written and worth the money. It has just enough simple stuff but more advanced stuff to keep your kid engaged for months possibly even a few years. It’s 112 pages long so enough for a whole summer- even a school year- if you do a little at a time.
these are amazing practice books
So many reviews knocked this book due to the "cutting and pasting" error. There is definitely an error but otherwise, these are amazing practice books. I ended up scanning in all the pages to my computer and printed half of them. Then I printed the other half upside down--therefore getting rid of the error. I homeschool so I scan in all workbook pages. Therefore, printing half of them out upside down was not a big deal to me, especially since I will be using this book for multiple children.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
My daughter is 3 and I wanted to purchase a sight word book that will complement our lessons. This book is such a waste of time. I could've got the similar material for free on pinterest. I thought this book will give a few worksheets for each sightword but it DOES NOT. It's only 1 page per sight word which doesn't give enough material to ensure your child has mastered the word. For $9 this should've had some dot and color in games to teach through repetition. Go online parents and print out different worksheets for each word I would say at least 8 pages. Staple them together read a sight book with the sight word of the week and save yourself money and time. This strategy will be more affective and will engage your child more then this. My daughter hated this book because it was all writing, no color ins, or word finds... BORING!
Perfect as a supplemental aid for Sight Words!
This was exactly what I was expecting. I'm a Pre-K teacher who works with 4 year-olds. For many of them, this is their first school experience. This book is a wonderful tool. It covers the list of Sight Words that we are supposed to learn in class over the course of the year, so I pick three a week and send them home one a night as homework. The kids love them and they've retained all of the words that we've learned so far. This is not meant to be used as the ONLY method that you use to teach these words, but rather as a supplemental. When used in that sense, this book has proved itself to be a very valuable resource!
One fatal flaw
This is a great book, my 5 year old is enjoying it, however, it has one fatal flaw. The directions say to cut out the letters at the bottom of the page and glue them into the correct spaces to complete the sentence. As you can see in my attached pictures, when you cut out the letters on one side, they cut out the letters on the back side of the page. You glue them down, so there is no way to re-use them for both pages. So, only on every other page will the glue portion of the directions be completeable. This may not be a huge issue, but clearly it could have been avoided had they not centered the cut out letters at the bottom of the page.
The book is great for kids
The book is great for kids, but there is a flaw in how it was built. The kids are supposed to cut the letters out at the bottom of the page; however, the pages are double sided. This means that you have to copy each page of the workbook before your child can cut out the letters or you will ruin the next lesson.
Some flaws, but still good practice for a soon-to-be first grader.
I bought this book for my soon-to-be first grader to practice reading/writing skills over the summer. I like how each page focuses on just one word, however I agree with other reviewers that the 'write your own sentence' portion at the bottom is a little silly if they are still learning simple sight words! Instead of creating a new sentence I just have her copy the one provided (in which she has to fill in the missing word). That still gives her the practice she needs. I also have her skip the cut-and-paste portion as the pages are double sided (so by cutting out one side, you ruin the activity on the other) and she can get that practice elsewhere. Complaints aside, this is a nice quality book with approximately one hundred sight words. I would buy it again. For reference I paid $8.72 for it in June 2018.
It’s illiterate, but easy to use.
The book is good for writing sentences, and tracing, but they didn’t put much care/thought into it. Pros: 1. lay out is easy to follow. 2. The book has 3-4 letter words. Cons: 1. The book says write the word on some pages but it’s a letter. This might sound picky, but Thats not good for young learning minds. The directions should be accurate. It was just laziness by the editor/publisher to not change phrase from word to letter. It’s a learning book. 2. The book tells the child to cut out the letter at the bottom of the page and paste it in the missing square to complete the sentence. BUT! On the second page, you end up cutting out the letter of the next page, so the next activity is incomplete. Example shown in pictures/video.

Poor Execution
I purchased two sight word workbooks for my son. This workbook is ok but highly repetitive and unengaging, as the same activities are conducted over and over again (trace, write, cut & paste, and write a sentence). I probably would have given this product 3-stars except for the fact the cut & paste words are on the same side of each page; in short, when you cut the letters from Page 1 of the workbook it cuts out the letters from Page 2, making the cut & paste activity on Page 2 useless...POOR EXECUTION! I would highly recommend purchasing the "My Sight Words Workbook: 101 High-Frequency Words Plus Games & Activities!" This workbook has different activities for kids, such as coloring, word search, etc. It is much more engaging and for the cut & paste activity, the words are staggard on each page.
Too advanced for preschool. Bad execution of setup.
Okay let me start off with my background. I am a current stay at home Mom and a former Special Education Teacher. My degrees are in both Childhood and Special Education 1-6. I bought this book for my 3 turning 4 year old to prep her for Pre-K next year since she missed the cutoff this year. Positives: I like the skills that are being reviewed in this book. Each page offers a variety of skills; tracing, sight word recognition, cutting and pasting, sentence building and writing. Negatives: 1.The skills are WAY more advanced than preschool level. No preschooler can write their own sentences; unless they are gifted. Therefore rendering some of the activities useless. 2. The cutting activity is at the bottom of the page. The pages are TWO SIDED. Therefor if you do the cutting activity on one side, you ruin it for the other side. So I combatted this by making copies. The amount I spent on copies totaled more than what I paid for the book. Very annoying. Now, granted no one made me do this, but I just felt the cutting and pasting activity was one of the age appropriate skills in this book that I really wanted my daughter to be able to utilize. Seeing as some of the other stuff is too advanced, I didn’t want to have yet something else be wasted. Would I buy this book again? No probably not. Too much is wasted on top of the photocopying expense.
Very helpful for your sight word learner
This book was so helpful for my kindergartener. We worked on the words he had for the week and it helped with spelling and word recognition. It also had fun activities for him to do, his favorite being the word search.
Read the one star reviews before buying!
Like the other reviewers said, each page has cut-out letters at the bottom for one of the activities (cut and paste the letters of the sight word). However, when you cut these letters out, it ruins the letters on the next page! The book has double-sided pages, and the cut out letters are placed in the same spot. I thought a way around this was to cut but NOT paste, so that the back side of the letters could be used for the next page. However, the cut lines of the letters on side A of the page do not match up with the cut lines on side B. Therefore, the letters on side B are cut in half! You really can only do half the pages in the workbook unless you don't have your child do the cut and paste activities. It's a shame they didn't design the side A letters to be printed in a different location at the bottom of the page than the side B letters. Bad design!
One pretty big issue!
This workbook is pretty awesome except for one pretty big issue. At the bottom of each page is a word for your child to cut out each letter - they are then supposed to glue the letters into place on that page. Well the issue is that the words are in the same spot on each page, so when your child cuts out the word on page 10 they are also cutting out the word on page 11... ???? Which then when they go to glue the first word onto the page, they don't then have the next page's word to use! I think this could have easily been avoided if they would have just scattered the words at the bottom of the pages - page tens word on the right at the bottom of the page and page elevens word on the left of the page - common sense, right? Anyhow, that is the only issue I have found with this book right away.
Defective Book
I would say this is a good book however the word of the day you cut Out at bottom of page is in the same place as the next word you cut out. You have to glue them on page and you would never be able to glue word on every other page each time. I called Scholastic and since I didn’t order from them they acted like they didn’t care! They said just return it to amazon. I asked to have someone call me as this must have printed in all their books like this and no one did! I love their books but not this one and not happy no one called me.
A nice size workbook with many great words.
All the sightword pages have similar formatting with sentences and small picture. It is in black and white so there is no color to distract from the word itself. I find that important. I like that the front came with a parent guide. There is word cards you can cut out at the bottom of each page. I haven't used that yet but do look forward to it. There is 2 pages in back you can tear out and make copies of for more writing if you like. A very helpful learning tool. The only thing I did not like about this workbook, is that I would have like to have seen it started off with easier sight words in the beginning. Things like and, the, an, was, you, me. It goes right into larger ones which hasn't been as helpful for my beginner.
POORLY DESIGNED
There is only one page of activities per word. Basically, you get to write the word 3 different times and then you cut out the letters at the bottom of the page to glue into boxes to spell out the word. The catch with that is when you cut out the letters on the front side of pg. 1, you are taking the letters from the back side of the page, pg. 2. So you don't get to do that step on every other page, leaving you with just writing the word 3 times and then moving on to another word. It's hardly a way to memorize sight words, but more about handwriting skills. I've added a photo for an example of the cut letters. You can see that the back side of the letter I was cutting out has the letter for the next page that I went be able to glue on, because it is already glued to the first page.
Worthless
Sight words: well I had thought that this would be a helpful tool for my homeschooled girl to learn sight words, but apparently the sight words book was “for babies”; according to my home schooled second grader. I’ve been working with my daughter with her writing and reading since she had started home schooling. Yes there is a lot of cutting and pasting, but make sure you have a good scanner to scan the pages before your child starts cutting and pasting from the double sided pages. If you work with your child in writing, reading ; this book is not for you. I gave it one star for the above reasons. I will be trading this book in.
Can only complete every other lesson due to layout error!
Look closely at the pictures, at the bottom of the pages. Whoever planned the page layouts must have been on a hangover. You can only complete the exercises for one side of wach page because the cut and paste letters for the next page are directly on the back of the cut outs for the first page. Example: the lesson for "A", you cut out the "a" and the "n" for your next lesson "And" is on the back of the "a" you just cut out and therefore now glued down, unseen to the "A" page! Nobodu apparently thought to offset the cut out letters on the back side of the pages. Yes, they are all this way. Scholastic is usually better quality than this.
No perforations.
I think this book is very nice and would love to be able to use it as it is advertised. But saying something is "reproducible" to me means it might have perforations or be loose leaf style for easy handling. This workbook is not only unperforated, the cut and paste directions would actually ruin the next page so it is not able to be completed without making single page copies first. It's too bad because I just don't have time to make manual copies of this entire book just to be able to have my kids cut and paste. Bad design is this book's Achilles Heel.
1 Issue: it’s printed front and back
I deducted a star because the pages are printed front and back. If you look at the picture I have included, the last task for each word is to cut and paste, BUT all the words are located at the same spot on the bottom which makes it impossible to complete each page. And although that is not a huge issue, it is worth loosing a star in my opinion. Thankfully I had already intended on not writing in the book but just making copies for my kids to do. An easy fix to that issue would be to: a) write in the boxes instead of cutting and pasting. b) make your own cut outs using other paper. or c) make copies of each page as you do them so the child can utilize the cut/paste practice
Great book with one annoying flaw. I’m still very happy I bought it!
I really like this book for my 5 year old going into L next school year. She was in Pre-K this year until the quarantine hit, and I ordered this book to help us with building her reading skills while “homeschooling.” This book does have one silly, fatal flaw, which others have mentioned: the letters to cut out at the bottom of each page overlap. So weird. We overcame that by just making my own boxed words she had to cut out and paste on the page. Other than that I found it to be a valuable book n our repertoire, and like that it’s the same format for every page. Once she got the format, she was able to do this independently.
Pretty good book, not perfect
Everyone keeps complaining of a "fatal flaw" for the book with putting the sight words to cut out at the bottom, on the same page.....it doesnt matter because the words are not ontop of each other on the bottom page. They are on opposite sides with plenty of space to cut them out without ruining the other side of the page. What I dont like about the book is that it's in black and white, isnt repetitive for memorization, and has no rhyme or reason for the words they pick...they arent kindergarten sight words need to know, they are just random words.
Helping my daughter learn to read
This book is now a staple for our homeschooling. The only problem is that all the cut outs at the bottom are double sided, so if you cut the letters out for one day, you don’t have letters for the next day because they were on the flip side of the first day. Pretty big design flaw that could have been easily solved by off-setting the cut outs. I make my own but that was one of the features I bought the book for so it’s a little annoying.
One Major Flaw
I got this workbook for my early reader who is struggling and uninterested. It has good activities, but one major flaw. On each page you are supposed to cut out the letter as the bottom and glue them into the correct boxes. Unfortunately the letters for the next pages word is on the reverse, so you can only do that activity for every other page. Had they staggered the letters on the bottom of the pages it would be fine, but there's no way to make this work. Since it's one of the main activities, it's very unfortunate.
can not use as intended. Very disappointed. Not worth the money
I wish I had returned this because the cutout word that is to be glued on the pages are back-to back. For example, on page 1, when you cut out the word to be glued onto the corresponding blank space on page 1, you also are cutting out the word for page 2 (the next lesson) which is printed exactly behind the word for the preceding page. Therefore, in order to use this workbook as intended, you would need to photocopy every-other page so that you could cut-out and paste that page's word.
A Teacher Must!
I teach preschool and let me tell you that the preschool curriculum is pretty rigorous! According to the curriculum my district uses the students should be introduced to 19 high frequency words. These worksheets give students the opportunity to practice and reinforce those words. There are also color words in his workbook so I think when I introduce and review colors I will have them do the worksheet so they get used to seeing words, making the letter formation, and writing from left to right. The worksheet has the word at the bottom of he page, students are supposed to cut out he letters and glue them at an area in the center of the worksheet. I like this feature because sometimes the kids get tired of just writing the cutting and gluing make it tactile which hopefully reinforces to word. The worksheet pages are not quite 81/2 by 11 but I enlarge them slightly.
not well thought out
Horrible. I initially liked how there was a cut and paste portion to the lessons. Until I realized that the items to be cut out are in the same spot on each page. Meaning - you can only do that portion of the lesson on page 1, or page 2. Not both, because once finished with page 1 you've botched what you need for page 2's cut and paste project. What a waste of money, and what an over-priced book! We much prefer "100 Words Kids Need to Read by 1st Grade."
Good workbook but a big error on every page.
Overall Good workbook - except for one error on every page by the creator/publisher ... every page has the task where letters are to be cut out and pasted to the squares ... all the letters to be cut are centered at the bottom of each page therefore you will only be able to complete this exercise on one of the pages, because on the flip side, the letters to be cut are in the EXACT same spot making it impossible to do if you already cut them out for the other side.
Perfect sight word worksheets.
These worksheets are the perfect tool for practice using the top 100 Dolch (sight words) list. They are easy for your child to use and reproducible for additional practice. The child I have been working with enjoys using them and they give her a perfect sense of achievement each time she completes another one. You can't say more than that about this product; it's great.
Should have read the negative reviews...
The fact that they put the cut and paste letters at the exact same spot on each page is completely idiotic and ruins 50% of those activies. I guess the assumption is that copies would be made of each worksheet but seriously?? How hard would it have been to off center them or something? Also if the first activities on the page are tracing and copying simple sight words, what would make you think that same child is now, at the bottom of the page, capable of writing out a whole sentance of their own creation? I've been having my son make up a sentance and then I write it on the first line for him to copy on the second line... but like 🤷♀️ Overall it feels like it was poorly done.
Enjoyable and effective
Used this for my child who is going into 2nd grade but not reading well. We put the words onto our own flashcards to review. By writing each word several times while saying it, cutting out the letters and arranging them and gluing them into each word, making up a sentence with the word and review with our homemade flash cards, my child was able to learn over 80 site words very well. It's affordable, simple and she likes doing the pages.
Overall good
I like the book. But my only complaint is they didn’t move the cut out words for each page front and back so my daughter can’t cut out the letters for the back page we have to pick which page we want to cut out. Other than that I had been good for keeping her on track for summer!
Perfect for my kindergarten class
I have been using this book along with the scholastic sight word poetry book for almost a year, with my kindergarten class. They enjoy completing the worksheets and mostly that they get to cut and paste the words. I love that there’s room for them to write their own sentences. What I would change about it, would be to scramble the sight word that they cut instead of having it in the right order. That way it would be a little more challenging. Also since I use it with the poetry book, sometimes I can’t find the same sight words that the poems have. It makes it a good companion for the poetry book.
Cut and paste task is poorly designed
I was so excited to begin the book with my daughter as it combined both sight words and cutting and pasting. Unfortunately, the cut and paste task is poorly designed. The words are in the same location on both front and back of the pages. If you cut one, you cut both and will not be able to complete the other side cut and paste part.
Sight Word practice pages with issue
The workbook is just what I was looking for. There's one problem with the way they did this workbook! The letters at the bottom that the child is supposed to cut out overlaps with the back page. So if you cut out & paste one side, you can't cut and paste on the backside. Pretty bad planning from Scholastic. Disappointing mistake. Plus the pages are not perforated for tearing out.
From excellent to ok
I purchased this book over others for what seemed like the utility of exercises offered. Sight words, handwriting, cutting, pasting among others skills are offered. But at the bottom if each page where a sight word is cut our to paste also cuts out the other side of the worksheet making it useless. If you care to go to the trouble of making a copy which I do not. The book itself is really great and progresses nicely and I'm really a big fan but the cut out portion is beyond foolish design.
Nice practice
Good to work with little kids but when you do the cut out and paste letters you can only use one side and all the sheets are two sided. Still I like the fact that this workbook has writing practice available inside of it and pictures to go along with the words. Visualization is very important for children. This is one of the resources I'm using during the summer, hoping that my six year old doesn't forget everything before he goes back to school.
Works great for kindergartner
My kindergartner loves this book. we make up silly sentences and it really helps his sight words. It works on writing and has a cut and paste for the words which helps him get excited. Only reason I did 4 stars was because the cut and paste aren't alternation in location and all centered so you have to pick and choose. No biggie I just typed up letters and printed them and cut them out. Problem solved.
I shouldn’t have to spend so much effort on correcting a quality control issue.
If I buy something, I expect it to be fully usable as is. I should not have to spend the time or money on scanning pages and using up paper and ink like a just so the book is functional (as another reviewer recommended). The cut and paste issue is a real annoyance. We still use the book, but now my daughter has to make her own cut and paste letters to complete one side of each activity page. I wouldn’t recommend.
They didn't think this one out completely....
This book is a great concept - my daughter was especially excited about the cut & paste letter to spell the word that is featured on the page - they all love cutting and pasting... but they designed the book so the word on the front and back of the page have the letters to cut out back to back. So you're only able to do one side of each page because you've cut through the other pages letters already. And because there are other letters from the other side of the page on the back of these letters she gets confused if she's cut it right, or where these random letters go that belong to the other page. So that part is useless. Wondering if they never tested this?
Letters for cut out are back to back.
At the bottom of the pages you are supposed to cut out the letters for your kids to paste. The problem is that there are other letters on the back of it. So you can only past half the words since they are back to back. I guess you could copy each page but what a waste. They should have put the letters not back to back.
Modify directions and you're golden
I am a preschool teacher. Use this book only if your child already knows how to write letters. Do not have them cut and paste the letters at the bottom - have them write in the letters in the boxes. And then have them copy the sentence into the "write your own sentence" box. This is a good resource if you don't know how to introduce sight words, but please do not use this as an introductory book for preschoolers who have no experience with writing yet.
Great workbook!
Great learning book for kids. My son sits down and actually enjoys learning this stuff! Would recommend!
Excellent summer review material
Great way to review the most common words! Yes the cut outs could have been printed off-set. More importantly, these sheets are very similar to those used in my son’s class and exactly what I was looking for to continue working on his sight words this summer.
Perfect workbook for the beginner
My 6 yr old granddaughter was so happy with this workbook. She zipped through it and asked for another one so she could start again - my suggestion would be to make a copy of the pages and then once through with the book, bring out the copies so the little ones can go through them again as a review.
Bad design
Is scholastic even paying attention? It says to cut out the letters at the bottom of each page- but the pages are double sided and the letters are in the center of each page. If you do one side, the letter for the other side are now gone. It could not be that difficult to stagger them.
Almost perfect..
A nice book to have kids learn their sight words. With different ways & steps to writing the words. It’s better than writing a words 30 times, which my little ones gets tired of doing. Things I wish they would’ve considered: there isn’t an easy way to rip the pages out, and the cut out words at the bottom of the pages (which I loved) overlaps with the cut out word on the back side! So if you cut one word on one page, you cannot use the cut out letters on the back side because you’ve already cut the letters. I think if the words were staggered, it would fix the problem. Solution so far, make my own letters for the cut out words I don’t have, however, this is time consuming on my end.
So excited
Love it! I saw reviews saying the cut out letters ruined the one on the back page. I bought it anyway because even still the book looked great. They fixed that problem and I couldn’t be more excited to use this book with my son! We are new to homeschooling and I’m grateful to have this resource!
Excellent work book.
Perfect. With having to do something durning covid. These pages are amazing. They practice curriculum sight words and also get in a little OT (occupational therapy) with scissor and pasting words. Love it! My only criticism is make it so the pages tear out. Thank you.
Wonderful tool for practice makes better
My child was having trouble writing nice, neat sentences on her own in school and her teacher was giving us notes that she needed improvement. So I got this and in addition to her homework, most nights, I required her to do two pages. And her writing has improved and her teacher has noticed and my child is becoming more confident in writing. Big Help, so we love it!
Can not cut and paste words on opposite page!!!
This is a great resource for sight words. But how are the kids supposed to cut the sight words and paste on the page when they are cutting over the sight word on the page on the back?! I'm so disappointed because I was hoping the kids would enjoy writing and cutting and pasting! You need to rethink that when manufacturing next time.
Decent practice book !!!
This is decent book to start off practicing sight words for kids. It would have been great if the words were designed in an engaging and interesting way, so it is not boring for kids when they practice. Cost of this book is kind of ok, and overall a decent buy
An essential homeschool booklet!
Were ordered this book for homeschooling our child who is 4. She has responded very well to it. Each page is neatly and simply designed and allows the child 3 ways to practice with the word (tracing, cut & paste, and incorporating the word into a self developed sentence. We’re very happy we stumbled on this book. It’s been very helpful in our homeschool curriculum.
Great book for practice writing
Great book for practice writing, using capitals and periods and also for teaching what a simple sentence should sound like. I've heard my 8 year old when writing a sentence of his own, "That doesn't sound right that's not a good sentence".
Can’t use letters of both sides of each sheet
This book would’ve been so gray had it not been for the poorly laid out letter cutouts on the bottom of each page. You’re given an area to cut out the letters to then paste it in the squares where they belong. Problem is, the letters overlap on the other side of the page; therefore, you’re not able to use both sides. Kinda dumb seeing as it would’ve been a simple solution, such as spacing the letters out properly so that both pages can be used.
Printed wrong
I kinda like the book, but I wish it would have 2 pages for each word, plus the big disappointment comes when you trying to cut the word on the bottom, it cuts the one from the next page too because they printed on the same place (check picture)
a little disappointed when I saw that the cutout pieces interfered with ...
I was originally excited about this book. I was, however, a little disappointed when I saw that the cutout pieces interfered with the next page. I am going to make copies of the pages and use them that way. I think this is a good tool, but needs a little work on the format.
Great Dolch sight words practice
Excellent workbook for practicing Dolch sight words. Student traces the word, then writes the word, then writes the word in a given sentence, and then creates his own sentence. Very effective with an adult student, too.
Great learning tool!
This is the perfect learning tool for my 4yr old. There are a couple error with cutting and pasting but not a big deal. My daughter just writes in the letter she is missing.
good resource for homeschooling or early educators
This is a good resource book for homeschooled youngsters and early educators. I'm kind of kicking myself for spending the money and purchasing this however. Literally every single page out of this book is available for free online to print. Live and learn.
Great Workbook
This is a great activity book. The work sheets are easy to read and understand. There are a lot of choices in this book. It works well to supplement for grade level practice.
Horrible Formatting! Can’t cut out the letters as instructed.
Due to the formatting, it’s impossible to cut out the letters and paste the paper into the squares as instructed. If I cut the letter on one page, the letters on the next page are not useable. Very annoying. Otherwise good activities for sight word practice, if you have plans to make photo copies!
Annoying oversight
The cut and paste letters can’t be used because they printed the letters right on top the next lesson’s letters. So essentially you can only do 4 out of 5 of the lessons for half the book.
Design flaw
Good book for reinforcing the sight words my 5 year old is learning at school.but this book has a serious design flow.bottom part of the page has to be cut out and this would ruin the back side of the page which also has words to cut out.
Great workbook for Kindergartners working on sight words!
My daughter is working on sight words and this workbook is perfect! Each page has a word and space for tracing it first and then writing it yourself. It's just what she needs to practice her words at home.
Cut-out letters are back to back
My daughter is enjoying this book. The only thing I don’t like is that each page has cutout letters, which she loves, but they are all centered in the same place. Once one is cutout, you are also cutting out the letters for the next activity. They could have offset each day’s word and avoided this.
Can’t follow instructions book gives.
The concept was good, we are using it for homeschooling. However, the book asks children to cut letters at the bottom to make a word. It has the same instructions on every page, but the letters for the words are back to back, so if you cut out one word, you can’t cut the one out on the page behind it. That’s a flaw in design.
4 Year Old Loves It
He does 1 or 2 pages a day, and is doing very well. We tried writing apps first, but he used his finger instead of the stylus so needed something to get him writing with something like a pencil. We then tried stencils which are too difficult to hold steady. He does know all his sight words so this was a natural fit for him. He reads the instructions and we help him complete the page. He sometimes struggles with creatining his own sentence, but some days he can do the whole page by himself. He gets a huge, proud of myself, smile on his face when he's done. It has steps, trace the word, practice the word, complete the sentence and then make your own sentence. It's really excellent.
Page design fail
The book is great but because the pages are double sided, the concept is off when cutting out the letter. Letter are directly on top of each other. Other than that, great book.
It’s ok
I like the book my son likes it especially since we are getting ready to go into kindergarten the only thing I didn’t like it took about a week and half to get to my home and it has the activity of cutting the letter to paste at the bottom doesn’t really work since the pages are back to back you will be missing a letter but it’s just a small flaw rather than that the book is great
Poorly setup
My child loves this book but it's not set up well. At the bottom of every page there is letters to cut out so you can glue them into a sentence. When you cut one it cuts into the middle of the letters on the opposite page so they can only do every other one. My child was pretty disappointed about that.
Great Tool for Learning Sight Words
Great resource, but probably best suited for children who are just learning their sight words. I bought it to use as a refresher for my daughter to use between K and 1st, but I find it's not quite as challenging as I'd hoped. That said, she likes working in the book and it's great practice for letter formation and 'kid writing' as each page also requires the child to write an independent sentence.
Great way to practice new words
My son has really enjoyed working his way through the workbook and exploring each word. We use this along with our homeschool language arts books to reinforce new words.
Not easy to coordinate with school curriculum
The concept is good and probably great for homeschoolers. but to work with the words given from teacher it was a little difficult.
it's okay
the small words to cut out and paste on the bottom of the pages line up with the words to cut and paste on the other side of the page so you have to pick which word you like more. I wish they would have staggered them so you can do both. other than that it's a great little book and my pre-K girl loves it!
Useful Tool
We home school, and my daughter was digging her heels in the dirt when we would begin our reading sessions, so I decided to teach her sight words first to give her more confidence in reading. This has helped tremendously. I pair this with 100 Sight Words Mini-books, so she has a double dose of the same word each day, though the two books do not have all of the same sight words listed. After we study our sight word, we search for that word in real books. Now, my daughter can read many sentences in books she is already familiar with. She gets very excited, and she is more open to sounding out words and learning to read.
Great for sight word practice BUT....
Really like this book and the way it’s laid out. Like that they cut out each word BUT they put them in the same spot front to back side. So, when you cut the word out on the front page you can’t use the the other side....
Perfect for a child just learning how to read/write
Its amazing to watch your child connect the dots while using this book. Learning becomes fun for them and they gain confidence
It wasn't good for us, but it is still a good book.
It's ok. I homeschool my children a d I though this might be a fun way to reinforce skills. I tried it with 2 of my kids. Both of them didn't like it.
Great product
Great product. My 5 year old love doing these worksheets & learning with them. It is great practice for learning his sight words. I definitely recommend this to anyone in pre-k or kindergarten looking for extra help in writing & learning to recognize words.
Its okay..
Great to write in... But they want kids to cut things out from their pages.... Double sided pages... So choose which side of the page you want to work with before cutting into it
Great learning tool
The child I gifted is enjoying this learning tool. She is 5, and is writing, spelling, reading, and constructing sentences very well now.
Best workbook!
Such a great workbook ! My son absolutely loves the part that he gets to do hands on such as cutting and glueing!

This book is great. I am teaching my 3 year old and 4 year old grandson from this book. It is working out great.

I used this book as warm-up pages for my first grade class and I have to say, they loved it! They always looked forward to practicing their words and had fun with these reproducibles. I copied the whole book ahead of time so that I could use them at will and it was worth the time. All I had to do was pull one or two out for the week and have them ready to go those days that we used them. Definitely a reproducible book worth having
Great to reinforce sight words
My son had a list of sight words he needed to know before entering kindergarten. This was an excellent resource to help him practice and reinforce what he was memorizing
It’s a reproducible NOT a consumable :)
It’s great! My kids love it. Just know it’s not a workbook, you need to make copies of each of the pages if you want to use the cut out portion.
Effective
Perfect words for beginners. This has helped my daughter write quickly! Easy and simple yet effective.
Ayudante para pequeños
Si eres madre persistente en la enseñanza de tus pequeños, este libro te ayudará a obtener beneficios satisfactorios.
Great purchase
I purchased for a 6 year old and they really liked it. It has helped a lot and I would buy it again.
Awesome.
Great book to use to go over sight words from school. Love the layout especially where the child has to write their own sentence. My son is in K and is learning the words in the book. I use this as an additional source to review with him.
Really improving my sons sight words
My son has really improved on his sight words after working in this book. Everyday we review the previous words.
I love it as a homeschool mom
Great for teaching sight words and how to write a proper sentence!! I love it as a homeschool mom
... old grandson struggles with reading and this book is easy for him to remember his lessons
We're homeschoolers and my 5 year old grandson struggles with reading and this book is easy for him to remember his lessons. He enjoys the simple and quick exercises and appreciates the creative writing assignment at the end of each page.
Grade appropriate
This is a good book. Its helpful for my kindergartner. It has helped to reinforce what the school left off at for their grade level.
Not great but usuable
I wish they had a variety of activities instead of the same one over and over. Also one of the questions on every page asks the student to cut but then you cut both front and back ruining the next days work. Not great.
HORRIBLE layout on the print job!
One portion of the everyday practices in this book is that the words need to be cut out and the letters are to be pasted in a blank space. However! the letters for the following days activities are in the exact same location on the opposite side of the page, so there is no way to do that!! I guess you can just do that portion of the activity every other lesson??? but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the initial intent. Will be Looking for other more thought out options!
Write-and-Learn Sight Words Practice
My two PreK students who are learning sight words love getting to take home the practice sheets wach day they learn new words (3 ng we words on Monday and Friday- Wednesday is a review say).
Going into 1st Grade
During the summer 2020 my daughter going into first grade loved this review book was perfect. She enjoyed cutting and gluing the letters, I enjoyed that she could create her own sentences at the end.
Contains Kindergarten site words.
This is a great work book for a kindergartener. I compared the site words his teacher gave us that he needs to know by the end of the school year and they are all in there plus more.
Love it
This is helping to each my son so many more eight words as well as spacing with writing.
Very Nice!
If purchasing for home use and you're already planning on using for one child, and you would like to do the cut and paste activity, you'll want to scan and copy these, as each page has sight words on either side. The cutting areas line up, and you would otherwise be unable to do that same activity on both sides.
Great book
Loves this book. It challenges my daughter to write her own sentences and the words seem to stick with her when she completes the worksheets
Awesome
Awesome in helping my first grader to learn sight words and improve on her handwriting.
Good deal and purchase
I purchased similar product for my niece. I think she likes it and is working on them.
Ok
The book is just ok. I wish they would have added two sentences in the build-a-sentence portion instead of the same sentence twice. Also, for one of the sentence-builds children are supposed to cut the word at bottom of page and paste/glue in the sentence, however that means you can't use the sight word in the reverse page.
Perfect for K!
Love this book! Perfect for my kindergartener to practice his sight words! He’s been struggling so these extra work sheets are perfect.
I love Scholastic Profesdional Books!
Allows for a variety of practice methods for each of the 100 basic sight words.
Half the book is unusable
The cut and paste letters are in the same location on both sides of the page. How does that even happen? How did somebody not catch that while it was being made? Due to this error, you have to decide if you want to use the front or back of the page, but you can't use both sides to cut and paste letters.
Great for new learners!
My kindergartener loves this practice book!
What not new.
This was bought as a new item. However the first two pages have been written on by a young child. 😢
Useful text to build a sight word lexicon
I like this book as its focus is on writing activities that help students remember and build a sight word lexicon. This book may become boring for young students as the focus is on writing sight words at the word and sentence level. Nonetheless, I still find writing vital in developing literacy skills in beginning readers. To take the edge off of this activities, I use this book in conjunction with 100 Words Kids Need to read by 1st Grade which focuses on fun learning activities that engage students in the learning process. In one lesson, I introduce a word using this text, and in the next lesson, I reinforce the word using a sight word page from 100 Write and Learn Sight Words Practice Pages. I have been using these two texts for a little over a month now and can see a noticeable difference in my students' ability to learn and remember sight words. Both texts have been a confidence builder for this student.
Ok
It is OK but seems old and can't really use it if you don't photocopy it
Waste of money
So frustrating. The words are printed on both sides of the paper. Not helpful for homeschooling. The only way this workbook would be useful is if you are using it for a copy machine to make copies. I don't understand why the manufacturer printed on both sides. Makes half the words unusable and a waste of money. Highly disappointed.
great price
First off it was 50% compared to the price i had paid at lakeshore. I love how they can trace than write the sentence themselves. Really good book to help with sentence building. Some of the sight words are a bit hard since the children usually start off with 3 letter words but with some help they can absolutely understand.
Keep looking!
I don’t do a lot of reviews. However, I was really upset with this book! You’re supposed to cut out let’s of the sight word on the bottom of the page (okay great) but what about the other side? Two sided pages, the cut out letters are in the exact same place on every page so you could only do this on every other page! Frustrating!
Boring!
Boring! Same exact activity on each page. My daughter who can fly through a workbook in a day took months to finish this one & dreaded doing it because of the lack of variation. Buy another book.
Printing error
Was not happy at all. The pages have cut outs of the words for the child to paste in the sentence but those words are right behind the other words on the next page , so you’re cutting right into those words. Now there’s not words for every other page. What a waste.
Resourceful book!
This book is great to help children with sight word recognition.

Great book. Has all the "high frequency words" we are currently learning in kindergarten and uses them in multiple ways including tracing the word, writing it on their own, cutting out letters and assembling, and using it in a sentence. Great reinforcement AND best of all my 5 year olds that are having writing issues didn't mind using these worksheets at all.
Perfect for VPK kids
I ordered for my VPK kiddo when schools let out for the pandemic. This book has been greasy practice for sight words and handwriting!!
Great supplement if done consistently
This is a great way for my four year old to be introduced to the words. In addition, I write each word on flash cards and we practice each new word. I did this for a month straight and we made progress.
Engaging for my 5yo
My daughter loves this book. She likes reading the word and sentences, writing the word, coloring the picture, cutting the letters out, and making her own sentence.
Good purchase!
Great purchase. The layout is good helps with learning each sight word as well as practicing to write the word.
FUN
My five year old likes the book, so it works for me!!
Great book
This book is awesome. I think my kids teacher uses it in class also
Practice pages
This is what we needed to help our grandson with his writing and sight words. He is doing great in school.
Poor design
It has cut and paste on each sheet but they put it in the identical spot so if you cut it off for one side you wont have any for the back page.
Still works!!!
Is good book for children learn about sentence, but the only one thing is no good design is when cut the letter in the bottom the book, cut the letters in the other side, that’s no works.
Good book
Good book. My son loves it (5 yr old). Only down side is the cutouts are not placed properly. So we just write the word again instead of sitting and gluing.
Learning tool
Perfect for kindergarten going into first grade
Good learning tool
Excellent to help teach kids to learn to read!
GREAT BOOK
This book was very educational for my daughters since they're not in a classroom yet. Thank you.
Not impressed
Not impressed. Poorly designed and mixes words that don’t facilitate learning. Easy words with poor examples. For example at the end of the page you are supposed to cut the letters and glue them to the sentence. But if you do that on the front you ruined the word on the back of the page.
Great for Kindergarten learning
This book is perfect for preparation for kindergarten or even for kindergarten! There’s several different ways it teaches to learn the sight words & my daughter loves it !
Get it!
Helped my child in school! Great learning tool to use and a child doesn’t even know their learning lol
helpful sightword book
wonderful product covers 100 sightwords well I love that it has writing practice on each page as well as having the kids write their own sentence using the word so they learn to use it in context. I use it with the children I tutor we usually do one page per session along with other materials as well to learn sightwords. I use this in combination with reading products, sightword dvds and flash cards to cover the topic well. Great purchase for any parents or teachers.
Great selection of words
Great selection of words. The 4 stars is from the activity as other users stated, we cannot cut out activities without cutting into another page. Aside from that I feel like this book has helped my 5yr old stay on track with her reading during the summer months
A great book. I photocopy the pages because there is ...
I use these at least 3 times a week for my daughters home schooling. A great book. I photocopy the pages because there is a differnt word on the front and back. Doesnt bother me at all. I really see a improvement. I also just ordered the sight word poetry book, hope it is as great as this one.
Sight words
My youngest is learning sight words
Great book
I like how this book helps with reading and writing. Very helpful
Good but one flaw
This is good for pre-k... the reason for 3 stars is if you complete one page and cut out the letters at the bottom for the activity (as you are supposed to) then you don’t have any letters for the next page because the sheets are double sided.
Great Teaching Product!
Very handy! Students learned a lot!
Great for beginners
Granddaughter used nightly and enhanced her reading quickly
Great help
This is helping my 5 year old grandson.
Great buy
My daughter loved this book
Love this book
This book is a great reinforcer. Love it!
Great book for kids
Great product and service.
I would recommend this book to families and educators
I am a kindergarten teacher and this activity book has helped me greatly with how to help my students learn sight words outside of the classroom. It touches all points of teaching sight words for me. Repetition is key! I would recommend this book to families and educators, just be sure to follow up!
Perfect for my grandson
This is a great book to keep kindergarteners engaged with recognizing words.
Poor planning. Other than that
Pages are double sided and where you are supposed to cut out letters is the same on each side. Meaning you can only do one side and the other is ruined. Poor planning. Other than that, it’s fine. Repetitive but fine.
100 Write-and-Learn Sight Word
Great quality and price
Great Sight Word Practice but Repetitive Format
This book is being used for homeschooling curriculum for 1st grade. We use the sight word pages to work on high frequency words and boost her reading. Every page has room for the student to write the word several times, a sentence for them to read, and a space for the student to write their own sentence using the word of the day. The only downside is that it is the same format for every single word - all 100 of them. To keep it exciting, we alternate our writing on a dry erase board instead of the pages. She thinks the dry erase board is really fun! Even with the repetitive format, I like the additional practice she is getting on handwriting. FYI, this is geared to teachers and is marked 'reproducible'. That means it is meant to be photocopied for each student in a class. You wouldn't want to use the pages from the workbook directly because there are letters that need to be cut and pasted. By cutting out the front page's letters, you'd be destroying the letters to be used on the back page. I like the reproducible option because the book can be used with multiple children or sold in good condition when we are finished with it.
Great buy...
I love this book . Bought it for my 4 year old who is reading fluently. My son was able to read the text and comprehension questions and answer them himself.
Great for learning
Great for grade school kids. Love the skill level the book has.
Buy it
Love it. Going from kindergarten to first grade it's a nice easy way to get them started and keep going for the summer or any time
useful
My son's kindergarten teacher used these and they worked well for him so I purchased the book for my non-reading middle school kids. They grown that it's baby-ish, but it's improving sight words if just because if they don't practice their flashcards they get a couple of these pages to do.
Excellent product
Excellent product
Great for young readers!
My son who is 4 has caught on and he loves the cut outs on the bottom(he loves to glue), the pages are meant to be copied so that’s what I had intended on doing to begin with, I would absolutely recommend this and will be using it with my daughter when it’s her turn to learn to read!
Good buy
My son started working on sight words at 4 yr old at pre school. So I just continue on with it at home. This is a great book to start.

Gave my son practice over the summer to write. But he really didn't lean the site words. Non the Lee's we read them and he practiced writing. Both he needed. It was summer between K and first grade.
Perfect for sight word practicing
Love this learning tool
Great learning tool
My child loves this book, she can't put it down.
I feel like this book was made for school use but accessible ...
This book is designed to be photocopied. It is designed for multiple child use. I feel like this book was made for school use but accessible for in home use as well. It's not the only one out there like this but reviews are fair in pointing that out. All that being said it's a really great practice book for sight words. I homeschool and am planning to use it for summer review or potentially for first grade curriculum practice. TIP FOR THE CUT OUT: If you don't want to photo copy print up/write out a list of all the words for them to cut and glue on. Or just have them write in the missing letters instead. TIP FOR THE SENTENCE: You can have them just rewrite the entire sentence above it. The main reason they encourage writing a whole new sentence is to help them understand the word and it's use. In similar workbooks I have my child tell me their sentence then I write it out above the line they are suppose to fill out. Then they can just copy it down themselves.
Nice
Good book
Highly recommended
My 6 year hAve hard timing with hand writing .. I bought this book to help him with his handwriting .. he loved to do this book one or two pages every day ... his handwriting is way better than before

Disappointed pages are in black in white even the cover shows them in color. And you are suppose to cut out letters on bottom of page but you cannot do that because the letter for the next page on in the same spot and you would be cutting them out in the wrong way and it will not work for bothsides.
K-2nd grade !!
My girls loved this workbook!! Easy to learn!!
Speedy transaction.
Great.
decent not great
for the money I thought the book would have laminated pages or perforated pages you can take out of the book.
Four Stars
This book is great. Easy for my son to do and doesn’t loose his interested.

Great workbook! Has a lot of good sight words and my son (5) has really enjoyed being able to start identifying words in story books 5 stars if it was in color

Good but expect flaws
I think the concept is good and I think the educational part is also good, but our book is missing the letter E. And the instructions have you cutting out letters but the pages are double sided so that doesn't work for both sides of the page. You'd think someone would have caught that?
Horrible editing!

Great teaching tool
Cut and paste is messed up
The book is not bad. Except for the cut and paste part, which my daughter was really excited about. The cut and paste are on the same place on both sides so you can only cut and paste for one of the pages.
My son learns easily
Easy to use and understand

Excellent workbook
Great workbook! My son learned sight words in Kindergarten so I bought this book as a refresher before first grade. He loves working through the pages and writing his own sentences using the given sight word.
Perfect for my kindergartener!!
Exactly what i was looking for.
Five Stars
Letters big enough for the small hands and content easy enough for beginner.

These are great pages and fun for my daughters (4 and 5) since they include cutting and gluing. I did find some similar ones online for free though so it might be easier and cheaper just to print the free online version instead.
Why did they design it that way?
Inexplicably, each sheet has an area for the student to cut out at the bottom. It may be one letter or more, but the cut out for one side of the sheet makes the reverse side (a different exercise) impossible to use.
nice but does have a layout problem
Like the book except for the fact their printing is off on the bottom of page where you are suppose to cut out the letters of words and glue to page. This is my daughter's fab part. But bc the letter on page 1 over lap w back page u can only do it to one page. But oh well we just write it in.
Decent book
Only negative feelings are towards the letter cut outs at bottom of pages. They are positioned in same spot on front and back of page, so when you cut them out you can only paste them to one page, which ruins them for the other side of page.
Nice word practicing book.
Nice book to help my kindergarten kid for word writing practicing.
